  • Ms. Zhao Tingyun from Xinxiang City, Henan Province Tortured to Death on Ninth Day in Police Custody

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Tingyun from Xinxiang City, Henan Province died on the ninth day of being in police custody. On January 6, 2006, Zhao Tingyun went to the home of practitioner Li Beiping near the Hongqi Hospital in Xinxiang City. Police officers who were staking out Li Beiping's home illegally arrested Ms. Zhao and put her in custody. She held a hunger strike to protest the persecution and was savagely force-fed. She died on the ninth day of detention. The police reported that Ms. Zhao died around 5:00 a.m. on January 15.

Zhao Tingyun was born in 1951 and had worked at the Xinxiang City Bus Factory but was laid off and lived at the factory family dormitory. She started practicing Falun Gong in January 1998 and was detained several times after the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999.

On November 7, 2002, Zhao Tingyun was arrested by local police on the way to deliver food to her husband at work. She was incarcerated at the Xinxiang City Detention Center. The police searched her and took the keys to her home from her. They ransacked her home and took her son's computer, which was bought while he was studying at a university. They also took some Falun Gong materials and Falun Gong books. Political heads Chen, Liu Desheng and Qin, a hired person, were the ones who ransacked her home. Zhao Tingyun and other Falun Gong practitioners held at the Xinxiang Detention Center went on group hunger strike for 26 days to protest the persecution. They were force-fed with saturated saline solution.

During the Chinese New Year on February 4, 2005, Zhao Tingyun and her family went to their hometown for the celebration. They clarified the truth about Falun Gong on their way and were reported to the police. Officers from the Nanhuan Police Department in Xinxiang City arrested and body-searched them.

Around 5:00 p.m. on January 6, agents from the Xinxiang City 610 Office, from the Hongqi Police Department and from the Xidajie Police Department broke into the home of practitioner Li Beiping. They arrested Li Beiping and her nanny Pan Xuehui and arrested Zhou Qing outside Li Beipings' home. They took money and many other items. At the same time, officials from the Weibei Police Department in the Weibin District arrested practitioners Huang Zhiqiang and his wife Li Xiurong, also from Xinxiang City, from their home.

Right now, Li Beiping, Huang Zhiqiang, Li Xiurong and other practitioners are being held at the Xinxiang City Custody Center.

Ms. Song Yanqun's Life is in Danger at the Changchun Heizuizi Female Prison

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Song Yanqun, 34, has been persecuted in the Changchun City Heizuizi Female Prison (also called Jilin Province Female Prison) for two years. Now she weighs only around 60 lbs and her life is in danger. She was sent to the prison hospital for intravenous injection. At the same time, her health has been seriously affected and she suffers from a heart condition and liver problems. Ms. Song's parents requested the prison to release her on medical bail, but Gong Yunxia, director of the daily health division in the prison hospital, denied their request.

The prison and the prison hospital refuse to release Song and all want to evade responsibility for her condition. The prison guard claimed Song was physically ill because of the strong side effects of a pulmonary tuberculosis drug she was given in the prison hospital. Wu Zeyun, deputy warden, claimed that they tied Song up on the "dead man's bed" and tortured her, using the torture method "body stretching." They all worried that Song was going to die.

They tied Song's limbs to the four corners of a specially designed "Stretch Bed," and then removed the bed board, leaving one iron tube supporting her waist while the rest of her body hung in the air. She remained in this position around the clock and was threatened that unless she renounced Falun Gong, she would have to continue to suffer this torture. She was not released to urinate and defecate and no one was assigned to clean up and take care of her.

Ms. Song Yanqun was from Shulan City, Jilin Province. She was an English teacher at the Harbin City Dade Japanese Language School. On November 27, 2003, Guo Wei and a group of policemen from the Shulan City Public Safety Bureau arrested Song. After torturing and extorting a confession, they sentenced her to a 12-year prison term. Song was infected with pulmonary tuberculosis at Changchun Heizuizi Female Prison. There were five prisoners infected with the same disease in the prison hospital. The law clearly states that prison hospitals may not accept and treat patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. In May 2005, the prison tortured Song with the method "body stretching" and "five horses splitting the body." Because of such suffering her pulmonary tuberculosis worsened.

The Changchun Heizuizi Female Prison didn't disclose Ms. Song's condition to her family. They lied to her family in an effort to conceal the truth. During the two years of her imprisonment, the guards subjected her constantly to brainwashing and tortured her with the "body stretching" on the "dead man's bed". The prison guards wouldn't let her sleep many times, abused her physically, and beat and cursed her.

The prison staff, to brainwash Song, isolated her from others. There were four people watching her around the clock. They forced her non-stop to listen to and read all kinds of evil propaganda. They intended to numb her mind. At the same time the guards tortured her with the method "body stretching."

After Song was tortured with the "body stretching" method, her left leg lost all feeling and was cold. Her right arm and hand were in excruciating pain and trembled constantly. Her suffering was unimaginable. She couldn't write. Her brain was numb. Her rib cage hurt terribly and her right lung hurt even worse. Apparently, her pulmonary tuberculosis worsened from day to day. She weighed only 60 lbs by then. A guard in the brainwashing prison ward did not believe that Song's leg was really numb, so he poked it with a needle. She didn't respond to that.

Song's pulmonary tuberculosis worsened, so she was taken to the prison hospital. Within two short years, Song became paralyzed. Gong Yunxia, who was in charge of the prison hospital said, "We can't predict the outcome of the treatment of her condition, and I can't promise any positive results. We just finished a medical checkup and the results are not known yet." Again, they tried to cover the truth. Song had been to the prison hospital twice and the hospital knew about her condition very well. Gong claimed that the hospital couldn't comment on her condition, because the hospital couldn't explain and admit to Song's family that she was seriously ill because of the persecution. Although Song was critically ill and had to stay in the prison hospital, the guards continued to brainwash and torture her mentally.

The guilty parties in the Changchun Heizuizi Female Hospital, responsible for Ms. Song Yanqun persecution were: Wu Zeyun (deputy director in charge of "reform"), Li Jian (deputy chief of administration section), Zhou Yuan (head of coerce/brainwash office), Li Yuan (head of education ward), Cao Hong, Wei Lihui, Wu Chunling (education team), Hao Ganshi, Han Hong, and Gong Yunxia (chief of sanitary section). Staff that persecuted other Falun Gong practitioners include, Li Haiyan, Hu Xiumei, Yu Xiuyan, Guo Dongmei, Jin Shunhua, Lv Guichun, Jiang Lihua, and Zuo Renmei.

At least seven practitioners died in the Changchun Heizuizi Female Prison because of the persecution. They are Ms. Yu Lixin from Jilin city, Ms. Deng Shiying, Ms. Wang Xiuyun from Huadian city, Ms. Yang Guiqin from Liaoyuan city, Ms. Yang Guijun, Ms. Han Cuiai from Siping city, Ms. Jiang Chunxian from Dehui city. Because the prison blocks any information from becoming known to the outside, the crimes listed above are only the tip of the iceberg of how hundreds of practitioners suffered brutal persecution at the prison.

Beijing City's Liulitun Street Office in the Chaoyang District Responsible for Two Deaths and One Case of Severe Disability

The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners during the past six years at the Liulitun Street Office, in conjunction with personnel from the 610 Office, resulted in two cases of abnormal death and one of severe disability. Dozens of people were illegally detained, sent to forced labor camps, sentenced to prison terms, or sent to brainwashing classes or mental hospitals for torture.

Ms. Xixiulan was one of those who was unlawfully detained nine times. Mr. Zhang Junfeng was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Ms. Wang Shuying was sentenced to seven years in a forced labor camp, Ms. Ma Guiying to one-and a-half years, and Ms. Su Wei to two years. These are only what we know right now.

Those who actually, personally participated in persecuting practitioners were Street Office Armed Section Head Wang Chunru, Party Secretary Yang Deqin. Worker's Commission Office Head (previously the head of the 610 Office) Zhang Xiaojie, female, staff worker Zhang Fu, Party deputy secretary Gao, police officer Shen Zhuo, and current 610 Office Head Wang Fenghua. Wang Chunru is the "number one" local thug. As the previous head of the 610 Office, since 2000 this person has participated in all persecutory acts against local practitioners.

    Details of the persecution

Around 2000, Liulitun Street Office Party members illegally arrested practitioner Ms. Zhou Liying. Trying to escape, Ms. Zhou Liying jumped off of a balcony. They later sent her, along with practitioner Ma Guiying, to the Beijing Law Training Center for brainwashing. Ms. Zhou could not return home and moved from place to place with her son. This was five years ago, and the mother and son's whereabouts are unknown.

In the evening on May 24, 2001, Liulitun Police Station officer Chen Bo, together with 610 Office personnel, carried Ma Guiying and Ms. Zhou Liying downstairs from their residences and took them to a brainwashing center. At the same time, Officer Wu used similar violence to carry practitioners Ms. Jia Yuhua and Mr. Liu Zhenhua from their places of residence and put them into police cars. Mr. Liu's mother-in-law was in the hospital for emergency treatment and needed her son by her side. At 4:00 a.m. on May 28, these four practitioners were again put into a police vehicle and driven away from a local brainwashing center.

On March 3, 2003, Communist party members from that Liulitun Street Office arrested practitioner Mr. Zhang Junfeng and his wife, Xu Junying. They even tried to arrest their daughter-in-law, Song Hui, who was pregnant. Under stress from threats and persecution Song Hui had a miscarriage. Mr. Zhang, 68, was later sentenced to 15 years. Ms. Xu Junying had a heart attack after being arrested and persecuted. Police hospital personnel notified the family of her critical illnesses and extorted medical costs but refused to release her. Their son was originally a railroad police officer. He suffered "guilt by association" and was removed from his position. He was transferred to guarding storage, and his salary was reduced by half. They also sent monitors to Mr. Zhang's home. At present, the family is still under surveillance.

In September 2003, the authorities arrested practitioner Ms. Han Jingui. They clearly knew that she had high blood pressure, yet they still tied her to a chair on the second floor of the street office. Later they sent her to the Balizhuang Mental Hospital for so-called treatment. After she was released, they sent people to monitor her and threatened her family. Because of the tortures she suffered in the mental hospital, Ms. Han Jingui suffered a brain hemorrhage and was sent to the Chaoyang Hospital for emergency treatment. She is still paralyzed and bedridden. She cannot speak and exits in a vegetative state.

In September 2003, Liulitun Street Office Party agents arrested practitioner Ms. Su Wei. Ms. Su was sentenced to two years of forced labor. Beijing Women's Labor Camp No.5 Division Head Chen and others used all kinds of methods to torture her, including not allowing her normal sleep for seven months, forcing her to stand facing a wall and stretching her arms horizontally, forbidding her toilet use, leading to incontinence, not allowing her to wash her face for three months, and no baths for six months. She consequently smelled bad, which humiliated her in front of her cellmates. Due to prolonged standing, blood pooled in Ms. Su's legs, and she had severe swelling in her feet and legs. The swelling extended to her stomach. Previously she wore size 36 shoes, but after the swelling she could not even wear shoes size 38. The swelling extended to her whole body, with the skin turning purple and black. The skin looked opaque and a small scratch with a fingernail could cause bleeding. Ms. Su Wei could not stand properly and often fell down. Gradually she became confused, whispering to herself, not understanding what she was saying herself. Even after her release Ms. Su is still under surveillance.

They arrested and sent practitioner Mr. Ning Peifu to a labor camp. After all kinds of tortures Ning Peifu's leukemia recurred and he passed away in early 2004.

Liulitun practitioner Ms. Zhang Jinfeng was unlawfully arrested on January 25, 2005. Agents from the Communist regime held a secret trial and sentenced her to five years in prison. By February 4 she had already sent to the Beijing Daxing Women's Prison. Before this, Ms. Zhang had appealed to a higher court, which was allowed by law, but her appeal was unreasonably rejected. During this whole legal farce and even after she was sent off to prison, none of the legal authorities notified Ms. Zhang's family.

In September 2005, the Party members again arrested practitioners Ms. Chen Fenghua and Ms. Xi Xiulan and detained them in the Chaoyang Police Department. Ms. Chen was released due to high blood pressure. After her release she was still threatened and monitored. Ms Xi's whereabouts are unknown.

Wang Chunru utilized his power to repeatedly and arbitrarily attack and retaliate against practitioners and their families. He once called practitioner Ms. Wang Shuying's husband, Hou, and ordered him to "cooperate" with their work to "reform" Ms. Wang. Mr. Hou refused this unreasonable request. Wang Chunru then harbored resentment. On the day of Wang Shuying's daughter's wedding, he arranged for police vehicles and large numbers of police officers to arrest Ms. Wang Shuying. She was then sentenced to seven years in prison, the longest prison term among local practitioners.

During the past six years, Ms. Jin Yaxian, Ms. Ma Guiying, Mr. Liu Dahua, and many other practitioners from the Liulitun Street area have been unlawfully detained, sent to forced labor, or sentenced to prison terms. According to a former deputy secretary named Li Jing there were over a dozen of them. Among them, Mr. Liu Dahua was sent to forced labor for two years. More details about the number of practitioners persecuted are under further investigation.

The Police Robbed Me on the Street and Hit Me on the Head with A Shovel, Almost Blinding Me

I was born in Fengrun County in Hebei Province. Because of my belief in Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, the local officials and the police have persecuted me over the past few years. I was illegally arrested and sent to a forced labor camp many times. I was beaten so severely that I almost lost my eyesight. The police from the Zuojiawu Police Station stole eight thousand yuan from me in broad daylight. Village head Wang Zhaotian of Zuojiawu Village poured gasoline on me and threatened, "We will burn you with gasoline and call it self-immolation."

I began to practice Falun Gong in 1997. As a result, both my physical and mental health improved greatly. The change was especially evident in my moral character.

Through cultivation, I truly realized that to be a good person, one must be true to oneself and be dignified and clear-minded. I eliminated many past deficiencies from the bottom of my heart, always requiring myself to be selfless and unselfish, and always to think of others first. I used "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance" as the standard to check my speech and behavior.

In the beginning my wife was opposed to my cultivation. But gradually, as she saw the dramatic changes in my physical and mental health, she was also moved by Falun Fong's principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance," and switched from opposing it to supporting it. This illustrates clearly that Falun Gong can truly touch a person's heart and inspire sensible thoughts.

When the Chinese government began its full-scale persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, I, trusting the government, went to Beijing to appeal so that I could say something fair for Falun Gong and the government could know the true situation. On July 23, 1999, my wife and I and some other practitioners went to Tiananmen Square. When the plainclothes police found out that we were practitioners, they beat and kicked us. Each of us was beaten by a group of policemen. My nose was injured and kept bleeding. Another practitioner was injured in her lower back, with a scar remaining even today. Then they forced us into a police car. Another practitioner and I saw a few plainclothes policemen beating a pregnant practitioner, and we jumped out of the police car to protect her with our bodies. The policemen hit us on the head and showered blows on our bodies with their leather shoes.

Faced with such irrational violence, we did not retaliate in kind. On the contrary, we stuck to, "Not hitting back when attacked, and not talking back when insulted." (from Zhuan Falun: "We have said, however, that as a practitioner one should not fight back when being punched or insulted, but should conduct oneself with a high standard.")

We would not buckle under their violence and betray what we believed in, because our belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance" is absolutely correct. Faced with the persecution from the government, all we wanted to do was to reflect to them the true situation. We were only trying to uphold one of our fundamental rights as citizens.

On May 27, 2000, when my wife and I went to visit a friend's house in Beijing, the police suddenly broke in. They arrested me, put me in the Tongzhou Detention Center in Beijing and held me there for over 10 days, claiming that I was attempting to "organize the group." Through this incident, I clearly saw that so the called "govern with the law" advocated by Jiang Zemin was a blatant lie.

When I got back home, some local personnel who persecuted Falun Gong practitioners began to harass me non-stop. In July 2000, the village police station in Zuojiawu Village, Fengrun County, Hebei Province conspired with the police station at the Zunhua Steel Company to arrest me for the second time and take me to the Fengrun County Detention Center. To force me to give up cultivation, they used all sorts of cruel methods, including: wearing shackles, holding prolonged awkward positions, hanging and beating, hitting the head with a blunt object, forcing me to stand bare-foot on burning hot steel pipes under the scorching sun.

They attempted to interrogate me to get a record. My only reply was, "Falun Gong does nothing wrong by asking people to be good." The policeman tore up one page after another. Finally he wrote, "Falun Dafa is a righteous Fa," and said to me, "Now you can sign it." I said to him, "You persecute Falun Gong and you do not deserve to interrogate me." So I still did not sign, and got out of the detention center after being persecuted for 108 days.

On the lunar calendar December 23, 2000, the village head Wang Zhaotian of Zuojiawu Village came to my house. He brought some oil and rice to me to show his niceness and tried to get some information from me. I did not accept his gift. He said ferociously, "Don't blame me for not being nice to you this time." On the morning of December 27, my wife, children, and I were having dinner at home. Suddenly Wang rushed in with a few other people. He yelled, "Isn't he practicing Falun Gong now?" Then they arrested me and took me to the brainwashing center in Xiaobalizhuang to persecute me.

I was put in a dark room. Later I learned that Wang Zhaotian, the head of Zuojiawu Police Station, and 5 or 6 other people were discussing how to torture me but not cause external injuries. Wang said to me, "Don't think I am afraid to hurt you. Higher authorities have said, 'If we beat you to death, it will be counted as suicide.' If we strangle you with a rope, it will be regarded as you hanging yourself. If we pour gasoline on you and burn you up, it will be regarded as self-immolation." As he talked, he picked up a container of gasoline and poured it over me to threaten me.

I looked straight into his eyes and advised him not to commit crimes lest he be punished. Finding that I was not intimidated, he found a rope to strangle me hard, cursing me at the same time like mad. In the following days, they took turns torturing me, beating me with wooden sticks on my ribs and naval area, crushing my fingers and toes, and even hitting my head with a shovel, causing bleeding in my eyeballs so that I almost lost my eyesight.

Faced with this persecution, I told them sternly, "Don't persecute Falun
Gong. You will receive punishment for what you do." Once, the chief, Mr. Zhang, said to me, "Didn't you say that Falun Dafa is good. Let me read this book and you can answer some questions." He began to read Zhuan Falun in front of me. As he went on, suddenly, he said, "Hum, there is nothing truly wrong here. It only teaches one to be a good person. I am not going to keep on reading it. If I do, I will become a practitioner too." Another time, Mr. Zhang beat me, while cursing me like mad. I said to him, "Our Teacher told us to follow the principles of 'Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.' You should not curse." He would not listen, but he rushed out as though he had suddenly turned crazy. He yelled while running, "I cannot take it. Send me to the hospital. Quick." From then on, he would never dare to do anything bad toward Falun Gong.

Not getting what they wanted in Xiaobalizhuang, they could not help but send me to the Fengrun Detention Center to let the police there persecute me. The police directed and manipulated the inmates to persecute me. Once, a few of them beat me. They also kicked me so much that they broke their leather shoes. I did not follow their directions, and kept sending righteous thoughts to get rid of the evil. In the meantime, I felt that Teacher was protecting me and kept helping me to pass my tribulations. As a result, I was released in September 2001.

One day in 2001, while I was on the street, a few policemen from the Zuojiawu Police Station appeared suddenly and surrounded me. They robbed me of all my money in broad daylight. They also attempted to take the videotape of Falun Gong from me but I would not let them. Five or six policemen lifted me up by my arms and legs and threw me onto the ground. My head hit the ground and swelled badly. That night, they broke into my home and arrested my wife and me and took us to the Zuojiawu Police Station. They held us overnight, trying to force us to give up cultivation. I rejected them firmly and was released the next day.

In early Spring 2002, another practitioner and I went on a motorcycle to distribute truth-clarifying materials. When the police discovered us, they chased us down with a police car. They arrested us and put us in the Dangyu Town Police Station in Zunhua City. We were cuffed with our hands pulled to the back and put in a small room. With strong righteous thoughts, the fellow practitioner forced open the handcuffs, jumped out of the window and escaped. I was taken to the city detention center where the director directed the inmates to persecute me. A few of them covered me with a quilt and began to beat and kick me. My head and chest were severely injured and they have not recovered to this day. When I asked a policeman why they directed the inmates to harm me, he said, "Who saw it? I did not see it happen." Later I was transferred to the Fengrun Detention Center. I went on a hunger strike for 9 days and finally I was released.

They did not stop persecuting me after my release. Three months later, around July 15, 2002, they broke into my home again. They knocked me and my wife to the floor, arrested me and took me to the Fengrun Police Department. They sentenced me to three years in a forced labor camp and put me in Team IV in the Hehuakeng Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan City. Policemen Liu Xiaodong and Wang Yulin directed inmates to persecute me with very mean and dirty tricks. They sharpened wooden sticks to prick my ribcage, chest, and belly, squeezed my fingers and toes, poked my eyeballs, kicked my genitals, jumped on my body, tied my arms and legs while pulling them toward the back, hit my chest with blunt objects, deprived me of my sleep for a long time, forbade me to go to the restroom and put me in solitary confinement.

I used righteous thoughts to resist the evil and refused to write the three statements to betray Falun Fong. Due to prolonged persecution, my body was badly harmed. The police in the Hehuakeng Forced Labor Camp were afraid that I might die. In March 2003, they secretly planned to send me to the Baoding Forced Labor Camp in Hebei Province. When the car came to get me, I refused to go and demanded that they be punished, but they forced me into the car.

At the Baoding Forced Labor Camp, the police forced me to have a physical check up. It was found that my heart was functionally impaired and I had lump the size of a ping-pong ball at the end of my penis. They rushed to arrange a medical parole for me and released me on March 21, 2003.

During the few years that I was persecuted, the police would do whatever they could to cause practitioners to give up their belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance." They even went as far as to try to trick practitioners into having dinner or a banquet, get them to drink or gamble, or trick them into prostitution. When they met with practitioners' firm rejection, they would then get angry, arrest them and torture them.

The above is the persecution that I personally encountered. Even today, thousands and thousands of practitioners are still being tortured and persecuted. All this is evidence of the persecution that has happened or that is happening under Jiang Zemin and the Communist regime in China. It is also evidence of practitioners' peace and strength stemming from their belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance," when they were faced with cruel persecution and malicious lies.

Exposing the Crimes Committed by Li County 610 Office Directors Wang Jianying and Xu Yonggang

In 2005 alone, there were eight practitioners in Li County, Hebei Province who were subjected to persecution. Zhao Guo was illegally sentenced to three years in prison; Yan Xiaoge was sentenced to one year in forced labor camp; Xie Ali and Cui Xiaogui were forced to leave home to avoid further persecution. On December 7, 2005, the local police ransacked the homes of practitioner Zhu Xiaozhan and his non-practitioner son. The local 610 Office directors Wang Jianying and Xu Yonggang were the ones behind the scene, planning the persecution.

They did not have a search warrant or an arrest warrant, yet they broke into these citizen's homes and ransacked them at will. What was their purpose?

According to a person working in the county government, "Wang Jianying said, 'The New Year is coming but we have a very tight budget. When we catch Falun Gong practitioners, we don't release them until their families pay us a fine." Wang Jianying and Xu Yonggang often urged County Deputy Party Secretary Ning Hongmao to order the police department to arrest practitioners. Wang and Xu wanted to extort money from practitioners and their families. Former 610 Office directors Zhang Chunliang and Niu Haifeng did exactly the same thing, extorting a large amount of money from practitioners.

Xu Yonggang also insisted on sending a practitioner's family member who is not a practitioner to a labor camp. He and Dian Lihui called the Baoding Labor Camp three times asking them to take in a practitioner who requested to have his illegally withheld wages returned.

CCP Secretary Fang Li Persecutes Falun Gong Practitioners in Qushui Village, Yueqing Town, Tumen City, Jilin Province

Fang Li, the former head of Qushui Village of Yueqing Town in Tumen City, Jilin Province, is now the Party Secretary. In the past several years, he has followed Jiang's regime closely to actively persecute Falun Gong and Falun Gong practitioners. On many occasions, he defamed the founder of Falun Gong, viciously destroyed truth-clarification materials, threatened practitioners, and reported practitioners to higher officials. During his tenure, several dozen practitioners in this village were abducted, sent to brainwashing centers, detained, and sent to labor camps. As early as the end of 1999, more than 10 practitioners were illegally arrested at one time. In the past several years, many village residents have come to know the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong, and have stopped participating in it. Still, in order to advance his own political career, Fang Li continued to persecute practitioners, and was thus promoted from village head to Party Secretary.

In order to get further promotions, Fang Li has unconditionally followed the orders from above, and has persecuted Falun Gong practitioners as much as he could. When practitioners in the same village asked him to stop persecuting Falun Gong, and stop cursing Falun Gong or Teacher, so as not to receive karmic retribution in the future, he replied that he was not afraid of retribution. He even kissed some female practitioners in front of other people. When practitioners asked him to stop following Jiang and doing bad deeds, he said he would stick with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to the end. He also shamelessly said in public that it is no problem to take advantage of women, since they are too embarrassed to tell others about it.

In October 2004, he went with the Yueqing Town Party Secretary, surnamed Jin, to the farmers' market to harass practitioner A. On the following day, he returned to the market with another person, where they together slandered Falun Gong and Teacher in front of practitioner A. Several days later, Fang Li asked Jin, as well as the village accountant, a policeman, and a female government officer, to go to practitioner A's vegetable patch and abduct her. As a result, this practitioner was forced to leave home.

Because of the persecution, practitioner A has suffered much financial hardship. The village officers reported this to high officials hoping to get some financial aid for A, but Party Secretary Jin blocked it. When practitioner A asked a village officer why her financial aid application was not approved, she was told that Party Secretary Jin said she was not suffering financial difficulty at all. They often treat practitioners like this. Practitioner A wrote letters to various government offices in Tumen City to expose the persecution against her from the township and village government. Fang Li was fearful, and asked A's family not to expose this.

In June 2005, in order to further advance his prestige, Fang Li led several people, including Township Party Secretary Jin, two female government officers, Bi Wenge from the 610 Office, Zhou Zhangqi from the police station, and the village head, among others, to the Coal Factory where practitioner A works. They intended to further persecute A by holding a brainwashing class. With righteous thoughts, practitioner A refused to comply with their plans and escaped from the site, spoiling their attempt to hold the class. Upon hearing this story, A's family went to these people to complain, mentioning that it was Fang Li that reported A to the police in 1999 and caused her to be arrested. Fang Li shamelessly said, "Yes, it was me who reported her and arrested her. What are you going to do about it?" Practitioner A's family was very upset: "So, you want to come and arrest my daughter-in-law? Is it because of her practicing Falun Gong? Falun Gong is really good! Although I do not practice, I think Falun Gong is much better than the CCP!" Upon hearing this, Bi Wenge from the 610 Office said, "No, no, we are not here to arrest her. We are following an order from the provincial government to transform her. Even if she is not transformed, we still need to report her to the provincial government."

Due to the influence of the two party secretaries Jin and Fang Li, the coal factory owner refused to pay practitioner A's salary of more than 1,200 yuan.

In December 2005, policeman Zhou Zhangqi in Qushui Village went to harass practitioner A's family with the excuse of inspecting their residential status. Harassment of this sort made it impossible for practitioner A and her family to live a normal life.

Because of Fang Li, practitioner B was illegally detained many times and sent to a labor camp. After being brutally persecuted, B returned home and clarified the truth about Falun Gong to other people. When Fang Li saw this, he threatened B: "Do you want to be detained again?" Practitioner B opposed this with righteous thoughts. In December 2005, when B was clarifying the truth to several people, Fang Li went to interfere again. With righteous thoughts, practitioner B exposed Fang Li's bad deeds, such as harassing practitioners with the excuse of inspecting finances, as well as his defaming practitioners.

The Persecution of Practitioners Mr. Wu Jianmin and Ms. Zhou Xiaohong in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province

Since April 2005 the authorities have illegally imprisoned practitioner Ms. Zhou Xiaohong, a resident of Team 302 in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, in the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp. Under "strict supervision" and subjected to repeated beatings, Ms. Zhou is now walking with a limp. Also from Chenzhou City, practitioner Mr. Wu Jianmin was illegally sentenced to four years in prison for practicing Falun Gong and is currently detained in the Jin City prison.

Since July 1999 when Jiang's regime initiated the suppression of Falun Gong, Mr. Wu has been in prison practically the entire time. First on October 27, 1999, when Mr. Wu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, he was illegally detained for one month and had 4,000 yuan extorted from him. Back then his only child, an elementary pupil, was just 11 years old. In January 2000 when Mr. Wu went to visit another practitioner at the 7429 Plant in Chenzhou City, he was reported and arrested. The guards at the 7429 Plant brutally beat him and stomped on his toes so brutally that some of his toenails fell off. They then took him to the 2nd Detention Center of Chenzhou City and imprisoned him there for over three months. When Mr. Wu was released from the detention center, his mental state was cloudy and his reactions slow. His entire body bore the scars of the extreme brutality. It was a shocking sight to behold.

While Mr. Wu maintained his belief, his wife acquiesced under the vile party's pressure and divorced him on March 3, 2000. Later, the authorities once again arrested him and imprisoned him in the 1stDetention Center for slave labor. Mr. Wu was forced to chain colored light bulbs. He had to make six bags everyday, with each bag containing over one thousand bulbs. In spite of his hard work from early morning to late night, he could hardly finish five and a half bags. As a result, the prison head routinely punished him with a variety of tortures.

In September 2001, the authorities sentenced him to one and a half years and imprisoned him in the Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp. Soon after he returned home in 2002, the police again arrested him in September. In August 2003, the authorities sentenced him to another four years in Jin City Prison in Hunan Province.

While Mr. Wu was being persecuted, the grades of his child, which had previously been an excellent, dropped sharply. Mr. Wu's son had to be taken care of by his 85-year-old grandmother Ms. Wang Peilan, who had a paltry monthly income of only 110 "yuan".

Also in Chenzhou City, the authorities have imprisoned practitioner Ms. Zhou Xiaohong from Team 302 of Chenzhou City in Baimalong Forced Labor Camp. Because she too maintained her belief in Falun Gong, she was put under strict supervision and brutally beaten. Ms. Zhou now walks with a limp. In addition, she was not allowed to go to the toilet or to bed for days. She was forced to squat day and night, with her arms stretching forward.

Divorced for a number of years, Ms. Zhou has custody of her 12-year-old son but his father is currently taking care of him. Accusing her of mailing Falun Gong materials to her hometown, the police at Anren in Chenzhou City imprisoned her for several months. When she was finally released, the authorities at Team 302 took away her teaching position and forced her to sweep the streets. Her wages were reduced to less than half, and she was unable to support her child, who was going to middle school. She was forced to send her son to the child's father in Beijing.

In carrying out orders from the 610 Office, the authorities at Team 302 in Chenzhou City, accompanied by local police, frequently go to practitioners' homes to search, confiscate books, and extort money. For instance, in March 2001, led by Luo Zhi, Yu Qionghui, and Jing Hongwei, the police from Team 302, Officer Chen Gang and Officer Gao Yongzhi from the police department of Beihu District, Chenzhou City, went ransacking practitioners' homes. In September 2001, Fu Jiangsheng, the Associate Head of Team 302, and Zhou Lingzhi, the principal of Team 302 School, together forced a practitioner teacher to leave his job. On January 22, 2003, police officers Luo Zhi, Yu Qionghui, and Jing Hongwei from Team 302 once again searched practitioner Ms. Zhou Xiaohong's house and illegally imprisoned her for 135 days.
