Statement from Mr. Guan Wenlong's Wife

When Mr. Guan was arrested and taken to Feiketu Town Police Station on December 29, 2009, his wife rushed to the station. She appealed to the town leaders and police officers, saying, "My husband was arrested by you just for practicing Falun Gong. When he was detained at the Mudanjiang Prison, our house was about to collapse and therefore it was impossible to live in it anymore. However, my husband, the main laborer, was arrested by you. We didn't have any income. Our child had to discontinue his studies and go to work. Our life was very hard at that time. I reported my situation to officials of the town and the village, and asked for help. Unexpectedly, officials denied everything, saying that 'those who practice Falun Gong are against the government; our government won't help you at all.' Local practitioners noticed my hardship and contributed their own money to buy us an old house, so we have a place to live. It was also practitioners that helped us with the autumn harvest. Each holiday, practitioners send us rice, oil and flour. They helped us overcome many difficulties. Who has treated us with kindness? And who has persecuted us? Isn't it obvious? In addition, before my husband practiced Falun Gong, he was grumpy and had many bad habits, such as excessive drinking and gambling. He often beat my son and me. After he started to practice Falun Gong, he got rid of those bad habits and his anger, and no longer beat us. I hope that my husband could continue to practice Falun Gong. He wants to be a good person, but you even forbid that; what on earth do you want him to be?" The town leaders and police officers had nothing to say in reply.
