  • Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liao Youyuan Tortured to Death at the Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp in Changsha City

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liao Youyuan, an employee of the Hengyang City Instrument and Meter Plant in Changsha City, Hunan Province, was illegally arrested on June 14, 2005, when clarifying the truth. He was sentenced to forced labor and was tortured to death at Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp on December 18. The details await further investigation.

Liao Youyuan, 64 years old, began Falun Gong practice in 1996. He became very healthy after he started practicing Falun Gong. On July 20, 1999 the persecution began, and Liao Youyuan remained firmly devoted to practicing Falun Gong.

During the 2001 Chinese New Year, Liao Youyuan was illegally held at the Hengyang City Custody Center for six months. He clarified the truth about Falun Gong to people after his release.

Someone reported Liao Youyuan to police on June 14, 2005, when he clarified the truth near the Jiangdong Nonferrous Metals Smelter. Officers from the Bajiaotang Police Station in the Hengyang City Police Department arrested him and took him to the Bajiaotang Police Station. The police searched Mr. Liao, and political head Hu Shouxian and others beat him. Close to evening, a group of evildoers led by police officer Hu Shouxian ransacked Liao Youyuan's home and sent him to the No. 2 Detention Center in Hengyang City. They threatened Liao Youyuan's family and demanded money from them. His family refused to give the police extortion money. The perpetrators sent Liao Youyuan to the Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp in Changsha City on July 8, 2005, where Mr. Liao was tortured to death on December 18, 2005.

Due to the information blockade, the details surrounding his death are unclear. The camp authorities said that Liao Youyuan was ill and had an odor and so the inmates beat him.

According to a previous report on the Minghui/Clearwisdom website, all Falun Gong practitioners are forced to remove all clothing on arrival in Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp. Each practitioner is then isolated and monitored by three drug-addict inmates, handpicked by the guards. The three inmates follow the practitioner everywhere.

Mr. Fan Weihuai from Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province Suffers Persecution and Dies a Result

Mr. Fan Weihuai, 74 years old, was a retired employee of the Beifang Machine Factory in Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province. After he attended the Falun Gong study class held in Guangzhou City, he started practicing Falun Gong. After that, he always followed the standard of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance" as the behavior of a practitioner. His health was very good.

After July 20, 1999, local policeman Lu Xiaofei of the Beifang residential area in Chaoyang City forced practitioners to write the three statements. Whoever did not write the statements was arrested and sentenced to jail. Because local authorities often harassed him, 70-year-old Mr. Fan Weihui was forced to become destitute and homeless in September 2001.

No matter where he went, Mr. Fan Weihui persisted in clarifying the truth about Falun Gong, from which he had personally gained benefits. On March 17, 2002, Mr. Fan went to Beipiao. On April 17, he was arrested by officials who disregarded the law. He was then sentenced to a long jail term by CCP officials. He was sent to Dabei Jail in Shenyang City.

On December 7, 2005, Mr. Fan Weihuai was found to be suffering from terminal liver cancer in jail. The jail authorities knew he was close to death, so in order to shift the responsibility, they released him.

Mr. Fan Weihui passed away on December 12, 2005.

    (Continued)

    Abusive "Psychiatric Treatment"

All over Guangdong Province, normal, healthy Falun Gong practitioners are illegally detained in psychiatric hospitals and drug rehabilitation centres. Many others are injected or force-fed various drugs in local police stations, detention centers, forced labor camps, and brainwashing centers. The harmful effects of the drugs have cause some practitioners to become entirely paralysed or partially paralysed. The other harmful effects include but are not limited to blindness, deafness, putrefied muscle tissues and internal organs, memories loss, damaged organ functions and mental collapse. Some practitioners met with suddenly deaths due to the adverse affects of the drugs.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wen Fenhua from Mianhu Town, Jiexi County, Guangdong Province was arrested on the morning of May 30, 2005, by the Jiexi Police Department, the 610 Office and the Mianhu Police Station working jointly. She was injected with unknown drugs in the veins on her hands, wrists, and many other places, which left her covered with pinholes and dark blue scars. When her family saw her two weeks later, her eyes were closed, she was unable to move, she had to be spoon-fed, and she was unable to even turn herself over or use the toilet.

    Fabricating Lies:

The police fabricate lies and use scare tactics to torment practitioners and their families in two ways. For example, they mislead Falun Gong practitioners by saying a family member is critically ill, the family has some trouble, another family member who is also practicing has been arrested or sentenced, or someone has died. On the other hand, police deceive the families of Falun Gong practitioners by saying: Your husband or son is mentally ill and has disowned the family, and so on, to cause the family members a lot of anxiety.

Brainwashing and Forced "Transformation" Designed to Destroy Practitioners' Belief in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance:"

After being arrested, countless numbers of Falun Gong practitioners are sent to brainwashing centers. In various evil places, the guards force Falun Gong practitioners to repeatedly watch television programs filled with fabricated news and evil doctrines that slander Falun Gong. In order to exert further pressure on practitioners and threaten practitioners' families and colleagues, they threaten to prevent practitioners from continuing at their jobs, and restrict their access to schools. Also, all sorts of torture methods and sleep deprivation are used to torment practitioners until they are muddle-headed, so that practitioners will sign "guarantee statements." Every day practitioners are forced to write so-called "ideological reports" and slander Falun Gong, so that practitioners will be transformed into bad people who are fake, vicious, and like to fight with other people. The transformed people are in turn used to attack and transform other practitioners.

    Torture Reenactment

    Brutal Force-Feeding Through the Nose:

Those Falun Gong practitioners that resist the coercive efforts and conduct hunger strikes undergo cruel force-feeding at the hands of the police. A rubber hose (same size as those used for siphoning gasoline) is inserted into the nasal passage and down into the stomach. The tubing is intentionally pulled in and out a few times to cause extreme discomfort and pain. The practitioners' gullets, tracheae, and lungs can be injured because of this technique, and many have died from force-feeding.

In January 2000, Falun Gong practitioner Gao Xianmin, a teacher at Jinan University in Guangzhou City, was force-fed concentrated salt water after he went on a hunger strike at Tangxia Detention Center in Tianhe District. Warden Zhu Wenyong directed four criminal inmates to stand on Gao Xianmin's limbs, pinch his nose, and pour a packet of salt into a bottle to mix with only a little water. They began pouring the concentrated salt solution into the feeding tube before the salt was fully dissolved. Gao Xianmin died on the spot from suffocation as the solution went into his lungs instead of his stomach.

Brutal Force-Feeding and Tortures Involving Human Urine and Feces

Falun Gong practitioners have been soaked in sewage or a mixture of excrement and water, and force-fed with toilet water, feces and urine. Practitioner's heads have been held over excrement so that they are forced to breathe the terrible smell. They have been force-fed ice-water, mustard, or boiling water, and have been injected with poisonous drugs and nerve-damaging drugs. In 2003, at the Guangzhou Huangpu Drug Rehabilitation Center, Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Mengye (classmate of Hu Jintao at Qinghua University) was force-fed with toilet water.

Exposing to Extreme Hot and Cold Temperatures

Policemen drench practitioners with cold water and force them to stand outside in the winter, force practitioners to wear thin underwear and stand outside for several days and nights or even longer, force them to stand in the burning sun in the summer, and lock practitioners in small cells at a temperature of more than 40 degrees, and then turn up the heat.

    Torture Sketch

    Horrific and Inhuman Tortures

Furthermore, there are tortures such as being forced to stand for a long time, forced to squat, sit on a small stool, locked to a metal chair (tiger's bench), having their hands, feet and body tied into torturous positions, cruel beatings and detainment in small cells which could be covered in red, yellow, green, black and white mold with fetid odor on the ceiling, floor, and walls. Almost everyone contracts scabies and other skin diseases under the inhuman living conditions. The guards then scratch the pustules on the practitioner's bodies with unclean knives or spoons, which is extremely painful and causes flesh and blood to stick together as the practitioners bleed all over the floor. Guards, police, and inmates will press down or stand on practitioners, pull off their clothes, scratch practitioners' skin, and beat their ribs with metal rods battened to a board. Afterwards, the victims' skin is black and purple, bleeding, swollen, and unbearably painful.

Other tortures include pressing a long wooden stool into practitioner's bodies until the stool is covered with blood; long-term sleep deprivation, use of high decibel noise to damage auditory nerves, disallowing practitioners to use the toilet, disallowing female practitioners to change sanitary napkins or use toilet paper, not allowing them to wash for several months during the hot summer, exposing them to mosquitoes, vipers, scorpions, and other poisonous insects, nipping the flesh with iron pincers, pricking with sharp metal implements, tossing darts at them, hammering bamboo sticks and toothpicks under their finger nails and toe nails, pricking with metal wire, puncturing the fingers with sharp objects, sealing the mouth with tape while beating the practitioners, stuffing their mouths with socks, cuffing them to a metal ring that is attached to the floor for several months, extreme physical labor, forced abortions, torturing healthy practitioners until they are disabled, and innumerable other kinds of strange and horrific tortures.

    2. Government Offices in Guangdong Responsible for Illegally Detaining Falun Gong Practitioners

The prisons in Guangdong that illegally detain Falun Gong practitioners are directly administered under Guangdong Province Administration Bureau, which is controlled by Guangdong Province Office of Justice. The forced labor camps are directly under Guangdong Province Forced Labor Bureau, which is controlled by the Office of Justice. The Office of Justice is in turn controlled by Guangdong Province Politics and Judiciary Committee, otherwise known as the 610 Office. The local 610 Offices direct local police stations to arrest practitioners and take them to brainwashing centers. The Provincial Politics and Judiciary Committee and 610 Office control all of these agencies. The provincial 610 Office is controlled by a central 610 Office.

    Prisons

Guangdong Sihui Prison holds male Falun Gong practitioners. Of the dozens of practitioners held there, the known ones include: Zhuang Wenshu, Zhou Lei, Li Zhenmin, Chao Hao, Li Fulin, Li Zhenge, Li Jianhui, Zhou Xiaowei from Shenzhen, Feng Bingkun, Rao Chaoyuan, Li Yongjun, Wang Zhongcheng, Xie Shaodong, Zhang Guoliang, Hu Hui, Li Fengyou from Guangzhou, Chen Wusheng and two brothers, Huang Guiquan, Lin Qing from Jieyang, Xu Shuhua, Mai Yuefa from Yunfu, Li Qiaosen from Dongguan, Zhang Wenxue, Cai Yunxian, Lin Wuyong, Zeng Qing from Zhuhai, Zhang Yuhui from Zhaoqing, and Lin Xiangrui from Chaozhou.

Guangdong Yangjiang Prison currently holds more than 20 Falun Gong practitioners including: Li Kun and Li Xinhua (father and son), Wu Jinda, Liu Jiansong, He Geng Qing, Chen Xiangqian, Liang Loutu, Zheng Bao, Ke Zhengji from Maoming, Chen Wenjie, Guo Changwei from Jiangmen, and Chen Jinghui from Shaoguan.

Guangdong No. 3 Prison, (also known as Meizhou Prison) imprisons male Falun Gong practitioners including: Xie Hanzhu, Zhong Xiling, Zeng Haiping from Meizhou, and Liu Liping from Shanwei.

Meizhou Jiaoling Prison imprisons male Falun Gong practitioners such as: Cai Yonghua, Wu Kaitao, and Huang Shirong from Jieyang.

Shaoguan Beijiang River Prison imprisons male Falun Gong practitioners such as: Huang Yongzhong, Zheng Junbiao from Jieyang, Lin Yang, and Huang Kui from Qinghua University.

Guangzhou Women's Prison is holding female Falun Gong practitioners including: Zhu Luoxin, Han Yuejuan, Zhang Shunying, Li Qiong, Zhu Yuhong, Zou Wene, Liang Zihui, Liu Ailing, Xie Kunxiang, Wu Yanna from Guangzhou, Chen Jundiao, Wu Peifang, Wu Peifang from Chaozhou, Huang Chufang, Zhang Minhua from Puning, Cai Hui, Lin Shaofang, Lin Lifen from Jieyang, Li Meiping, Guo Yafen, Zhao Yumei from Meizhou, Feng Yuqiong from Zhaoqing, Peng Xiaohong, Lin Jinghong, Chen Jiequn, Li Meihua from Yunfu, Guo Qunhui, Jiang Xiaoming, Huang Fangyan from Jiangmen, Ye Hongfang from Heyuan, Zhou Jing from Zhuhai, Huang Xiuchao from Suixi, Ma Yan, Jiang Yuxia, Li Chunyan, and Li Yanfang from Qinghua University.

    Forced Labor Camps

Forced labor camps in Guangdong Province include Shenzhen No. 2 (male), Guangzhou Huadu (male), and Guangdong Sanshui, which imprisons male Falun Gong practitioners. Guangzhou and Shenzhen at one time imprisoned more than 200 Falun Gong practitioners. Guangzhou Chatou and Guangdong Sanshui imprison female practitioners, and at one time imprisoned as many as several thousand Falun Gong practitioners.

    Brainwashing Centers:

Brainwashing centers are used to illegally detain Falun Gong practitioners. Moreover, a brainwashing center does not require any legal procedure or evidence to randomly seize and detain people, yet they abuse and torture practitioners with extreme cruelty. Many Falun Gong practitioners have been injured, disabled, or killed from such persecution.

Brainwashing Centers in Guangdong include: Sanshui, Guangzhou Chatou, Maoming, Zhuhai Fumin, Meizhou, Shantou, Zhaoqing, Zhanjiang, Shenzhen, Shaoguan Huanggang, and Qingyuan Drum Training Field. Among them, Sanshui operates for long terms, normally three months per term. For those who do not "transform," detention in a brainwashing center can be extended for another three months, repeatedly. Some practitioners have been held there for several years.

In 2005, policemen and unlawful people from all over Guangdong carried out a few large-scale raids to find Falun Gong practitioners. So far, several hundred practitioners are still being held in brainwashing centers, detention centers, and forced labor camps where they are suffering inhumane torture and persecution.

The above are the persecution methods used on Falun Gong practitioners to get them to renounce their beliefs. They are used systematically by the evil Chinese Communist regime and have been designed layer by layer.

Currently, this systematic, organized and large-scale brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners who believe in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" is still going on. This 6-year, country-wide, and completely inhuman persecution is not only the persecution of Falun Gong, even more, it overrides human conscience and morality, and destroys humanity and kindness. Together, let's together stop this persecution of kind and innocent people.

Torturing Practitioners at Nanmusi Women's Forced Labor Camp

Nanmusi Women's Forced Labor Camp in Sichuan Province is notorious for following CCP policy and has been persecuting Falun Gong practitioners for a very long time. In order to achieve the goals of "transforming" practitioners, gaining recognition for this achievement, and receiving bonuses and promotions, some camp guards use very brutal means to torment the illegally detained practitioners. Out of all of them, the most cruel and vicious are Li Qi, No. 8 Squadron's Captain; Deputy Captain Yin Dan; and police officer Li Xia.

Li Xia once threatened practitioners at Xinjin's Huaqiao 610 Brainwashing Center, "If you are not 'transformed' here, you will be 'transformed' at Zizhong Forced Labor Camp. Over there you won't be so 'relaxed.' They don't use torture there, but we can use instruments of torture on you, as it is allowed by our policies." Guard Yin Dan also often commands the drug addicts, saying, "You must deal with these Falun Gong practitioners 'well.'" Li Qi even threatened, "You must make the stream of Falun Gong practitioners' blood become a river."

By order of the guards, besides monitoring and physically punishing practitioners, some prison inmates also frequently abuse and cruelly beat practitioners. They even sexually assault or use poison on practitioners. Those who exert their utmost to beat and curse practitioners are treated favorably by the guards. The guards often "praise" such criminals and reduce their prison terms. Officer Li Xia frequently buys food to reward the inmates that do her bidding. However, the guards punish those few prisoners who are not willing to persecute practitioners.

At Nanmusi Women's Forced Labor Camp, the guards often torture practitioners with electric batons and a variety of other instruments. They curse, beat, and physically punish practitioners. The following are some of the horrific crimes committed by prisoners at the instigation of labor camp guards.

Forcing Practitioners to Stand for a Long Time, Beating and Tying Them Up

Li Qi has forced practitioners to stand in the "army posture" for as long as 24 hours at a time in order to destroy a practitioner's will. She has also sent prisoners to take turns monitoring the practitioners, which has resulted in complaints from the prisoners. If practitioners refused to stand without moving or blink their eyes even once, they are immediately beaten. Many times practitioners have forced themselves to keep their eyes open even though they were exhausted from lack of sleep. One time practitioners were tormented in this way for more than 20 days in a row. Ms. Zhu Yuehui was made to endure this torture longer than anyone else--61 days.

One day in the winter of 2002, an Australian journalist went to Nanmusi to find out about a torture method called the "water dungeon." Li Qi denied that any such thing was used at the camp. Li took the journalist on a tour from the first floor to third floor. When he saw 13 practitioners being forced to stand, the journalist asked, "Why are they all standing?" Li replied, "They like to stand." Upon hearing this, practitioners Ms. Luo Meng, Ms. Duan Wenlian, Ms. Peng Shiqun, and Ms. Wang Huiying, age 59, pointed at Li Qi and said, "We don't like to stand! She makes us stand." Later that day, the four practitioners were surrounded by prisoners and cruelly beaten for several hours.

After dinner, the guards again ordered some inmates to take the four practitioners to an isolated place and beat them some more. When they dragged Ms. Luo Meng, practitioner Ms. Gao Huifang stood up to stop them, "If they beat Luo Meng again, I will die in front of you today." When she learned that Luo Meng had been tortured again, Ms. Gao angrily rushed out the room, smashed her head on a cement baluster, and immediately passed out. [Editor's note: The principles of Falun Gong teach people to cherish life and that suicide is sinful. Under the terrible persecution, however, some practitioners have adopted extreme methods. Such behavior is wrong. We hope that all Falun Gong practitioners will follow the principles of Falun Gong.] Ms. Gao was sent to the hospital and given oxygen for several hours. After she recovered, she was forced to stand for two weeks. After Ms. Gao smashed her head on the wall, many prisoners cruelly tortured Duan Wenlian, Peng Shiqun, and Wang Huiying in a private room. Then Li Qi took Ms. Luo Meng out of the room and when she came back, she had a piece of paper in her hand. She claimed it was a "guarantee statement" written by Ms. Luo and so they would no longer beat her. Ms. Luo Meng had already signed and put her fingerprints on the sheet, making everyone wonder what drug Li force-fed Luo Meng in order to obtain the statement. Then Li personally beat Peng Shiqun and said that, even if she were not in uniform, she would want to kill any practitioner who spoke the truth. Finally, they cuffed Ms. Luo Meng and Ms. Peng Shiqun to a tree, and then allowed other prisoners to beat and curse them. Afterwards, Ms. Luo Meng, Ms. Peng Shiqun, and Ms. Gao Huifang were forced to stand for two weeks.

Elderly practitioner Ms. Wang Huiying was forced to sit with both legs crossed and was tied up. When she was untied four and a half days later, her buttocks were putrefying in her body waste, and so much flesh was destroyed that bone was visible. During that period, the police still compelled her to listen to recordings that slandered Falun Gong and tried to make her write a Repentance Statement promising not to practice Falun Gong. Practitioners continuously sent forth righteous thoughts to overcome the tribulation.

Cruel Beatings, Being Stripped and Beaten

Between September 15 and 18, 2002, officer Li Qi, Yin Dan, and Li Xia transferred 20 prisoners from other squadrons to add to the 30 prisoners in Squadron
No. 8, and ordered them to form a team. The group surrounded the practitioners and started to cruelly beat them. Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Fan Ying firmly resisted but was tortured by 12 prisoners until she passed out. Ms. Gong Suying, who later died from the torment, was beaten to the ground, sustained multiple injuries, and was unable to get up. Because practitioner Ms. Yu Bin refused to admit that she had committed any crime, Li Qi ordered eight prisoners to beat her for several hours, during which time four of her ribs were broken.

The inmates were merciless when beating practitioners. Besides slapping their faces, punching their temples, striking them with elbows, and giving them knee-strikes in sensitive places, they also used a folded belt to whip them and used hard plastic slippers and wooden sticks to beat them. Li Qi, Yin Dan, and Li Xia even ordered the roughnecks to pull off the practitioners' clothes and then beat them.

In October 2003, whenever these three guards were on duty, a different practitioner each night was taken to the dishwashing room in the still of the night, including Ms. Liu Zhongyi, Ms. Yu Bin, Ms. Tong Guoqun and others. It was a very dark room, its door and windows closed. The practitioners were beaten while their clothes were stripped off, and the guards cursed, "Do you still speak the truth?" The guards tried to force the practitioners to write a "Repentance Statement." Once, practitioner Ms. Jiang Xianfang was tightly tied with rope. As she was barely conscious from the pain and discomfort, the policewomen grabbed her hand and put her fingerprint on a prepared "Repentance Statement." Thus, they counted her as having been "transformed."

Practitioners who went on hunger strikes to protest the atrocities were usually force-fed. In October 2002, guards Li Qi and Yin Dan ordered Li Jiaqin and another prisoner to force-feed practitioner Ms. Liu Zhongyi. Their brutal method of prying her mouth open dislocated her jaw, which left her unable to close her mouth or to chew normally.

Stripping Practitioners, Stepping on Their Lower Abdomens, Sexual Assaults, and Force-Feeding with Water

Because the practitioners were not willing to read the materials that slandered Falun Gong and Teacher Li, on February 17, 2003, Li Qi, Li Xia, and Yin Dan ordered Chen Qi (from Xichang), Li Hong (from Chengdu), Deng Ailing (from Xichang), and three other prisoners to strip the clothes off practitioners Ms. Liu Zhongyi, Ms. Tao Yuqin, Ms. Peng Shiqun, Ms. Luo Meng, and Ms. Duan Wenlian. First, they beat each practitioner with a folded leather belt, hard plastic slippers, and wooden sticks. The practitioners were beaten to the floor and then dragged inside another room for more beatings. When the prisoners became tired, they randomly stepped on the practitioners' lower abdomens while wearing leather boots, and ceaselessly abused them. The abuse lasted for several hours. They continued to beat practitioners during the night. Even the people on the floor below were awakened by the noises.

The next day, prisoners Chen Qi and Deng Ailing colluded with other prisoners to strip practitioner Ms. Tong Guoqun and make her stand in one place about a foot from the wall. Chen and other prisoners, wearing leather boots, ran toward Ms. Tong from three meters away and then fiercely kicked her lower abdomen. They then punched her temples and chest until Ms. Tong could no longer bear it, but they forced her to keep standing. Next they stripped Ms. Luo Meng, in her 20s, and also cruelly beat her with the leather belt, shoes, and wooden sticks. Prisoners Li Hong, Chen Qi, and Zeng Guona (also called Zeng Guorong) then pulled Ms. Luo Meng inside a room and threw her on the rough concrete floor. They tried to force practitioners Ms. Huang Min and Ms. Huang Guoqun to write words that slander Falun Gong under Luo Meng's crotch and along her inner thighs. When Ms. Huang Min refused, she was also beaten to the ground until she could not move. Prisoners then grabbed Ms. Huang Min's hair and forced her mouth to touch Ms. Luo Meng's private parts. Prisoner Li Hong stuffed a dirty dishcloth into Ms. Luo Meng's mouth and used lewd language to insult her as she rubbed Ms. Luo Meng's hands over her own breasts. Li used her fingers to rape Ms. Luo and then beat and cursed her and poured cold water on her chest and private parts. That day, Ms. Luo suffered three sessions of beatings. Ms. Tao Yuqin also suffered beatings.

On the 19th, at the guard's insistence, the thugs tied Ms. Tao Yuqin's hair, thumbs, and little fingers together with thin nylon rope (supplied by the guards). They hung her up between the upper and lower beds, spread-eagle, with only her toes touching the ground, and then beat and cursed her. On the same day, practitioner Ms. Liu Zhongyi was also tortured.

Beginning on the 19th, Li Qi and other guards ordered thugs to begin force-feeding water to the steadfast practitioners. Anyone who refused to drink the water was tortured. Practitioners were made to drink a large cup of water every ten minutes but only allowed to use the toilet twice a day (once in the morning and once at night). When the practitioners wet their pants, they were not allowed to wash themselves. They were only allowed to wash every three months, and were given only half an hour to wash themselves and their clothes.

Confinement to Small Cells; Water Dungeons

After that, the guards locked up practitioners Ms. Luo Meng, Ms. Tao Yuqin, Ms. Yu Bin, Ms. Tong Guoqun, Ms. Jiang Xianfang, Ms. Liu Zhongyi, and others alone in small cells, while two of the criminal prisoners monitored each practitioner. The thugs forced the practitioners to stand ramrod straight, facing a wall, for 24 hours a day. The practitioners were beaten if they started to fall asleep. The sound of flesh hitting the wall, bodies being beaten, items crashing to the ground, rebukes from the thugs, and the practitioners' grieved screams resounded from the small cells. Guards Li Qi, Yin Dan, and Li Xia purposely didn't "patrol" the small cells on one side of the third floor and pretended they didn't know that atrocities were happening. However, every Friday afternoon, the inmate perpetrators gathered to share the methods they used to persecute practitioners. Some were rewarded according to their level of participation. Some prisoners' terms were reduced because they put forth a lot of effort to curse and beat practitioners, and they were given special foods to eat--guard Li Xia often bought nice food for them. The guards would physically punish any prisoners they discovered being relatively nice to practitioners.

Besides being locked up in small cells, some practitioners were left for a long time in a corner that was dark and dank. Water was splashed over the floor every day. Because the room couldn't hold deep water, it was used to deceive journalists who were investigating the prison. Practitioners were only given 100 grams of food every day. Practitioners Ms. Zhang Wenqing and Ms. Zhang Fengqing's hands and feet were cuffed for a long time, but they shouted "Falun Dafa is good," "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance is good," "Restore the innocence of Falun Gong," "Restore Teacher's good name," and other phrases every one or two days. Some prisoners would run to punch and kick the practitioners whenever they heard such righteous talk.

    Torment with Drugs and Poison

In order to achieve her goals, guard Li Qi not only used the tortures above but also poisoned practitioners using strong drugs to put them in a deathtrap.

On the morning of February 16, 2003, practitioner Ms. Liu Jingli was force-fed with a diuretic every hour, along with two cups of liquid each time. After a while, she needed to go to the toilet and became very uncomfortable, but she was not allowed to use the toilet. In the afternoon, she was force-fed every two hours with poison that damaged her central nervous system. Within several seconds, she couldn't move her fingers. Ms. Liu immediately asked the prisoner who was monitoring her what she had been given. The prisoner said, "Do not speak so irresponsibly. The cadre cared about you enough to give you water." On the other hand, this prisoner signaled the guards who were hiding in the room. They were testing the effects of the poison on Ms. Liu so they could use the same method to persecute other practitioners. However, with strong righteous belief, the medication did not harm Ms. Liu Jingli.

At midnight, because the medication did not affect Ms. Liu Jingli, after guards Li Qi and Kang Feng finished the night patrol, prisoner Cao Jiemei was ordered to beat Ms. Liu and force her to stand up straight. That night, Li Qi would not give up. After the 4 a.m. patrol went by, prisoner Cao Jiemei force-fed Ms. Liu a bowl of liquid that contained a nerve-damaging drug and a strong poison (provided by Li Qi) in front of another prisoner. Within minutes Ms. Liu Jingli felt intense pains in her abdomen and then vomited blood. Two hours later, she started hallucinating. With strong righteous belief,, Ms. Liu Jingli again broke through. The next morning, when she wiped her teeth with some tissue, the poison turned the paper green.

On February 19, 2003, because practitioners refused to read slanderous materials, Li Qi ordered prisoners to secretly poison the practitioners' drinking water. After practitioner Ms. Duan Wenlian was poisoned, she became mentally unbalanced and suffered a cruel beating from prisoners Li Hong, Chen Qi, and Deng Ailing. However, Li Xia and others alleged that her unstable behavior was caused by the practice and insinuated to other practitioners that they would suffer a similar fate if they didn't "transform."

What has been described is only the tip of the iceberg in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners detained at Zizhong Women's Forced Labor Camp. There are also many unrevealed activities including the sexual abuse of practitioners.

Li Kemei Suffers a Mental Collapse Due to Persecution at the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp

Ms. Li Kemei, from Yishui County, Shandong Province, began practicing Falun Gong three years ago to treat an illness. She regained her health quickly and has been healthy ever since. She was so grateful for being saved by practicing Falun Gong that she then clarified the truth about Falun Gong to her friends and relatives. For this, she was arrested and illegally sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp. She was imprisoned in the notorious Wangcun Forced Labor Camp, where after a year of extreme persecution she suffered a mental collapse.

After being released and returned home, with the help of her friends and relatives Li Kemei again began practicing the exercises and read Falun Gong books. Li Kemei soon regained her health. The miracles of Falun Gong again manifested in Li Kemei.

Below are the circumstances of Li Kemei's persecution:

Before practicing Falun Gong, Li Kemei suffered from all kinds of illness. Her physical pain was so unbearable that she had almost lost her desire to live. In winter 2002, her friends introduced her to Falun Gong and she began practicing. She then recovered her health very quickly.

When one family member practices Falun Gong, the whole family benefits. Li Kemei's son suffered from a large growth inside his throat, which disappeared miraculously after Li Kemei began practicing Falun Gong. Li Kemei was deeply moved by the miracles of Falun Gong.

In July 2004, Li Kemei was arrested while she was clarifying the truth in Xiaoyuling. She was brutally beaten by baton-wielding policemen in the Yuandongtou police station. She was then illegally imprisoned in Yishui County Detention Center. Li Kemei refused to tell her name and went on a hunger strike. On the seventh day of her hunger strike the prison guards dragged her to the infirmary where she was brutally force-fed. When the guards interrogated her, they punched and kicked her body and legs.

Soon after this, female practitioners Li Xiuying and Zhang Yufeng, from Huangshan County, were imprisoned in the same detention center. These three practitioners were forced to peel oranges all day long. They had to finish a big bamboo chest of oranges before they were allowed to sleep.

On August 17, 2004, the police from Yishui County transferred these three practitioners to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp, entering their names into the prison records as "anonymous."

As soon as Li Kemei entered the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp, she was subjected to brutal physical and mental torture. The guards ordered the inmates to force Li Kemei to sit on a tiny stool continuously for more than ten days and not to allow her to get off the stool. Because she was confined to such small stool for so long, her hips developed many bloody blisters and the pain was excruciating. At night as soon as Li Kemei dozed, the criminals pulled out the stool suddenly to make Li Kemei fall to the floor. Sometimes they dragged her to her feet by her ear to force her to stay awake. Once Li Kemei struck her face on the corner of a table as she fell, and the resulting gash bled profusely.

After Li Kemei could not endure the brutal torture any longer, she then allowed other people to write the three statements, on her behalf. Soon she realized that this was wrong, so she wrote a solemn declaration that all the statements she had signed were null and void. She was then persecuted even more severely.

The guards beat her mercilessly with fists and feet, trying to force her to curse Falun Gong. When this failed, the guards handcuffed her hanging from a bathroom window for eight days and eight nights. For the first three days the guards did not give her any food to eat. Even when she had to use the toilet her one hand was still kept handcuffed. She was released after hanging there for nine days. The guards then asked Li Kemei if she still wanted to practice. When Li replied, "Yes," then the guards dragged her to the floor by her hair and trampled her. A big lump of her hair was pulled out. During Li's nine-month imprisonment, the guards hung her up like this six times.

In winter, the guards did not allow Li to wear thicker clothes, and even purposely tried to freeze her, opening the windows so that snowflakes would swirl through the room. Li was only given three small buns to eat each day. She had to drink water to fill her stomach to try to quiet the hunger pangs.

When Li Kemei refused to cooperate with the forced labor camp, refusing to participate in roll call, the guards threw her to the floor and stepped on her, slapping her face. One night around ten o'clock, four or five guards came to kick and beat her head very brutally. After one year of persecution, Li Kemei had been tortured so badly that she looked like a skeleton, and she was mentally disoriented. The forced labor camp dared not bear the responsibility that Li might die there, so they ordered Li's family to take her home.

Li Kemei was a healthy person reduced to being an invalid by the persecution of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Luckily, under the good care of her family and friends and through doing the Falun Gong exercises and read Falun Gong books for two months, Li Kemei gradually regained her health. The miracles of Falun Gong were again demonstrated through her.

Faculty and Students at the China Three Gorges University Still Being Deceived

Falun Gong has been severely persecuted at the China Three Gorges University during the past few years. The school authorities have sent faculty and staff members to the provincial brainwashing center, and they have illegally arrested Falun Gong practitioners who went to the university to clarify the truth. They also spread lies to poison the students in the classrooms. There are slanderous video clips on the university website. These hooligans are also frantically trying to get students to join the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and pushing the so-called "Preserving the Advancement of Communist Party Ideology" campaign.

The China Three Gorges University was established in 2000 as a provincial university. It is categorized as a class II 4-year college. The university has more than 4,000 faculty, staff members, and nearly 30,000 students from around the country.

The following are some of the details of the persecution that has taken place at the university.

Since March 2005, the university has issued a series of directives regarding the work required for political propaganda. Some of them are directly related to the persecution of Falun Gong.

On the afternoon of March 30, 2005 there was a special meeting held on the fourth floor of the administration building. The participants included teachers from the "Marxist Theory" and "Moral Character" classes, student advisors, student organization members, officials from Student Affairs Offices and University Security. Yuan Hong and Cai Jun openly defamed Falun Gong in the meeting. In addition, the university also set up 24-hour surveillance on its Intranet. As a result, no one can access overseas websites from the university Intranet.

Starting in May this year, the university is requiring all students to take a mandatory class, "Fundamentals of Law." The class requires the students to write essays with the theme, "Advocate Science, Oppose the Evil Cult" to slander Falun Gong. The teacher said that there used to be ten topics to choose from, but now the Department of Education allows only this one topic.

A videotape of the staged Tiananmen self-immolation incident was played in the class. The students are being taught that Liu Chunling was burned to death instead of beaten to death. In order to cover up the scenes showing Wang Jindong's hair and the bottle between his legs not being damaged, even though he himself was on fire and his clothes were burned, the images of Wang's hair and the bottle are blurred. They are continuing to poison the students' minds.

In front of the university library, there are many signs promoting the "Communist Party Member Grassland." Many pictures of Communist Party leaders are hanging in the hallways of the classroom buildings. There are also detailed preparation documents for joining the party. Many colleges have set up classes on the CCP and are pushing students to join the party. There are more than 2,000 CCP members among the university students, approximately 10% of the student body, a very high percentage compared to other universities.

The university officials are also actively involved in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Zhou Qiang, a Chemistry and Life Sciences teacher, is a firm believer in Falun Gong and has withdrawn from the CCP. On June 1, 2005, Yichang police, along with university security personnel, took him to a brainwashing center. On June 15, a practitioner from Gezhouba named He Jinyan was arrested and taken to a police station for clarifying the truth at the university.

Because there are few people here who know the truth, we are asking overseas practitioners to help clarify the truth via telephone and mail.

Mr. Su Guohua Dies from Effects of Persecution in 2003 in Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province

Mr. Su Guohua, 73, lived in Liujiayuan Village, Yihezhuang Township, Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province. The Metropolitan Public Security Bureau's First Division, which is the 610 Office, and the local Judicial Department arrested him many times. The authorities once handcuffed Mr. Su to a big tree and then shocked him with electric batons. Because of the torture, the long-term persecution and the constant harassment, Mr. Su left this world in December 2003.

Before practicing Falun Gong, Mr. Su had had many illnesses, such as high blood pressure, coronary disease, diabetes, tracheitis, asthma, gastritis, and arthritis. He needed to go to the hospital all the time and thought that he would need to take medication for the rest of his life. None of his illnesses could be cured, and he had to walk using crutches. He was seriously ill for so long that he had given up hope.

In the fall of 1995, Mr. Su began practicing Falun Gong. After practicing for half a year, he experienced major improvement in both mind and body. All of his illnesses miraculously disappeared. He no longer needed crutches and could even ride a bicycle. He rode it to neighboring villages to promote Falun Gong. Mr. Su became energetic again and could even help his son by doing some farm work.

Between 1997 and 1999, Mr. Su promoted Falun Gong in Zhuozhou City. He also did a lot of the preparation in organizing experience-sharing conferences. His hard work enabled many people to start practicing Falun Gong. The supply of Falun Gong books and videos never met the demand, so Mr. Su rode his bike to Beijing to purchase these Falun Gong material. He always went and returned on the same day despite being elderly and despite the bad weather. When Mr. Su returned in the evening, he would deliver Falun Gong books and videos to new practitioners' homes. He always recited Lunyu when riding his bike. When others asked if he ever felt tired, he always answered, "Falun Gong saved my life. Teacher gave me the chance to devote myself to Falun Gong. A little tiredness is nothing. To die for it is worthy." Mr. Su quietly promoted Falun Gong every day for years.

In July of 1999, the Chinese Communist regime launched its persecution of Falun Gong. To validate Falun Gong, Mr. Su went to appeal and clarify the facts in Beijing. The 610 officials arrested Mr. Su many times. They beat and cursed him, handcuffed him to a big tree, used electric batons to shock him, extorted money from him, and fined him. Mr. Su always refused to sign any repentance statement, so the authorities constantly harassed him. The vicious torture and persecution took Mr. Su's life in December 2003.
