  • Falun Gong Practitioners Persecuted at the Brainwashing Center in Huanbao Guest House, Dalian City, Liaoning Province

For a long time, the fourth and fifth floors in Dalian Huanbao Guest House are what the CCP personnel call the forced brainwashing center for the "transformation" of Falun Gong practitioners, and what the personnel there call "the school of ideological education." They dare not hang up a sign, fearful of being exposed. The building is located behind the Second Hospital affiliated with Dalian Medical College. This hospital has performed a large volume of organ transplant surgeries in recent years.

The first floor in the front is a legitimate hotel and restaurant, with a great deal of traffic day and night. The second and third floors are an inn, where tourists and business travelers stay. In the backyard, there is a small gate which leads directly to the fourth and fifth floors. Falun Gong practitioners who are arrested are sent directly to the fourth floor office by the local police, as well as the public security personnel responsible for the streets and the community. The people staying on the second and third floors have no idea what happens on the fourth and fifth floors. At the spot where the fourth floor staircase turns, there is an iron gate installed, which is usually locked. Even former practitioners who have turned against Falun Gong and are working for the police cannot go out without permission.

The fourth floor office is equipped with a monitor. From the office, they can see all the prison cells clearly and the staff's every move in the hallway. Falun Gong practitioners are sent here to have a physical examination, including blood pressure readings. Every Falun Gong practitioner is sent to a single room on the fifth floor. (There is a curtain on the door to block the view.) In the reception room on the fifth floor, the entrance is also equipped with an iron shutter. There is always a person on duty at the entrance day and night to guard it. It is usually locked as well.

Each room only imprisons one Falun Gong practitioner watched by two or three people, monitored 24 hours a day, and not allowed to go out of the room at all. The main people responsible are the leader Li Li, directors surnamed Zhou, Liu, Yan Wei, Zhuang and Li. It is said that they are all public security section leaders or higher up officials, and are extremely hostile to Falun Gong. They are under the direct control of the city 610 Office. They go all out to try to force Falun Gong practitioners to write the "four statements" to give up Falun Gong. They also insult Falun Gong and Teacher, and attempt to force practitioners to turn in the names of other people who are still practicing Falun Gong.

The brainwashing center forces Falun Gong practitioners to watch videos and recordings slandering Falun Gong, and uses former practitioners that have turned against Falun Gong. One such former practitioner is Miao Chunyan, who has come up with all kinds of phony theories to try to confuse and drag down true practitioners. Every morning, two of the people from each room report their progress to the leaders. As long as Falun Gong practitioners do not write the four statements, they are not released. If over time the practitioners still do not give in, they are physically abused, sent to prison, or sent to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Sometimes the practitioners are sent back to the brainwashing center to be further tortured.

Under the relentless oppression, many people who did not study the principle of Falun Gong well wrote the "four statements" to renounce Falun gong. The Falun Gong practitioners who went on hunger strike in protest were force fed and had the feeding tube left in place for 24 hours. In order to prevent the tube from being removed, the practitioners' hands and feet were shackled.

After Falun Gong practitioners Wang Huiqing and Guo Zhaohua from Lushun were illegally imprisoned in the Lushun Detention Center for 15 days, they were sent to Huanbao Guest House for further persecution on the morning of June 7, 2006.

Ms. Xu Suyun from Hebei Province Arrested and Imprisoned in Forced Labor Camp

On June 8, 2006, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xu Suyun, from the city of Tangshan, Hebei Province, went to the Fengdao Police Station, Lubei District, Tangshan to clarify the truth about Falun Gong to the police there. For this she was detained for 15 days. After she was released on the afternoon of June 22, she was arrested again only one hour after she arrived home. She was then sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor and was taken to the Kaiping Women's Forced Labor Camp. Her family members were cruelly beaten by the police for seeking her release.

Ms. Xu, 52 years old, was a victim of the "Cultural Revolution" instigated by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). After she graduated from a middle school as an "educated youth", she was forced by the CCP to be "re-educated" by poor peasants in remote villages. After 20 years of very difficult living conditions in a village, she returned to her home in the city in 1993. She had to live on the small income from a part time job in the street committee of her home because she failed to find a permanent job. Her husband worked in another city. In 1999, both of them were unemployed. To support her family and her two children's education, she had to sell packed food at a night market alone although she was suffering from poor health. Her ailments included back and shoulder pain, hypertension and heart problems. Because of the heavy physical burdens, she became tired of her hard life.

In the winter of 2001, Ms. Xu heard about Falun Gong. Through practicing Falun Gong, all of her diseases disappeared and she became energetic like a young woman. She tried to improve her character and always treated others strictly according to the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance". Before she found Falun Gong she had once found 800 yuan that someone had lost. Instead of finding its owner, she deposited it into her bank account. After she started to practice Falun Gong she came to understand the principles of being a good person. She realized that she should return the money to its owner. But where could she find the owner after so many years? With a compassionate hint from Teacher, she found the owner in May 2006. Upon getting his money back, the owner could not believe that it could happen so many years after it was lost and genuinely admired the high morality of Falun Gong practitioners. Both the owner and other people immediately said, "Falun Dafa is good!"

Through this matter, people saw even more clearly the goodness of Falun Gong and the evilness of the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong. Some of them announced immediately that they would learn Falun Gong later and quit the CCP and all of its affiliated organizations. In the past few years, Ms. Xu firmly practiced Falun Gong and clarified the truth about Falun Gong diligently to people, leaving her footprints in almost all streets and alleyways in the city.

On April 15, 2006, around 7 p.m., a local practitioner named Hui Hui was arrested by police from the Fengdao Police Station and her home was ransacked. After one night of detention in the police station, she was sent to the First Detention Center of Tangshan. On the afternoon of June 8, 2006, Ms. Xu went to the Fengdao Police Station to clarify the truth about Falun Gong and to give the police a letter asking them to do what is right. For this, she was arrested. On June 10, the police ransacked her home and sent her to the Changningdao Detention Center of Tangshan, where she was detained for 15 days.

On June 22, Ms. Xu's family members were told by the detention center authorities to take her back. In the afternoon she returned to her mother's house. However, after about one hour, the police from the Fendao Police Station went to her home after they learned that she had been released from the detention center. They arrested her violently and took her to the Kaiping Labor Camp.

Ms. Xu's mother and husband went to the Fengdao Police Station to request her release. Her younger brother also went there. They inquired of the head of the police station Niu, asking why they had arrested Ms. Xu. Shamed into anger, Niu ordered several policemen to beat Ms. Xu's brother.

Later, policeman Mao Zhong told Ms. Xu's family members to send her some luggage. He said hypocritically: "Hui Hui has been sent to a labor camp in Shijiazhuang (capital city of Hebei province). We sent Xu Suyun to the Kaiping Labor Camp considering the condition of your family."

Ms. Liu Ying Illegally Detained for Thirty Days in Gongan County, Hubei Province

Ms. Liu Ying, about 40 years old, is a Falun Gong practitioner in Gongan County, Hubei Province. She used to be an employee of Hubei Province Agricultural Vehicle Plant (located in Gongan County). Because of practicing Falun Gong, she was fired by her employer. Ms. Liu was then illegally sentenced to three years of detention, during which she was tortured tremendously. After her release, however, the authorities still did not give her freedom, but instead sent people to follow her and monitor her movements.

On March 14, 2006, more than 10 police officers went to her home, attempting to illegally arrest her. They failed. To avoid further persecution, Ms. Liu had little choice but to stay away from home, and after much difficulty, arrived at the Fourth Agricultural Normal School in Beitun Town, Xinjiang Province, where her husband temporarily worked. Ms. Liu stayed there to look after her husband, and both of them lived around the agricultural market in Buxing Street, Beitun Town.

But the authorities were still after her. Around 11 a.m. on September 1, three policemen from the National Security Detachment of the 4th Agriculture Division including Song Keqiang, Huo Ping, and Yin went to her husband’s workplace. They confiscated their marriage certificate, and used that to illegally arrest her. The police also took a copy of Zhuan Falun, Master Li’s lectures in various places, an MP3 player, and a prepaid phone card. The local police notified the National Security Group of Gongan County to pick her up after 9 a.m. on September 3. Ms. Liu was then illegally detained in the First Detention Center in Gongan County. Several police officers were involved in picking up Ms. Liu including Liao Xuesheng, Xiang Xiaoyang, Ao Hongmei, and a policewoman.

After losing her job because of the persecution, Ms. Liu's family has been very poor. Her elderly parents are in tears every day. Her husband just had an operation in the hospital and nobody is looking after him during recovery. More than 30 days have passed since Ms. Liu's illegal arrest. Her family has been asking the local police to release her, but have not heard any response.

It was said that the National Security Group demanded 10,000 yuan from Ms. Liu’s family but were denied. Later, they wanted 5,000 yuan from her family but were denied again. Seeing the family very poor, and unable to obtain money from the family, the National Security Group transferred Ms. Liu to the Legality Section.

On the morning of September 27, Chen Maohai and another policeman  interrogated Ms. Liu, but she refused to tell them anything.

How Falun Gong Practitioners Are Tortured in Nanhu Forced Labor Camp, Anhui Province

[Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the minghui.ca website, the (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).]

The Nanhu Forced Labour Camp is one of the primary places in Anhui province where Falun Gong practitioners are persecuted. Many Falun Gong practitioners from Anhui province were sent to this camp for illegal forced labor. Some practitioners lost their lives here due to torture and forced labor.

Mr. Yang Haisheng, a practitioner from Chizhou, was sent to the "adjusting" team in 2004. Because he practiced the Falun Gong exercises at night, he was confined and inhumanly tortured. Afterwards, Haisheng Yang could not even stand steadily and was sent to a hospital. Another practitioner, Ms. Li Aiyun was severely beaten and required stitches.

Mr. Lu Qinghai, a practitioner from Shitai County, Guichi City was sentenced to three years of forced labor. Because Mr. Lu would not renounce his belief in Falun Gong, the guards hung him in the air and forced his hands onto the three statements. From December 2004 through the middle of May 2005, Mr. Lu Qinghai was subjected to the "Adjusting Team." During this phase, the police handcuffed him for seven lengthy periods of time (a kind of torture). Once it lasted 10 days. The time periods Mr. Lu Qinghai was handcuffed were:

    February 8 - 17, 2005 (10 days)
    March 13 - 19, 2005 (7 days)
    April 8 - 13, 2005 (6 days)
    June 19 - 26, 2005 (7 days)
    August 7 - 15, 2005 (9 days)
    September 11 - 18, 2005 (7 days)
    December 9 - 17, 2005 (9 days)

The perpetrators who beat Lu Qinghai are Hu Jianbing, Li Yingfa, Wang Xiaofeng, Lu Yun, Hua Zhongxin, and Jiang Yongguang. Because he was forced to stand for excruciating periods of time, Mr. Lu's legs swelled to the size of water buckets. His urine was the color of iron rust. Sometimes he had diarrhea for very long time. From the torture, he lost more than 15 kg (33 lbs).
