Mr. Wu Jiuping Dies as Result of Persecution in Anhui Province

Mr. Wu Jiuping, in his 30s, lived in Tianchang City, used to work for the People's Hospital of Tianchang City . He began practicing Falun Gong in 1996. He was illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor in 2001 and three years in prison in 2003, with two years of probation.

At around 4:00 p.m. on November 22, 2007, Xia Wenshi, male, head of the hospital security office, along with the Domestic Security Team Head Chong Sicao (also the head of city 610 Office) of Tianchang City Police Department, and two police officers whose names are being investigated went to Mr. Wu Jiuping's home, a new fourth floor apartment aquired before Mr. Wu's upcoming wedding. They tried to arrest him. The details of what happened are under investigation. Mr. Wu's neighbor on the first floor heard a loud noise, thought something had fallen from upstairs, and found Mr. Wu on the ground. The neighbor called out for help and saw the four thugs quickly leaving, despite the fact that Mr. Wu was still moving on the ground.

It is not certain who called the ambulance, but only one rescue worker stepped out of the ambulance, carried Mr. Wu into the vehicle, and rushed him to the People's Hospital of Tianchang City , where Mr. Wu worked. Soon after, more than a dozen police officers came to seal Mr. Wu's home. Mr. Wu died in the hospital at around 8:00 p.m. that same day.

According to an eyewitness, Mr. Wu was still moving after he fell. He was wearing his white lab coat, which was substantially stained with blood. Sources said Mr. Wu was talking half-consciously after arriving in the hospital. The left side of his face was severely swollen, and his left eye was almost blinded. His whole back and lower body were covered with bruises. His left pelvis was crushed, and his left leg was broken. On the evening of November 22, 2007, the hospital was barricaded by police. The police told the public that Mr. Wu jumped from the building of his own accord. Mr. Wu's bride-to-be is a nurse working at the same hospital. She and his family are all being closely monitored, and they are not allowed to be seen.

Mr. Qi Tingsong Persecuted to Death at Laiwu Detention Center in Shandong Province

Mr. Qi was a 67-year-old retired teacher from Ezhuang Coal Mine in Xinwen Mineral Bureau, Shandong Province. On October 15, 2007 when Mr. Qi was clarifying the truth in Gouli Village, Gaozhuang Town, Laiwu City, he was illegally arrested by the police from Gaozhuang Police Station and detained at Laiwu Detention Center.

Yang Leping, security section chief at Ezhuang Coal Mine, conspired with another security section chief named Liu Qing from Laicheng District Police Branch in Laiwu City, trying to sentence Mr. Qi to a forced labor camp. Mr. Qi refused to cooperate with them and held a hunger strike to protest. His family went in person several times to ask for his release, but Liu Qing always refused their requests. He not only refused to release Mr. Qi, he also had people threaten him.

During this time, Chen Fayong, director of Laiwu Detention Center, instigated a group of police officers to savagely force-feed Mr. Qi Tingsong. They kicked his lower back and seriously injured him. His upper digestive system was seriously injured from the force-feeding, resulting in severe bleeding. Mr. Qi was near death.

In order to shirk their responsibility, Liu Qing, Chen Fayong, and government official Yang Leping decided to send Mr. Qi to Laiwu City Hospital. The hospital exam revealed that Mr. Qi's internal organs were failing and that he had serious internal injuries. He was taken to the hospital on the evening of November 5, and at 3:10 a.m. on November 6, Laiwu City Hospital issued a notice stating that he was in critical condition.

At this crucial moment, Liu Qing, Chen Fayong, Yang Leping, and Xie from Laiwu Procuratorate Office refused to assume responsibility for the medical expenses. The hospital then stopped the injections and Mr. Qi's medication. Officials deceived Mr. Qi's family into signing a document stating that the office had already released him and had nothing to do with whether he was alive or dead.

Mr. Qi had been physically strong and had no illnesses before he was arrested.

When Mr. Qi's life hung in the balance, the hospital stopped giving him injections and medication. Attempting to save his life, his family requested that his medical expenses be reimbursed. It was a fair request, but Yang Leping said, "You have not shown us outstanding service. If you had displayed outstanding service, we would have reimbursed your expenses." Mr. Qi had worked for Ezhuang Coal Mine almost his entire life, and now, when he had been tortured to near death, his small request was refused.
