  • Ms. Du Xuefang Has Died Under Suspicious Circumstances in Heihe City Detention Center

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Du Xuefang, 44, from Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province, was a worker in a food factory. She started cultivating Falun Gong in 1994, and she went to Beijing alone to clarify the truth after July 20, 1999 when the persecution began. She unfurled a banner at Tiananmen Square and was illegally arrested. Ms. Du was detained for two and a half years. After being released, she was forced to live a destitute life to avoid being arrested again.

On March 16, 2007, Du Xuefang went back to her hometown and was arrested when passing out truth-clarifying materials. Policemen from the Hailan Station of Heihe City detained her in the Heihe City First Detention Center.

On April 21, 2007, Ms. Du's family received notification of her death. The notice said that she died of "Sudden Heart Disease." However, Du Xuefang was very healthy, and she absolutely did not have heart problems. Her family saw that the clothes on her body were the same as the ones she wore when she was arrested more than one month earlier. The clothes were very dirty, and there were many stains on them.

Ms. Sun Shuxiang from Changchun City, Jilin Province on the Verge of Death Due to Torture

One evening in October 2006, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Sun Shuxiang from Changchun City, Jilin Province, visited another practitioner. She was arrested by police who were lying in wait for her. The policemen grabbed her backpack and confiscated her address book, cell phone and more than 500 yuan. She was first taken to Changchun City Economic Development Zone Police Station and later to the 3rd Detention Center of Changchun City . Nine days later, she was illegally sentenced for a year and six months of forced labor. Because she was already in critical health condition the guards at the forced labor camp did not accept her.

Two months later, before she had completely recovered, she was again arrested when out for a walk and taken to the Hongqi Street Police Station in Changchun City. Police confiscated the three Falun Gong books and truth-clarification materials she had on her. Police from the Chaoyang District Police Sub-Station and Changchun City Police Station interrogated her. One policeman who had tortured her with an electronic baton before yelled, "Tell me where you have been and who gave you these CDs!" Then the policemen surrounded her. One started pulling her hair out. Others tried to make her to sit on Master Li's picture. She refused. Then the police slapped her face. Blood came out of her mouth. Her lips became swollen. Then, the police director asked for a rope. They tied her arms tightly to the back of a chair. A policeman moved her legs so they would reach her head. The great pain made her unable to breathe. Then he put her legs back. She was tortured like this repeatedly. The torture lasted for the entire night, but she refused to cooperate.

The next day, they took a picture for her. A policeman pulled her hair and knocked her head against the wall. Then the police tried to take her fingerprints. She refused to cooperate. The police started twisting her arms. She screamed from the pain. The police did not stop torturing her until they had taken her fingerprints. She was then taken to the Changchun City Number Three Detention Center for more torture.

The torture of practitioners at the Number Three Detention Center was very brutal. On her second day, she was force-fed. She heard beating and screaming from the next cell. The inmates told her that the guards was asking some inmates to press tooth picks into practitioner's nails. Sometimes the guards covered practitioner's head with a plastic bag (for details of this torture, please check /emh/articles/2004/11/17/54624.html). Screams of pain could be heard every night. After being force-fed for a week, Ms. Sun Shuxiang was in critical condition. She was taken to the Police Hospital. There, she was taken into the Emergency Room twice the first night. She kept vomiting and passing blood. Her heart beat was 170 per minute and her voice was very weak. And sometimes she went into a coma.

Her family asked that she be released. But, the hospital refused and did it allow them to see her. Then, the police went to her home and tried to extort money. Her family did not have money. So, the police did not release her. After more than twenty days, despite being on the verge of death, police at the Changchun City Police Station sentenced her to a year and six months of forced labor. She was taken to the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp, Changchun City. However, staff at the forced labor camp did not dare to accept her given her health condition. Therefore, she was finally released.

Mr. Li Xinguang Near Death at Henan Province Third Forced Labor Camp, Family Not Allowed to Visit

Mr. Li Xinguang, a practitioner from Nanyang City, Henan Province, was arrested on March 6, 2007, by Wolong Police Station in Nanyang City. After being detained in the Nanyang City First Detention Center for two weeks he was transferred to the Third Forced Labor Camp of Xuchang City, Henan Province.

Mr. Li has been abused to the point that he is almost unrecognizable. His stomach has hemorrhaged and he had blood in his stool. He cannot eat any food and so has become extremely emaciated. Although he is on the verge of death his family is not allowed to visit him.

Four other Falun Gong practitioners were sent to the forced labor camp with Li Xinguang.

Henan Province Third Forced Labor Camp is also known as Xuchang City Third Prison. Like Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, it is known as a hell-on-earth because Falun Gong practitioners are treated so brutally. Most of the male practitioners arrested in Henan Province are sent to the Xuchang City Third Prison for "transformation." The guards there use all kinds of inhuman, brutal, wicked and obscene methods to make Falun Gong practitioners renounce their faith.

    1. Instigating Criminal Inmates to Torture Practitioners

The authorities assign three to five criminal inmates who are drug addicts, thieves, etc., to specifically watch each practitioner's every word and deed. The criminal inmates receive bonuses, term reductions, or punishment, depending on how well they monitor the practitioners. When the guards are satisfied, the inmates' sentences may be reduced. If not, they may be beaten, cursed, or have their terms extended. These inmates are not rational to begin with, and the vicious method of bonuses or punishment just makes them worse. Thus the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners becomes even more inhuman. The inmates beat practitioners for no reason, force them to write the so-called three statements, and deprive them of sleep even when the inmates themselves change shifts. In summer, the inmates force practitioners to run for long periods of time in the scorching sun. On winter nights, they force practitioners to stay outdoors without protective clothing to suffer from the cold.

    2. The Police Are Obscene and Morally Inferior to Animals

When practitioners are steadfast in their cultivation, the guards use several electric batons to shock them for hours every day, or use rubber clubs, table or chair legs to beat their lower bodies. Many practitioners have become paralyzed as a result of the beatings. The guards also force practitioners to do slave labor for 18 hours per day. For practitioners who refuse to write the three statements, five or six inmates will hold them to the floor, strip off their clothes, tie nylon strings to their penises, and then yank the strings. The practitioners scream and pass out from the excruciating pain. Such torture causes the penis to swell to the size of a fist, and urinating becomes very difficult. What is even more inhuman is when several inmates hold a practitioner down, and push a hard-bristled toothbrush into his anus, and then move it in a circular motion and push it back and forth. The practitioner will pass out in extreme pain. But they do not stop there―they put the tooth brush, now covered with blood and feces, into the practitioner's mouth and brush his teeth with it.

    3. The "Straitjacket" Torture Method

It is said that the "straitjacket" torture method was used first at the Henan Province Third Forced Labor Camp.

The straitjacket is made of fine canvas. The sleeves are about 10 inches longer than the victim's arms, and have buckles on the ends. The jacket is put on the victim from the front and the sleeves are tied in the back. After putting the straitjackets on the practitioners, the guards then pull their arms up over their heads and bring them to the front of the chest, tie up the practitioners' legs, and suspend them from the iron window frames. At the same time, they gag the practitioners' mouths with cloth, put earphones in their ears and continuously play messages that slander Falun Gong.

The arms of the victims tortured by this method are immediately disabled, as the tendons of the shoulders, elbows, and wrists are torn and permanently damaged. If applied for a long time, the victims can die in excruciating pain. No one can tell exactly how many Falun Gong practitioners have been subjected to this torture, which is used by the guards and rewarded by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Many Falun Gong Practitioners from Weifang City, Shandong Province Arrested on April 18, 2007

On the night of April 18, 2007, the authorities from the Weifang City Police Station plotted to arrest over 10 Falun Gong practitioners. The arrested practitioners include Mr. Dai Zongzhen, Ms. Dai Juan, Mr. Wang Peng, Mr. Tan Foli and his wife, Mr. Wang Xinmin, Mr. Wang Yu, Mr. Wang Jilin and his wife, Ms. Wang Guifang, Mr. Qiu Zhenhua, Ms. Liu Suxiang, Mr. Qiu Zhaohua, Mr. Zheng, Mr. Song, Mr. Liu, and Mr. Jiao. Mr. Dai Zongqiu (Dai Zongzhen's brother in Anqiu City) was also arrested on the same day. Other practitioners were also arrested.

One practitioner's workplace was ransacked. After the door was pried open, the officers stole a van and two motorcycles, among other belongings. The warehouse gate where many Falun Gong truth-clarification materials were stored was broken into and the materials taken away. The perpetrators had been monitoring some practitioners for a long time and then arrested them in different places.

At about 7:30 p.m. on April 18, Mr.Wang Xinmin and Mr. Wang Yu were arrested in Wang Yu's home in Beiwanger Village.

At about 7:00 p.m. that same evening, practitioners Ms. Wang Changxiu, Ms. Liu Aimei, and Ms. Han Yuhua were all arrested. Their residencies were ransacked. All the Falun Gong books and 1700 yuan were stolen from Wang Changxiu. Mr. Dai Zongqiu from Anqiu City, and Dai Zongzhen from Kuiwen City were arrested. The television and DVD player in Dai Zongzhen's home were stolen. The arrested practitioners were detained in the Beiyuan Police Station in Weifang City. Their family members went to appeal for their release at about 8 a.m on April 19.

Personnel from Weifang City State Security Bureau and police broke into Mr. Tan Foli's home the same night. They arrested him and stole some belongings.

Also that same night, officers from Weifang City 610 Office arrested practitioner Mr. Hua Yuliang.

Mr. Qu Yanlai's Younger Sister Taken Against Her Will By Shanghai Police

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Qu Yanyan from Daqing City visited her older brother, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Qu Yanlai, who was illegally imprisoned at Tilanqiao Prison in Shanghai on March 20, 2007. That very evening, she was taken against her will by the Shanghai State Security police from the Zhongye Hotel located at 235 Xiashan Road, Hongkou District, Shanghai.

As early as September 30, 2002, when police from Taopu Police Station in Shanghai arrested Mr. Qu Yanlai, the Shanghai State Security police had intended to arrest Ms. Qu Yanyan, and colluded with Daqing City police to implement the plan. But beforehand some people exposed the plan to a member of Ms. Qu Yanyan's family, and her relative paid a large sum of money to Daqing City police to make them drop the plan.

Ms. Qu Yanyan's older brother, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Qu Yanlai, once won a special award at the national Olympic chemistry competition and the top award at the national Olympic Mathematics Competition. He graduated from the Energy Engineering Department of Shanghai Jiaotong University. Because he persisted in practicing Falun Gong, he was illegally sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment and illegally imprisoned at the Tilanqiao Prison in Shanghai City. Mr. Qu Yanlai once went on a hunger strike (taking no food nor water) for over 750 days to protest the detention and persecution, as well as to strive for the right to do the exercises.

By March 2007, the police at the prison still continued persecuting Mr. Qu Yanlai, who had already been on the hunger strike for more than four and half years. The additional persecution put his life in jeopardy. The police were compelled to send Mr. Qu to the prison hospital. Mr. Qu Yanlai was taken to the fourth floor of the Second Prison Zone from the Sixth Prison Zone by the prison police who tied him up with a leather belt and handcuffed him. The police in the Second Prison Zone continue various mental and physical tortures on Mr. Qu Yanlai, who is extremely thin at present.

The Persecution in Mingshan County, Yaan City, Sichuan Province

Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the minghui.ca website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).

Agents from the Mingshan County Police Department have persecuted Falun Gong practitioners for the past several years. Below are several examples.

Ms. Yang Qiongfang went to Beijing to appeal in 2000. She was picked up and taken back by the Mingshan police, who extorted money from her. She was sentenced to two years in prison in 2004 for explaining the facts and had several thousand Yuan extorted from her.

The Mingshan police interrogated Mr. Gao Xianxiao, Ms. Hu Rong, Ms. Wu Xueyu and others.

Hu Rong was sentenced to one-and-a-half years in prison, and Wu Xueyu was sentenced to two years in prison. They were taken to the Nanmusi Women's Labor Camp in Zizhong City.

Mingshan police arrested Ms. Song Wenfen and Ms. Wang Longying on October 7, 2004. They ransacked the practitioners' homes and extorted money from them.

Song Yuanfen was arrested again on February 26, 2005. She was sentenced to 21 months in prison, following a one-month detention.

Mingshan police detained Mr. Li Chaoqing for 14 days in 2000 and extorted 190 Yuan from him.

Mingshan police arrested Ms. Lu Guangxin and interrogated her several times between February and March 2004. They also repeatedly harassed her at home.

Mingshan police ransacked Mr. Chen Yonghe's home and took Falun Gong books in 2006. They also interrogated him. Mingshan police and officers from the Yaan Police Department ransacked his home again on July 13, 2006 and took some Falun Gong books and materials. They took Chen Yonghe to a Yaan Detention Center and held him there for one month.

Mingshan police body-searched Mr. Wang Guobing in 2006 and detained him for seven days.

Li Mingshu, Zhang Fabing and Gou Yongqiong from the Mingshan Police Department have persecuted Falun Gong practitioners over the past eight years. Xie Guidong, Wang Yong and Gao Run ransacked practitioners' homes, harassed and detained them, and sentenced them to prison.

Mr. Luo Laiyang and Other Falun Gong Practitioners from Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province Living in Persecution-Induced Exile

Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the minghui.ca website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).

Agents from the 610 Office, the National Security Bureau and other officials in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province have followed Jiang Zemin's group to persecute practitioners since July 20, 1999. This led to the death of at least 18 practitioners.

Practitioners Luo Laiyang, Hu Yonghong and Shu Ming were harassed, arrested and detained by the police and National Security agents. Right now, Luo Laiyang and Shu Ming are living in exile to avoid arrest, and Hu Yonghong is held at the No. 1 Detention Center in Nanchang City.

Luo Laiyang is in his 60s and worked at the 81st Linen Textile Factory in Jiangxi Province. Zhang Yuanchao, the Politics and Law secretary from the linen factory, Du Fang, head of the police department, and political head Wang Yan tried to arrest him. They have withheld his pension.

Ms. Hu Yonghong, 51 years old, lives near Nanchang City Police Department. The police arrested her in March 2007. She is currently being held at the 1st Detention Center of Nanchang City.

Mr. Shu Ming is 47 years old. Several years ago Li Chuanzhong, deputy head of the Chaoyang Farm Police Station in the Xihu District, Nanchang City went to Shu Ming's workplace twice. He pressured Mr. Shu's superiors to fire him without any explanation. Political head Yin from the Chaoyang Farm Police Station led several police officers. They went to 141 East Nanjing Road and they tried to secretly abduct Shu Ming. Practitioner Shu Ming left home and lived in exile.

Four Sisters Sentenced for Practicing Falun Gong in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region

Note: The following is an abridged version of a more detailed article that appeared on the minghui.ca website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).

In the beginning of April, 2007, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Supreme Court sentenced practitioners Ms. Zhang Yanping and her three sisters, along with five other people. Their sentences were executed locally. All practitioners were charged with "plotting to overthrow the government" and they were found guilty of "disturbing the execution of law". Here are their sentences:

Ms. Zhang Yanyun was sentenced to six, Ms. Zhang Yanping to five Ms. Zhang Yanlin to five, Ms. Zhang Xiuzhen and Ms. Zhao Xuemei to four, and Ms. Yu Yuejuan was sentenced to three years. However, since Ms. Yu had been sentenced to three years and four years of probation for practicing Falun Gong, and her term was not over yet, her sentence was extended for a year and her total term is 4 years; Ms. Yang Yingjie was sentenced to three years; Ms. Zheng Xinxiu and Mr. Li Gang (not a practitioner, Ms. Zhang Xiuzhen's son) were sentenced to three years with four years of probation.

Between March and August of 2006, Yue Jiangmin (male), Huang Tai (male) and others from the National Security Group of Changji City Police Department arrested dozens of practitioners and their family members.

Among them were four sisters, Zhang Xiuzhen, Zhang Yanping, Zhang Yanyun and Zhang Yanlin. By August 2006, the Changji Prefecture Procuratorate had tried to charge fourteen practitioners with attempting to "overthrow the government". Due to lack of evidence, charges had to be dropped against five of the practitioners. On November 2, and November 3, 2006, the Changji Prefecture Court held a hearing on eight practitioners and one unrelated person, charging them with trying to "overthrow the government". Due to insufficient evidence, no verdict was reached and their cases were transferred to Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Supreme Court.

In January 2007, Wang Lequan (male), the CCP Secretary of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Zhang Xiuming (male) and Zhu Haicang (male), secretaries of the CCP Political and Judiciary Committee of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, jointly proposed a plan of "attacking three target groups" during the Political Consultation Conference of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. During the meeting, Rozi-Simayi, the Procurator-General of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Procuratorate took the stand of "exerting the highest pressure" towards the "three target groups". Maimaiti-Yusupu, the chief of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Supreme Court also took a stand of "toughest sentences" towards the "three target groups".

Many of the sentenced practitioners decided to appeal.
