Case Description:
Ms. Zhao Zhongling, was an employee of Jinjiang Electronics Factory in Chengdu City. On March 23, 2007, Jinniu District Procuratorate personnel asked Zhao Zhongling to come over for a talk. However, 20 days later, the Procuratorate informed her parents that she had been detained. Before that, Zhao Zhongling had been detained for 5 times. On April 23, in critical condition, Zhao Zhonglin was transferred to Qingyang District People's hospital. She was tied to a bed with heavy shackles on her legs. Also Ms. Zhao had lost her ability to speak and could only make some gestures with much pain. On May 6 at 4:00 a.m., Ms. Zhao Zhongling passed away. She was 44 years old.
On the afternoon of May 8, personnel from the Jinniu District Procuratorate, the detention center, and the police station showed up at Ms. Zhao's house and read out her “sentence.” Then they said, "Now that Ms. Zhao has passed away, we will not pursue the case anymore." They demanded that Ms. Zhao's family members sign their acknowledgment that Ms. Zhao was guilty. The family refused. The personnel threatened, "If you refuse to sign, we will deal with the corpse at our way within seven days."
