Mr. Han Qingkun Dies from Torture in Forced Labor Camp

Mr. Han Qingkun was a teacher employed by the Shengli Petroleum Field Middle School in Shandong Province. In late 2006, he was doing the Falun Gong exercises in a motel when he was arrested by officers from Xuanwu District Police Department and later sentenced to two years of forced labor, which he served in the Xuchang City Forced Labor Camp in Henan Province. During his first two months of detention, he was inhumanly tortured, causing him to develop cirrhosis of the liver. The camp administration didn't notify his family, nor did they allow him to be bailed out on medical parole. They released him when he was dying, on February 17, 2007 (Chinese New Year's Eve). His family could hardly recognize him. His hair and mustache were gray, his abdomen was bloated, and his buttocks flesh had an infected wound. His clothes were all in pieces. He had a high fever and remained unconscious. He died at home, one month after his release, on March 30, 2007, at the age of fifty-two.

There were around 60 Falun Dafa practitioners detained in Xuchang City Forced Labor Camp, and 14 of them were transferred from Beijing, including Mr. Han. The practitioners were all tortured by being punched, kicked, beaten with rubber batons, and tied up with nylon ropes. Prisoners were encouraged to rampantly torture practitioners, using methods such as beating them with wooden clubs, pouring cold water over them, cursing them, and forcing them to do slave labor for 13-15 hours each day.

Mr. Liu Tingheng Dies after Being Tortured in Benxi City "Legal Center" in Liaoning Province

Mr. Liu Tingheng, 64, lived in Benxi City, Liaoning Province. He was arrested and detained four times for practicing Falun Gong. In September 2001, he was detained in the Weining Forced Labor Camp of Benxi City. Guards locked him in a small cell (1), and Guard Gao cuffed his hands behind his back, which cut into his flesh and caused his wrists and hands to swell the next day. Gao had him cuffed for more than twenty days, around the clock. He was bitten by mosquitoes all over his body and suffered incontinence. After being released from the small cell, he was tortured with the sitting board (2) 13 hours per day, during which he was not allowed to talk or move. Practitioners were constantly beaten by prisoners. Mr. Liu's term was extended by six months.

Around April 12, 2007, Mr. Liu was arrested for the last time and detained in Benxi City Forced Labor Camp. He was detained in the "Legal Center" inside the camp for nine months and forced to go through brainwashing torture. He was not allowed to be visited by his family. He was tortured until he was bedridden for a month, his chest became full of liquid, and the camp administration allowed his family to pick him up. Only twenty days after returning home, he died, on the early morning of June 9, 2008. The last thing he said was about the "Legal Center" chair, Liu Shaoshi (male), forcing him to accept the brainwashing. He did not say a word after that, and he died with his eyes open.

    Notes:

    (1) Small cell - The detainee is locked up in a very small cell individually. The guards handcuff the practitioner behind their back in a fixed position, in which the practitioner can neither move nor lie down. The small cell is very damp and no sunshine comes in. Detainees have to urinate and defecate in the cell. Only half of a regular meal is served to detainees locked up in the small cell during the daytime. During the night the rats run about. The stench in the small cell is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.

    (2) Sitting board - Every day, practitioners are forced to put their hands on top of their laps, with backs straight and sit on benches 18 hours per day. This continues for over fifty days. The authorities even limit practitioners' restroom use time. Because of the long time spent sitting on hard benches, practitioners' buttocks develop large sores that are very painful. Practitioners are often not able to urinate normally because of the pain. The labor camps are often damp, and scabies develop on the practitioners' bodies.
