Case Description:
Ms. Xu Xiufen was a Falun Gong practitioner from Fushun City, Liaoning Province. She used to suffer from various diseases and could not take care of herself. No medical treatment was effective in treating her illnesses. After she began practicing Falun Dafa on March 1, 1996, her illnesses gradually all went away. After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, Ms. Xu felt extremely sad that such a good practice was banned. Because she studied the Fa and shared experiences with fellow practitioners at home, Xu Xiufen was taken away by police and also had her home ransacked. Later, she was sentenced to forced labor and brainwashing because of distributing truth-clarification materials. While in detention, Ms. Xu was tortured brutally and her health deteriorated. She was then released on medical parole. In January 2002, Xu Xiufen went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested and taken back to prison. After a while, she was released on medical parole again. In order to avoid further persecution, Ms. Xu left home and lived a life of homelessness. On December 25, 2004, Xu Xiufen passed away, at the age of 62.
