  • Mr. Zhao Jiyuan from Liaoning Province Persecuted at Shenyang Second Prison for Nearly Six Years

hao Jiyuan is from Dadong District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. Because of his persistent practice of Falun Gong, he was arrested on February 27, 2001. Later, he was illegally sentenced to seven years in prison by the local court and sent to the Shenyang Second Prison.

At the prison, Zhao Jiyuan suffered beatings, was forced to wear torture instruments, was locked in a small cell, and was shocked with electric batons. Mr. Zhao has been continuously imprisoned and persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party for nearly six years.

Cultivating Falun Gong and Benefiting Society: A New World Opens

Mr. Zhao Jiyuan, 54 years old, was a worker at the Component Processing Factory at Shenyang City's No. 4 Architectural Engineering Company. Zhao Jiyuan started practicing Falun Gong in December 1998. Earlier, in July 1998, he was diagnosed as suffering from late stage stomach cancer, and was unable to go to work. He began to throw up every day, until he eventually could not eat anything. He even vomited the water that he drank. His weight dropped to 80 kg.

One day in December, Zhao Jiyuan listened to a cassette of Master's Fa lecture. After listening, a miracle happened: He recovered from his illness and was able to eat. On the next day, he could clean up the court and go to work. Zhao Jiyuan, who had a fatal disease, had become a healthy person overnight. Since then, he became a Falun Gong practitioner. When he met people, he delightedly exclaimed, "Falun Gong saved my life!" His family and co-workers witnessed the miracle of Falun Gong.

Zhao Jiyuan, who required himself to follow the principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance," was selected as a distinguished worker by the Dadong Police Department for two consecutive years. Mr. Zhao's family lived in a dirty part of town. He cleaned up the trash and public restroom every day. The people who passed by could hardly recognize the place as it had undergone a dramatic change. After Zhao Jiyuan was arrested, the place became dirty again. When the police station sent someone to do an investigation, his neighbor said, "A good person has been arrested; nobody else will clean up the trash." The neighbors all requested Mr. Zhao's release.

Arrested Because of Spreading the Truth, Sentenced to Seven Years by a Corrupt Judge

After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, Zhao Jiyuan went to Beijing twice to appeal for justice and clarify the truth about Falun Gong. However, he was illegally arrested. In December 1999 he was sent to the Longshan Labor Camp of Shenyang City, where the authorities tried to force him to renounce his belief. In June 2000, he was released and sent back home.

On February 27, 2001, several Falun Gong practitioners were arrested because of clarifying the truth. Shortly after, Zhao Jiyuan was also caught.

At first, the Shenyang Court sentenced Zhao Jiyuan to five years. The judge asked Mr. Zhao, "Appeal or not?" Zhao replied, "Appeal." Unexpectedly, the judge said, "If it's appeal, add two more years." Just like this, Zhao Jiyuan was sentenced to seven years by the corrupt "law executor," and was imprisoned in the Shenyang City Second Prison.

Painful Suffering, Ongoing Persecution at Shenyang Second Prison

At first, Zhao Jiyuan was detained in the 12th Ward of the prison. In October 2003, Shenyang Second Prison moved, and the 12 Ward was renamed the 20 Ward. Li Jianguo is the chief of police responsible for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Meng Qinggang is the deputy chief.

From August 24 until September 21 of 2002, Mr. Zhao Jiyuan was shut in the guard chamber. He had to wear handcuffs for ten days and foot shackles for seven days. He was also beaten by the criminal inmates. The guard chamber was less than four square meters and had no sunlight at all. Zhao Jiyuan was forced to sleep on the floor and eat meals with his hands. Each meal consisted of one steamed corn bun, a bucket of corn flour gruel, and several salted pickles. He was not allowed to brush his teeth, wash his face and hands, have a bath, or change his clothes. He had to stretch out both of his legs continuously for 16 hours on the ground. If he did not obey, he would be cursed and beaten by the prison guards and criminals, shocked with electric batons, and hung up with steel cables and tortured.

At two o'clock in the afternoon of June 16, 2006, Zhao Jiyuan was locked in the strict monitoring cell. At less than 2.5 meters square, it is a damp, gloomy room. Mr. Zhao was forced to wear a cotton padded jacket in the summer. The police instigated three criminal inmates to hold Zhao Jiyuan down and force him to put on prison clothes. Mr. Zhao refused to cooperate, as he was not a criminal and did not feel he should wear a prison uniform. The police shocked his right knee with an electric baton. When they tried to shock his left knee, the baton reversed its discharge; the police officer cried out in pain upon being shocked, dropped the baton, and ran away. Zhao Jiyuan was detained in the small cell for a week this time.

During this period, the wicked party sent someone to the prison for an official "visit and inspection" five times. Zhao Jiyuan shouted, "Falun Dafa is good," each time. The visitor lingered at the entrance but nobody asked about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in the prison.

In July 2006, Zhao Jiyuan and other Falun Gong practitioners went on a hunger strike to protest their persecution. Then he was transferred to the First Ward and detained there. No family members were allowed to visit.

Because the prison strictly blocks off the flow of news, there is no further information on Zhao Jiyuan's persecution at the moment. It is only known that on one "visitation day," the guards talked about Zhao Jiyuan, saying, "...this person was hung for 15 days without uttering a single word." Obviously, he frequently suffered from this torture.

Zhao Jiyuan has been illegally detained by the wicked party for six years. His wife has to make a living and look after the family members alone. Although Zhao Jiyuan's son graduated from university and has a job, as his father was imprisoned, he could not get married.

Ms. Jiang Xiuxiang from Shandong Province Suffered Corporal Torture and Psychiatric Abuse before Her Disappearance

Ms. Jiang Xiuxiang is a Falun Gong practitioner from Yuanchuan Village, Renhe Town, Rongcheng City, Shandong Province. She had the great fortune to obtain the Fa in 1996. She benefited physically and morally from Falun Gong  practice.

After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Ms. Jiang Xiuxiang went to Beijing to clarify the truth. On the way, she was arrested in Laiyang. In the police car, Ms. Jiang practiced the sitting meditation. Four policemen carried her by force to Nanshan Hotel in Renhe Town where the police kept her bound to a chair and had her watched around the clock in an attempt to force her to renounce Falun Gong in writing. Ms. Jiang went on a hunger strike as a non-violent means to protest the illegal arrest and incarceration. Meanwhile, the police drank and partied in town, making her pay all their expenses to the tune of around 800 yuan.

On April 30, 2000, Ms. Jiang made a second attempt to go to Beijing to clarify the truth about Falun Gong, but she was arrested in Yantai and taken to Rongcheng Detention Center. A policewoman named Xing Jianping is fierce and cruel when it comes to torturing Falun Gong practitioners. Xing allowed Ms. Jiang merely two hours of sleep each day. Xing had Ms. Jiang hung in the air from the ceiling beam by her wrists for over 10 hours at a time. In addition, Xing spread coarse sand over scorching hot concrete ground in the middle of the summer and had Ms. Jiang walk on her bare knees over the sand. Even when blisters appeared on Ms. Jiang's knees, Xing would not stop the cruel torture. In the end Ms. Jiang's knees were covered with blood and fluid from abraded blisters. Her pants were soaked in blood. She was unable to walk. Moreover, Xing Jianping shocked Ms. Jiang with an electric stun baton on her neck, breasts, and vagina, causing a horrid smell of burning flesh. Xing also denied Ms. Jiang water in the middle of the summer.

Ms. Jiang suffered this terrible torture for over 40 days. The police lied to her family that she would be released as long as they paid the police 10,000 yuan. Once the police collected the money, they put her into a mental hospital where she was subjected to psychiatric abuses, such as being injected and force-fed with unknown, mood-altering drugs. As soon as Ms. Jiang arrived, she was given two injections of psychiatric drugs right away. Then she was force-fed three pills containing unknown drugs twice a day. After a few days, Ms. Jiang showed signs of mental and physical damage from the psychiatric abuse. After a month of this treatment, Ms. Jiang became restless and peevish. Her tongue turned stiff and she was not able to eat. She vomited everything she ate. Finally, she foamed at the mouth and collapsed to the ground. Only then was she released.

After she returned home, the police often harassed her and ransacked her home at will. The police also threatened to arrest her again and send her to a forced brainwashing center. In 2002, Ms. Jiang decided that she had no other choice but to flee her home to avoid further persecution. No one knows her whereabouts to this day.

Ph.D Student Wang Weiyu Severely Tortured at Qianjin Prison in Beijing

Wang Weiyu is a Ph. D. student in the Department of Delicate Instruments and Mechanical Devices at Tsinghua University. His hometown is in Tai'an, Shandong Province. On August 12, 2002, he was illegally arrested by the National Security Team. In 2004, the Chaoyang District Court in Beijing gave him a severe sentence of eight years. When he appealed to the Second Intermediate People's Court in Beijing, the intermediate court did not open a session, but directly gave a written statement to affirm the original decision. Currently, Wang Weiyu is detained in the Qianjin Prison in Beijing. In March 2006, he was transferred to the 8th ward from the original 12th ward. The instructor of the 12th ward is Chen Jun, and the instructor of the 8th ward is Liang Kai. Qianjin Prison detains all the Beijing Falun Gong practitioners who were illegally sentenced, including Li Chang and Ji Liewu.

On either October 5 or 6, 2006, Wang Weiyu was hurt in the tendon of his right leg. It is said that a criminal kicked him and injured his right leg in a compulsory "recreational activity" in the prison. After the injury, Wang Weiyu's right leg immediately became swollen and congested, which persisted for a long time. His front foot sole could not touch the ground for three and a half months. However, the prison did not inform his relatives and also did not arrange any checkup or treatments until his family went to visit him. His family found him in bad shape and noticed the severe situation. After consulting an orthopedic specialist, they were told that Wang Weiyu's symptom was probably due to at least a partial break or a torn tendon and suggested that Wang Weiyu have surgery right away; otherwise, his leg would be disabled. Wang Weiyu's situation was very urgent.

Liang Kai, the instructor of the 8th ward knew Wang Weiyu was injured, but he still forced Wang to finish all of the work, do exercises, and stand in line. Wang's family asked to have the surgery done right away. They appealed to the prison administration bureau, and condemned Qianjin Prison's persecution system. The prison was afraid of taking the responsibility and stopped Wang Weiyu's daily, high-intensity labor, and other forced activities. At that time three months had passed since Wang Weiyu was injured. Even under such circumstances, the prison still did not do a solid effort in treatment. Wang Weiyu's father personally went to Chadian, Tianjin City, from Shandong, and asked the person in charge of the Qianjin Prison to solve the problem. The prison called the relevant policemen to have a so-called conversation with Wang's elderly father and seemed to make a great effort to deceive him. Actually, they just wanted to shift the responsibility. On such occasions, Liang Kai, the person directly in charge of this whole incident, and other prison officials, kept explaining that they did not know at that time and they did not know how serious it was, otherwise they would have sent him for an examination earlier, etc. However, another month had passed since Wang Weiyu's family discovered Wang's injured condition and reported it to the prison administration. Except for reporting to the higher authorities and saying, "Officials personally brought Wang Weiyu to the hospital for examination" the prison system only did a superficial checkup but did not allow any treatment for such a personal injury incident.

Since getting arrested by the national security team in August 2002, Wang Weiyu has been inhumanly tortured. He was detained in the Brainwashing Center at the Beijing Legal System Education Center for six months and twelve days. During that time, he was isolated in a single cell for a long time and monitored by guards and did not get any warm clothes. He endured the winter of 2002 by wearing just the shirt he was wearing when he was arrested in August. The long-term isolated detention and brainwashing made Wang's mental state very weak. At that time, even someone whispering near him would scare him. In the Beijing Legal System Education Center, Wang Weiyu was shocked over his whole body by multiple electric batons, including on sensitive parts such as the top of his head. The top of his head even blistered and peeled. Half a year later, he was detained in the Chaoyang District Detention Center. The criminals in the same cell still saw the black marks on his body due to the electric shocks. Now that he is detained in the Qianjin Prison, he still has bad headaches as a result of the torture.

In January 2006, in the 12th ward of the Qianjin Prison in Beijing, Falun Gong practitioners were reported and detained in small cells because they passed Master's articles and said so-called "sensitive words." Falun Gong practitioners all stood up to talk to the guards. Some practitioners clarified the truth and declared all of their oral and written statements not conforming to Falun Gong void, which really shocked the authorities. Chen Jun, the instructor, was forced to yield. The situation in the prison was improved. However, Chen Jun nursed a hatred and tried to find a chance to get revenge and restore the horrible atmosphere. On March 9, armed policemen were arranged in the prison hall and blocked all doors of the prison cells. They took away seven Falun Gong practitioners including Guan Zhisheng, Wang Weiyu, Wang Yi, Zhang Jian, Huang Jian, Qin Wei and Wu Jun. The prison also set up the 8th ward as the strictly monitoring group for isolating those Falun Gong practitioners who did not yield to their transformation efforts. The 8th ward only detains 8 Falun Gong practitioners (Lin Shusen who was sentenced later is also detained in the 8th ward.) The Falun Gong practitioners detained in the 8th ward were isolated in different classes. Sometimes 7 or 8 collaborators watched one practitioner.

Wang Weiyu was injured on the tendon of his right leg while many collaborators watched. Usually, those collaborators even recorded Wang Weiyu's every facial expression and reported it to Liang Kai. How dare they not report Wang Weiyu's injury to the instructor and the team leader? Therefore, the Qianjin Prison's excuse of "not knowing the situation" cannot be valid.

The Police Arrest Several Falun Gong Practitioners in Luohe City, Henan Province

On the morning of January 6, 2007, more than ten officials, including the Chief of the Industrial and Business Office on Minzhu Road of Luohe City in Henan Province, Zhang Mingshuan (male), the Deputy Chief, Xing Dalin (male), the Director of the Industrial and Business Bureau, Na Xin (male), the police from the political security section of the district police department, Wu Zibao (male) and Zhu Fengtian (male), broke into the home of practitioner Mr. Wan Xuezhi and took him away.
