  • Merciless Persecution of Practitioner Who Was Raped by a Police Officer in Beijing

Ms. Wang Ping (alias) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Langfang City, Hebei Province. After the persecution against Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) inhumanely tortured her because she refused to renounce her belief.

Staff from Langfang City Police Department arrested Ms. Wang Ping in October 1999 because she appealed for Falun Gong in Beijing. Bureau staff detained her for 30 days and fined her 2,000 yuan. Guards at the detention center beat her, pulled her hair and hit her head with a wooden rod. Those who tortured her were Langfang City Policemen Yan Zhen, Yang Hua and Feng Guangji.

On March 6, 2000, she went again to appeal for Falun Gong in Beijing. Staff from Langfang City Police Department arrested her again, detained her for 30 days and fined her 1,000 yuan. Xing Shifeng, the chief, kicked her leg and bruised it. The people who tortured her were Yan Zhen, Feng Guangji, and Xing Shifeng from the 1st Division of Langfang City Police Department.

On May 13, 2000, Ms. Wang went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Tiananmen Police Station police arrested her and brutally beat her for over an hour. They extorted 500 yuan, claiming the money was for "taking her back to Langfang City Police Department." She protested her illegal detention. Directors with the last name of Li, Xing and Wang tied her on "The Dead Man's Bed" for over 45 hours. Li ordered prisoner Li Yingping to suffocate her with a wet towel. She was near death.

On June 18, 2000, Ms. Wang was doing Falun Gong exercises with other practitioners in front of a bank. The district and city police pushed her head down to the ground, beat her, stepped on her head and handcuffed her. Three police beat her in public for a hour. They detained her at Fanglang City Police Department for 25 days. Xing Shifeng, the director, put her in solitary confinement and slapped her face over a hundred times with a shoe. Her left ear was swollen and the left side of her neck and face were black and purple. She could no longer hear anything. The people who tortured her are Xing Shifeng, Li (director), Wang (director) and Guo (political commissioner).

On September 19, 2000, police from Fanglang City Police Department broke into Ms. Wang's house. She escaped and was homeless for 19 months. The police couldn't find her, so they detained her husband (a non-practitioner) for 15 days. Her child was left homeless with nothing to eat and no one to depend on. The people who are responsible for such atrocities are Fanglang City policemen Yan Zhen, Yang Hua, Tian Guangqing, Feng Guangji and Wu Hongwei. They went to Ms. Wang's house many times to harass her family. During the 19 months she was homeless, police from the Beijing Chaoyang Police Station arrested her twice and detained her for a total of six months. The police brutally beat her, cuffed her, hung her up by the cuffs, locked her in an iron cage, deprived her of food and put shackles on her. Staff from the People's Aviation Hospital in Beijing injected her with unknown drugs many times.

At about 9 p.m. on May 14, 2002, Ms. Wang went to a pond in Beijing to post Falun Gong flyers. A patrol officer saw her and beat her with a plastic baton. She was injured severely and was bleeding from many places. This officer, after brutally beating her, dragged her underneath a bridge in Dongzhimen in Beijing and raped her. The officer then stuck the plastic baton he beat her with into her vagina. She fainted because of the pain. After she woke, she was going to report the officer but he ran away. Two of her front teeth were knocked out and she was severely injured.

The above three pictures were taken nine days after Ms. Wang Ping was raped.

On Oct 26, 2001, Ms. Wang went to Shuangliu in Chaoyang District, Beijing, to deliver truth clarification materials when two officers arrested her. Police in the Sanjianfang Police Station locked her into an iron cage, handcuffed her, shackled her, and then took her to the Chaoyang Police Station. She was detained there for over two months. The guards beat her with wooden batons, poked her and kicked her head. Her face and eyes were bruised and swollen. Guard Du Jianjun brutally tortured her many time. The officers who tortured her were Du Jianjun, Zhang Yingnan, Zhou Changwang and Kang Jianjun from Chaoyang Police Station.

On December 26, 2001, police from the Chaoyang Police Station transferred her to Beijing City Police Hospital basement. The basement was closed by many iron doors and looked gloomy and scary. Her hands and legs were cuffed and she walked for a long time. She saw incinerators in the basement. After a few turns, she saw practitioners from all over the country imprisoned there. They had come to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. The practitioners had been severely tortured. Every morning, the medical staff would come to withdraw about 60 milliliter (3 oz.) of practitioners' blood. Those who refused were shocked with electric batons. Ms. Wang was there for 27 days and the medical staff drew blood daily. There were four practitioners in each cell. More practitioners were brought in daily. Practitioners in the basement were all cuffed to their beds and couldn't move. They suffered inhumane torture. When Ms. Wang was there, there were about 80 practitioners imprisoned there, not including the new practitioners brought in daily. When Ms. Wang was detained at Chaoyang Police Station in Beijing, policeman Wang Xiuyun ordered prisoners to tie her up and beat her until she lost consciousness. They woke her up by pouring over 40 buckets of cold water over her. The guards tortured her many times. The people who tortured her were Wang Xiuyun, Du Jianjun, Zhang Yingnan, Zhou Changwang and Kang Jianjun.

On January 14, 2002, staff from Langfang City Police Department arrested Ms. Wang in Shuangliu again and took her to the Yuecheng Brainwashing Center. Langfang 610 Office in Beijing was in charge of this brainwashing center. She was there for 30 days and fined 10,000 yuan. Staff at the Yuecheng Brainwashing Center attempted to have her write the three statements, to renounce Falun Gong. She refused to renounce Falun Gong. Guard Zhao Lihua slapped her face, kicked her chest with hard leather shoes, deprived her of sleep, and tortured her night and day to force her to renounce Falun Gong. People who tortured her were Han Zhuguang, Zhao Lihua, Tian Guangqing and Yan Zhen.

On March 8, 2004, police Yan Zhen, Zhang Jian'guo, Wu Hongwei and two others broke into Ms. Wang's house. They viciously beat her, cuffed her and then took her to the Kaiping Female Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan City. She was "sentenced" to a two year term and locked in a solitary confinement cell for 13 months. The guards refused to let her sleep and forced her to stand in a drafty room. They monitored her continuously. Guards ordered prisoners to pinch her, poke her eyeballs, slap her, and make her renounce Falun Gong. Guards Ke Jibin, Ruan Daguo, Zhao Nan, Zhang Yongzhong and Li Shengli took her to the legal education division for more brutal torture. The windows there were all blocked with comforters and it was dark in the room. Eight or nine men took turns torturing her. They made a great effort to force her to renounce Falun Gong.

Ke Jibin is the Director of the legal education division. Ke forbid her to say "Falun Dafa is good" and threatened to strangle her with a rope and kill her. They tortured her daily. Once Yan Hongli, Wang Yuhua, Jia Fengmei, and Liu Xiujuan came into her cell with the excuse of searching for Master Li's articles. They tore open her comforter and clothes. Not finding anything, they beat her until she was bleeding from her nose and a lot of her hair was pulled out. Yan Hongli ordered prisoners to strip her. Wang Yuhua, Jia Fengmei, Liu Xiujua, and a prisoner named Chen Yan stripped her and forced her to stand without moving for an hour. Ms. Wang was dizzy and bleeding everywhere. During the 13 months, she suffered numerous brutal beatings and was provided little food. Guards threatened to beat her if she asked to see the captain. The people who tortured her were Ke Jibin, Yan Hongli, Ruan Daguo, Wang Yan, Wang Yanhua, Li Shengli, Zhao Nan, Zhang Yongzhong, Liu Xiujuan, Wang Yuhua, Jia Fengmei, Wang Weiwei, Zhang Xin, Gao Wei, Liu Xiuzhen, Gou Yamin, Li Xiaofeng, Captains Qin and Xie (their first names unknown), Cai Jun, An Xuehua, Tian Yan and Liang Xiaohui.

Ms. Li Bin Escapes to U.S. and Recounts the Psychiatric Abuse She Suffered at Siping Mental Hospital in Jilin Province

My name is Li Bin and I was born on April 10, 1973, in Dongfeng County, Jilin Province. I began practicing Falun Gong in August 1996. I received a Master's degree from Dongbei University of Finance & Economics in August 1996, and I moved to Beijing to work later that same year.

I was illegally arrested in November 1999 at a Falun Gong experience sharing conference in Guangzhou City, and the police sent me to Siping Mental Hospital in Jilin Province in January 2000 because I wouldn't give up my belief. I was cruelly tortured. I was sentenced to one year of forced labor in April 2000, and I was subsequently held at Dongcheng Detention Center, Beijing Labor Reeducation Dispatch Division, and Xinan Women's Labor Camp in Beijing. I rubbed shoulders with death from constant abuse. I arrived in the US in July 2004.

I lost nearly all of my memory after one month of "treatment" at the mental hospital, and partial recovery took several years. Falun Gong is the only source of strength that enables me to maintain a healthy spirit and outlook on life today. I want to expose the methods of torture used in China so people can see what evil crimes the Communist regime commits against people.

I Was Held at Two Different Dongshan Detention Centers

I was arrested in November 1999 at a Falun Gong conference held in Guangzhou City, and I was taken to Dongshan Detention Center in Guangzhou City.

The police took me back to Jilin Province around December 26, 1999. The trip took a day and a night, and I was handcuffed the whole time. People gave me strange looks. The police told me to give up Falun Gong. They promised to release me immediately so I could spend the holidays with my family if I agreed to their condition. It was close to the Chinese New Year.

I refused, and they detained me at Dongshan Detention Center in Dongfeng County, Jilin Province. My parents and other relatives were extremely worried about me, because they had stopped hearing from me several months prior to this time. My mother suffered a near nervous breakdown, and her youthful look was replaced with an aged, weathered face. Her black hair gradually turned white.

My mother's mind was poisoned with the Communist Party's omnipresent and slanderous propaganda. When she visited me at the detention center, she begged me to give up Falun Gong. Sometimes she even knelt before me, screaming and crying.

The Police Held Me in Siping Mental Hospital

The police said they wouldn't release me unless I wrote a guarantee statement. They made my parents take me to Siping Mental Hospital by threatening them, saying that I would be incarcerated and sentenced to forced labor. I was completely unaware of the arrangements.

It was an extraordinarily cold day, and I walked in the snow in a pair of dilapidated shoes. My parents took me out but they never told me where we were going. I started to feel strange when we arrived at the front gate of the mental hospital, but my mother lied to me and said she needed to get an IV infusion at the hospital.

I followed her inside and we went to the third floor. I saw big, red characters "Department of Psychiatry" on the wall at the end of the hallway. I saw a small rectangular plate above each door frame, and someone took us into one room. My mother was so weak she could hardly walk. She collapsed in one bed and looked as if she was losing her mind. I sat on the edge of the bed.

I woke up at dawn the next day and started doing the sitting meditation on a bed across from my mother. About 20 minutes later, a woman in her 50s came in. I later learned she was the wife of a hospital official. She woke my mother up and started attacking me, saying, "Your mother is so sick and yet you are still practicing Falun Gong. What a terrible daughter! You probably have mental problems! The government has banned [Falun Gong], and you are so stubborn. You are so confused and lost." She tried to comfort my mother at the same time, saying "They [Falun Gong practitioners] all have obsessive-compulsive disorder. Don't worry, it'll take some time for her to get back to normal." I stopped the exercise and started to explain Falun Gong to her. She refused to listen and thought I was crazy.

A woman doctor called me out, saying she had some questions, and I thought it was a great opportunity to introduce Falun Gong to her. She took me to her office, sat across from me and asked me the exact same questions as the police, "When did you first begin practicing Falun Gong? How did you feel? The government has officially banned Falun Gong, so why are you still practicing it? Why do you insist that Falun Gong is absolutely right?" I gave her honest answers and hoped she would have a positive understanding of Falun Gong.

I was deceived into entering a psychiatric ward and injected with unknown drugs against my will.

I can't remember how many days my mother received IV infusions at the hospital. One morning, soon after the hospital opened, several doctors wearing white coats came to our room. Each doctor wore a nameplate. One male doctor in his 40s whose plate read "Head of the Department of Psychiatry" asked me some questions. Many of them were the same as the female doctor who had previously questioned me. He then lied to me and said, "Lots of doctors upstairs want to listen to you talk about Falun Gong. Just follow me." I didn't know it was a trap; I was happy that people wanted to hear the truth, so I followed him upstairs.

When I reached the top of the stairs, I saw a closed hallway and a large metal gate across from the stairwell. I thought, "It looks like a prison gate" when the doctor opened the gate and I followed him inside. Before I could do anything, the gate clanged shut behind me. I immediately turned around and pounded on the gate, screaming, "Let me out!" I was near desperation.

Several doctors forcibly carried me into a room at the end of the hallway. The hallway was very long, dark, and terrifying. It was even more frightening than prison. I instantly had a flashback to Dongshan Detention Center in Guangzhou, where I was carried into a cell. What took place at the mental hospital, however, was much worse than at the detention center.

Inside the room, they tied me to a bed with white ropes, and I couldn't free myself despite my most vigorous struggles. Several of them held down my arm and injected me, with what I never knew. I tried to fight them and stay awake, but within two minutes, my mind had ground to a halt and I lost consciousness.

It was dark when I opened my eyes and I had been unconscious for nearly a whole day. I was awakened by loud noises. I looked around and saw six beds. I was greeted with strange people with odd looks in their eyes. I realized I was among mental patients.

I told myself that I could not stay there. I must get out. I went on a hunger strike and they injected me with another drug. The doctor said, "We can't let you starve to death; we'll provide you with nutrition." I thought that I shouldn't be tortured in their hands as I must safeguard the Fa. I didn't know what to do and I resumed eating.

I was forced to ingest large quantities of medications.

I found out the psychiatry department took up the entire floor. Restrooms and about six patient wards were on both sides of the hallway. The largest room was at the end of the hall with about 20 beds. The other rooms each had about seven beds. All of about 70 patients had to report in the big room the first thing in the morning, and we were forced to sit in there all day long.

We sat on the edge of beds, very similar to sitting on small stools, [a torture method] at detention centers and prisons. The only difference was I didn't have to take unknown drugs at the detention center.

After all the patients had sat upright, the head doctor led several doctors and they came in to inspect the group. They were followed by a nurse, who pushed a medication cart. When the doctors got in front of someone, the nurse would hand a bunch of pills and a glass of water to the patient. The doctors watched the patient swallow all the pills. Afterwards, the patient had to bow his head, stick out his tongue, and make some noise to show that the pills had indeed been downed. This daily routine was repeated without exception. I don't know how many pills I was forced to take, but I know there were sedatives and sleeping pills.

I also had to take another handful of pills before bed each day.

No one dared to refuse the drugs, because otherwise the doctors would tie him to a bed and administer electric shock therapy to his head. I had stopped taking pills ever since I started to practice Falun Gong in 1996. During the one month I was held at the hospital I felt I had taken more pills than I had ever had in my whole life.

    Electric shock to the head

Electric shock therapy is one of the most common treatment methods used at the hospital. One day, I saw a patient tied to her bed while still asleep. A large piece of equipment was set up next to the bed. It was the same height as the bed and about two thirds of the width of the bed. It was plugged into a flat board about two palms' size. Several doctors held the board on top of the patient's head and started the machine. The deafening noise made by the equipment sent chills down my spine. The patient, however, was completely unaware of her plight. She did not wake up but her head shook violently and her mouth foamed. I said, "That's so sad." A patient said to me, "You were even more pitiful than she is. I saw you being shocked several times and you looked exactly like that."

"How come I didn't know about it?"

"How could they let you know? No one knows it when they are shocked. They always shock you when you are sleeping. You had it much worse than her. After you were shocked, you were delirious when you went to the restroom. You held yours pants (the patient uniform was too large and sometimes I had to hold up my pants) and could not walk straight."

That's horrific! I couldn't imagine how they were able to shock my head without my knowledge. I had no clue. I wouldn't have known the cause of my death if they had electrocuted me!

I don't know how many times the doctors shocked me. My mind was almost numb from forced drug abuse, and I didn't have the heart to figure out how much damage was done to my brain.

    Daily Routine

The monotonous daily routine at the hospital consisted of waking up, eating breakfast, taking drugs, sitting on the edge of bed, eating lunch, taking a nap, electric shock, eating dinner, and taking drugs. Gradually, I developed reflexes like the other patients, and I mechanically followed the doctors' and nurses' orders.

I don't remember taking a shower at the hospital, but I know the time allotted to wash oneself was not longer at the hospital than at the Beijing Labor Reeducation Dispatch Division. We were allowed a set amount of toilet paper. My mind had deteriorated from excessive pills and electric shock, and everything went by in a blur. I felt as if I was living in another world, and when I talked, it was as if I was listening to someone else.

We ate group meals and we stood in line to wait for our food. Many times the patients had scuffles over food. A patient who had been in the hospital for a long time was responsible for distributing the food. She lived in the same room as me and she knew that I had been brought in because I practiced Falun Gong. She was especially caring toward me and she always saved lots of food for me, more than I could eat.

She told me, "Ha Jingbo (a teacher at my mother's school who also practiced Falun Gong) has just been released. She also suffered a great deal here. I know you are good people. Just stop practicing since the government has banned it. Why are you asking for trouble? You can't fight the government." Even mental patients knew Falun Gong was good.

Some patients talked about things happening in their lives when we sat in bed. They were very kind toward me and they offered me rare and expensive food their families had brought them. I couldn't eat their food because they were suffering themselves.

I had to confront different situations late at night. Once when I was sleeping, I was awakened by some noise, and I saw a girl had pulled out all of my underwear and was putting them on her one by one. I was startled. The woman who shared the room with me was also awakened. She saw that I was scared. She grabbed the girl's hair and beat her. She stopped only after I shouted, "Stop the beating!" repeatedly. I later realized the girl was sleepwalking.

I'm not sure that I would have remained sane in that environment if it weren't for my unwavering faith in Falun Gong.

    "Head doctor" Wang Kai

Wang Kai was the head doctor who dealt with me directly. I can't remember how often I received "caring visits" from him. It seemed like he came all the time. A group of doctors, including Wang Kai, always verbally insulted the patients and attacked them where it hurt the most. They never treated the patients as human beings but as defective freaks.

Wang Kai believed the Communist Party's propaganda but he could never achieve his goal of making me give up my belief despite how many times he talked to me. He claimed I had severe "obsessive-compulsive disorder," abbreviated OCD.

Surprise visit from my younger sister

The hospital usually doesn't allow family visits; they had rules more strict than labor camps. Occasionally, someone is permitted to meet with her family, and the other people are green with envy.

One day, a nurse shouted my name, "Li Bin, someone's here for you." I thought it was strange, but I followed the nurse from the big room to my bedroom. My sister and her boyfriend were waiting there. My sister said through her tears, "Why are you doing this? You can come home if you will just say that you quit!" Her boyfriend also asked me to be smart and protect myself. I told them how I had benefited physically and mentally from Falun Gong practice.

I asked my sister how she was able to get past the strict rules and visit me. She said she had sent gifts to head doctor Wang Kai and she also took him out to meals before he approved this visit.

    Suffering continues after mental hospital

Several days after the visit from my sister, which was nearly a month after I had first arrived at the hospital, the doctors and my parents appeared in front of me. They said I was going home. I really wanted to get out of that dreadful place. I learned later that Falun Gong practitioner Ha Jingbo, my mother's colleague, was about to be brought in, and they didn't want us together because they feared we would give each other strength to uphold our faith.

After I went home, I didn't get the peace I had hoped for. I couldn't sleep the first night, because I was suffering from withdrawal symptoms after abruptly stopping large batches of drugs including sleeping pills. The insomnia continued night after night. My eye sockets sunk and I lost weight. I cannot describe my anguish at that time.

It lasted for a few days and I reached my limit. One day I picked up an English dictionary and saw many familiar words, yet I could not remember their meanings. I suddenly realized that I had lost my memory. I cried. I tried very hard to recall everything that had happened before the mental hospital, but I was shocked that I couldn't remember fellow practitioners' names and faces. I couldn't remember how I went to the hospital, and I completely forgot about the wonderful time during the Falun Gong conference in Guangzhou. I felt so helpless I almost lost my mind.

I couldn't find even one Falun Gong book, which severely obstructed my practice and caused me great pain. I also endured emotional damage at the hands of my boyfriend. I was under so much pressure it almost sent me over the edge. I could hardly breathe.

During that period, I constantly let out deep sighs despite myself, as it was the only way to relieve some pressure. I even started to count the strands of my hair and tug on my fingernails like a real mental patient. Maybe I did it in order to distract myself. Nothing could pull me back up, yet miraculously, the words "Falun Dafa," "Truth-Compassion-Forbearance," and my boyfriend's name and phone number appeared in my head. Before I went to the mental hospital, I could remember all of my contacts' phone numbers, but now only my boyfriend's phone number came to me.

The police and officials from the Politics and Law Committee came to my home every few days to "visit" me and show "concern" for me. They were in fact trying to find out my state of mind. My mother blocked them outside and wouldn't let them see me, because she knew they would definitely ask me about writing a guarantee statement. I couldn't stay home forever and I needed a job. My mother reluctantly let me go back to Beijing, and I escaped from the police.

Retired Geologist Persecuted for Practicing Falun Gong

Ms. Geng Liang, 67 years old, is retired from the Prospecting Research Institute of China Coal Field Geology Bureau. Since Ms. Geng persisted in practicing Falun Gong and following the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance", she was severely persecuted both physically and mentally.

Around July 23, 1999 (immediately after the persecution of Falun Gong officially began) police from Zhuozhou City Police Department, Hebei Province started to monitor Ms. Geng's activities. This lasted until the middle of August 1999. During this period, she was brought in and interrogated several times, and was forced to declare on a local television broadcast that she would give up the practice of Falun Gong.

Later, Ms. Geng went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing to appeal, but police arrested her. She was detained in Tiananmen Square Police Station and Xie Yubao, a section chief and other policemen from Zhuozhou City Police Department took her back to Zhuozhou City. She and over a dozen other practitioners were detained in two rooms and tortured. The police seemed to enjoy beating up practitioners. They asked practitioners to give up practicing Falun Gong, and if anyone refused, they would beat them. The rooms were filled with the sound of sticks banging and breaking, mixed with practitioners' screaming and policemen's roaring. Many practitioners were injured or paralyzed due to the beating. Practitioner Mr. Dong Hanjie was forced to kneel down on two wooden sticks with sharp edges and was beaten up. Dong's face was black and blue all over, and he was not allowed to eat or drink until midnight.

Later, Ms. Geng and all the other practitioners were detained in the detention centers. On the cold morning (16°F) of December 17, 1999, police tied up Ms. Geng and another practitioner, Ms. Ma Youxia, with hemp rope and hung a black sign that said "criminal suspect" around their necks. They were put on the back of a truck and paraded around the streets. This was recorded and televised on Zhuozhou TV for three consecutive days.

In January 2000, Ms. Geng's company bailed her out. The section chief of the Zhuozhou City Police Department , Xie Yubao, extorted 10,000 yuan from Ms. Geng's company. Ms. Geng's salary for January 2000, which amounted to about 1,700 yuan was not paid.

In the middle of September, 2002, while Ms. Geng was taking care of her 96-year-old father in his home in Jinan City, Shandong Province, policemen Zhang and Yang from Zhuozhou City Police Department, Jiang Hongxue, Security Division Chief of Geology Bureau, Zhao Kerong from Prospecting Research Institute, Yang Xueling, Security Section Chief of Prospecting Research Institute, and Driver Liu Xuerang and his brother came to Ms. Geng's father's home and arrested her, and then took her back to Zhuozhou City. She was detained in a special prison set up just for brainwashing Falun Gong practitioners. She suffered from brainwashing and mental torture. She was forced to watch a video that defamed Falun Gong, and to write a letter to denounce Falun Gong.

The brainwashing center was a special prison located in the hotel affiliated with the Mechanical Factory of Geology Bureau. In the room, the bathroom door was removed and a bed sheet was hanging in its place. The hallway was blocked with doors and the room near the exit door was occupied by the police or state security agencies. They monitored the place around the clock. Practitioners were not allowed to go out of their rooms except for meals. The police on duty at night slept with their beds against the door. Two people from Beijing came especially to help set up the brainwashing center. They were meaner than the local policemen. Ms. Geng's work place, Prospecting Research Institute, was forced to cover all the brainwashing expenses, including the expense of the two persons from Beijing, which totaled over 40,000 yuan.

It was reported by related personnel that Xie Yubao from the Zhuozhou City Police Department often came to the Prospecting Research Institute to have meals, extort money and valuable items, which totaled over 10,000 yuan. They also forced the top officials of the Prospecting Research Institute to write guarantee letters to prevent Ms. Geng from appealing, and if they refused to do so, the officials were threatened with fines and the loss of their jobs. They tried to use these means to build up hatred between officials and Falun Gong practitioners, and to turn public opinion against Falun Gong.

Ms. Song Ping from Shenzhen Imprisoned Again After Serving Unjust Five-year Sentence

On October 30, in order to find a job in Shenzhen, practitioner Ms. Song Ping, who had been "illegally imprisoned" for five years went to the local police station to handle an ID. The police arrested her. It is believed that Ms. Song is now being held in the Shenzhen Brainwashing Center.

Ms. Song, from the Futian District, Shenzhen City, is 40 years old and unmarried. Before the persecution began in July 1999, she was the coordinator at the Futian District exercise site. After Jiang's regime started the persecution in 1999, in order to restore the reputation of Falun Gong and clarify the truth, she went to Tiananmen Square to appeal for Falun Gong and unfold banners many times. After she was arrested, she was sentenced to one and a half years. She was released on April 25, 2001.

In June 2001, because Ms. Song distributed truth-clarification materials in Nanjing, she was arrested and sentenced to five years. This time she was sent to the women's prison at Haodong Road 63, Nantong City, Jiangsu Province. In prison, she firmly safeguarded Falun Gong, was not "transformed," and suffered severe persecution. (There is a report on Clearwisdom.net on May 30, 2006. See /emh/articles/2006/5/30/73910.html) In July 2006, she was released at the end of the sentence and went to her brother's home.

Ms. Li Miaoneng Disabled from Severe Torture in Detention Center

Ms. Li Miaochun, a Falun Gong practitioner from Luoyang City, Henan Province, was illegally detained in the No. 4 Cell of the First Row in the Eastern Area of the Custodial Station in Luoyang City. Police Officer Huang Yan and criminal inmate Liu Chunzhi severely tortured her. She was disabled as a result of their severe beating. She is now paralyzed and unable to take care of herself. The Intermediate Court in Luoyang City sentenced her to five years in prison and they are preparing to secretly send her to Xinxiang Women's Prison in Henan Province.

Ms. Li has been arrested and detained several times for practicing Falun Gong. In June 2000 she went to Beijing to clarify the truth about Falun Gong. After she returned home, she was arrested and sent to the Custodial Station in Yanshi City, where she was detained for a month. When she arrived home upon her release, she found that all her belongings, valued at one hundred thousand yuan, had been confiscated by perpetrators in the village. In 2001 she was detained twice and held for a month each time. In June 2002 she was sentenced to two years of forced labor and was sent to Shibalihe Women's Labor Camp in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, where she was tortured so severely that she was on the brink of death. They then notified her family to take her home. Because the authorities in her local village kept harassing her, she was forced to leave home and became destitute and homeless.

In October 2005 she was arrested again. The police in Jianxi District brutally tortured her. She is still in the detention center in Luoyang City. Her daughter, Zhang Xiumei, who lived with her after they re-united, was also arrested and detained in the detention center.

In November 2005, soon after Ms Li was sent to the labor camp, Police Instructor Huang Yan instigated criminal inmate Liu Chunzhi to lead other inmates to torture Ms Li. They repeatedly stomped on her legs and broke her left leg. They did not allow her to see a doctor, and a muscle in her left leg atrophied. She is now unable to stand.

In the winter of 2005 Liu Chunzhi and some other inmates dragged Ms. Li to the toilet and poured cold water all over her. They tortured her like this repeatedly, and she fainted four times.

On the seventh day after the New Year 2006, Liu Chunzhi led other people drag Ms. Li to an open area outside, where they savagely stomped on her chest and beat her. The ribs of her left side were fractured, and she spit up a large amount of blood. Policewoman Huang Yan showed a total lack of concern and didn't even notify Ms. Li's family.

In June 2006 Liu Chunzhi and some other inmates again dragged Ms Li to the bathroom and forced her to work there, even though she was disabled from previous beatings and had broken bones. Ms. Li was not able to work, but Liu Chunzhi said she was pretending, and she led others to beat her again. This time they injured her right arm. Ms. Li lost feeling in her right arm and can no longer move it.

Unknown substances were put into Ms. Li's food. She became dizzy after eating, so she didn't dare eat again. She became severely emaciated, with a hoarse voice, and couldn't speak properly. Her hearing was damaged as well. Even under such circumstances, Liu Chunzhi hit Ms. Li on the head and face many times.

Towards the end of June or the beginning of July 2006, Ms. Li fainted. Policewoman Huang Yan sent her to the hospital. A medical exam showed broken ribs, but Huang Yan was not concerned and didn't even notify Ms Li's family.

Ms. Li's family put 700 or 800 yuan into her account, but she couldn't walk around and didn't buy anything. She saw a doctor once and spent about 100 yuan, but this money came out of her daughter Zhang Xiumei's account. All her money has disappeared.
