The Instances of Persecution in Heizuizi Women's Forced Labor Camp

The Heizuizi Women's Forced Labor Camp in Changcun City, Jilin Province, has been imprisoning and persecuting Falun Gong practitioners for a long time. The following are some examples.

Ms. Niu Ling, in her thirties, from NongAn County, Jilin Province, was arrested and taken to a detention center on September 24, 2007. Twenty days later, she was transferred to the forced labor camp to serve a year-long sentence. She was put in Team 2, Ward 5. Because she would not give up her belief in Falun Gong, she was severely beaten and shocked several times with electric batons by Ward chief Wang Limei and guards Liu Yinghui and Zhang Lihong. The guards did not allow her to have visitors and forced her to work for over 14 hours a day. She was released on February 10, 2009, after nearly five months longer than the termination date of the original sentence.

Twenty-year-old Ms. Wang Pingrui, a high school student in NongAn County, Jilin Province, was arrested around June 2008 and taken to Heizuizi Women's Prison, Team 4, Ward 5. Because she would not give up her belief in Falun Gong, she was put in solitary confinement right after her admittance. Wang Limei and guard Xiao Aiqiu beat her many times, prevented her from using the bathroom, and used electric batons to shock her on the soles of her feet, causing bruises and burns. The guards tied her to a bed and directed inmates Yu Xiuming, Zhu Liren, and Li Gongju to whip her and beat her, hitting her head and body with bottles of water, bruising her all over. This college-bound, intelligent young girl has now been rendered mentally disordered, and the guards still prevent her family members from visiting her.

Ms. Zhang Yuankun, sixty years old, from Jilin Province was arrested and taken to the forced labor camp  in 2009. Because she refused to write the "five pledging letters" (similar to the three statements), she was put in solitary confinement in Team 2, Ward 5. She was brutally persecuted by Wang Limei and guard Zhang Lihong. They shocked her face and body with electric batons for extended periods of time. She is still in solitary confinement and her life is in peril.

Ms. Liu Fang, in her forties, from Dehui City in Jilin Province, was taken to the forced labor camp  in March 2008. Because she refused to cooperate with the officials there, she was shocked with electric batons at least three times and beaten at least twice by captain Wang Limei and guard Zhang Lihong. She was sentenced to one and a half years in prison.

Sisters Imprisoned, Money Extorted from Their Families

Sisters Ms. Cao Junfeng and Ms. Cao Junping were arrested before the Beijing Olympics by the Domestic Security Team in Weifang City, Shandong Province. They have been detained at a detention center ever since. The Domestic Security Team has denied all of their families' visitation requests, harassed and arrested their family and friends, and extorted 70,000 yuan from them.

Ms. Cao Junfeng, the older sister, began practicing Falun Gong in 1995. Shortly thereafter, she recovered from enteritis. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Cao and her family were subjected to constant harassment, arrest, monitoring, and extortion. As a result, Ms. Cao's husband was in a constant state of anxiety, which led to multiple heart attacks.

On July 9, 2008, Ms. Cao Junfeng was arrested in a city-wide mass arrest of Falun Gong practitioners by the City Police Department and the Domestic Security Team. Her husband suffered a heart attack during the illegal search and seizure of their home.

On August 10, 2008, Ms. Cao Junfeng was sentenced to a year of forced labor and sent to Wangcun Forced Labor Camp. It is unknown what abuse Ms. Cao endured during the month between the arrest and the sentencing, except that during that time she had pus and blood in her stool.

Ms. Cao Junfeng's health deteriorated in the labor camp. In less than a month, her symptoms became so severe that no one dared to be near her and the camp refused to keep her. With no regard to the severity of her health condition, the Domestic Security Team took Ms. Cao from the camp to Changle Detention Center in Weifang City.

In September 2008, just two days after Ms. Cao's only daughter's wedding, the Domestic Security Team searched Ms. Cao Junfeng's home again.

In February 2009, Ms. Cao Junfeng's husband and daughter were arrested and 28,000 yuan was extorted from them by the Domestic Security Team. In addition, they were threatened not to hire a lawyer for Ms. Cao.

Since Ms. Cao's arrest, all of her family's requests for visitation have been denied. The latest news they have received is "there will be another sentence."

Ms. Cao Junping, the younger sister, started practicing in 1995. She was arrested and beaten many times after the persecution began in 1999. In 2000, she was arrested by Xingpu Police Station. While in the station, officers repeatedly beat her. One of her front teeth was knocked out. Bruises covered her body.

On July 9, 2008, the City Police Department and the Domestic Security Team broke into Ms. Cao Junping's home and seized tens of thousands of yuan in valuables, including expensive electric appliances and bank certificates. Ms. Cao had to flee her home to avoid being arrested. Unfortunately, she was arrested on July 29, 2008. Mr. Pang Xiaoqian, Ms. Cao's husband, was arrested and detained for a month for trying to protect his wife. His car was seized by the Domestic Security Team. On July 30, 2008, the police secretly searched Ms. Cao's home. It is unknown what they took.

Mr. Pang lost his job and was labeled as a "criminal suspect" after his detention. He demanded that the police to return his property, but to no avail.

The Weifang Domestic Security Team threatened the family and extorted funds from them after the Cao sisters' arrest. By the end of 2008, officers had arrested the Cao's two brothers, a sister-in-law, and a friend, then demanded 10,000 yuan and a guarantor per person for their release, and further threatened to arrest them again if they disclosed the demands. The Cao's cousin, who was also arrested, was poor. The officers could only extort 2,000 yuan from her.

Currently, Ms. Cao Junfeng is imprisoned at Changle Detention Center, and Ms. Cao Junping at Qingzhou Detention Center. Their families are constantly harassed and threatened by the Domestic Security Team.
