  • In Critical Condition from Torture and Abuse: Mr. Liu Xueming in Zigong Prison, Sichuan Province

Mr. Li Xueming, Falun Gong practitioner from Jinxing Town, Xinjin County of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, was arrested at his home in September 2002 by police from the 1st branch of Xinjin Police Station, Jinxing Police, and Jinxing County CCP officials. On June 5, 2003, Mr. Liu was illegally sentenced to 7 years by a judge in Xinjin County CCP court. He was detained at Zigong Prison on July 24, 2003 where he was cruelly persecuted. Mr. Li's health condition is precarious because of the mistreatment he endured. The formerly very healthy Mr. Liis currently detained at 2nd hospital of Leshan Wumaping Prison. More details follow:

Mr. Li lives in Qilong Village (originally Phoenix Village), Jinxing Town, Xinjin County, Chengdu City. All three family members who live at his home practice Falun Gong. During the seven years of persecution, Mr. Liu's personal property was confiscated more than 10 times. His wife and daughter became homeless to escape the persecution. All their family belongings were confiscated. Anything of value was stolen or sold, and smaller things were destroyed. Even the mosquito net hanging over the bed was cut to pieces.

Zigong Prison was awarded "Civilized Prison" by prison control in Sichuan. The label deceives many people who don't know the truth. This prison is very much the same as other CCP prisons and forced labor camps. They follow closely Jiang Zemin's cohorts and use all in their power to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. They try to change peoples beliefs through violence. When Falun Gong Practitioners arrive at Zigong Prison, they are treated rather well, which is just to gain the practitioner's trust. Then they try to cajole practitioners so they would "transform" and give up their beliefs. If the practitioners refuse to give up their beliefs, the guards drop their hypocritical behavior and show their real intent. They even use torture to facilitate their brainwashing.

When Liu Xueming had just been detained at the Zigong Prison, chief guard Yang Jianchun often came to see Mr. Liu for a "chat," ask about Liu's family, and pretend that they "cared" for him. During several years of persecution, most Falun Gong practitioners suffered persecution in some form by the local government and police. Yang Jianchun first feigned "sympathy" because of the unfair treatment Mr. Liu suffered before this detention. He asked Mr. Liu to write everything down. Then he said that he would send it to local governors to verify the truth and solve the problem. So Mr. Liu Xueming wrote down what happened in June 2000. He had been detained by Wujin Police Station of Xinjin County because he was practicing Falun Gong exercises outside and all his family's property was confiscated by Xinjin Puxing police and Jinxing local officials. He listed the lost properties in detail, amounting to about 6,500 yuan. Then, he gave the list to Chief Chen of the Education Branch.

On December 10, 2003, Liu Yuanhang, the vice director of Zigong Prison, called Mr. Liu Xueming to his office and told Mr. Liu they had verified what he wrote and that they know that it is the truth. He insinuated that they would "solve the problem through dialog." Guard Yang Jianchun promised that he would help resolve the problem. Yet, he tried his best to "transform" Liu Xueming. Mr. Liu Xueming never gave up his belief in Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, the essential principles of Falun Gong. Eventually, Yang Jianchun revealed his true character. When Mr. Liu ask him about his promise, Yang simply denied everything. He told Mr. Liu the prison would not help him and he was on his own after he was released from prison. Mr. Liu asked to have his written report back as well as the investigative report, but was denied.

Unsuccessful Brainwashing Results in Cruel Torture to Achieve "Transformation"

Starting in April 2005, daily after 8:00 a.m., guards Xiao Quanwen (Education Branch), Yang Jianchun, and. six other guards tried to "transform" him. They harassed, threatened, and beat Mr. Liu, until their morning shift was over at noon. Then, at 2:00 p.m. they started again. Eleven days later, on April 19th, guard Xiao Quanwen told Mr. Liu Xueming that beginning that day he would persecute him. He beat Mr Liu with an electric shock baton.

Beginning April 19, guards forced Liu Xueming to stand in military style and would not let him sit down even during lunch and supper. Mr. Liu was only allowed to return to his cell after 9:30 p.m. Then, he was forced to write a report and not allowed to go to sleep until after 10:00 p.m. This torture lasted until May 8. Mr. Liu's feet became more and more swollen. Now, the mental torture began. Mr. Liu was forced to study "Education of Prisoners" and was asked to write reports. Mr. Liu used the reports to clarify the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong.

This treatment lasted until July 13, 2005, when Mr. Liu was transferred to the 4th Ward at Zigong Prison.

Liu Jianxing, the chief guard of the 4th Ward put Mr. Liu Xueming into "training" with new prisoners. At the beginning of August, An Quan, vice director of the Education Branch began another round of brainwashing. They use the same method as before, first the so-called "soft" method and then the hard method. At the beginning, he used family visits as "bait" and asked if Mr. Liu would like to see his family. When the answer was yes, Mr. Liu was asked to write a report about his thoughts. Mr. Liu said in the report: "Yes I would like to see my family members. But I would not agree to any additional conditions, especially not giving up Falun Gong." An Quan realized that Mr. Liu would not "transform", so he tortured Mr. Liu with electric shock batons. He also he asked guard Xiao Quan to lock Mr. Liu to the torture bed with handcuffs.

During the first night when Mr. Liu was locked on the bed, it rained hard and the roof leaked. The entire bed was soaked in water. Mr. Liu was locked and tortured on that bed for 26 days. During the hot days of August, he was not allowed to take a bath or even wash his face. He was only released from this torture when he began to vomit everything he had eaten and had lost more than 10 kg.

In December 2005, Mr Liu Xueming was transferred to Wumaping Prison in Leshan Muchuan County in Sichuan. The persecution continued. He is now in critical condition and still illegally detained in the 2nd hospital of the prison.

The Brutal Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Jiangsu Province (Part 3)

    Inhuman Torture at Mental Hospitals

To break down Falun Gong practitioner’s determination, 610 Office agents in Jiangsu Province have put many normal practitioners into mental hospitals, where they are inhumanly tortured. For example, in Nanjing City several dozens of Falun Gong practitioners, including Mr. Ding Jianhua, Ms. Han Jizhen, Ms. Duan Xiangdi, Mr. Wu Shunzhen, Ms. Shen Lijuan, Mr. Li Anning, Mr. Li Qun, Mr. Kuang Li, Ms. Feng Miaohua, and many more, have been put into mental hospitals. Some have been imprisoned there repeatedly. The longest term is about one year.

    1. Nanjing Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Han Jizhen Savagely Tortured at the Nanjing Mental Hospital

The following is a description of the torture that Ms. Han Jizhen experienced at the Nanjing Mental Hospital. It was written by her son, Mr. Wang Yusheng, who is also a Falun Gong practitioner, but lives in the United States.

"My mother started practicing Falun Gong in the first half of 1998. Within a few months, she experienced great benefits physically, and the women's disease that had plagued her for several years was cured. She lived by the principles of Truthfulness, Forbearance, Benevolence. She became much kinder and friendlier to others.

Jiang Zemin’s group started suppressing and persecuting Falun Gong on July 20, 1999. My mother went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on December 23, 1999. She knew whoever went to the Appeals Office would be arrested, so she went to Tiananmen Square instead. A policeman there asked her, "Do you practice Falun Gong?" She answered, "Yes!" He arrested her and put her into a police car. A policeman got into the car and started to slap her in the face. He slapped her until he was tired of it.

When the police found my mother’s home address on her identification card they took her back home to Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province and forcibly put her into the Nanjing Mental Hospital. At first the hospital refused to accept her because the doctors could not see any mental problems. But the police forced them to take her. The doctors told my family, 'She was put into the hospital not for being mentally ill, but for practicing Falun Gong!'

I was very shocked when I heard that my mother was in a mental hospital. I told this to my colleagues and my boss. They all found it hard to believe. They said, 'This is the 21st century. How can this happen?'

So I took time off work and flew to Shanghai. The next day I arrived at the Nanjing Mental Hospital and visited my mother. She told me, 'I am forced to take medicine orally or by injection. If I refuse, they will tie me up and force-feed me. These medicines make my body sore. I feel discomfort no matter what I do, whether I sit, stand or lay down. I have lost the energy to do anything, and I feel dizzy and upset, and I cannot keep my thoughts focused.' When she talked, I noticed that she spoke and moved slowly, and she had difficulty speaking clearly. She was slow in responding and looked like a mental patient.

During our conversation, a nurse shouted outside the door. My mother said to me nervously, 'They are going to give me medicine again!' Then a young nurse stepped in, holding a cup with water and medicine. While she was administering the medicine, she said to my mother, 'Do you still want to practice Falun Gong? Don’t practice any more.' I felt great pain watching this.

I went to see her regular doctor. I said, 'I am Ms. Han Jizhen’s son, and I came from the United States. I want to know her situation.' She told me, 'In her current situation she can go home any time as long as the police agree.' I then asked her why my mother was given medicine. She said, 'We have no choice. The police sent her here so we have to give her medicine. We will be in big trouble if she goes to appeal for Falun Gong again.'

On the requests of my family, my mother was released from the hospital a few days before the Chinese New Year. But the police went to her home the next day and asked her to write a statement to promise that she would never go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Otherwise, they would take her back to the mental hospital. Under this huge pressure, my mother wrote the statement against her will. But the next day the police came back again. They said, 'The statement that you wrote is not enough. You must write another statement promising that you will never practice Falun Gong. Otherwise, we will take you back to the mental hospital.' My mother replied, 'How can I promise that? I experienced great benefits both physically and mentally by practicing Falun Gong. How can I stop doing such a good thing?' The police said, 'Then you still have a mental problem. It has not been cured. You need more treatment.' They took her back to the mental hospital for two more months.

At that time, my father had cancer and had just had an operation. He needed my mother’s care. But since the police put my mother in the mental hospital, my mother was not able to care for him, but rather needed him to care for her, such as bring meals for her every day. Their lives were totally ruined!

At the end of 2000, I invited my parents to visit me in the United States. They got visas and were ready to take their flight. However, the customs agents at the Shanghai airport stopped her because they found her name on the "black list." The police knew that their crimes would be exposed to the public if my mother left China."

    - Statement by Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Wang Yongsheng in the United States

    December 9, 2002

    2. Falun Gong Practitioners from Suining County, Xuzhou City are Tortured in Mental Hospitals

We are Falun Gong practitioners in Xuzhou City, Suining County, Jiangsu Province. The police put three of us in mental hospitals against our wills for three months in 2000. During that time, we were tied to beds, forcibly injected and force-fed medicine. The medical staff there injected large quantities of unknown drugs into our bodies that caused us to immediately loose consciousness. Right after the injections, while the drugs were active, we experienced such severe pain that we would roll on the floor, yell and slam our bodies against the wall. When we regained consciousness, we asked them, "Why do you inject and force-feed us, though we do not have any mental problems?" They said, "We have to follow orders from the top. We don’t want to treat you like this, but we will lose our jobs if we don’t do so." They also told us, "These medicines will not kill you, but they will make you suffer. If you stop practicing Falun Gong, we will stop giving you the medicine. But it can not be stopped on the spot. We need to gradually reduce the quantity. So you should not run away from the hospital. Otherwise, you will become insane or die, and other people will think you are mentally sick and take you back to the hospital." We are women, but the mental hospital separated us and put us among the male patients. One day, a practitioner sat in the lotus position on a chair. The hospital president went over to her and said, "You are still doing the exercise? We will increase the quantity of your medicine so that you will beg us to let you die. Let's see whether you will still want to practice!"

Three months later, we were sent to the Judong City Women’s Forced Labor Camp. Since the medicine was stopped right away, we had terrible reactions. One practitioner kept rolling on the ground and running around. Two people were not able to restrain her. She was shaking all the time, her head drooped down and her eyes were dull. She yelled out often and could not sleep. When the pain was too severe, she would bang her head and body against the wall. Another practitioner suffered severe cramps, writhing in pain on the floor, unable to stand or walk. Others had to carry her in and out of the cell. At night she was filled with anxiety and would vomit blood. All of these reactions tortured us for fifty days. The forced labor camp once took a practitioner to a hospital in Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province for a mental diagnosis. The results reported, "Her brain nerves are functioning normally. Her abnormal behavior is the result of an intake of a large quantity of strong medication."

    3. Changzhou City Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Chen Zhong Was Put into a Mental Hospital for Torture

Mr. Robin Munro is a senior researcher at the School of Law and China Study Center, the School of Oriental and African Studies, and the University of London. In his book, entitled "Judicial Psychiatry in China and Its Political Abuses," he cited real cases of the psychiatric torture of Falun Gong practitioners by Chinese communist party. His book includes a case in Jiangsu Province, Changzhou City. The following is a summary of the case:

On the afternoon of July 25, 2002, Changzhou City Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen Zhong was "invited" by the police and officials from the Bureau of Civil Affairs for questioning. Without any legal justification, he was taken to the Changzhou City Number 102 Hospital Mental Disease Treatment Center for examination. They told him openly, "If you continue practicing Falun Gong, even though you are not insane, we can make you insane." However, Mr. Chen Zhong did not yield.

On the afternoon of September 28, 2002, under the pretext of asking him some questions, the police took Mr. Cheng Zhong to the Wujin County Third People’s Mental Hospital against his will. He was given medication for those who have mental problems. Mr. Chen Zhong refused to take the medicine. The police electrically shocked him five times to force him to take it. He was tortured there for more than ten days.

In a tape recording, Mr. Chen Zhong said, "I felt very cold because I wore only one T-shirt. My family did not know where I was. I did not have any extra clothes and was not allowed to shave. This hospital claims it is a "humanitarian hospital," but actually it imprisoned many people who were appealing against unfair treatment. It was even worse than a detention center because its mental and physical torture methods are more vicious. I am a Falun Gong practitioner, and a good citizen that never broke any laws. I live by the principles of ‘Truthfulness, Benevolence, Forbearance’ which is beneficial to our society and government. Why was I treated this way?"

    Savage Abuse in Jail

During the Chinese New Year of 2003, United States' citizen, Falun Gong practitioner Dr. Li Xiangchun, also known as Charles Lee, who was born in Jiangsu Province Yancheng City, went to visit his parents in China. He was illegally arrested by the Chinese police at the Guangzhou Airport. After being illegally imprisoned for over fifty days, Dr. Li Xiangchun was sentenced to three years in jail by a Chinese court under cooked up charges on March 21, 2003. He was imprisoned in Nanjing Prison.

Dr. Li started a hunger strike to protest the unjust treatment on May 27, 2003. He was abused and force-fed at the Nanjing Prison hospital starting Saturday, May 31.

After hearing of his hunger strike, a U.S. consulate officer drove to the Nanjing Prison on Monday, June 2. He requested to meet with Dr. Li Xiangchun to check on his safety and health, but the prison turned down his request. After repeated requests, the Nanjing Prison allowed him to talk to Dr. Li Xiangchun over the phone. Dr. Li told him that he had been abused and force-fed, which caused him great pain.

Dr. Li Xiangchun’s fiancé, Miss Fu Yongqing, immediately called the Nanjing Prison after hearing this news. Warden Shun, who talked to her over the phone before, said cruelly, "Don’t keep bothering us." To avoid further questions, he said, "You don’t sound like his fiancé." Before, he had told Miss Fu Yongqing, "You tell Dr. Li Xiangchun to be honest and cooperate with us, then we might consider releasing him after two years. Otherwise, he has to stay here for the full three-year term."

The U.S. consulate officer said that from June 27, 2003, Dr. Li Xiangchun had been forced to undergo five brainwashing sessions. Every time he was forced to listen to two hours of anti-Falun Gong propaganda. Dr. Li refused to go to a brainwashing session on July 8. The wardens ordered a group of inmates to beat him, and then they forcibly dragged him downstairs and carried him to the brainwashing class. He was also abused when they dragged him to the brainwashing class the next day. This torture left at least 29 scars on his body, and many of them were large. Dr. Li Xiangchun started another hunger strike to protest this abuse.

During this time, Dr. Li Xiangchun sent six letters to the U.S. Consulate officer, but they never reached the destination. Because he did not receive his weekly letter, the consulate officer called Dr. Li directly and learned that his right to practice the Falun Gong exercises and read the Falun Gong books were deprived and he was forced to go to brainwashing classes. Also, the number of people in Dr. Li Xiangchun’s cell had been increased from four to ten. The six extra inmates were sent to monitor him around the clock so that he could not practice. One inmate, who had been given a death sentence for selling drugs, once threatened to kill Dr. Li.

The U.S. Consulate officer finally received eight pages of the ninety-four pages Dr. Li sent him; the remaining pages were blocked by the Chinese government. Dr. Li Xiangchun mentioned in his writings that he had been savagely beaten when he was arrested in January 2003. He was interrogated continuously for three days and three nights and not allowed to sleep. When he was sent to the Nanjing Prison, he "was handcuffed for a long time" and forced to watch brainwashing videos that defamed Falun Gong.

For the past seven years, under the control of the Jiangsu Province "610 Office," local court systems in Jiangsu Province actively followed Jiang Zemin’s group and the Chinese CCP’s evil policies to persecute Falun Gong. They openly violate laws and human rights by holding illegal trials of Falun Gong practitioners. The trial of Taichang City Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Qin Yanqiu by the Taichang City Court is an example.

Judge Liu Liangkai: "If you die, that’s nothing to us."

Taichang City Court held an illegal trial for local Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Qin Yanqiu on November 7, 2005. She was tried just because she had two copies of "Minghui Weekly" magazine, two copies of Minghui Weekly newspaper, and five cards that had "Falun Dafa is Good" printed on them. Judge Liu Liangkai refused to let her hire an attorney, and made up excuses to force her husband and son to leave the court during the trial. When Liu Liangkai asked Ms. Qin Yanqiu whether she had any final words, Ms. Qin Yanqiu started to say, "Falun Dafa is righteous." But Liu Liangqiu cut her off saying, "Shut up." Ms. Qin Yanqiu said, "I did not commit any crime. You are illegally trying me. I will continue my hunger strike to protest. If I die you are all criminals." Judge Liu Liangkai said, "If you die, that’s nothing to us."

    The Court Shamelessly Lied

After Ms. Qin Yanqiu was illegally tried and sentenced by the Taichang City Court, her family requested the written judgment many times. The primary correspondent at the court first said that it was mailed to her work unit, Jianxiong Institute in Taichang City. They waited many days, but still received nothing. Then they asked for it again, but did not get anywhere. Later, her family told the correspondent that they needed it to go to Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province to appeal. The court then presented the written judgment and claimed, "The letter to the work unit was returned, and that’s why it took such a long time to give you this." Jianxiong Institute was only a few blocks away from the Taichang City Court.

The trial of Ms. Qin Yanqiu was open to the public. Many people attended. Because Ms. Qin Yanqiu refuted the fabricated charges against her in court, the corrupt judge thought she had a bad attitude and severely sentenced her. The written judgment said: "She admitted guilt to all charges." They lied openly and shamelessly.

    (To be continued)

Brutality at Suihua Labor Camp in Heilongjiang Province

In 2004, An Senbiao, a Falun Gong practitioner from Daqing, refused to be "transformed" at Suihua Labor Camp. He protested the persecution by hunger striking for six months. During the hunger strike he suffered all kinds of brutal tortures. He was hand-cuffed to a death bed for a prolonged period of time, force-fed through the nose and tortured continuously by four collaborators (Li Wanlong, Han Fujiang, Ma Tao, Wang Guoxiao), who forced him to drink salt water and burned his mouth with boiling water. The collaborators also wrapped up An Senbiao's private parts with cayenne husks, making them swell so much that he could not urinate. In order to prevent An Senbiao from crying out they sealed his mouth.

Once, when collaborator Li Wanlong was torturing An Senbiao, collaborator Han Fujian became afraid they would kill him. Li Wanlong said not to worry. He tortured An Senbiao until he was near-death. The labor camp was afraid of bearing the responsibility if he died; so they sent An Senbiao to a hospital. It was heard that they sent him back to his hometown. Li Wanlong was awarded by the labor camp for torturing Falun Gong practitioners: he was given a 15-day sentence reduction.

During the last seven years, Suihua Labor Camp has continuously tortured Falun Gong practitioners. The following exposes some perpetrators at Suihua Labor Camp, and their crimes, all of which I personally witnessed or experienced.

In March of 2006, the Heilongjiang Labor Education Department collected all the Falun Gong practitioners who were detained in Mudanjiang Labor Camp, Qiqihar Labor Camp, Daqing Labor Camp and Hegang Labor Camp, and transfered them to Suihua Labor Camp to "transform" them. The second unit in Suihua Labor Camp is comprised of Falun Gong practitioners. Its name is Education "Transformation" Unit, and it is comprised of two teams. About sixty of the practitioners who were transferred from the four labor camps were detained in these two teams. Everyone had to pass a "brainwashing test" upon entry.

The policemen psychologically tortured Falun Gong practitioners. Each practitioner was monitored by the collaborators. Practitioners had to report to the collaborators when going to the restroom, washing, and/or drinking water. They were not allowed to speak to one another, talk about Falun Gong, or ask about each other's family addresses or names. The collaborators are allowed to beat Falun Gong practitioners. The labor camp does not punish collaborators for beating Falun Gong practitioners. Instead, the labor camp rewards the collaborators.

Once, Falun Gong practitioner Lian Tao didn't report when he went to get a drink of water, because the policeman was not there. As a result, Lian Tao was beaten by the collaborators. He was beaten again when a collaborator reported on him for speaking while in the bedchamber. The policeman who received the report, and the warden, Chen Xinlong, took Lian Tao to their office. They beat and shocked Lian Tao with electric batons, severely scarring Lian Tao's hands and face. They also added three months to Lian Tao's labor camp sentence. However, the collaborator who beat Lian Tao was not punished.

In April of 2006, Cao Jingdong, a Daqing Falun Gong practitioner, refused to be "transformed" on arrival at the labor camp. He was put into a "small cell" to be tortured. He was shocked with electric batons many times by warden Chen Xinlong, vice-warden Zeng, and instructor Gao Zhonghai. Cao Jingdong was injured all over his body. He was forced to protest with a hunger strike.

Daqing practitioner Li Yequan is 39 years old. To uphold his belief, Li Yequan started hunger striking from September 2005. Over the past nine months he has lost so much weight that only skin and bones are left. His family visited him and asked the labor camp authorities to release him, but were refused. A policeman said there were allowable death quotas in their labor camp. (Remark: Li Yequan has escaped from the labor camp.)

Li Shaotie was a Fujin Falun Gong practitioner. He was detained in Suihua Labor Camp in 2004. For refusing to be be "transformed," he was beaten by the guards. His front tooth was broken by vice-warden Diao Xuesong. His mouth filled with blood and stained half his shirt front. Instructor Gao Zhonghai stomped on Mr. Li Shaotie's foot, making his toenails break, and shouted, "I would beat you to death if I could avoid punishment."

Yan Shubing is a practitioner from Qitaihe City, Zhuangxing Farm. For refusing to be "transformed," he was often shocked with an electric baton by warden Chen Xinlong. One day, he said that he could not finish his work. Because of this he was beaten up by vice-warden Liu Wei, causing his nose and mouth to bleed. Since April of this year, there have been only two meals a day in the labor camp. The first time is at 9:00 a.m.; the second time is 3:00 p.m. The staple food is rice, and the meal is radish and pickles in the winter. The so-called pickles are actually made with salt that cannot be eaten. However, the Falun Gong practitioners are forced to do hard labor for over 12 hours every day. They don't treat the Falun Gong practitioners as human beings.

The above listed crimes committed in this labor camp are just the tip of the iceberg. We hope all people with a sense of justice wills oppose the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in Suihua Labor Camp.

Three Falun Gong Practitioners from Hebei Province Sentenced to Forced Labor

Recently, Falun Gong practitioners Yan Mao, Cheng Ming and Zheng Guiqin, from Wanquan County, Hebei Province, were sentenced to forced labor after being illegally arrested by the local police.

While distributing truth-clarifying materials on the night of July 20, 2006, Falun Gong practitioners Yan Mao and Cheng Ming from Kongjiazhuang Town, Wanquan County, Hebei Province were arrested and taken to the Kongjiazhuang Police Station by local patrol officers. Falun Gong practitioner Zheng Guiqin, a resident of Kongjiazhuang, along with her son, were followed and arrested by undercover officers from the local police station while they were putting up signs to clarify the truth.

Officers from the Kongjiazhuang Police Station, along with officers from the National Security Group of the Police Department of Wanquan County, took the three practitioners to the Zhangjiakou Detention Center, where they were held as criminals. The three of them went on hunger strikes to protest the persecution. They all became very weak and semiconscious. Inmates cruelly beat Yan Mao and Cheng Ming.

Their family members tried various methods to bring them back home. However, they were all sentenced to forced labor, despite being in poor physical condition because of the hunger strike. Yan Mao and Cheng Ming were sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor and were sent to the Hehuakeng Labor Camp in Tangshan City, Hebei Province. Zheng Guiqin was sentenced to two years of forced labor and sent to the Gaoyang Labor Camp in Hebei Province.

Li Min, the newly appointed secretary of the County Party Committee of Wanquan County, holds direct responsibility for the persecution of these practitioners.

Tianjin University Graduate Liu Yongwang Holds 103-Day Hunger Strike at Jidong Prison

Beijing Falun Gong practitioner Liu Yongwang was illegally sentenced in May 2006 by the Xinshi District Court in Baoding City, Hebei Province. He is detained in the First Team of Jidong Prison, Tangshan City where he is suffering torture. Liu Yongwang started a hunger strike which went on for 103 days. Every day he was force-fed twice. His weight is less than 50 kg. (110 lb.) The prison refuses to let his family members visit him. Every day they force him to "sit on a board" (1) from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Six people monitor him around the clock.

Mr. Liu Yongwang, 34, graduated from Tianjing University. He is originally from Quyang, Hebei Province. He was illegally arrested on September 13, 2001 in Shanghai for practicing Falun Gong. He had been illegally detained at a detention center in Shanghai and at Baoding City Detention Center in Hebei Province for over eighty days. On December 10, 2001 he was sent to the Baoding City Forced Labor Camp to be persecuted. On October 13, 2002 the police dragged him into a room that was often used to torture and punish determined Falun Gong practitioners. The police used all kinds of brutal punishments to try to force him to give up Falun Gong practice. They used electric batons and rubber clubs to beat him. They put the "tightening rope" on him and tightly wrapped his arms. Then they used rubber clubs and leather belts to beat his face. His front tooth was knocked out. They used an electric baton to beat his sensitive spots, such as the top of his head and the inside of his thigh, for a very long time, until the smell of charred flesh permeated the room. The brutal beating lasted for three days. After that, they left him tied spread-eagle on to a metal bed 24 hours-a-day for 21 days. His back was wounded from the prickly metal grids on the bed and started to bleed. Finally Liu Yongwang's left leg crippled. Then he was transferred to the Tangshan City Forced Labor Camp for further persecution. In early May 2004, he was diagnosed with "neurological damage in both lower limbs," which would progress to paralysis. He was released on medical parole in mid-June, 2004.

On August 24, 2005, Liu Yongwang was arrested again by the Beijing National Security Bureau. He was first detained at the Beijing National Security Bureau Detention Center, and then transferred to the Hebei Province Security Department Detention Center and Baoding City Detention Center. Large Amount of Truth Clarification Material Appears in Beijing -- Police Shocked

According to internal sources from the Beijing Police Department, around August 25, 2006, many banners and a huge quantity of truth clarification flyers appeared from the Wudaokou to the Shangdiqinghe areas in the Haidian District of Beijing. Several dozen policemen tried to chase down and arrest the responsible Falun Gong practitioners, who successfully escaped. CCP officials are frightened by this, and plan to investigate practitioners in Beijing's urban districts.

Some police stations are conducting a person-by-person survey of all practitioners on the "blacklist," especially those detained in forced labor camps and prisons. Policemen are going to practitioners' homes, one-by-one, asking them about their "attitude toward Falun Gong," their current cell phone numbers and other contact information, their employers, their work phone number and work location, what they were doing on August 25 and September 1, who can prove that, whether they have Internet connections, etc, etc.

On the morning of September 7, 2006, practitioner Mr. Tang You, who lives in Badachu Military District in the Shijingshan District, was arrested in his home, and his home was ransacked. There have been many practitioners arrested in the Shijingshan District. On the afternoon of August 27, 2006, practitioners Mr. Yang Peng, and his wife, Wang Ying, and Mr. Wang Zehua, etc. were arrested on the street or at home.

Mr. Dai Xianming from Hubei Province Died due to Persecution

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Dai Xianming, 62, lived in Daiying Village, Xiaochi Town, Huangmei County, Hubei Province. He was a traditional Chinese doctor, but he could not cure all sorts of diseases he had. After he started practicing Falun Gong in 1996, all of his illnesses disappeared. When the Chinese communist party (CCP) began persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal and was brutally beaten by policeman Li Chunfang and others from Xiaochi Police Station.

In April 2001, Mr. Dai was sent to Shizishan Forced Labor Camp by Xiaochi Police Station officials without evidence. Because he failed his physical check-up, the camp rejected him. At the end of March 2002, he was sent to Lushan Police Department in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, by the local police. He was cruelly tortured and was near-death when his family bailed him out.

In the ensuing years, Mr. Dai Xianming was arrested four times and forced to leave home once to avoid being arrested. Due to this long term harassment by the police, which resulted in the return of his old ailments, he died on June 16, 2006.
