  • The Crimes Against Falun Gong Practitioners Committed by the Labor Camp Bureau in Inner Mongolia

Since Jiang's gang launched the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, the Labor Camp Bureau of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (LCBIMAR) has become the headquarters for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. In the past seven years, officers from the LCBIM have continued to give orders to officials at the Tumuji Forced Labor Camp on the east side of Inner Mongolia (IMAR), to the Women's Labor Camp in the center of IMAR and also to the Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp on the west side of IMAR. These are the primary three labor camps in IMAR where many Falun Gong practitioners are imprisoned. Many persecution incidents that happened in these three labor camps were planned and directed by LCBIMAR.

The evildoing people who have been involved in these incidents include Wu Liji, about 50 and a Mongolian; the former chief of LCBIMAR and the current Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Committee Secretary in LCBIMAR, Song Jianping (about 40); the deputy chief of LCBIMAR, Chai Jianzhong (about 40 years old); the chief of the Education Department of LCBIMAR, Wei Shulin, (about 50); the chief of the Instruction Section of LCBIMAR, Zhang Yuxi; the chief of a section of LCBIMAR, and other chiefs of other sections at the LCBIMAR.

The following is a summary of the LCBIMAR's crimes:

    1. LCBIMAR Urged the Labor Camps to Reform Falun Gong Practitioners

At the onset of the persecution, practitioners from IMAR were jailed in about ten labor camps all over IMAR. Due to practitioners clarifying the truth, most guards in the labor camps learned the truth and had sympathy for practitioners. Some chiefs and other leaders in the labor camps even praised practitioners and tried to help them. The rate of "reformation" in the first few months of the persecution was almost zero.

Because of this, LCBIMAR set the Women's Forced Labor Camp to be the special camp to intensively reform Falun Gong practitioners. The intensity of reform increased several months later. The government published a book about their experiences of reforming practitioners. Actually, their experience is to use the tricks that the CCP has been using for several decades. This includes threats/intimidation and lies, exerting mental pressure, brainwashing, torture, beating with electric batons, depriving of sleep, and so on. Ms. Zhang Ziru, a 20-year old young woman, had a torture-induced mental breakdown.

In September 2000, Chai Jianzhong and Wei Shulin, LCBIMAR officials, transferred all Falun Gong practitioners in labor camps into the west area of IMAR, to the Wuyuan Labor Camp (the former Dongtucheng Labor Camp, which the government spent several million yuan to enlarge. Construction was completed in November 2001, and its name was changed to Wuyuan.) Chai and Wei stayed at the Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp and taught the guards in the camp how to "reform" Falun Gong practitioners. They tried to brainwash Falun Gong practitioners. Practitioners had to take the so-called "law courses" in which the guards slandered Falun Gong. Practitioners had to do the so-called homework, in which they had to feel guilty about practicing Falun Gong and curse it and its founder.

In one brainwashing class a female guard asked Ms. Zhao Lizhi to recite the items in the Chinese constitution. Zhao said that she could not remember them. She also said that the constitution did not protect practitioners' rights. At 7:00 p.m., Zhao was taken to an office. Chai Jianzhong, Wei Shulin, Mu Jianfeng (deputy chief and political head of the labor camp), Liu Baohua (chief of the education section), and Wei Yuzhi (head of the fourth team) beat and kicked Zhao. They beat her with rubber batons and electric batons. They forced her to write a "guarantee letter" renouncing Falun Gong.

The guards beat Zhao from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and her blood was all over the floor. Finally, Zhao gave in and wrote the guarantee letters. The evildoing people from LCBIMAR taught the guards at Wuyuan Labor Camp how to use violence to reform practitioners by using the example of Ms. Zhao.

Ms. Zhao's torture not only became an example of how to "reform" practitioners, it also gave the guards the idea that they have permission to beat practitioners. This is what is behind the reason for guards in the Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp to frequently torture practitioners. Later, people from LCBIMAR went to the Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp many times and planned and directed many torture incidents. Some torture incidents happened after the guards at the Wuyuan Camp got instructions from the LCBIMAR.

Numerous practitioners have been insulted and tortured for their beliefs. In a letter written by a practitioner and secretly smuggled out of the labor camp contains the following paragraph:

"He took me to the lobby on the morning of February 24, 2002. Eight or nine guards, including Zhao Naiwei, Zhang Tiefeng, Zhao Qian, Wang Donglei, Liu Weidong, Liu Yuelong, Yan Wenjun and Zhang Dahu were there. They forced me to take off my coat. Li Weidong gagged me with a towel and tied my hands behind my back. Then they shocked me on the ears, face and neck with electric batons.

The electric batons sparked and made noise, and the electric shocks made my head shake continuously. Being tied up, my body was unable to move. I fell down. They turned my body over and shocked my forehead and ears.

I bit the towel and endured the extreme pain. They shocked me with electric batons for thirty minutes, but I didn't give in. They untied me, but I was too weak to move. They mocked me while fiercely twisting, swinging and pulling my arms.

A few minutes later they tied me up once more and beat me with the electric batons again, beating my head with three batons. The electric shocks made my head shake. Since I refused to give in, they beat my forehead with two batons. I could even see the electric sparks with my eyes closed.

One guard took off my pants. Li Weidong started shocking my belly. Later, he took off my underwear and shocked my anus with the electric baton. None of the other guards stopped him!

They kept beating me with the batons. The electric shocks impacted my head and pushed my head back and forth on the ground. It was extremely painful, but I didn't give in."

    2. "The superior level will take the responsibility if Falun Gong practitioners are beaten to death." This Made the Guards Torture Practitioners Without Regard for Consequences

After two years of brutal torture, none of the fifty practitioners who were jailed in Wuyuan Labor Camp were "reformed." So, several government officials, including the ones from the LCBIMAR, came to the Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp on August 27, 2002 and held a conference to urge the guards to escalate the persecution. They ordered the rate of "transformation" to be 100%. They also made detailed "transformation" plans.

In the 2nd Group, guard Zhong Zhiyuan showed an electric baton to the criminals and yelled, "You guys must help reform them. If they are not reformed, then this electric baton will not just be used on them, but also on you."

In this way, all guards and criminals were urged to persecute practitioners, and the brutal tortures began. For many days in a row, people could hear the sounds of beating with electric batons. Many practitioners were held in solitary cells. Numerous practitioners were forced to stand straight for a long time, which made their legs swollen. The evildoing people kept picking up an elderly practitioner named Ms. Yang Yufeng and throwing her onto the ground. They also poked her legs with steel needles. The criminals kept beating Ms. Feng Tianzhi for three whole days. During a one-month segment of intense torture many practitioners were badly injured.

The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in the Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp during the past seven years has never stopped. To date, there are still some practitioners, including a seventy year-old man held in solitary cells. (See the detailed information on the Clearwisdom.net website).

In September 2000, all the practitioners who were in the labor camps in the eastern part of IMAR were sent to the Tumuji Forced Labor Camp. There are men and women's groups there that hold many practitioners, and the persecution there is extremely cruel under the direction of LCBIMAR.

On November 17, 2001, seventy practitioners went on a protest hunger strike. They did this because the evildoing people had badly beaten practitioner Fu Guiying, who was around 70 years old. This shocked everyone in LCBIMAR. Tumuji Labor Camp chief Zhu Jijun was at a conference held by the LCBIMAR. The head of the LCBIMAR told Zhu that he should be tough on the practitioners who were on the hunger strike, and if something happened, the CCP regime would take the responsibility. So, Zhu and three section heads from the LCBIMAR, including Zhang Yuxi, rushed back to Tumuji Labor Camp and started an even more brutal persecution.

Ms. Ma Xiuqin refused to read articles that slandered Falun Gong and Master, so Zhang Yuxi, the section head from the LCBIMAR, along with Li, a section head of the labor team in Tumuji Labor Camp and three other guards, took her to an empty room and beat her badly. They rubbed her handcuffed hands against the handcuffs, then tied her hands behind her back and hung her up until she lost consciousness.

When she came to, they took her down and then repeated the process seven or eight times. They also pushed her against the ground and beat her head with electric batons. She was tortured like that for two hours. Although she experienced numbness in one hand following this gross torture, they still made her do manual labor.

Hu Sumin was also taken to an empty room and subjected to a similar torture.

Dozens of practitioners were severely tortured. Some of them were hung up by their handcuffs. Some were beaten with electric batons. Assistant camp chief Xiao XX lied to practitioners in a meeting, saying that the tortures would stop. But even when the meeting was in session, people could still hear the beating and noises from the electric batons in the solitary cells. More than ten guards, including Wu Hongxia, Wang Guirong, Luo Jinfang, Na Renhua, Liu Qihua, Yang Jie, Liu Yuhua and a male guard beat practitioner Jiao Yuxia severely.

Officers from the LCBIMAR, including Chai Jianzhong, Wei Shulin and Song Jianping, often visited the labor camps to inspect the progress of the "transformation." When they talked to practitioners, their most often used threat was, "You will die if you don't reform." To get promotions and financial rewards, every few months they started another large scale persecution to "reform" practitioners. They then ordered every practitioner to write a guarantee letter and held a conference in which people slandered and attacked Falun Gong. They also invited media reporters to report on the conference and activities. LCBIMAR chief Wu Liji attends each and every conference and Falun Gong-slandering activity and personally directs the persecution. For example, the evil people from LCBIMAR organized and attended a third conference attacking Falun Gong, held at Wuyuan in March 2001, as well as the fourth conference at Tumuji in July 2001, and all the conferences in Hohhot City.

Since the LCBIMAR is located in Hohhot, the persecution in Hohhot is especially savage and well planned. The evildoers hung up a pregnant practitioner and beat her with electric batons. One practitioner's vagina was swollen and bleeding due to kicking. These persecutors put an iron bit in some practitioners' mouths to facilitate force-feeding them. In a LCBIMAR-organized conference in December 2001, dozens of guards held electric batons in the conference hall. Several practitioners were pushed against the ground, in plain view of many attending government officials. Guards gagged them with towels, took them to the next room and beat them with electric batons. The conference, however, continued.

Human language cannot describe the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners by evildoing people from the LCBIMAR during the last seven years. They will most certainly be brought to justice.

Ms. Xiong Yuhua, 60, from Sichuan Province Was Incriminated, Arrested and Imprisoned on False Charges

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xiong Yuhua of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province was arrested by staff of the security section from her work unit and local police at midnight on March 12, 2004. She has been held in detention since then. In June 2005 her husband was finally able to meet with her in person at the Chenghua District Court. She was in poor condition as a result of the torture. In August, Xiong Yuhua was illegally sentenced to imprisonment and was sent to Sichuan Province Women's Prison. No visitation was allowed. The prison authorities said it was a decision made by Xiong Yuhua's work unit and the local government.

Xiong Yuhua is 60 years old and was an electrician in the Mechanical and Electric Department of Hongming Electronics Limited Corporation. Because of fatigue from the work and the handling of hazardous organic solvents, she had been in very poor health and had numerous diseases such as hepatitis, gastritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and vertigo. In the summer, she could not be exposed to the sun for too long, and in winter she could not stand the cold weather. She tried to avoid coming into contact with cold water. When she combed her hair, she could not even raise her arms over her shoulder. She fainted several times at work. Taking medication for years hadn't helped at all. In 1997, she started practicing Falun Gong and all her health problems disappeared. She became healthy and strong and was able to perform heavy labor.

On March 12, 2004, Zhang Yongchang, the security section head of Hongming Corporation and Liu Chuanxiang, a staff member in charge of ID archives at Jianshe Road Police Station led a group of people to Xiong Yuhua's residential building at midnight. By lying to Xiong by saying that they came to "check the toilet leakage," Liu Chuanxiang asked Xiong to open the door. The gang then rushed in and ransacked her home. They handcuffed her and attempted to take her away. Xiong's husband asked where they were from and demanded to see official documents. They claimed that they were from "the 1st Division of the City Police Department" and refused to answer his questions about official documents. Xiong's husband would not allow them to take his wife away. Liu Chuangxiang had to reveal that they were staff members from the local police station and Xiong's work unit, and then they took her away.

After the arrest, Xiong's husband went to the CCP committee and Security Section of Hongming Electronics Limited Corporation, Neighborhood Committee, Retirees' Office, Jianshe Road Police Station, City Police Department, and the Chenghua District Police Department to inquire about the illegal arrest of Xiong Yuhua. The answers he got from them were always "don't know." They also didn't allow Xiong's husband to ask about details.

Three days later, Caotang Police Station authorities delivered the document for interrogation approval and notice of detention to Xiong's home. Xiong's husband then went to Caotang Police Station to inquire about the reason for the arrest. The police denied that Xiong Yuhua was held there. It was not until Xiong's husband presented the interrogation approval document that they admitted it. They then asked Xiong's husband to go talk to the people directly involved in the arrest and detention. Her husband made an effort to find these people and demanded a reason. He further asked why these people who didn't have any jurisdiction in Qingyang District came to arrest Xiong in Qingyang District. They answered that they were "implementing a task commissioned to them." Xiong's husband demanded to see Xiong Yuhua. His request was rejected.

More than ten days after the arrest, Xiong's husband received a letter that Xiong Yuhua had written to him from the detention center. In the letter, she asked her husband to send her clothes, bedding, shoes and money.

In April, Xiong's husband received another letter from Xiong saying the clothes, blanket, shoes and money had been received, but Xiong Yuhua has not been heard from since. All commodities sent to her were received by someone else who imitated her handwriting to sign a receipt.

Ms. Xiong's husband did not see his wife until June 2005 at Chenghua District Court. However, he didn't even have a chance to talk to her. Xiong Yuhua was in bad condition when her husband saw her in court.

In August, Xiong Yuhua was sentenced to prison and sent to Sichuan Province Women's Prison, and no visitation was allowed. In order to seek the right of visitation, Xiong's husband talked to the authorities of the court, the jurisdiction department, and the Provincial Prison Bureau. They all promised that visitation was allowed. Two weeks later, staff from the prison called Xiong's daughter and told her she was allowed to visit her mother.

Ms. Xiong's husband and daughter then went to visit Xiong together. The head of the eighth prison ward specifically warned them not to mention anything about Falun Gong during the visitation and forced them to agree before they were allowed to see her. Then, father and daughter were able to see Xiong Yuhua in a glass walled room.

Xiong Yuhua told them that after she was arrested, the evildoers took her to a hotel and handcuffed her to a chair. They shone a search light and infrared light into her eyes and onto her body. She was interrogated for three days and nights in a row with this kind of torture. Xiong's eyes were seriously hurt. Now she could only see the silhouette of a person, but could not see the person's face clearly. Xiong's husband found that Xiong's facial features and body had changed a lot due to the torture.

Soon after that, Zhang Yongchang, the head of the security department of Hongming Corporation explained to Xiong's husband that Xiong had been arrested because she went outside to involve herself in Falun Gong activities and they had evidence of it. Xiong's husband refuted that Xiong had been doing household chores at home and had never gone out. He demanded to see the evidence. Zhang then asked Xiong's husband to reveal Xiong's activities outside and to reveal the organization of local Falun Gong practitioners. Xiong's husband replied, "Falun Gong does not have any organization. Xiong Yuhua had been doing household chores at home the entire time. She had not gone outside at all." Zhang insisted that Falun Gong had an organization and insisted on saying that Xiong's husband was aware of her activities. He attempted to force Xiong's husband to state it.

Before Xiong's husband was able to see Xiong in court, he was very worried about her because there was no way to communicate with her at all. He went to Caotang Police Station of Qingyang Police Department to inquire about his wife's situation. The employees at the police station were totally unreasonable. They told Xiong's husband that they didn't know anything and that Xiong had been transferred. Xiong's husband asked, "You were the ones who arrested her and you issued the warrant for her arrest. How can you say you don't know anything? I, as the family member, am completely justified to be informed of her situation." A police said to him, "Go sue us. You may even sue us in the central government." Another elder policeman told Xiong's husband to go to the regional 610 Office.

Xiong's husband then went to Chenghua District 610 Office. A deputy director surnamed Qian met him. He didn't allow Xiong's husband to say anything and he even said, "You are associated with Falun Gong. I will not listen to your words at all." The director also said, "I know the situation about you and your wife very well. If you can follow my words, I may treat her case lightly or even repeal her case. If you follow my words, you two can talk to each other."

Xiong's husband certainly refused to follow his words. He went to attempt to talk to Zhao Degui, the secretary of CCP Committee of Hongming Electronics Limited Corporation numerous times. However, Zhao always found excuses to avoid meeting with him.

When Xiong Yuhua was about to appear in court, a retired official came to Xiong's home and attempted to persuade Xiong's husband. He said, "It is for stability and for the need of the Communist Party to crack down on Falun Gong. You are a Communist Party member. You must tell a lie for the Party as required by the Party." Wasn't this a frame-up to persecute Xiong Yuhua?

In court, Xiong was sentenced based on false charges. She was sentenced to three years and six months imprisonment and was sent to Sichuan Province Women's Prison in August 2005.

Xiong's husband talked to the judge Song Kui before the court hearing. He wanted to defend his wife. The judge said, "I may approve your request for any other case, but I cannot approve it for Falun Gong cases." Later Xiong's husband decided to appeal. Song told him only the defendant himself or herself may appeal during a given time limit. Xiong's husband immediately wrote to Xiong and told her the regulations regarding the appeal. When Xiong's husband met Xiong during visitation in the prison he learned that she had not received the letter until the last day of the deadline. The letter was held by the authorities at the detention center and the prison. She was not able to appeal because it was already the last day and it was too late.

A Sample of Crimes Committed by Guards at Masanjia Forced Labor Camp During 2005 and the First Half of 2006

Su Jing, female, is the director of the 2nd Women's Branch of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, also called the Mind Education School of Liaoning Province. On March 31, 2005, a "Strict Management Group" was set up in the Second Women's Branch. Li Mingyu, group leader, began to torture practitioners. Practitioners had to wake up at 5:00 a.m. and were given only five minutes to get ready. After that they had to sit on a small stool without moving for a long time. Practitioners had to sit straight, with their hands on their legs, and not move or talk. Those who did not obey were beaten. Some practitioners' buttocks bled because of the prolonged sitting. Yet, they still weren't allowed to move.

The guards wouldn't allow practitioners to shower, wash their clothes, visit with family members, make phone calls, or write. Practitioners couldn't buy food and had to eat bread provided by the prison, which often had rat secretions in it. Guards often stripped practitioners, and searched their clothes and all their belongings. If they found Master Li's articles, they would extend practitioners' sentences. The guards all wear gloves and face-masks because they hate the bad smell of the practitioners who were not allowed to shower. When in the Strict Managing Group, guards often illegally confiscated practitioners' belongings. Almost all practitioners' rooms and bathrooms have surveillance cameras. Many practitioners were tortured in a small dark isolated room. There was nothing in this small room except a large speaker tuned to the highest volume during broadcasting. The regulation was to let practitioners use the bathroom three times a day and eat three meals. However, many guards were lazy. They just gave each practitioner in the small room a bucket and collected the buckets at certain times. Sometimes they locked two or three practitioners in one small room and didn't give them enough bread. Practitioners often went hungry. From April to July of 2005, two practitioners died of torture in Masanjia. One of them was Ms. Li Baojie. The director, Su Jing, told the public that everything was civilized and legal in the camp and that there was no secret torture. Yet, the torture never stopped. Practitioner Ms. Jiang Guiyun was cuffed on a death bed for over six months and suffered greatly under the torture.

Wang Naiming, female, was the political commissioner of the 2nd Women's Branch. She often used foul language and ordered guards to intensify the persecution of practitioners. In March 2006, she cut practitioners Ms. Yan Chunjiao, Ms. Lin Xiuqin, and Ms. Teng Shiyun's hair, trying to make them look ridiculous.

Li Mingyu, female, captain of the Strict Managing Group, often beat and electrically shocked practitioners. She often illegally prolonged practitioners' sentences and put them in solitary confinement. In April 2005, she and Ding Taiyong, a medical doctor, and a few guards force-fed a practitioner and caused the practitioner's death. They told the public that the practitioner died of acid intoxication.

Xiang Bofeng, female, was in charge of broadcasting and playing videos. She often forced practitioners who renounced Falun Gong to tell their personal experiences, insult Falun Gong, and show admiration for the CCP. She played videos that defamed Falun Gong in an effort to brainwash practitioners. She also played instruction videos of other types of qigong and forced practitioners to learn them. She played songs from revolutionary times -- the 50s and 60s -- daily and tuned the volume to the loudest level possible. Some practitioners became dizzy because of the high volume. She often watched practitioners from the monitoring room and reported practitioners to the captain for more torture.

Bai Li, female, is a staff worker who sells goods in the 2nd Women's Branch. Guards forced everyone to put ten yuan on a payment card and then to spend the money. Bai Li always sells inferior or expired goods at high prices. Bai doesn't put the price on the goods and gets angry when asked. She only swipes the card and tells the amount left on the card and never gives receipts. She often programmed the computer so that she could charge the practitioners extra.

Cao Yujie, female, was a nurse in the 2nd Women's Branch. Her job was to help guards torture practitioners. She often added excessive salt, drugs, and cold water to the "food" used to force-feed practitioners. She always overfed the practitioners. Sometimes practitioners vomited because of too much being pumped into their stomachs. Cao would pick up their vomit and re-inject it back into the practitioners' stomachs, scolding them.

Ding Taiyong, male, was a medical doctor in the 2nd Women's Branch. He had no medical ethics and often used practitioners as his guinea pigs. He forcibly did acupuncture on practitioner Ms. Feng Suhua. He covered for the guards and ignored the wounds on practitioners from guard brutality. He often defamed the founder of Falun Gong in front of the practitioners. He also often mis-diagnosed the practitioners who were tortured and said that they were healthy. He beat practitioners, including Ms. Mi Yanli, and wasn't sympathetic to practitioners when they suffered from brutal force-feedings. He targeted practitioners and tortured them to release his anger, especially those practitioners in solitary confinement.

Wang Xiaofeng, female, was the captain of the 3rd Group. She often threatened practitioners and made practitioners who renounced Falun Gong work for her. She put practitioners Ms. Wang Xiuyan from Benxi and Ms. Gao Yaxian from Shenyang in solitary confinement during cold winter days in an attempt to freeze them. Ms. Wang suffered frostbite and could not wear shoes or walk. Her face was deformed. Ms. Gao was confined in the freezing cold for over a month. Her leg was stiff and numb when she was released and she couldn't walk.

Zhang Lai, female, was known as the number one most malicious guard in the 2nd Women's Branch. She was always planning how to torture practitioners. Practitioners in her team were severely tortured. She wouldn't let practitioners eat at the table. When practitioners were under strict management, they were not allowed to dine with others and had to eat in their cells. Practitioners had to stand from 6:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and were only allowed to eat once a day at 4:00 p.m. She wouldn't let practitioners use the bathroom if she was not in the mood. When she walked, practitioners had to walk behind her or they would be punished.

In November 2005, Zhang wouldn't let practitioners wear warm clothes. She put practitioners including Ren Wei in a house without heat and opened all the windows to freeze them. She wouldn't allow practitioners who had been tortured and were weak to rest on their beds. Even practitioners who were on hunger strikes for many months had to do the day-long standing. She would make a mess when searching practitioners' rooms. She stripped practitioners regardless of the presence of the surveillance cameras. In 2006, she intensified her persecution against practitioners. She often removed practitioners' clothes during March and April. If anyone wore anything more than underwear, she would make sure the "extra" clothes were removed. One day in March, practitioner Ms. Chen Guilan, 55, threw a piece of tissue paper in a garbage can without permission. Ms. Chen was forced to pick it back up and ask for permission before she could throw it out. In February and March, the weather is extremely cold. Practitioners in the 1st Group were locked in the coldest room without heat and had to stand the entire day. Zhang Lai watched them to make sure they didn't have gloves on their hands. She illegally prolonged many practitioners' sentences and enjoyed making practitioners' lives miserable.

Liu Hui, female, was a guard in the 2nd Women's Branch. She learned many torture methods after she arrived in 2004. She always wanted to try out torture methods, such as electric batons, hanging by handcuffs, beating, kicking, slapping, and "illegal sentencing." She tried hard to find Master Li's articles so she could report this to the supervisors. She often electrically shocked practitioners, beat them, and force-fed them while sitting on their stomachs in solitary confinement. In November 2005, a practitioner was forced to sit on the ground every day for a long time. Liu took away all soft objects from the practitioner and watched the practitioner closely even when the practitioner was in the bathroom. She forced practitioners to sit close to the door so the freezing wind could blow on them. In March 2006, Li Jun, deputy section head, asked practitioner Ms. Yang Liwei to clean the guards' room. Ms. Yang found peels from seeds and cigarette buts everywhere and said, "Please keep the public area clean. We are suffering there and you people are having a good time here while torturing us. I won't clean this place. I am a Falun Gong practitioner and will not help the evil." Li turned Ms. Yang over to Liu. Liu made Ms. Yang stand near a door that had a freezing draft. Ms. Yang wore very few clothes and was shivering because of the cold. Ms. Yang stood there for a day and Liu wouldn't even allow her to use the bathroom. Many guards were freezing with thick jackets on but no one cared about Ms. Yang.

Zhang Xiaofeng, female, was a staff member in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. After guards beat the practitioners, she was in charge of playing the "good cop," pretending to be friendly to win practitioners' trust, yet she often slandered practitioners and Falun Gong.

Wang Wei, male, was the deputy director of the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. In 2005, the camp assigned Wang to be in charge of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Therefore, on February 24, 2006, Wang, Liu Yong, Ma Jishan, and other guards started a new wave of torture to intensify the persecution against practitioners in the 1st and the 2nd Group.

Liu Yong, head of the security division, was the husband of Li Mingyu, leader of the Strict Management Group. Liu punished practitioners in the Strict Management Group. He made them stand from morning until night daily and also searched their rooms every few days. Sometimes Liu did not allow practitioners to use the bathroom or eat, and deprived them of sleep for 24 hours. Liu often broadcast the camp regulations at high volume. He and a group of others beat practitioners for no reason just to "teach them a lesson." On March 4, 2006, he made practitioners sleep in prisoners' clothes. If practitioners refused, they were not allowed to sleep. The practitioners protested. Liu punched practitioner Teng Shiyun from Anshan City, injuring his eyes. Teng has not been able to see clearly ever since. In April, Liu forced many practitioners to kneel down for a long time. Practitioner Xie Wende from Dalian City was disabled because she injured her knee caps during this torture. Ms. Wang Huinan from Fushun City refused to kneel down. Liu, Ma, and Wang cuffed Ms. Wang and beat and kicked her until she was bruised all over. In February 2006, Liu put Qiu Li from Fushun City, Zhang Jingyan from Liaozhong City, and Liu Guiyuan from Shenyang City, into solitary confinement and threatened to keep them there forever if they didn't renounce Falun Gong. Liu also illegally prolonged Ms. Yang Liwei's, Ms. Yan Chunjiao's, Ms. Sun Suxiang's, and Ms. Shang Xiaoyun's sentences by between one and three months. On a cold March day, Liu ordered a female guard to strip Ms. Long Sufen from Shenyang City, and forced Ms. Long to stand outside until midnight, wearing only thin underwear. Ms. Long suffered stomach cramps as a result. Liu and Ma were in charge of a group of male guards whom they stationed in the 1st and the 2nd Group to torture practitioners.

One of the torture methods is the "hanging cuff." The hanging cuff involves cuffing a practitioner's hands to the two ends of a bed, one higher than the other. This way the practitioner cannot straighten his body and has to bend his body and put his entire weight on one leg. The practitioner is cuffed around the clock, even during sleep. When the practitioner is laying down to sleep, his hands are cuffed to one end of the bed so he can't turn. The shoulder that is pushing against the bed is often numb and extremely sore after a night. About forty practitioners were tortured using this method. They looked fine on the outside but their muscles and bones were in excruciating pain. Many people's bodies, especially their feet, were severely swollen after that. Some people's wrists were covered in scars, and they suffered cramping, they vomited, and they fainted from exhaustion. Some practitioners' hands were almost disabled. Ms. Zhou Hua's (from Benxi City) shoulder was dislocated due to a month of such torture. The guards then cuffed her hands on one side of the bed for another two months. Ms. Yuan Shuzhe was tortured with the hanging cuff for over two months and beaten many times. Ms. Wang Huinan was tortured in this way for over forty days and fainted many times. Ms. Yang Liwei was hang-cuffed for almost twenty days and fainted and experienced cramps many times. Ms. Long Shufen was hang-cuffed for a month and one of her arms was disabled. Ms. Zou Xiuju was hang-cuffed for over forty days. Liu ordered other guards to beat Ms. Yan Chunjiao and made her face the wall at bedtime to humiliate her. Liu beat Ms. Zhang Jingyan and tortured her with the hanging cuff.

Ma Jishan was the head of the management section. On February 4, 2006, Ma ordered guards to take away the belongings of practitioners in the 1st Group and give each of them a set of cotton clothes that were so thin that light could be seen through them. In the cold winter days of February, about twenty practitioners were forced to go to an isolated house with no insulation and no heat. It was like an ice cage, and even guards wearing thick warm clothes had to walk back and forth to stay warm. Practitioners were in thin clothes and were not allowed to move. Many practitioners' feet and hands were frostbitten. The torture lasted for two months. During this time, practitioners weren't allowed to shower or change clothes. Ma stripped female practitioners of their jackets to further punish them, spit on them, grabbed their hair and slapped them, and kicked them.

In late April, practitioners detained in the 1st Group were forced to stand facing the wall from 6:00 a.m. until midnight. They were only allowed to use the bathroom three times a day. They would get brutally kicked if they moved or were not in the "right" position. Many guards watched them around the clock. One day in May, the guards pulled one of Ms. Zou Xiuju's teeth and she bled profusely. Ms. Zou was immobilized on the "death bed" with a megaphone in her mouth. This was one means of torture. The megaphone forced the practitioner's her mouth to stay wide open for a long time and her jaw thus became very sore. Ms. Zou was tortured like this for over twenty days. Ma liked to use the hanging cuff torture method. He would wake up practitioners at 5:00 a.m. and hang them up in the cuffs from their wrists until midnight or 3:00 a.m. Practitioners were not allowed to shower, wash, or change clothes. Ms. Yang Liwei from Bensi City was tortured like this until she shook continuously, involuntarily. Ms. Wang Huinan from Fushun City fainted many times while she was being hang-cuffed. Ms. Zhou Huayi's arm was dislocated. Ma threatened to kill Ms. Xie Dewen and ordered his followers to force-feed Ms. Xin Shuhua with drugs.

Chen Lishan, a deputy section director, slapped Ms. Wang Manli from Benxi City many times while she was on a hunger strike. Ms. Wang lost conscious and her face was disfigured and swollen. Ms. Wang had to pay for her medical expenses.

Yu Wen, a deputy section director, participated in many of the torture incidents. On June 21, 2006, Yu and Li Dongming brutally beat practitioner Shi Guirong, 65, from Shenyang City, and caused Shi's high blood pressure to worsen. Shi could no longer walk by herself.

Li Jun, a deputy section director, often participated in beating and scolding practitioners.

Li Dongming, 30, liked to beat practitioners and wouldn't let them shower or wash during the hot summer days in May. Li and Fan Takui wrote depraved words on the bed boards and forced practitioners Ms. Yan Chunjiao and Ms. Sun Suhua to stand on the bed boards. Li even wrote words that slandered Falun Gong on the two practitioners' clothes. Li has beaten practitioners, including Ms. Long Sufen from Shenyang City, Ms. Yang Liwer from Benxi City, Ms. Yan Chunjiao, Ms. Xin Shuhua, Ms. Yuan Shuzhe from Shenyang, and Ms. Shi Guirong.

Liu Fuquan, Ma Jishan's driver, assisted in the beatings.

Zhang Jun had a very bad temper. Zhang and Ma used to kick Ms. Yan and injured her ankle and wouldn't allow her to go to a hospital. Zhang used a steel tea cup to beat Ms. Yang many times, until she was severely injured and vomited a lot of blood. Zhang brutally beat Ms. Qiu Li from Fushun City and caused internal injuries. Zhang is one of the most brutal guards who likes to beat others.

Fan Yakui often beat practitioners. One time Fan was beating Ms. Long Sufen so hard that he tore her jacket and the filling in the jacket scattered everywhere. In June 2006, Fan and several guards beat and kicked practitioner Yuan Shuzhe until Yuan was seriously injured.

Wang Qi beat many practitioners and helped other guards to torture practitioners.

Han Kai was very vicious and often threatened practitioners that they would not be allowed to use the bathroom. Han often handcuffed practitioners very tightly and reminded the guards on duty to cuff the practitioners while they were asleep. Practitioners were often tortured until they couldn't move. Han would kick them to check whether they were dead or alive.

The above is just the tip of the iceberg concerning torture in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp.

The Torture Suffered by Several Falun Gong Practitioners in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province

Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the minghui.ca website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).

    (1) Falun Gong practitioners Yuan Jiaxiu and Li Wenfeng from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province went to the provincial government on July 22, 1999 to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. The unlawful Party officials ordered many police officers to take them to Chengdu City's Xicheng stadium where they were detained and subjected to forced brainwashing. Later, they were taken to Chadianzi Olympic stadium and forced to register their names and personal information.

On New Year's Eve in 2001, Yuan Jiaxiu and Li Wenfeng went to Beijing to clarify the truth and were detained at the Beijing Tiananmen security office. Later they were detained at the new prison outside of Beijing's third route. After that practitioners were dispersed into various local security offices. Yuan Jiaxiu and Li Wenfeng were tortured, interrogated and threatened in Daxing Police Department until midnight. Afterwards, they were detained at Daxing Detention Center for two days and Mianyang Second Detention Center for one month. In 2004, Yuan Jiaxiu was reported while clarifying truth and was detained in Caojiaxiang Security Office. The next day she was sent to Pi County Detention Center where she was detained for fifteen days.

During their detention in Daxing City Detention Center, Ms. Li Wenfeng and other practitioners refused to report their names and addresses. They also went on a hunger strike for over twenty days. Consequently, the police ordered inmates to forcefully inject practitioners with drugs until their lives were in danger. In September of 2004, Ms. Li Wenfeng was arrested for distributing truth-clarifying materials and detained at Pi County Detention Center. Fifteen days later she was once again taken to a brainwashing class. Over ten vicious thugs tried to brainwash her and they deprived of her sleep. Li Wenfeng went on a hunger strike for over ten days until her life was in danger. However, the camp officials still refused to release her. Furthermore, they injected her with some unknown substances, which caused pain all over her body and made her mind foggy. Later, they sent Ms. Li to a brainwashing class in Xinjin. Over ten days later she was once again taken to Shuangliu Jinhua town brainwashing class. She was finally released in December of 2004. Her condition at that point was very poor.

    (2) Practitioner Zhang Qiaozhen went to the city government on July 22, 1999 to appeal for Falun Gong. As a result, she was detained at the Olympic stadium and forced to register her name and personal information. Later she was illegally arrested, taken to Shuangnan Security Office and interrogated by the assistant director named Li. She went home after 3:00 a.m.

On New Year's Day of 2001, four practitioners, including Zhang Qiaozhen, Kan Yaohua and Li Shirong, were detained for four days at Maandong road farm supplies dormitory. They were detained for another seven days on October 1, 2001.

In December of 2001, when Zhang Qiaozhen and her daughter went to her hometown to visit her mother, who is over ninety years old, eight or nine people dragged her daughter, son, and herself to a security office in Chengdu train station. They were not released until midnight.

At around 10 p.m. on New Year's Eve of 2002, police official Ye Xingshu and Li Daquan arrested Zhang Qiaozhen at her home and took her to the security office. They took away her identification card and released her.

    (3) On May 8, 2000, practitioner Qiu Yi was detained for two days in Caojiaxiang Security Office for attending a Fa conference in Nanjiao Park. On May 11, 2001, he was sent to Caojiaxiang Security Office by Ma Jianjun for clarifying the truth. He was detained there for fifteen days. His work unit withheld 700 yuan from his salary.

Zhou Hanmei is from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. In 1999, she participated in drafting a letter to the secretary of the United Nations to state the injustice Falun Gong practitioners have suffered. As a result, she was fired from her job. All of the middle-ranked officials in her work unit took turns to participate in brainwashing her. In May of 2003, she clarified the truth to people in her husband's hometown. She was reported and detained in a labor camp for one year. After she served a one-year term, she was once again arrested and taken to Xinjin brainwashing class because she refused to write a guarantee statement.
