  • Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Chen Guoxiang Dies as a Result of Persecution

Mr. Chen Guoxiang was an engineer at the Wutonghua Lead-Zinc Mine in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The persecutors detained him twice in Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp in Bameng City. Because of suffering torture in the labor camp, Mr. Chen became emaciated, and developed excessive fluid accumulation around the heart, in the lungs and abdomen. He died on December 19, 2005.

Mr. Chen Guoxiang was 55 years old. He started to practice Falun Gong in 1998. He was a key technical person at his work unit, worked very hard and got along very well with his colleagues. His supervisor once said that if the work unit could only keep one employee, that person would be Mr. Chen. In November 1999, Mr. Chen went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and clarify the truth, and was detained by the local police for a month.

On June 24, 2000, Mr. Chen's entire family was arrested by local police. In August 2000, his wife was sentenced to 2 years of forced labor. After being detained illegally for 14 months, and Mr. Chen and his son were sentenced to 3 years of forced labor in August 2001. Because he refused to renounce Falun Gong, the persecutors tortured Mr. Chen with methods such as sleep deprivation and "Tying the Ropes." Mr. Chen went on hunger strike many times and never signed anything that was against Falun Gong.

In mid-April 2003, when Mr. Chen and his son were released from the labor camp, the head of the Chifeng City 610 Office Yang and his associates directly sent them to Chifeng City Brainwashing Center. The brainwashing center was forced to close because of the SARS breakout, so the father and son were detained there for 4 days before being released. However, staff from Mr. Chen's work unit continued to monitor him.

On June 25, 2003, Li Jinghai and his associates from the Wengniute National Security Group arrested Mr. Chen at work and took him to a brainwashing center. He was tortured for 17 days and nights, yet Mr. Chen did not give in to the evil. At the time, several collaborators took turns in trying to brainwash him (through talking to him continuously). They also forced him to squat for long periods of time and deprived him of sleep. Yang Chunyue, head of Chifeng City 610 Office threatened that "we will sentence him to forced labor if he refuses to reform." Persecutors in the 610 Office also extorted 4,000 yuan from Chen's work unit.

On July 17, 2003, Mr. Chen was arrested again and detained in Wengniute Detention Center. In January 2004, he was secretly transferred to Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp for a 3-year term. During this period, his family members did not know his whereabouts, although they asked around. They finally heard in January 2005 that Mr. Chen was detained in Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp.

During a meeting at the labor camp where much slanderous discussions went on, Mr. Chen and two other practitioners bravely stepped forward to refute the lies. They shouted loudly, "Falun Dafa is good." The three practitioners were forced to kneel until the end of the meeting. After that, they were put into small cells. Guard Zhong Zhiyuan said to Mr. Chen while shocking his sole with an electric baton, "I will torture you for three years if you don't reform!" That time, Mr. Chen was tortured mentally and physically for 10 days.

On February 24, 2005, Mr. Chen's family members received a call from the head of the local 610 Office, Ba Te, who asked them to immediately come and pick up Mr. Chen at the Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp. The family members were not allowed into Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp until March 6, 2005. When they finally saw Mr. Chen on March 7, 2005 in the Wuyuan County Hospital, Mr. Chen was emaciated because of the torture, and very pale. He appeared unsteady on his feet and as if he was going to fall down at any time when walking. Doctors in the hospital did not see the family members, nor were they shown the diagnosis and medical results. According to Mr. Chen, he had been there for over 10 days. There was excessive fluid built up in his chest cavity. The doctors had siphoned out about 2 liters of fluid from an opening in his lower back.

On the discharge papers (released on bail for medical treatment), it said that Mr. Chen suffered from severe heart, lung, and liver illnesses. Before the severe symptoms appeared, Mr. Chen felt fatigued and as if being suffocated. He also coughed day and night. After his diagnosis, doctors in the hospital told the persecutors in the labor camp that Mr. Chen's condition was very serious and he would have to stay in the hospital. Despite his condition, two guards monitored him daily. At night, he was handcuffed to the bed. A guard named Zhao Naidong took a pen and some paper to Mr. Chen's bed and tried to force him to write the Three Statements. When Mr. Chen firmly refused him, the guard left in anger.

The forced labor camp asked Mr. Chen's family members for 1,700 yuan for medical expenses. Yet after several years of persecution, the family members simply could not afford the amount. After two guards signed a guarantee (that the family members will return the money) and the family members submitted 280 yuan, Mr. Chen was finally released.

After Mr. Chen returned home, local police and members of 610 Office still went to his home and harassed him. To avoid harassment, he left home and looked for medical treatment. The local police looked for him everywhere and spread rumors that Mr. Chen had run away. Mr. Chen, who was already in serious condition as a result of the physical and mental torture, was forced to live a destitute homeless life for over 9 months until he passed away on December 19, 2005.

I Cannot Keep Silent After Learning of the Rape in Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province

I am a resident of Zhuozhou City. I learned about the rape that took place at the Dongchengfang Police Department. I received phone calls from overseas. He Xuejian, a man wearing a police uniform, raped two women Falun Gong practitioners. Liu Jizhi, one of the victims, is of similar age as He Xuejian's mother. He Xuejian's hideous act reminds me of Ren Binghui, the Party secretary for Political and Judiciary Committee in Yihezhuang Township in Zhuozhou City.

On October 1, 2000, five Falun Gong practitioners were illegally arrested in Beijing for appealing and were taken to the Yihezhuang Township government and held in the conference room. These five practitioners are Mr. Wang Gang in his 30s, Mr. Zhang Muo in his late 20s, Zhang Muo's mother in her 60s, Ms. Zang Cuiqing in her late 30s, and Ms. Chen Lingmei around 50 years of age.

A loudspeaker installed in the conference room blasted propaganda in a shrill and deafening voice to prevent the practitioners from sleeping, as the captors attempted to destroy the practitioners' will. It said that their fates would be determined on October 8.

It was cold in October. These practitioners were held for seven days. The phone rang on the morning of October 8 at the party secretary's office, and the government issued an order stating, "Treat [the Falun Gong practitioners] as counterrevolutionaries. If they are beaten to death, it will be counted as suicide." After receiving this order, Ren Binghui, the Party secretary of Political and Judiciary Committee, Ma Shuhai, the township Party secretary, Bai Jinghua, the township head, and several deputy township heads started torturing the practitioners. The captors divided themselves into groups. They dragged the practitioners out, handcuffed them and hung them up in a bike-park shack for three days. They also didn't allow the practitioners to eat or to sleep.

At noon on October 12, Han Zhanshan, the Zhuozhou City Political and Judiciary Committee secretary, oversaw the persecution being carried out. They first held a meeting at the township government, after which Han Zhanshan asked each of the five practitioners, "Will you still practice Falun Gong?" The practitioners firmly answered, "Yes!" With a wave of his hand, Han Zhanshan ordered the others, including Ren Binghui and Ma Shuhai, to start beating the practitioners. Some people sympathized with Falun Gong and didn't want to beat the practitioners, so they left. Those who stayed followed Han's instructions.

The first practitioner to be beaten was Zhang Muo, a retired soldier. The room was very crowded. The thugs dragged Zhang Muo into the courtyard and whipped him from head to toe with sticks and a whip made of three electric cords twisted together. Zhang Muo screamed in pain but they refused to stop. Zhang Muo's mother almost fainted because she couldn't bear watching her son being tortured. The thugs called You Hong from Yihezhuang Township Clinic over and told him, "Give her a shot." Zhang Muo's mother said, "I'm not sick! I'm not getting any shots!" Ren Binghui said in a menacing voice, "Oh really? Let's see if you really don't take any drugs or shots!" He grabbed the syringe from You Hong, pulled down the old woman's pants and jabbed her with the syringe. It's unknown what kind of drug was in the syringe.

Zang Cuiqing was the second practitioner to be tortured. They let her down from the hanging position in the shack and pushed her to the ground. Ren Binghui said, "It doesn't hurt if we beat her with her clothes on!" He started to remove Zang Cuiqing's clothes. He pulled her coat down to her shoulder, and then he pulled her pants down to her ankles. Zang Cuiqing was then left in underpants. Ma Shuhai, the township Party secretary, led a few township heads to start beating Zang Cuiqing. They used the same instruments that were used to beat Zhang Muo. Sometime later Ren Binghui said, "This whip doesn't hurt her; let's break it in three, because the thinner it is, the more it hurts!" They whipped her until she lost consciousness. Then they poured cold water over her. When she came to, they hung her up by her handcuffs.

After Zang Cuiqing was hung up, they still had her pants around her ankles, and this was more obvious with her being hung up. Everyone who was coming to work could see this. They hung her up for a long time. Ren Binghui thought that he had achieved his goal, so he pulled Zang Cuiqing's pants up. Bai Jinghua, a township head, stopped Ren Binghui and said, "Don't pull it up for her." As he said this, he violently kicked Zang Cuiqing's shins, making Zang Cuiqing's body sway back and forth in the air. Ren Binghui was encouraged by the violence and asked Zang Cuiqing, "Will you still practice?" She answered, "Yes I will!" He ordered people to bring several glasses of water and forced them into Zang Cuiqing's mouth. Ren Binghui said, "Then relieve yourself in your own pants!" He ordered people to bring a basin of cold water. He held Zang Cuiqing's collar and poured all of the cold water down her neck. She was soaked and the water dripped from her feet. She shivered and trembled.

Chen Lingmei was the third practitioner who was beaten. Su Guohua was the fourth practitioner, and Wang Gang was the last practitioner who was beaten and tortured.

All of the violence took place under the supervision of a Zhuozhou City government head and was led by the township Party secretary. All of these crimes were committed by Communist Party members.

Why did this happen? Why did these government officials personally carry out this gross abuse under the persecution? Are they devoid of human nature? I think they are afraid. They are a cog in the Communist Party machine; a pawn in Jiang's persecution of Falun Gong. They feared losing power, and they feared losing the privileges only Party officials have, because the five practitioners went to Beijing to appeal for justice. They trample on conscience and justice when it comes to personal interests.

What was Ren Binghui, the Political and Judiciary Party secretary, thinking when he stripped off Zang Cuiqing's clothes in front of everyone? I can only speculate that he was doing it to please Han Zhanshan and beg forgiveness for letting the practitioners go to Beijing to appeal.

Ren Binghui's actions helps us better understand He Xuejian's rape of two female Falun Gong practitioners. First, the Communist Party is corrupt and villainous, and as Ren Binghui's example demonstrates, we know what kind of person Song Xiaobin is [Song Xiaobin is a superior of He Xuejian]. Ren Binghui acted with sadistic violence in front of his superior Han Zhanshan, just as He Xuejian acted to please Song Xiaobin.

He Xuejian's crime is not an isolated incident. If someone joins the Chinese Communist Party, the Party will instill him with wicked theories that resemble psychological time bombs. If we don't understand that the Communist Party is an evil organization, we won't be able to explain the sinister crimes that take place one after another in China.

I heard that many Falun Gong practitioners went to Beijing to appeal in the second half of 2000 in response to Jiang Zemin's irrational persecution of Falun Gong. Some practitioners were transferred to Zhuozhou City and they were held at Group 5 of the Zhuozhou City Police Department Criminal Police Division. The wardens at Group 5 savagely tortured female practitioners and shocked the practitioners' private parts and other sensitive body parts with electric batons. I hope that practitioners who suffered such abuse will step forward and expose the truth.

Two Elderly Ladies Tortured in Wanjia Forced Labor Camp in Harbin City

Prison guards in the notorious Wanjia Forced Labor Camp in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, are still torturing Falun Gong practitioners, even the elderly ones. In particular, guards Yao Fuchang (male), Yu Fangli (female), Guan Jie (gender unknown) and Wu Baoyun (female) are guilty of this conduct.

Ms. Meng Qingying, 67, is a retired teacher from the Harbin City 28th Middle School. She is detained in Wanjia Labor Camp just because she practices Falun Gong. On the morning of December 2, 2005, prison guard Guan Jie berated Ms. Meng because she did not memorize the prison rules well. Later, guard Yao Fuchang took her to the office, where guard Yu Fangli shouted at her loudly. After 8 a.m., others heard her screaming in another small, dark cell. Around 10 a.m., guard Yu Fangli ordered the inmate cell leader to get a change of clothes for Ms. Meng. At lunchtime, Ms. Meng's soiled clothes were found thrown in the garbage. Ms. Meng had been tortured on the iron chair for three whole days, until December 5. Her lower body was covered with purple black bruises, her legs and feet were swollen, and her arms and hands were numb.

Ms. Chen Guilan, 59, was an employee of the Hulan District Power Plant in Harbin City. She is also in Wanjia Labor Camp because she practices Falun Gong. Prison guards also took her into the small, dark cell to torture her. They beat her while she was hanging up and while she was sitting on the iron chair. Her lower body was covered with dark bruises.

The guards usually use electric batons to shock practitioners on their faces, hands, and elsewhere. Now they are shocking practitioners predominantly on their lower bodies so that others cannot easily detect the wounds, which are covered by the practitioners' clothes.

Wanjia Forced Labor Camp guards intentionally cause practitioners mental and physical pain. They laugh right after beating practitioners.

Driven by Profit, Xuchang Forced Labor Camp Staff Torture Falun Gong Practitioners

Xuchang Forced Labor Camp, the No. 3 force labor camp in Henan province, can get 25,000 yuan from the CCP regime for each Falun Gong practitioner that they turn against Falun Gong. Driven by profit, the forced labor camp authorities cruelly torture Falun Gong practitioners in order to reach that goal. Below is what I have seen and experienced in the No. 3 forced labor camp.

Every Falun Gong practitioner taken to Xuchang Forced Labor Camp is forced to write the "three letters" (letter of guarantee, letter renouncing Falun Gong, and letter of repentance). Refusal will result in beatings, electric shock, being hung up, or an increased work quota.

Li Jinke, a Falun Gong practitioner from Nanyang City, Henan Province, who refused to write the "three letters," was beaten nearly to death. In May 2005, Mr. Li shouted, "Falun Dafa is good!" He was subsequently beaten into unconsciousness by a guard team headed by Zhao Zhimin.

Similarly, when Mr. Tang Keyu shouted, "Falun Dafa is good" in a 2004 labor camp meeting, he was immediately taken to a small cell. He was then beaten by a guard wielding a rubber stick, and his mouth was stuffed with a dirty cloth. In addition, his term was extended by 10 months.

Qi County's Falun Gong practitioner Cui Shuyong was sentenced to two years of forced labor for posting truth clarification materials. The guard head Zhao Zhimin, CCP director Shen Jianwei and guard Meng Guanglu tried to force him to write the "three letters," but Mr. Cui refused to write them. Those three guards thus tied him up and beat him for a long time. As a result, two ropes and two rubber sticks were broken, and Mr. Cui was covered with bruises. Guard Shen Jianwei beat Mr. Cui in the face with a leather shoe, causing the shape of his face to become distorted. On May 5, 2005, Mr. Cui was badly beaten by Shen Jianwei again. His face was covered with bruises and blood, and after the beating he was forced to stand out in the rain.

It was later reported that writing the "three letters" was considered by the CCP to be successful "transformation", and the camp authorities can get 25,000 yuan from the CCP for each transformed Falun Gong practitioner. So in order to obtain the "three letters," the guards used every means at their disposal to torture practitioners.

Severe physical abuse of Falun Gong practitioners is common in Xuchang Forced Labor Camp. Mr. Zheng Jianmin from Pingdingshan City, who was arrested and taken to Xuchang Forced Labor Camp in March 2005 and refused to write the "three letters", was beaten by guard Shi Baolong, Shen Jianwei and Meng Guanglu several times.

Detainees in the Xuchang Forced Labor Camp are forced to work 15 to 16 hours a day, their workday often not ending until midnight. According to regulations, each labor camp detainee is entitled to get 6 yuan for his labor every month, but the guards pocket this money for themselves.

Police in Detention Center Shout: "The Communist Party Will Not Allow You To Be Good People"

I practice Falun Gong and believe in "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance." One day in December 2000, I was illegally arrested and sentenced to four years in prison for distributing truth clarification materials. During this imprisonment I suffered severe torture. What follows are just a few examples of this persecution.

On the evening of December 24, 2000, several police officers dragged me to the security office of Miyi County Police Department, Sichuan Province. They tried to force me to admit to the crimes they had accused me of. Policemen Xiang Jinfa and Zhou Lin beat me up and assailed me. "It is not violating the law if we beat you to death," they said. "We are backed up by the Communist Party and Jiang Zemin." They handcuffed me in a hallway for two days straight without giving me food or water. They turned a fan on me even though it was wintertime. After two days of torture they sent me to the detention center.

On Chinese New Year director Wu, Zhu Chenglong, Liu Qichao, and others ordered several of us practitioners to recite the rules of the detention center. When we refused, they forced us to stand facing the wall. Liu Qichao beat us with bamboo sticks while cursing at us, "You go ahead and steal, gamble and commit other crimes. But don't you ever practice Falun Gong or be good people. The Communist Party will not allow you to practice or to be good people."

We had to stand from New Year's Day until the fifteenth. We would be beaten with electric batons if we moved. The police also put several of us into solitary confinement. For over one year in the detention center they did not allow us to practice the exercises. We could be interrogated and insulted at any time. As a result of the torture I was unable to eat or sleep. My heart disease recurred. In addition, they sentenced me to four years in prison.

In January of 2001, the police sent me to the Sichuan Province Women's Prison, where I was again severely tortured. The day after I arrived the head of the prison, Wang Fang, ordered us to recite the prison rules and other various rules they had created for practitioners such as no practicing the exercises, no talking among practitioners, and no mentioning Falun Gong. I said to her, "We are good people. We did not violate any law." She said, "What is a good person? If the Communist Party says you are bad people, then you are bad people. Since you have been sent here, you are bad people no matter whether you are good or bad."

Each day, two or three criminal inmates watched us to prevent us from talking to anyone. Because we firmly persisted in our belief, the police punished the criminal inmates from both our cell and the area by not letting them sleep. These inmates had to do hard labor from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. except during their three mealtimes. The administration's goal was to incite hatred toward us so that the criminals would insult and beat us.

The police also carried out brainwashing following hard labor. They exhausted all means to torture practitioners, including brainwashing, putting them into solitary confinement, isolation, beatings, insults, handcuffing, and forced standing.

Tangshan Locomotive & Rolling Stock Works Persecutes Falun Gong Practitioners

In early January 2006, Tangshan Locomotive & Rolling Stock works was going to recruit a number of electricians and welders from the factory to send to Siemens, in Germany, for further training. One of the selection criteria was that the candidate must not be a Falun Gong practitioner. Also, the head of the infamous 610 Office had to sign the application form. This is an act committed by some individuals in the factory who have chosen to follow Jiang Zemin and the Chinese Communist Party's policy to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

It is doubtful first, that Siemens would accept such criteria from its Chinese business partner as it clearly violates human rights; and second, it is doubtful that the terms of the cooperation agreement between the two partners would restrict Falun Gong practitioners from this factory from entering Siemens.

Since the nationwide persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20,1999, the leaders of this factory have directly participated in the persecution of its employees who practice Falun Gong, whether in active service or retired. These leaders have coerced Falun Gong practitioners to write "Guarantee Statements," forced them to turn over their Falun Gong books, ordered them to work overtime during holidays or sensitive days and even refused to let them go home after work for several days. The only purpose of doing this was to compel them to give up their practice. For the steadfast practitioners who refuse to give up their belief, these leaders have taken measures such as fining them, not paying them, and sending them to brainwashing and detention. These leaders have also assisted policemen in arresting practitioners in the factory. Practitioner Wang Zhiling was arrested twice at the worksite and sentenced to three years in prison. Wang is now detained at Shijiazhuang Labor Camp.

Over the past few years, according to incomplete statistics, three practitioners have been imprisoned, over a dozen have been sent to labor camps or brainwashing centers, and many more have been fined or given no pay at all. However, the persecution has not weakened practitioners' steadfast belief in Truth, Compassion and Forbearance; rather their belief has become stronger.

With the assistance of practitioners' continuous truth clarification over the past few years, a lot of people in the factory have learned the facts. Some people talk about it in private while others openly condemn the persecution. Fewer people are involved in the persecution now and more people have come to know about Falun Gong.

A Falun Gong Practitioner's Personal Experience of Persecution at the Shibalihe Forced Labor Camp in Henan Province

I once had a wonderful family. When I was little I was weak and I suffered many ailments. I had congenital heart disease, severe skin disorders, etc. I endured unspeakable pain and torments caused by illness. In 1998 I started practicing Falun Gong after friends introduced me to it. All my ailments miraculously healed within one month after I started the practice. I was immensely grateful to Teacher, who gave me my second life.

No one ever expected that out of jealousy former Chinese Communist Party head Jiang Zemin would become outraged by Falun Gong's popularity, with more than one hundred million people starting their path of the practice by adhering to the principles of "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance." He mobilized the entire nation's resource to persecute the kind and gentle Falun Gong practitioners. Charges of murder and mental illness were fabricated, framing Falun Gong, and the contents of Zhuan Falun were falsified, and its founder vilified.

Seeing all this I cried. Was I wrong by following the principles of "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance" to be a good person? I knew Falun Gong and it was never like what the television, newspaper purported, and all fellow practitioners were honest, kind and cordial with people. They were never like what the Chinese Communist propaganda claimed.

I wanted to seek justice for my Teacher and Falun Gong. On July 20, 1999, when the persecution began, I started the difficult journey to appeal for Falun Gong. I went to appeal four times between July 20, 1999 and July 20, 2000. I was detained, fined, extorted, threatened and intimidated. My salary was suspended at work, yet they forced me to continue work on endless chores without pay. During the detention at my workplace I nearly lost my life due to gas poisoning. My employer and the 610 Office tried to force me to sign a repentance statement. I was tortured until my chin swelled to the point that I could not even open my mouth to eat. They sent the factory doctor to forcibly inject me with drugs, but I refused. They only let me go home because they were afraid that I might die at the workplace. I continued to study the Fa and practice the exercises at home. With Teacher kindly watching over me and my mother meticulously taking care of me, my physically condition improved day by day. As soon as I could drink some porridge the 610 Office and work unit people came to harass me again, coerce my elderly parents, husband and young child. One time Wu Zibao, a deputy from the 610 Office, Yu Xinfang, and my workplace union president went through my neighbor's house, went onto the flat roof of my house, then kicked open the side door of my house to get in, and tried to force me to sign the repentance statement.

Without a single day of peace at home, I was forced to go to Beijing for the fourth time to appeal for Falun Gong. I was detained after I unfurled my banner at Tiananmen Square on July 20, 2000, and then I was detained at the Changping Detention Center. I was beaten by the police because I refused to divulge my name. I went on hunger strike to protest the inhuman treatment. They sent me and other Falun Gong practitioners to the mental hospital. They tied my four limbs like a starfish on the bed, and started force-feeding me. They even charged 50 yuan for each "forced feeding torture." After 19 days of tortures like this, the city's 610 Office sentenced me to two years in a forced labor camp, charging me with "disturbing social order." I was sent to the Shibalihe Forced Labor Camp in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province.

At Shibalihe Labor Camp, I suffered endless mental and physical tortures. I was forced to do many laborious jobs, and was supervised by inmates. They tried to force me to do the "prison physical exercise" but I refused. I started doing Falun Gong exercises. The labor camp guards handcuffed me and took me to the activity room. Several guards held me down, and they beat me, kicked me, and dragged me by my hair, until one of my legs became limp and I could not walk. Even so, they still forced me to do work. On October 1, 2001, the Provincial 610 Office, Bureau of Labor Reeducation Administration, and the Department of Justice started a new round of tortures on all resolute Falun Gong practitioners under the guise of inspection. The methods used included tortures such as electric shock, and roping. They locked me into a room, and several guards took turns tying the rope, including the camp director Wu Hongru, who personally tied me. They hung me up by my handcuffed wrists for more than 24 hours, resulting in my inability to take care of myself for a very long time. They still forced me to do the labor. When my husband brought my 9 year-old son to visit me at the labor camp, camp authorities refused the visit, telling my husband that I refused to be "transformed." My son held on to the iron door and cried, "Dad, I want to see my mother, I want to see my mother. If they do not allow us to see her in the morning, let us wait until in the afternoon." My husband shook his head. He was very distraught, but maintained his composure, thinking about the young child. They could not do anything but go home (this was what my husband later wrote in a letter to me). My husband could no longer endure the torments, both mental and physical, and filed for divorce. A once wonderful family was broken up by the evil.

Even though my term expired on August 15, 2002, the labor camp refused to release me but added another seven months. After the seven month extension, they still refused to release me, and the city's 610 Office sent me to the party school for continued brainwashing and torture. They forced me to listen to and watch videos defaming and vilifying Teacher and Falun Gong, and forced me to write a repentance statement and slander Teacher and Falun Gong. I refused to watch the videos. In order to escape from the mental torture, I jumped from the second floor window at midnight on the second day. I broke my right foot and crawled my way out of the evil's den. Later, the 610 Office deputy Wu Zibao brought his men, and forced my elderly father to take them to every relative's house to coerce and threaten them, and monitor their telephones. I became homeless and wondered around. My mother could not endure such an assault and confrontation, and died painfully a short while after.

My Mother's Difficulties Obtaining a Passport in China

Since July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party's persecution has been rampant. Falun Gong practitioners and their family members phones are tapped, and they're not allowed to move around as they wish. Those who've stood up for Falun Gong have also been harassed, threatened and oppressed -- even the lawyers. Chinese Falun Gong practitioners aren't allowed to travel and visit their relatives overseas. These people's passports are never approved. My mother, Ms. Bao Xuezhen, is one example.

My mother started to practice Falun Gong in 1995. After July 20, 1999 she began to clarify the truth, but then she was persecuted mercilessly. On the evening of June 1, 2001 the police in Changning District, Shanghai City detained her for "participating in Falun Gong activities" at her work place--the 4th Branch of the Zhongxing Corporation in Shanghai. They took her to the detention center in Changning District. On the same evening, they searched our house and confiscated many precious Falun Gong books, materials, banners, and photos. The police officers even coerced my father and I into giving them the rest of the materials. They intimidated me and asked me to turn on my computer so that they could check the hard drive. The same night they again invaded my home, and took my scanner, my printer, and the computer I used for studying.

For more than one year while my mother was detained, no other relatives were allowed to visit her. On February 26, 2002 my mother was sentenced three and a half years. Since June she has been imprisoned in Shanghai City's Women Prison.

My mother was subjected to inhuman torture at both the detention center and the prison. She told me that she was regularly insulted and bullied by the other female prisoners. She was forced to watch propaganda video's defaming Falun Gong. She wasn't allowed to take showers or sleep, and she was forced to work a lot. She was tormented to the breaking point. Due to the deception and threats of the police officers, she was "reformed" against her principles. In 2004, my mother was released. Although she was finally out of that ruthless environment, she still didn't have her personal freedom.

After she was discharged from the prison, my mother started the passport application process in February of 2005 so she could come and visit me overseas. Ten months have passed and she still hasn't gotten her passport. The authorities in question have offered no official reason for their failure to provide her with her passport.

Below is the chronology of the difficult application process and the responses my mother received from different departments.

On February 22, 2005 she formally submitted her passport application to Entry and Exit Control. On March 3, she received the response: "Not Approved." The reason she was given was they considered her a threat to national security and the national interest, and denied her request under Article 8, section 5 of their guidelines. She asked, "How could I harm our country as an ordinary citizen? How about those officials who take money abroad? Don't they harm our country? She received no answer from the officials. They also said the police department hadn't approved her request. She found the police officer that she was told had denied her, but he said he had nothing to do with it. He told her he would look into it for her.

On March 10 the police officer said he was waiting for a reply.

On April 20 the police officer said he was still waiting for a reply. (No reply)

On May 10, my mother went to Entry and Exit Control again. They said, "We don't know you. Once the Residence Office approves your application, we will give you your passport. She went and asked the police officer again about the police rejection of her application. He said, "I'm only a police officer, I have no authority in this matter. I've asked my superiors about this several times, but I haven't been able to solve your problem. I'll ask for you again."

On May 11, my mother called Changning District Police Department. They said when they found out, they would call her. (No answer so far)

On May 16, she mailed the local political and judiciary committee secretary Liu Yungeng. (No answer)

On June 9, she called the city Women's Association. They said they were helpless where Falun Gong was concerned.

On June 14, she went to the city Appeals Office. They said they would give her an answer within 15 days. (No answer)

On July 7, she went to the police department again. Director Lu of the police station met her. He said, "I don't have the power to decide. We will ask our superiors and then reply to you. (No answer)

On August 4, she waited again (No answer)

On August 19, she registered (no. 1041) at the Shanghai City Police Department's open appeals event.

On August 24, she was asked to contact Changning District Police Department. Officials there told her, "We will give you an answer in 15 days." (No answer so far)

On September 25, she wrote city government officials Chen Liangyu, Han Zheng, Liu Yungeng, and Gong Xueping separately. Only Gong Xueping replied, and claimed that the city police department was in charge of the case.

My mother has continued asking officials for an explanation. She hopes she can bring the truth to more people who are deceived.

An ordinary citizen merely wants to visit her child, but can't get a passport or an official explanation as to why she has not been issued one for more than 10 months. She was deprived of her personal freedom and civil rights.

The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp in Shandong Province

[Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the minghui.ca website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).]

Below are a few recent cases of persecution at the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp in Shandong Province.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chu Qinghua refused to give up his belief. The guards and collaborators tortured him on a daily basis and deprived him of sleep. They often beat and abused him physically and verbally, including shocking him with electric batons and striking him with chairs. In July or August 2005, Chu Qinghua jumped from the second floor to protest the persecution and is now in critical condition. [Note: China's persecution of Falun Gong is vicious and brutal; still, it is wrong for a Falun Gong practitioner to deliberately injure his own body as a way of protest, as this directly violates Falun Gong's  principles. Only truly righteous thoughts and actions will prevail over and disintegrate the persecution.]

One day in December 2005, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhao Kegui wrote a letter to his daughter from the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp. Because the letter contained the words, "Falun Dafa is great" the guards handcuffed Zhao Kegui to the head of a bed and tortured him.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen An-ai from Juancheng County was illegally arrested and sent to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp. His daughter Chen Mingyue is left at home alone.
