Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng was a Falun Gong practitioner in Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province. She was arrested three times and suffered much persecution and torture. While imprisoned in Jiamusi City Forced Labor Camp, she was handcuffed with her arms behind her back and forced to do slave labor. Several doctors and guards also forcibly drew blood from her. Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng was released after three years and one week of imprisonment. However, she never recovered from the abuse she suffered in detention, and passed away on September 13, 2006.
Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng, 42 years old, was a graduate of Jiamusi City Normal College and was a teacher at Youyi Sugar Factory-Affiliated School. When the persecution against Falun Gong started on July 20, 1999, the Education Bureau expelled her from work under the guise of a layoff.
Ms. Zhang was "illegally imprisoned" in 2000. She developed scabies all over her body that itched profusely, and the pain was unbearable. Later, the scabies developed into scabs that oozed pus. She could not wear any clothing and could not take care of herself. She suffered under this pain for several months.
In April 2002, when Zhang Xiaogeng was again imprisoned at Jiamusi City Detention Center, she went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. The guards instructed several male prisoners to force-feed her. They handcuffed her on the floor with all four limbs stretched out. A thick plastic tube was inserted through her mouth down to her stomach. They force-fed her cold, salty (high density salt water) corn starch paste. Ms. Zhang vomited and suffered terrible pain. She was handcuffed on the floor for a long time and was not released even when she needed to use the restroom.
After one-and-a-half months in the detention center, Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng was sentenced to three years of forced labor. She suffered more brutal persecution in Jiamusi Labor Camp.
Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng refused to do the slave labor at the labor camp in 2000. Guard Guo Zhenwei and another guard beat her with police batons for more than twenty minutes. They turned up the radio volume in the hallway to cover up the noises from the beating. Ms. Zhang was bruised all over her body and had to be bedridden for two weeks after the abuse. Her buttocks turned completely black.
One morning guard Sun Limin tried to forced Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng and Ms. Ma Cuihong to work. They both refused, saying they had not committed any crime and therefore were not criminals and should not be subjected to forced labor. Soon two male guards arrived and began beating the two women with police batons. Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng questioned guard Zhang Xiaodan: "We did not commit any crime! How can you publicly beat us?" The police answered, "This is the law." Several female guards kicked Ms. Zhang and Ms. Ma with their leather boots, yelling, "We will stop only when you work." After the beating, a tall, big guard pointed his police baton at Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng's face and said, "You look pretty! Smile at me, otherwise I will beat you again!"
On November 1, 2002, the labor camp attempted to force all practitioners to undergo brainwashing and write statements denouncing Falun Gong. Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng refused. Guards Li Xiujin and Zhang Xiaodan knocked her down to the floor and twisted one of her hands up from behind her back, then they pulled her other hand up over her shoulder and used a small set of handcuffs to handcuff both hands behind her back. She was unable to move her hands. The handcuffs cut deeply into her flesh. Two hours later when the guards opened the cuffs, her hands had lost any sensation and were swollen and purple. Ms. Zhang's hands were numb for three or four months afterwards and there was still a lump on her right wrist when she passed away in 2006.
Ms. Zhang suffered from the brutal torture of this "back handcuffing" several times. On May 7, 2003, thirteen days after she went on a hunger strike, she was extremely week and thin; yet, guard Hong Wei beat her with a police baton for more than two hours and handcuffed her arms behind her back, to force her give up her hunger strike. Another time when Ms. Zhang was back-handcuffed and the cuffs were cutting deeply into the flesh, she was in so much pain that she could hardly breathe and thought she would die. This torture lasted as long as three to four hours.
Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng also suffered other abuses in the labor camp, such as being forbidden to sleep for a long time, being forced to sit on a hard small stool for a long time, and forced to do slave labor.
After three years of brutal persecution in the labor camp, on her release in 2005, Zhang Xiaogeng was extremely weak. She often felt dizzy and coughed a lot. Ms. Zhang's health deteriorated quickly after May 2006. She lost consciousness in August and passed away on September 13, 2006.
The following is a summary of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution against Falun Gong practitioners in Xinjin County, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province that has taken place since the CCP started openly persecuting Falun Gong practitioners on July 20, 1999. These facts however, represent merely the tip of the iceberg. We urge those with more detailed information to expose more facts of the persecution in order to bring it to an end.
1. Ms. Yang Jiqiong (60), Ms. Yang Jiyou (57) and Ms. You Xuewen (62)
All three are from Baodun Village, Xinping Town, Xinjin County. Because they persisted in practicing Falun Gong, they have repeatedly suffered from the CCP persecution.
On December 27, 2000, the three traveled all the way to Beijing to clarify the truth about Falun Gong. When they arrived at Tiananmen Square in Beijing on December 29, 2000, the Beijing police illegally arrested and handcuffed them. They were put into a police van and taken to Chengdu City's Beijing office. On the way there, the police repeatedly punched them in the eyes. On the afternoon of December 29, 2000, Ms. You Xuewen and Ms. Yang Jiyou were transferred to Tianjin. At Tianjin Police Station, the police cursed and beat them. They also kicked Ms. You Xuewen. They were brought back to Chengdu City's Beijing office at around 1:00 a.m. The police frisked Ms. Yang Jiyou and stole 500 yuan from her.
Peng Shuquan, deputy chief of Wujin Town Police Station in Xinjin County at the time, is now deputy director of the 1st Section of Xinjin County Police Department. Peng and a young policeman went to Beijing and took the three practitioners back to Xinjin. They were imprisoned in the Taiping Police Station in Xinjin where they were subjected to police brutality, including punching, cursing, kicking and slapping on the face. Later they were transferred to another detention facility. Their homes were ransacked and their families had money extorted from them as so-called "fines." Ms. Yang Jiqiong was detained for fifty days and had 3,000 yuan extorted from her. [Because her family was unable to pay for the money,] the police took her house property certificate as collateral. To this date, the police are still in possession of the property certificate.
Ms. Yang Jiyou was detained for fifteen days and the police extorted 6,000 yuan from her. The police did not even issue a receipt. Ms. You Xuewen was detained for sixteen days and had 2,400 yuan extorted from her.
2. Ms. Jiang Bin (49), a resident in Dongdaqiao Village, Xinping Town, Xinjin County
Before Ms. Jiang Bin started practicing Falun Gong, she suffered from gastroptosis, gastrorrhagia and about twenty additional ailments. Shortly after she started to practice Falun Gong in 1997, her ailments were all miraculously cured. She has suffered from the CCP's severe persecution because she persisted in practicing Falun Gong.
When the CCP started the persecution in July 1999, Yu Shengliang, police chief of her town's police station, repeatedly went to her home to try to force her to give up practicing Falun Gong. She refused to comply each time. As a result, Yu Shengliang used it as an excuse to confiscate her house property certificate and her ID.
On March 16, 2000, Ms. Jiang Bin went to Beijing to clarify the truth about Falun Gong. On March 20, 2000, the police brought her back and imprisoned her in Wujin Town Police Station in Wujin Town, Xinjin County. She was imprisoned for fifteen days and had 4,000 yuan extorted from her as a "fine." Her husband does not practice Falun Gong. He gave the police an additional 1,300 yuan as a bribe to get her out of detention.
On June 27, 2001, Ms. Jiang Bin's son went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was brought back to Xinjin by the police. Lu Jun, chairman of her township's administration office, as well as Liu Shuquan, captain of the office, demanded 10,000 yuan from Ms. Jiang, or her son would be sent to Xinjin County Police Department. The word from the bureau was that they were interested in only the money, not her son. Ms. Jiang refused to give in to the threat. Her son ended up being imprisoned in Wujin Town Police Station in Wujin Town, Xinjin County for five days and 200 yuan was stolen from him. Ms. Jiang Bin was imprisoned in Chengxi Police Station in Chengxi, Xinjin County for two days and robbed of 500 yuan. The police repeatedly slapped her face until her mouth bled profusely. Ms. Jiang told the police, "As law enforcement officers, you have knowingly violated the law." The captain of the township's No. 3 Team replied, "There is no law for you Falun Gong practitioners. I am entitled to do whatever I like."
In July 2001, policemen Zhen Yu and Lu Jun went to Ms. Jiang Bin's home again. They lied to her, saying that they would award her 100 yuan if she agreed to give up practicing Falun Gong. Ms. Jiang refused of course, so they put a gun to her head and took her and another Falun Gong practitioner to Chengxi Police Station. They were imprisoned there for five days. The police forced them to do hard labor every day. In order to rescue her from the police, Ms. Jiang's family gave the police 1,000 yuan as a bribe.
In June 2003, the Secretary of the local Team, the mayor of the village, and eight other men broke into her home and stole two radios. She was taken to Chengxi Police Station again where she was tied to a tree for three consecutive days. Her family gave the police another 350 yuan as a bribe to have her released.
The Chengxi Police Station and the area's Administration Office often harassed her at her home until 2005.
Note:
On March 17, 2000, two female practitioners who were college students were imprisoned in Chengdu City's Beijing Office. They were locked in two separate rooms where they were gang-raped by three policemen. Practitioners overheard one of the college students saying in the room, "Only my mother has touched my body." Next she was heard sobbing continuously for about 30 minutes in the room. Then the three policemen left the room laughing aloud. Sixteen Falun Gong practitioners from Xinjin County witnessed the crime and saw that one of the rapists wore a name tag that said Wang Tao.
3. Ms. Wang Chuanxiu (53), a Resident of Baodun Village, Xinping Town, Xinjin County
Ms. Wang Chuanxiu began practicing Falun Gong in 1997. Shortly afterwards, her health and temperament were miraculously transformed. People from the area's Production Team commented, "She is a renewed person. Since she started practicing Falun Gong, her health and her temperament have improved. Her family became harmonious and she now has a good rapport with her neighbors." On June 4, 2000, Ms. Wang Chuanxiu traveled to Beijing to clarify the truth about Falun Gong and was arrested by the police at Tiananmen Square. She was brought to Chengdu City's Beijing office where she was frisked and robbed of 580 yuan. After she was transferred back to Xinjin County, she was imprisoned in Wujin Town Police Station for five days, imprisoned in a detention facility for thirty days and illegally fined 1,000 yuan.
On December 27, 2000, Ms. Wang Chuanxiu went to Beijing again to clarify the truth. As soon as she arrived at the Beijing Train Station, the Beijing police ordered her to curse Falun Gong and Teacher. She said, "I have never cursed anyone since I was little." Because she refused to curse, she was taken by police car to Chengdu City's Beijing office. On June 2, 2000, she was brought back to Xinjin County and imprisoned in Chengxi Police Station for four days. Next, the township government extorted 1,600 yuan from her and imprisoned her for another thirty days in a detention facility before they illegally sentenced her to one year in Nanmusi Women's Forced Labor Camp. After being tortured at the Chengdu Transport Station for eleven days, she was transferred to Nanmusi Women's Forced Labor Camp in Zizhong where she was subjected to all kinds of torture. A year later, she was released, but the township government officials had her watched and followed constantly.
4. Ms. Huang Chaofen (49), a Resident at Baodun Village, Xinping Town, Xinjin County
Ms. Huang Chaofen had been very frail and prone to illness since she was little. She suffered from more than ten types of illness, which cost her over 50 yuan for medicine per day. For over a decade, her illness continued to deteriorate. Shortly after she started practicing Falun Gong in 1998, her health was restored.
On March 16, 2000, she traveled to Beijing to clarify the truth about Falun Gong and ended up being arrested and imprisoned in Chengdu City's Beijing office. Two policemen from Xinjin County flew to Beijjing to pick her up and made her husband pay for the plane tickets. Ms. Huang Chaofen was imprisoned in Chengxi Police Station for fifteen days and was illegally fined 10,000 yuan. She was charged another 200 yuan in the name of food expenses during the illegal imprisonment.
Ms. Huang was arrested in September 2003 and November 2005 for distributing materials containing the truth about Falun Gong. Before the Chinese New Year 2006, the Anxi Police Station threatened her husband, demanding that he pay 500 yuan, or else they would arrest Ms. Huang after the Chinese New Year. Before 2005, policemen constantly harassed her at home and over the phone.
I am a practitioner who was persecuted during my detention at Wanjia Labor Camp in Heilongjiang Province. I witnessed the following instances of persecution of other Falun Gong practitioners with my own eyes.
Ms. Song Wenjuan, about 40 years old, is from Shuangchen, Heilongjiang Province. In late March 2006, the Twelfth Guards' Group of Wanjia Labor Camp resumed its rampant persecution of Falun Gong, attempting to force practitioners to renounce Falun Gong and Master. Ms. Song was the first who refused to cooperate with the persecution, saying, "Falun Dafa is great! Falun Dafa is a righteous way!" Guard Wang Na immediately dragged her off to be tortured. (Although I did not witness the torture itself, I later learned that the guards had tortured her with electric shocks to the point of unconsciousness.)
The guards then confined her to an iron chair until around June. As a result of this torture, her body became swollen, she was unable to move her wrists, and her toes became infected. After her condition had deteriorated to this point, the guards began to let her work again. They appointed dedicated persons to monitor her and did not allow her to speak with others.
In early July, chief Zhang Xiaohui admonished Ms. Song in front of the entire class. When she refused to reply to his question, the guards pushed her out of the room and slapped her in the face. When she came back, her cheeks were bruised.
Guard Zhou Yingfan once went to Ms. Song's room and humiliated her with vulgar language. She replied with a laugh, "Guard Zhou, I want to talk to you." He answered, "Are you in a position to talk to me?" The guards later took her upstairs, where they punished her by forcing her to stand. They made her stand from 4:00 a.m. when she got up until midnight, when they sent her back to bed. She now has generalized edema. Ms. Song is still imprisoned in Wanjia Labor Camp where she continues to suffer brutal persecution.
Ms. Shi Guizhi refused to renounce Falun Gong. Instead, she shouted, "Falun Dafa is great!" As a result, the female guards brutally beat her. When she came back, her whole body was black and blue, her cheeks were bruised, and her eyes were swollen shut.
Four practitioners refused to cooperate with the vicious guards, so the guards retaliated by suspending them and beating them, and then deprived them of sleep.
Ms. Sun Yanfang refused to renounce Falun Gong. Guard Liu Baibing summoned her and brutally tortured her until she could not move her wrists. In spite of this, they still forced her to work. Because of the repeated torture, she has rows of scars behind her knees to this day.
This was the second time that I was sent to Wanjia Labor Camp for persecution. When I arrived at the training room, the guards had me stand at attention and began going through my luggage. Next they made me remove all my clothing. After searching me, they gave me a uniform and began their persecution of so-called "education, transformation, and salvation."
