  • Hong Kong Practitioner Liu Ding Illegally Detained in Beijing

My mother and I are permanent residents of Hong Kong. Because my father became paralysed, my mother went back to Beijing, and she has been looking after my dad for the past five years. Recently the evil Chinese Communist Party has deprived her of her freedom and right to look after my critically ill father. It was reported that she is detained in the Public Security Sub-Bureau of Xuanwu District, Beijing City.

In 1998 Liu Ding (left) and her daughter in Lantao Island Hong Kong

My mother's name is Liu Ding. My paralysed father has been an in-patient of the Guanganmenwai Hospital in Beijing for a long time. On the afternoon of June 6, 2006, mother took dinner to dad in the hospital as usual. At about 7:30 p.m. she left the hospital. We lost contact with her at that point. When she didn't return home, the relative who lives with my mother notified my brother. I received a phone call from my brother in the middle of the night. He said that Mum was missing. My brother worried that unexpected things might happen to her. He went to the hospital to make inquiries.

On the morning of June 7, my aunt and one of my cousins also went out to look for Mum. When they came back at about 9:00 a.m., they found over ten people waiting outside the house. They were from the Tianqiao Community Center, the Sports Stadium Road Community Center, the Police Department in Chongwen District, the Beijing City Police Department, the National Security Bureau, and the National Protection Bureau, etc. They went into the house and confiscated computers, materials, books, DVDs, CDs and my brother's maintenance tools.

I made a phone call to my brother in the morning and learned that Mum had been arrested. My brother said that security personnel told him that they caught her when she was distributing Falun Gong truth-clarifying fliers on her way home from the hospital. She was taken to the police sub-station near Guanganmen in Xuanwu District. Mum is now detained in the Police Department in Xuanwu District Beijing.

In the summer of 1997, Mum started to practice Falun Gong. Soon afterwards, her cervical hyperosteogeny, from which she suffered for several decades, disappeared. Her attitude towards her students changed dramatically. When she was teaching in a public school in Hong Kong, she earned the respect and praise of the teachers and students at school. Because both of us cultivate ourselves under the guidance of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance, we changed our tempers and we also get along increasingly well together. Through cultivation, Mum and I have experienced the power of Falun Gong and the miracles it has created.

In 2001 my father became critically ill. Mum went back to Beijing to look after Dad. Mum's arrest was a heavy blow to Dad. He not only lost Mum but also suffered the loss of Mum's spiritual support. Mum also took care of my brother's child and my cousin who is partially paralysed. Spiritually Mum is the backbone of our entire family.

My whole family worries about Mum. My brother has had several sleepless nights. Especially after the news that the evil Communist Party harvests organs from Falun Gong practitioners surfaced, we were even more worried about Mum. So many practitioners like my Mum who are detained should be released unconditionally.

Here I demand that the Communist regime in Mainland China release my Mum immediately. I also appeal to the Hong Kong Government, Hong Kong Society and all kind-hearted people worldwide to help obtain the release of my Mum and other persecuted practitioners.

Mum is now being illegally detained in the detention center of  Xuanwu District Police Department, Beijing City.

Whereabouts of Practitioner Couple Remain Unknown

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Huimin, 53, is a resident of the Haidian District, Beijing City, and a retiree of the Bejing 507 Institute, which is affiliated with the People's Liberation Army. In March 2003, while the National Congress was in session, Ms. Li was arrested at the hospital where she had been caring for her sick father. During her detention, the authorities forced her to stand for long periods of time and allowed her almost no rest or sleep. Due to the extensive standing, she was unable to bend her legs, walk, or get out of bed on her own. Newly-recruited soldiers had to lift her onto and out of her bed.

On the tenth day of her detention, as Ms. Li's father worried about her situation, his illness worsened and he died.

In September 2003, after six months of detention, she was transferred to the Daxing Forced Labor Camp in Beijing.

In September 2005, after Ms. Li had completed her two-year sentence of forced labor, officials arrested her at her workplace. Her whereabouts remain unknown to this day.

Ms. Li's husband, Xu Qutian, was released after three years of forced labor in Guangzhou City. His whereabouts also remain unknown.

Ms. Li's sister died of cancer after contending with a great deal of anxiety.

Ms. Li's home phone number: 10-63968189

    Tortured to Death

Ms. Que Fazhi was a Falun Gong practitioner in Panlian Township, Miyi County, Sichuan Province. When she was alive, she was brutally persecuted by local Communist Party members numerous times. In May 2002, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. On June 3, she was arrested by police in Beijing and sent to Dongcheng Detention Center. Later, she was blindfolded and transferred to the basement of a nearby hospital where she was handcuffed and shackled onto a bed and given injections of unknown drugs. On October 30, 2002, she died in extreme pain at the age of 49.

Ms. Que Fazhi shortly before her death Ms. Que Fazhi's swollen body Ms. Que Fazhi's swollen body

Ms. Que Fazhi was a peasant in Shuitang Village. Before she started practicing Falun Gong, she suffered from rheumatism, back pain and several other illnesses. After she started to practice Falun Gong, all her illnesses disappeared. When the Communist Party started to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Que went to the Civil and Politics Department of Miyi County and relevant departments in Panzhihua City to appeal and tell the government officials how she personally had benefited from practicing Falun Gong. The local officials completely ignored her and then lied to her, saying that they would present whatever she reported to them to their superiors. One month later, the central government declared that practicing Falun Gong was a crime. On October 30, 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal. She was sent back to Miyi County and was detained for seven days.

In December 1999, Wang Zhengming, the deputy township mayor, and seven other people deceived Ms. Que Fazhi and put her into the village brainwashing center. Team director Chen Youjun and five others forced her to sweep the streets every morning and read articles slandering Falun Gong and Teacher. Around December 20, when she practiced the exercises in the evening, Li Laoer, a hired roughneck, happened to see her when he came downstairs after finishing a Mah-jong game. He grabbed her and began torturing her. Chen Youjun, who was also playing Mah-jong upstairs, and several other players, heard the beating and swearing, and they all came downstairs. Three other practitioners--Ms. Que Faxiu (Ms. Que Fazhi's older sister), Mr. Yang Shunfa, and Mr. Gong Zhihui--heard the beating and came out to take a look. Chen forced all of them to come out and squat in military position. Three young men, Li Laoer, Pu Jun, and Liu, savagely beat one practitioner at a time. They kicked each practitioner and placed the book slandering Teacher and Falun Gong on top of the practitioners' heads. They asked the practitioners in turn whether they would read the book aloud. Each practitioner said, "No." The three of them then circled around each practitioner and beat him or her fiercely on the back with their fists and kicks.

If the slanderous book they had placed on a practitioner's head fell, they circled around him or her and beat the practitioner ferociously. When Mr. Yang Shunfa refused to read the book, Li Laoer kicked him to the ground and stomped on his back. Then he pulled him up and kicked him down repeatedly. They surrounded Mr. Yang and kicked him without letup for half an hour.

The tyrants kicked Ms. Que Fazhi, Ms. Que Faxiu and Mr. Gong Zhihui against a young tree so hard that the tree was crushed. The three practitioners all suffered the same torture that Mr. Yang Shunfa endured for half an hour. The thugs then struck the practitioners' feet and lower backs with a club from midnight to seven in the morning. Chen Youjun then ordered them to stand from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. The punishment did not stop until the staff came to work that morning. The practitioners were sent back to small rooms, one practitioner per room. The "bed" was a paper sheet and a bamboo mat on the floor. After breakfast, Chen Youjun forced the four practitioners, who had multiple injuries, to sweep the nearby streets.

Mr. Gong Zhihui's feet and back were seriously hurt, Mr. Yang Shunfa's back was blue and purple, and Ms. Que Faxiu and Ms. Que Fazhi's lower backs and feet had numerous bruises. When Mr. Gong Zhihui was sweeping the street, he could not even lean forward to pick up the broom when it fell down. He could only pick it up with the tip of his foot. He walked as if he were lame, however Chen Youjun forced him to sweep the courtyard of the local government offices. After Mr. Gong finished sweeping, Chen forced him to read articles slandering Falun Gong and Teacher. Staff in the local government noticed that the practitioners looked extremely weak. They were afraid that the practitioners would collapse, so they let the practitioners go back to their rooms to take a rest.

Three days later, because the four practitioners still refused to write the so-called guarantee statement, Yan Jiqing called them into his office. The six evildoers were also present. They asked the practitioners whether they would obey the six notices from the Department of Public Security. The practitioners replied that they would not obey them because the six notices were wrong. Yan Jiqing gave a hint to the evildoers with his eyes to beat the practitioners. One of the thugs, An Qiang, struck Mr. Gong Zhihui's back and legs with a club. Pu Jun did the same thing to Mr. Yang Shunfa. They beat the practitioners' arms and shins using a club. They didn't stop until they were afraid the practitioners would die on the spot. Pu Jun and An Qiang then called Ms. Que Fazhi and her elder sister, Ms. Que Faxiu, into Chen Youjun's office and beat them as well. Ms. Que Faxiu passed out immediately. She gradually came to after Chen Youjun gave her some sugar water.

After Mr. Gong Zhihui was sent back to his small room, he passed out. When he regained consciousness, he wanted to use the restroom. He slowly reached his shoes and put them on. However, he could not stand up after several attempts. Chen asked him, "What happened to you?" Mr. Gong replied, "I cannot stand up." Mr. Gong's legs suffered spasms from the beating, the flesh on the back of his legs was broken, and his back was injured. He had to lay on the bed and he could not sit. He passed out again from the pain. On the second day, Chen Youjun went to each practitioner's room and attempted to force them to write the guarantee statement again. All the practitioners firmly refused.

They did not release these practitioners until December 31, 1999, one day before New Year's Day.

In July 2000, Shuitang Village officials again set up a brainwashing center to persecute practitioners. Those involved included village head Xu Chaoyou, Yang Tinghe, and others. Ms. Que Fazhi was sent to the brainwashing center and subjected to persecution. In the morning and afternoon, she was forced to run in circles for one hour and to stand for one hour. Xu Chaoyou monitored her when she was running. Another practitioner in his 70s was not strong enough to run, but Xu forced him to run quicker to catch up to the others. They read slanderous articles to the practitioners, and deprived practitioners of sleep for 48 hours. Practitioners were only allowed to stand or squat. Those who refused to write the guarantee statement were sent to the brainwashing center in Panlian Township and subjected to continued persecution.

Chen Youjun dragged out practitioners Zhang Jun, Mr. Liu Yunlong, Que Qingbo and beat them. Mr. Liu Yunlong was held in the brainwashing center for three days. He was denied sleep for two days and was forced to pay a 300 yuan fine. His back was injured from the beating. His father paid bail and took him home after three days.

In 2002, when Ms. Que Fazhi was posting truth clarification material, someone noticed her. She escaped and had to live a homeless life thereafter to avoid being persecuted.

In May 2002, Ms. Que Fazhi went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. At Tiananmen Square she was arrested by plainclothes policemen and sent to a nearby police station. At midnight she was transferred to Dongcheng Detention Center. On the second day, she was again transferred to the basement of a nearby hospital. Before she was sent to the basement, the police blindfolded her. They took off the blindfold after she was already in the basement. She saw policemen armed with guns. They forced her to lie on the bed, then handcuffed her hands, and shackled her feet to the bed. Then they injected her with unknown drugs. A few days later she was sent back to Dongcheng Detention Center. The police told her that if she refused to reveal her name, she would be sent back to the hospital again. She told them her name and home address for fear that she might be sent back to the hospital. Yang Zihua from Miyi County went to Dongcheng Detention Center to get her back. Police in Dongcheng Detention Center told Yang that Ms. Que Fazhi had heart disease, her kidneys were failing, and she could not live long after she returned home. Actually, they were describing the effects of the drugs they had given her. She did not have heart disease or failing kidneys.

After Ms. Que was sent back to Miyi County, she was held at the detention center. She had such a high fever that she had to put her chest close to the areas of the floor with water. She suffered tremendously from the heat in her heart. She sometimes put her chest on the floor and sometimes put it onto the edge of the bed to cool herself. For the whole night, she rolled back and forth on the bed. The poisonous drugs were torturing her body.

Several days later, Ms. Que was sent to the county hospital for an examination. The doctor said she was in critical condition and could die at any time. The detention center was afraid to take responsibility and released her.

Upon returning home, Ms. Que had egg-sized, stiff bumps along her lower stomach, groin, hips, and thighs due to the effect of the drugs. Yellow liquid seeped from all areas of her body. She was on the brink of death. However, Chai Faxiang, from the Political Security Division, and ten other policemen still went to her home to harass her. Several months later, her whole body was swollen and stiff. She could not sleep or take care of her daily needs and she became incontinent. Around October 30, 2002, Ms. Que Fazhi died in excruciating pain.

Lawless officials who were involved in the persecution of Ms. Que Fazhi in Miyi County:

My Body Weight Fell from 195 Pounds to 78 Pounds During Four and a Half Months of Torture

A woman who remained steadfast in her practice and beliefs endured a series of brutal tortures. Police tied her up and suspended her off the ground for three days. Doctors injected her with poison. Her body weight fell from 195 pounds to 78 pounds. Her non-practitioner husband was not spared either. The police poured boiling water on him during interrogation. The following is a first-hand account of what this Falun Gong practitioner experienced.

    * * * * * * * * *

I am a Falun Gong practitioner from Suihua, and learned Falun Gong in 1995. My body and mind benefited from the practice in ways that cannot be expressed in words. After Jiang's regime started the persecution of Falun Gong, I began to clarify the truth and expose the lies. On March 8, 2001, my fellow practitioners and I took train from Dalian to Jiamusi. One practitioner read Falun Gong books on the train. After being discovered by police, all of us were arrested.

The next day, the train arrived in Harbin Rail Station. Police handed us to Harbin Rail Station Police and the Police Station sent us to Harbin City 610 Office. The head of the 610 Office, Tan Yuansong, searched me and stole 870 yuan and two calling cards. When he asked any questions, I did not say anything. Tan Yuansong called on about eight police officers. They used rope the thickness of a small finger to tie up both my arms and ordered me to stand on a stool and hung me up. Then they kicked out the stool and I was hanging one meter off the ground. I weigh 195 lb. My belt broke. I hung there for three days and two nights. My arms became black and blue and there was swelling that looked like grains of rice on the skin. At this time, fellow practitioners told the police my name.

On March 16, my hometown local police station escorted me back and placed me in detention. They took my home from me. At that time I was already disabled and could not take care of myself. At 4:00 p.m. on March 23, I lost consciousness, and they had to release me. The police always harassed me, so I was forced to become homeless.

On April 16, 2002, because my husband (who is not a Falun Gong practitioner) did business in Beijing, we rented a house in Fengtai District. At around 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on April 20, Fengtai District Public Security Sub-bureau arrested my husband and me. When they asked my husband what I did in Beijing, my husband did not say anything, thus they beat me to the point of losing consciousness three times and poured boiling water on my husband's body. His right leg was beaten and broken. The scars are still on my husband's body and he limped when he walked.

At midnight on April 24, 2004, the police took me to the Beijing Training Center of Ruling by Law and forced me to be "transformed." Twelve people in total worked in turns and did not allow me to sleep. Finally I told them that, "you cannot transform me."

Later, police officer Xiao Heizi from the seventh section of Harbin City National Security led a team to Beijing and brought me back to Harbin City. Right after I got off the train gate, they used black clothing to cover my head and imprisoned me in the Harbin First Lockup. When I arrived there, police officers Liu Wei, Li Jiman, and Zhang Shuqin (taken from the criminal police first and second teams by the seventh section) began to torture me. They beat me with a one-inch thick plastic pipe until I lost consciousness. They then poured water on me to awaken me, and beat me again. Even today, I still have scars left on my body. Liu Wei illegally confiscated my 1,010 yuan in cash, my backpack and many clothes.

Because I was not "transformed," in June 2002 I was sent to the hospital at Wanjia Forced Labor Camp to be further persecuted. I do not remember the name of the chief at the hospital, who pushed me down and beat me. The head of nurses, surnamed Wang, (around 50 years old) was very evil and gave me three poisonous shots. After the injections, I slept several days and did not remember anything. I couldn't speak.

One day a male Falun Gong practitioner was force-fed and died from the brutality. On the second day they told his family member that he died of tuberculosis. When they force-fed me the next day, they said they would force-feed me to death like him.

On August 7, 2002, they sent me to the hospital at Harbin City Public Security to continue the persecution. Director Li from the Internal Medicine Department, head of nurses Gao Shufang, nurses Xu Jing and Zhang Yuanyuan, and Cong Damin from the first section at National Security, handcuffed my hands and tied me to the death bed. They trampled me. Four and a half months of persecution caused my body weight to fall from 195 pounds to 78 pounds, and my blood pressure was only 55 over 35. By December 20, 2002, under Master's strengthening, I was out of danger with righteous thoughts.

Mother Not Allowed to Visit Her Daughter Jailed in the Heizuizi Women's Prison of Changchun City, Jilin Province

Song Yanqun, an English teacher at Harbin Dade Japanese School, was arrested by Guo Wei, the head of the Shulan Police Department, along with other policemen on November 27, 2003 because of her belief in Falun Gong. Song Yanqun's younger sister, Song Bin, was arrested at the same time. The director of Shulan Police Department, Xin He, and policemen Li Zhuo, Li Yaochen, Li Jiazhe and Wang Tingbai, interrogated Song Yanqun and her sister. They tortured them both by tying them on a tiger bench, pricking their ears and eyes with a thin nail, and feeding them mustard oil. Song Yanqun was illegally sentenced to prison for twelve years. She was transferred to the Heizuizi Women's Prison, where she was tortured on the "dead person's bed" and held in solitary confinement. As a result, Song Yanqun contracted severe tuberculosis and lost weight, dropping to approximately sixty pounds.

On May 23, 2006, Song Yanqun's parents went to visit Song Yanqun in Heizuizi Women's Prison, but the guards would not allow Song Yanqun's mother to meet with her. Song's mother called and asked the leader of the Education Team, Cao Hong, why she was not allowed to meet with her daughter. Cao said, "Because you practice Falun Gong." Song's mother said, "But I am her mother. Is there any law saying I cannot meet with my daughter?" Cao did not answer her question and would not allow Song's mother to see her.

Since December 2005, whenever Song's mother went to the prison, she attempted to talk with Cao Hong. She also called Cao Hong twice. However, Cao Hong refused to meet or speak with Song Yanqun's mother.

Song Yanqun's father has been allowed to meet with her. However, the prison guards have limited his visits to between seven to ten minutes (the official visitation period at the prison is thirty minutes). Even though Song Yanqun's father is not allowed the full thirty minutes, the monitor (inmate assigned to monitor Song Yanqun) who joins the persecution of Song Yanqun, always utilizes some of the meeting time. The monitor has tried to deceive Song Yanqun's father with statements such as, "There is humane management in the prison," "The guards follow the law," and "The guards treat prisoners better than family."

During one meeting, the monitor asked Song Yanqun to stand at attention when meeting with her father, and lied in front of Song's father. A guard named Yang told the monitor, "Listen to what Song and her father say." After the guard came back, the monitor told her that Song's father told Song to not be "educated." Song's father immediately asked the monitor, "Are you just trying to get yourself released earlier by saying this? I will sue you if you do this again!" That monitor answered at once, "I will not do it again." The guard stopped the meeting. Thereafter, the monitor rebuked Song Yanqun.

Mr. Cheng Huatang's family lives in Duzhou Town, Changshou District, Chongqing City. All three members of his family started cultivating Falun Gong in 1997, and have been brutally tortured by the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution because they firmly hold their faith.

Mr. Cheng Huatang is 63 and quit smoking and drinking three days after starting the practice on May 17, 1999. His health improved, and he is free from illnesses. On November 17, 1999, policemen Li Zheng and Huang Zhiyong (both male) arrested Mr. Cheng and took him to the Duzhou Town Station, where they extorted 1,000 yuan from him before releasing him.
