Mr. Kang Hong Is Sentenced to Forced Labor Again after Having Served Seven Years of Forced Labor

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Kang Hong is a resident in Dongliang District, Chongqing City. He has been sentenced to forced labor three times. He has served two two-year terms and one three-year term. On August 23, 2008, he was arrested again, and was later sentenced to forced labor once again. He was locked up at Xishanping Labor Camp in Chongqing City. At present, both of his legs are in casts and he is unable to walk.

Kang Hong is 49 years old. He graduated from the Medical University of Chongqing City in 1990s and upon graduation he worked at the Health and Wellness Clinic. He worked diligently and was highly regarded and praised by his managers and colleagues. Nearly every year, he was awarded the Model Worker Award. In 1993, he started to practice Falun Gong and had benefited from it both physically and mentally.

When the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to persecute Falun Gong on July 22, 1999, Kang Hong was arrested at work and was sentenced to two years of forced labor. He was locked up at Xishanping Labor Camp in Chongqing City. In the meantime, his father was frequently harassed, threatened and had money extorted from him by the policemen from Tongliang County Police Department. Under this huge pressure, Mr. Kang's father suffered a relapse of all the diseases and passed away in 2000.

In November 2001, Kang Hong was released. However, in less than a month, he was once again illegally arrested and sentenced to three years of forced labor, this time to Yongchuan Prison in Chongqing. After his arrest, his workplace fired him. Three years later, neither his hometown (his birth place), nor his former workplace allowed him to keep his personal record. Without having a personal record, he was unable to find any work, and he thus suffered severely.

In 2005, Kang Hong was arrested for the third time and was sentenced again to forced labor. He was imprisoned at the Xishanping Labor Camp. When the police arrested him, they also stole 1600 yuan from him. Later, when he asked the police to return his money, they only gave him 1000 Yuan back. In December 2007, when Kang Hong was released, as a result of the abuse he suffered in the labor camp, his mind had become slow, and he could not speak clearly.

On August 23, 2008, he was arrested by the police from Niujiaotuo Police Station. He was brutally beaten when the police arrested him. On September 12, he was escorted to Xishanping Labor Camp. On the way there, Kang Hong jumped out of the car in order to resist being further persecuted. However, both his feet were broken, and so he was kept at the labor camp's hospital.

When his family members went to see him, Kang Hong had to be carried out of his cell. He had received no medical treatment for his broken feet, and they were very swollen, and bluish purple in color. His family members strongly protested this lack of medical treatment. Finally, at the end of September, Kang Hong was taken to Beipei No. 9 Hospital for surgery. While being hospitalized, Kang's one arm was IV'ed, while the other arm was handcuffed to the bed and fastened down with two locks. His hand was handcuffed so tightly that his hand turned black. Despite being unable to walk on his two broken feet, and being thus bound to the bed, the thugs still had people monitor Kang Hong 24 hours a day.

The policemen who arrested Kang Hong also stole his ID card, computer and bank savings account book with more than 2000 yuan in it. When his family members went to the labor camp to ask for the return of the money, those thugs only admitted to taking Mr. Kang's ID card, but nothing else.
