    Mr. Hu Heping from Hunan Province Dies as a Result of Torture

    Mr. Hu Heping, 55, a painter in Yueyang City, Hunan Province died as a result of torture in the detention center on August 7, 2008.

    Mr. Hu Heping stated to practice Falun Gong in 1997. He went to Beijing to appeal twice, in 1999 and 2000, and was detained first 30 then 45 days in Hubin Detention Center.

    On March 12, 2003, Mr. Hu was arrested and sentenced to two years of forced labor. In Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp, the guards injected unknown drugs into him three times, because he refused to give up his faith. The guard said, "If you refuse to be "transformed," you'll just endlessly cough!" Mr. Hu had a strong reaction to the injection, and he coughed day and night until he started vomiting blood. Guard He Jun ordered prisoner Huang to slap Mr. Hu with a shoe. In the tortures that lasted seven days, he was forced to remain standing facing a wall and not allowed to sleep. He was released at the end of 2004.

    At around 9 a.m. on March 18, 2008, Mr. Hu was resting at home when Lowang Community agent Li Yongfei, Lowang Neighborhood Administration staff Zhang Yifei, and officer Lu Ran from Lowang Police Station led a group officers to arrest Mr. Hu. By 2 p.m., they had taken him to Dongtingguan Hotel to be interrogated for a full day. They took him to the First Detention Center of Yueyang City on March 19, 2008.

    Due to the torture that Mr. Hu endured while in police custody, his internal organs were injured, there was blood in his urine, and his legs and feet were swollen. He could not stop coughing. His weight dropped from 120 pounds to just 90 pounds. Agents from the 610 Office and Domestic Security Division did not allow his family to see him, and they forced him to do hard labor for 12-16 hours per day.

    On June 16, 2008, guards took him to the First Hospital of Yueyang City for a check-up, and they found his internal organs were severely damaged and he had liver cirrhosis. Even under such circumstances, the Yueyang City 610 Office and Domestic Security Division were still reluctant to release him. However, the Detention Center authorities feared that he would soon die. They notified Mr. Hu's family to bring money on June 17 and bail him out for medical treatment on June 18, 2008.

    At that point, Mr. Hu was very weak. He had severe swelling from his abdomen down to his toes, and he had difficulty walking. He never recovered from his injuries and died on the early morning of August 7, 2008.

    The Persecution in Dingzhou City, Hebei Province during June and July

    With the arrival of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the CCP is again arresting Falun Gong practitioners in the name of protecting the Olympics. Recently, members of the 610 Office, the Domestic Security Team, the local police and village officials have harassed and arrested Falun Gong practitioners in Dingzhou City, Hebei Province.

    On June 16, the Domestic Security Team arrested Ms. Peng Gaidi, a practitioner in Futouzhuang Village, Zhoucun Township. She went to the market that morning, and after clarifying the truth to fellow villagers, someone followed and reported her. She is now being held in a detention center.

    On the morning of June 16, Ms. Bu Yueqin, a practitioner in her thirties from Liujia Village, Gaopeng Town, was taken away from her home by members of the Domestic Security Team.

    On June 28, the Domestic Security Team and Zhongxin Street Neighborhood Administration officials went to investigate the rental home of practitioner and housewife Ms. Hou Rongai. She was not there when they arrived, so they ransacked the place, confiscating some truth clarifying DVDs and over 1,000 yuan. They increased the number of surveillance personnel from the police station afterwards to try and arrest Ms. Hou. She was forced to leave home and go from place to place to avoid further persecution.

    On July 1, seven or eight officers from Dingzhou City Police Department entered the home of Ms. Song Shiru, a Liqin'gu Township Junior High School teacher, in Youwei Village, Liqingu Township. They ransacked her home, took away a computer and took Ms. Song to a detention center. The next day, the same people went to search Ms. Song's school residence and confiscated Falun Gong books.

    On July 3, three practitioners from Tuhou Village, Dingzhou City, including Ms. Yunxiang, Ms. Yuqin, and the other name unknown, were arrested by numerous police officers while watching a DVD at home.

    On July 7, practitioners Mr. Wei Guoxuan and Mr. Wei Pingxuan from Mudian Village, Ziwei Town, Dingzhou City were arrested while distributing truth clarification materials in a neighboring village. They are now being held at the Chengbei Detention Center in Dingzhou City.

    On the morning of July 20, police from the Kaiyuan Town Police Station and the CCP Secretary in Neihua Village broke into the home of villager Ms. He Yonglian, who is in her thirties. They ransacked her home and arrested her. At that time, Dasitou Village practitioner Ms. Wang Kunying, around 50 years old, was visiting friends in Neihua Village. The local police arrested Ms. Wang as well. She is currently detained at the Dingzhou Detention Center.

    On the afternoon of July 20, more than ten people forced their way into Ms. Wang Kunying's home and began ransacking it. The group was led by the head of Zhaocun Township and CCP Deputy Secretary of Zhaocun Township Gu Hongchang. Those involved included Wei Haitao from Zhaocun Township Police Station and Ren Aimin, the head of Dasitou Village. Ren searched the home four times and confiscated Falun Gong books. When asked for a reason for the search and ransacking, they responded with verbal abuse.

    On July 20, Dasitou Village practitioner Ms. Huan Sheng was arrested while taking a walk with her child. Ms. Geng Lijuan was also arrested the same day.

    The authorities of Zhaocun Township, Kaiyuan Town and various villages have harassed practitioners in the area many times. The above-mentioned four practitioners were arrested after each refused to write a guarantee statement promising to give up Falun Gong.

    Recently, practitioners have been harassed in their homes by the police and village officials. They forced the practitioners to sign guarantee statements and severely disrupted the practitioners' and their families' lives.
