  • Mr. Yang Jianpo on Brink of Death at Tangshan Prison; Liu Xianglong Arrested for Taking Yang’s Family to Visit Him

Forty-three-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yang Jianpo from Langfang City, Hebei Province is on the brink of death at the Jidong Prison in Tangshan City. His family went to the prison's Detachment 4 on October 6, 2006 and asked to meet with him. They also requested Yang Jianpo's release on medical parole. Detachment 4's officials forbade the family to meet with Yang Jianpo. The disappointed family waited from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. before returning home. Guards from Detachment 4, the local police station head Xu Chong, and military police officers in turn talked to the family during the 12 hours and told them to go away. They said, "You should no longer come back here; tell other people from your family to come."

Some other relatives went to the prison on October 8, 2006, hoping to see Yang Jianpo this time. The relatives didn’t know how to get there and so asked practitioner Liu Xianglong from Langfang City to take them. Once at the prison, one guard agreed to let Yang Jianpo’s wife and child meet with him. When he heard other relatives had come along he asked everyone to register their names. He said they would be able to see Yang Jianpo after the officials finished discussing it in their meeting. The family waited. Li Zhengyun, the political head at the Jidong Prison Central Hospital, Wu, head of the Prison Politics Section and chief surgeon Bi went to Yang Jianpo’s wife. They told her that Yang Jianpo could die at any time as he was suffering from multiple organ failure. His wife again asked for medical parole, but the authorities said he did not qualify for medical parole, as he didn’t "obey the law." His family said, "He never violated any law. He is a good person and you are detaining him illegally."

When the prison office hours ended at 4:30 p.m., a group of officials, including Yan Zhen from the 1st Division of the Langfang City Police Department and Liu Yanhui from Langfang City National Security Group, tried to take Yang Jianpo’s family away. They arrested Liu Xianglong, who had shown the family the way to the prison. They ignored the family’s pleas. Yang Jianpo’s wife had a sudden heart attack and lost consciousness, and yet a police officer, in his 50s, from Langfang City, repeatedly told the family to go away.

Liu Xianglong’s family learned about the arrest and went to Langfang City Police Department, Guangyang District Police Department,  Anci District Police Department and to the National Security Groups in all districts and detention centers, to look for him. All officials denied knowledge of the arrest. The family continued their efforts and eventually found out that Liu Xianglong was being held at a Langfang City Brainwashing Class.

Right now is the fall harvest season. Liu Xianglong’s wife is in poor health, and their three young children cannot work in the field. The whole family relies on Liu Xianglong.

Yang Jianpo and his wife Nie Chunling have been persecuted frequently in the past several years. Yang Jianpo was arrested by officers from Guangyang Police Department in Langfang City on February 20, 2004. He was held at the Kaiping Labor Camp in Tangshan City. His weight had dropped from 198 lbs to 88 lbs when he went home on June 8, 2004. He was skin and bones.

Yang Jianpo, Cao Baoyu and other practitioners were arrested during the 2006 Chinese New Year when clarifying the truth to government officials in an effort to rescue fellow practitioners. Yang Jianpo nearly died from torture and was taken to the Langfang City Hospital and the Langfang City Chinese Medical Hospital, both of which issued him a Notice of Critical Condition. Langfang City Detention Center officials issued a release notification, but agents at the Guangyang District 610 Office withheld the release notice and transferred Yang Jianpo to Guangyang District People’s Hospital, also called the Beidajie Hospital.

Cao Baoyu died from torture at the Guangyang District People’s Hospital on the evening of April 27, 2006. Yang Jianpo was sent to the Langfang City Detention Center and later sentenced to prison, and locked up in Detachment 4 at the Jidong Prison, although he was still hovering between life and death. Yang Jianpo has been holding a hunger strike since February 5, 2006 to protest the detention and persecution.

More Details on the Death of Mr. Xin Minduo

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xin Minduo was from Liaohe Oil Field. On August 3, 2005, police officers Xu Hao and Huang Haiou arrested Mr. Xin while he was walking down the road. He was illegally sentenced to 13 years in prison and was in Nanshan Prison, Jinzhou City, on February 21, 2006. He was confined to a "small cell" and force-fed heavily-salted water because he resisted efforts to make him give up the practice of Falun Gong. The prison staff refused to let his family visit him because he had been on a hunger strike for three months and was physically very weak. The warden said to his family: "We won't release him even if he is dead, it doesn't matter who you talk to. You can even go to the State Council." On September 1, 2006, Mr. Xin Minduo died in Nanshan Prison, and his body was cremated on the morning of September 3 without his family's approval.

The prison did not provide his family with a death certificate until after Mr. Xin's body had been cremated. The Xin family noticed that the date of Mr. Xin's death had been erroneously recorded as "September 2, 2006," and the official cause of death was "coma." After waiting for over two hours, Nanshan Prison officials provided another death certificate on which the cause of death had been changed to "dehydration, coma, kidney failure, anemia, metabolic acidosis, and respiratory failure." The certificate was signed by a doctor named Zhu Huiwei.

Mr. Xin passed away mysteriously and his parents cried until they had no more tears. They were allowed to visit him only once after he and his wife, Ms. Bao Juncen, were arrested on August 3, 2005. Although Mr. Xin asked to meet with his wife many times before he died, his requests were never granted.

Mr. Xin Minduo was born on May 27, 1973. He worked as chief technician at the Resource Exploration Company of Liaohe Oil Field. Because he had been firmly practicing Falun Gong, in 2001 he was sentenced to a three-year forced labor term by Liaohe Police Department and was detained at Panjin Forced Labor Center. On August 3, 2006 police officers Xu Hao and Huang Haiou from Panjin Police Department arrested Mr. Xin and his wife. The Xinglongtai District Court of Panjin City sentenced him to 13 years in prison. On February 21, 2006, he was sent to Nanshan Prison, where he was tortured brutally.

The Panjin City Court never stated a ruling in Ms. Bao Juncen's case. Her family was told: "There is none" when they requested a verdict. The Court finally returned the case to the national security team of Panjin City Police Department, where police officers Xu Hao and Huang Haiou, arbitrarily sentenced her to a one-year labor term. After torturing her in Panjin Detention Center for almost eight months and extorting 8,000 yuan from her family, the prison officials released her to "complete her term outside." The couple met only once after they were arrested. Nanshan Prison did not allow Ms. Bao to visit her husband on the grounds that she was a Falun Gong practitioner.

On March 8, 2006, Mr. Xin was transferred to the first sub team of the tenth section in Nanshan Prison. He was stripped to be photographed by a camcorder and was beaten when he refused to cooperate. The clothes he brought with him were stamped with "convict." He strongly decried such treatment since he had not committed any crime. Two inmates "sandwiched" him 24 hours a day, even when he went to the restroom or when he slept. Every day he was forced to listen to Falun Gong-defaming propaganda and to write his thoughts. He did not yield to these tactics. He could not bend his legs while sitting and thus could not exercise. He faced insults and coercion every day for trivial things. Even the prison guards agreed that it was not only a matter of Falun Gong practitioners losing their freedom—it was more severe than that. Mr. Xin was not allowed to be near the windows for almost two months and did not even know what the weather was like. Furthermore, he suffered from psychological mistreatment and was not allowed to talk with other inmates. Other inmates dared not interact with him and so he was very isolated.

His family wanted to get some facts from him in order to appeal the illegality of his arrest. The prison did not allow him to read the letter of appeal on the grounds that it would disturb his mood and make him hard to manage.

In the middle of June 2006, four people from Nanshan Prison suddenly went to see Mr. Xin's father and told the family that Mr. Xin "was on a hunger strike and that if it continued he would be transferred to Shenyang or his term would be extended."

During July and August 2006, the Xin family contacted Nanshan Prison many times and were even granted family visits. However, when the family arrived at the prison, they were told that the visit had been denied. His elderly parents did not know anyone in the area and so lingered outside the prison gates. They stared at the prison gates but could not see their son. The old man was so anxious that his eyesight weakened and he lost half of his teeth. Furthermore, the prison authorities pressured and agitated his parents. Warden Zhang Fanyu said to them: "You have written letters persuading people to be good and exposing the facts. The head warden has been upset by this. Looks like you have a lot of pull, so go ahead. I'm telling you he won't be released even if he dies. There is no use even if you go to the State Council."

The Xin family called the prison numerous times to request a visit or to negotiate the transfer of Mr. Xin to a hospital. Zhang Fanyu told them "He won't die! We have a lot of ways in prison. Be assured that he won't starve. It's impossible to try to get out by hunger striking."

On September 1, 2006, prison warden Liu Zhiguo ridiculed Mr. Xin's mother and sister and created all manner of difficulties for them. They waited until after 4 p.m. and had to return home without seeing Mr. Xin. Around 8 p.m. that same night, his mother and sister got a phone call from his father, who was in Jinzhou Hospital by permission of Jinzhou Prison They hurried to the clinic on the seventh floor of Jinzhou Central Hospital. Police were all over the hallway outside the ward and some were taking pictures with camcorders.

The Xin family had to peer through a glass window. They saw three nurses inside. Mr. Xin's mother and sister were eager to meet with the doctor in charge. Police told them that "the doctor had to take care of something at home and left."

The Xin family insisted on being allowed into the ward. When his sister said into his ear, "Minduo, your sister is here to see you," he did not react. When she wiped his eye, it did not close. She raised the top sheet and found that he was naked. When she was about to take a closer look, the police dragged her away in a sudden commotion. Meanwhile, the hospital staff began to remove the emergency treatment equipment.

Not long afterwards (around 8 p.m.), the prison people were very anxious to dress Mr. Xin, saying that with further delay, the body is difficult to dress after it becomes stiff. They dressed his body only 30 minutes after it left the ward. However, the Xin family noticed that Mr. Xin's body was already cold and stiff. The prison staffers that were present included Su from the Administration Department, Group Leader Zhang Xiaoping from the tenth section, Deputy Group Leader Zhao Lixin, and some prison guards. After 10 p.m., they surrounded the Xin family and insisted that the body be sent to the Jinahou Funeral Home. Before other relatives arrived, prison guards dragged Mr. Xin's mother and sister off the transport vehicle.

That night the prison made arrangements to board the Xin family at Shunxin Hotel in Jinzhou City. Police cars were parked around the hotel and police officers were everywhere. They monitored the relatives' activities 24 hours a day, even following them when they went downstairs to eat or buy water. Prison police guarded both the entrance and exit staircases and questioned each passersby, even examining some people's ID cards. At night, Zhao Lixin and Zhang Xiaoping stayed in the room right across the hall from the Xin family room.

What's even more puzzling was that, when Mr. Xin's co-workers and classmates arrived to console the parents and say farewell to his body, Zhang Xiaoping stopped them in the hallway to examine their ID and threatened: "Whoever is a cadre here, I'll make a phone call to the employer to get him/her fired. During cremation, if anyone from the Resource Exploration Company arrives, the leader will be punished." A few people were not allowed to go upstairs.

It was later learned that between 3:15 and 4 p.m. on September 1, Zhao Lixin made three to four phone calls to Mr. Xin's father in Panjin City, asking him to come to the hospital. He told the old man, "Do not tell your wife and daughter or anyone else, otherwise, you won't be permitted to visit him."

Mr. Xin's family and his father, who is in his 70's, were harmed both physically and psychologically during the years that Mr. Xin was persecuted. His father's eyesight is failing, he has high blood pressure, and he has lost half of his teeth. Seeing his youngest son framed and sent to prison, he had to withstand cruel verbal abuse by the prison staff in order to be able to visit him. Police at Jinzhou Prison took advantage of his old age and feebleness as someone who would be easy to fool. On the one hand, they wouldn't allow Mr. Xin's mother and sister to visit him, yet on the other hand, they called his father and asked him to come to the hospital.

When he arrived at Jinzhou Central Hospital and saw his son's condition, the old man's brain went blank and he did not remember what the doctor told him. Then, with the permission of prison officials, he was able to call his wife and son. The two of them had just returned to the daughter's home at Jinzhou Oil Refinery of Liaohe Oil Fields, but they hurried back to the hospital.

When Mr. Xin's mother and sister arrived, they insisted on meeting with the doctor in charge at Jinzhou Central Hospital, but their request was denied. They were also denied access to Mr. Xin's hospital chart. When they asked what time Mr. Xin had arrived at the hospital, they were given contradictory replies, including 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m.

On the night of September 2, Zhang Xiaoping and Zhao Lixin, representatives of Nanshan Prison, talked with Mr. Xin's family. Zhang apologized to the family on behalf of the prison and said: "Our management did not act properly, and it led to Xin Minduo's death. They need to be educated since they caused such loss and pain to the Xin family." He said that the prison would pay the hospital costs and reimburse the family 2,000 "yuan" for traveling expenses.

At the hospital, Zhang said he would grant the Xin family's three requests: to read the patient's chart, to see the Nanshan Prison doctor's treatment records, and to read Mr. Xin's last letter to his family.

A day later Zhang did not honor his word as he dared not keep the promises. He said he was not at the hospital. In the beginning, he had said that the cremation could be done any time within seven days. Half a day later the promise was changed to four days. Several hours later, he said that the body had to be cremated the following day.

On the morning of September 3 Mr. Xin's body was sent to Nanshan Prison to be cremated.

Mr. Xin wrote four letters to his family. The family still hasn't received the fourth letter. Zhang Fanyu said to wait until the supervisors approved the request, while Zhang Xiaoping denied the existence of the letter itself. The only belongings taken out of the prison were a quilt and bedsheet, no washing utensils, not a piece of clothing, or a pair of socks. Zhang Xiaoping said that Mr. Xin had given such items to other inmates.

It was reported that when Mr. Xin was on his hunger strike in Nanshan Prison, he was force-fed paste and highly-salted water. This continued until he died.

Many Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested in Yanqing County, Beijing and Sent to Labor Camps Since Late June 2006

Many Falun Gong practitioners were arrested in Yanqing County, Beijing since late June 2006. Practitioners Wen Junqing, Wang Xiuqin, Yin Meili and several others were sent to labor camps.

Mr. Shi Yingji, 31 years old, lived in Konghuaying Village, Yongning Town, Yanji County and worked on the railroad. He was illegally arrested on June 28, 2006 and abused until he suffered from symptoms of brain hemorrhage. The police didn’t approve his formal arrest at the time and instead placed him under surveillance at the Yanqing County Hospital. Beijing Police Department's No. 1 Department suddenly approved Mr. Shi's arrest on September 19, 2006. He is now being held at the Beijing Detention Center. Officers Zhao Laigen and Zhen Jinji are in charge of his case. The arrest notice was not delivered to his family until September 26, although the law states that "explanations should be given if notice is not issued to the arrestee’s family or work place within 24 hours of the arrest." The notice was sent to Shi Yingji’s family after one week, but no written or oral explanation was given. Shi Yingji was held at the Yanqing County Hospital for 47 days, between August 2 until September 19, during which time he had symptoms of a myocardial infarction, high blood pressure and a stroke. He was once in critical condition.

Ms. Wen Junqing, 36 years old, worked at the Sihai Township Tax Bureau in Yanqing County. She was persecuted in 2000 for practicing Falun Gong and was forced to resign from her job. Since then, she has since made a living as a tricycle taxi driver. She and Shi Yingji were arrested by more than 20 police officers on the afternoon of June 28, 2006 at her residence, 8 South Caiyuansan Alley, Yanqing Town. Ms. Wen was sentenced to two years and she is still being held at the Yanqing Detention Center.

Ms. Wang Xiuqin, in her 50s, is a retired teacher from the 4th Elementary School in Yanqing County. She was arrested by National Security agents on June 19, 2005 for clarifying the truth. Ms. Wang broke free 15 days later and went into exile to avoid further persecution. The National Security agents searched for her everywhere and froze her pension. Ms. Wang was arrested again on June 30, 2006 by the police working in collaboration with the principal of the No. 4 Elementary School, and she was sent to a labor camp. Ms. Wang developed symptoms of illnesses. Officials at the Beijing Labor Reeducation Dispatch Division said that she was being held at a hospital within their system, but her family could not find her. Right now, Wang Xiuqin is being held at the 7th Group of  Beijing Women’s Forced Labor Camp, having been sent there by Beijing Labor Reeducation Dispatch Division agents.

Ms. Yin Meili is in her late 40s. She worked at the Kangan Residential Area’s Property Management Company in Yanqing. Her superiors and the police colluded to arrest her around July 1, 2006. She has been sent to a labor camp.

Ms. Guo Zhenhua is in her 40s and lived in Wangquanying Village, Yanqing Town, Yanqing County. She was arrested on July 26, 2006. Local police officer Qi Feng from Yanqing Town searched her home. Guo Zhenhua clarified the truth to him. He didn’t say anything at the time. Later, he led several other officers and they ransacked Guo Zhenhua’s home and took her away with a search warrant.

The Persecution I Experienced in the "Small Room" at the Guizhou Province Women’s Forced Labor Camp

The Guizhou Province Women’s Forced Labor Camp renovated its buildings into totally enclosed structures with money it received from the government and from the profit made from Falun Gong practitioners’ slave labor. The guards are verbally abusive and deceptive all the time. It’s common practice for them to verbally abuse and hit Falun Gong practitioners, who are forced to work 18 hours a day. The work time was later reduced to 15 hours a day after numerous government inspections. The detainees in Detachment 4 have to work until 3:00 a.m. and sometimes overnight. They cannot receive timely medical treatment if they don’t have money or if they didn’t fulfill the assigned workload.

Falun Gong practitioners are mistreated to a worse degree. Practitioners who refuse to renounce Falun Gong are separated and detained in different rooms where the doors and windows are covered with bed sheets or quilt covers. These rooms are called "tackle the fort" spots [a metaphor comparing determined Falun Gong practitioners to enemy forts]. They were located in Squadron 3, Group 2, and later moved to Group 4. The guards employed various tactics to persecute the practitioners inside these rooms, including physical and verbal assault.

I was held at the Guizhou Province Women’s Forced Labor Camp for three years, between 2003 and 2006. I was held in one of these rooms in 2005.

    Violent brainwashing and sleep deprivation

I refused to cooperate with the lawless officials’ arrangements. Two guards attacked Falun Gong in my presence and I said, "You don’t have the right to talk about Falun Gong. Falun Dafa is good!" The guards called some inmates over who were assigned to monitor Falun Gong practitioners. They dragged me around. I struggled to free myself while shouting, "Falun Dafa is good!" They covered my mouth with their hands. I pulled their hands away and continued to shout, and they put a towel over my mouth. The guard walked away. One inmate struck me to the ground while another inmate slapped my face. They called me "stubborn" and tried to "fix" me. They forced me to stand and told me to recite the labor camp policies. I said, "I didn’t do anything wrong by practicing Falun Gong. I didn’t violate any laws. I should not be here at the labor camp! This is persecution! I will not recite [the policies]." They deprived me of sleep for 54 hours.

A while later the guards saw that I had not changed my mind, so they changed their tactics. They told people who renounced Falun Gong to take turns brainwashing me. I said to them, "You once benefited from Falun Gong. You’ll regret it in the future when you realize what you have done! You are assisting the evildoers!" They swore at me and didn’t let me speak. They read Falun Gong-slandering books to me and tried to play VCDs to brainwash me.

I was allowed to sleep on a dilapidated couch for only three hours a day the first two days: one hour after lunch, one hour after dinner, and one hour after 3:00 a.m. I had to watch Falun Gong-slandering VCDs and listen to them reading books to me the rest of the time. I refused to pay attention to anything they said. They told me to write an "understanding" of the deceitful materials. I wrote an article to express my determination to safeguard Falun Gong. They shouted vulgarities after reading my article and refused to listen when I tried to clarify the truth to them.

After a while, group head Deng Jun ordered his subordinates to escalate the persecution against me; by this time I had slept no more than one hour each day. I didn’t have a watch and I estimated the time from the shift changes. The inmates did manual labor, including sewing shoe vamps. It takes about 40 minutes for a quick worker to finish one product. They had just begun working when they told me to sleep; 1/3 of their work was still left by the time they woke me up, so I could estimate the length of my sleep. They played VCDs, read propaganda books to me and had collaborators talk to me all day. I refused to cooperate with them.

They turned my head around and pried my eyes open saying, "Let’s be honest, you have to "reform", whether you want to or not, since you are here at the Specially Controlled Group. You can’t get out if you don’t ‘reform’!"

I calmly told them, "I will absolutely follow Falun Dafa and Master Li"

Long-term torture results in severe illness symptoms

Three more months had elapsed, and the officials still could not achieve their goal of "transforming" me. Jiao Xia, a group head, pressured the inmates to persecute me even more severely. The inmates followed her order. They forced me to put one foot on a short stool and stand on one foot for a long time. At other times they tied my foot with a rope and pulled on it, to force me to skip on one leg. One inmate held my hands behind my back. Sometimes they pinned me down on a couch while spraying cold water on my face as they screamed into my ears.

My body became bloated. I had hallucinations and talked to myself as a result of the long-term torture. I could not stay awake while standing up during the day. They refused to let me close my eyes and constantly sprayed cold water on me and shoved and hit me with fists and books. I eventually let the evildoers take advantage of my thoughts and I wrote the three statements -- something a Falun Gong practitioner should never do.

Voiding guarantee statements and resisting persecution

The guards continued to lock me in a small room to "deepen my understanding" [of government propaganda]. They let me sleep for three hours a day, and I was able to think rationally again. I thought things over and wrote a solemn announcement: "Everything that I wrote in violation of Falun Gong during the high-pressure persecution while my mind was not clear is void. I will firmly practice Falun Gong."

After I had publicized my announcement, the guards lost their bonuses and the inmates lost their sentence reductions [rewarded for "reforming" Falun Gong practitioners]. They retaliated by persecuting me even more fanatically. I remained determined in my belief in Falun Gong. Forty-five days later I was transferred out of the Specially Controlled Group. Other determined practitioners were also dispersed into different groups where we were again deprived of personal freedom.

Falun Gong practitioner Zhou persecuted in Specially Controlled Group; her whereabouts are unknown

One inmate told me that Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhou was persecuted at the Specially Controlled Group. She is the first person to get up in the morning before dawn and stands all day in the group where the clothes are hung and dried. She is the last person to rest at night, at 3:00 a.m. One day she showed severe illness symptoms. The guards took her to the labor camp clinic. She never returned. The guards later sent the collaborators who persecuted Ms. Zhou to other groups and altered the records of her persecution in order to cover up the truth about what happened to her.

The officials falsify records to cover up the truth

The officials kept two different sets of documentation: one recorded the facts of their persecution against me, and the other one contained complete fabrications. The Specially Controlled Group was dissolved and merged with a new group, but Falun Gong practitioners are still being cruelly persecuted at the labor camp.

Kind-hearted people, please learn the truth about Falun Gong! Help stop the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist Party.

Police in Liaoning Province Try to Frame Falun Gong for Their Crime of Persecuting Mr. Chen Dongping to Death

Fushun city police in Liaoning Province have harassed and persecuted Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Jiang Jie's family for a long time. Ms. Jiang's husband, Mr. Chen Dongping, was illegally arrested twice. Mr. Chen became very sick from the long term persecution and passed away on August 12, 2006. On September 8, Ms. Jiang was arrested again by Fushun police and she is currently detained at Fushun City Detention Center. Fushun police attempted to shift the blame on Falun Gong for Mr. Chen's death. At this time, the police are persecuting Ms. Jiang Jie with all kinds of torture methods, trying to force her to slander Falun Gong and its founder.

Since 1999, the beginning of the persecution, Ms. Jiang has been illegally detained twice for more than two years at Shenyang's Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. After she was released, the police tried repeatedly to arrest her, but did not succeed.

Mr. Chen was also arrested twice. On March 4, 2003, the police followed their child home from school, broke into their home, confiscated the family's belongings, and arrested Mr. Chen. At 1 p.m. on May 12, 2004, the police again arrested Mr. Chen in front of his home. The police confiscated the family's belongings again, and took away Mr. Chen's 13-year-old daughter, Chen Wanchi. The child resisted, so several police dragged her to the police car and even tore her pants during the struggle.

Due to the severe mental pressure from the persecution over several years, this family has lived in constant terror. Mr. Chen Dongping suddenly became sick and suffered chest pain, shortness of breath, and lower limb edema. He died on August 12, 2006. His death was caused by the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong.

On the morning of September 8, 2006, Ms. Jiang Jie went to shop for food after her daughter had left for school. She was arrested by Fushun city police, and among them was Liu Pinghe. They took her key, broke into her home, and confiscated many things, including a computer and printer. When the child came home, she could not find her mother anywhere. Later she learned her mother was arrested and sent to Luotaishanzhuang Brainwashing Center. Now the young girl lives on the street with no one taking care of her.

Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Zhang Liuqing, in His 60s, Sentenced to Nine Years of Forced Labor

Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the minghui.ca website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).

Practitioner Mr. Zhang Liuqing is in his 60s. He lived at Group 9, Liuan Village, Hesheng Town, Wenjiang District, Chengdu City. He retired from the Wenjiang District Repair Factory due to illnesses. After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, Zhang Liuqing was arrested, threatened, savagely beaten, and illegally detained. He was forced to leave his home on February 3, 2002, and his pension was cut off. Mr. Zhang was reported and arrested on July 5, 2002, and was detained at Wenjiang Detention Center the next day. Falun Gong Practitioner Hu Xiaobo, 62, from Heilongjiang Province Forced To Leave Home to Avoid Persecution

Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the minghui.ca website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).

Falun Gong practitioner Hu Xiaobo is 62 years old and lives in Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province. He began practicing Falun Gong in 1998. He went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in late July 1999, and was arrested on Tiananmen Square and taken to Zhanqian Police Station. From there he was taken to Fengtai Stadium, where he held a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention. In the evening, Hu Xiaobo was taken back to Jiamusi City, and officers from the Jiamusi City Police Department directly sent him to Jiamusi City Detention Center, where he was held for fifteen days. Li Yunyang, head of the city police department and other officers extorted more than 10,000 yuan before releasing Mr. Hu.

Hu Xiaobo went to Beijing again to appeal for justice for Falun Gong on October 20, 2000. He was arrested at Tiananmen Square and taken to Jiamusi City Liaison Office in Beijing, where he was held for seven days. The Jiamusi City police took him to a local detention center and held him there for 27 days. Hu Xiaobo was made to pay for the expenses incurred when people from his work unit and the police department picked him up in Beijing. His work unit deducted 3,000 yuan from his salary, and officers from the Xiangyang Police Department in Jiamusi City extorted 4,000 yuan from his family before he was released.

Four officers from Xiangyang Police Department ransacked Hu Xiaobo’s home in May 2003 without following any due legal procedure. They took away Mr. Hu's Falun Gong books and audio cassettes, and tried to take him away as well. Hu Xiaobo escaped, but had to leave his home to avoid further persecution.
