  • Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Wen Yingxin from Shenyang City Persecuted to Death Within Nine Days of Being Arrested

On August 7, 2006, police officers from Xiaobei Police Station of Dadong District Police Bureau in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wen Yingxin from Shenyang City because of posting Falun Gong truth-clarification materials. She died at Shenyang 739 Hospital on August 16, within nine days of her arrest. Her body showed signs of injury. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities claimed that Ms. Wen died of kidney failure. This is highly questionable. Wen Yingxin's remains are presently held by police.

Shenyang City Falun Gong Practitioner Wen Yingxin

Ms. Wen Yingxin, 34 years old, was employed as an accountant by Shenyang Aerospace Xinguang Corporation. She graduated from the College of Commerce of Shenyang University with a degree in accounting. She began to practice Falun Gong in 1997.

About 3:00 p.m. on August 7, 2006, when Ms. Wen was posting Falun Gong truth-clarification materials in the Dabei District, she was reported by someone. Police officers from Xiaobei Police Station of Dadong District Police Bureau in Shenyang City arrested her. On August 8, Wen Yingxin was taken to Shenyang Detention Center.

Around 5:00 p.m. on August 16, staff from the Xiaobei Police Station (the "case handling unit") informed Ms. Wen's family that she was at Shenyang City 739 Hospital. When Wen Yingxin's parents and some of her relatives arrived at the 739 Hospital, they saw that Ms. Wen was in bed and breathing through an oxygen tube. Her electrocardiogram showed a straight line. She appeared to be unconscious, and could hardly breathe. Ms. Wen died at 10:00 p.m. that night. The police claimed that their emergency treatment lasted more than five hours (from 5:00 p.m. when they had notified her family to 10:00 p.m. when she died). Wen Yingxin's family said: "We know that this was a set-up." The police told her family, "Wen Yingxin died of kidney failure."

Ms. Wen's family questioned police officers, "Where did the wounds on Wen Yingxin's body come from?" The police officers stalled and then said that they resulted from her trying to escape. Police officers from Xiaobei Police Station said, "As soon as Wen was arrested, she destroyed her telephone book, and tried to escape a few times, but didn't succeed."

Before being illegally arrested, Wen Yingxin was very healthy. She weight over 130 lbs. How could a healthy person who weighed only 130 lbs, and was 34 years old develop kidney failure within 9 days? People thought that a possible explanation could have been that she did not take in any food for a long time, or in another words, she went on a hunger strike, which resulted in kidney failure. However, it took only 9 days from the time Ms. Wen was arrested to the time she died. Therefore, such a scenario was not logical. If Ms. Wen began a hunger strike as soon as she was arrested, she wouldn't have suffered kidney failure. Guards at the Shenyang City Detention Center brutally force-feed Falun Gong practitioners after they are four days on a hunger strike.

It is most likely that she was tortured into suffering kidney failure, similar to what happened to Falun Gong practitioner Wang Hong from Liaozhong County, Shenyang City in August 2001. Ms. Wang's head and feet were tied together at Longshan Forced Labor Camp for over 10 hours, and she was not allowed to go to the restroom. She suffered kidney failure, as diagnosed at the hospital. Wang Hong died on September 1, 2001.

Police officers from Xiaobei Police Station said, "Wen tried to escape a few times but didn't succeed." After she didn't succeed, one can only image how the police tortured her after each escape attempt. Even if Wen Yingxin indeed died of kidney failure, her kidney failure resulted from persecution. Within 9 days after Ms. Wen was illegally arrested, she was persecuted to death. The authorities from Shenyang City Detention Center, Dadong Police Bureau Xiaobei Police Station cannot escape responsibility.

At 10:00 p.m., on August 16, after Wen Yingxin died, people from the 739 Hospital asked her family to sign the "Death Notification." Her family refused. Then they asked Wen's family to sign the "Remains Keeping Documentation." They refused again. Currently, Ms. Wen's remains are being held by police. However, no one but the authorities knows where her remains are being kept. Ms. Wen's family traveled to Shenyang City Detention Center to demand justice, but in vain.

Below is a brief biography of Wen Yingxin:

Ms. Wen Yingxin was born on March 3, 1972. She graduated from the College of Commerce of Shenyang University with a degree in accounting and was an accountant for the Shenyang Aerospace Xinguang Group. In 1997, Ms. Wen began to practice Falun Gong. She benefited both physically and mentally. Wen Yingxin began to always think of others first, and became very kind and selfless. In July 1999, after the persecution of Falun Gong began, because she remained firm in her belief and clarified the truth about Falun Gong, she was cruelly persecuted.

In June 2002, due to clarifying the truth about Falun Gong, Wen Yingxin was illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor and detained at Shenyang Longshan Detention Center. At the end of 2002, she was transferred to Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp. Because she refused to give up her belief, Guard Shi Fengyou from Longshan Forced Labor Camp shocked her with electric batons, injuring her face and mouth.

In March 2003, Ms. Wen was taken back to Longshan Forced Labor Camp. Guard Tang Yubao shocked her head with an electric baton. She fell several times, which resulted in a large bump on the back of her head. The labor camp was involved in forcefully brainwashing people. Wen Yingxin was deprived of sleep. She was only allowed to sleep from 3:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. The minute she looked like she might fall asleep, the guards told her to walk, or she would be beaten. Wen Yingxing went on a hunger strike many times to protest the persecution. The guards shackled her limbs to the ground and force-fed her a concentrated salt solution. Her nose was injured and bled because of the rubber tube they put through her nose. Guard Shi Fengyou shouted: "Add more salt!" Ms. Wen lost consciousness and was then unable to walk. She was also forced to do hard labor at Longshan Forced Labor Camp. After guard Tang Yubao got drunk, he pulled her hair, slapped her face, kicked her legs and punched her. Tang beat Ms. Wen many times in this manner.

In August 2003, Wen Yingxin went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Over two months later, she was taken to Liaoning Province Prisoners' Hospital, where she was handcuffed to a bed, injected with drugs and forced-fed. She became incontinent, losing control of her bowels and bladder. She had blood in her bowel movements. Her liver and spleen were injured, and she was dying. The guards were afraid to take responsibility, so Ms. Wen's forced her mother to take her home in December 2003. After she got home, Ms. Wen persisted in practicing Falun Gong, and she miraculously recovered. Due to the fact that people from her local community management committee and police station often went to her home to harass her, Wen Yingxin was forced to become homeless and move from place to place.

In 2003 when Ms. Wen was illegally detained at the forced labor camp, her husband divorced her because of the CCP's long-term persecution and tremendous pressure. Her 7-year-old son thus lost his mother's care.

Ms. Wen's parents are over 60 years old. They were devastated when they were told that their daughter was persecuted to death. They've been crying ever since. Her mother became so ill that she is now bedridden.

The Brutal Persecution of Yang Shunfa, Gong Zhihui, Que Faxiu and Que Fazhi, Who Died as a Result of Torture

Mr. Yang Shunfa, 44, was a Falun Gong practitioner from the No. 4 Community, Diansuo Village, Panlian Town, Miyi County, Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to openly persecute Falun Gong and Falun Gong practitioners on July 20, 1999, Yang Shunfa was relentlessly persecuted.

In December 1999, Diansuo Village Secretary Fu Hongchun and Huang Xianyou from the Panlian Town government ransacked Yang Shunfa's home. They even pried open the ceiling to look for Mr. Yang's collection of Falun Gong books. They made a complete mess and left nothing unturned. They deceived his wife, Zhang Jiarong, into going to a brainwashing center and told Mr. Yang to bring her clothes to the center. Mr. Yang Shunfa was imprisoned as soon as he arrived. This was how they entrapped him at the brainwashing center.

Photo of Ms. Que Fazhi, taken before her death

Ms. Que Fazhi was another Falun Gong practitioner from Miyi County. She died as a result of torture on October 30, 2002. Around December 20, 1999, she was in detention. When she got up one night to practice the Falun Gong exercises, a guard nicknamed Li Laoer came downstairs during the Mahjong break and caught her. He told her to get out of the cell and started to curse her. Another guard, Chen Youjun, heard him and all the rest came downstairs to the cells. Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Que Faxiu, Mr. Yang Shunfa, and Mr. Gong Zhihui also heard the verbal insults and came out to see what was happening. When Chen Youjun saw them, he told them to come out and had them stand with Ms. Que Fazhi on the track field that belongs to the Miyi County government. They were forced to stand with their knees bent. Three young guards (nicknamed Li Laoer, Pu Jun and Xiao Liu) attacked each practitioner, one at a time. They kicked each one, placed a book blaspheming Teacher and Falun Gong on his or her head, and asked if he or she would read it. If the answer was no, they immediately started to beat and kick the practitioner. They punched their backs, kicked them, and punched their faces.

It is difficult to stand still with the knees bent. When the slanderous books slid off the practitioners' heads, the thugs would surround them and brutally beat them. They would ask each practitioner again, "Will you read the book?" All of them said, "No!" These thugs then started beating them again, starting with Mr. Yang Shunfa. Li Laoer kicked him to the ground and stepped on his back. He pulled Mr. Yang up only to kick him to the ground again. They tortured him like this repeatedly. Next, the five guards stood in two rows and had Mr. Yang stand in the center. They repeatedly kicked him back and forth like a soccer ball for about 30 minutes.

Then they went and got police nightsticks from the office and repeatedly beat the practitioners' legs and backs from 1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. After the beating, Chen Youjun had the practitioners stand still from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. Mr. Gong Zhihui's legs and back were injured. Mr. Yang Shunfa's back was so severely beaten that it turned purple and blue. Ms. Que Faxiu and Ms. Que Fazhi's backs and legs also turned blue and purple.

After three days, these practitioners still refused to write a guarantee statement not to practice Falun Gong, so Yan Jiqing summoned the four practitioners to his office. Along with six guards in his office, Yan Jiqing asked the practitioners if they would obey the police department's new Six Regulations [to ban Falun Gong]. All of the practitioners declared that they would not obey the regulations because the regulations were wrong. Yan Jiqing was furious and signaled the guards with his eyes. He told them to "work out as usual," which meant beating the practitioners as they had done three days before. The thugs had the practitioners go down one flight of stairs. Chen Youjun had Mr. Gong Zhihui and Mr. Yang Shunfa enter his office and summoned two thugs, Pu Jun and An Qiang. Then he stepped out, closed the door, and brushed his teeth while watching for the two thugs. Pu Jun and An Qiang forced the two practitioners to stand still facing a wall. Using police nightsticks, An Qiang beat Mr. Gong's back and legs while Pu Jun beat Mr. Yang's back and legs. After beating them for a while, Pu Jun and An Qiang had the practitioners stand with their backs against the wall and started beating their arms, thighs and shins.

Later, Chen Youjun was afraid that the thugs might actually beat the practitioners to death, so he entered the room and told them to stop. Next, they had the two practitioners brought back to their rooms and took the sisters, Ms. Que Faxiu and Ms. Que Fazhi, up to Chen Youjun's office. Pu Jun and An Qiang beat them in the same way. Ms. Que Faxiu was beaten unconscious.

It was not until December 31, 1999, that they released all the imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners. Mr. Yang Shunfa's family saw that his hips, legs, groin, and back were purple and blue with bruises.

In 2000, the police attempted to arrest Mr. Yang Shunfa again. He had no choice but to flee from home to avoid additional torture. The police offered a 30,000-yuan reward to encourage people to turn him in. On April 15, 2002, a man from Binggu Town reported Mr. Yang to the police when he was distributing truth-clarification materials. He was arrested and taken to the Political Security Division and then to a local detention center. Mr. Yang refused to tell the police who had given him the truth-clarification materials, so the police made him wear handcuffs and shackles for four straight weeks. A few days before he was transferred to Wumaping Prison, Mr. Yang's family went to visit him and saw that his front teeth had been knocked out. The police didn't notify his family until they had put Mr. Yang into Wumaping Prison. His family did not know about the transfer until they were told to pick up Yang Shunfa's clothes and quilt. His family went home and found the quilt full of bloodstains. They were overcome with grief.

Falun Gong Practitioner Liu Lanxiang Tortured to Death in 2001, Family Appeals for Justice

In April 2001, Ms. Liu Lanxiang from Wuwei City, Gansu Province was tortured to death at the Xiguoyuan Dentention Center in Lanzhou City. Her family is calling on all kind-hearted people to help them seek justice and bring the perpetrators to trial.

Falun Gong practitioner Liu Lanxiang Below, Liu Lanxiang's husband recounts the death of his wife, as the result of being ruthlessly tortured during her illegal detention.

Liu Lanxiang was born in March 1964. She was from Minqin County, Gansu Province and was a pharmacist at a traditional Chinese Medicine hospital. She began to practice Falun Gong in 1998, and became a steadfast practitioner who taught others enthusiastically.

After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, my wife and other practitioners from her area went to Beijing several times to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. As a result, she was detained by both Wuwei City and Minqin County Police Department. Each time, she refused to renounce Falun Gong or betray her fellow practitioners.

Once, when the police searched our home and found a copy of Zhuan Falun, she told them: "You cannot take this book with you. It is more valuable than my life!" She then rushed over to grab the book from them.

Another time, when Liu Lanxiang was imprisoned at the Wuwei Detention Center, the guards tried to force her to "renounce" Falun Gong. They incited drug addicts to savagely beat her. Throughout the entire beating and even after several of her ribs were broken, she did not scream once. As soon as Liu Lanxiang was able to sit up, she insisted on doing the Falun Gong exercises. Her unyielding spirit touched many people in the detention center. In the end, the detention center couldn't accomplish their goal of "transforming" her and had to unconditionally release her.

At home, the local police continuously harassed my wife because she refused to give up practicing Falun Gong. As a result, she could not lead a normal life and was forced to leave home to avoid further persecution.

On the evening of April 30, 2001, Liu Lanxiang was arrested when she and other Falun Gong practitioners were distributing truth-clarification materials. In order to obtain information from her about the source of the Falun Gong materials in Lanzhou and the surrounding areas, the police viciously tortured my wife. Still, she did give in to them or say anything. Frustrated and enraged, the police then hung her up and beat her until she died.

On April 20, our family received a notice to go to Qilihe District Police Department in Lanzhou City. We were told: "Liu Lanxiang and others were arrested on the evening of April 3 for distributing Falun Gong pamphlets, and detained at the Xiguoyuan Detention Center. Liu Lanxiang went on a hunger strike, fell into a coma and died. We have the record of the emergency diagnosis." The police then told us in a threatening tone to cooperate with them in handling the funeral arrangements quickly. When we saw Liu Lanxiang's body, we were heartbroken to see her in such a horrible state.

Both of her wrists were seriously injured. Her legs all the way to the tips of her toes were very stiff and straight. It was obvious that she was hung and beaten to death. Even after she died, she remained hanging. This evidence was clearly visible; yet how can they try to conceal it with lies and with a so-called proof from the hospital?" As Ms. Liu's husband I said: "Falun Gong practitioners are all good people. They are not against the government. The purpose of their distributing pamphlets is to expose those who have the ulterior motive to fabricate lies to cheat people. You arrested a good person, and in just a few days you ruthlessly tortured her to death. This is an unlawful act. I demand to preserve her remains and appeal."

However, everywhere I went I was followed. With the help of friends and relatives, I looked for places to appeal. For more than ten days I searched and couldn't find a place to appeal in such a large city as Lanzhou. Is this a country ruled by law? Heavens! Where is the law? I asked Falun Gong practitioners and kind people to help find the murderers at the Xiguoyuan Detention Center. I can't let these ruthless murderers break the law and get off free!

For several days I couldn't stay tranquil. I feel ashamed that I couldn't do anything for those murdered Falun Gong practitioners! I have written this to express the thoughts of practitioners' families and to appeal to all kind people to help stop this evil persecution of good, innocent Falun Gong practitioners.

Police from Cangxi County, Sichuan Province Arrest 18 Falun Gong Practitioners, Subject Several to Brutal Torture

The police in Cangxi County, Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province started to implement a new round of persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in February after discovering truth-clarifying materials and flyers in a few towns in Wenchang District, Cangxi County. They rented the second floor of the Cangxi County Medical Administration Bureau as their "headquarters" and assembled police from nearby towns. They deceived Falun Gong practitioners into entering their headquarters and then detained them there. They beat the practitioners brutally, and deprived them of sleep for many consecutive days.

From February to May 2006, the police in Cangxi County, Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province illegally arrested eighteen Falun Gong practitioners. The major truth clarification materials production sites in the area were damaged, and computers and other equipment was confiscated. Six practitioners were illegally sentenced. Several practitioners were released after nearly ten thousand yuan was extorted from each one. Police officer Hou Xiangyu and Yang Cong from the National Security Team claimed: "There is nothing we cannot do to persecute practitioners." Right now the authorities use two ways to extort money from the practitioners. The first is to impose a large fine. The second is to detain practitioners for a long time, regardless of whether they have money or not. This gives the police leverage to get the money in the end.

Among the six Falun Gong practitioners sentenced, Kou Zhixiu, Huang Qiong, He Xiuzhen and Luo Changhua are imprisoned at the Nanmu Temple Prison in Zizhong County. Kou Zhixiu and Luo Changhua were sentenced for one year and nine months. Huang Qiong was sentenced to one year and three months. He Xiuzhen was sentenced to two years and He Xuequan to one year and three months. The others' situations are unknown.

Ms. He Xiuzhen is about 65 years old. One afternoon in February, policemen broke into her home. They did not show any search warrant before searching her home. They did not find anything except a piece of truth-clarifying material on her person. Even so, they still arrested her and sent her to their headquarters for brutal persecution. He Xiuzhen refused to sign any "guarantee statement." After Ms. He was detained in the detention center for a month, the police manufactured "proof" saying that they found a large amount of flyers in her home and that she handed out a lot of truth-clarifying materials. Because of this, five months after she was released from the Nanmu Temple Prison the second time, He Xiuzhen was sentenced to two years' imprisonment.

Ms. Deng Shaoqiong is 54 years old. In order to persecute her more severely, the police used the evidence that in 2005 other practitioners gave her 3,000 yuan to make truth-clarifying materials. They sentenced her to one-and-a-half years in prison.

Ms. Yang Shixuan is 40 years old. On the morning of March 20, 2006, several police officers went to her shop. They searched her shop thoroughly and did not find anything they wanted. But they still arrested Yang Shixuan and took her to their headquarters to persecute her. Several police officers beat and kicked her simultaneously. They trampled on her bare feet with their leather shoes, kicked her legs, pulled her hair and struck her ears. Ms. Yang was bruised all over. Later that evening, several police officers lifted her up and then let her fall down to the ground. At the same time, they held their knees up against her back. Her vertebrae were injured badly and she fainted from pain. But the police still did not let Ms. Yang go. They pushed her onto a bed, held her hands, feet and head, and pinched her neck. Moreover, they also tried to pour tea into her nose. After they failed, they kicked her to the ground and forced her to kneel down on a stool. The police did not allow Yang Shixuan to sleep or go to the restroom for a few days. Her body was badly injured and swollen. She could not sit or squat. Her urine contained blood. Even so, the police still tried to force her to acknowledge that she handed out truth-clarifying materials.

The Persecution I Experienced in Yang'ai Forced Labor Camp

In August, 2001, I was detained for what turned out to be four years at Yang'ai Forced Labor Camp in Guizhou City, for distributing truth clarifying materials.

I was held in the gem factory of the Seventh Branch of the Yang'ai Camp. In the beginning, I worked more than twelve hours every day wearing a prison uniform. Later, I realized that clarifying the truth was a righteous deed, and I refused to wear the uniform since I had not done anything wrong. The warden then ordered the criminal inmates to write "forced labor" on my clothing. I refused to wear that, too.

Once, I was reported by the inmates for reading Zhuan Falun. The guards asked me what I was reading, but I did not answer. The warden searched my body, finding nothing. They found my book hidden in my bed and confiscated it. I went to the warden asking for my book, but the inmates dragged me back.

The next day, I went to the warden again asking for my book. She said that it was in the hands of the higher authorities. I told her that she would meet with karmic retribution for doing that. I clarified the truth to the inmates. I told them, "Falun Gong teaches us to follow the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance and to be good people. What you see on TV is all lies." Afterwards, whenever they saw slanderous programs on TV about Falun Gong, the inmates said that those were all lies.

I did the exercises at the gem factory. The warden told me to stop. I said that I was a practitioner and had to do the exercises. She said that this was a prison. I told her that I had to do the exercises no matter where I was. In my heart, I firmly believe in Teacher and Falun Gong, therefore, I listen to Teacher only. I had to work more than twelve hours a day gathering tea leaves up on the mountain. Some practitioners who refused to go to the mountain were handcuffed, some had their mouths stuffed with hand towels and were beaten by inmates. Practitioners were ordered to watch slanderous TV programs, do military marching and write "reports." If they refused to watch TV and write reports, they were handcuffed.

Once I had symptoms of illness and they asked me to eat something. I told them that I was not hungry, and would eat only if I was hungry. They told me they would send me to the hospital if I refused to eat. They sent me to the hospital against my will and assigned four people to watch me. After a few days of blood tests, five of us were locked in a small room. We were not allowed to go out except to eat and use the restroom. Other patients could walk about in the hallway.

I was transferred to the Eighth Branch in 2005. For every practitioner there were two inmates assigned to monitor them closely. The group of three stayed in a single room with the windows tightly shut. Practitioners were watched around the clock. We were not allowed to leave the room, even for meals.

About two weeks before they released me, the authorities tried to get me to write a guarantee statement. I refused, telling them that I firmly believe in Teacher and Falun Gong, and that no one could change my mind.

How the Baoding Forced Labor Camp Brutally Persecutes Falun Gong Practitioners

Since 1999, when the Chinese Communist Party started to persecute Falun Gong, Baoding Forced Labor Camp in Hebei Province has been brutally torturing Falun Gong practitioners. The guards in this labor camp have used barbaric physical means to torture those practitioners who are steadfast in their belief in Falun Gong. The torture methods they have used are very cruel. These methods include: electric shocks, forcing practitioners to face the wall for a long period of time, sleep deprivation, brutal beating while the practitioners are hung up, locking practitioners up alone, forcing them to sit on the edge of stools, excessive hard labor, deception and brainwashing. Every day, all of the practitioners who are illegally detained suffer from extremely painful physical and mental torture.

In April 2006, Baoding Forced Labor Camp intensified its persecution against those practitioners who refused to be "transformed." The practitioners were pressured to write the four statements (similar to the three statements). If they refused, they were forced to stand for a long period of time and were not allowed to sleep for 24 hours. The labor camp also transferred in some former practitioners who had enlightened along evil paths to help persecute practitioners.

During the period of intensified persecution, Baoding Forced Labor Camp did not allow practitioners to sleep, but rather forced them to stand for a long period of time, or to squat down while holding their hands. They also handcuffed practitioners and shocked them with electric batons. The guards used criminal inmates, including Liu Wenping, Zang Wantong, and Liu Huifang, to monitor the practitioners who refused to be "transformed." The head of the team that is responsible for "transforming" the practitioners instigated the inmates to beat practitioners. They squeezed and pinched practitioner Zhang Huiling from Xushui, whose body then turned blue and purple. The chief of police used electric batons to beat practitioners, and as a result, their bodies were covered in wounds and burns. Some administrators from the labor camp asked the inmate Liu Wenping, "Does the head of the 'intensified persecution' team beat up the practitioners? Does he tie the practitioners to a Big Board? Does he treat those practitioners who refused to be 'transformed' nicely?" Liu did not answer, in order to hide their crimes.

At about 4:00 a.m. on June 14, guard Bai Jie tied practitioner Zhang Xiaoli up onto a bed frame. After that, Bai shocked Zhang Xiaoli with electric batons. Desperate screams woke up people throughout the labor camp. Zhang Xiaoli has suffered from a nervous breakdown as a result of the torture.

Ms. Zhao Yuehong, a Falun Gong practitioner from Anguo, has been detained in the labor camp for more than two years now. Because she remained steadfast in Falun Gong and refused to be "transformed," she was frequently forced to stand for a long period of time, and to eat and live with the criminal inmates. The team head instigated the inmates to monitor her. She was always beaten and verbally abused.

The guards at the labor camp forced the practitioners to start working right after breakfast, and then to do extra work in the evenings. The practitioners were even forced to work on weekends. The labor camp withheld the document from the province which requires the labor camp to reduce the terms of the practitioners. They instead extended the period of imprisonment for practitioners. They would not release the practitioners when their terms were due. They imprison Falun Gong practitioners arbitrarily.

Practitioner Mr. Zhang Weijin is from the Culture Center of Changli County in Qinhuangdao City. He refused to give up practicing Falun Gong, and suffered torture many times. Guards Zhang Zhanqiang, Liu Qingyong, and Wang Lei threw Zhang Weijin onto the ground and used electric batons to shock his legs, abdomen, back and shoulders. They randomly poked their electric batons onto all parts of Zhang Weijin's body. The areas that were shocked became blue and purple. Once they became tired, the guards instigated the inmates to continue shocking Zhang Weijin. Zhang Weijin was bruised all over and his legs were all swollen. He was unable to walk and could not take care of himself.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chang Lizhong works in a hospital in Qinhuangdao City. He remained steadfast in his belief in Falun Gong, and refused to write the five statements renouncing Falun Gong. To protest the illegal persecution, Mr. Chang went on a hunger strike for over 20 days. The guards Zhang Zhanqiang and Liu Qingyong used high-voltage electric batons to shock the insides of his legs and his arms. As a result, Mr. Chang was bruised all over his body. The guards then handcuffed Mr. Chang onto a bed board and forced him to stay awake for several days in a row. They also instigated former practitioners who had enlightened along an evil path to brainwash Mr. Chang. They poured cold water on him as soon as he closed his eyes.

Falun Gong practitioners from Baoding District, Wang Chunde, and Yang Shengli, were both brutally beaten, shocked with electric batons, made to stay awake for a long period of time, and had cold water poured on them just because they refused to renounce Falun Gong. Guard Zhang Zhiqiang also used clubs to hit Wang Chunde's calf bones, severely injuring Mr. Wang's legs. Consequently, Wang Chunde was disabled, but Zhang Zhiqiang still forced him to stand facing the wall, and to sit on the edge of a stool.

Some practitioners requested to have the four statements or five statements back after they realized that writing them was wrong. They also publicly claimed that the statements were void. The guards then tortured the practitioners with electric batons and extended their imprisonment terms. The guards also forced the practitioners to write criticism statements every two weeks, to "control" the practitioners' thoughts.

Baoding Forced Labor Camp lied to the authorities who sent people to come and investigate. At the entrance of the stairway of Group 2, there is a clearly-marked list of the six things that are banned, which includes no physical punishment, no use of electric batons, etc. However, severe physical punishment occurs there daily. Whenever someone comes to investigate, the labor camp hides the practitioners who are steadfast and who are on hunger strikes. They arrange certain people to go talk with the investigation team, but those people are not real Falun Gong practitioners. Because many people's minds have been poisoned by the Chinese Communist Party, some investigators simply pretend to not see anything. They do not do anything to stop the abuses taking place.
