On August 11, 2006, section chief Wang Wen and other policemen from Changling County National Security Group, Jilin Province, illegally arrested Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Lei. Mr. Zhang was a driver for a factory in Jiti Victory Village, Changling County. The police detained him in Changlin County Detention Center and tried to force him to write a guarantee statement promising to no longer practice Falun Gong. When he refused, they sentenced him to forced labor for one year. Mr. Zhang was examined and diagnosed with a serious illness, but Wang Wen didn't allow him to be released. He repeatedly attempted to send Mr. Zhang to a forced labor camp.

On October 31, the police sent Mr. Zhang to Jiutai Yingmahe Forced Labor Camp in Jilin. The doctor there diagnosed Mr. Zhang with a serious heart condition and hepatitis and refused to accept him. But Wang Wen still didn't allow his release. Instead, he sent Zhang Lei to Changling County Detention Center and extorted 1,000 yuan from his family.

On November 4, Zhang Lei's family went to the detention center to ask for his release. Mr. Zhang told his family that his illness was serious and asked Wang Wen to release him. But as soon as Wang Wen arrived at work the next morning, he handcuffed Zhang Lei behind his back, fettered him, and sent him to Jiangbei Center Hospital in Songyuan City to be examined. He attempted to falsify Zhang Lei's health record so that he could continue persecuting him.

Mr. Zhang Lei is currently detained in Changling County Detention Center.

Ms. Liu Li from Shuanghe Town, Yongji County, Jilin Province Held for over 9 Months

Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the Minghui.org website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Li is 50 years old and lived in Qishe, Changgangling Village, Shuanghe Town, Yongji County, Jilin Province. She started practicing Falun Gong in July 1999 and experienced tremendous physical and mental improvements from the practice. Jiang Zemin launched a persecution against Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, and used the state media to slander Falun Gong. Based on her own experience, Liu Li explained the wonders of Falun Gong and the facts of the persecution to people.

Shuanghe Town Police Station deputy head Liu Jie, local police officer Sun Youfeng, and driver Yang suddenly broke into Ms. Liu's home at noon on February 28, 2006, and ransacked it. They took a computer, a printer, cash, bank deposit slips, and ATM cards, among many other things. Shuanghe Town Police Station head Liu Junpeng beat Liu Li until her head bled and she lost consciousness. They took her to Shuanghe Town Police Station and savagely beat her there before taking her overnight to Jilin City Detention Center. Arrested practitioner Liu Ze was also in the same car with Liu Li. He was taken to Yongji County Custody Center. The detention center authorities refused to accept Ms. Liu because of her numerous bodily and head injuries. The police took her back to Shuanghe Town Police Station.

Liu Li was taken to Yongji County Hospital on March 1, 2006, where she was subjected to a so-called physical examination, after which she was taken back to Jilin City Detention Center. She refused to cooperate with the officials and went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. They brutally force-fed her. She has been held at Jilin City Detention Center until this day.

The guards told her husband that they would release her if he paid them 20,000 yuan, which he did. Nine months later, her ill husband is still waiting for his wife to come home.
