  • Doctor Liu Xiaorong in Critical Condition after 11 Months Hunger Strike in the Women's Prison of Hebei Province

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Xiaorong is being illegally detained at the women's prison in Hebei Province. She has been steadfast against the persecution and has continued to ask for an unconditional release. It is now 11 months into her hunger strike and her weight has dropped to 55 kilograms. Her mental and physical health are at the limit of human endurance. Her cardiac muscle is seriously short of blood. She is very weak and in critical condition.

Ms. Liu Xiaorong, 43 years old, was a doctor at Longhua County Hospital in Chengde City, Hebei Province. Because of Ms. Liu's belief in Falun Dafa, she has suffered many times from different forms of physical torture since July 20, 1999. She was arrested, beaten, detained, cruelly tortured, forced to undergo brainwashing, sentenced, and forced into homelessness at times. She was also transferred from one jail to another many times.

On October 21, 1999, Ms. Liu went to Beijing to appeal. She wanted to explain to the government the truth about Falun Gong, which offers great benefits to the whole country without doing any harm. However, the local policedetained her.

In May 2000, she was sentenced to prison for three years, for supposedly disturbing public order and damaging the law. She was detained in Baoding Prison in Hebei Province first, then transferred to the Shijiazhuang Second Prison

In May 2001, Liu Xiaorong did not conform to the authorities' requirements and refused to be transformed. In the Shijiazhuang Second Prison, the guards used forced labor as an excuse to instigate four prisoners to drag her and another practitioner by their hair and hands, face down. The practitioners were dragged and kicked from the third floor to the bottom floor. Then they were dragged across several meters of a concrete road to a workshop. The prisoners used very dirty rags stained with excrement to stuff in their mouths, rendering them unable to talk. This torture occurred once every day. Ms. Liu's whole body was injured all over from beatings. Flesh and blood mixed together. Her back was all red with blood. Her flesh was torn and her clothing was shredded every day. Her blood dripped on the road. This was inhuman torture.

The authorities also tied her up with a rope, then hung a board around her neck with slanderous statements regarding Falun Gong and displayed her in public. The guards used an electric baton to punish her; they instigated the prisoners to beat her, they handcuffed her outside in the intense sun, and they locked her in a small room for a long period of time. All kinds of vicious methods were used to torture her. Shijiazhuang City is extremely hot during the summer. The jail cell is less than two square meters, with only a very tiny window for ventilation, and the floor is always wet. Ms. Liu was handcuffed the whole time. While bearing the hunger, prickly heat covered her body, and she suffered from mosquito bites. For more than a month she was forbidden to take a shower and change into clean clothing. She had to wear ragged clothing already full of mud, blood, and sweat. The guards and prisoners made fun of her misfortune. They humiliated and cursed her. This kind of inhuman torture lasted for three months. The authorities had used every tactic they could think of.

At the beginning of 2003, Ms. Liu went home at the completion of the three-year sentence. Her employer fired her. Her husband was influenced by the Chinese Communist Party's hatred of Falun Gong, and he irrationally held a grudge against Dafa. One day her husband got drunk and called the police . Ms. Liu was pushed into a police car and taken to the bureau. She was "illegally detained" with a false accusation. The bureau also extorted two thousand yuan from her husband. In order to prevent more unreasonable persecution, she was forced become homeless.

On the night of March 18, 2006 , Ms. Liu was clarifying the truth about Falun Gong on the train from Beijing to Longhua City when the police on the train arrested her. Then she was detained in the Shihuiyao Detention Center in Longhua County, Hebei Province. She went on repeated hunger strikes to protest. The police in the detention center were very vicious. Every morning around 9 o'clock, four police physically restrained her and brutally force fed her.

In May 2006, Ms. Liu was pulled and dragged by six policemen and women into a police car. They took her to Hebei Women's Jail. They put her in a vicious jail team. Ms. Liu and the other three practitioners resisted the persecution and went on hunger strikes to protest. As a result they encountered severe torture and punishment at the hands of the head of the jail and the deputy head of the jail (Zhang Yi'nu and Han)and other vicious authorities and prisoners. Three times daily these people used violent means to force feed the practitioners through their noses. In order to restrict their freedom, the authorities used prisoners to closely watch them 24 hours a day.

216 Persecution-Related Deaths of Falun Gong Practitioners Verified in 2006

According to an incomplete estimate based on information published on Clearwisdom.net, 216 deaths of Falun Gong practitioners as a result of persecution were verified through civil channels through 2006. Among them, 99 were women practitioners, accounting for 46 percent of these deaths. One-hundred-and-sixty-five practitioners died in 2006, and the remainder died before 2006.

The 216 deaths reported in 2006 were distributed across 26 provinces, cities, and autonomous regions. The highest death toll"35 practitioners"was recorded in Heilongjiang Province, followed by 31 deaths in Jilin Province, 25 deaths in Liaoning Province, 20 deaths in Hebei Province, 18 deaths in Shandong Province, 12 deaths in Sichuan Province, 10 deaths in Hubei Province, nine deaths in Chongqing City, eight deaths in Hunan Province, six deaths in Gansu Province, six deaths in Henan Province, five deaths in Beijing, five deaths in Shanxi Province, five deaths in Jiangsu Province, three deaths in Neimenggu Autonomous Region, three deaths in Jianxi Province, two deaths in Guangdong Province, two deaths in Tianjin City, two deaths in Guizhou Province, two deaths in Xinjiang Autonomous Region, two deaths in Shanxi Province, and one death each in Shanghai, Zhejiang Province, Guangxi Province, Anhui Province and Fujian Province.

During the seven-and-a-half years of genocide-style persecution of Falun Gong between July 20, 1999, and December 31, 2006, by the Chinese Communist regime, a total of 3,010 Falun Gong practitioners' deaths have been verified. Among them, women practitioners account for 1,631, or 54 percent. Eight practitioners were between ages 10 and 19, and 115 practitioners were between 20 and 29. An average of 33 practitioners died from persecution every month.

These statistics were smuggled out of China by Falun Gong practitioners and other conscientious people, despite tight restrictions on information and the Communist regime's best efforts to hide the truth. The incidents published on Clearwisdom.net represent only a very small percentage of what is really happening in this brutal persecution. A stunning number of practitioners and their families have been persecuted in the past seven-and-a-half years. Many others are missing. The harvesting of organs from living practitioners by the Communist regime was exposed in March 2006, and official data by the Chinese regime shows a rapid increase in organ trade in China during the past few years. The number of deaths of practitioners from persecution far exceeds what we are currently able to verify and publish because of the regime's brutal policies: "Ruin [Falun Gong practitioners'] reputations, bankrupt them financially, and destroy them physically" and "Beating [Falun Gong practitioners] to death is counted as suicide."

After the regime's harvesting of organs from living practitioners, "a form of vicious new to this planet," was exposed to the international community in March 2006, ("Report into Allegations of Organ Harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners in China" by David Kilgour and David Matas") the Communist regime shamelessly denied this practice while refusing to allow independent investigators to enter China to conduct on-site independent investigations. At the same time, the regime launched another round of arrests and killing of practitioners in an attempt to silence witnesses and destroy evidence. Many of the practitioners who died in 2006 were killed soon after being arrested. The regime savagely tortured to death many practitioners inside labor camps and other facilities. The regime also turned the practitioners over to their families only when the practitioners were at the brink of death, and the practitioners died soon after being released. Some practitioners were killed through "medical means." The situation confronting Falun Gong practitioners in Mainland China is still quiet perilous and demands urgent attention.

19 persecution-related deaths of Falun Gong practitioners verified in December 2006

Nineteen deaths of Falun Gong practitioners as a result of persecution were verified in December 2006. 14 died between January and December 2006 and five died in December 2006.

These 19 deaths spanned 13 provinces, cities, and autonomous regions. Four deaths occurred in Heilongjiang Province, followed by two deaths in Liaoning Province, two deaths in Gansu Province, two deaths in Shandong Province, one death in Jilin Province, one death in Chongqing City, one death in Sichuan Province, one death in Jiangsu Province, one death in Beijing, one death in Shanghai, one death in Shanxi Province, one death in Guangxi Province, and one death in Zhejiang Province.

Practitioners Mr. Shi Baoqi and Mr. Li Yuanbao killed through "medical means"

Practitioner Mr. Shi Baoqi was from Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. The Taiyuan City police went on a rampage to arrest practitioners after a recent visit from a "supervisory group" from the central regime. Officers from Taiyuan City Police Department and from the Ximing Police Station broke into practitioner Li Caiyun's home, arrested Mr. Shi Baoqi and also practitioners Li Caiyun, Duan Fengqin, and Zhang Ruilian. The four practitioners were held at Taiyuan City Detention Center.

The police went back to Shi Baoqi's home the next day and confiscated Falun Gong materials. It was learned that Shi Baoqi was brutally tortured at the detention center. Mr. Shi was taken to the No. 109 Police Hospital in Taiyuan City on November 30, 2006. After an intravenous infusion with unknown drugs he immediately began to sweat profusely and died suddenly after being taken back to a cell at the detention center. Li Yaqin, female, and Dr. Liu, the female chief physician "treated" him. The police then tried to bribe his family with 50,000 yuan in exchange for silence, but the family refused to cooperate.

According to published information, many practitioners have been killed there.

Practitioner Mr. Li Yuanbao was 59 years old and an artist living in the dormitory of the Chengxian Yueju Opera Group in Yuhuan County, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province. Li Yuanbao and his wife went to Beijing to clarify the truth about Falun Gong after the persecution began. The police ransacked their home and harassed and threatened them many times. His wife, who was in her 60s, was illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor. The police went to his home several times. Once they dragged him on a tricycle and took him to the police department for brainwashing. He refused to "reform" and the police put a pair of handcuffs in front of him and threatened him. Li Yuanbao suffered terribly.

Mr. Li's wife was released two years later. One day he suddenly could not move one of his arms. His son took him to the Yuhuan County People's Hospital where a young chief surgeon pressured his wife daily to consent to brain surgery. His wife refused because all of the patients who had undergone brain surgery at that hospital during that period had died. A brain surgeon in another city repeatedly told Li Yuanbao's wife on the phone not to let the local doctors perform brain surgery. He told her, "It's OK that he [Li Yuanbao] is in a coma. He'll regain consciousness on the seventh day and the critical period will pass." Mr. Li 's wife read Zhuan Falun" to him while sitting close to him, and sometimes he came out of the coma briefly and looked at her when listening to the Fa.

Li Yuanbao's wife refused to sign the consent form, and a doctor brainwashed by the Communist Party threatened her, "Falun Gong is disapproved of by the government! How dare you go against our hospital with Falun Gong? Just you wait!"

The morning of the seventh day the nurses were extremely surprised to find Mr. Li Yuanbao awake and conscious, and his breathing, blood pressure, and heartbeat were back to normal. At this point, however, the young chief surgeon directed the nurses to force unknown drugs into Li Yuanbao's mouth. They refused to stop when he vomited violently; they simply forced more drugs down his throat. His two sons tried their best to stop the hospital staff but failed. Mr. Li Yuanbao died shortly afterward.

Ms. Zhang Yunzhi from Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province, died from internal organ damage as a result of brutal beatings

Ms. Zhang Yunzhi, 51, was from Nianzishan, Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province. She began to practice Falun Gong in October 1998. She never wavered in her belief in Falun Dafa, persisted in the practice, and also appealed for Falun Gong in Beijing. She was arrested five times and brutally tortured. After the first four arrests she was able to break free with the power of her righteous thoughts and righteous actions. After the fifth arrest, however, the police beat her until she nearly died. Her entire body became swollen and fluid oozed from her legs. Eventually she died from severe internal organ damage as a result of the beatings.

More than 100 police officers from the Nianzishan District Police Department broke into four practitioners' homes at 7:30 a.m. on March 31, 2006, and arrested seven practitioners. The police took away three computers, two VCD players, one VHS player, and a few Falun Gong books. The practitioners were brutally beaten and forced to pay fines. The police specifically targeted Ms. Zhang Yunzhi. With personal instructions from Wang Hongxin, deputy director of Yuejin Police Station, a group of officers wrapped Ms. Zhang's head in a plastic bag and proceeded to beat her ruthlessly until she lost consciousness.

Afterwards, the police sent her to the Neurology Department at Hoshan Hospital and later on told her family to go to there as well. When her family arrived she seemed to have convulsions, vomited blood, and was incontinent, lying in her own waste. She was unconscious and barely alive. The doctors at the hospital were shocked by her condition and dared not prescribe any medication for her. Her family was devastated and repeatedly asked to take her home. The police, however, refused to release her saying, "We need authorization from our superiors." It was past 2:00 p.m. when they finally let Zhang Yunzhi's family take her home.

Ms. Zhang regained consciousness at home some time after. She endured excruciating pain without complaint. A few times she vomited blood, and her urine was bloody and malodorous. Her abdomen swelled to the point that she could not eat or lie down. Later, her abdomen became swollen to the extreme and her head shrunk; the rest of her body was skeleton-like. Her buttocks ulcerated, and there were beehive-like small holes on her legs from which fluid seeped. It took six rolls of toilet paper a day to clean up the fluid. She had to completely rely on others' care at all times.

She passed away at around 4:00 p.m. on October 2, 2006.

    71-year-old blind practitioner brutally persecuted

Mr. Guo Haishan, 71 years old, was a retiree from the 19th Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Missile Technology (CAMT). He was blind in both eyes. Because he persisted in practicing Falun Gong, he was arrested twice, once in the summer in 2002 and then in the summer of 2006. Both times he was sent to a brainwashing center.

Zhu Yanhua, head of the 610 Office at the CAMT, and his henchmen from the Fengtai District Branch of the Beijing City Police Department and from the Donggaodi Police Station started to arrest and torture local practitioners in the spring of 2006 without restraint. They followed practitioners, tapped their phones, threatened their bosses, arrested them and ransacked their homes. They confiscated many PCs, printers, DVD burners, Falun Gong books, and several thousand copies of Falun Gong materials from the practitioners' homes. They sent practitioners either to a forced brainwashing center or a forced labor camp. This included Mr. Guo Haishan and his wife, Xu Xiuying. Zhu Yanhua threatened to send those practitioners in the brainwashing center that refused to renounce Falun Gong directly to the forced labor camp.

Mr. Guo Haishan died on November 26, 2006 at the age of 71 as a result of the persecution.

Falun Gong practitioners in China have endured more than seven years of genocidal persecution by the CCP in order to uphold the goodness of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." The persecution is a disgrace to mankind and is a persecution of the entire world. Let us see through the true nature of this vicious persecution that has targeted a group of kind and innocent people and together, with justice and conscience, end the crime.

A Gongzhuling City Tricycle Driver Tortured Until Unconscious

While Mr. Wang Yancai was parking his tricycle around 7 p.m. on November 24, 2006, the police were arresting Falun Gong practitioners. He was also arrested for no reason and sent to the Dongsan Police Station in Gongzhuling City, Jilin Province. The police handcuffed him and forced him to admit he was a Falun Gong practitioner.

On the morning of November 25 policemen beat and kicked him during their interrogation. Wang Yancai’s face and head were injured. Later officer Ding wiped the blood off his face and forced him to sit for a mug shot. When he was sent to the detention center, Yu Bo and Deputy Chief Yang Dashuai beat him again, and he was again rendered unconscious.

On the afternoon of November 25, 2006, Yang Dashuai and Yu Bo interrogated Wang Yancai. They again forced him to admit he practiced Falun Gong. Mr. Wang was beaten on the spot until he blacked out; he was unconsciousness for more than five hours, and four detainees carried him into a detention cell.

Police officer Wang Lijun twice had two detainees burn Mr. Wang Yancai’s fingers with lighters, trying to see if he was still alive. He didn’t react even when his fingers were burned, but Dongsan Police Chief Sun Wei shouted, "They haven’t beaten him enough."

Supplementary Information on the Persecution of Mr. Feng Bingkun and Ms. Tang Jinai from Zengcheng City, Guangdong Province

In February 2005, practitioner Mr. Feng Bingkun was illegally arrested by the police in his hometown in the Zhenlong District, Zengcheng City. In May 2005, the court in Zengcheng City sentenced him to three years and five months in jail. His sentence will be completed on May 20, 2008. The Zhenlong Town Police Station is now a part of Zhenlong Police Station in Jiulong Town, Luogang District, Guangzhou City.

According to Chinese law, when a person is sentenced, local police must give the verdict to the family so that family members can go see the person in prison. But the local police dared not deliver the verdict to Mr. Feng Bingkun's family. They were afraid of leaving evidence of their illegal persecution. The family only received a short letter from Mr. Feng in March 2006, during the first two years while he was in prison. All the goods and letters the family had sent to him at the address on his letter were returned. His poor parents have to live on their pension of less than 100 yuan each month. Sometimes they don’t even have the money to buy rice. They didn't have the resources to search out where he was imprisoned and whether he was alive or not.

In December 2006, with the help of some kind-hearted people, Feng Bingkun’s elderly parents managed to go to Sihui Prison in Jiguangtang Town, Sihui County, Guangdong Province. They could only talk to their son through a phone with a thick screen separating them. The whole meeting was videotaped. With the police monitoring them all the time, they were not able to find out more about the persecution of practitioners in Sihui Prison, but according to Feng Bingkun, kicking and beating were the normal practice. In Sihui Prison non-practitioner inmates can meet with their families twice to three times a month and can phone their families from prison. They also can have meals with their families in the prison’s meeting hall. But practitioners are strictly monitored and supervised. They can only see their family once a month at the most. Phone calls and letters to family are prohibited. Letters and packages sent by their families are all returned without exception. Even the clothes and the shoes (except underwear) the family members personally bring to them are returned.

The Party persecutes practitioners unscrupulously and damages their dignity, deprives them of their basic rights, economically disadvantages them, and even takes their lives. They persecute them to the extent that "no means is too excessive." But they fear that the Chinese people and the world's people will come to know the truth, so they try to block information level by level.

Police and officials from the 610 Office persecuted Feng Bingkun’s wife, Ms. Tang Jinai, from Zhenglong Town, Zengcheng City, many times. (Please refer to the article published on April 7, 2005, on Minghui/Clearwisdom. The article entitled "Police Force Pregnant Falun Gong Practitioner from Zengcheng, Guangdong Province to Undergo an Abortion" at /emh/articles/2005/4/23/59988.html). After Mr. Feng was arrested, his wife and one-year-old child had to abandon their home and live elsewhere. They had to wander around, had no source of income, and had to rely on the help of friends and patrons. They have to constantly change places and live at the mercy of others. In order to please their superiors and receive a reward, the local police rented a house near Ms. Tang’s parents' home to monitor them in the hope of catching her. They use taxpayers’money to shamelessly persecute ordinary good people.

In June 2006 the police obtained her phone number when she made phone calls to her parents. They used cellphone tracing technology to locate and monitor her. They surrounded the work unit where she had a temporary job and arrrested her again. (Please refer to the article entitled "Ms. Tang Jinai, a Falun Gong Practitioner from Guangzhou City, Was Illegally Arrested - Her Two-year-old Toddler was Forced to Separate from Her Parents" published on Clearwisdom on August 18, 2006, at /emh/articles/2006/8/18/77001.html) Her family went to the local police station to demand her release. The police didn’t release her but framed her instead. According to the Party’s own law, when there is an infant in a family, one of the arrested parents should be released to take care of and feed the baby. Though the police in Guangzhou didn’t sentence Ms. Tang Jinai, they still put her in the infamous Chatou brainwashing center for no legal reason.

Three Sisters from Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province Arrested

Falun Gong practitioners Wang Shupei, Wang Shucui, and Wang Shuping are three sisters from Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province. They were arrested on January 10, 2007, by Li Jianguang, an officer from the National Security Group who is in charge of the 610 Office in Zhaoyuan City. Their current whereabouts are unknown.

Ms. Wang Shupei had previously been illegally sentenced to six years in prison in 2004. She was tortured in the Shandong Province Women's Prison. When she appeared to be seriously sick, she was released on bail for medical treatment. After she went home, she did not have any income because she could not work due to her health. She lived an extremely poor existence. In addition, upon her arrest in 2004, officers from the police station in the Zhaoyuan City Economic Development Zone extorted seven thousand yuan from her. Ms. Wang went to the police station to request the return of the money, but the policemen just blamed each other. As a last resort, she went to the National Security Group of the Zhaoyuan City Police Department to report the extortion. Each time, she directly contacted police officer Li Jianguang, who pressured the Shandong Women's Prison to immediately detain her again. As a result, staff at the prison intimidated and harassed Ms. Wang Shupei through phone calls many times.

On the morning of January 10, 2007, Ms. Wang told her daughter that she was going to the police department to ask for her money back. When she had not returned by three o'clock in the afternoon, her family got worried. Her older sister ,Wang Shucui; younger sister. Wang Shuping; and her daughter went to the National Security Group of the Police Department and asked policeman Li Jianguang about Wang Shupei. He informed them that she had been detained because she was causing trouble. The two sisters argued with him, saying, "Is reporting to the authorities what has happened to citizens also 'causing trouble?'" Li Jianguang interrupted the sisters, saying spitefully, "Something is wrong with you, too! You need to go to a government study (brainwashing) session." He telephoned for backup and a police vehicle. They forced the two sisters into the vehicle and took them away. On a single day, Li Jianguang put three sisters in prison.

Mr. Wu Youchui Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Telling People "Falun Dafa is Good"

[Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the minghui.ca website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).]

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wu Youchui, in his 50s, is an early-retired employee of the 3rd Oil Collecting Plant, a branch of Dagang Petroleum Field located in Jiuzhou Town, Cang County, Hebei Province. Mr. Wu and his wife started cultivating Falun Gong in 1998 and both became mentally and physically healthy. He was arrested by policemen Xu Zhuwu, Wang Guidong, and others from Boxi District Police Department in Cangzhou City simply because he told people that Falun Dafa is good. He was detained for eight months in the Cangzhou City Second Detention Center and was sentenced to three years in prison, which is a very heavy term.

Ms. Sun Shuqing Arrested in Jilin City

Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the minghui.ca website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).

On January 4, 2007, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Sun Shuqing, who lives in the Gaoxin District of Jilin City, Jilin Province, was reported by a security guard when passing out truth clarifying materials inside the Changmao Garden neighborhood. Policeman Yao Zhenggang and others from Beishan Station in the Chuanying District of Jilin City arrested Ms. Sun Shuqing and detained her in Jilin City Detention Center that same day.
