  • The Verification in January 2007 of Ten More Practitioners That Have Died from Persecution in China

Minghui/Clearwisdom correspondent Li Ming reported on the verification of ten more deaths of Falun Gong practitioners in China have died from persecution. This was verified in January 2007. Six of the practitioners were women, representing 600f the total deaths. Of the ten practitioners, two died in January 2007, six in 2006, one in 2005, and another in 2001.

Among the victims, except for one practitioner whose age is yet to be verified, five out of nine practitioners were in their 50s. The youngest was Duan Yuanle, a 27-year-old man from Wusheng County in Sichuan Province. The eldest was Ms. Hu Guangzhen, a 72-year-old practitioner who lived with her family at the Hefei Education Institute in Anhui Province.

The ten deaths verified in January 2007 occurred in eight provinces and autonomous regions in China. Two of the deaths occurred in Hunan Province and Jilin Province, and the other deaths occurred in the regions of Heilongjiang Province, Hebei Province, Sichuan Province, Guangxi Autonomous Region, He'nan Province, and Anhui Province.

It has been eight years since the brutal persecution of Falun Gong began, perpetrated by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its former dictator, Jiang Zemin. To date, the deaths of 3,001 Falun Gong practitioners as a result of persecution have been verified, despite the CCP's strict information blockade. Even though 3,001 deaths have been confirmed through a non-governmental channel that has broken through the tight blockage of information by the CCP, the actual number of Falun Gong practitioners killed by the Communist regime far exceeds this number.

Despite the brutal persecution that has been imposed on them for the past eight years, Falun Gong practitioners have continued to uphold the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" and have persistently clarified the truth of Falun Gong to the world. As a result, many people have experienced the supernatural results of Falun Gong in the form of improved moral character, peaceful minds, better health, and a new lease on life. However, the CCP continues to persecute these good people. Presently, hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners are being arrested and illegally detained and imprisoned in labor camps, brainwashing centers, hospitals, and prisons.

Ms. Lin Tiemei, a 33-Year-Old Postgraduate Student, Was Tortured to Death by Forced Labor Camp and Mental Hospital Authorities

Guangxi Falun Gong practitioner Ms.Lin Tiemei died as a result of torture on December 8, 2005. Authorities from Guangxi Woman's Forced Labor Camp and Guangxi Demobilized and Retired Serviceman Hospital are responsible for her death. She was only 33 years old. Statistics show that three other practitioners were persecuted to death at the same hospital.

Ms. Lin from Bobai County in Guangxi Province, was a post-graduate student from Beijing Medical College. Because of her unyielding belief and persistent efforts in clarifying the truth of Falun Gong, she was arrested twice between 2000 and 2004. Bobai County police took her to a forced labor camp where she was subjected to various inhumane torture methods. The authorities tortured the previously robust practitioner to the point where she weighed approximately twenty-seven kilograms (55 pounds) and was emaciated. Once during her imprisonment, Ms. Lin was taken to the Bobai County Hospital for treatment. However, Bobai County Police Department ordered her to return to the labor camp for further torture before she had recovered from her injuries.

On October 1, 2000, Lin Tiemei was en route to Beijing to appeal to the central government. Police arrested and sentenced her to three years at Guangxi Women's Labor Camp. Liang Suzhen and Lv Dengyun joined with prison guards to conduct so-called "strict management" on steadfast practitioners, including Lin Tiemei. Criminal inmates were ordered to take turns watching practitioners around the clock and did not allow Ms. Lin and other firm practitioners to sleep. Sometimes she spent the entire night sitting on the ground, handcuffed behind her back, and she was also hung by the handcuffs. Lin Tiemei could not shower or relieve herself without the permission of the prison guards. Family members were not allowed to visit or bring daily necessities. The prison guards did not allow anyone to help her.

Lin Tiemei was subjected to inhumane torture at the labor camp. With her hands and feet tied tightly, her arms and legs were stretched out as wide as possible on a bed and she was forced to relieve herself on the bed. The prison guards also incited criminal inmates to beat Ms. Lin. They forced cleaning rags and stinky socks into her mouth, used rubberized fabric to seal her mouth, put a helmet on her head, handcuffed her, and took her to the so-called "dragon palace." This treatment and these conditions caused the skin around her mouth to become rotten.

In order to resist the torture inflicted on her, Ms. Lin went on a hunger strike, and prison guards force-fed her. According to a witness, Lin Tiemei was cruelly tortured by prison guards. She was handcuffed behind her back, forced to wear a metal helmet, and her mouth was sealed with rubberized fabric. Her entire body was black and blue as a result of the torture, and she was shocked with electric batons and other cruel torture devices.

At Guangxi Women's Forced Labor Camp, she was tortured until she became unconscious, and her life was in great danger. The guards started a rumor that she had gone insane because she practiced Falun Gong. During the 2004 Lunar New Year, the guards in the labor camp spread another rumor, that Ms.Lin Tiemei was released on bail for medical treatment. In reality, she was locked up in a secret room and totally restrained. She was handcuffed daily, not allowed to sleep, not given a blanket, even during the cold winter, and was forced to sit on a wooden board.

Lin Tiemei was then transferred to the Yulin Demobilized and Retired Servicemen Hospital in Gnuangxi, which is a district level mental institution.

On November 25, 2005, Lin Tiemei's family went to the hospital and demanded to see her. Hospital authorities rejected their request without giving a reason. Ten days later, on December 8, Ms. Lin Tiemei died as a result of the torture at the Demobilized and Retired Servicemen Hospital. The death report presented by the hospital described Lin Tiemei's death as a "sudden death."

After her death, the staff in the hospital dared not face the media. Ms. Tiemei's family refused to sign the cremation paper. To cover up the facts and deceive the public, the Bohai County Politics and Law Committee and the local 610 Office paid Lin Tiemei's family 16,000 yuan to avoid further trouble.

While Lin Tiemei was being held at the hospital, the physician-in-charge was Zhou Xiong. The nurses were Liang Zhanwei, Chen Wenlan, Jiang Beilian and Min Jiaai.

Practitioner Ms. Wang Yufang from Tonghua, Jilin, Persecuted to Death at Heizuizi Labor Camp

Ms. Wang Yufang, 53 years old, was from Huashu Village in Erdaojiang County, Tonghua City, Jilin Province. On August 9, 2005, her home was broken into and ransacked by local police. She was arrested and taken to Changliu Detention Center in Tonghua. Afterwards, she was sentenced to three years in Heizuizi Women's Forced Labor Camp in Chuangchun. While there, she was cruelly tortured and brutally tormented, both mentally and physically.

When the guards in Heizuizi Labor Camp realized she was dying, they notified her family. On December 18, 2006, her family took her home. She was unable to walk or eat and was on the verge of death. Thirty-seven days later, on January 25, 2007, Ms. Wang Yufang died.

Twenty-Seven-Year-Old Practitioner Mr. Duan Yuanle, from Wusheng County, Sichuan Province, Tortured to Death

Mr. Duan Yuanle, 27years old, was a high school graduate. He lived in Nonglin Town, Wusheng County, Sichuan Province. Mr. Yuanle suffered from severe epilepsy before practicing Falun Gong. He went to see many doctors in various hospitals but was cured. In 1998, he began practicing Falun Gong and he was cured of his illness. Mr. Duan Yuanle's father was so amazed by the effects on his son from practicing Falun Gong that he himself started practicing as well.

Duan Yuanle shared the wonderfulness of Falun Gong with others and wished that they would also benefit from Falun Gong. In late 2004, Mr. Duan bought a computer and a printer, and began to produce truth-clarifying materials at home.

On July 26, 2005, he was reported. The policemen from Hechuan District Police Department, including Qin Mengyun and Feng Yun, broke into Mr. Duan's home. They illegally arrested him and his father and took them to Hechuang National Security Group. Mr. Duan's father was released after his family paid a fine. Duan Yuanle was threatened, brutally tortured, beaten violently, and tormented. Then he was taken to Hechuang Detention Center where he was subjected to another four months of persecution.

Mr. Duan was transferred to Wusheng County Detention Center where he suffered further persecution. The police didn't notify his family until he was in critical condition. When family members hurried to Wusheng County Detention Center, they saw Mr. Duan lying in a coma on the ground, with white foam around his mouth. In these circumstances, the Wusheng 610 Office agents and the police in Wusheng National Security Group forced his family to take him home. They ordered his family to hold Mr.Yuanle at home until his trial and forced them to post bail.

On December 27, 2005, Mr. Duan's family took him home. By then, he had been tortured to the point of being unrecognizable. His face and head were injured, he was absent-minded, spoke incoherently and was unable to walk. His appearance would have brought anyone to tears.

Given the good care he received at home, Mr. Duan Yuanle's condition showed a slight improvement. However, the Wusheng policemen continued to harass him. They also informed him that the court granted only a three-year suspension of his sentence. Mr. Duan's mental and physical condition deteriorated as a result of the ongoing harassment. On October 7, 2006, he died at home.

After the incident, the police threatened Mr. Duan's family. They attempted to prevent them from telling anyone what happened. Up until now, Mr. Duan's family has not revealed the truth of Mr.Yuanle's death due to torture.

Seventy-Two-Year-Old Anhui Practitioner Ms. Zhu Guangzhen Beaten Brutally and Tortured To Death

Ms. Zhu Guangzhen, 72, lived in the family housing of Anhui Province Education Institute. After the beginning of the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Ms. Zhu went to Beijing three times to appeal to the central government. The second time she went, she was taken to the Anhui Province Liaison Office in Beijing. She was forced to sit in a squatting position for a long time and suffered cruel beatings and violent kicks that resulted in her legs being covered with purple bruises. She was later detained in the Hefei City Detention Center. The third time she went to Beijing to appeal, she was sent to a detention center in Hebei Province and was illegally detained there. She firmly refused to give in, and after an eight-day hunger strike, she walked out of the detention center with righteous thoughts.

Upon returning to Hefei City, she was arrested three times for clarifying the truth of Falun Gong, distributing truth-clarifying fliers, and protecting truth clarifying materials. The last time Ms. Zhu was arrested was before the 2002 Lunar New Year. Hefei City 610 Office agents and police officers from the Jinzhai Street Station (under the Luyang District, Hefei City Department) stormed into Ms. Zhu Guangzhen's home, ransacked the place, and arrested her. She was carried into the police vehicle, and her leather jacket was torn. When she wa detained, she held a hunger strike for one month. She was sentenced to three years in prison and taken to Suzhou City Prison in Anhui Province.

At Suzhou City Prison, Ms. Zhu Guangzhen still firmly believed in cultivating Falun Gong. Guards ordered prison inmates to slam her head against the wall by grabbing her hair, knocking out her front teeth. Her term was extended another six months, and it was not until July 2005 that she returned home. Ms. Zhu was severely tortured mentally and physically, resulting in the loss of much of her eyesight and general weakness. She died in July 2006.

Mr. Bai Jinqi Died after Six Months of Abuse in Benxi City Forced Labor Camp, Liaoning Province

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Bai Jinqi, 55, lived in Xishan Village, Gaosheng Town, Panjin City, Liaoning Province. He temporarily lived in Gaojia Village in suburban Panjin City because he was doing business in the Shuangtaizi Market. He used to be very healthy, but he was tortured to a skeleton-like state in less than six months inside a CCP labor camp and died upholding his beliefs.

On the morning of July 22, 2006, Mr. Bai was home alone when a group of policemen stormed in, arrested him, and ransacked his house. They made a mess and took away Falun Gong books, a printer, papers, and other materials. Neighbors said a big crowd of police came in several vehicles.

Three days later, his family reported him missing to the police station. They found out that he was detained in the Panjin City Detention Center. He was sentenced to one year of forced labor with ten days of detention without any legal procedures.

On August 3, 2006, Mr. Bai was taken to Benxi City Forced Labor Camp, where he was forced to write the Three Statements, watch brainwashing videos, write "thought reports," and do hard labor.

After one heavy labor session, Mr. Bai felt pain in the right side of his chest, and he could not get up. The labor camp forced him to pay to see the doctors. The doctors found that he had late-stage lung cancer, and suspected that the cancer had spread from the liver to the lung. The labor camp administration hid the diagnosis, and they lied to Mr. Bai, saying that his ribs were fractured.

On December 9, 2006, when Mr. Bai's family picked him up, he was as thin as a skeleton. He died on February 7, 2007.

Mr. Chen Yuanzeng in Liaoning Province Suffered From Severe Persecution

Mr. Chen Yuanzeng, 59, lived in Paifang Village, Qingtang Township, Zhuanghe City in Liaoning Province. He began to practice Falun Gong in 1998.

Prior to that he suffered from liver cirrhosis ascites and was hospitalized. His medical bill mounted to over ten thousand yuan. Doctors could not find a cure, so they released him and told his family to prepare for his death. After he began to practice Falun Gong, he quickly regained his health.

After July 20, 1999, local agents from the Qingtang Police Station raided his home repeatedly. In 2001, Chen went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. After he returned, the local police forced him to pay 7,000 yuan as a "fine." In November 2002, the local police arrested and took him to the Zhuanghe Detention Center. A month later his health deteriorated and the liver cirrhosis ascites recurred. The police had to send him home, where he could read Falun Gong books and do the exercises. He quickly recovered.

On December 8, 2006 [according to the Chinese Lunar Calendar], Mr. Chen and fellow practitioner Du Xingqian were clarifying the truth at Xiaohefang Village in Qingtang Township. Someone informed the police who arrested both practitioners. The police took them to the Zhuanghe Detention Center. Mr. Chen's liver cirrhosis ascites recurred soon after. He became so weak that he could not walk. Their meals lacked both quality and quantity—one piece of cornbread and a bowl of turnip soup were all they were given. Mr. Chen was suffering from severe symptoms, experiencing severe pain in the liver and stomach. He asked the police for medical attention, but the prison doctor was unsympathetic because the overseas media publicized his participation in the persecution. This doctor had once force-fed practitioners with hot pepper powder. The doctor said, "I don't treat Falun Gong practitioners." Even in such a dire situation, Mr. Chen still refused to wear the prison uniform. The police told criminal inmate Niu Dapeng to beat Chen Yuanzeng as punishment for his defiance.

One month later Mr. Chen was sent to Dalian City Forced Labor Camp, directly into a strictly controlled team. The team head was officer Wang, who refused to let the inmates do laundry, and even washing their faces in the morning was tightly controlled. The sanitary conditions were so bad that the inmates' winter coats and blankets were full of lice. Suffering from poor health, Mr. Chen, already unable to walk, could not work, either. More than 20 people slept in a room that had only eight single beds. The room was so cramped that people could not move much. Mr. Chen suffered a broken rib. When he asked for medical parole, officer Wang said he didn't have the authority to approve the request and refused to help.

Later Mr. Chen was sent to Group Eight. Before his transfer the head of Group Eight came to review Mr. Chen's circumstances and found him in bad shape. He was reluctant to take responsibility for Mr. Chen. Three months later Wang told the head of Group Eight that Mr. Chen's health was OK and "Please take him to your group." After Mr. Chen was transferred to Group Eight he was locked in a small cell. Two criminal inmates took turns to monitor him around the clock. They also had him sit in a small foldable stool from 5:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. every day. He was told to remain seated, even during meals. In a few days Mr. Chen became very weak. He again could not walk, and his liver cirrhosis symptoms returned. He almost lost his eyesight and his teeth became loose.

Mr. Chen insisted that he should go to a hospital, but the guards said, "You have no problem, it won't hurt you!" After his repeated requests the guards realized that his health was rapidly deteriorating.

One day officer Han took 500 yuan from Mr. Chen's pocket and sent him for medical attention. Because the police did not want this persecution to be known, they did not send him to the designated hospital. Instead, they sent him to officer Han's school buddy's office. This doctor reviewed the X-ray film and said that he had not seen a patient like Mr. Chen for a long time. They knew that Mr. Chen's situation was extremely serious, but they still refused to let him see another doctor. Before they left the hospital, the doctor told him that he was all right, but that his liver was not so good, and he needed some rest. He also told Mr. Chen to ask his family for some money to buy nutritious food. The doctor did not give him any medicine. After this hospital visit, Mr. Chen had only 30 yuan left. When they returned to the labor camp the guards transferred him to a larger room.

Mr. Chen has now been detained for more than a year. Dalian Forced Labor Camp officials always refuse his family's request to visit him.

Fellow practitioner Du Xingqian was sent to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp after being arrested at the same time. His present situation is unknown.

The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners at Hongzehu Prison in Jiangsu Province

Hongzehu Prison imprisons Falun Gong practitioners who have been sentenced to prison terms by courts located north of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province, while Suzhou Prison is the institution that imprisons practitioners who have been sentenced to prison by the courts located south of the Yangtze River. This article exposes several cases of how Hongzehu Prison persecutes Falun Gong practitioners.

In order to persecute the illegally sentenced Falun Gong practitioners, Hongzehu Prison set up an "education center." They collected a group of prison guards who have a so-called "high level of education" to act as the main force of the persecution, as well as other vicious personnel from other prison districts, to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

In 2004, the prison issued a false report claiming that 1000f the Falun Gong practitioners held there had been "transformed", and that none of them had gone back to practicing (this was known as the "Two 100%" report). To prevent the report from being discovered as a lie by the public, and to prevent those practitioners who were deceived by the brainwashing and "transformed" from returning to Falun Gong, the prison transferred over a dozen practitioners to other prison wards.

Falun Gong practitioner Chen Zhangu is from Baotou City, Inner Mongolia. After he experienced persecution in Baotou, he went to Xinpu City in Jiangsu Province. He stayed with Falun Gong practitioner Sun Yufeng (a college classmate). While clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to people, Mr. Chen was arrested by the local police. Another practitioner, Che Guangming (also a college classmate) was arrested at the same time. Mr. Che is from Yicheng District, Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province. The policemen robbed the practitioners of their money. Inside the detention center, Chen Zhangu went on a hunger strike for over 50 days, to protest the persecution. He was force-fed many times. In 2001, the Xinpu Court sentenced Mr. Chen to 10 years of imprisonment, Sun Yufeng to 9 years, and Che Guangming to 4 years. They were all imprisoned at the Hongzehu Prison.

In 2002, Falun Gong practitioner Tang Xuebin refused to be "transformed," refused to wear a prison uniform and to call out "report" before entering the prison offices. The prison guards forced Mr. Tang to run on the field. When Tang Xuebin would not comply, the prison guards made some inmates drag him and run. Very soon after that, Mr. Tang's pants were ripped and his legs started to bleed. Afterwards, the prison guards put Mr. Tang on a big board to further torture him.

Falun Gong practitioners Ding Chuangao, Xie Zhaoyuan, and Du Shaoguang are from Honghua Town, Yancheng City, Shandong Province. They were arrested while putting up some truth-clarifying materials along the streets of Xinxi City. The Xinxi City Court sentenced them to 9 years, 8 years and 7 years of imprisonment respectively. They were imprisoned in Hongzehu Prison to suffer persecution.

In 2003, Falun Gong practitioner Ni Haibin remained steadfast and for many months refused to be "transformed." The prison guards held "meetings of criticism." Several times, Mr. Ni was transferred to the "strictly controlled" team for persecution. In hot summer days the mosquitoes are fierce. The prison guards ordered some inmates to tie Ni Haibin onto a bed board. They stripped off his shirt to let the mosquitoes bite him. Still Mr. Ni would not give in. When the prison guards intended to put him in the "strictly controlled" team again, the team refused to accept him. They said, "He is incurable" (meaning, he cannot be "transformed"). For several years, the prison would not let Ni Haibin's family visit him, call him, or even write to him.

In the same year, a Falun Gong practitioner surnamed Pan was forcefully "transformed," but was able to wake up later. He quickly rectified himself. The prison guards transferred him from the education center to another prison ward to be further persecuted.

In 2004, Falun Gong practitioners Sun Jinfu and Tang Xueyong refused to do the forced labor. Sun Jingfu was sentenced to four years of imprisonment by the Wangjia District Court in Xuzhou City. Tang Xueyong is from Yancheng City. Afterwards, their heads were shaved. Mr. Sun wrote a stern and solemn statement, and an appeal to prove his innocence. The solemn statement says, "All of my words and behaviors that were not in accordance with Falun Gong are void and invalid!" The prison guards immediately transferred Sun Jinfu to Team 1. Soon after that, he was again transferred to Team 5 in the First Prison Ward. Mr. Sun refused to do the forced labor. Hence, he was placed in solitary confinement. Four inmates watched him 24 hours a day. When his prison term was coming to an end, Mr. Sun was transferred to the "leaving jail team." Sun Jinfu refused to squat during roll call. He also refused to take off his hat or sing the Chinese Communist Party songs (they were forced to sing those songs before meals every day). Because Mr. Sun refused to do the forced labor (sew soccer balls by hand), he was once again put in solitary confinement. He was monitored by inmates around the clock. Sun Jinfu finally left the prison on February 9, 2005.

The Cases of Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Liaoyang County, Liaoning Province

Liaoyang County, Liaoning Province is located in the middle the Liaodong Peninsula. Since July 20, 1999, under the ' direction and agitation of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities, many entities were involved in the persecution of Falun Gong. Agents from the Liaoyang County Police Department, from the 610 Office and from the National Security Group, as well as by representatives from the surrounding townships who were actively involved in the persecution led these despicable efforts.

Over the last seven years they have committed numerous crimes: mercilessly beating Falun Gong practitioners, illegally searching and robbing practitioners of their property, extorting money from 1,000 yuan to 40,000 yuan. In violation of the Chinese constitution, they put Falun Gong practitioners into brainwashing classes, issued illegal sentences and placed Falun Gong practitioners in forced labor camps. Agents from the local Liuerbao Township police station took part in the persecution. The CCP authorities named this station on August 23, 2005 the "outstanding national public security unit."

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Guo Shuyan, 38 years old, from Jitongyu township, went to Beijing to appeal on December 17, 2001. She was arrested that day and later transferred to the Liaoyang Detention Center and was subsequently put into a forced labor camp for three years. At the time of her transport to the notorious Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, she was physically feeble and in critical condition. She was sent home at 2 o'clock afternoon on December 30 and passed away the morning of December 31, 2001.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Mingyuan lived in Sanxin Community, Shoushan Township. Around 2 o'clock in the afternoon on March 15, 2001, Liaoyang County police surrounded his home, broke into his home from the 2nd floor balcony, arrested him, and searched his home. They also took away Falun Gong books and Master’s picture; confiscated cash of 11,000 yuan, and a 30,000-yuan deposit book in his child’s name. In 2002, the police withdrew this money from the bank. In November 2001, Li Mingyuan was illegally sentenced to 11 years in jail. He is now illegally incarcerated in Masanjia Second Prison in Shenyang.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Tian Weijun lived in Anzhuangzi Village, Shoushan County. He was arrested on December 27, 2003 and was later sentenced to nine years in prison. He is presently incarcerated in the 2nd Team of the 9th Ward at Panjing Prison. Tian Weijun’s wife, Wang Yinping, was sentenced to nine years in 2001. She is presently deprived of freedom in the 2nd Group of the Women's Branch of Liaoning Prison.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Qu Yongjiu lived in Sanxin Community, Shoushan Township. Liaoyang County police arrested him on July 4, 2002 at 6:00 a.m. He was sentenced to seven years and is presently an inmate at the Huazi Prison in Liaoyang. His wife, Yao Mei, was arrested on December 27, 2003 and was tortured by Liaoyang police department agents: subjected to the tiger bench; burned between the fingers with cigarettes, beatings, and verbal abuse. On January 10, 2005, she received an ten-year prison sentence and is presently being held at the Dabei Prison in Shenyang City.

On September 10, 2006, practitioner Mr. Xie Mingyi was arrested at his home. Participating in the arrest were Mujia Town Police Station head Zhang Fuhao, policeman Sun Tiexu, Ma Tingli and Liaoyang County National Security police officer Luo Qingshen. He was forced to make a confession by torture, and his present whereabouts are unknown. That was Xie Mingyi’s 3rd illegal imprisonment. On January 11, 2007, a middle school teacher practitioner in Liuerbao Town was arrested. Local police station agents and administration security personnel took him to Shoushan.

The CCP’s "caring education school" is actually a forced brainwashing class. It physically and mentally devastates Falun Gong practitioners. The brainwashing class supervisors in charge of brainwashing were: Wu Daguang, Bai Jie, Ling Xiuhua, Zhang Haiyan, and Ma Yongchang.
