  • Persecution Intensified as Hundreds of Practitioners at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp Declare Their Resolve to Continue Practicing Falun Gong

At the end of 2004, most illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp submitted a statement to the center, denouncing the center's "transformation" tactics and declaring null and void the previous statement they signed under high pressure to give up the practice of Falun Gong. The detention center was very frightened and carried out a policy of "Separate Management" to persecute the practitioners more severely.

The Masanjia Forced Labor Camp is a concentration camp used to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. The guards there randomly bring steadfast practitioners into small wards and brutally torture them, using methods including: fierce beatings, handcuffing practitioners to metal chairs for 24 hours, leaving the windows open in freezing winter temperatures which causes injury and disability, putting high-volume loudspeakers beside practitioner's ears, sleep deprivation, and not allowing practitioners to use the toilet more than 2 or 3 times per day.

Huang Haiyan, a guard (female), once beat Falun Gong practitioners with a steel rod. The practitioners had lumps all over their heads as a result. Even though the evil is so vicious, it could not move the steadfast practitioners.

At the end of 2004, most Falun Gong practitioners submitted a statement to the center, condemning the brutal "transformation" attempts and declaring null and void the previous statement they signed under high pressure to give up the practice of Falun Gong. They refused to participate in hard labor. With improved understanding of Falun Gong principles, practitioners came to realize that they needed to completely negate the persecution and not even wear the detention center uniforms. Their righteous thoughts and actions frightened the authorities. The guards decided to employ new methods - "Separate Management" - and divided the more than 600 practitioners in the detention center into three large teams. About 130 people were put in the "Severe Management" team, and about 200 people were put in the "Normal Management" team. These two teams were for determined practitioners. The remaining 200 people put in the "Loose Management" team were practitioners who had been brainwashed and given up Falun Gong.

Determined practitioners under "Severe Management" are given only corn flour buns to eat. They are monitored 24 hours a day, including the time they spend using the toilet. They only have five minutes to wash and brush their teeth, and are not allowed to dry their clothes outdoors. They sleep in a 40-square-meter room, where an 80-watt light bulb is on all through the night. During the daytime, the TV and radio are played constantly at high volume. The practitioners' pens and paper are all taken away. The guards also conduct brutal force-feedings on practitioners who go on hunger strike to protest the persecution. Four policemen will stand on the practitioner's arms and legs, force a tube into the practitioner's nose, and administer force-feeding with corn flour porridge saturated with salt.

Details of How Falun Gong Practitioner Wang Hongde Was Persecuted to Death

Falun Gong practitioner Wang Hongde died as a result of persecution at the Daqing City's Hongweixing Prison on May 14, 2005.

Mr. Wang Hongde, 56, was an employee of the Xinhua Power Generation Plant in Datong District, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. After the persecution started in July 1999, Mr. Wang persisted in his belief. The Datong District police unlawfully detained him twice, for fifteen days each time, in March 2000 and February 2001. After being released from the second detention, Mr. Wang decided to leave his hometown.

In the spring of 2001, Mr. Wang invested over 200,000 yuan planting seedlings and cactus in Beijing and Tangshan. On April 26, 2002, staff from the Yutian County Police Department arrested Mr. Wang and ransacked his home in Tangshan City. They found 11,000 yuan and confiscated it, calling it a "fine." The over two hundred thousand yuan investment was completely lost, which caused Wang Hongde extensive mental trauma.

Because Mr. Wang refused to give up his belief in Falun Gong, the persecutors sentenced him to a five-year prison term. On August 16, 2003, Mr. Wang was sent to the Hongweixing Prison in Daqing City.

On the first day, some training group guards beat and tortured Mr. Wang with leather belts. His hands were swollen, his palms were bleeding, and half of a tooth in his upper-right jaw was broken off. During the detention, staff from the prison's "Education Section" (610 Office) also forced him to watch Falun Gong-slandering video programs. They tried to brainwash him, and mentally tormented him. He was not permitted to sleep before twelve midnight.

Around December 2002, Mr. Wang suffered a heart attack as a result of the torture, and fell into a coma. He was then diagnosed with severe heart disease (mitral stenosis and third degree heart failure).

When his family heard about this they went to Daqing Prison to visit him, but prison Chief Wang Yingjie didn't allow the visit, no matter what. His reason is that Wang Hongde didn't write the Three Statements. With the family's persistent and firm requests, Wang Yingjie finally agreed reluctantly, but only with the condition that the family members would help his efforts to reform Wang Hongde. He sent Guo Chuntang from the 610 Office to accompany them (monitoring).

When the family visited him, not only did they not help reform Wang Hongde, but even gave him support and encouragement. Guo Chuntang was furious with the family and said, "Don't expect to see Wang Hongde again. You didn't even say one word telling him to repent." Since then it was even harder to visit Wang Hongde. They had to have proof from their local police that these family members were not Falun Gong practitioners.

In the meantime, the prison was required to raise their "reformation rate," so Wang Hongde's persecution worsened. He was in the prison hospital by then. Hospital director Huang often put Wang Hongde under duress to write the "Three Statements" and threatened that if he didn't write them he would be kicked out of the hospital. When another director named Gao Qing received truth-clarification calls from Falun Gong practitioners he rampantly cursed Wang Hongde and forced him to tell who the caller was. Due to the mental pressure Wang Hongde's situation worsened each day. He had a hard time breathing, and had whole-body edema. Mr. Wang was at the brink of death as a result of being tortured in prison.

The family was finally able to convince the officials to send Wang Hongde to a conventional hospital. At first, prison chief Wang Yingjie didn't agree and spoke rudely to the family. Afterwards the officials were worried about being held liable for his death, and then agreed to send Wang Hongde to the Fourth Hospital of Daqing.

On January 15, 2003, Wang Hongde went to the Fourth Hospital in heavy handcuffs and shackles. The checkup was performed while he wore the handcuffs and shackles. The final diagnosis was rheumatic heart disease, combined valve disease, high aortal pressure, mitral stenosis, tricuspid regurgitation, and fourth degree heart failure.

The doctor said that this patient was at risk of losing his life at any time and had to be kept in the hospital to be rescued. Zhu Rui, prison division leader didn't agree, and was firm in wanting to take Wang Hongde back.

Wang's family insisted on having Wang Hongde remain in the hospital. Otherwise, they would sue the prison. On January 16, 2003, the decision was made that Wang Hongde would stay at the hospital and remain there for 14 days. But the arrangement was odd.

During his stay in the hospital, the prison was trying everything to make life difficult for the family. For example: 1.Two policemen in three shifts were assigned to them. All the officers' food, lodging and expenses were charged to the family. 2. They didn't allow the family to visit. 3. Every night, Wang Hongde had to be returned to the prison and sent back to the hospital the next morning. Because the family strongly opposed this, the officials didn't do it every day.

Because Wang Hongde had fourth degree heart failure, he was eligible to obtain medical parole. On January 24, 2003 the family officially submitted applications for medical parole to the Hongweixing Prison. Prison chief Wang Yingjie not only didn't release Wang Hongde, but he also imposed a tight information blockade, intensified the persecution, and didn't permit family visits.

Wang Hongde's mother is over 70 years old. She has high blood pressure. When she heard that her son was suffering at the prison and was at risk of losing his life she traveled to the prison from far away and requested medical parole for her son.

In the morning on August 25, 2004, Wang Hongde's mother arrived at the Daqing Prison office to look for prison chief Wang Yingjie, who didn't let her enter the office. Wang Hongde's mother said, "It wasn't easy for me to come here from far away. Why don't you let me in? You made my son sick. Why can I not talk with you?" Wang Yingjie said he needed to attend a meeting and walked out of the office. Wang's mother followed him to the meeting room, asking him to give her an answer. Wang Yingjie called officers from the Hongweixing Police Station. They dragged Wang's mother from the third floor to a police car, then brought her to Hongweixing Police Station. The police interrogated her, and charged her with appealing for Falun Gong.

For two years Wang's family made continuous efforts requesting medical parole, but the prison always deceived the family with lame excuses, and gave the family the run-around. The prison division referred it to the prison hospital, and they in turn referred the matter back to the division. The division then referred it to the prison chief. Prison chief Wang Yingjie said, "We would rather see a Falun Gong practitioner die here than release him or her for medical treatment."

Such mental torment worsened Wang Hongde's illness. If he didn't feel good, a doctor would give him a shot of heart medicine. That is the only treatment the hospital supplied! When he showed a little improvement he was sent back to the prison ward. After a few days in the prison ward the illness got worse. He was then sent back to the prison hospital, back and forth. This happened again and again. During one day this actually happened three times, and in this manner Wang Hongde's health deteriorated rapidly.

On February 13, 2005, at around 2:00 p.m., Wang's family received a phone call from the Third Prison Division, telling them to go to the Fourth Daqing Hospital because Wang Hongde's illness had worsened. At around 3:00 p.m., Wang's family arrived at the emergency room. Wang Hongde was being checked and given an electro- cardiogram. The doctor said, "He is at great risk. His heart rate is over 160. He could die at any time. His illness is so severe. Why didn't you send him here earlier? He has to be admitted to the hospital now."

Prison policeman Zhu Rui and prison hospital director Gao asked the doctors if they could just subscribe some medicine for Wang Hongde instead of having him stay in the hospital. The doctor said, "The patient's heart could stop at any minute. I'm only considering this from the patient's perspective. I'll leave it up to you." Zhu Rui had to call the prison and the officials finally agreed to keep Wang Hongde at the emergency room in the first patient section. Wang Hongde's heart rate was 160-200 per minute and his whole body was swollen. He couldn't move about, so he had to relieve himself on the bed. He also had a hard time breathing. The doctor in charge of the case said, "He could die at any moment. The family should be prepared."

Wang Hongde was still forced to wear the heavy shackles and handcuffs. Wang's family pleaded several times for removal of the shackles, but no one listened. With the disease having worsened, in addition to the heavy torture implements, Wang had no choice but to relieve himself in his pants, which didn't always get cleaned up right away. Leaving the hospital after several days revealed decay on his upper thighs and leg muscles.

At around 8:00 a.m. on February 27, 2005, prison policeman Zhu Rui went to the Fourth Hospital to get Wang Hongde out. Without agreement from the family or the patient, he processed all the release paperwork.

At the time, Wang Hongde's condition was not good enough to be released from the hospital. He had only experienced a slight improvement. The doctor said this kind of illness needs to be adjusted to a stable condition or it would recur frequently, getting worse each time he has a relapse, and that he would eventually lose the chance of being treated successfully.

On February 25, 2005, Wang Hongde's family reached out to prison division leader Zhu and petitioned him to allow Wang Hongde to continue receiving hospital treatment. Zhu said he didn't have to the power to make that decision, and told Wang's family to go to the prison chief to start anew on the process. The family made hurried attempts for three days without any results. The prison consistently used the same technique, passing responsibility from one group to another.

Between February 22 and April 30, due to the abrupt cessation of treatment, several recurrences of the illness, and not getting immediate treatment, Wang Hongde lost his chance to be treated.

Prison chief Wang Yingjie and other officials delayed the medical application process that had begun on January 24, 2003 and didn't complete it until April 20, 2005.

On May 14, 2005, fifteen days after his release, Mr. Wang passed away as a result of the persecution.

UN Investigates Torture Suffered by Professor Wu Xiaohua

Professor Wu Xiaohua's case, submitted by the Falun Gong Human Rights Working Group, has drawn international attention. The case of Professor Wu has also been taken on by the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (the UN Working Group). Professor Wu was one of victims whom the Working Group sought to interview during its visit to China last September. However, the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) rebuffed all attempts, did not provide information regarding her situation at that time, or allow contact between the UN Working Group and Ms. Wu.

Reports of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention of the United Nations on Professor Wu Xiaohua:

Wu Xiaohua, female, 47 years old, an associate professor of the Environmental Art Department at Anhui Civil Construction Engineering College at Hefei city, Anhui province, was reportedly placed under house arrest in October 2001, during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit held in Shanghai. Later, she was sent to a labor camp for women. She was allegedly tortured at the camp in a number of ways, including having her mouth stuffed with rags and tissues soaked in urine and menstrual blood. In mid-October 2001, on the tenth day of a hunger strike she had initiated to protest her detention, she was sent to the No. 4 People's Hospital at Hefei city, Anhui province. At the hospital she was stripped of her clothes and shocked with electric needles and an electric baton all over her body. Dr. Li, a medical doctor, tortured her with electric shocks until she became unconscious. She was also forcibly given injections and force-fed drugs. It was further reported that Professor Wu was first arrested in December of 1999 for appealing in Beijing to the Government to put an end to its persecution of Falun Gong. She was allegedly tortured at the Anhui Female Detention Centre in Anhui province. Later she was transferred to the No. 4 People's Hospital of Hefei city where she also was tortured, including being locked in a bathhouse full of mosquitoes for one night and forced to use a pigpen full of spider webs as a toilet. At the end of April 2001, she was again arrested.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) continued to persecute Ms. Wu. Late in April 2003, Ms. Wu Xiaohua completed her 18-month term in a forced labor camp. Because she refused to give up practicing Falun Gong, her term was extended for two months. Ms. Wu went on a hunger strike to oppose the extension, and the police ordered other detainees to brutally force-feed her. To accomplish this, four of her teeth were extracted. She experienced brutal torture in the forced labor camp, as well as in the mental hospital, which left her struggling for survival, and she was on the verge of death several times. Long-term inhuman persecution made her hair almost totally white and she became extremely weak. As a result, Ms. Wu was released on probation on May 13, 2003.

After her release, she continued her efforts to expose the facts of the persecution. She was arrested twice in other cities after people reported her activities to the authorities. Each time, she was released immediately. On the night of November 16, 2003, Ms. Wu was arrested again after being reported for exposing the facts; her arm was wounded during the arrest. She was detained in the Second Detention Center in Hefei City, Anhui Province.

Right after she was sent to the labor camp, she was cuffed onto a big board for nine consecutive days. Ms. Wu started a hunger strike to protest the detention and persecution. She had no bowel movement for over 50 days and was reduced to skin and bones. She was severely emaciated when she was finally bailed out of the labor camp.

    Conclusion of the Working Group

In its reaction to the reply from the Government, the source states that the Government of China used "disruption of social order" as the pretext for detaining Zhong Bo, Liu Li, Wu Xiaohua, Gai Suzhi, Chen Gang, Zhang Wenfu, Liu Junhua, Zhang Jiuhai and Zhu Xiaofei. According to the source, the Government failed to name the specific offences with which they had been charged. The source notes how strange it is that people of different ages (from 25 to 62), different professions (workers, professors, retirees) and from different locations suddenly develop the same tendency to "disrupt social order", many even repeatedly. According to the source, Zhong Bo, Liu Li, Wu Xiaohua, Gai Suzhi, Chen Gang, Zhang Wenfu, Liu Junhua, Zhang Jiuhai and Zhu Xiaofei are all Falun Gong practitioners and were persecuted for exercising the freedom of belief guaranteed by China's Constitution. They were repeatedly detained and tortured for refusing to renounce Falun Gong.

The Working Group further observes that the Government has not denied that Chen Gang, Zhang Wenfu, Wu Xiaohua, Liu Junhua, Zhang Jiuhai and Zhu Xiaofei are Falun Gong practitioners, or that they were detained in connection with the practice of this discipline.

As there is no evidence that Falun Gong is a violent belief, as far as the cases under consideration are concerned, its free exercise should be protected by article 18 on freedom of belief and article 19 on freedom of opinion and expression of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Even though the sentence of re-education through labor is, as claimed by the Government, a more favorable measure, offering better possibilities to the person concerned than a prison sentence imposed by a court judgment, it still constitutes, in the opinion of the Working Group, administrative deprivation of liberty that may be arbitrary in character, as found by the Group in its deliberation 04 of 1993 (see E/CN.4/1993/24, chap. II).

In its report on its visit to China (E/CN.4/1998/44/Add.2, para. 95), the Working Group stated that the measure of re-education through labor should not be applied to any person exercising his or her fundamental freedoms as guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In the cases at hand, detention does constitute a coercive measure designed to undermine the freedom of those persons to adopt beliefs of their own choosing.

The Working Group therefore deems that these persons were prosecuted and sentenced to the administrative measure of re-education through labor, and therefore deprived of their liberty, mainly for exercising fundamental rights which are set out in articles 18 and 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: the right to freedom of conscience and religion (art. 18) and the right to freedom of opinion and expression (art. 19).

In the light of the foregoing, the Working Group issues the following opinion:

The detention of Chen Gang, Zhang Wenfu, Wu Xiaohua, Liu Junhua, Zhang Jiuhai and Zhu Xiaofei is arbitrary, being in contravention of articles 18 and 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and falls within category II of the categories applicable to the consideration of cases submitted to the Working Group.

Consequently, the Working Group requests the Government to take the necessary steps to remedy the situation of these persons and to bring it into conformity with the standards and principles set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and encourages it to ratify the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

Practitioners Endure Gruesome Torture from Inmates and Guards in the Heilongjiang Women's Prison

The following is a personal account of the cruel persecution that I suffered and witnessed in the Hegang No.2 Detention Center and in the Heilongjiang Women's Prison.

On the afternoon of April 21, 2002, four police officers arrested me at my mother's home and locked me up in the Hedong Branch of the Police Department. The next day, they transferred me to the No. 2 Detention Center. In just three days, all the prison cells were packed with Falun Gong practitioners, with each cell having fifty to sixty people. The authorities at the Hegang Branch aggressively arrested practitioners at will.

One day in May, an inmate named Yang Ying asked us if we would continue to practice Falun Gong. The answer was a unanimous, "Yes." Yang quickly reported to the police officers of the prison that we did not want to give up our practice. The officers started to prepare all the instruments of torture. Because there were simply too many practitioners who were imprisoned there, the authorities did not have enough instruments of torture, so they borrowed some from other places and created some of their own. The instruments included eight meter long steel pipes with many steel loops on them. The officers instructed the inmates to lock each of our feet into one steel loop and then to handcuff our hands to it, making us unable to straighten our backs or stand up. We were locked up like this even when eating.

The cruelest form of torture was to prevent us from closing our eyes and sleeping. As soon as any of us closed our eyes, they poured cold water on us, slapped us with their shoes, or kicked us. Some practitioners' buttocks began to fester. The more they sat, the worse their buttocks festered. Eventually some of had three large holes open on their buttocks, with blood and pus oozing from them. When a practitioner in this state needed to use the toilet, three people had to help her up. The torture of preventing us from sleeping and constantly beating us lasted as long as seventeen days.

Later the authorities sentenced me to three years in prison and sent me to the Heilongjiang Women's Prison. On September 5, 2003, a few of us were sitting on the floor, when Zhang Chunhua and a few other policewomen, together with another male officer, came into our cell. Outraged, the male officer walked towards us and fiercely beat us with his fists. Then he kept kicking us with his leather shoes until he was exhausted. After the beatings, he grinned to the female officers, "Strip them and take away all of their clothes. Let's see how they can practice." Soon a few inmates came in with many ropes. They wrapped us up with the ropes and tied us on the beds.

The next day Officer Zhang Chunhua again came in, accompanied by a few inmates. The untied us and tried to take us out. We refused. They beat and kicked us, forcing us to go inside the gate of the male prison. All of us were stunned when we saw what was there! This was a well-prepared torture scene. Some Falun Gong practitioners were already there, running and being beaten. Circle by circle, male and female officers, together with the selected inmates, were all holding the instruments of torture including electric batons, water bottles and wooden planks. They were continuously beating the practitioners. They forced the practitioners to run inside their human circles so that they could torture them altogether. Running or not, the practitioners would suffer the same amount of torture. As a result, some practitioners refused to cooperate. They then handcuffed the practitioners around the windows so that the practitioners were forced to be on tiptoes. Then Wang Liang, a policeman, held the electric baton and started to shock the practitioners' faces. As some practitioners were exhausted and could not run any more, the officers forced them to squat down with their heads facing the wall. Some of us were in so much pain from the torture that we had to roll back and forth on the ground. There were a few officers standing near the torture scene, watching the torture and talking about it.

It was time for the prison officers to go home. They let us go back to our cells and asked the inmates to use ropes to tie us up. Then they left us on the cold, damp, hard floor. When it was mealtime, an inmate held a flour bun, walking by each of us, and letting us each have a couple of bites of the bun, as we were all tied up and unable to move. Then he fed us a little bit soup with salted vegetables. That was our lunch!

When it was bedtime, a few inmates watched us at the same time. They did not let us close our eyes. As soon as any of us closed our eyes, they beat us up with their shoes, wooden planks or their fists.

It was late autumn. The "room" we were staying in was actually a hallway that the prison authorities wanted to turn into a prison cell. Since no windows had been installed, cold air blew in onto the flesh of the practitioners who were sitting on the cold, damp, hard floor, wearing only light clothes. On top of all this the inmates were beating and cursing us. When other inmates passed by at night, these men quickly closed the door so that other inmates would not be able to see the horrendous scene. For the whole night, the inmates beat us. They kept us from sleeping until the next morning, when the prison officers came back to work. Holding the instruments of torture, they continued to beat us at will.

One early morning, a few inmates, holding the instruments of torture, started beating a few Falun Gong practitioners. In particular, they beat practitioner Ms. Wang Aihua so badly that her face was deformed. While beating the practitioners, the inmates asked them if they would sign a pledge of conversion. Ms. Zhou Chunzhi was the second practitioner who got beaten. After the beatings, Ms. Zhou's back could not move at all. As if this was not enough, they stripped off the pants of a few practitioners, including those of Ms. Xu Youxin. After that, they beat them with wooden planks and with their shoes and then tortured them further by putting them in salt water. One by one, they tortured us in order to "convert" us. Despite the torture, they were doomed to fail.

After eleven days of continuous torture, the practitioners were still as determined as before, and they failed to convert any of us. The prison authorities had to change their tactics by having some inmates curse and beat us. In particular, Officer Zhang Chunhua picked the two inmates Li Guihong and Zhu Yuhong (who have since been released from prison) to further persecute us.

In March of 2004 when the practitioners at the No. 8 prison district refused to cooperate, the authorities at the district cuffed the practitioners behind their backs against an iron bed.

No matter how cruel these people have been, they have failed to shake the righteous faith of Falun Gong practitioners.

Shanghai Practitioner Wu Aizhong and Others Facing Illegal Imprisonment

In January 2005, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wu Aizhong and his wife Zhong Hui, who resided in the Xujing area, Qingpu District, Shanghai, were illegally arrested. They have been detained at the Qingpu Detention Center and are facing sentencing.

Wu Aizhong was employed as a sales manager at the Fan Wu Trading Limited Company, a Korean corporation in Shanghai. He was highly regarded by his employer.

On January 8, 2005, Wu Aizhong was suddenly arrested from his office by the Xujing area Qingpu District police. His wife and their six year old son were also arrested on the same day. The reason for the arrests was that the couple had printed Falun Gong truth clarifying flyers. They have both been detained for an extended period of time at Qingpu Detention Center, where government officials and police have tried to "transform" both of them without success. Authorities also tried to sentence them in April. Three other Shanghai Falun Gong practitioners, Liu Quanzeng, Li Yuyan and Liu Lan, were also arrested at the same time.

On July 27, the Shanghai Qingpu Courthouse started hearing the Wu family's case. The couple proclaimed their innocence before the court's public prosecutor. They declared that they printed Falun Gong flyers with the purpose of letting people know the truth about Falun Gong. The court ruled that both of them had violated the illegal ban on Falun Gong, and said that making Falun Gong materials carries a sentence of 7 - 10 years in prison. The court appointed defense attorney openly admitted that he could only submit a guilty plea. The verdict is not yet known.

On July 27th, the couple's family members went to the hearing from out of town. Zhong Hui's mother and her six years old grandson, Wu Xingyu, were refused entrance because Zhong Hui's mother had forgotten to bring her ID with her. In frustration and sadness at the prospect of her daughter going to prison, she cried uncontrollably in front of the courthouse. At present, all four elderly parents of the couple find it very difficult and painful to accept the fact that their children may face imprisonment.

A warm family will soon be broken-up, leaving only elderly grandparents and a young child. How could the grandparents, at their advanced age, bear the pain of losing their children and seeing their grandson's support taken away? Why is it a crime for Falun Gong practitioners to tell people the facts? We hope that all kind-hearted people around the world will pay attention to this tragic case and similar ones happening everyday in China. Let the attention of kind people from around the world expose the evil and its atrocities - those who are suffering need the support of righteous people! Let all Falun Gong practitioners support them with righteous thoughts.

Resisting Brainwashing, Female Scientist Li Guiqin Had Two Front Teeth Knocked Out

Heilongjiang Province Agricultural Science Institute scientist Ms. Li Guiqin was unlawfully detained at Jiamusi Labor Camp. During her detention, the guards persecuted her using the "big handcuff from behind" torture method [a very brutal torture whereby one hand is pulled over the shoulder to the back, the other hand is twisted behind the back near the waist, and two hands are handcuffed]. On one occasion, guards beat her, knocking out two front teeth and then laughed at her.

On February 20, 2003, Jiamusi Labor Camp guards beat Ms. Li Guiqin and knocked out her front teeth.

Ms. Li Guiqin was abducted and taken to Jiamusi Labor Camp on October 30, 2002. On February 17, 2003, she was handcuffed for protesting the unlawful extension of her sentence. During the daytime, she was forced to sit on the floor in a north facing room on the second floor, handcuffed to a metal bed. At night, she was handcuffed in a storehouse on the third floor. She was also forced to stand from morning to 10 o'clock at night for four days continuously.

After 2 p.m. on February 20, 2003, in a classroom on the third floor, Outpost Section guard Wang Tiejun asked Ms. Li if she was being "reeducated through labor." Ms. Li answered that she was being forced. Wang Tiejun then kicked her face, head and body brutally with his leather shoes until she lost consciousness. When she woke up, she found two of her front teeth had been knocked out and the guards were laughing.

Guards then handcuffed Ms. Li and eleven other people to iron beds and shocked them with electric batons. Guard Mu Zhenjuan tried to force Falun Gong practitioners to acknowledge that they were being "reeducated through labor" and asked the guards to beat them. Practitioner Ms. Zhang Guiyan shouted "Don't hit people!" Guard Wang Tiejun kicked her and said, "I just want to beat people who talk too much like you." Ms. Zhang's face was black and blue for a dozen days afterwards. Policewoman Mu Zhenjuan claimed that they were being beaten because Ms. Gao Cuilan refused to shout CCP slogans. Ms. Cao Xiuxia always displayed strong resistance to the persecution. Ms. Li Siju refused to sign a "reeducation contract." Ms. Xu Xianghua read Falun Gong articles and Ms. Xie Xuepu recited Falun Gong articles.

Ms. Li was not allowed to rest her head until 8:10 p.m. She needed two rolls of toilet paper to wipe her bleeding nose. Among the practitioners who had been tortured, eight were around 50 years old, with the eldest being 57. Ms. Xu Xianghua had a heart attack from the torture. She was still handcuffed even after she lost consciousness. Ms. Chen Xiuling was handcuffed and deprived of sleep for five days and four nights because she refused to curse as requested by the guards.

Having lost so much blood, Ms. Li Guiqin could not brush her teeth nor eat. She was extremely weak and could barely walk after the torture and physical punishment. Police even prohibited her family from visiting her for over four months so that they wouldn't see how she had been disfigured.

One time, when an inspection team came to visit the labor camp, Ms. Li Guiqin was hidden inside a storehouse.

The persecution Ms. Li Guiqin suffered in Jiamusi Labor Camp has made her very weak and emaciated. She can barely even sit up for any length of time.

Exposing perpetrators at the No. 2 Forced Labor Camp in Shenzhen City who deceive Falun Gong practitioners

At the No. 2 Forced Labor Camp in Shenzhen City they founded a Special Control Committee to persecute Falun Gong practitioners, to force the practitioners to renounce Falun Gong. They use violence, lies, or twisted interpretations of Falun Gong teachings to deceive the practitioners. To conceal these atrocities from the public and from those who were deceived into giving up Falun Gong, they sent the practitioners to other places. The heads of the labor camp threatened the guards of the Special Control Committee, "If you can't reform the practitioners, you'll be laid off."
