  • Mother Tortured to Death for Practicing Falun Gong - Her Children Live Difficult Lives

Two years ago, Ms. Xue Xia, a Falun Gong practitioner from Xingtai City, Hebei Province, was persecuted to death at the Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp. She left behind a son and a daughter. Because their mother was a Falun Gong practitioner, the children have been denied all care and support.

    Xue Xia's children

Ms. Xue died in the Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp on February 21, 2003. Her daughter, Wang Jiaojiao, was born on September 13, 1991 and is now in junior high at the Yuban Experimental School of Xingtao County. Her son, Wang Chao, was born on March 9, 1993. Chao graduated from elementary school and was admitted to the Yuban Experimental School of Xingtao County this year. Xue Xia's husband, Wang Haihe, was fired from his job at Xingtai Medical School because his wife practiced Falun Gong. The family lives without any income, and the two children have become very quiet and withdrawn as this terrible situation developed.

Following is a brief explanation of Xue Xia's persecution and death.

Xue Xia was born in Jiejiatun Village, Xingtai City, Hebei Province in 1970. In 2001 an official named Tian from Daliangzhuang Community illegally arrested Xue Xia and her mother, Yin Xiai, and took them to the Fifth Team of the Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp. Xue Xia suffered tremendously from torture in the forced labor camp. She was beaten, shocked with an electric baton, and deprived of sleep. Xia was forced to take a tablet, known as a brainwashing pill, because it weakens the patient, and produces a loss of appetite and loose bowels. Xue Xia was tortured to the verge of death, and camp officials feared she would die while in custody. Fearful of her imminent demise, the camp released her and Yin Xiai on medical leave.

After receiving extended treatment in the People's Hospital at Xingtai City, Xue Xia left the hospital. With her mother's support, Xue Xia read Falun Gong books and practiced the exercises, which gradually improved her health. On September 17, 2002, five policemen from Team 5 of the Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp joined with Directors of the Street Office of Meishi, Man Yun and Xia Wu, and again arrested the mother and daughter and put them into Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp.

During the following three months, labor camp officials forced the mother and daughter to write the three statements. Under the cruel persecution, Xue Xia's restored health again deteriorated, and she lost her appetite and then lost consciousness. In this state a guard named Jiang ordered Xue Xia to sit on the bare ground in the cold winter, in a corridor that allowed the wind to blow over her. She was also forced to stand for hours while tied to a bed. For the next three to four days, Xue Xia did not eat or drink anything and was near death. The camp again feared that she would die in the labor camp and sent her home.

Returning to her district, Xue Xia stayed at the People's Hospital in Xingtai City. She was diagnosed with diminished brain function, and after suffering from the pain of a painful illness, Xue Xia died at 5:30 p.m. on February 21, 2003 at the People's Hospital in Xingtai City.

Grandma Shi Shengying Tortured to Death in Shenyang Prison

Tianjiao was very thoughtful while living with her grandfather. No matter how much cruelty she suffered, she not once complained to her grandfather. Only when she missed her grandmother deeply would she whisper into her grandfather's ears, "When will grandma come home?"

Abandoned by her parents after she was born, Tianjiao was cared for by her grandmother for more than ten years. Her 65-year-old grandmother will never return. Shi Shengying has been tortured to death in Shenyang Prison.

At 7 pm on August 25, 2005, Shenyang Prison called Shi's family to say that Shi Shengying has passed away and was in the 739 Hospital. According to a doctor, she had already died by the time her body was brought to the hospital. At the cremation memorial, her family saw wounds on her neck, chest and in her rib area. When her family wanted to take pictures of her body, the police quickly grabbed the camera and shouted, "We can't let you take pictures. If they are shown on the Minghui (Clearwisdom) website, we'll be fired."

    Tianjiao's Bitter Experience

In 1991, while on a tour, a group of medical personnel heard a low sound coming from a cardboard box underneath the seats. They first thought that it might be dog or cat. They couldn't believe it was an infant.

Photo: Lu Tianjiao, the child adopted by Shi Shengying

With the agreement of the person in charge of the train and police, nurse Lu Changlan took the baby home and gave it to her parents, Lu Qingzhai and Shi Shengying. The elderly couple adopted the baby and was able to obtain the adoption papers, though with some difficulty. She became this elderly couple's beloved granddaughter. They named her Lu Tianjiao.

In the spring of 1996, Shi Shengying was paralyzed in a car accident. Her vertebra fractured at the seventh and eighth section. Several months later, someone gave her a copy of Zhuan Falun and introduced her to practice Falun Gong. After reading Zhuan Falun for several days, even though she had only three years of formal education, a miracle happened, she was able to sit up, and after two months, she was able to walk again. People who knew her had witnessed the miraculous power of Falun Gong.

When Jiang Zemin's regime began the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Shi Shengying went to Beijing to appeal to the government and was arrested. On October 17, her daughter Lu Changliang also went to Beijing to clarify the facts and was arrested and detained in the Xicheng Detention Center in Beijing. All of a sudden, the family was in great anguish. Seeing her grandpa's tear-streaked face, the 8-year-old Tianjiao asked in tears: "Will grandma and aunty return home?"

    Grandma's Plight

Shi Shengying was brought back to her hometown and illegally detained in the Shenyang Women's Re-education Camp and the Longshan Forced Labor Camp at Shenyang City. The evildoers tortured her. They made her squat, shocked her with electric batons and forced her to do hard labor. After six months of torture, the political and legal committee forced her family to pay 2,000 yuan for her release. Her daughter Lu Changliang was sentenced to serve one year of forced labor and was sent to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp because she had written down her experience about appealing in Beijing.

Six months after her release, Shi Shengying went again to Beijing to appeal and was arrested. She was sentenced to two years of forced labor and sent to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. When Shi Shengying saw her daughter at Masanjia, she saw that her daughter had been severely tortured and that she no longer could walk unaided. Because of her persistent belief in Falun Gong, Shi Shengying's sentence was extended twice. She had suffered cruel torture: forced standing, locked to an iron bed, tied to a tiger bench, dirty clothes stuffed in her mouth, mouth being taped, being knocked against the wall, shocked with electric batons, and locked in a small cell. Her body was covered with scabies and sores that oozed pus. Because of the guards' brutal beatings, she had a concussion, vomited, and suffered severe blood loss. According to a doctor, she was close to death.

To escape responsibility, Masanjia released Shi Shengying after her family paid a 4,000 yuan guaranty fee. Tianjiao did not leave her grandmother's bedside, afraid of losing her again.

On the afternoon of August 25, 2003, several people claiming to be from the 610 Office intruded into She Shengying's home and arrested her without giving any explanation. They even left the stove burning. Alas, before recovering from previous torture , Shi Shengying was sent to the Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp. Several days later, Shi Shengying's husband was also sent there. Once again Tianjiao had no one to take care of her.

In the Zhangshi brainwashing class, Shi Shengying was so severely tortured that she often fell unconscious. She suffered many head wounds from falling down. After more than a month of torture, she became very ill and was released.

On November 30, 2004, she was telling people in a park about Falun Gong being persecuted and was arrested by the police of the Tiexi Section Public Security. On January 31, 2005, the court in the Tiexi Section of Shenyang City held an unlawful trial and sentenced her to four years in prison. All of the charges were fabricated. She was then sent to the third group of the Shenyang Women Prison in Masanjia Zi County, Yuhong Section, Shenyang City.

Grandma won't be returning home anymore

At 7 p.m. on August 25, 2005, Shenyang Prison called to notify Shi Shengying's family that Shi Shengying was dead and was in the 739 Hospital.

Police tried to force the family to sign the cremation release. Her family refused. On August 26, Shi Shengying's husband, family members and many Falun Gong practitioners went to view the remains of Shi Shengying. More than a dozen of plain-clothes policemen refused to let them in and told them: "We are waiting for the leadership to make a decision." After waiting for more than an hour, no "leadership" showed up. A carload of policemen arrived and continued to keep them out.

Shi Shengying is not the first Falun Gong practitioner to be tortured to death in the Shenyang Prison. On December 8, 2003, the Second Prison notified the family of Wu Yuan, a math teacher from Beilu County Middle School in Lingyuan City. Wu Yuan's wife, Liang Xiuyu, went to the prison hospital ward on December 10 and could hardly recognize her emaciated husband. When Wu Yuan was about to say something to his wife, the prison guard found an excuse to push her out of the room. On the afternoon of that same day, Wu Yuan's family received a death notice. Other Falun Gong practitioners that were tortured to death include Lou Yan from Anshan City; Guan Wenjiang, 33, from Tongjiafang Village, Damintun County, Xinmin City; and Zhou Zhi, an engineer from the Bengangjikong Factory.

We call on the international community to help stop the persecution of Falun Gong in China.

Daqing Prison Authorities Killed Three Practitioners and Tortured Dozens Others within Three Months

In all of China, Heilongjiang Province in the northeast has been the area where Jiang Zemin and the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong has been among the most severe. Under the annihilation policies of "defame their reputation, bankrupt them financially and destroy them physically" and "if practitioners are beaten to death it is nothing and shall be counted as suicide," as well as the dictum "cremate their bodies right away and don't identify them," the authorities in Heilongjiang have persecuted Falun Gong practitioners severely. Since July 20, 1999, the number of practitioners who have died as a direct result of the persecution has reached 336. This number has been confirmed, and the practitioners' names and the persecution details have been verified. These deaths represent the second largest number of all the provinces in China.

The authorities at Daqing Prison (also called the Hongweixing Prison in Daqing City) have persecuted practitioners using as many as ten different methods of torture. Particularly after the May 1st holidays this year and after Jiang Shuchen, the deputy head of the prison in charge of the persecution of Falun Gong, and Guo Chuntang, the chief of the Reform Section and also head of the 610 Office in Daqing Prison, returned from Xi'an City after a meeting, the prison authorities started a new round of brutal persecution of practitioners. They ordered prisoners to monitor them and insisted that those practitioners on hunger strikes resist the persecution be force-fed once every two or three days. Each time they were force-fed corn flour paste with no regard for their lives. About 60 practitioners suffered this and other tortures. Three of them were tortured to death.

On May 14, Mr. Wang Hongde died after suffering physical torture and mental torment, as well as from illnesses resulting from torture

Mr. Wang Hongde, 56, was an employee of the Xinhua Power Generation Plant in the Datong District of Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. After the persecution started in July 1999, because Mr. Wang refused to give up his belief in Falun Gong, he was sentenced to a five-year prison term. On August 16, 2003, Mr. Wang was sent to the Hongweixing Prison in Daqing City.

    Photo of Wang Hongde

The first day, the guards beat and tortured Mr. Wang with leather belts. His hands were swollen, his palms were bleeding, and half of a tooth in his upper-right jaw was broken off. During his illegal detention, staff from the prison's "Education Section" (the 610 Office) forced him to watch video programs slandering Falun Gong. They tried to brainwash him and mentally tormented him.

Around December 2002, Mr. Wang suffered a heart attack as a result of the torture and prolonged sleep deprivation. He fell into a coma. He was then diagnosed with severe heart disease--mitral stenosis and third-degree heart weakness.

When Mr. Wang's family members learned of his situation, they went to Daqing Prison and requested to see him. But no matter how they asked, Wang Yingjie, the prison head, didn't allow them to see Mr. Wang because Mr. Wang didn't write the "Five Statements." Meanwhile, the prison wanted to improve the so-called "reformation rate" and aggravated Mr. Wang's torment. Mr. Wang then lived in the hospital affiliated with the prison. Hospital administrator Huang often attempted to force Mr. Wang to write the Five Statements by threatening that they would dismiss him from the hospital. After receiving a truth clarification phone call from a Falun Gong practitioner, Director of the hospital Gao Qing verbally abused Mr. Wang and tried to make him to reveal the name of the caller. Because of the intense mental pressure, Mr. Wang's condition deteriorated. He had difficulty breathing and suffered from edema.

Although they experienced many setbacks, the family still pleaded to send Mr. Wang to a regular hospital for a re-examination. At first, prison head Wang Yingjie refused and spoke rudely to the family. Later the prison authorities didn't want to be held responsible and approved Mr. Wang's transfer to the No. 4 Hospital in Daqing for a re-examination.

In January 15, 2003, while still wearing heavy, linked-together handcuffs and shackles, Wang Hongde had a difficult re-examination in the No. 4 Hospital. The diagnosis showed rheumatic heart disease, joined valves, high aortal pressure, mitral valve stenosis, heart regurgitation, and fourth-degree heart weakness.

In January 24, 2003, the family made a formal application to Daqing Prison for Mr. Wang's medical parole. Prison head Wang Yingjie not only refused to release Mr. Wang, but also blocked information about him, aggravated his persecution, and didn't permit the family to visit him. A guard even said, "We would rather see a Falun Gong practitioner die here than release him or her for medical treatment."

Mr. Wang's mother was over 70 years old and suffered from high blood pressure. After learning that her son was at the brink of death from torture, she made the long trip to the prison to seek medical parole for her son.

At 8:30 a.m. on August 25, 2004, Mr. Wang's mother came to the Daqing Prison office complex and found prison head Wang Yingjie. Wang Yingjie refused to let her enter the office. He even called officers from the police station. A police officer dragged her from the third floor all the way to the police car, and then sent her to the Hongweixing Police Station with the excuse that she was a troublemaker and Falun Gong sympathizer. They illegally interrogated her.

The mental torment contributed to Mr. Wang's deteriorating physical condition. His heartbeat was 160 to 200 times per minute. He suffered severe edema and couldn't move, even to use the restroom. He had difficulty breathing and was at death's door. Nevertheless, Mr. Wang still had to wear the heavy instruments of torture. His family had frequently requested the removal those devices but got no response. His clothing was stained, and he couldn't have his pants washed in a timely manner, causing serious tissue damage in his groin area.

At the insistence of the doctors and his family, Mr. Wang stayed in the hospital for 14 days, from February 13 to February 27, 2005. Then, without assent from the family or the patient, the prison authorities discharged him from the hospital. Mr. Wang's illnesses were such that he was in no condition to be released from the hospital. The doctor said that his illnesses must be at least be stabilized; otherwise, with each recurrence the illness would get worse and finally become fatal.

On February 25, 2005, Mr. Wang's family came to the prison to petition for his further hospitalization and treatment. Their efforts ended in vain after rushing about for three days. The prison authorities stalled all of the family's efforts, as usual. Since Mr. Wang was suddenly prevented from having access to medication and timely treatments, between February 22 and April 30 his illnesses recurred again and again, and he finally lost hope of recovery.

Wang Yingjie and others from Daqing Prison repeatedly delayed Mr. Wang's medical parole. When they finally released him, he had been incarcerated for two years and three months, from January 24, 2003 until April 30, 2005.

On May 14, 2005, 15 days after his release, Wang Hongde passed away.

On June 7, five prisoners drowned Mr. Xu Jishan under orders from Daqing Prison authorities

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xu Jishan from Daqing City was 41 years old. He worked at the Furnace Construction Company under the Daqing City Petrochemical Company's Construction Company in Heilongjiang Province. Because he practiced Falun Gong, the company terminated his work contract. In March 2004, Mr. Xu was illegally sentenced to three years in prison for distributing truth clarification materials. He was sent to the No. 7 Prison Ward at Daqing Prison.

    Xu Jishan

    Xu Jishan and his son

At 4 p.m. on June 7, 2005, the prison unexpectedly notified Xu Jishan's family, saying, "The Daqing fourth Hospital tried to save Xu Jishan's life, but it didn't work out. Mr. Xu died of illness."

There was congealed blood in his mouth and nose, and teeth marks around his mouth. According to reliable sources, five prisoners, with instructions from a prison guard, held Xu Jishan under water until he suffocated. The prison attempted to cover up the truth. They forbade his family from seeing the body or doing a brain scan.

On May 11, 2005, the CCP Committee of Daqing Prison held a meeting, during which they decided to intensify the torture of Falun Gong practitioners. In the meeting, those present were told, "Any death resulting from a hunger strike will be treated as a natural death." In the meantime, in a nearby hospital, they prepared more than ten plastic tubes to force feed Falun Gong practitioners who went on hunger strikes. They decided that this time they would force-feed practitioners with saline solution and corn congee.

Xu Jishan was once detained in the Seventh Division of Daqing Prison. He had acted against the persecution for a long time. The authorities tried to force Mr. Xu to write a repentance statement by forcing him to stand for seven days without any sleep. One day, when Mr. Xu was so tired that he could no longer hold himself upright, a prisoner who watched him tied him to the ladder of a bunk bed. Several days later, at midnight, many people were awakened by Mr. Xu's scream for help. He was sprayed with water, which soaked his winter coat and pants.

On June 7, 2005, Mr. Xu ate a piece of bread and drank a big bowl of gruel for his breakfast. He was in good physical condition. He emptied and cleaned the spittoon and helped clean the study room. At about 9 a.m., Li Liancai ordered a prisoner on duty to take out two bed boards, which he claimed would be used to brainwash Mr. Xu. They then fastened the boards into a cross and bound Mr. Xu to them after stripping off his clothes. They said, "We have given you many chances to renounce your belief, but you have rejected them. Now we will no longer give you any more chances."

At noon on June 7, 2005, Li Fengjiang, the team leader, and Zhang Dezhi, the head of the police section, gave personal instructions for Mr. Xu's torture. Prisoners who participated in his murder were Li Liancai, Pu Song, Guo Liyang, Wang Anhui, and Chen Zhongyu. They striped off his clothes, tied him onto a board, carried him to a restroom, closed all the windows, and gagged him. Then they sprayed cold water on him and dunked him in water. Around noon, police officer Zhang Dezhi entered the prison restroom to give personal instructions. At around 1:00 p.m. Mr. Xue was carried out of the restroom and rushed to the hospital, but he had already stopped breathing from choking on too much water.

On July 23 Mr. Yuan Qingjiang died after prolonged torture

Mr. Yuan Qingjiang was a practitioner from the Xiangfang District in Harbin City. He died on the night of July 23, 2005, after enduring brutal tortures by the Daqing Prison guards.

Mr. Yuan was once arrested during the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference on March 7, 2003. The authorities unlawfully sentenced him to Harbin Prison, where he was subjected to severe torture. Prison guard Zhang Jiushan and prisoners Guan Dejun and Wang Shijun forced him to stand for 18 days without sleep. They also beat him, causing water to accumulate in his chest. He felt wobbly and uneasy, and his arms and legs were numb. Mr. Yuan eventually lost consciousness.

On July 1, 2004, Mr. Yuan was transferred from Harbin Prison to the sixth division of the Daqing Prison. After Chinese Labor Day on May 1, 2005, the Daqing Prison authorities intensified the persecution. More than 10 practitioners went on a hunger strike to protest. They were confined in a solitary compartment and forced to sit on metal chairs. From March 30 to June 1, Dong Fenghuan, the head of the Sixth Division, and the deputy head instructed prisoners to tie up Mr. Yuan for three days. At the same time, Dong Fenghuan brutally beat him. Mr. Yuan suffered severe torture and coughed up blood. His arms and legs were hurt from being tied up. The beating injured his liver, resulting in severe abdominal edema. The size of his abdomen was abnormal. His genitals were swollen. He was emaciated.

Mr. Yuan protested this inhumane treatment with a hunger strike. When his condition was critical, prison guards took him to the prison hospital to undergo so-called "treatment." To use some prisoners' words to describe it, "Going into this hospital is the same as being sentenced to death." On July 23, 2005, Mr. Yuan Qingjiang died as a result of abuse.

    Dozens of practitioners were tortured

Daqing Prison guard Guo Chuntang claimed, "It is nothing if Daqing Prison tortures a couple of people to death." Prison guard Li Fengjiang said in public, "When dealing with Falun Gong, if they don't reform, cremate them." When prison head Jiang Shuchen saw that Falun Gong practitioners were being called out of solitary confinement to be force-fed, he told the guard, "Why do you feed them milk powder and corn congee? Feeding them water is enough!"

The prisoners whom the guards instructed to torture practitioners said, "The government (prison guards) told us that as long as we don't create any visible injuries, we could do whatever we wanted with them."

According to a recent Minghui/Clearwisdom website report, more than 60 practitioners are still confined in that prison. In this new tide of persecution, they have suffered from torture to varying degrees. The following is a partial list:

More than 10 practitioners were protesting the persecution with a hunger strike. As a result, they were confined in a solitary compartment and forced to sit on metal chairs.

Practitioner Mr. Cheng Peiming refused to wear the prisoner uniform. Prison guard Pan Shaolin instructed prisoners to beat him, but he still refused to wear the uniform, so they tied Mr. Cheng up for several days. Pan Shaolin finally said in front of many prisoners, "I don't believe that I can't make you give in. If you are not afraid of death, I am not afraid of burying you." Then he secretly told a prisoner to strangle Cheng Peiming to death when Mr. Cheng was on his way to the restroom, saying, "Don't worry, it will be called a suicide." That prisoner didn't do it, so he was kicked out of the Prisoner Patient Division. Cheng Peiming had pulmonary tuberculosis, but the prison didn't release him or give him treatment. They put him in a solitary compartment instead.

Prison guard Li Jinhao boxed Mr. Wu Chunwen's ear, injuring his eardrum. He lost hearing in that ear as a result.

Mr. Zhao Yuan is a Falun Gong practitioner from the Seventh Division. He was tortured to the point where he couldn't eat and was hospitalized.

Mr. Zhang Zhi is a former employee from the Daqing Petroleum Institute. One of his ribs was injured from being kicked. The pain didn't go away until a month later. He couldn't breathe well with his ribs injured. Mr. Zhang went on a hunger strike to protest the torture. They force-fed him and also knocked out one of his front teeth.

Practitioner Mr. Li Lizhuang was sentenced to up to four years in prison. He is now being grossly abused in the First District of Daqing Prison. Prison guards and convicts worked together to abuse him inhumanely. They deprived him of his right to sleep, beat him, and sprayed cold water on him. They once stuck a water pipe into his anus and injected water into it. Also, some of his ribs were broken from the beating.

Because Mr. Zhang Zidong refused to wear the prison uniform, the prison guard instructed five or six prisoners to tear off his clothes, slap his face, and break his glasses. They confined him in a solitary compartment. Mr. Zhang went on an eight-day hunger strike and was force-fed twice. Beginning on May 20, prison guards refused to let him walk out of the building, go to the cafeteria, or get water. They had two prisoners monitor him every day.

Mr. Pu Fanwei is a 26-year-old practitioner from Gannan County. He is as thin as a stick from abuse under the persecution. His condition is critical and has recently been getting worse. His blood pressure is between 40 and 70, he has black stool, his breathing is weakening, and he often falls into unconsciousness. The prison refuses to release him or give him treatment, and they continue to abuse him.

    Evil will meet with evil

Karmic retribution is approaching those who have persecuted Falun Gong. Si Jiaxiang, the deputy secretary of the Daqing City CCP Committee and the secretary of the Discipline Committee, was the individual personally in charge of persecuting Falun Gong. In the middle of July, he died in a car accident. This person treated Falun Gong practitioners' compassionate urgings and warnings as a joke and missed many opportunities to repent and make up for his wrongdoings. He finally got karmic retribution.

Disasters and misfortunes happen for a reason. It is no joke that good is rewarded with good and evil meets with evil.

I Was Tortured in 26 Different Ways during My Two Years of Detention in the Xishanping Forced Labor Camp, Chongqing City - Part 2

     (Continued)

    Part 1: /emh/articles/2005/9/4/64569.html

    3. "Education Division" is in fact a "torture" division

On November 20, 2000, a so-called "Education Division" (No.7 Division) was established that specialized in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Tian Xiaohai was appointed to be the division head. There was only one team in the division then. We were transferred there on the same day. Many practitioners from other teams were transferred there, too. Sixty practitioners were in the division. To supervise practitioners, two or three drug offenders were assigned to each practitioner as "personal cangues." The environment became more severe. The following prisoners were on duty in the Education Division (During 2001-2003): Yang Jianguo (in his 20s), Hu Taiping (from Peiling), Qin Jian, Duan Wei, Wang Jianpeng, Liu and others.

Right in front of the Education Division building was a square field, surrounded by four to five-meter high stone walls on three sides. With the Education Division building erected on the fourth side, one felt like he was in a big pit when standing in the square field. It is used as a place to brutally persecute practitioners. In 2002, as many as 80 practitioners were held there.

    (1) Force-feeding through a tube in my nose made my face swell up; beatings knocked out several teeth

As soon as we were sent there, they forced us to sing songs. Those who refused to sing were punished by having to stand straight for long hours, from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 A.M., sometimes even until to 3:00 A.M. (Sometimes we were even forced to stand during meals.) We were forced to stand on the open field during the daytime and to stand in the prison cell during the night. One week later our legs were swollen.

After March or April 2002, we were forced to learn new songs that praised the evil CCP and the police. The drug offenders Wu Jian, Wang Jun and Chen Jun were assigned to teach the songs. Wu Jian even wrote a song to slander Falun Gong and to promote "brainwashing by force," which practitioners were forced to sing around May 2002.

During holidays, the labor camp would put on performances and forced practitioners to sing or give a performance. The drug offenders would make programs that slander Falun Gong to earn additional merits. Guard Ye Hua was in charge of planning and rehearsals. He was also in charge of the broadcasts in the Education Division that slandered Falun Gong and forced practitioners to write articles.

When the evildoers forced practitioners to write the Three Statements, they also forced the practitioners to write down things such as "I got help and education from the education cadres" and "It is the education officers who saved me" and affix their thumbprints on the statements.

On May 10, 2001, World Falun Dafa Day, we started a group hunger strike to protest the formation of the specialized division to detain and torture practitioners. Guards started force-feeding and brutally beating us if we did not cooperate, saying they would do force-feed three times a day. On May 14, Gu Liangjun, Tan Hongyi and I still persisted in a hunger strike. Other practitioners were compelled to resume eating after being brutally force-fed. Prison doctor Chen Jianping had inserted tubes through their noses. At 8:00 or 9:00 P.M., the inmate on duty Yang Jianguo took me to the duty office. Police officers Li Cunlun, Chen Jiao, He and another prison doctor were already there. Education section head Tian Xin asked, "Do you want to eat?" I said, "As long as our request is not granted, I will refuse to eat."

Tian Xin was drunk and his eyes were bloodshot. He forced me to squat and told me, "I just want to beat you to death." Then, holding my collar with both hands, he shook me back and forth, yelling, "I'll beat you to death. I'll beat you to death!" I couldn't breathe and had to pull his hands off me. He totally lost control. While holding my collar with one hand, he punched me in the head with the other.

My face, eyes and forehead were swollen. Several of my front teeth were knocked out. They broke off deep inside the gum, so parts were still attached to the gums and did not immediately come off, but dangled there. My nose and mouth kept bleeding, and blood flowed into the clothes on my chest. I felt dizzy and weak.

Even when I was badly hurt, two prison doctors still force-fed me. Yang Jianguo and a few other prisoners forced me into a chair. They inserted the feeding tube through my nose. Blood immediately covered the tube and dripped along the tube. They injected a powdered milk mixture into the tube. After two syringes, I felt dizzy, had difficulty breathing and was unable to talk. I was at the brink of death. After they finished, my face was covered in blood. Guards told Yang Jianguo to clean up my face and made Yang and Li Cunlun send me back to the cell, where the broken teeth fell off.

That night at around 10:00 P.M., when other inmates had already fallen asleep, Tian Xin, guard He and Wu Tao dragged me to the Xishanping Hospital. The next day doctor Gao Xiaohong instructed the inmates to tie me to a bed, with both hands and legs stretched out. I was given an infusion and wasn't sent back to the Education Division until May 30.

The day prior to losing teeth from the beating, the female practitioners in Maojiashan Labor Camp held a group practice in the open field and for that suffered brutal beatings by the inmates. My sixth aunt Fu Rufang was beaten on the ground. She was stomped on and dragged backward and suffered the torture of "Carrying a Sword in the Back" [The practitioner's hands are tied behind his back with one hand over the shoulder and the other hand against the lower back]. This severely injured to her left shoulder and resulted in pain and swelling for over two weeks. Half of her shoulder was covered with bruises. She had no strength in her hand for more than six months and even had difficulty raising it up high enough to comb her hair.

The prisoners in the agricultural team were usually strong because they do daily farm work. Sometimes they were called on to abuse practitioners. Between the end of 2001 and the beginning of 2002, when guards forced practitioners to answer roll call, squat or count off by numbers, the prisoners in the agriculture team were called in and stood along the open field. Then guards started to call out individual names. Those who refused to answer, squat or count off would be immediately dragged out and subjected to brutal beating and kicking by those from the agriculture team. They even used their shoes to slap practitioners' faces.

Hospitals were also used to persecute practitioners, especially at the beginning of 2002. Many practitioners were beaten and then sent to the hospital, where they endured additional beatings. These cases were usually hard to make public. Xishanping Hospital in particular was used in the persecution, but not many such cases were exposed. Numerous practitioners such as Yuan Yugang, Huang Guangming, Zhang Zhengwei, Tang Yi, and Wang Zhengrong were sent there as a result of beatings.

    (2) Brutally beaten for holding group practice

At around 8 o'clock in the evening on October 24, 2001, Wei Xia, Jin Tao, Cheng Jianhua, Liu Youxin and I were practicing the exercises in room #7. Guard Wan Zhaohui grabbed hold of my ears and pulled me out of the room with all his strength. On-duty drug addict Yan Rongzhi helped him drag me. They dragged me to the drill ground. Wang Zhaohui urged Yan Rongzhi to beat me brutally and hit me hard right in the face. After a particularly hard blow, part of my nose was torn open, and part of the cartilage was broken. (Even today I still can feel the distorted nasal cartilage). It was raining at the time. My blood mixed with the rain and dripped rapidly from my broken nose. It went all over the ground.

I continued to practice the "Falun Standing Stance Exercise." Wang Zhaohui then got a baton with spikes on the end, and beat me ruthlessly on my arms, legs and ribs. After 20 or 30 hits to my body, I couldn't remaining standing any longer. He dragged me up and wanted to continue the beating. Wang Zhaohui was drunk and completely out of his mind. The prisoners gave him the nickname "alcoholic killer" when he was in charge of the Strictly Controlled Group because he often beat people when he was drunk.

I saw guards on the other side viciously beating other practitioners. Zhang Zhengwei was practicing the "Holding the Wheel above the Head" position. Gao Ding beat Zhang Zhengwei's ribs, back and arms using the spiked baton and shouted, "Raise your hands higher." Zhang Zhengwei's arms hurt so much that he couldn't hold them up any longer. I shouted at them, "You are the law enforcers, but you are violating the law. We are just practicing. We are innocent." The guards finally stopped the violence.

They then called on three or four practitioners "to have a talk." The practitioners on the drill ground were still practicing. Although in great pain, I continued to practice "Holding the Wheel above the Head." The guards continued to urge Yan Rongzhi to beat me. He pulled my arms down suddenly and struck my liver area with his knee. Immediately I fell and had a hard time breathing. The guards then finally stopped when they saw the severity of our injuries. Eight practitioners were doing exercises together, including Zhang Zhengwei, Chen Jiawu, Wang Zhengrong, Yang Bin, and others.

The next morning I was coughing hard when I got up and had blood in my mucus for a few days. I wasn't able to stand up straight. The pain lasted for more than a month. We were locked in a cell, and the guards never gave me any treatment.

    (3) Shouting "Falun Dafa is good" and practicing "Holding the Wheel above the Head"

Since September 18, 2001 we had protested the persecution and refused to comply with their rules. We refused to do things like singing, answering roll call and wearing uniforms. Our protest lasted until December 9. In December, the evil persecution worsened suddenly.

Each morning after we got food, everyone had to gather at the drill ground and line up. Falun Gong practitioners were shouting out loud "Falun Dafa is good" and practiced the "Holding the Wheel above the Head" exercise. The inmates who watched us would pull our hands down or hit us , but most of the inmates were just going through the motions at that point. Because we kept doing this everyday, the inmates and guards got used to it. Eventually the guards just asked the inmates to force us to run around the drill ground. We refused to wear uniforms and only wore our own clothes. Some practitioners even dumped the uniforms into the garbage can.

    (4) New round of suppression

On November 23, 2001, the National Justice Department convened a meeting in Hainan Province and got the order to intensify the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. The Propaganda Department of the Central CCP Committee sent a representative there to convey this order.

On December 16, they started the new campaign. All of a sudden they increased the number of guards to over 30, most of which came from different teams in the Xishanping Labor Camp. All of these new guards were vicious. The other guards who weren't performing up to the enforcers' expectations were transferred. Around 70 practitioners were there at the time. One guard was generally assigned to supervise three practitioners. The prisoners were also increased from more than 100 to more than 200, most of which were strong men selected from different teams. The evildoers investigated the practitioners' files, including their behavior logs and family and work history. They deployed a detailed plan of intensified persecution. Three to four prisoners were assigned to monitor each practitioner.

A new round of persecution started. All of our personal belongs were collected and displayed on the drill ground. The guards ordered the drug addicts to help them conduct a search. Team leader Liu Hua divided us into four groups. All of the cellmates were regrouped. All of the group leaders in the cells were reassigned. The group leaders they thought weren't up to their expectations had their position revoked. Every group had three or four guards, one of them being the group leader.

The four groups were "Loose Control Group" (guards Sun Ping, Wang Zhaohui, Lu Changzhang, etc.), "General Control Group" (guards Huang Yong, Chen Jianping, Wang Jin and others.), "Strict Control Group" (guards Xiao Xingming, Wang Chen and others) and the "Agricultural Group" (guards Zhou Benzhong).

On December 20, 2001, I was sent to the "Strict Control Group." Meals there consisted of less than 0.1 kg of food, approximately 2 oz. The guards called that "Hunger Therapeutics." They would rather have food left over than give it to us. They punished us by making us stand from 6:00 in the morning to 1:00 at night. Standing this long made our feet and legs swell up. The three or four prisoners watching me forced me to squat in a military posture several times, lasting almost one hour each time. They forced me to put my hands behind my back and alternately stand and squat 300 times. They also forced me to listen to the reading of books that slandered Falun Gong.

There were several books that slandered Falun Gong. Some of them were edited and printed in Chongqing City. One of them was not meant for the cell inmates, but for the police. It introduced methods on how to "reform" Falun Gong practitioners by force and brainwashing. They began with psychology studies, to determine how firmly the practitioners believed in Falun Gong and how practitioners accepted and understood Falun Gong. Then they developed strategies to make "breakthroughs." When these evildoing people tried to have conversations with practitioners, they had a hidden agenda and purpose each time.

Right before I was released, I was transferred to the Strict Control Group at Xishanping. Prior to the beginning of 2002, the practitioners whose terms had expired were always first transferred to the Strict Control Group and then the local authorities took them back. My two-year term was up on February 28, 2002. Zeng Zhiping from the Tongnan County and Zitong Township CCP committee Secretary Liu took me back.

After I left that evil place, the persecution there worsened. In the Strict Control Group, they no longer just used standing or squatting as punishment. They often acted in groups and viciously beat and kicked Falun Gong practitioners. The practitioners who didn't want to give up their belief were often beaten until they passed out.

The two years of savage beatings and other abuses and mental torment at the hands of common prisoners and the guards in Xinshanping gave me a broken nose, broken front teeth and severe injuries to my chest, ribs and internal organs. I was so weak and thin. But even in that condition, after my release from the forced labor camp I was still sent to the Tongnan Detention Center for an indefinite period of incarceration.

Practitioner Jin Sheng from Daqing City Ruthlessly Tortured

Mr. Jin Sheng, from Daqing City, began practicing Falun Gong in May 2000. When the Jiang regime began its persecution of Falun Gong, his faith in Teacher and Falun Gong never wavered. Near the end of 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and was arrested for clarifying the facts about the persecution. In prison, because he refused to cooperate with the evil, he was brutally tortured by the police from Beijing, Zhaozhou, and Daqing City.

Stripped naked, forced to stand barefoot in the snow, doused with cold water and beaten

Near the end of 2000, Mr. Jin Sheng went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested. At the police station, they stripped him naked, conducted a body search and pushed him into a prison cell, where they beat him. A prisoner then opened the door to let in the cold outside air while he was forced to stand on the concrete floor. Still naked, Mr. Jin shivered as the chilly northern wind blew at him. The prisoners would also beat him when he lost control of his bladder. Although he was tortured so inhumanely, he still refused to tell the police his name or address when they interrogated him that night. As a result, they removed his shoes and forced him to stand barefoot in the snow while they poured cold water over his entire body.

After they used wooden sticks to beat him, the police did not allow Mr. Jin to go to sleep. They also tried to coerce him to curse Teacher and Falun Gong. When he refused to do so, they slapped him. He was interrogated 26 times altogether. After the police finally found out his address, they contacted the Daqing liaison office in Beijing.

Handcuffed to a bedpost for seven days in the Daqing liaison office in Beijing

The police transferred him to the Daqing liaison office in Beijing and handcuffed him to a stool. They body-searched him and confiscated 300 yuan. At the Daqing branch, Mr. Jin was handcuffed to a bedpost for seven days, except when he was allowed to eat. They cuffed his hands to the post at the head of a bed and his feet to the end of the bed. He had to use a pot when he needed to urinate. Later, he was again transferred to the Qinggang County police. Before he was taken to Qinggang, the police used two wooden sticks and tied them to his legs so he couldn't bend them. As a result, he could only walk with a limp. Also, both of his thumbs were tightly tied to his belt with a fine cord. He was detained at Qinggang for two months and released after his family paid a fine.

Brutally beaten and tortured by Sun Biao, Head of Xingshan Police Station, and prison guard Wang Zhong from Zhaozhou Detention Center

On the evening of February 24, 2002, Mr. Jin and another practitioner, Liu Zhucai, were arrested after someone reported them to the police when they distributed truth-clarifying pamphlets in Zhaozhou, Xingshan County. Sun Biao, head of the Xingshan County Police Station, severely beat both of them and then sent them to the Zhaozhou Public Security Bureau. While he was being interrogated, Mr. Jin was beaten by a policeman, causing his face to swell up. Later, both practitioners were taken to a detention center.

After prison guard Wang Zhong saw Mr. Jin doing the Falun Gong exercises, he ordered the prisoners to put shackles on Mr. Jin. He also said, "You take off your pants, lie on your stomach and let me whip you 30 times. If you don't utter a sound, I'll let you do the exercises." After Wang finished beating him, he told the prisoners to take the shackles off. A few days later, Wang Zhong saw Mr. Jin doing the exercises again, and ordered prisoners to put shackles on him. He then forced Mr. Jin to walk in the passageway and say out loud that he was sentenced to five years of prison because he practiced Falun Gong. After a while, Wang Zhong started to whip him. While whipping Mr. Jin, he said, "I'll peel your skin off and glue it on the wall." Mr. Jin was put in shackles for 15 days. Wang told the prisoners only to take off the shackles if Mr. Jin does not do the Falun Gong exercises. One day when Wang saw that Mr. Jin wasn't shackled, he asked the prisoners, "Who took the shackles off? Does he still do the exercises?" Mr. Jin told him that he still did the exercises. Wang became angry and beat him, ordering the prisoners to clamp his neck with a torture device.

Brutally beaten, burned with cigarette butts, sexually abused, and tortured at Daqing Prison

On August 6, 2000, Mr. Jin was sent to the Daqing Prison. For refusing to memorize prison regulations, he was forced to stand every day while teams of four prisoners took turn watching him stand all night.

On September 4, Mr. Jin was moved to the seventh group. Several prisoners stripped him naked and poured water over him that evening. Prisoner Han Yang took him to the restroom and beat him until midnight. They didn't give him any food the following day. Prisoner Jiang Zhangyou used broken glass and a broken bottle to threaten him and forced him to read their slanderous books. If he refused, several prisoners would forcibly twist his arm. They also forced him to raise his arms, and if he lowered them, they'd burn him with lit cigarettes. Afterwards, his arms were covered with burn wounds. The prison guards didn't care if the prisoners tortured him.

Mr. Jin often fell to the ground because they wouldn't let him sleep. Prisoners Zhang Jinliang, Zhang Siuzhi, Li Dawei, and Wang Xiyou beat him up whenever they felt like it. One time, prisoner Shu Jingang used his hand to hit Mr. Jin's throat, so that he had difficulty eating for a long time. Every day, the prisoners would hold him onto the floor and force his legs apart. He perspired so much that it wet a patch of floor. If he didn't do it, Fan Laoshan would apply the so called "Jiamusi Great Spread" (a torture method) that made it difficult for him to breathe, or would kick him on the chest, causing so much pain that he rolled over on the floor. Jiang Zhangyou led several prisoners to hold Mr. Jin's hands and hit his palms with a plank until they swelled up. They would then beat his leg. When Mr. Jin refused to wear a prison uniform, Fan Laoshan would beat him harshly.

During the 2003 SARS epidemic, Falun Gong practitioners went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. One day, the Shuangzi police took Mr. Jin to the discipline room and beat him up ruthlessly. Xiang Zhenchun told a prisoner to stamp "prisoner" on his clothes. They even stamped his undergarments. Mr. Jin tore off his clothing to protest.

On March 24, 2004, the prison guards used their usual trick of sleep deprivation to punish practitioners. Li Fengjiang and Wang Hailong would beat Mr. Jin severely when he refused to wear prison clothes. Prisoner Xue Weiping kicked him on the chest. Many prisoners then forced the prison uniform onto him. Li Fengjiang shouted, "We can deal with Falun Gong in any way we want. If they refuse to be reformed, we'll cremate their dead bodies."

On March 26, Song Jinlong told prisoners to strip off Mr. Jin's clothes and tie him to a wooden board. Then, they put him on the restroom floor and opened the windows. Mr. Jin could not endure the chilly wind. Prisoners Xue Weiping and Jiang Zhongli then sprayed cold water from a faucet on his body and face that he could hardly breathe and almost fainted. Guo Hui beat him with a hose. Zhang Renbo used a toothbrush to poke his toenails until they almost came off. He Zhiqiang trampled on Mr. Jin's head. After he shouted out, "Teacher saves me!" they stuffed a dirty sock into his mouth to stop him from shouting. Seeing that Mr. Jin was just standing there, Song Jinlong wasn't satisfied and told the prisoners to, "Stomp on him." Guo Tonghua said viciously, "It seems impossible to beat you to death. We may be able to beat you to death by accident." Finally, they connected a water hose to his penis. It wasn't known when they removed the hose. Afterwards, several prisoners carried him to the study room. Prisoner Yang Qijian slapped his face as soon as they got there. They then forced him to write answers to some tests, but he refused.

That night, they took him out of his bed and dragged him to the study room again without any clothes on. They opened the window and held him down in front of it. When he struggled to resist, they twisted his arms and pushed him down on the floor. Several of them sat on him. After that, they made him stand there. The prison guards formed a team of four prisoners to take turns torturing Mr. Jin.

Mr. Jin's feet became so swollen from standing for a long period of time that he couldn't even take off his pants. He also had many open wounds on his legs.

Towards the end of 2004, guard Li Fengjiang ordered prisoners to drag Mr. Jin to the learning room for surveillance.

On April 30, 2004, during jail cleaning, guard Li Tie inspected Mr. Jin's pillowcase and took out all of his clothes. After the inspection was over, Mr. Jin put his things back inside the pillowcase but Li scattered everything again. He forbade Mr. Jin to wear his own clothes. He told him to wear the prison uniform and then tore off a piece of Mr. Jin's clothing. When Mr. Jin protested the insult and harassment, the prison guards beat him with rubber batons and took him to a small cell. Mr. Jin shouted, "Falun Dafa is good!" all the way to the small cell. They stuffed his mouth with a cloth, but he spat it out and continued shouting. They immediately tied him up in a metal chair when they got to the cell.

Mr. Jin went on a hunger strike to protest the unjust treatment of Falun Gong practitioners. He was locked to the metal chair for 12 consecutive days and had to relieve himself on the chair during that time. His hands and feet became numb and cold in the freezing cell. They force-fed him three times. The stuff they tried to feed him poured all over his body when they couldn't pour it in. Mr. Jin asked the guard to unlock him so he could change clothes, but was refused. After 12 days, Li Fengjiang went to the cell to let him change into the prison uniform. Mr. Jin, however, refused to wear it. As a result, they let him out of the small cell three days later.

For more than three years, Mr. Jin Sheng has suffered from all kinds of cruel tortures. As a result, his current health condition is poor and his life is in grave danger.

Mr. Jin's family members have asked to see him many times and were refused every time.

610 Office Arrests Associate Professor at Hunan Normal University

On June 6, 2005, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yang Guoxian, an associate professor from Hunan Normal University, was arrested by members of the 610 Office. 40 days later, Yang managed to escape.

On the afternoon of June 6, 2005, people from his local Community Management Committee phoned Yang, telling him that they wanted him to come over. Soon after Yang walked out of his home, ten people surrounded him. With much effort, they pushed Yang into a car parked on the roadside and then drove away. Inside the car, two people pushed his arms down very hard so that Yang could not resist. During the arrest, Yang had been resisting strongly. Under the violent circumstances, Yang's right leg was injured and immobilized.

They took Mr. Yang to the notorious Changsha City Laodaohe Brainwashing Center. Inside the Center, dozens of staff from the 610 Offices of Changsha City, Yueli District Office, from the Normal University, and from the local community where Yang came from, were milling around and talking amongst themselves. That same night, Yang was carried into a room in the center. There were three beds in the room, one for Falun Gong practitioners, and the other two for two collaborators who watched Falun Gong practitioners around the clock.

The Changsha City Laodaohe Brainwashing Center cost the local 610 Office over 10 million yuan to build and is designated for detaining and brainwashing practitioners. Every practitioner has his/her own room, and all their activities are confined within this room. There are iron railings outside every room, and they are separated from each other. At the entrance of every building is a metal fence. The buildings inside the brainwashing center are surrounded by barbed wire and the only entrance to the brainwashing center has a steel door, where guards are on duty around the clock.

That same evening, Yang's right leg swelled up badly and his ankle was dislocated. He could not relieve himself. Due to his serious condition, he was sent to the Changsha City Hospital the next day, where a doctor diagnosed him with a broken right leg. There were bone fragments left in his joints, and the ligament in his right leg was seriously damaged. His femur was most likely injured, and that caused difficulty in his normal bodily functions. He needed treatment in hospital.

In order to cover up their crime, the staff of the 610 Office made arrangements to send Yang to a ward on a higher level of the building in the hospital. During his hospital stay, four members from the 610 Office watched him around the clock, and they allowed only Yang's wife to visit him. The rest of his family and friends could not visit unless they had permission from the 610 Office in Hunan Normal University. They also covered up his situation, interfered with hospital treatment, and attempted to stop the doctor from speaking to Yang. Meanwhile, they coerced Yang into writing a statement to release them from any liability. When Yang's condition became a little bit better, the staff of the 610 office told him that they would send him back to the brainwashing center. They claimed that Yang could receive the same treatment in the center.

Local practitioners exposed the persecution of Yang and the responsible parties on the Minghui/Clearwisdom website. That news spread among local practitioners quickly. Practitioners from other neighboring cities compiled Yang's case into their local Minghui Digest and distributed it to the public. The persecutors received phone calls from overseas practitioners, and they were terrified. Under the collective support of practitioners from different areas, forty days after Yang's arrest, even though he was being monitored closely, Yang walked away from the hospital.

The methods used by the 610 office for the arrest were secretive and deceptive. Members of Security Department in Yang's university denied that they received any notice in advance. It was said by the insiders that this arrest was planned by the Changsha City 610 Office and executed by the Changsha City Luli District 610 Office. The Hunan Normal University 610 office played a role of active cooperation and providing assistance. It also supplied money and man power. People from Yang's local Community Management Committee participated as well. After Yang Guoxian managed to escape, members of the local 610 Office often went to Yang's home to harass his family.

This arrest caused quite a stir at Hunan City Normal University. On that day, many people witnessed the whole violent scene, and news spread very quickly. A few days later, when they learned that Yang Guoxian's leg was broken, many people were very sympathetic to his case and angry at the police. Some did not know the truth before, and had the opportunity to learn about the evil nature of the CCP.

Handicapped Falun Gong Practitioner Zhang Aimin's Home Ransacked Twice by Jilin City Police

Ms. Zhang Aimin is 43 years old. She is a handicapped worker for the Jilin West Railroad Section (Jilin Division of the Shenyang Railroad Bureau, National Railroad Department) who has lost both of her legs.

Zhang Aimin started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. Before that her personality tended to be suspicious and angry. She had suffered from heart disease, hepatitis B, pancreatitis, migraines, lower back aches, neck problems, and bursitis in the shoulder. Three of her fingers would go numb when she tried to use them, for example while writing or doing needlework. In her back she felt heaviness, coldness and aches all year long. During seasonal changes, her legs would ache several days in advance. When she became angry, she would stay away from home all day and all night. After starting practicing Falun Gong, all of the illnesses in her body and problems in her mind went away. Being someone who does not believe in anybody except for herself, these changes enabled her to more diligently learn the principle of Falun Gong and practice the exercises.

In 1999, when the persecution of Falun Gong began, Zhang Aimin was targeted and her home was ransacked.

At around midnight on September 15, 2003, Zhang Aimin was awakened by shouting. It was not clear how the police broke in. A woman among them claimed she was from the city's 610 Office. Later it became known that her name was Jin Yu. Zhang Aimin struggled, but she was held down by three or four men. Later it was discovered that these men were from the Yan'an Street Police Station. One of the perpetrators was a young man called Xiao Ning. All of them were in plain clothes.

The following is the list of property that was confiscated:

Computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, a pair of speakers
Canon laser black & white printer, 3 original drums, 2 replacement drums, 6 boards
    Two boxes of printer paper
Three boxes of toner (about 8-10 bottles in each box)
Internet cards, one worth 50 yuan and one worth 100 yuan
Miscellaneous items valued at about 7000 yuan
All of her Falun Gong books and tapes, CDs, and truth-clarification VCDs

At around 8 am on July 25, 2005, Zhang Aimin went to the Jilin Railroad Xishan Detention Center. At the time, there was no guard at the gate, so Zhang Aimin put truth-clarification flyers on the cars parked in the yard. Then some people approached her, so Zhang Aimin asked whether there were practitioners being detained there. The person said there were a few without giving any names, and also gave Zhang a phone number. Another person pretended to talk about Falun Gong with her, but in reality they were just stalling until the police could come.

Later, four or five policemen carried her into a vehicle and put her wheelchair into another vehicle. Xiao Tian from Zhang's work unit led the way to Zhang's home. The police broke open the door and ransacked the home. They confiscated all of Zhang Aimin's possessions that could help clarify the truth about Falun Gong.

    The taken property included:

Qi Xi brand computer: PC, monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, CDR drive

External 80G/7200 RPM hard drive containing Falun Gong materials

    Scanner

3 Printers: Laser HP1010, 4 original drums, 3 bottles of toner; Canon ip1000 color jet, 3 color ink cartridges, 3 black ink cartridges; Epson C43 color jet, original ink set: 2 color cartridges, 3 black cartridges.

4 Bolang ebooks; one electric stapler and one electronic book binder, 2 packages of high quality copy paper

4 boxes of blank CDR's, more than 30 CDs, more than 20 truth-clarification CD masters; a copy of the Dalian Lecture on CD

Audio tapes: Lecture series in Dalian, Guangzhou, Jinan, exercise music, songs, and others, at least 40 tapes and more than 40 blank tapes

More than 50 Falun Gong books

Three copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Chinese Communist Party

More than 400 copies of the title page for the Nine Commentaries on the Chinese Communist Party

That same day, Zhang Aimin went to the Railroad Police Department to ask for her books back, but they just pushed her away.

Because of Zhang's health condition, the police did not persecute her any further, but several times they confiscated her property.

    (1) In the "small cell" torture, the detainee is locked alone in a very small cell. The guards handcuff the victim behind his or her back in a fixed position, in which the practitioners can neither move nor lie down. The small cell is very damp with minimal lighting. Detainees must urinate and defecate in the cell. Only half a regular meal is served to detainees locked in a small cell during the daytime. During the night, rats move freely through the cells. The stench is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.
