Details Regarding Mr. Yang Jiaye's Death While in Custody in Guangxi Region

Mr. Yang Jiaye, 41, lived in Lingshan County, Qinzhou City, Guangxi Province. He had a severe case of polio. He could not stand up, and was bedridden. After he started practicing Falun Gong in 1997, he was able to stand up and could move normally.

Mr. Yang went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong after the persecution started. In the spring of 2002, he was arrested and sentenced to two years of forced labor for passing out truth-clarifying materials. After he was deprived of his right to study the Fa and do the Falun Gong exercises, his physical condition worsened and eventually he had to be released on medical parole. Since he was able to practice Falun Gong again upon returning home, he quickly recovered. Mr. Yang was able to work and live normally and he told others about Falun Gong.

On May 16, 2008, Mr. Yang rode his bike on the street with a sign saying "Falun Gong is great" hanging on the front, and a loudspeaker playing Falun Gong songs. He was arrested and then released on the same night, but all of his belongings were confiscated.

Domestic Security Division Leaders Liang Yongshen and Fang Daoyang arrested Mr. Yang at his home at 8:30 a.m. on June 30, 2008. They had him sentenced to two years of forced labor the next day and took him to the 4th Ward of the 1st Forced Labor Camp of Nanning City  in Guangxi Province. He died on November 18, 2008, while detained in the 4th Ward.

On the day of his death, Mr. Yang's older brother and younger sister both rushed to the labor camp to find out the cause. The camp administration and the Lingshan County CCP Political and Judiciary Committee personnel pressured his family, trying to force them to sign papers that would authorize immediate cremation without letting the family see his body. Facing strong resistance, the officials finally allowed the family to see Mr. Yang's body on the morning of November 19, then cremated it on November 21, 2008.

Ms. Tian Suhua, Handicapped as a Result of Persecution, Is Again Arrested and Detained

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Tian Suhua, 43, lives in Wenlou Village, Suburban Township, Xiangcheng City, Henan Province. She was illegally arrested by Shanan District Domestic Security agents from Zhoukou City on July 3, 2008. She was detained in the Zhoukou City Detention Center and later in the Xiangcheng City Detention Center after the Chuanhui District Procuratorate in Zhoukou City issued a formal order for her arrest and detention on August 7.

Ms. Tian is a single parent who surrendered custody of her only child to her brother and family due to financial difficulties. Due to her failed attempt at opening a hair salon, she took jobs as a cleaning lady and a singer in a dance hall.

She was detained in the Xiangcheng City Detention Center in 2000 because someone reported to the authorities that she practiced Falun Gong.

In the summer of 2001, Zhoukou City's 610 Office made Xiangcheng City an experimental site for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, and forced detained Falun Gong practitioners to participate in so-called "military training." Wu Zhen was a college student and also the nephew of the detention center head, Wu Yong. During summer vacation, he was recruited to take part in torturing Falun Gong practitioners. He once kicked Ms. Tian until she passed out. A doctor stuck about two dozen needles into Ms. Tian's body while attempting to resuscitate her. One of the needles was stuck deep into Ms. Tian's heels. Ms. Tian lost feeling in both feet, resulting in difficulty walking. Her eyesight was also affected and she suffered from blurred vision. She was sent to Shibalihe Women Labor Camp in Zhengzhou City where the torture continued because she remained steadfast in practicing Falun Gong.

After Ms. Tian was released, her life was even more difficult. She no longer had a field to plant crops, and she was handicapped, requiring the use of a walker. She used the meager amount of money given to her by her brother and friends to buy a hand-cranked three-wheeled cart and began her harsh life living in the streets.

She was arrested by Shanan District Domestic Security agents in Zhoukou City because she gave Traffic Police Division Leader Zhou Changqing  material about Falun Gong and Zhou reported Ms. Tian to CCP authorities.

At 11:00 a.m. on November 17, Ms. Tian was taken to Nandun District Court in Xiancheng City. Two police had to hold Ms. Tian down to prevent her from escaping the police car. Her sister quickly approached her and grabbed her. The police let the two sisters sit together because Ms. Tian could hardly walk. Ms. Tian defended herself convincingly when faced with the fabricated charges. She also demanded that she unconditionally be released.
