    Ms. Shen Yuxia was illegally arrested on August 27, 2008. After only 15 days in police custody, her family was notified that she had died.

  • Ms. Wang Yanfeng and Ms. Sheng Cuilian were arrested on September 4, 2008. Ms. Wang died twenty days later while she went on a hunger strike to protest the mistreatment.


    Ms. Shen Yuxia Dies in Police Custody in Guangdong Province

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Shen Yuxia was from Changsha City, Hunan Province. She conducted her business in Zhanjiang City, Guandong Province. On August 12, 2008, 610 Office agents illegally arrested her at her family-owned tofu stand at Beiqiao Market. On August 27, 2008, after only 15 days in police custody, her family was notified that she had died.

    Ms. Shen's family saw that her body was covered with wounds, and her chest was covered with dark bruises. When her family asked doctors about how she died, the doctor told them that Ms. Shen was already dead when she arrived at the hospital. Mr. Shen's husband Yu Jinnan is also a Falun Gong practitioner, and is currently incarcerated in Hunan Province. They have two children, the younger one less than three years old.


    Ms. Wang Yanfeng Dies in Guangshui City Detention Center, Hubei Province

    Ms. Wang Yanfeng, 46, lived in Jieguan Township, Anlu City, Hubei Province. On April 14, 2008, Ms. Wang and fellow practitioner Ms. Sheng Cuilian went to the neighboring Chenxiang Township in Guangsui City to pass out truth-clarifying materials, and both were arrested. Chenxiang Township Police Station director Yu Bingrong took them to Guangshui City Domestic Security Team office. They were soon detained in the1st Detention Center of Guangshui City. After they went on hunger strike to protest the mistreatment, they were released when their lives were in danger.

    At around 3:00 p.m. on September 4, 2008, Guangshui City 610 Office agents, Anlu City Domestic Security agents, and Jieguan Township local officers arrested Ms. Wang and Ms. Sheng again. Guangshui City Domestic Security agent Fang Hong brutally beat Ms. Wang during the arrest process. The two women were detained in the Guangshi City Detention Center, where they again held a hunger strike to protest the persecution. They were cruelly beaten repeatedly each time they refused to eat. They were both extremely weak, and Ms. Wang Yanfeng died on September 24, 2008.
