Beijing Residents Ms. Wang Zhiqin and Daughter, Wang Chongjun, Sentenced to Forced Labor

Ms.Wang Zhiqin, and her daughter, Ms. Wang Chongjun, both Falun Gong practitioners, are residents of Xiaohongmen Longzhuashu Village in Chaoyang District, Beijing City. They were arrested on the night of April 14, 2008, and recently sentenced to forced labor.

At approximately 7:00 p.m, on April 14, 2008, Yang Fengling (female), the community 610 Office chair from Longzhuashu Village, ordered over 20 police officers from Xiaohongmen Station and agents of the Chaoyang District 610 Office to raid Ms. Wang's home. They climbed a ladder and went into Ms. Wang's home. Police officers tried to force Ms. Wang to sign a statement promising she would not practice Falun Gong. They also tried to force her to sign a document that slandered Falun Gong. The chief of the village committee 610 Office, Yang Fengling, had assigned more than 40 people and the mutual protection team to watch Ms. Wang's home since the night of April 7, 2008, when she refused to be "transformed." The elderly Ms. Wang was watched closely whenever she went out to buy food or went to the park. During this period, Yang went to Ms. Wang's home almost every day to harass her.

Ms. Wang did not cooperate with their unreasonable requests. The police officers searched her home and found three tapes and a few brochures. They declared that the photo and these items would be used as evidence against her and grounds for persecution. They broke into Ms. Wang Chongjun's room. Ms. Wang Chongjun said, "What you are doing is illegal." The officers got very angry and lifted Ms. Wang Zhiqin, who was still sitting in the lotus position, and put her in a police vehicle. They also took Ms. Wang Chongjun away.

On the second day, the morning of April 15, 2008, police officer Zhang Weimin (male) forwarded a message that these two senior ladies were in Guanzhuang Detention Center, Chaoyang District. They did not allow their family to bring clothes and made them wait to be notified when it would be permitted for them to bring clothes. The family was also told that these two ladies would be allowed to return home in around 15 days to two years.

Recently, the Wang family got written notices from The First Division, Dispatch Section of the Tuanhe Labor Camp in Beijing (where Ms. Wang Chongjun is detained) with the stamp of the administration office and from the Ten Division (where Ms. Wang Zhiqin is detained). The family was told that Ms. Wang Chongjun was sentenced to forced labor on May 22, 2008, and Ms. Wang Zhiqin was sentenced to forced labor on May 20, 2008. At the same time, the family also got a letter notifying them of "locked style forced labor camp prisoner's visiting notice" that told them to visit Ms. Wang Chongjun from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and Ms. Wang Zhiqin from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on June 2, 2008.

These senior ladies' arrests and sentencing to a forced labor camp was done without notifying their families.

Three Falun Gong Practitioners from Shenyang City Illegally Arrested and Their Homes Searched

On the afternoon of May 24, 2008, three Falun Gong practitioners from Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, including Mr. Yan Hongwei and Ms. Zu Liming, were illegally arrested by officers from the Shenyang City Police Department. Their homes were searched, as well.

Mr. Yan Hongwei, who is in his forties, used to live in the Dafuyuan Community, Heping District, Shenyang City. Before the start of the persecution in 1999, he was the coordinator of the Shenyang City practice site. Due to the persecution, he spent three years in a prison from 2000-2003. Mr. Yan was arrested again recently, though he was working in another province for a long time. He had returned to Shenyang City to visit his family for the weekend and to see fellow practitioners in Faku County. He was arrested while he was meeting with fellow practitioners. His home was searched, although the police officers did not find anything. They confiscated his computer anyway.

Ms. Zu Liming, 49, a construction budget analyst, was arrested on the same day. She lives in the Beihang Community, Huanggu District, Shenyang City. Her husband Mr. Miao Qisheng had died as a result of persecution at the hands of police officers of the Xianggong Police Station on May 14, 2002. After Mr. Miao's death, she and her young son led a hard life. Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents threatened her with arrest if she ever raised questions regarding Mr. Miao's death. Since then, she has been monitored and illegally arrested repeatedly. Her home was searched many times.

On the afternoon of May 24, 2008, after arresting Ms. Zu, police officers opened her door with a master key. Her son Miao Mengmeng happened to be at home then. He shouted loudly to expose the police officers that were breaking in, at which point they fled. They returned later with some of Miao Mengmeng's relatives, whom they had pressured into coming along, and tricked him into opening the door. When Mengmeng shouted out again, they fled without searching his home.

Additional reports indicate that a third practitioner from Faku County, who may have been the coordinator of the Faku County practice site before the persecution began, was also arrested. He was sentenced to three years in prison.

The three practitioners are being detained in a brainwashing center called the "Legal System School" of Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp in Shenyang City. The police officers boasted that they are "getting serious" with Mr. Yan Hongwei. On or around May 26, 2008, a CCP agent named Zhong Yongkang came to Shenyang City and threatened to arrest 50 practitioners.

Seven People Illegally Arrested by Chinese Communist Party Agents in Changling County, Jilin Province

The 610 Office of Changling County, Jilin Province, along with local police and so-called security directors--six or seven people in total--broke into local Falun Gong practitioners' homes around 6:00 p.m. on May 22, 2008. Right after they entered the door, they claimed, "The Olympics Games are coming up, and we are afraid that you guys may go to Beijing to appeal [for justice for Falun Gong], so we are here to check." They started to search everywhere while they were talking. They arrested people once they found anything related to Falun Gong. These Chinese Communist Party (CCP) gangs searched the homes of practitioners whose names were on their blacklist. Seven people were arrested, including Zhang Yanhua, Wu Ling, Chen Yuping, and Zhao Lianfeng's wife.

Without going through any legal procedures, the police said that after they took a written record they would release some of the people they had arrested. However, next day four or five officers showed up, they said that those arrested had to be held for 15 days and family members should send clothes and bedding. The police also demanded 360 yuan to pay for their food for two weeks. The seven people who were arrested are now in Changling County Detention Center. The laptop of Zhang Yanhua's son-in-law, who doesn't practice Falun Gong, was also taken away illegally.
