  • Ms. Hu Xingyu from Sichuan Province, 78, Has Been Jailed Ten Times

Ms. Hu Xingyu, 78 years old, is from Shuitang Village, Panlian Town, Miyi County, Sichuan Province. She has been incarcerated ten times for practicing Falun Gong, once in a detention center for ten months, where she was forced to run and stand in a very uncomfortable position. She was also hung up. To try to frighten her, policemen once tied her up and forced her to stand, lined up with the death-penalty criminals when the criminals were executed.

Ms. Hu had many diseases before practicing Falun Gong. She was a lay Buddhist and used to live in a temple. Since she was ill, she had to go home for recovery. Later, somebody introduced Falun Gong to her. After practicing Falun Gong, all of her illnesses vanished.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999. Ms. Hu and other Falun Gong practitioners held a experience sharing conference in Binghaiba on October 27, 1999. They were reported and illegally arrested by policemen Xiang Jinfa, Yang Zihua, Zhou Lin, Liao Hongbin and Chai Faxiang. They were jailed in an office in the police department. It was very cold that night, and the practitioners were only wearing thin clothing. Police officer Chai Faxiang purposely opened the windows. Ms. Hu was very cold that night. She was released the next morning.

On November 20, 1999, Ms. Hu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. Department of Political Security Chief Xiang Jinfa fined her 200 yuan. In December 1999 she went to Beijing again, and was arrested and jailed in the police department for one month. A few days after her release, Deputy Mayor Wang Zhengming from Panlian Town and several other officials deceived her and placed her in a brainwashing center for further persecution. During a brainwashing session, policeman Chen Youjun made Ms. Hu clean the street. In the daytime she was forced to read a lot of articles slandering Falun Gong and the founder. Policemen from Panzhihua, Zhang Bolin and Liu, and a police officer from Miyi, Xiang Jinfa, came to the brainwashing center to monitor Hu Xingyu. Ms. Hu was tortured for more than ten days. The Panlian Town government officials took away her rights to her agricultural field. Her son had to pay them one hundred yuan to get the land back.

In July 2000, the chief of Shuitang Village Xu Chaoyou and a person named Yang Tinghe held a series of brainwashing sessions to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Practitioners had to run in circles for one hour every morning and afternoon. After running, they were forced to stand for another hour. Xu Chaoyou watched them. Ms. Hu was too old to keep up, yet Xu Chaoyou still forced her to run. In the daytime, the policemen forced the practitioners to read a lot of articles that slandered Falun Gong and the founder. They made Ms. Hu stay awake for two whole days. Since Ms. Hu refused to sign a "guarantee statement", she was sent to a brainwashing center in Panlian Town, where she was forced to run in circles and remain standing for long periods of time. She was forbidden to sleep or lie down for two days. She could only crouch or stand. Police officer Chen Youjun forced Ms. Hu to clean the street. She was jailed in the brainwashing center for three days and fined 300 yuan.

On December 14, 2000 Ms. Hu placed some posters in public places, which clarified the truth about Falun Gong. On December 17, policemen Yang Zihua, Rao Xianwen, Li Xuesong and Chai Faxiang went to Ms. Hu's house and took her away. While in the police department, Ms. Hu was locked in the hallway for one hour. Policemen forced her to stand in a very uncomfortable position during the interrogation. Chai Faxiang struck her in the head and pulled on her ears. The policemen took off Ms. Hu's coat and directed two fans, blowing cold air, at her. Chai Faxiang, Xiang Jinfa and a policeman from the county hung Ms. Hu up for over half an hour so that her feet could barely touch the ground. They did not give Ms. Hu any water to drink. Chai Faxiang locked her in a cold cell for a night. Every day, policemen Yang Zihua and Zhou Lin subjected Ms. Hu to interrogation.

Before the 2001 New Year, policemen tied up all the Falun Gong practitioners and took them to a place where the death-penalty criminals were executed. To Falun Gong practitioners, the policemen forced them to line up with the death-penalty criminals when they were being executed.

Ms. Hu was held in the detention center for ten months. Because she persisted in doing the Falun Gong exercises, political heads Liu Qizhao, Lin Hai, Hao Wanfa, Fu Wenhui, Peng Yongchun, Chief Wu Xueming and Deputy Chief Zhu Chenglong locked her up, pushed her against a wall and kicked her. Wu Xueming and Lin Hai tortured Ms. Hu in this manner twice and each time, the torture lasted 30 minutes. Wu Xueming and Lin Hai locked her up five times when she tried to do the exercises. Sometimes she was locked for three days, and sometimes for one week.

On October 5, 2002, policemen Xiang Jinfa, Yang Zihua, Zhou Lin, Li Xuesong and Rao Xianwen searched Hu Xingyu's house and harassed her, since the CCP's 16th Party Congress was in session. Ms. Hu opted to leave home to avoid further persecution. The policemen searched for her in Xichang, Dechang and Huidong, and arrested her and other practitioners in Huili. In Huili, policemen Zhou Lin and Zhao tied Ms. Hu up and took her away through a remote secret channel in order to avoid being seen by public. They jailed Ms. Hu in a police station for two days. Chai took away 842 yuan that she had on her. On October 7, Xiang Jinfa, Yang Zihua, Zhou Lin, Li Xuesong, Rao Xianwen and Zhao took Ms. Hu back to Miyi County. In the police van, her hands were handcuffed, and her feet were shackled. Because of the motion inside the police van, she got very carsick and she vomited. They had not given her any food since the arrest on October 5. Hu Xingyu was incarcerated in the Miyi County Detention Center for one month.

On June 20, 2003, Falun Gong practitioners from Miyi County held an experience sharing conference by a river in Salian. Since the policemen learned about the conference beforehand, they stopped a lot of practitioners on a bridge. Only about 60 practitioners were able to attend the conference. The Salian Town police chief Tao Chunyun reported the conference to his supervisors. Many policemen, including officers from Panzhihua City, were sent to the conference site, where they beat the practitioners. Practitioner Zeng Guozhong was beaten badly. His shirt was torn and he was pushed into the 12-foot deep river. Policemen took practitioners' umbrellas and beat them with them. Tao Chunyun was directing the beating. Policemen dragged practitioners to the road and beat them there. Four police officers carried practitioner Song Chenghui to the road. Practitioner Zhou Shenghui was also beaten badly. The policemen arrested more than ten practitioners that day.

The practitioners tried to stop the policemen from beating people. Dozens of armed policemen arrived. During the two-hour-long conflict, the traffic was not blocked. The policemen eventually blocked the traffic and stopped all the cars. They videotaped the traffic jam and claimed that it was Falun Gong practitioners who were blocking the traffic. The TV news in Miyi County broadcast this slander that night. Actually, the truth was that policemen had dragged practitioners onto the road and stopped all the cars.

Seven practitioners were sentenced to labor camps. Zhou Shenghui was sentenced to eight years; Song Chenghui was sentenced to four years; Wang Yuanpin, three-and-a-half years; Zhang Hongyin, four years; Zhang Zhenghuan, four years; Zhuang Delin, three-and-a-half years; Li Yinqi, three years. Many practitioners were jailed in the detention center for one month. Ms. Hu and seven other practitioners were taken to the Panlian Town City Hall by the leaders of the CCP Committee in Panlian, Yan Jiqing and Wang Zhengming. The officials verbally abused them for half a day before they were released.

In December 2003 Ms. Hu was again arrested, in Salian Town. She was jailed in the Binggu Police Station. Policeman Yang Zihua sent Ms. Hu to a detention center. She was held for one month and forced to pay a 200-yuan fine.

In December 2004, Yang Zihua and Zhou Lin searched Ms. Hu's house. They took a set of Falun Gong cassettes and jailed her in the detention center for one month, and forced her to pay a 400-yuan fine.

On November 4, 2005, the directors of National Security Team, Yang Zihua, Li Xuesong and several agents from the Panlian Police Department illegally searched Ms. Hu's house again. They took away a copy of Zhuan Falun, cassettes, a DVD player, a CD player, Master Li Hongzhi's portrait, some VCDs and 2,000 yuan in cash. Ms. Hu was jailed in the Chengguan Police Station. Policeman Tao Gang shackled her to the legs of a table in an uncomfortable position. She could not sit down or stand up, which made her feet hurt badly for several months. The policemen opened all the windows, letting the cold wind blow on her. They kept Ms. Hu incarcerated for one month, and they never returned the money they extorted from her.

Police Brutally Torture Five Falun Gong Practitioners, Young Woman Is in Life-Threatening Condition

In early 2006, practitioners in Babaishang of Daqing City hung up a 10-meter-long banner reading, "Falun Dafa is good." Consequently, the local police rampantly arrested practitioners in this region. Zhou Guilan, a widow who lived by herself, was tied to a metal chair and tortured for four days and four nights during interrogation. Ms. Sui Yumin, a young woman in her 20's, was also brutally tortured.

Widow Zhou Guilan tied to a metal chair and tortured for four days and four nights during interrogation

On February 26, 2006, police from the Daqing Police Department and the Babaishang Police Station illegally arrested practitioner Ms. Zhou Guilan, who is over 60 years and living by herself. Inside the Babaishang Police Station, police from Daqing City tied her to a metal chair for three days and three nights. When her children came to visit her, both times she was handcuffed to the chair. Later, police left Ms. Zhou in Group 5, which has no inmates. Twenty days later, she was detained in cell #403, followed by brutal torture for four more days and nights in the metal chair.

    Three more practitioners arrested

In the afternoon of March 24, police in Daqing City arrested practitioners Zhang Jingqi (a teacher in the No. 65 Middle School) and Xuan Guoying (a staff member

    Zhang Jingqi brutally tortured

The police tortured practitioner Mr. Zhang Jingqi for five days and five nights, shackling him to a metal chair while depriving him of sleep and food. They also covered Mr. Zhang's head with multiple layers of plastic bags, and did not loosen them until he almost lost consciousness. They also covered Mr. Zhang's mouth with a cotton mask soaked with a large amount of a pungent smelling liquid and later said, "Wow, Mr. Zhang is great! He can inhale two bottles [of the pungent liquid] in such a short time." During the interrogation and torture of Mr. Zhang, some sounds like beating were also heard at midnight near Babaishang Police Station. Five days later, he was sent to the Longfeng Police Station. He was so skinny that others could hardly recognize him.

The police also arrested practitioner Li Zongtai, who is over 50 years old. They sent him to Suihua Labor Camp for further persecution, but the labor camp did not accept him due to poor physical health. They had no choice but to

Young woman in her 20's in life-threatening condition

The police also arrested Sui Yumin, a woman in her 20's. Ms. Sui has had weak health and many illnesses since early childhood. After practicing Falun Gong, her health recovered, and she has remained healthy ever since. A group of male plainclothes policemen went to Ms. Sui's place at night, where she lives by herself. They stayed in Ms. Sui's home the entire night, and confiscated her belongings in the room. The police stole her several years of savings (4,000 yuan) and then denied it: "Couldn't the money have been stolen by some thief?"

After confiscating Ms. Sui's belongings, the police stuffed them into a minivan and took Ms. Sui to the Babaishang Police Station. Upon arriving there, they shackled her to a metal chair and handcuffed both of her hands behind her back. In the afternoon, the police started to interrogate and torture her, but Ms. Sui did not tell them anything. An officer surnamed Huang from the Daqing Police Department said, "We have many ways to handle you. Even if you die, no injuries will be found and we will claim you had a heart attack." Then he and another police officer picked up plastic bags and covered Ms. Sui's head with several layers of plastic bags. Another police officer closed the open end of the plastic bags tightly. They did not loosen the bags until seeing Ms. Sui almost lose consciousness and both of her hands had turned purple. The police officer said, "We have gotten approval from the police station head, and will continue doing this [covering your head] as long as you keep your mouth shut. If you die, it will be attributed to a heart attack."

Later, the police also covered Ms. Sui's mouth with a big mask that had absorbed a large amount of a pungent smelling liquid. They also physically tortured her. When Ms. Sui was physically and mentally exhausted, two plainclothes police officers (one male and one female) used Buddhist theory to threaten and deceive her. However, Ms. Sui did not yield.

After being brutally tortured for two days and one night, Ms. Sui was sent to the city detention center, where she and Zhou Guilan both went on a hunger strike to protest their illegal arrest and detention. Detention center doctors surnamed Qi and Yu brutally force-fed them twice a day. Every time, the inmates manhandled her and her clothes were torn in the process. During the force-feeding, Ms. Sui's nose bled because of tube insertion. She also had diarrhea all the time. However, the detention center official did not care and continued with the force-feeding.

In the past month, Ms. Sui has become very pale, has been vomiting blood, and is sometimes in a coma. A detention center official notified a Babaishang Police Station official, who sent Ms. Sui to the hospital for a checkup. When the nurse there heard that Ms. Sui was brutally force-fed twice a day, she said, "Isn't it crazy? The stomach will be severely damaged in this way." After seeing both of Ms Sui's eyes congested and seeing that her life was in danger, in order to shirk their responsibility, a Babaishang Police Station official asked Ms. Sui's family to bail her out with 10,000 yuan. Both of Ms. Sui's parents had been sent to a labor camp because of practicing Falun Gong. Her mother was still in the labor camp, and her father had just been released and could not afford the extortion money. The police did not want to wait and asked her father to carry her back. The next morning, they went to Ms. Sui's home to demand the money, and saw that she was still in a life-threatening condition. The police hurriedly had her family member sign the medical bail release, and left with the signed document.

Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Huang Kuixi, in His 60's, Brutally Persecuted at Yinmahe Labor Camp

On May 13, 2004, Mr. Huang Kuixi, who is in his 60's, and his wife Ms. Chi were arrested again by the police from Beishan Police Station in Yanji City. They were illegally sentenced to 1 year of forced labor after being detained for 38 days at the Yanji Detention Center. Mr. Huang Kuixi was transferred to the Yinmahe Labor Camp in Jiutai City.

The guards in the Yinmahe Labor Camp hire groups of criminals to torture and even beat practitioners to death. The labor camp uses criminals to try to "transform" the practitioners. If a criminal "transforms" a Falun Gong practitioner, guards will reduce his detention period by 3 days. If a criminal beats a Falun Gong practitioner to death, it is not considered murder and is reported to the superior department as a natural death. Some criminals also participate in the persecution of practitioners in order to reduce their detention period. The labor camp also rotates these criminals to persecute practitioners.

Mr. Huang Kuixi suffered from all kinds of tortures and severe beating. When he first arrived at the labor camp, the guards pressured Mr. Huang Kuixi to write the so-called "statement to break away [from Falun Gong]". When Mr. Huang Kuixi refused to do so, seven or eight young and strong guards tied up Mr. Huang Kuixi's arms behind his back, pressed him down to the ground, stepped on his body and beat him mercilessly. Mr. Huang Kuixi shouted loudly, "I am a 66-year-old senior citizen and it is wrong for you to do this. Jiang Zemin is the traitor of our country and you will not come to a good end if you follow him." These guards and criminals would not talk about any principles and continued torturing Mr. Huang Kuixi. They didn't allow Mr. Huang to sleep for 6 days and nights and only gave him 4 pieces of coarse bread to eat and cold water to drink each day.

In such a bad environment, many Falun Gong practitioners had diarrhea. The guards used this as an excuse to forcibly give toxic injections to practitioners. After practitioners were given an injection, they would become listless and lack energy.

The guards also forced Huang Kuixi to sit on a board for 18 hours per day, from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m., during which time, if Mr. Huang moved his feet slightly, he would be pressured to write a pledge to give up his practice of Falun Gong. If he refused, he would be beaten mercilessly. Huang Kuixi was forced to sit on a board for 6 months. This treatment caused his buttocks to fester. He even had difficulty taking off his trousers because pus from the festered area caused his trousers to stick to his body. During this period, guards burned Mr. Huang with cigarettes 4-5 times.

In Yinmahe Labor Camp, the night guards locked the door after 10 p.m. and then started to beat determined Falun Gong practitioners mercilessly. They also used other torture methods on practitioners. In early November of 2004, Falun Gong practitioner Wang Lianfu dropped a bottle on the ground, and several days later this practitioner was beaten to death. Another Falun Gong practitioner's face was injured by torture instruments so severely that his face was all wrapped up with bandages. Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Moulin refused to eat and drink in the "strict control" team located on level 5. They didn't allow Mr. Wang to use the toilet, forcing him to urinate and defecate in his trousers. Some practitioners were tortured to death by this team for refusing to write the pledge. All kinds of brutal methods are used to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. On April 22, 2005, Mr. Huang Kuixi was finally released.

The following are some units that participated in the persecution: Yanji City Police Department, National Security Defense Team of Yanji City, Yanji Detention Center, Yinmahe Labor Camp and Beishan Police Station.

I Was Forced to Squat for a Year and Deprived of Sleep for A Month in Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp

The police guards Bian Shuqiang, Zhang Li, and Dong Xinguo from the 2nd Squadron of the 2nd Group utilized various methods to fiendishly persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

Ailing practitioner Mr. Wang Hongbin from Shijiazhuang remained steadfast in his practice. He helped more than 30 practitioners to know the true nature of the evil CCP (Chinese Communist Party). With his help, those practitioners made void the "four statements" they had previously signed under the evil persecution and deceit. Bian Shuqiang and other guards used inhuman and cruel physical punishment to torture Mr. Wang and the other practitioners. Mr. Wang was unable to regain his health and eventually passed away.

Practitioner Mr. Wei Chaozong from Cangzhou was detained in the 2nd Squadron of the 2nd Group, where he suffered from various kinds of inhuman and savage tortures. He was forced to squat the whole time. The long-term tortures damaged his internal organs. He was unable to eat or drink. Bian Shuqiang and some other guards took Mr. Wei out of the labor camp. He died the very next day. Bian and his gang then fabricated a false cause of death for Mr. Wei, intending to shirk their responsibility for the murder.

I suffered the same kind of tortures in the 2nd Squadron of the 2nd Group. I was forced to stay awake for 24 hours. For nearly a year I was forced to constantly squat. One prison guard afterwards told me, "I absolutely did not believe that you would survive. At that moment, your physical appearance was totally non-human. The police said that they at least would take one of your legs." They did not allow me to drink anything, and my tongue was as stiff as a rod. I could not speak. After that, my tongue shed a layer of skin. When I was extremely sleepy, the prison guards would brutally beat me and smear hot pepper water into my eyes.

In May 2006,  Shulan City National Security Group in Jilin Province illegally arrested six Falun Gong practitioners including Zhao Yongcai, Yao Yuguo, Liu Dongmei, and Liu Lifen, causing their families tremendous harm. The families went to the National Security Group and asked for their release. The police refused to let them meet with the practitioners. According to an insider, Li Jiazhe, the National Security Group head and others tortured the practitioners and caused them permanent injuries, which is why they are strictly blocking information and stonewalling the families' requests to meet with the practitioners.

Five Practitioners Died in Chongqing, Hunan, Shandong, and Jilin Provinces as a Result of Persecution

Ms. Zhong Yunzhen, 57 years old, was a resident of Tongliang County, Chongqing City. The Chinese Communist Party had persecuted her for extended periods of time ever since April 25, 1999. Local police had arrested her three times. She had been illegally detained for as long as six months. The shortest detention period was a little under a month. Her health rapidly deteriorated during detention. Ms. Zhong displayed symptoms of chronic cough and exhaustion. Despite her deteriorating health, the secret agents sent by the CCP continued to monitor and harass her. In the middle of the night on April 25, 2006, the police and Party secretary of the residents' committee barged into her house to harass her. Ms. Zhong's health was then so bad that she was unable to take care of daily activities. Ms. Zhong Yunzhen passed away on May 11, 2006.

Ms. Li Daying, 50 years old, was a practitioner from Liyang Town in Li County, Hunan Province. Her whole family were Falun Gong practitioners. In November 1999, her entire family went to Beijing to appeal and clarify the facts about Falun Gong. Later her son was compelled to go from place to place to avoid the persecution. In January of 2001, Ms. Li was arrested and sent to a brainwashing center by the county political and judiciary committee, the 610 Office and police from the detention center. She was subject to brainwash and torture. In March 2001, the police found out from the Changsha Women's Prison that Ms. Li knew her son's whereabouts, so they transferred her to the detention center. They hung her up and beat her cruelly. The beatings made her incontinent. She fainted and went into convulsions at the brainwashing center. She suffered tremendous mental and physical torture. In June 2001, after she returned home, the police, 610 Office agents, National Security Officers, and personnel from the Political and Judiciary Committee frequently came to her residence to harass, threaten, and arrest people. Ms. Li Daying died on April 22, 2004.

Mr. Pei Chunguang, 74 years old, was a practitioner from Weifang City, Shandong Province. He suffered from many illnesses before practicing Falun Gong. He suffered from sciatica pain and protruding spinal discs and could not stand. After practicing in Falun Gong beginning in 1995, all of his illnesses disappeared. In May 1999 he went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. Along the way police arrested him and sent him to a stadium to be detained for two days. Then he was sent to a suburban guest house and detained. After people from his place of employment came to fetch him, they continued to illegally detain him and also threatened and fined him. After he was released, the personnel from his place of work frequently came to his house to harass him. He became nervous and afraid and had a relapse of sciatic pain and became paralyzed. Mr. Pei was unable to take care of his daily activities and passed away on February 4, 2006.

Mr. Liu Wensheng was a practitioner from Haihua Town in Weifang City, Shandong Province. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1997 and received physical and spiritual benefits. Officials arrested him in 2000 when he was practicing the exercises at a man-made lake. He was detained and persecuted, but he persisted in Falun Gong practice after he was released. At around 1:00 a.m. one day in January 2002, four persons from the Haihua Town police precinct once again arrested him and took him from his residence. All of his Falun Gong literature and books were confiscated. He was cruelly beaten. The police threatened his daughter and attempted to make her monitor her father to make sure he did not practice the exercises. His daughter refused. She was also cruelly beaten. Under continual persecution and pressure by the personnel from Chinese Communist Party agents, Mr. Liu gave up practicing Falun Gong. He suffered much from mental and physical persecution. He passed away in August 2002.

Ms. Sun Shuqing, 71 years old, was a practitioner from Songjiang Township in Jiaohe City, Jilin Province. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1996 and various illnesses that she used to suffer from disappeared. After July 20, 1999, personnel from the local police station frequently harassed her. In early May 2002 she was detained for half a month. Her son was sent to a forced labor camp for two years. Ms. Sun was so worried that she fell ill and died on May 23, 2006

The Persecution in Tianzhu County, Guizhou Province - belated information

[Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the Minghui.org website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).]

The persecution of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Chen Zaixian

On August 6, 2002, Wu Zhanping, a police officer from Tianzhu Police Department, deceived practitioner Ms. Chen Zaixian at work. He told her to come to the Tianzhu Police Department. The police tried to illegally sentence her to two years of forced labor. Her family asked for her and took her home on medical parole, but the family was made to pay 3,000 yuan in extortion money. She was held for nearly 40 days.

On the morning of June 5, 2003, a group of police officers headed by Long Buwen broke into Ms. Chen's home and arrested her. After detaining her for over a month, they shackled her and took her to Zhongba Women's Labor Camp in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province. The arrest was carried out by Yang Shundeng, deputy head of the county police department; political head Yang Changliang; and several other officers.

During her incarceration at the Zhongba Women's Labor Camp in Guiyang City, Gu Xinying and group head Li Jianming ordered six inmates to forbid Ms. Chen from sleeping, drinking water, going to the restroom, or washing herself. They forced her to work for 18 hours a day and sometimes even 24 hours a day. In the summer they made her stand outside in the blistering heat without moving for 17 to 19 hours a day. In the winter they compelled her to stand in the snow for extended periods of time, which caused ulcerated, pus-filled lesions on her buttocks.

On February 12, 2006, Ms. Chen Zaixian went to Yuankou Town to clarify the truth and was reported. The local police extorted 1,000 yuan from her.

On June 6, 2002, the county government unlawfully detained practitioners Huang Juying and Long Sue for 15 days.

Persecution of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang Xiaohan

On July 7, 2002, police from Tianzhu County ransacked practitioner Ms. Yang Xiaohan's home. Officers Wu Zhanping and others took 150 yuan and Falun Gong books from Ms. Yang. They detained her for 18 days and sentenced her to three years in prison. She was savagely tortured at the Zhongba Forced Labor Camp in Guiyang City. The authorities subjected her to brainwashing and made her stand for very long periods of time. She was forced to work for 18 hours to 20 hours a day.

Persecution of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Gan Gongyu

After July 20, 1999, officers from the Tianzhu County Police Department arrested Ms. Gan Gongyu and interrogated her for three days. They also ransacked her home.

In April 2002, Ms. Gan was again arrested and sent to the Tianzhu Police Department. Officers Long Buwen, Pan Nianhai and others intimidated and harassed her many times and forbade her to practice Falun Gong.

In June 2002, Long Buwen and many other police officers went to Ms. Gan's home to arrest her again. She left home to avoid further persecution. The police threatened her family. In 2003, she returned home. Law enforcement officers Long Buwen, Yang Cheng, Yang Changliang and others pounded on her door and arrested her again. They detained Ms. Gan for one month and then sentenced her to three years of forced labor. They also extorted 2,000 yuan from her family.

Ms. Gan was brutally tortured during her incarceration at the labor camp. She was forbidden to speak or use the toilet and was on the brink of death. They police released her after extorting more than 20,000 yuan from her son.

On January 15, 2006, of the Chinese lunar calendar, Ms. Gan Gongyu and fellow practitioners went to Yuankou Town to clarify the truth and were reported. Long Xianwu and Liu Mingxing, police officers from Yuankou Town, extorted 1,000 yuan from them and took their truth clarification materials.

In May 2006, officers from Tianzhu Police Department extorted yet another 1,000 yuan from Ms. Gan and another 3,000 yuan in "guarantee money" because she had distributed truth clarification materials in Yuankou Town.
