Sonyuan City CCP authorities issued an order to "strike hard" against Falun Gong practitioners, so as to guarantee having no protest during the coming Olympic torch relay.
Because of his effort to tell people the truth of Falun Gong, Mr. Zeng Shugang is sentenced to five years of imprison by CCP court in a hearing lasting few minutes.
Songyuan City CCP Authorities Call for Arrest
of Falun Gong Practitioners in Run-up to Olympic Games
As Songyuan City, Jilin Province is one of the Olympic Torch relay cities, in order to guarantee having no protests during the torch relay and the Olympic Games, the city Communist Party Committee and its government administration held a general assembly that included representatives from the police department and other law enforcement agencies of the city. The head of the city Chinese Communist Party Committee, Lan Jun, the Deputy Mayor, Secretary of the city CCP Political and Judiciary Committee, Wu Xinghong, and others ssued an order demanding that the police units give full play to their so-called "function." For a period of 100 days, they carried out an intense round of arrests of Falun Gong practitioners. Prior to that, Communist officials had also issued a secret order to "strike hard" on Falun Gong.
In the past month, the Songyuan City Police Department, the 610 Office, the Songyuan City Domestic Security Team, as well as the police stations and the 610 Offices at the local county and township level, started to harass and illegally arrest Falun Gong practitioners in Songyuan City and its suburban areas. Nearly 100 practitioners have been affected: over a dozen practitioners were arrested, and dozens of others were forced to leave home in order to avoid further persecution and arrest.
The various towns in Qianquo County, Hongguang Farm, Xinli (located in Baiyilaga Town), Lianhua Farm, and Hongqi Farm all sent police officers to harass practitioners. They also tried to force practitioners to denounce Falun Gong. If the practitioners refused, their residences would be searched and they would be arrested. Practitioners Mr. Ling Zhenhui, Mr. Wen Jianzhong and his daughter Ms. Bai Yuqin, Mr. Bi Zhongju and his wife Ms. Zhang Shuqing, daughter Bi Caixia (a non-practitioner, detained for 10 days) were all arrested. Practitioners from north of the Ningjiang District, Mr. Guo Zhichao (72 years old), and Ms. Li Guifen were also arrested. Currently, more than 30 practitioners are still being held.
On February 26, 2008, a Falun Gong practitioner, Zeng Shugang from Jieyang County, Guangdong Province was sentenced to five years of imprisonment. Mr. Zeng Shugang has been widely praised for his upstanding character and kindheartedness. His steadfast belief and his effort to tell people the truth about Falun Gong was met with brutal persecution by the CCP regime.
Mr. Zeng Shugang started to practice Falun Gong in 1997 when he was a manager in a factory in Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province. Later, the factory opened a subsidiary in the rural area of the city. None of the managers except Mr. Zeng Shugang wanted to move there due to the poor working conditions. He worked so hard that even had no time for lunch. The boss of the factory and employees said, "Shugang was a real treasure!"
However, after the CCP regime launched a campaign to "eradicate" Falun Gong in July 1999, Mr. Zeng Shugang went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and related his own experiences to the government authorities, asserting that Falun Gong was being defamed by the media's false propaganda.
On January 20, 2000, Mr. Zeng Shugang was sentenced to two years of forced labor under the so-called crime of being involved in Falun Gong activities and organizing Falun Gong practitioners to go to Beijing to appeal to the government.
He was continuously harassed and his home was searched even after his release in 2002. He was also arrested by the police on the sensitive dates. He finally chose to leave home to avoid further persecution.
On October 17, 2007, the police from Jieyang Police Department and Dongshan Police Station and Zhang Youcai from Jieyang City's 610 Office ransacked the apartment rented by Mr. Zeng Shugang. One computer unit, one printer and one portable hard disk as well as six bound Falun Gong truth-clarification booklets were confiscated. Later Mr. Zeng Shugang was arrested and taken to Xima Police Station, and then transferred to Jieyang City's Detention Center.
On February 26, 2008, no testimony of any witnesses against him was presented during the trial in Rongcheng District Court and the hearing was over in just few minutes. However, the written judgment issued on March 24,2008 says that 114 flyers, 73 brochures and 11 video discs were found in his rent apartment, and several fabricated witness testimonies "proved" that Mr. Zeng Shugang produced Falun Gong truth-clarification materials, which was used to support the five year sentence.
