Case Description:

Guo Maoquan, 54, was a Falun Gong practitioner from Guojinpan Village, Wuxue City, Hubei Province. After he learned the practice of Falun Gong, he became a very healthy person. His fellow villagers all knew he was a kindhearted person.

After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, Guo Maoquan was arrested many times for persisting in practicing Falun Gong. In December 2000, Guo was planning on going to Beijing to appeal, when he was reported to the police. Kanjiang Police Station police deceived him into coming out of his home, then stuffed his mouth with towels and beat him savagely.

He was then sent to the First Detention Center of Wuxue City to be detained. In March 2001, he was sentenced to one year of forced labor education and sent to the Shizishan Labor Camp in Wuchang District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. While in detention, he was beaten by drug addicts Hu Wenjie and Wang Chaogang.

Guo was released in the spring of 2002. Because of the torture he suffered at the labor camp, his health deteriorated rapidly. He passed away on December 10, 2003.
