  • Falun Gong Practitioner Wang Shoushan Dies as a Result of Persecution by the 610 Office in Juxian, Shandong Province

Mr. Wang Shoushan, Falun Gong practitioner from Juxian, Shandong province, was arrested by 610 Office personnel in Juxian on March 7, 2006. They kept him at the Juxian Detention Center, the Wangcun No. 2 Forced Labor Camp in Shandong, and the "Law Enforcement Center" (a brainwashing center) in Shandong and other places, where he had to perform forced labor and was subjected to brainwashing. Due to this persecution, Mr. Wang became seriously ill. He was diagnosed with liver cancer, and the Juxian 610 office released him in order to avoid responsibility. Mr. Wang passed away around September 6, 2006.

Mr. Wang Shoushan, 58, was the chief doctor at the Chinese Medicine Department of the People's Branch in Juxian People's Hospital, Rizhao City, Shandong Province. Mr. Wang was illegally arrested at around 10 a.m. on March 7, 2006. At the time, he was at his workplace, and he was taken away by the Juxian 610 office leader Liu Yanping, a 610 officer whose last name is Zhao, and Wang Kuiyuan, chief of the Xiaodian County Police Station.

Liu Yanping forced Mr. Wang to take them to his home, where they confiscated his family's property. They even stopped a member of this family, Wei Yuqing, from entering the home. They searched Mr. Wang's home and confiscated most of his truth clarification materials about Falun Gong. They also took a 21-inch color TV (worth more than 2600 yuan), a VCD player (700 yuan), and a tape recorder (75 yuan).

Mr. Wang Shoushan was arrested and taken to the Juxian Detention Center, where they detained him for 27 days. He was forced to work from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day. He had to do jobs such as folding gloves, peeling onions, and cleaning peanuts. They did not give him enough food to eat during the entire time he worked there. In the morning they gave him two small buns with cold water. At noon they gave him only one bun with water and two buns in the evening with cold water.

On the morning of April 2, they sent Mr. Wang to the Wangcun Second Forced Labor Camp in Shandong for six days of "transformation" and brainwashing. Then they sent him to the Shandong "Law Education Center" for more torture and brainwashing sessions.

Constant hunger and heavy forced labor, plus many days of brainwashing, severely harmed Mr. Wang's health, both physically and mentally. He became very ill. On April 11, he was sent to a hospital for an examination and was diagnosed with liver cancer. Shirking their responsibilities, the doctors at the hospital told Mr. Wang's employer to take him back on April 12. Mr. Wang was a very healthy man before they arrested him.

In order to cover up their crimes, the Juxian 610 Office gave Mr. Wang infusion treatments for two days, but his

condition worsened. The hospital administrator Pang Zunqiao then took Mr. Wang to the Juxian Center Hospital for medical tests, which then showed that he had a malignant tumor on the upper right lobe of his liver. Mr. Wang's family and everyone who knew him were shocked that a perfectly health man could be abused to the point of such serious illness within a span of a month.

In addition to the brainwashing sessions, the authorities also persecuted him financially. They required that he pay 3,000 yuan up front, and even forced his son to accompany him. Every day they were charged about 100 yuan. They charged him more than 1,300 Yuan for brainwashing him for eleven days.

On March 7, 2006, the Juxian 610 Office arrested a member of his family Wei Yuqing, who is also a Falun Gong practitioner. They put her in the Juxian Detention Center for ten days, fined her 1,000 yuan, and forced her to pay daily expenses of 20 yuan. The detention center also forced them to pay for "study materials." A female Falun Gong practitioner named Feng Zaifang, from Xiaodianzhen Jinduncun, was also illegally arrested as a part of the same "case." They detained her for fifteen days and fined her.

After they released Mr. Wang Shoushan, he returned home but never recovered. He suffered from swelling in the abdomen and could no longer take care of himself. He passed away around September 6, 2006.

On September 12, 2006, one week after Mr. Wang Shoushan died as a result of persecution, the Juxian 610 office arrested four more local Falun Gong practitioners. The people at the 610 office tried to find out who sent the message about the persecution of Mr. Wang to the Minghui website. These four practitioners are Ms. Wang Shuping, about 60, a retired teacher; Ms. Feng Zaifang, in her 50s; Mr. Pang Xiangdong, in his 40s, and his wife, in her 40s. Mr. Pang's wife showed symptoms of a serious illness and they released her the same afternoon. The other three practitioners are detained at the Juxian Detention and brainwashing center, and are being tortured.

More Details of the Brutal Persecution That Led to the Death of Practitioner Zhang Jieping

Mr. Zhang Jieping from Chongqing City died from respiratory failure on September 5, 2006. He died after over 4 months of torture by policemen from Baihelin Detention Center in Shapingba District.

Mr. Zhang Jieping was a 56-year-old retired worker from Jialing Plant in Chongqing City. He started to practice Falun Gong in May 1995. He conducted himself according to the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." He worked very hard, and was kindhearted, honest and healthy. He had a good reputation and was well-respected at the plant.

Zhang Jieping was illegally arrested four times after Jiang Zemin's regime began the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999. He was taken by force to the plant's brainwashing center twice and detained at the county's detention center twice. He was sent to the forced labor camp and detained there for 2 years. The prolonged persecution did great harm to his body and mind.

In May 2000, the Party Secretary of the plant's subsidiary company deceived him into going to the plant's brainwashing center. There he was persecuted for one month. On November 9, 2000, he tried to go to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. However, he was stopped at the train station by policemen from his plant and members of the 610 Office. He was later detained at the plant's brainwashing center, and then he was sent to the county's detention center for four months.

On September 30, 2001, Zhang Jieping was arrested for clarifying the truth at his plant. His home was searched for money and personal belongings, which were confiscated. After being tortured for a month at the county's detention center, he was sentenced to two years of forced labor. During his detention at the Xishanping Forced Labor Camp in Chongqing City, he endured various tortures such as frequent beatings by policemen and drug addict inmates, lengthy periods of forced standing and confinement in a small room. His health suffered greatly and he lost the ability to walk.

On April 15, 2006, he was arrested again for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong. The policemen from Jingkou Police Station sent him to the county's detention center. The policemen asked his family to sign the arrest warrant, but they refused. So, the policemen signed the form themselves and searched his home. Zhang Jieping was detained at the detention center for over four months this time. He was not allowed to make phone calls or have his family visit. He was totally isolated from the outside world and brutally tortured. On August 29, 2006, his son was finally allowed to visit him. He was already emaciated and paralyzed. He couldn't move his hands or feet and could only speak with a weak voice. That same day, he was sent to the 1st People's Hospital in Shapingba District. The "treatment" he received at the hospital under the close surveillance of a group of policemen did not help. Instead, his condition deteriorated quickly. He passed away at the hospital on September 5, 2006.

The Cases of Persecution against Falun Gong Practitioners in Li County, Hebei Province

    1. Ms. He Rongmiao is from Li County in Hebei Province. She had many illnesses prior to practicing Falun Gong. In 1997, she was fortunate enough to start the practice. Her illnesses went away and she had a very healthy body and harmonious family. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. He Rongmiao and three other practitioners from her village went to Beijing to clarify the truth. They were intercepted by the police and sent to Baoding City in Hebei Province. Ms. He Rongmiao was then taken back to a school at Li County the same day. The next day, she was taken home by Li Hefang, the Secretary of the CCP Political and Judiciary Committee of Xinxing Town, Li County and the CCP Secretary of her own village. Her house was ransacked that afternoon. Falun Gong books were taken away. On November 14, 1999, Ms. He Rongmiao and another practitioner of her village went to Beijing to clarify the truth again. When they were asking for directions to the Appeals Office at Beijing, plainclothes policemen took their identification cards and locked them up at the Hebei Province Liaison Office in Beijing. They were taken back and put in a detention center by policeman Chen Guixing from Li County and Party Secretary of Xinxing Town Zhang Yongjiang. The next day, the Xinxing Town government detained local Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. He Rongmiao's husband was detained for a night and illegally fined three thousand yuan. Their fourteen-year-old son had to stay home by himself. Ms. He Rongmiao was released after being detained for over fifty days. She had ten thousand yuan extorted from her, plus she was forced to pay for a meal that cost several hundred yuan. The police harassed her for several days and often stayed outside her home to monitor her.

Before May 1, 2001, Li Hefang, Dagui and Beiyan stayed outside the homes of Ms. He Rongmiao and another practitioner to monitor them for five days.

During the 16th National Congress of Communist Party of China in 2002, the police went to ask Ms. He Rongmiao, "Are you going to go to Beijing? Isn't your Teacher asking you to go to Beijing?"

Ms. He Rongmiao replied, "Our Teacher did not tell us to go or not to go to Beijing. It's our own decision whether to go to Beijing."
A few days later, the police from Xinxing Town arrested her and put her into the Li County Brainwashing Center for more than ten days. Afterwards, she was transferred to the Zhuozhou "Legal Education Center" (brainwashing center) in Baoding City in Hebei Province. The authorities at the center told her family that she was treated nicely, but actually she was tortured badly. She was forced every day to watch videotapes that slandered Falun Gong. For protesting the abuse,610 Office agent Gao Xuefei slapped her face. She started a hunger strike to protest. Gao Xuefei and two other persecutors Xiaogu and Xiaoyu locked her and another female practitioner from Baoding City Number Two Hospital into a small room without heat or light. They force-fed them with hot pepper powder and beat Ms. He Rongmiao's legs and back with a torture instrument. They tied her onto a chair and force-fed her. After being tortured for a month, she was sent to the Li County Brainwashing Center for more persecution. Once a persecutor asked her, "Is the 'Tiananmen Self-Immolation' true?" She said that it was staged. That person then cuffed her and another practitioner Yang Jianhui to a tree in the courtyard and did not allow them to go to bathroom. They were cuffed for several hours while that persecutor played pool nearby. It was very cold in the evening. 610 Office agent Xiaohui handcuffed Ms. He Rongmiao's arms around a column of the building. One day, a person from Wan'an County in Hebei Province asked Ms. He Rongmiao and another practitioner from Wufu Village in Li County whether they would still practice Falun Gong. They replied that they would. They were dragged to the courtyard and cuffed to trees. Ms. He Rongmiao was handcuffed to a thorny bush so that she had to squat all the time. Ms. He Rongmiao was released later after her family was fined four thousand yuan without being given a receipt. Her legs swelled up after she went home. Her legs healed after she studied the Fa and did the exercises. Afraid that the police would persecute her more, her family members restricted her activities.

    1. Falun Gong practitioners Xiaoge and her mother-in-law from Hua Village in Li County were arrested and abused at Liwu Town in Li County. Zhu Quan ordered Li Junjiang from Nanguan Group in Liwu Town to beat Xiaoge with her husband's belt and humiliate her by groping her breasts. He said, "Do you know your husband's belt? Now I am using it to beat you. We have orders that it is OK for us to beat you to death." Xiaoge managed to escape with righteous thoughts after being tortured for a night. Her elderly mother-in-law was not released until the police extorted ten thousand yuan from them.

She was released after paying a fine of seven thousand yuan. Niu Heifeng processed her case and took the money. On May 13, 2000, Qingfang was deceived into going to Xinxing Town and illegally imprisoned there for over twenty days. Li Hefang tried to force her to denounce Teacher and Falun Gong. She was fined two thousand yuan and then released. On November 13, 2002, Qingfang and practitioner Ms. He Qiaojin went to Nandaliu Village in Li County to clarify the truth and were reported to the police by the Village Party Secretary Zhou Qingnian. Qingfang was arrested and imprisoned at the Li County Detention Center for a year. Two days after she was released, policeman Chen Guixing went to her home to extort money, but the family refused to comply. Out of revenge, he sent her to Baoding City for forced labor for two years. She was frequently harassed after being released from the forced labor camp.
    1. Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Chunyan from Li County was arrested and taken to the Xinxing Town by Li Hefang. She was pressured to denounce Teacher and Falun Gong and to sign a document to pay a fine. Seeing that she was not able to pay the fine and also did not cooperate, Li Hefang arrested her husband to further threaten their family. Their family was so frightened that they sold their own food to pay the two thousand yuan fine. Li Hefang and Yang Yongqun led others to ransack Zhang Chunyan's home on the evening of December 28, 2000, taking away her Falun Gong books and Teacher's picture and sending her to a detention center, where she was beaten brutally. Her family spent three hundred yuan to take Li Hefang to a lavish restaurant as a bribe for her release. She was released four months later.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Helian from Xinxing Town was reported to the police when putting up Falun Gong posters on electricity poles along the roadside with other practitioners on November 13, 2002. They were arrested and imprisoned at the Li County Detention Center for sixty days. In order to visit her, her family sold their own food to buy wine and cigarettes for policeman Chen Guixing and take him to a restaurant. They spent five thousand yuan in total.
    1. Ms. Cheng Shaokun from Li County began practicing Falun Gong in 1997. She was reported to the police, and she was arrested and taken to the Li County Detention Center, whose director was Li Wenyan, in 2002. Her husband, son, mother and sister all knelt down to her to beg her to sign the statement promising not to practice Falun Gong. Unable to withstand the emotional pressure, she signed the statement. She was released after being imprisoned for twenty-eight days. During that period, her family spent eight thousand yuan to buy gifts for the persecutors to get her out.
