  • Ms. Liu Lihua Tortured to Death in Wuhan City

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Lihua from Wuhan City, Hubei Province, had been tortured multiple times. She was tied to the Death Bed, tortured with the big hang up (1) in a detention center, and was locked in a small dark cell (2) in Wuhan City's Hewan Forced Labor Camp. She became as thin as a skeleton and died on June 9, 2006.

Ms. Liu Lihua, 50, was the Hongshan District Farming Technology Service Center Director in Wuhan City. She went to Beijing to clarify the truth of Falun Gong on July 22, 1999, and in December 1999. She was detained for two years in Haogou Brainwashing Center, Wuhan City First Detention Center, and Hewan Forced Labor Camp. In the detention center, she was tied on the death bed and tortured with the big hang up (1) for doing the Falun Gong exercises. Later she was sent to Hewan Forced Labor Camp for one year of forced labor. While there she was locked in a small dark cell (2) for refusing to accept the brainwashing. There were two prisoners who served as "personal cangues (3)." Ms. Liu was brutally force-fed because of her long-term hunger strike to protest the persecution. She was also tortured with four months of sleep deprivation, causing her to become as thin as a skeleton.

On April 3, 2003, her employer and the district 610 Office workers arrested her and took her to the notorious Hubei Province Tangxun Lake Brainwashing Center, which is located in a deserted resort. The building has a glass ceiling in the middle, and the whole place is sealed off with metal wire. CCP propaganda materials defaming Falun Gong were posted everywhere.  To keep her from practicing Falun Gong, two of  her colleagues monitored in her room everyday. Because Ms. Liu called out "Falun Dafa is great! Truth-Compassion- Forbearance is great! Falun Dafa is righteous!" they stuffed her mouth with tape, and she lost her voice, She was also deprived of her visitation rights. Starting in September 2005, Ms. Liu Lihua was extremely uncomfortable, and she died on June 9, 2006.

    (1) There are two forms in this torture: (1) With both hands cuffed behind the back and only the toes touching the ground, one is hung by a rope that is tied to the metal window frames; (2) One hand of a practitioner is cuffed to one bunk bed and the other hand to another bed, and the two beds are pulled in the opposite directions. It is extremely painful as the body is being pulled apart. See illustration on /emh/articles/2004/11/17/54624.html

    (2) The detainee is locked up in a very small cell individually. The guards handcuff practitioners behind their backs in a fixed position in which the practitioners can neither move nor lie down. The small cell is very damp and no sunshine comes in. Detainees have to perform their bodily functions in the cell. Only half of a regular meal is served to detainees locked up in a small cell during the daytime. During the night the rats run around. The stench in the small cell is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.

    (3) There are "open cangues" and "secret cangues") [Note: "Cangue," the name of an instrument of torture, is now used to indicate the person who is designated to supervise the behavior of practitioners.]

CCP Fears the "Nine Commentaries" - Falun Gong Practitioner Lu Xiangyun Illegally Sentenced to Three Years in Labor Camp

Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Lu Xiangyun, over 50 years old, was recently sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp by the Chaoyang Police Department. The illegal sentence was related to the fact that a copy of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party was found while perpetrators ransacked her home.

On March 18, 2006, police officers from the Dongba Township Police Station illegally arrested Lu Xiangyun and ransacked her home. Falun Gong books and a copy of the Nine Commentaries were found during the search. Afterwards, Lu Xiangyun was jailed at the Chaoyang Police Department and no one was allowed to visit her.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is afraid of the wide spreading of the Nine Commentaries. Instead of openly responding to it, the party uses its full energy to arrest people who spread the Nine Commentaries. Many Falun Gong practitioners were arrested only because they owned a copy of the Nine Commentaries.

People all over the world know that the residents of Beijing are all under strict control. Outwardly, the excuse of the control is for maintaining stability of society. Internally, it is actually for monitoring and controlling Falun Gong practitioners who are spreading truth-clarifying materials. Before some big events were held which could possibly uplift the image of the party, many Falun Gong practitioners were arrested. As the 2008 Olympics approach, the suppression toward the residents of Beijing is getting stricter. In the suburbs of Beijing, monitoring systems are being continuously installed in the residential areas. The party uses neighborhood administrations, village committees, police agents, security officers, policemen, and special agents from the National Security Group to tightly control Falun Gong practitioners. Falun Gong practitioners are illegally arrested almost every day.

As Falun Gong practitioners in Beijing who have experienced the illegal persecution for the past seven years, we want to call for help from the International Olympic Committee and other related international organizations: We wish you could truly investigate the human rights conditions in China. In order to hold the Olympics, the Chinese Communist Party's guarantee to maintain "stability and security of society" is actually the biggest excuse to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. In the labor camps of the CCP, more than one hundred thousand Falun Gong practitioners have been imprisoned. Organs have been harvested from thousands of living Falun Gong practitioners, and their corpses burned to destroy the evidence. In order to disclose the crimes of the CCP, Falun Gong practitioners have to face illegal arrests every day. Maintaining social stability in order to "welcome the Olympics" has become the newest excuse to further persecute these benevolent people. We think that it is the responsibility of the International Olympic Committee and other related organizations to help investigate and stop the crimes of persecution against Falun Gong. The international community must not ignore the fact that the CCP uses the Olympics as an excuse to further persecute Falun Gong, because the crimes, which trample on human consciousness and morality, are totally incompatible with the spirit of the Olympics.

The Women's Forced Labor Camps in Guangzhou City

The Chatou Women's Forced Labor Camp in Guangzhou City was selected by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 2005 as the "National Women's Pacesetter for Ethics." But in reality, it is a place worse than hell and a place where demonic human nature is prevalent in the staff. Staff at this labor camp persecute Falun Gong practitioners relentlessly and inhumanly.

Staff at the special section for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners at Chatou Forced Labor Camp utilize many types of torture methods in persecuting practitioners. During the past years, in an attempt to destroy practitioners' wills to the practicing, they spared no efforts.

    1. Torture methods used against practitioners

Practitioners who remain firm in their believe are forced to sit on a stool, facing the wall in the evenings. They are not allowed to go to sleep until after midnight. Some were even deprived of sleep. They were also forced to stand still for a long time, and closely monitored by prison guards. Quite a number of practitioners suffered heart attacks, high blood pressure and other illnesses. Their legs swelled from the torture, making it difficult to move around.

In 2001, practitioner Ms. Li Yan was handcuffed to an iron bed and positioned spread-eagle for as long as 13 hours. She was not allowed to go to the toilet and was deprived of sleep.

In 2001, Ms. Xie Yan, Ms. Li Qiong and other practitioners were handcuffed and hung up outside the window in severe cold weather for dozens of hours in an attempt to "freeze" them. Prison guard Wang Yu received karmic retribution shortly after she persecuted practitioners.

In 2002, the prison guards handcuffed both hands and one leg of practitioner Ms. Lu Yirong to a window frame and made her stand on one leg for fourteen days. The guards did not let her close her eyes. Whenever she closed her eyes, the on-duty guards would prick her eyelids with needles. They also did not allow her to go to the toilet. More practitioners were handcuffed to the sides of two beds and forced to stand for long periods of time. They also suffered sleep deprivation.

During September and October 2002, staff at the forced labor camp cruelly and inhumanly tortured steadfast practitioners in an effort to meet the "transformation" quota assigned by the higher ups. They locked practitioners in a confinement cell, forced them to sit cross-legged and then tied up their legs in that position with bed sheets. The guards deprived practitioners of sleep and ordered prison inmates to beat them. The guards also put insects on practitioners so they would bite their hands and faces, force-fed them with chili and pressed the practitioners' heads toward the ground to cut off air. As a result, Ms. Jiao Jian and Ms. Tang Yiwen were crippled, and other practitioners suffered severe injuries. The practitioners who were tied up and beaten up include Ms. Zhou Meilin, Ms. Deng Yi, Ms. Li Miaolian, Ms. Chen Hua, Ms. Si Bing, Han Yize, Ms. Wang Qian, Ms. Tang Fulan, Ms. Xu Juhua, Ms. Xie Yan, Ms. Luo Jiangying, Ms. Chen Hua and others. They were also beaten up by collaborators Yue Huiling (released from Masanjia Forced Labor Camp), Zhang Yijun, Xu Shaoqi and Zhang Ruifang.

From October 2002, Xu Shaoqi and Zhang Ruifang, along with their husbands Ren Renjie and Tian Ping, earned a living by trying to "transform" practitioners through torture at Tianhe Brainwashing Center. They claimed to be assigned to this task as special representatives of the Central 610 Office. Those who tortured practitioners include the Head of the Forced Labor Camp Xu Xiangan, Deputy Head Liang Huiping, Head of the Management Section Lu Dongmei, the Political Instructor of the special section Hua Shaoxia, Team Leader Xiang Fan, Deputy Team Leader Zhang Weixin and Chen Yunlian.

    Sketch of Torture

    Sketch of Torture Demonstration

In the beginning of 2003, practitioner Ms. Wang Haiyan was illegally arrested and staff from the Guangzhou 610 Office took her to a forced labor camp. Because of beatings at the camp, one of her eyes were injured. The labor camp deprived her of sleep and forced her to stand still for a long period of time. They tried hard to have her renounce Falun Gong. The injured eye went blind.

In November 2004, over 60-year old practitioner Ms. Liu Huaiying was arrested at home and taken to a forced labor camp. Ms. Liu Huaiying remained steadfast in practicing Falun Gong for more than a year. Team Leader Lu Dongmei and other guards often forced Ms. Liu to sit on a small stool, and did not allow her to put on her clothes. She lost consciousness a few times due to sustaining severe beatings with electric batons. The depraved guards poured cold water on her so she would regain consciousness. Sometimes, Ms. Liu would be forced to stand for a long time without sleep. The guards also ordered drug addicts to beat Ms. Liu Huaiying or verbally abuse her. She was locked up in the "strict control" cell where all windows were covered with newspaper. She was not allowed to have any contact with other people, and was restricted in using the toilet or taking a shower. Normally, the guards would extend the time of torture. Ms. Liu was also forbidden to meet with her family members who came to visit. Even the purchase of daily necessities was limited. She was not allowed to talk to other people, not even just to say hello. She was constantly monitored by two inmates. She lost all personal freedom. She was forced to undergo brainwashing. The forced labor camp broadcasted programs slandering Falun Gong most of the time, with the volume turned to ear deafening levels.

    2) Brainwashing to force practitioners to renounce their beliefs

The prison guards forced practitioners to spend a lot of time watching television programs containing fabricated news and evil doctrines that slander Falun Gong. They also used affection among family members, threats to loss of jobs and access to schools. The guards also threatened practitioners' families and colleagues, saying that they would be penalized and made guilty by association. Also, various torture methods as well as sleep deprivation are used to torment practitioners until they are muddle-headed. The purpose of the torture is to force practitioners to sign "guarantee statements" [to no longer practice Falun Gong]. Every day practitioners are forced to write so-called "ideological reports" and slander Falun Gong. They want to "transform" practitioners into bad people who are fakes, vicious, and like to fight with other people. The "transformed" people are in turn used to attack and transform other practitioners.

In the beginning of 2003, when I was still in the forced labor camp, guard Xu Xiaohong often had several hundred inmates, those who enlightened along an evil path and those who were forced to renounce their belief in Falun Gong, to shout slogans in front of my dormitory for a long time. It was as if public meetings to criticize and denounce others, as practiced during the Cultural Revolution, were being used again.

At the time, university and post-graduate law students were assigned to the forced labor camp. I asked them during law discussions, "Is there anything legal in how the labor camp authorities deal with Falun Gong practitioners?" They admitted that it was illegal. The head of the labor camp, section leader, the secretary of the disciplinary commission, the political inspector, team leader and guards all tried to have a "heart-to-heart talk" with me and put a lot of pressure on me. I clarified the truth to them. Some could accept it and showed their sympathy towards Falun Gong, while others became even more ferocious. They ridiculed, swore at and threatened me. I asked them, "Is this how you do ideological work? I have been teaching ideological and political issues to students for more than a dozen years. I have never seen anyone like you. Coercion can not change people's hearts." After tearing off their "civilized" mask they sneaked off.

    3) Using psychiatric drugs to persecute practitioners

At the end of December 2002, the labor camp authorities tried to force Ms. Tang Yiwen and me to "renounce" Falun Gong. They deprived us of sleep for 5 days and 5 nights. We were forced to stand all the time, resulting in injury to our legs. The lower portion of our legs were swollen as thick as our thighs. I was running a high fever. The guards finally stopped this torture, but only because they were afraid it might cause our deaths. However, they did not give up. They took us to a hospital for treatment. They colluded with the head of the acupuncture and moxibustion [The burning of moxa or other substances on the skin to treat diseases or to produce analgesia] section of the hospital attached to Guangzhou Traditional Chinese Medical University outpatient section. He gave us drugs to damage our central nervous system. After taking the drugs I felt dizzy, had a headache, abnormal heartbeat, and symptoms of high blood pressure. After that the doctor of the forced labor camp ordered the inmates to press me down so that I was unable to move and then gave me injections. They also forced me to take nerve-damaging drugs but I threw them up.

The camp authorities force-fed the practitioners who refused to renounce Falun Gong. To do this they insert a thick tube down to the practitioners' stomachs through the nose. They then insert and pull out the tube several times to make the practitioner suffer. As a result they often injure the practitioners' esophagus or hurt the windpipe, or even the lungs. The guards use practitioners' money to buy milk power. When they force-feed the practitioners, they add drugs that damage the central nervous system and internal organs. This has done great harm to practitioners' brains and internal organs.

An inmate who was involved in the force-feeding of Ms. Deng Yi often told me that the forced labor camp authorities put drugs into the milk powder and sometimes would add more than one drug. Ms. Deng Yi was on hunger strike for more than a year and was skin and bones, weighing only dozens of kilos. She lost part of her memory. She looked as if dumb and had a hard time expressing herself. She could barely stand and had difficulty walking, requiring two people to support her on both sides when she walked.

During all these years of persecution, the majority of practitioners in forced labor camps suffered from illnesses because of the inhuman and cruel torture. This was due to physical and mental injury due to the torture. The so-called medical treatment failed to relieve symptoms, and made them suffer more. Some even suffered from complications. The prison guards controlled all the medicine, and even the time and location when the medicines were to be given. Whoever did not obey was punished. They would call in the drug order for force-feeding. They claimed that this was being responsible for the lives of the practitioners. There was a very strange phenomenon in the camp. Whoever cooperated with the guards and was willing to renounce Falun Gong or even be their accomplices recovered from their illnesses very quickly. The symptoms of those who refused to cooperate worsened, no matter how much so-called medicine they took. What's more, the practitioners had to pay extremely high medical bills.

In the forced labor camp, the medicine, especially those drugs that damaged the central nervous system and the internal organs, are exactly the murder weapons in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.

    4) Was this selling blood for money or were there ulterior motives?

The camp authorities would order several inmates to press a practitioner down and then draw a tube of blood from the practitioner, calling it a health checkup or checking for AIDS. Was this selling blood for money or did they have ulterior motives? The doctors only checked heart, lung, liver, kidney and woman's diseases. However, they still charged the practitioners 500 yuan for sending the blood to other locations for test work. Some practitioners were too poor to pay the money, so their time in the labor camp would be extended for several months, during which they had to work to pay the money.

The Chinese Communist Party Has Broken up My Family and Caused the Deaths of My Husband and My Son

I was a housewife and a farmer. There were six people in my family: my husband and I, my son and daughter-in-law, my younger daughter, and a little grandson. In 1998, we fortunately started practicing Falun Gong.

Before starting the practice, my husband had many kinds of incurable illnesses. He had to take various medicines from year to year. My only son was in a car accident on October 7, 1997. He was sent to Xi'an Medical College hospital for emergency treatment. After he had been treated for four months and 17 days, his life was finally saved, but he was paralyzed and his legs had been amputated just below his hips. When he left the hospital, the doctor told me, "You must be mentally prepared. In good circumstances he may live for a year, but in a poor situation, maybe half a year." This sad news was no doubt like one misfortune after another to my family. Unable to withstand this terrible news, my husband fell ill. I then had to look after two patients with serious problems. I tried hard to smile when I faced them, but when I turned away, I burst into tears. At this difficult time, I was fortunately introduced to Falun Gong. It was May 20, 1998.

In order for my husband, who was lying on a bed, and my son, who is in a wheelchair and not willing to go outside, to be able to practice Falun Gong, we set up a site at our house. After starting to practice Falun Gong, they felt better and better. Especially my husband, who could start to do some farm work, though he had not taken a grain of medicine or a single shot for over one year. My son's mood and physical condition also improved. Falun Gong had brought brightness, hope, and happiness to our family.

On July 20, 1999, the Communist Party started to persecute Falun Gong. My family's whereabouts and telephone conversations were monitored. The police and town government officials came to our house to harass, intimidate, and threaten us day after day. They intended not to let us study the Fa or practice the exercises. Even worse, on New Year's Day 2000, the police monitored my younger daughter and son-in-law while they were traveling for their honeymoon. Just after the couple returned home, the police arranged to illegally arrest them. The police arrested my daughter, who escaped later with righteous thoughts, and my son-in-law, who was sentenced to a two-and-a -half-year term in prison.

Having been so frail, my husband declined once again, but the wicked party still wouldn't leave my family alone. They frequently took turns harassing us and trying to force us to sign a guarantee statement not to practice anymore. When we refused, they came more often. At noon on March 1, 2000, a group of people, one after the other, came to our home three times. The first group was one full vehicle load from the local police station. The second time, one person came; the third time it was a vehicle with people from the town government. They intimidated, threatened, and mentally tortured us. My husband died the next day. They still did not stop. They searched for Falun Gong books and continued to monitor and harass us. On June 5, 2001, no longer able to bear the repeated attacks, my beloved son also died.

At that time, it seemed to me that the sky had collapsed. Yet it was good that I had Master looking after me and the support of Falun Gong. My grandson and I endured solidly. We studied the Fa, practiced the exercises, did truth clarification, and saved people. Under the protection of our great and benevolent Master, I managed to endure.

On July 8, 2005, CCP personnel illegally broke into my house. They ransacked all Falun Gong related materials and all valuables in my home. They cursed and beat me, a nearly 60-year-old woman. They injured my legs and pulled out several clumps of hair from my head. They detained me for 42 days. My not-yet-10-year-old grandson was left with nobody to look after him. He wandered the streets, unable to return home.

The Persecution Facts Concerning Falun Gong Practitioners in Hailin City, Heilongjiang Province

Ms. Ba Lijiang was force-fed and tortured with "Airplane Flying" (the victim must stand with her back against the wall, head dropped forward, and both hands pulled up from behind) for several hours, which caused the recurrence of heart disease at Hailin City Detention Center. Because she persisted in practicing the exercises, Ms. Ba was forced to wear 23-kilogram shackles and the "Holding one Hand" (a torture tool similar to handcuffs). She was also force fed at Harbin Women's Prison for protesting the persecution.

Ms. Jia Shumin was tortured with "Tying the Ropes," a brutal torture that involves putting a thin nylon rope around the back of a person's neck and then wrapping it around both shoulders down to each arm loop by loop and then over each hand. The rope, tightened to its limit, cuts into the flesh. Both arms are forced behind the back and raised to the extreme, and then both thumbs are tied securely with a rope that goes around the back of the neck. The person tortured in this way is then kicked to kneel down on the floor. The rope is released about an hour later, and then the person is tied up like this again and again and again. This occurred at the Department of State Security, Hailin City Police Station. She was slapped on the face while the ropes were tied up the eighth time, which caused numbness in her shoulders for over half a year.

Ms. Wei Liping was slapped on the face by then-deputy-director of the Department of State Security, Hailin City Police Station, which caused her to lose her hearing in one ear. Because she protested the persecution, Ms. Wei was force fed with corn soup and a large amount of salt, which caused her to cough deeply and to cough up blood for several months. Because Harbin Prison could not accept her, she was detained in shackles in Hailin City Detention Center.

Practitioner Ms. Wang Hongzhou was forced to wear 23-kilogram shackles and the "Holding one Hand" because she practiced the exercises in Hailin City Detention Center.

Ms. Lin Chunzi was about 60 years old. In the National Security Group of Hailin City Police Department, she was forced to sit on a chair with both hands handcuffed behind the chair. One policeman pulled her hair at the back while another poured wasabi oil into her nose. They then covered her head with a plastic bag, which they would take off when she was nearly dead. This routine of giving her wasabi oil, covering her head with a plastic bag, and then taking it off were repeated again and again until Ms. Lin's heart disease recurred. When she was detained in the Hailin City Detention Center, cold water was poured on her. She had on only thin clothes and slippers, and it was icy cold November weather. She then was handcuffed to the pole of the pavilion outside. Besides this, she was forced to wear the "Holding one Hand" because she kept practicing the exercises.

Practitioner Ms. Liu Lihu was beaten by the policemen at the National Security Group, Hailin City, until her head was full of bumps. She was tortured with "Airplane Flying" and forced to wear 23-kilogram shackles and the "Holding one Hand."

Practitioner Fu Pengchong was tortured with different methods including "Tying the Ropes" for three or four days at the National Security Group of Hailin City Police Department.

Practitioner Meng Xianwei was tortured for six days at the National Security Group of Hailin City Police Department.

Practitioner Sun Changshun was force fed with wasabi oil at the National Security Group of Hailin City Police Department, which resulted in the practitioner's eyes turning bloody red and protruding.

Ms. Zhu Fuju was detained in the Hailin City Detention Center and forced to stand on a cement floor outside in the courtyard on cold winter days. Those in charge poured three buckets of freezing cold water over her head, which caused frostbite on her feet. Because she protested the persecution, she was force fed, which resulted in shock. Currently she is still detained in the Detention Center of Hailin City Forest Bureau.
