  • Ms. Li Shuyuan Was Murdered and Her Organs Removed; Three Years Later the Family Still Denied Autopsy Report

On the evening of July 6, 2002, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Shuyuan from Huludao City, Liaoning Province was murdered. The next day, police officers and a doctor dissected her body. They removed her brain marrow and internal organs (heart, lung, liver, intestines, and stomach). More than three years have since passed, yet the officials still refuse to give Ms. Li Shuyan's family the report of the autopsy.

    1. Li Shuyuan Killed, Her Organs Removed

Ms. Li Shuyuan was 51 years old and a villager of Dahuangdi Village, in Taijitun Town, Lianshan District, Huludao City. On the afternoon of July 6, 2002, she went with fellow practitioners to Jinlizi Village, Jitun Town, Lianshan District, Huludao City to hand out truth-clarification materials. At about 10:30 p.m., she went missing at Jintuozi Village. The next day, police officers from Taijitun Township notified her family to go to the riverside to claim her body.

At about 8:00 p.m., when Li Shuyuan's family went there, they saw about 200 to 300 bystanders. At the bend of a river were two white vehicles labeled "Police." People standing at the outer circle were villagers, and in the inner circle were police, doctors, and other staff from Taijitun Police Station. They surrounded Li Shuyuan's body. Her body lay on the ground naked. It was cut open from the top of the chest to the abdomen. The skin was broken, her white ribs were exposed. All of her internal organs, including the heart, lungs, and liver, were removed, and her blood was all over the ground. The removed organs were contained in four or five plastic bags (placed beside Li Shuyuan's body). The organs had been placed on a piece of her clothing that was lying on the ground. The entire piece of clothing was soaked in blood. When her family saw this, they passed out and fell to the ground. Afterwards, the doctor sewed up her body.

After this "autopsy" was done, Li Shuyuan's family asked the police whether a death certificate was needed to cremate the body. A police officer said that wasn't necessary. Then he quickly wrote a body examination report, which claimed the cause of death as "suffocation." Then he said, "Her heart was fine, and her brain was fine. We needed to remove her other organs to do some tests." After that, two white vehicles took Li's organs away from the scene.

At about 9 a.m., when Li Shuyuan's family was occupied with funeral arrangements, people from Taijitun Town Police Station went to Li Shuyuan's temporary residence. They ransacked her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books.

Li Shuyuan's internal organs were removed and her body was exposed to the public. Kind-hearted villagers covered her body with clothing. While dressing her body, her family found blood all over her body. They also found large bruises on the right side of her forehead, right cheek, right arm and waist. When placing a hat on her, they found that the facial skin was broken and that the cuts from the dissection weren't sewed up, with fluid still coming out.

About 11p.m., Li Shuyuan's body was sent to Nanpiao District Cremation Center.

After that, Li Shuyuan's family went to the Huludao City Jurisdiction Bureau to request Li Shuyuan's stolen organs. No one at the Bureau paid attention to their request. On another occasion, Li's brother and sister-in-law asked someone purportedly well-connected with the Jurisdiction Bureau to try to obtain the stolen organs. They were told, "They [the organs] stank, so we threw them out." The officials at the Jurisdiction Bureau didn't provide Li Shuyuan's family with any documentation of the illegal organ extraction.

    2. Subsequent Investigation and Analysis

At about 5p.m. on the morning of July 7, a woman was found lying next to the home of Zheng Shizhong in Jinlizi Village. The woman was lying on her side and both hands were folded behind her back. She had dirt in her mouth and ears. Visible on her were traces of hand-scratching and kicking. Beneath her were Falun Gong truth-clarification materials. In her upper pocket were blood-stained flyers. News of the woman spread throughout the entire village. There were about 100 households in this village; more and more people came over to see what was going on. After Zheng Guangye, Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), visited the scene, he phoned the police station. Afterwards, the Taijitun Town Police Station dispatched a doctor and police officers to the scene. The officials ordered Zheng Guangye to find people to carry the body about 500 meters away from the scene to the bend of a river at the border of Jinlizi Village and Wofu Temple Village.

After police officers arrived at the scene, they didn't perform any investigation. They ordered someone to move the body. Consequently, the original scene displaying evidence of the crime was destroyed. The police officers then took pictures of the new scene. Were they trying to cover up something?

Outside of Zheng Shizhong's home where Li Shuyuan was killed

Place where Li Shuyuan was found, this house was built later

After Li's body was carried to the riverside, they searched her and found Falun Gong truth-clarification materials on her body. They spread them over her body and took many pictures. Later a male doctor in white, before hundreds of bystanders, cut open her body to extract her organs and opened her skull to remove her brain. Many people witnessed this process. After this was done, people from the police station went to Li's home to ransack it. They confiscated a Falun Gong book. Even though she was dead, they still ransacked her home. They just wanted to prove that Li Shuyuan was a Falun Gong practitioner.

Before 8 a.m. on July 7, before the police confirmed her identity, police only knew that she was a Falun Gong practitioner. Before her family was notified, and without her family's consent, within 24 hours of her death, the police removed her organs and brain. After her organs were removed, no one produced any documentation recording the procedure. An official only claimed her cause of death as "suffocation." Whether she was suffocated by an external force or by accident wasn't clearly indicated.

When Li Shuyuan's family was collecting her body, they found several things. First, they found that the skin on her head was opened and there was a cut at the bottom of the back of her head. It looked as though her brain had been removed. Later this was confirmed by some villagers. Second, they found large bruises on the right side of her body, her face, her right forehead, and cheeks. She also had bruises on her right arm. There were more bruises as large as a fist on the right side of her lower back.

Before Li Shuyuan went missing on July 6, 2002, fellow practitioners who clarified the truth with her confirmed that, when they saw each other off, Li Shuyuan was in good spirits. So the chances of her dying from natural causes is very slim. Li was in good shape when she was alive.

Two witnesses confirmed that, at about 11 p.m. on July 6, 2002, when Li was handing out truth-clarification materials, they saw a large man standing nearby. He looked vicious. Other practitioners who went to Jilizi Village to hand out truth-clarification materials also reported that before when they went to hand out truth-clarification materials, they had seen this person before. It is possible that he was a plainclothes police officer.

From the way Li was found lying down, it appeared as though she had been brutalized by the police. Both her hands were behind her. When a person is about to fall, typically to brace the fall, both hands would be placed in the front. So it isn't possible that both her hands were originally behind her back. It's possible that the plainclothes police officer was sent by the CCP to murder her.

Three years have since passed and people still wonder about the incident.

    3. Ms. Li Recalls Her Persecution

After Ms. Li was forced to leave home and go from place to place in order to avoid arrest, she talked about her experiences of being persecuted during the past few years. She wanted to go online to reveal her experiences. The following is her account of what she had suffered while she was alive. The following is based on what Ms. Li recalled.

Li Shuyuan's health condition was very poor, but after she started practicing Falun Gong, she became very healthy. In 1999, when the CCP started the persecution of Falun Gong, she went to Beijing to appeal. She was then detained in Huludao City Police Station. While at the detention center, Ms. Li continued to do the Falun Gong exercises. Consequently, a warden with the surname Yu beat her with an electric baton and a club until bruises appeared all over her body and she had extreme difficulty moving. After that, Ms. Li went to Beijing to appeal to the government. Later, police officers from the Taijitun Township Police Station climbed over the wall to break into her home. They ransacked her home and extorted 1,500 yuan from her, without giving her a receipt.

On July 7, 2000, the local township police station detained Ms. Li in the Brainwashing Center. She was detained there for 28 days, during a hot summer. Ms. Li was detained along with 12 other practitioners, men and women, in a room measuring 15 square meters. The room was very hot. In the evenings, they had to lie down on the concrete floor. There were no beds or blankets. Their families were responsible for delivering meals to them. When harvesting season arrived, their families had so much harvesting work to do that they couldn't make time for delivering their meals. The practitioners must have suffered starvation. Sometimes, they were dragged to the ground to be burned under the sun. The Brainwashing Center officials shocked some practitioners with electric batons.

During the Chinese New Year of 2001, since the township government was afraid that Ms. Li would go to Beijing to appeal to the government, they sent Li Dehua and Yu Detian to Li Shuyuan's home, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. They went there to spy on Li Shuyuan to make sure that she was home. They spied on Li Shuyuan at her home for a week.

On June 11, 2001, Li Shuyuan went out of town to hand out flyers. She was reported and beaten at the Huangtukan Police Station. Then she was detained in the Nanpiao District Police Bureau. Because Ms. Li refused to reveal the source of the truth-clarification materials, she was struck several times in the face with a notebook by team leaders by with last names Shi and Wang. Li Shuyuan's face became swollen and deformed. Her mouth was broken to the point of festering and bleeding. Her chest was beaten so hard that every time she breathed, she felt tremendous pain. Her feet were kicked until bruises appeared. Yellow fluid came out of the bruises for over one week. After one month she was still in pain while walking. She was beaten from 2 o'clock in the afternoon until 11 p.m. Then she was sent to the Nanpiao Detention Center and then transferred to the Huludao Detention Center. On August 27, she was released.

On September 20, 2001, two police officers from Huangtukan Police Station went to Li Shuyuan's home and then detained her at the Nanpiao District Police station, where they sentenced her to a three-year sentence in a forced labor camp. They intended to send her to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. At that time, Li Shuyuan asked to appeal to the court. She was temporarily detained in the Nanpiao District Detention Center. On the sixth night, Li Shuyuan passed out. She was sent to the Nanpiao District Hospital. Later her family went to pick her up from the hospital. Police officers from the Nanpiao District Police Station and Huangtukan Police Station went to her home to try to arrest her. Afterwards, police officers from Huangtukan Police Station went to her home many times randomly try to arrest her again. So Li Shuyuan was forced to leave home and go from place to place.

Li Shuyuan, her husband, Liu Baoqiu, and her son Liu Yang were all leading a very stressful life. Their financial burden was also huge, because they suffered financial losses from being unable to maintain normal planting and harvesting. While traveling about, Li Shuyuan, afraid of being seen, would often return to and leave her home in secret.

Due to the persecution by the CCP, Li Shuyuan's family is very poor. Fellow villagers chipped in to pay for the funeral expenses. Li Shuyuan's home is a room with a low ceiling. It has a crack at the back wall. In the room there are a pair of storage bins and a table; there are no electric appliances. Every time Li Shuyuan is mentioned to her husband and son, they weep heavily.

    4. How Did Ms. Li Shuyuan Die?

How did Ms. Li Shuyuan die? The police removed her organs for a so-called "autopsy." Why is there no autopsy report? How come there was no investigation into her disappearance and death?

Ms. Li was murdered because she persisted in clarifying the truth to people about the beauty of Falun Gong and about the persecution under the CCP.

Additional Facts Surrounding the Murder of Wu Baowang, a Falun Gong Practitioner from Heilongjiang Province

Mr. Wu Baowang, from Qingling Township, Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province, made his living as a barber. He was a kind and honest person. He did not have any illnesses before his death.

At midnight on April 19, 2002, a copy of Zhuan Falun was found at Wu Baowang’s home and he was sent to the 2nd Detention Center in Shuangcheng City. As soon as Wu Baowang entered the cell, a criminal from Linjiang Township named Zhuzi, in his 30s, slapped him in the face.

May 13, 2002, was World Falun Gong Day. To celebrate World Falun Gong Day, Wu Baowang and other illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners shouted loudly, "Falun Dafa is Good! Falun Dafa is a righteous Fa! Restore the reputation of our Teacher! Release all Falun Gong practitioners!"

The police handcuffed Wu Baowang’s hands behind his back and asked instructor Huang Yanchen to give Wu a beating. Wu Baowang began a hunger strike to appeal against the persecution.

On the fourth day of Wu Baowang’s hunger strike, which was the morning of May 17, 2002, the police asked four criminals (Xiao Guang from Harbin, Panzi from Shuangcheng, Xiao Wei from Xixiang Township of Shuangcheng City, Lao Wang from Shuangcheng Township) with no medical knowledge to force feed Wu Baowang. The criminals dragged Wu Baowang out of the cell, pressed him against a bed and used all of their strength to push a tube down Wu Baowang’s nose. Then they poured high density salt water through the tube. While they force fed him, they beat him up and cursed at him. The police and prison doctor stood aside, as though they were watching a show, and did nothing on seeing Wu Baowang suffering and struggling.

After Wu Baowang was carried back to the cell, he began to vomit blood. He lost consciousness half an hour later. The prisoners asked for the prison doctor Liu Hongzhi. He said that nothing would happen and left. Later, with the request of many prisoners, police officer Li Huaixin gathered together the four criminals who force fed Wu Baowang and had them carry Wu out of the cell. On the way out, the criminals rammed Wu Baowang’s head against the cement wall. At around 4 p.m., Wu Baowang was carried back to the cell. He was still unconscious at that time. Policeman Li Huaixin said Wu Baowang was regaining consciousness. After 8 p.m., the prisoners requested to take a look at Wu again. Policeman Wang Jianwin and a policeman surnamed Na, took a look and asked the four criminals to send Wu Baowang to Shuangcheng Orthopedics Specialty Hospital. Wu Baowang passed away that night.

The next morning, Shuangcheng No. 2 Detention Center police invited the four criminals (Ma Chengjiu, LI Guanghui, Bing Guowei, and Zhuzi from Linjiang Township) into their office. The authorities forced them to say Wu Baowang died due to a heart attack.

Exposing Crimes Committed By Staff at the Xinjin Brainwashing Center in Sichuan Province

The Xinjin Brainwashing Center in Sichuan Province was built by the 610 offices of Sichuan Province and Chengdu City. The center was named "Chengdu City Rule-by-Law Education Center." It is located in Huaqiao Town, Xinjin County and was formally called the "Xinjin Rehabilitation Clinic." Practitioners who refuse to renounce Falun Gong are brought to this center from other brainwashing centers in Chengdu City. Sometimes, practitioners from areas outside of Chengdu are taken to this center. It is known that practitioners from the Leshan area were brought to this center by the provincial 610 Office.

Practitioner Mr. Xie Haifeng from Jiangxi Province was arrested and taken to the Chengdu City Detention Center by the national security bureau of Gaoxin area on June 19, 2005. He was transferred to the Xinjin Brainwashing Center after one month. His wife was close to giving birth to their child and was left without any help. Mr. Xie's family members do not know his whereabouts.

Mr. Xie Deqing, a Falun Gong practitioner from Chengdu City, was arrested and taken to the Xinjin Brainwashing Center. Xie's daughter-in-law was followed, monitored, and harassed by special agents from the national security bureau and died soon after Xie was abducted. Staff at the brainwashing center not only refused Xie's request to attend his daughter-in-law's funeral, but persecuted him even more viciously.

Three practitioners, including Lin Xiaoquan from Xindu District, Chengdu City, were taken to the Xinjin Brainwashing Center in 2005. They suffered cruel persecution at that place. National security agents cuffed each of them to a stool, interrogated them for many days, and deprived them of sleep. There were injuries all over their bodies. Lin suffered the most. Lin had difficulties in walking and had to hold on to the wall while walking slowly. All three were transferred to an unknown location. There were around 8 national security agents in charge of torturing the three practitioners. One of the torturers was a big man of about 6 feet tall.

There are six floors at Xinjin Brainwashing Center for holding practitioners. There is a large conference room on the first floor. The second floor is for isolating the most steadfast and strong-minded practitioners. Male practitioners are on the third floor. Offices are on the fourth floor and female practitioners are held on the fifth floor. There is an iron gate on the first floor that is always locked. Practitioners are held against their will. There are monitors in the hallways, stairways, bathrooms and lavatories. Monitors in the bathrooms and lavatories are invisible and their switches are controlled by sound. Monitors in the bedrooms are hidden inside televisions. Practitioners' every move is monitored. Some shameless male guards install the monitors where they can see female practitioners' private parts. These guards' ridicule female practitioners and laugh at them behind their backs.

Persecution Methods at the Xinjin Brainwashing Center

    1. Drugs

The "instructors" take food to practitioners' bedrooms. Practitioners are not allowed to get their own food. The purpose of this rule is so they can drug the food. The different kinds of drugs come either in liquid or powder form. They use different kinds of drugs for different practitioners. Generally they put drugs in water and regular meals, but sometimes they inject brainwashing drugs into particular foods or even fruits. Some "instructors" don't know that there are drugs in the food, but some know and aggressively participate in the persecution. The brainwashing center entices the "instructors" to participate in the persecution with special food and drink.

The drugs will take effect in about half an hour. The main symptoms are headaches, dizziness, protruding eyes, sleepiness (some practitioners feel sleepy after over 10 hours of sleep per day and are still lethargic) shortness of breath, chest pain and irritability.

On arrival, staff members from the 610 Office talk to each practitioner. If a practitioner claims that his/her high blood pressure was cured by the practice, the 610 Office people will put drugs into the practitioner's food that raises his/her blood pressure. After the practitioner eats the food, the staff would measure his/her blood pressure. They then use this information to shake practitioner's righteous thoughts for the purpose of "transforming" him/her.

This is the main reason why practitioners, after being held at a brainwashing center for a period of time, appear to be suffering and seriously ill.

    2. Deceiving Practitioners

Sometimes the guards pretend that they are provincial officials investigating the Falun Gong issue. They deceive practitioners into providing information. For example, if guards wanted to find out which practitioners in your local area was doing what, the guards would pretend to be an official from the procuratorate, national security department or public security department. They might use lies to threaten that one has done something seriously against the law, and if one refuses to "transform," one would be sentenced to over 10 years in prison. The guards would even station police cars at the practitioners' front door to scare them. For the younger practitioners, the guards would find young people of the opposite sex to "meticulously and passionately care for the practitioners" and lure the practitioners into "transforming."

    3. Humiliate Teacher and Destroy His Pictures

Guards Wang Hongqiang, Huang (first name unknown), and Xu (first name unknown), photocopied dozens of Teacher's pictures and wrote insulting words on the copies. They then put these pictures under practitioners' bed sheets. A few days later, the guards would remove the pictures in front of the practitioners and say, "Now, you see that your Teacher does not have fashen. Otherwise, why would His fashen not give you hints and tell you that you were sleeping on top of your Teacher?" Then the guards would deface Teacher's picture. When practitioners tried to stop them, they would tear up the pictures. Sometimes the guards would throw the torn pictures into the lavatory and ask practitioners to pick out every small piece. Then they made fun of the practitioners.

    4. Videos Defaming Falun Gong

Guards in the brainwashing center play videos that insult Falun Gong on TV every day. They also force practitioners to read fliers that defame Falun Gong. If practitioners refuse to read, guards read the defamatory information to the practitioners.

    5. Physical Torture

If the above methods couldn't make practitioners denounce Falun Gong, practitioners had to stand for prolonged periods of time. Other torture methods included sleep deprivation and beatings. If a practitioner remains firm throughout the previous tortures, six to seven ruffians brutally beat the practitioner and push him/her to the ground. Then they force the practitioner to put his/her finger-print onto a pre-written statement renouncing Falun Gong. These brutal people then tell the practitioner, "You won't "transform," so we help you gain a new understanding. Now you are "transformed!" We will publish your statement, with your name, address, and picture on Clearwisdom. You can no longer practice."

    6. The Brainwashing Center makes Illegal Profits Persecuting Practitioners

At any given time, there are on average about 20 practitioners illegally imprisoned in the Xinjin Brainwashing Center. But there are times when up to 40 practitioners are held at Xinjin. When practitioners are released, the center would ask higher level 610 Offices to pressure the local 610 Offices to bring these practitioners back to the center, so they would always meet their "quotas." Maintaining their quota translates into awards for them. "Transformed" practitioners were not released right away. They were observed for some time to "assure that they were really transformed." But, the actual reason was that they wanted to wait for the practitioners' workplace to pay for the living expenses for one more month. As soon as the fee was paid, the practitioners would be released immediately. When the practitioners' workplace sent someone to pick up the practitioner, the guards wanted him/her to buy them meals, drinks and provide entertainment. The so-called "instructors" are randomly selected from the persecuted practitioners' hometowns or workplaces. Some of them are jobless people. There are two instructors for each practitioner. The practitioners are monitored around the clock. The instructors earn between 600 and 800 yuan per month. Some of them get paid more. Every practitioner's family or workplace has to pay 2,500 yuan per month to the center, which includes the instructor's salary. Every time the center transforms a practitioner, it will receive a large reward. By the end of 2005, the brainwashing center had transformed 129 practitioners and received over 2 million yuan from practitioners' workplaces.

Mr. He Guoping Suffers Broken Rib from Police Brutality

Mr. He Guoping, a Falun Gong practitioner in Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province, was detained in different units, a police substation, a detention center, and a forced labor camp, and was also laid off. While in the detention center, he suffered a broken rib from police brutality and endured various other tortures.

Mr. He Guoping started practicing Falun Gong on March 12, 1996.

In September 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was detained in the Kunshan City detention center. One month later, he was released but still restricted to a small room by his employer, the Kunshan Transistor Factory, for nearly six months. Finally the factory laid him off solely because of his affiliation with Falun Gong. Since then he has had no source of income.

On the evening of December 12, 2000, police searched Mr. He and found the truth clarification flyer entitled Top Ten Crimes of Jiang Zemin. They took him to the Chengzhong Police Substation in Kunshan City, where they handcuffed him behind his back, and six police officers beat him from 7:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. the next day. When they stopped beating him, Mr. He was unconscious with a broken rib.

Because the police failed to get the confession they wanted, Mr. He was transferred to the detention center and sentenced to one year of forced labor on January 12, 2001, which he served in Dafeng Fangqiang Forced Labor Camp in Jiangsu Province.

On his second day at the forced labor camp, because he did not fulfill the labor quota, he was brutally beaten by the guard. In the middle of September that same year, all of the detained Falun Gong practitioners in the No. 1 Team where he was detained initiated a hunger strike to protest their illegal detention. Three days later, they were force-fed through the nose. Some of them lost a lot of blood during the forced-feeding.

On December 14, 2002, Mr. He was arrested again since he was discovered delivering Teacher’s new articles and distributing videotapes of truth clarification materials. One month later, he was sentenced to two years of forced labor once again in the Dafeng Forced Labor camp, where he experienced endless persecution. The camp authorities tried to force him to quit cultivation by brainwashing him day and night and torturing him both physically and psychologically in the name of "communication" and "learning."

In April 2003, the brainwashing was intensified. He wasn’t allowed to sleep until 1:00 or 2:00 or sometimes even 3:00 a.m. However, Mr. He was still steadfast and was therefore deprived of sleep and forced to stand for long periods. Once he was made to stand for several days without sleep until he finally fell to the ground when he could no longer stand up. He suffered edema from his toes to his calves as a result of this torture.

In July 2003, the forced labor camp launched a so-called "general attack" on practitioners. Popular camp tortures included beatings, enforced standing, enforced squatting, being insulated in the heat of summer, electric baton shocks, being whipped on the head, and stabbing the thigh with needles. After his rib was broken, the broken bone made a noise for two weeks. For six months after that, Mr. He suffered excruciating back pain and recovered only after he returned home on December 13, 2004.

Additional Information Regarding Mr. Lei Yangfan’s Arrest

On the afternoon of June 2, 2006, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Lei Yangfan, a resident of Changsha City, went to the Dongtang post office to mail letters, and was arrested by two policemen, Ou and Chen. At 11:00 p.m. policemen went to Mr. Lei Yangfan's parent's house at the regional government’s family housing where Mr. Lei lives. They searched the house but did not find anything. Later, Mr. Lei Yangfan was sent to Changsha City First Detention Center.

Mr. Lei Yangfan was previously employed by the Bank of China in Hunan Province, and considered by his colleagues to be a very good and virtuous person with a lot of talent. Mr. Lei went to Beijing twice to appeal for Falun Gong after the Chinese Communist Party began to persecute Falun Gong in 1999. He was detained several times and was dismissed by his employer.

In early 2000, Mr. Lei Yangfan attended a Falun Gong practitioners' experience sharing conference. Later he was arrested and sentenced to two years of forced labor by Changsha City CCP authorities. He was detained in Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp and tortured both physically and mentally. During this period his daughter Hanhan was born.

After he was released from the Xinkaiu Labor Camp, Mr. Lei’s entire family was finally reunited. His wife, Mrs. Zhou Pinjun (previously named Chen Guo), was then sentenced to seven years in prison because she practiced Falun Gong. She was detained in Changsha City Women's Prison. Hanhan was only six years old when she had to go live with her grandparents. A good family was persecuted and separated.
