Ms. Zhang Yuxia and Mr. Zhao Tongxiao Arrested in Shijiazhuang City and Falsely Charged

On January 16, 2008, Shijiazhuang City 610 Office agents and police officers from the Xinhua District Department and the Shigang Street Station arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Yuxia. Practitioners Mr. Zhao Tongxiao and Ms. Li Shuyu, who were visiting her home, were also arrested. Later Ms. Li Shuyu was released. Ms. Zhang Yuxia and Mr. Zhao Tongxiao were detained at the 2nd Detention Center of Shijiazhuang City. This time, the 610 Office agents plotted against Mr. Zhao by first arresting him and then using fabricated evidence to falsely charge him.

When the police arrested Mr. Zhao, it was without cause. Since there was another practitioner at Ms. Zhang's house, they arrested her, too. Later, they realized that Mr. Zhao had tried to adjust the direction of her satellite dish antenna, which had become mis-aligned. The police claimed that Mr. Zhao had tapped into the satellite and used it to broadcast Falun Gong materials. Later, they thought that this story was too outlandish and quit speaking about "tapping into the satellite." However, they insisted that Mr. Zhao had been installing an illegal TV system. And yet, Ms. Zhang Yuxia's cable TV had been previously installed and received only domestic channels, not pirated ones. Mr. Zhao simply tried to adjust the antenna. However, that was the excuse that the police used to detain Mr. Zhao.

In order to further persecute Mr. Zhao, at around 4:00 p.m on February 3, 2008, two policemen, lead by Fan Xiuwen, from the Shigang Street Station, went to ransack Mr. Zhao's home. They wanted to find some proof to justify their charge against Mr. Zhao, but Mr. Zhao's family and neighbors stood up to the officers. The two policemen became profane, and in frustration they said, "Bring their Master's photo and burn in front of them to anger them."

Mr. Zhao's wife, Ms. Wang Qiufang, immediately replied, "If you dare to do that, you will be punished immediately and die at once."

The two policemen were silent and wrote down on the search warrant: "Refused to be searched." They wanted Ms. Wang Qiufang to sign it, but she refused. They wanted the head of the neighborhood administration to sign, however, he also refused.

Mr. Meng Xuetao Sent to Forced Labor Camp for the Third Time--His Mother Denied Visiting Rights

Falun Gong practitioner Meng Xuetao, 38, lived in Yuzhong District, Chongqing City. He started practicing Falun Gong in August 1998.

In May 1999, when Jiang Zemin and Luo Gan took extreme steps to prevent people from practicing from Falun Gong, Mr. Meng took one week off from work to go to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong.

On July 21, 1999, when he arrived at the People's Plaza in Chongqing City for morning practice, Meng Xuetao saw his fellow practitioners being rounded up by police. So that same day he went to complain to the People's Government of Chongqing City. On July 22, Mr. Meng's supervisor called him to his office and asked him to stop practicing Falun Gong, but Meng Xuetao categorically rejected his demand, and that day he left for Beijing to petition again. He was penniless by the time he started for home, so he walked over 40 days along the railroad path to get home.

The next day, his supervisor had him sent to Redbuilding Hotel, a military guest house in  Xiaojiawan area, Chongqing City, and held him there for 30 days. Meng Xuetao was later fired by his employer, the Chongqing Branch of Bank of China, because he refused to give up practicing Falun Gong.

In December 1999, Meng Xuetao went to Beijing to appeal again, and on New Year's Day of 2000 he did the exercises on Tiananmen Square and was taken away by police. On January 12, 2000, Mr. Meng was brought back to Chongqing City and illegally detained at the Shangqingsi Police Station. He was later illegally sentenced by the Chinese communist regime to a one-year term of forced labor and held at Xishanping Forced Labor Camp in Chongqing City.

While imprisoned, Meng Xuetao never gave up practicing Falun Gong. As a result, he was assigned to a group under close watch and was often kept in solitary confinement. One of his vertebra was permanently damaged from being beaten. One day his mother, also a Falun Gong practitioner, came to see him and found him tied to a bed with tubes in his body. He looked old and drawn. Since Meng Xuetao persisted in his belief, his term at the forced labor camp was extended for one year and he was not released until January 12, 2002.

Unable to bear the pressure of his son being incarcerated, Meng Xuetao's father suffered from a stroke and died while Mr. Meng was in the labor camp. Meng Xuetao was handcuffed when he attended his father's funeral.

On May 25, 2005, when Meng Xuetao was at a fellow practitioner's home, police stormed in and took him and the fellow practitioner to Yudong Detention Center in Banan District of Chongqing City. Mr. Meng was illegally detained for 25 days before being given a two-year forced labor term. Again, he was imprisoned at Xishanping Forced Labor Camp in Chongqing City.

In the camp, Meng Xuetao refused to write, say, or do anything against Falun Gong. He was subjected to long-term sleep deprivation at the camp. Mr. Meng is about five feet six inches tall, and yet his weight dropped to less than 110 pounds as a result of the persecution at the labor camp.

On December 28, 2007, Mr. Meng was reported as he was handing out truth-clarification materials near the Xinhua Bookstore in Shapingba District, Chongqing City. Policemen from the Sanxia Plaza Police Station of Shapingba District took Mr. Meng to Baihelin Detention Center in Shapingba District and kept him in custody for 21 days. On January 17, 2008, Meng Xuetao was illegally sentenced for the third time and was again sent to Xishanping Forced Labor Camp in Chongqing City for a two-year term.

On January 18, Mr. Meng's mother visited him and saw that he was pale, frail, and had black rings around his eyes. He told his mother that he was suffering from severe insomnia. On January 25, Mr. Meng's mother went to visit her son again, but this time the police knew that she was a Falun Gong practitioner too, so they wouldn't allow her to see her son.
