  • Continuing Focus on the Rape of Falun Gong Practitioners in Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province; Exposing the Villainous Nature of the CCP

    Minghui correspondent He Yu reports:

Over two months ago, on November 25, 2005, police officer He Xuejian raped two female Falun Gong practitioners inside the Dongchengfang Police Station in Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province. The international community has strongly condemned this crime; yet the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) ignored public outrage and threatened the victims and the witnesses in an attempt to silence them. After the victims and the witnesses left home to avoid near certain arrest, Hebei Province Police Department agents posted a 100,000 yuan reward for their capture. CCP agents have illegally arrested more than ten practitioners in Beijing and Zhuozhou who helped the victims and helped to expose the crime publicly. This at a time when the CCP boasts, "Right now is the best human rights situation in China's history."

    1. Summary of the Rape Incident

Two rapes took place inside the police station in broad daylight

The evening of November 24, 2005, even while Manfred Nowak, the UN Rapporteur on Torture was conducting his investigation in China, agents from the CCP committed a human rights outrage.

Police officer He Xuejian later raped two Falun Gong practitioners inside the Dongchengfang Police Station. The victims are 51-year-old Ms. Liu Jizhi and 42-year-old Ms. Han Yuzhi.

The rapes happened not long after the officials listed here violated the Chinese constitution, breaking into the homes of Falun Gong practitioners Liu Jizhi, Han Yuting, Qu Wenting, Wang Helin, Wei Baoliang and several others, and arresting them. The officials: Song Xiaobin, secretary of the Political Legal Committee for Dongchengfang Town in Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province, with Chai Yuqiao, director of the Comprehensive Administration Office, Political head Xing (first name unknown) and police chief Chu Chunshui from the Dongchengfang Police Station.

Dongchengfang Police Station in Zhuozhou City

At 8:00 p.m. on November 24, 2005, a group of evildoers wearing police uniforms and carrying police batons climbed over walls into Falun Gong practitioners' yard and broke into the practitioners' homes. They had no search-and-seizure warrants, but ransacked the homes anyway. They took the practitioners to the Dongchengfang Police Station. Officers Xing, He Xuejian, Wang Zengjun and others tortured and interrogated the practitioners at night.

Political head Xing, policeman He Xuejian and another officer interrogated Liu Jizhi. They asked, "How many people are practicing Falun Gong in your village?" When Liu Jizhi replied, "I don't know," the police immediately jumped up and beat her cruelly. They also made her squat, with her arms stretched out in front of her chest. Then they beat her with electric batons and nightsticks, forced her to stand up with her knees slightly bent, as shown in the top middle re-enactment photograph. While she was in that position, they kicked her from behind and made her collapse to the ground. After repeated physical abuse, Ms. Liu's hips, thighs and many other areas on her body were severely bruised and injured. He Xuejian even groped her and asked her in a lewd manner, "Do you think I am being a rogue?"

Liu Jizhi is beaten and raped; her buttocks and legs badly bruised

Around 2:00 p.m. on November 25, 2005, policeman He Xuejian took Liu Jizhi to another room in the police station. Policeman Wang Zengjun was lying on one of the beds. Wang Huiqi from the 610 Office was also in the room. He Xuejian savagely beat Liu Jizhi with a rubber police baton as soon as they entered the room. Next, he pressed her against a bed, lifted her blouse and shocked her breasts with an electric baton. While watching the sparks from the baton, He Xuejian repeatedly commented, "This is fun! This is fun!" During the process, policeman Wang Huiqi watched and saw He Xuejian tear off her clothes, disregarding her struggles. Before leaving, he even said, "Beat her up! Beat her up good!" While struggling, Liu Jizhi pleaded, "I am asking this for your own good--don't do this to me! You are a police officer! You must not commit such a crime! This is totally wrong! You are a young man! I am an old woman. Please, spare me!" Despite Liu Jizhi's plea and struggle, He Xuejian savagely slapped her face, ruthlessly pinched her neck, and raped her. Meanwhile, policeman Wang Zengjun watched quietly. He turned a few times on the bed, but did nothing to stop the assault.

After that, He Xuejian called 42-year-old Han Yuzhi inside the room and raped her in front of Wang Zengjun.

Later in the evening, He Xuejian tried to rape Liu Jizhi and Qu Wenting, but he failed because all Falun Gong practitioners resisted him.

On November 26, each of the families of the detained practitioners was required to give 3,000 yuan to the police. They took their devastated loved ones home after submitting the money.

    The Victims and the Witness

Liu Jizhi and her husband Wei Xiliang have two daughters. Before Liu Jizhi started practicing Falun Gong in 1999, she suffered from several illnesses. She was particularly tormented by a lumbar disc protrusion. As a result, she was bedridden and had a bad temper. In 1999 she was able to do housework after having practiced Falun Gong for one month. Eventually, all of her chronic illnesses disappeared and, in addition to the housework she could work in the field. Her family became very happy and harmonious. Her husband also started practicing Falun Gong after seeing the tremendous changes in her.

Before she started practicing Falun Gong, 52-year-old Wu Wenting suffered from many illnesses and was bedridden. Angina and spinal disc protrusion caused her the most pain. Sometimes her family spent more than 1,000 yuan a month for her medical bills, and almost all of the money her husband earned was spent on medications. She lived in anguish, had a bad temper and often had conflicts with her family. She tried many times to commit suicide, but her husband begged her, "You can't die! Our children have to have a mother!" She struggled and struggled. Falun Gong practitioners who lived in the same village asked her to practice and listen to Mr. Li Hongzhi's lectures. She accepted their suggestions; afterwards she was able to walk around and do house chores. Her temperament improved as her health improved, and her family became harmonious. She often says Falun Gong and Teacher gave her a second life.

53-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Wang Helin said, "I had rheumatism and rheumatoid arthritis for more than twenty years before I started practicing Falun Gong in 1999. Only a few months later, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. I was frightened. Because I hadn't practiced for a long time, I stopped practicing. After a while I thought it over carefully and came to the conclusion that stopping my Falun Gong practice was wrong. There were 100 million practitioners in the country; how could all these people be deceived? My health had improved dramatically upon practicing Falun Gong, and my Teacher is very righteous. I started practicing again. I have not needed any medicine in the past six years because I have been very healthy."

These villagers benefited physically and mentally from Falun Gong practice and are well liked for their kindness and integrity. After the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, however, peace became a luxury for them, as agents from the Dongchengfang Town government and from the police station frequently harassed and otherwise persecuted them. They were often arrested, tortured, extorted large sums of money, and the Communist officials refused to release them if they didn't get the money. They claimed, "If you still practice Falun Gong, we will fine you until you are penniless!"

Liu Jizhi was devastated after the rape and thought about killing herself, but Falun Gong's requirements forbidding suicide preserved her life. She said, "I'm a chaste woman, and I have parents and children. Now, how can I bear to face people? If it wasn't for Teacher saying that suicide is a sin I would have left this world already." She was the first one to courageously step forward to expose the crime, so other women might be spared the devastation. She called for support from kind-hearted people around the world, and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

    Conspiracy Behind the Arrest

Why did Song Xiaobin, Chai Yuqiao, Zhu Chunshui and Xing plan the arrest of Falun Gong practitioners? After a meeting held by Hebei Province "610 Office" took place in Zhuozhou City in early November, they wanted to extort money and use it to bribe their superiors in hopes of earning their favor and subsequently, promotion.

When interrogating the practitioners the police asked, "Who else practices Falun Gong in your village? Who practices Falun Gong in other villages?" They threatened the practitioners with torture if they didn't reveal the names of ten other practitioners. It's obvious that they not only wanted to arrest more practitioners in Xizhuan Village, but they also planned to arrest practitioners in dozens of villages in the surrounding area. In fact, after the arrests took place in Xizhuan Village on November 24, these people returned the next day to arrest more citizens. The arrest of these five practitioners was only the first step in these extortionists moneymaking scheme.

Receipts of illegal fines imposed on Liu Jizhi, Han Yuzhi and other Falun Gong practitioners by agents at the Dongchengfang Police Station in Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province. The receipts read, "Nanma Base Training Fee."

We can clearly see from these receipts that were issued on November 27, that the fine is imposed in the name of "Nanma Base Training Fee," and the receipts feature an official stamp that reads "Comprehensive Administration Office" headed by Chai Yuqiao.

In actuality, each Falun Gong practitioner who was sent to the Nanma Brainwashing Base, a brainwashing center in Baoding City, was extorted 4,000 yuan, not 3,000 yuan as stated on the receipts. The Dongchengfang Town Politics and Law Committee lawbreakers and the Comprehensive Administration Office agents do not have the authority to send Falun Gong practitioners to the Nanma Brainwashing Center in Baoding City; furthermore, they cannot charge money disguising it as a brainwashing "training fee." Only Zhuozhou City "610 Office" agents have the authority, no matter how illegal, to send people to the Nanma Brainwashing Base. Song Xiaobin, Chai Yuqiao and others persecute Falun Gong for purely greedy reasons, by charging "fines" that they then pocket for their own use. For them the persecution is merely a money-making opportunity.

As stated above, each of the families of the arrested practitioners borrowed and scraped together 3,000 yuan and gave it to Song Xiaobin, secretary of the Politics and Law Committee and Xing, political head from the Police Station. Only then could they take their devastated family members home.

3,000 yuan represents the annual total income for a peasant of Dongchengfang Town! In the past several years, Zhuozhou City government agents often imposed fines on Falun Gong practitioners. One practitioner in Zhuozhou City was extorted a total of 48,000 yuan over the past few years. Adding his salary, which was cut off after the persecution began, he lost more than 100,000 yuan in total. Li Jizhi, Han Yuzhi and other victims were also extorted money many times.

After the rape was exposed, Song Xiaobin and other criminals demanded the practitioners' families to return the receipts issued for the fines and tried to silence them by promising to return the 3,000 yuan. Meanwhile they claimed, "The stamp on the receipt is wrong; the police station imposed the fine and it has nothing to do with us."

From a legal perspective, Song Xiaobin is the chief responsible official in the arrest of Falun Gong practitioners. Song Xiaobin planned and carried out this illegal arrest, together with Chai Yuqiao, head of the Comprehensive Administration Office, officer Xing and chief Chu Chunshui from the Dongchengfang Police Station. They are indirectly responsible for the rape.

    2. Rape Incident Follow-up

In seeking justice, victims forced to live in exile

After learning that a police officer had raped his wife in broad daylight, Han Yuzhi's husband Liu Jianzeng took his wife's underwear and the bed sheet he had snatched from the police station as evidence to the Zhuozhou City Police Department. He vowed to demand justice for his wife, even if the price was his own life.

The Zhuozhou City Police Department head asked him not to spread the information and agreed to return the 3,000 yuan to Liu Jianzeng (he did not keep this promise!) Quickly, the Communist regime officials from various levels of the Dongchengfang Town government invited Liu Jianzeng to a feast, during which they threatened and coaxed this humiliated peasant to give up his right and dignity as a human being to bring the perpetrator to justice.

Liu Jianzeng's friends also reminded him that the wicked CCP is deft at using their trump card, "retaliation after the noise dies down." Even if he filed a lawsuit and won, what could he do if these people retaliated against him later? Liu Jianzeng softened, and seeing this, his wife Han Yuzhi left home brokenhearted. Her current whereabouts are unknown.

Of the five Falun Gong practitioners held at the Dongchengfang Police Station, Liu Jizhi, Han Yuzhi, Qu Wenting and Wang Helin have all left home to avoid retaliation, including possibly being murdered.

Right after the rapes were exposed, the police station lied, saying that policeman He Xuejian was not yet 18 years old. The police must know that He Xuejian had been working there for four years and is older than eighteen. Now the police station was saying, "He was not a police officer but an informal member of the security team."

Under great media pressure from inside and outside China, He Xuejian was arrested on December 11. On December 19, a Special Case Group chaired by the head of the Baoding City Police Department was established. On December 25, the head of the Zhuozhou City Police Department was removed from his post.

"610 Office" plans dramatic overturn of case; fanatic retaliation

In order to continue promoting its persecution policies against Falun Gong, agents from the Hebei Province "610 Office" overturned the case and posted a 100,000 yuan reward for the capture of each victim and witness to the rape. Policemen are looking everywhere for the victims. They are merely waiting for the victims and witnesses to be arrested before they will officially overturn the case.

Xizhuan Village in Dongchengfang Town is shrouded in terror, as police cars rip through the village day and night. After 7:00 p.m., Village CCP branch secretary Yang Shun gathered up the village officials and CCP members. He arranged for them to follow, investigate and harass the victims' families. They also found a list of names of people who had practiced Falun Gong before 1999. The lawless officials then ordered the CCP members and others to watch these people who are not allowed to leave town unless they report to the local government beforehand. The CCP members were even dispatched to watch a man in his 80s who is semi-paralyzed and mute.

The CCP members and officials were also divided into groups and took turns harassing the victims' families every few hours. These families were extremely frightened and nervous. The Communist regime agents also searched their homes and are monitoring the victims' and their friends and relatives' mobile phones. They are staked out outside their homes. The regime dispatched many security personnel at major intersections leading to the village, to stop outsiders and reporters from entering the village.

A police officer raped two women in broad daylight, yet the victims and their families are forbidden to speak up and expose the abuse they were subjected to under the persecution. Sometimes even the CCP members who are staked out overnight outside the homes of the victims' families said, "This is too much! What kind of government is this?"

On January 6, 2006, several police officers from Hebei Province attacked four Zhuozhou City practitioners in Zhongguancun, Beijing from behind and arrested them. The arresting officers then covered the practitioners' heads and took them to the 4th floor of the Huadu Hotel in Gaobeidian City. Officials from the Gaobeidian Police Department dispatched several agents from the criminal police unit to interrogate these four practitioners. One emphasis of the interrogation was the whereabouts of Liu Jizhi and Han Yuzhi. Falun Gong practitioner Li Gang (pseudonym) was tortured to the brink of death. These practitioners were later sent to the Zhuozhou Detention Center.

On January 12 and January 13, the police arrested another six Falun Gong practitioners at home. They are from Yihezhuang Township and Matou Township. Three practitioners returned home after the police extorted money from their families. Zhao Xu's family from Matou Township was extorted 5,000 yuan!

Before January 6, the Standing Committee of the Baoding City CCP Committee held a meeting, during which a decision was unanimously passed: people are allowed to practice Falun Gong at home. This decision, however, was quickly overturned by the "610 Office," without the acknowledgement or agreement from the Standing Committee. The practitioners arrested on January 12 and January 13 were all arrested at home.

The head of the Special Case Group said, ""Handle He Xuejian as a minor offender." It became obvious at this point which direction this case is headed.

Song Xiaobin and other persecutors from Dongchengfang Town arrested the practitioners and extorted money from them, which is against the law. He Xuejian raped two Falun Gong practitioners. That is also against the law of any land and against human decency. The Special Case Group has both the witnesses and the physical evidence to judge this crime. The newly appointed head of the Baoding City Police Department once vowed, "He Xuejian's case will be concluded on January 12." But so far, the Special Case Group not only has not punish the sexual pervert, but has instead publicly retaliated against the victims and their sympathizers. They are scheming to find the "behind-the-scenes director" who exposed the truth about this crime. Obviously, the Special Case Group was not established to uphold justice but to retaliate against the Falun Gong practitioners in Zhuozhou City, cut off their support for the victims, stop them from exposing the truth and prevent international support for the victims.

    3. Strong response to rape incidents in international society

The international community asks for perpetrators to be brought to justice

Falun Gong Human Rights Working Group continuously received strong condemnations of these atrocities by the CCP and support for the victims from around the world. Some of them are listed below.

R.M. from Canada: The crime of police officers at the Dongchengfang Police Station through their abuse of power shocked me beyond words. The Chinese government's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is sad and pathetic. I deeply sympathize with the victims living under the fascist system. Although it may take some time for justice to prevail, it will eventually prevail. I will loudly oppose this brutal action! Crimes will be punished.

J.N. from Sweden: The world is now facing many disasters, but the Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong is the most dreadful. I really can't imagine how people can be so evil (I rarely use this word). I will try my best to do something to help change this horrific current situation.

Professor A. R. from Israel: The Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong is an insult and crime to all humanity, it cannot be tolerated by Chinese and the world's people. This barbaric, cruel and shameful persecution must stop now, and the persecutors must be brought to justice!

    C. S. from Australia: The current disastrous reality in China is shocking. I admire Falun Gong practitioners for their courage to speak the truth.

    S. T. from Barbados: The inhumane abuse of innocent people who are harmless toward others is very shameful; it must end right now! The abusers must receive judgment and severe punishment! Their action is revolting! China should be ashamed of them!

    S. W. from England: I can't imagine that in China, the government's only response to spiritual belief is violence and heinous acts. How can one commit such bestial act toward another person? Those who committed torture and rape must receive lawsuit. Furthermore, the government must end its irrational fear and hatred toward spiritual movements and beliefs.

    H. M. from Arizona, US: The world is watching; how can a government allow such a brutal act? This is all caused by the Chinese Communist Party. China needs judicial justice! It's quite necessary for people of conscience to shed more light on this incident.

    F. S. from Switzerland: Let's together stop this most cruel persecution! One fifth of the population on this planet lives in China, yet they are victims of the evil Communist specter. This deserves world attention. The values of free societies are facing frightening but realistic challenges.

E.T. from France: freedom of speech and freedom of belief are universally acknowledged basic human rights in France and other democratic countries. I firmly and strongly condemn torture. I think torture is a severe violation of human rights, and brutality is a crime against humanity.

    C. Y. from Taiwan: The persecution must end immediately, not only for Falun Gong practitioners but also for all Chinese people. Some Chinese people have lost their conscience.

    D. C. from Malaysia: China is going backwards. Chinese people are living in a dark era.

    T. C. from England: People are recording the crimes of the Chinese Communist Party. In the near future, all crimes will receive just punishment!

Conscience keeps me from staying silent

With persistent truth clarification and selfless sacrifices by the Falun Gong practitioners, more and more people now clearly see the evil nature of this persecution and are now opposing the persecution. Below is a letter from a Zhuozhou City resident who knows about the persecution.

"I am a resident of Zhuozhou City. I was shocked after learning about the rape that took place at the Dongchengfang Police Station. He Xuejian, a man wearing a police uniform, raped two women Falun Gong practitioners. Liu Jizhi, one of the victims, is of similar age as He Xuejian's mother. This crime evokes the wrath of gods and man alike! Conscience prevents me from keeping silent, because He Xuejian's hideous act reminds me of Ren Binghui, the secretary for Political and Judiciary Committee in Yihezhuang Township in Zhuozhou City.

On October 1, 2000, five Falun Gong practitioners were illegally arrested in Beijing for appealing and were taken to the Yihezhuang Township government and held in the conference room. These five practitioners are Mr. Wang Gang in his 30s, Mr. Zhang Muo in his late 20s, Zhang Muo's mother in her 60s, Ms. Zang Cuiqing in her late 30s, and Ms. Chen Lingmei around 50 years of age.

A loudspeaker installed in the conference room blasted propaganda in a shrill and deafening voice to prevent the practitioners from sleeping, as the captors attempted to destroy the practitioners' will. It said that their fates would be determined on October 8.

It was cold in October. These practitioners were held for seven days. The phone rang on the morning of October 8 at the party secretary's office, and the government issued an order stating, "Treat them as counterrevolutionaries. If they are beaten to death, it will be counted as suicide." After receiving this order, Ren Binghui, the secretary of Political and Judiciary Committee, Ma Shuhai, the township CCP Committee secretary, Bai Jinghua, the township head, and several deputy township heads started torturing the practitioners. The captors divided themselves into groups. They dragged the practitioners out, handcuffed them and hung them up in a bike-park shack for three days. They also didn't allow the practitioners to eat or to sleep.

At noon on October 12, Han Zhanshan, the Zhuozhou City Political and Judiciary Committee secretary, oversaw the persecution being carried out. They first held a meeting at the township government, after which Han Zhanshan asked each of the five practitioners, "Will you still practice Falun Gong?" The practitioners firmly answered, "Yes!" With a wave of his hand, Han Zhanshan ordered the others, including Ren Binghui and Ma Shuhai, to start beating the practitioners. Some people sympathized with Falun Gong and didn't want to beat the practitioners, so they left. Those who stayed followed Han's instructions.

The first practitioner to be beaten was Zhang Muo, a retired soldier. The room was very crowded. The thugs dragged Zhang Muo into the courtyard and whipped him from head to toe with sticks and a whip made of three electric cords twisted together. Zhang Muo screamed in pain but they refused to stop. Zhang Muo's mother almost fainted because she couldn't bear watching her son being tortured.

Zang Cuiqing was the second practitioner to be tortured. They let her down from the hanging position in the shack and pushed her to the ground. He removed Zang Cuiqing's clothes. He pulled her coat down to her shoulder, and then he pulled her pants down to her ankles. Zang Cuiqing was then left in underpants. Ma Shuhai, the township Party secretary, led a few township heads to start beating Zang Cuiqing. They used the same instruments that were used to beat Zhang Muo. Sometime later Ren Binghui said, "This whip doesn't hurt her; let's break it in three, because the thinner it is, the more it hurts!" They whipped her until she lost consciousness. Then they poured cold water over her. When she came to, they hung her up by her handcuffs, almost naked.

After Zang Cuiqing was hung up, they still had her pants around her ankles, and this was more obvious with her being hung up. Everyone who was coming to work could see this. They hung her up for a long time. Ren Binghui thought that he had achieved his goal, so he pulled Zang Cuiqing's pants up. Bai Jinghua, a township head, stopped Ren Binghui and said, "Don't pull it up for her." As he said this, he violently kicked Zang Cuiqing's shins, making Zang Cuiqing's body sway back and forth in the air. Ren Binghui was encouraged by the violence and asked Zang Cuiqing, "Will you still practice?" She answered, "Yes I will!" He ordered people to bring a basin of ice-cold water and poured it down her neck. She was soaked and the water dripped from her feet. She shivered and trembled.

Practitioner Chen Lingmei was the third person who was beaten.
Practitioner Zhang Mo's mother in her 60s was the fourth person who was beaten.
Practitioner Wang Gang was the fifth person who was beaten.

All of the violence took place under the supervision of a Zhuozhou City CCP head and was led by the township Party secretary. All of these crimes were committed by Communist Party members. Ren Binghui stripped a woman practitioner's clothes off in front of everyone. Ren Binghui's actions help us better understand Song Xiaobin, secretary of Dongchengfang Town Politics and Law Committee. He Xuejian's crime is not an isolated incident. If someone joins the Chinese Communist Party, the Party will instill him with wicked theories that resemble psychological time bombs. If we don't understand that the Communist Party is an evil organization, we won't be able to explain the sinister crimes that take place one after another in China.

    Conclusion

If not driven by the Jiang regime's genocidal policy "beaten to death is nothing and will be counted as suicide; do not identify practitioners who are beaten to death and directly cremate their bodies;" if it weren't for the support and encouragement from the "610 Office," how would He Xuejian dare to rape two women in a row in broad daylight, inside the police station, in front of another police officer? Why would police departments on various levels threaten the victims, the witnesses, and even post rewards for their capture, instead of punishing the perpetrator? The Chinese Communist evil specter is the source of all crimes in Chinese society.

Rape victim Liu Jizhi said, "This is why I cannot return home now. He Xuejian is not the only criminal. There are other criminals still at large. I cannot return home safely with the criminals unpunished and Falun Gong still under persecution. So I have decided to continue exposing the persecution. I also hope friends from all over the world continue to support us. With the attention and condemnation of people, the bad people don't dare to continue their persecution of good people. With continuous strong voices demanding punishment of the criminals, they will finally be brought to justice. Only when justice is returned to Falun Gong, can I return home in a dignified way!"

Even now, no positive results have come from the rapes in Zhuozhou City. The victims and witness are still living in exile and cannot return home, and good and innocent Falun Gong practitioners are still being persecuted. We absolutely will not allow this crime to end without a just result. We will never cease our call for justice as long as the perpetrators are at large and the persecution is still continuing!

Near Death From Persecution: Pictures of Practitioner Mr. He Xuezhao from Hunan Province

These three photographs of Falun Gong practitioner Mr. He Xuezhao from Chenzhou City, Henan Province were taken on January 13, 2006, when he was dying from persecution. His wife is still being threatened. Additional details are not available at this time.

Mr. He Xuezhao was about 42 years old when he passed away. He used to work as an elementary school teacher at the Liyujiang Electricity Factory School in Chenzhou City/Zixing City in Hunan Province. Mr. He, a steadfast practitioner, was illegally detained in the Chenzhou Detention Center three times for a total of three hundred and ninety days. He paid considerable money and property in extortion fines to the police.

In January of 2000, when Mr. He went to Beijing City to appeal for Falun Gong, he was illegally arrested and sentenced to one year of forced labor. He was tortured during this period in the Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp of Changsha City in Hunan Province. The forced labor sentence was extended for an additional 6 months before he was released. He was abducted once again by police from the Chenzhou City 610 Office prior to the Lunar New Year of 2002.

In March 2002, the police arrested Mr. He from his workplace and took him to a hotel basement suite where he was tortured by at least ten police officers, including Peng Yanshou (male). Five days later, Mr. He escaped from the police but was forced to leave home to avoid further persecution.

On November 7, 2002, Mr. He Xuezhao was illegally arrested again. In November 2003, Mr. He was illegally sentenced to eight years of imprisonment in the Jinshi City Prison in Hunan Province. He was tortured almost to death, had great difficulty walking and could not speak properly. In February 2005, after his family's request, Mr. He was released for "medical treatment."

On January 13, 2006, Mr. He Xuezhao passed away following an extended period of harassment and monitoring by the Zixing City 610 Office and from individuals at his work place. His body was taken to a funeral home in Chenzhou City, but there was not family to deal with his remains; his wife had been arrested by the police in Zixing City.

Heartbroken during Chinese New Year When Families Celebrate Together

This is the 7th Chinese New Year since the persecution began in July 20, 1999.

The persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist party (CCP) has not stopped for a single heartbeat since 1999. Statistics on the Minghui website show that more than 2,813 innocent Falun Gong practitioners have been persecuted to death. At least 6,000 Falun Gong practitioners have been sentenced to illegal prison terms, more than 100,000 Falun Gong practitioners have been sent to labor camps, and several thousand practitioners were sent to mental hospitals, where they were injected with drugs that damage the nervous system. Furthermore, countless Falun Gong practitioners were arrested and taken to local brainwashing centers for persecution. Many have been physically abused and heavily fined. In 2005 alone, more than 392 people died as a result of the persecution.

Many children and seniors were left behind when practitioners were tortured to death. Since September 14, 2004, when Minghui began to collect information about orphans whose parents were tortured to death, 376 orphans, including 56 children under 6 years old, were officially recorded.

At the time when families meet for joyous celebrations, many family members of those tortured to death feel the loss of their parents, spouses, and children deeply.

Below are some of the tragic stories.

    1. January 31, 2005 -- the day when Zhuangzhuang's father left this world

As of January 31, 2005, five-year-old Zhuangzhuang, a little boy, lost his father under tragic circumstances. His father, Mr. Pan Xingfu, was persecuted to death for his beliefs. He was the former deputy director of the Telecommunications Exchange Center in Shuangyashan City and also deputy director for the Telecommunications Bureau in Youyi County, Heilongjiang Province. Mr. Pan gave his life for his belief in Falun Gong, "Truthfulness-Compassion- Forbearance," when he was only 31 years old. Zhuangzhuang's mother, Ms. Zhang Li, was illegally sentenced to nine years in prison in January 2003 and is now imprisoned in the Harbin City Women's Prison, in violation of the Chinese constitution.

Photo of Mr. Pan Xingfu, Falun Gong practitioner from Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province

The little boy's father died on January 31, 2005. His mother is illegally imprisoned in Harbin City Women's Prison, for a 9-year term.

On July 8, 2004, Mudanjiang City Jail authorities, to avoid responsibility for his health condition, took Mr. Pan Xingfu to the Shuanyashan City Infectious Diseases Hospital. By then he weighed 40 kg (approximately 86 lbs) and was suffering from grave illnesses. On July 20 Mr. Pan was taken home. In January 2005, Mr. Pan's illness deteriorated. He became even more emaciated and his abdomen was distended severely. At 11:00 p.m. January 31, 2005, Mr. Pan Xingfu died, leaving his sixty four-year-old mother, his five-year-old son and his imprisoned wife alone in this world.

Mr. Pan Xingfu was born on February 25, 1974 in Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province. In 1993, he listened to Mr. Li Hongzhi's lectures and exercise teachings in Wuhan. He graduated from the university in 1994 and was assigned to work in the Network Division, Shuangyashang City Post and Telecommunications Office. A job performance review in1995 earned him the title "Advanced Worker." In 1997, he earned the title "Model Worker" for rejuvenating the city through science and education. In 1998, he earned a title of distinction and was named "Trans-century Specialist." On December 12, 1999, Mr. Pan was granted a title of Telecommunications Engineer. In 2000, he became deputy director of the Telecommunications Exchange Center in Shuangyashan City and also deputy director of the Telecommunications Bureau in Youyi County.

Zhuangzhuang's mother, Zhang Li, also a technical specialist, worked at the same place as his father. She once took part in advanced studies abroad.

Zhuangzhuang was born on October 5, 1999. He was a wonderful little boy. Since Jiang's regime had begun persecuting Falun Gong, Zhuangzhuang's entire family went to appeal for Falun Gong, clarified the truth, appeal ford Falun Gong, and was repeatedly persecuted. Zhuangzhuang was thus indirectly persecuted.

On July 19, 2000, authorities from the Political Security Section in Shuangyashan City Police Department, having received a coded telegram from the Provincial Police Department saying that Mr. Pan had accessed Minghui over Internet, illegally detained Mr. Pan and imprisoned him in a detention center for over one month.

On December 28, 2000, Mr. Pan and his family members went to Beijing to appeal. In Tiananmen Square, police kicked and struck him, knocking off his glasses and bruising his fingers.

Later on, Mr. Pan was detained in Tiananmen Square police station, the Shahe Labor Camp and then in the Changhe County police station patrol. On the way back to the Shuangyashan police station, he managed to escape, but did not return home to avoid further persecution. His mother and his wife, carrying Zhuangzhuang, returned home. Mr. Pan's mother was then arrested by policeman Wang Xuchun from the Wohongqiao Police Station and held in a detention center. She was released four months later.

In order to continue practicing Falun Gong and to avoid harassment, Mr. Pan's wife left home with ten-month-old Zhuangzhuang. On May 4, 2001, she was unlawfully detained in Baoqing County. Perpetrators were the section chief Han from the Political and Security Section of Baoqing County Police Department and policeman Qiang Gang. In those days, baby Zhuangzhuang had no mother's milk, no father's care, and couldn't see his grandmother. This lasted for a total of four months.

In May 2001, Pan Xingfu and another practitioner, Ji Songshan (Ji Songshan was killed by the Shuangyashan 610 Office on June 18, 2003) were arrested by Shuangyashan Patrol Team officers Xu Hongkai and Shang Ancheng. Since then, Pan Xingfu was imprisoned in the Shuangyashan Detention Center.

At 8:00 a.m. on March 7, 2002, the court heard Mr. Pan's case. His wife and three-year-old Zhuangzhuang were stopped from entering the court. Mr. Pan was illegally sentenced to a five-year term.

On May 15, Mr. Pan's wife Zhang Li was arrested at home. At 3:50 a.m. Mr. Pan's mother was arrested at home, which left three-year-old Zhuangzhuang without care at home.

That same year, Mr. Pan's second oldest brother and his wife were illegally sent to a labor camp.

Mr. Pan Xingfu was detained at four different places during that time. He was first taken to Shuangyashan Detention Center, then Qitaihe Forced Labor Camp, then Suihua Forced Labor Camp and finally to Mudanjiang Forced Labor Camp. He was forced to do many odd jobs -- feeding pigs, making dough, cleaning floors, etc.

On September 18, 2002, his brother, Pan Xingkun was confined in a small cell and forced to sit on a Tiger Bench, for resisting the evil persecution. Police team leader Hao Liangui and deputy leader Fan Xiaodong ordered inmate Zeng Lingjun to cruelly beat Pan Xingkun. Then, Ji Feng, the labor camp director, told the police to turn up a tape player to the maximum volume to keep Pan Xingkun from sleeping.

In January 2003, Pan Xingfu's wife Zhang Li was illegally sentenced to a nine-year prison term and was sent to Harbin City Women's Prison in April.

One day in June 2004, three years after his detention, Pan Xingfu suddenly fainted and his health deteriorated from then on. On June 18, 2004, he was taken to the police hospital in Mudanjiang City and was hospitalized as a TB in-patient. He was diagnosed as having pleurisy and lung tissue damage. Mr. Pan's body was very weak. He could not even go to the toilet by himself. On July 8, 2004, Mudanjiang Prison authorities sent Pan Xingfu to the Shuangyashan City Infectious Diseases Hospital. At that time he weighed only around 40 kg (approximately 86 lbs). Even his 64-year-old mother could carry him on her back.

Mr. Pan Xingfu was set free after he was grossly abused and tormented to the brink of death in Mudanjiang City Jail.

On July 20, 2004, Pan Xingfu was sent home. While at home he ate only a little each day, walked by supporting himself along the wall, and had difficulty breathing during the night. At the end of January 2005, Pan Xingfu's condition suddenly deteriorated. He continued to lose weight and his abdomen distended badly. Pan Xingfu died on January 31, 2005 at 11:00 p.m., leaving his deeply beloved mother, five-year-old son and his imprisoned wife behind.

    2. In less than 3 years, 10-year-old Liu Mohan lost his father and grandfather

Falun Gong practitioner Liu Chengjun of Nongan County, Jilin Province was tortured to death on December 26, 2003. His son Liu Mohan is ten years old and a student in Class 5, Grade 5 at Ernong Elementary School in Jiutai City, Jilin Province.

Liu Chengtai passed away on March 28, 2005, less than two years after his son, Liu Chengjun was tortured to death for broadcasting truth clarification videos on cable TV in Changchun City.

Mr. Liu Changtai, 67 years old, lived in Nongan County, Jilin Province. His son Liu Chengjun, 33 years old, broadcasted truth clarification videos about Falun Gong along with several other practitioners in Changchun City and Songyuan City on March 5, 2002. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison and held at Jilin Prison, where he was savagely tortured. His legs were disabled from torture and he could not walk. After 21 months of nightmarish abuse he passed away at 4:30 a.m. on December 26, 2003 at Jilin University Sino-Japanese Hospital. The authorities cremated his body at 10:40 a.m., despite protests from his family.

An April 1, 2002, photo of Mr. Chengjun Liu in police custody. Liu was unable to sit up on his own and had to lean against the wall. There were bloodstains on his shirt. (Source: China News)

Liu Changtai's wife fainted, crying, and Liu Changtai developed an egg yolk-sized blister in his throat that almost suffocated him. The elderly couple's condition didn't improve until after they had received more than 20 days of medical treatment. They were heartbroken.

Liu Changtai wrote a letter to the various levels of the government saying, "I want justice or I will not be able to spend the rest of my days in peace! I just cannot understand how someone who was simply being a good person could be brutally murdered this way. Where is the law and where is justice in this large country? I can't imagine what methods they used to kill my son, as I saw blood coming out of my son's nostrils, ears and thighs. Why?"

After Liu Chengjun was tortured to death, the perpetrators went to his home to monitor and harass his family. Liu Changtai's daughter Liu Lin was arrested by officers from the Beijing City Police Department on December 17, 2004 and was not allowed family visits.

    3. Only two were left behind -- a teenage girl and her great-grand father, from a formerly happy family of five people

Falun Gong practitioner Mrs. He Guizhi was 82 years old and lived in Hua'nan County, Heilongjiang Province. Her grandson and granddaughter-in-law were both tortured to death for practicing Falun Gong. She had nowhere to go to find justice. She lost her eyesight and died brokenhearted on December 3, 2003. Her 82-year-old husband and great granddaughter, Sun Yubo, who became destitute, survived her.

Mr. Sun Jihong's Grandparents He Guizhi and Sun Xueren

Mr. Sun Jihong, his wife Yuan Hezhen, and their daughter Sun Yubo

Mrs. He Guizhi (and her husband) lived with their grandson Sun Jihong. After practicing Falun Gong since 1996, many of her ailments such as asthma, pulmonary emphysema, and bronchitis were all cured. She lived a happy and content life. Beginning with July 20, 1999 when the persecution of Falun Gong began, the police constantly came and harassed them at their house, and caused Mrs. He Guizhi's health to deteriorate. Her grandson Sun Jihong used to be the Hua'nan Forestry Police Station Director, but he was arrested and detained many times due to firmly believing in Truthfulness, Benevolence, and Forbearance. On September 25, 2002, Mr. Sun Jihong was arrested and detained again in the Fengtai District Police Station, Beijing. Four days later, on September 29, 2003, he was tortured to death by police. His body showed that he was cruelly beaten. There was a hole between his eyebrows, and two more holes on his chin. There wasn't any healthy skin on his body due to the brutal beatings (see /emh/articles/2005/9/19/65087.html).

Mr. Sun Jihing's wife used to work for the Hua'nan County Forestry Commercial Bank as a manager. She was arrested and detained in May 2002 in Beijing. She was brutally beaten, handcuffed, and force-fed in the detention center. That damaged her health severely, and caused her death in July 2003.

Three members of Mrs. He Guizhi's family of five were killed by the CCP's evil persecution, and now only 82-year old Mr. Sun Xueren and his great granddaughter Sun Yubo are left. After Mr. Sun Jihong was murdered, officials from Beijing gave them only twenty thousand yuan in compensation. Mr. Sun Xueren wants to sue those responsible for such a brutal killing to the Higher Court in Beijing. He tried to find a lawyer to help, but failed due to interference from the CCP. Mr. Sun wants to expose his family tragedy internationally.

    3. Ms. Yu Zhenghong was tortured to death; her husband and child left behind in deep anguish

Practitioner Ms. Yu Zhenghong, a resident of Siqian Village, Songcun Town, Wendeng City, Shandong Province, was detained and tortured many times for practicing Falun Gong.

"Around 6:30 a.m. on September 27, a dozen agents from Wendeng 610 Office, including Liu, Xiang Hongping and Sun Guohai, ransacked our home and arrested my wife. They sent her to Wendeng Detention Center. They used despicable means to attempt to force her to give up practicing Falun Gong, and she went on a hunger strike. She was taken to the same hospital again on the 12th day to be force-fed. On the 14th day she was tortured to the brink of death and then transferred to Wendeng Central Hospital. The hospital staff asked to locate her family, but the 610 Office agents denied their request. After a medical exam, my wife was diagnosed with high blood pressure and severe heart disease. On the 15th day they were afraid she would die at Wendeng Detention Center, so they released her. My wife never recovered, and she passed away around 10 p.m. on November 17, 2005 (at the age of 43)."

Her husband said with great sorrow in his heart and voice: "After practicing Falun Gong in the summer of 1997, my wife became healthier day by day. After some time all of her previous illnesses were gone. She could do any amount of work, and could return to work in the factory. Life at home also improved. Previously, I insulted and beat people I didn't like. However, after practicing Falun Gong, I conducted myself according to the principles taught by our Teacher of Truth, Compassion, Forbearance, and this helped greatly improve my moral character.

The good times didn't last though. After July 20, 1999, Falun Gong suffered a terrible wrong. One day in October 1999 around 10 p.m., Xing Shuwu and Yu Jincheng and a group of people from the Songcun Town police station came to Wendeng. These people broke into our home and stole Teacher's picture and all of our Falun Gong materials. In addition, they illegally arrested my wife. They cuffed her to a chair in the freezing winter weather for 24 hours. I went to ask for her release, and they asked me to write a guarantee statement to promise that she would never practice Falun Gong again or appeal for Falun Gong. I wrote it against my better judgment. After that I never saw my wife smile again."

    4. After Mr. Fei Zhongrun was beaten to death, his father in 80s, his jobless wife, and a 3-month old baby girl were left behind

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Fei Chongrun, formerly called Fei Weidong, 41 years old, was nearly six feet tall and very healthy. At noon on October 18, 2005, he clarified the truth when buying a motorcycle at the Yongfeng Vehicle Shop at No. 335 West Lushan Road in Jiujiang County. The shop owner turned him over to the police. The police arrived and quickly closed the shutters before beating Fei Chongrun to death.

Fei Chongrun is survived by his 80-year-old father, his three-month-old daughter, and his unemployed wife. At this time, the police are refusing to investigate the murder

Fei Chongrun's body was full of injuries. His lips were swollen and there were bloodstains on the corners of the mouth. Two of his front teeth were missing and one tooth was broken. There was a semi-circle shaped wound on his right temple caked with dry blood. About one inch above this wound was a circular wound about 0.6 inches in diameter. The flesh on that wound was caved in and covered with blood. There was a red abrasion wound below the left shoulder, scratch wounds on both elbows, and dirt on both knees. These wounds show that Fei Chongrun sustained bodily injuries in the front and back, and on both the right and left sides.

Fei Chongrun's family also saw wounds in his private area, which was black and blue. Fei Chongrun's family asked the shop owner Hong Ying about this incident, but Hong Ying and the police insisted that Fei Chongrun "fell to his death." Considering the area of Fei Chongrun's injuries on his entire body, especially the severe injuries around and in his mouth and on his temple, how could he have knocked out two of his front teeth while injuring his right side? How could there be so many bleeding wounds?

On October 21, perpetrators from the Jiujiang County Police Department, the Politics and Judicial System and the court who have been persecuting Falun Gong for a long time, formed a group and played the "mediator." Perpetrators from the Jiujiang County Police Department and the Politics and Law Committee each gave Fei Chongrun's family 10,000 Yuan and claimed the money came from shop owner Hong Run.

On October 22, four coroners from Jiujiang City and Jiujiang County and two doctors from a hospital performed Fei Chongrun's autopsy and said the result would not come out until one month later. During this period, Fei Chongrun's family inquired several times but was told, "If you keep inquiring like this, you'll probably have to return the 20,000 Yuan!" Fei Chongrun's family thus became silent. No further investigation was conducted into the cause of Fei Chongrun's death, and the case was thus closed.

The death of Mr. Fei left his father in 80s, his jobless wife, and a 3-month old baby girl behind. The three cannot support themselves, and they are destitute.

More tragedies like these are still happening.

National Security Group Officials in Xinji City, Hebei Province, Arrest and Extort Money from Practitioners around the Chinese New Year

On January 16, 2006, at 11:50 a.m., Police Officer Zhao from the National Security Group of Xinji City, Hebei Province, and Deputy Chief Ren from Tianjiazhuang Village Police Station hired six to seven youths to kidnap Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Haiqiang from Dongzhangkou Village. Police Officer Geng Chao said that if Mr. Liu didn't pay the fine and write a Repentance Statement, they would send him to the brainwashing center in Shijiazhuang City, the capital of Hebei Province.

When Mr. Liu Haiqiang tried to stop them from ransacking his house, the hired youths beat him. They forced Mr. Liu into the police vehicle.

Someone who knew the police and the youth gang saw what was going on and demanded to know, "What are you doing?" One of the police officers said, "It is going to be the Chinese New Year soon. We just want to extort some money for drinks."

When Mr. Liu's brother immediately went to the police station to demand the release of his brother, Geng Chao threatened, "If you continue to bother us, I will arrest you, too."

The Falun Gong practitioners in Xinji City are persecuted very severely. According to available statistics, more than 10 people have been illegally sentenced, more than 40 people sent to the forced labor camp, more than 200 people taken to brainwashing, and many more people have been forced to pay "fines." Since the persecution began, Geng Chao, the head of the National Security Group of Xinji City, has confiscated the homes of practitioners and robbed and extorted money from them. He has persecuted, arrested, and sent them to forced labor camps. Many practitioners have become destitute and homeless and their families torn apart. Many have lost their lives.

Police Extort Twenty Thousand Yuan from a Senior Couple in Yushu City, Jilin Province

My name is Zhang Shulan and I live in Yushu City, Jilin Province. I started to practice Falun Gong in 1998. I used to suffer from many types of illnesses, including rheumatism, neurosis and gynecological diseases. I took many different types of medicine every day. A medicine cabinet was attached to the wall by the head of my heated bed. However, those were not my only troubles: My husband also suffered from necrosis of the femur and was not able to work. We hardly had the money to pay for food, much less to buy medicine.

Just when we had reached the end of what we could bear, I was fortunate enough to learn Falun Gong. All of my illnesses went away when I started to do the Falun Gong exercises. My husband and I were very happy.

Just as we were feeling extremely fortunate that Falun Gong had saved my life, the township police arrived at our door. It was 11:00 p.m. on March 7, 2002. They searched the house looking for Falun Gong books and DVDs. The next morning, the police showed up again and said they needed to take me to the station to explain where I got the DVDs. However, after I got into their car, they did not drive me to the police station, but took me directly to the City Detention Center, where I was held for fifteen days. I was then transferred to the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City. That was April 4, 2002, and I was held for one year.

My husband went to Changchun City to visit me 27 times during that year to bring me clothes, food and other daily necessities. My oldest son and my sister also came to visit me every week. Due to the shock and stress caused by my detention, my husband contracted diabetes. The year of illegal detention cost my family more than 7,800 yuan.

At 8:30 a.m., on April 8, 2005, the police searched our home and rummaged through the chests and cupboards when my husband and I were not home. They confiscated my Falun Gong books and printed materials. When I returned, the police officers asked me whether I would continue to practice Falun Gong. I said, "I have benefited so much from the practice. Why would I ever consider stopping?" In response, they dragged me into their car and took me to the City Detention Center where I was held for twenty days. This time, my husband figured out a way to pay someone 11,600 yuan and bailed me out. The two detentions combined cost us 19,400 yuan, all of which my husband had to borrow.

My husband and I are both in our sixties and are no longer able to work. We are trying to make a living by renting out our half Shang (a plot of land measuring fifteen mu, 15 mu being about 2.5 acres in most of Northeast China and three to five mu in Northwestern China).

The Persecution Suffered by Two Practitioners Before They Died

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Su Caixia was held in detention and persecuted several times. She was forced to become destitute and homeless because she wanted to practice Falun Gong without being arrested. She died in mid-August of 2004.

Ms. Su Caixia was fifty-seven years old and an employee at the Nanle County Public Hospital in Henan province. She started to practice Falun Gong in 1996. She had suffered from numerous diseases before, such as diabetes, a serious female related disease, high blood pressure and heart disease. All of her health problems disappeared after she started practicing Falun Gong and she became very healthy. When the vicious CCP started to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, she went to Anyang County, Zhengzhou City in order to clarify the truth about Falun Gong to the government. Around October, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. The police then arrested her and illegally detained her at the Nanle Detention Center. In January 2001, they forced her to go to the brainwashing center in the Nanle County Communist School. Since they were not able to "transform" Su Caixia, they illegally detained her at the Nanle County Detention Center. After fifty days in detention, they deceived and "transformed" her. When she returned home, her eyesight became blurry. With the help of Falun Gong practitioners and reading Falun Gong books, plus reading through the Minghui website, she started to understand the mistake of being "transformed." She wrote a "solemn declaration" and posted it in the streets.

The authorities began to follow her, stopped paying her husband's salary and threatened to fire her son from his job. Su Caixia was forced to become destitute and homeless, and went to clarify the truth in Shandong province and Beijing. After three months of going from place to place, her health started to deteriorate. After she returned home, a tumor started to grow on her inner thigh. She was neither able to lie down, sit nor go to the bathroom. Even under such circumstances, the police still arrested her and detained her for two days. Later the tumor disappeared. The police also threatened her family, kept a close surveillance on her and stopped her from reading Falun Gong books and doing the exercises. After that, Su Caixia's health worsened daily and she died in July of 2004.

Falun Gong Practitioner Liu Wanzhong from Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province Died In 2000

Mr. Liu Wanzong was seventy years old and a resident of the Fangshen Village, Liuzhangzi County, Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province. He suffered from a stroke, suffered partial paralysis on the right side, lost his memory and his speech was slow. Even after he was diagnosed and treated in the hospital, he did not improve much. He started to practice Falun Gong. On the fourth day of listening to Teacher's Lecture tapes, he felt his body becoming relaxed. He was at ease and felt as though his sickness had disappeared. A big change had occurred physically and mentally. This strengthened his belief in Falun Gong. After that, he read Falun Gong books and practiced the exercises everyday; he improved his moral standard and attained very good health. A seventy year old man was able to carry over 100 kilogram of material on his bicycle while traveling back and forth for 100 miles without getting tired.

However, since July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party started the inhumane persecution of everyone who practiced "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance". Liu Wanzhong experienced endless threats and terror. One day, people from the Liuzhangzi Village police station suddenly broke into his house and arrested his son and son-in-law, who were building his house at that time. They illegally detained the younger son at the Lingyuan City police station detention center for fifteen days. It was the October 1 National Day holiday, considered a politically "sensitive" time. Instead of releasing his younger son, they added fifteen days to his term. After Liu Wanzhong experienced this terrible incident, he worried all the time. His old illnesses recurred, and he died on October 30, 2000. Before he died, he told his relatives that they should keep practicing Falun Gong.
