  • Chen Yonglin Exposes Harassments of Falun Gong Practitioners Backed by Evidence

Former Chinese diplomat Chen Yonglin, who defected recently from the Chinese Consulate-general in Sydney, successively exposed inside stories about the Chinese Communist regime's extensive spy network that has infiltrated democratic western countries including Australia and persecuted and harassed Falun Gong practitioners inside and outside of China. Inspired by Chen's defection, former Chinese officials including Hao Fengjun (currently in Australia) and Han Guangsheng (currently in Canada) also denounced their membership in the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and further exposed the CCP's suppression and harassments of Falun Gong. These aroused the media and governments' attention of the Falun Gong issue. Thus this reporter interviewed several Falun Gong practitioners who shared their thoughts and feelings about Chen and Hao's expositions of the inside stories about the harassments encountered by practitioners.

Chen Yonglin Details Evidence of the Chinese Consulate's Intelligence Gathering

At the press conference on July 10, 2005, Mr. Chen Yonglin exposed to the media a sample of the information that spies and informants provide to the Chinese Consulate. Mr. Chen Yonglin revealed, "The Chinese Consulates and Embassy in Australia have two systems, one is diplomatic and another is intelligence system. Personnel in the intelligence system are funded independently. Many people don't consider it a wise way to use the Embassy or Consulate to gather intelligence information. But in reality, the CCP's important intelligence information is usually collected through Embassies and Consulates. Therefore, many Embassies and Consulates have intelligence systems. I was formerly the political consul in the Chinese Consulate-general in Sydney. I was in charge of the bilateral relationship between the Chinese and Australian governments and political issues. I was an official in the diplomatic system. I mostly collected information through public ways including reading newspapers, surfing the Internet and openly watching dissidents' group events. Sometimes, I also received information from informants. Therefore, although I didn't belong to the intelligence system, I knew some informants' names.

Chinese Consulate's intelligence information disclosed by Chen Yonglin draws attention from media

Mr. Chen said, "When I worked in the Chinese Consulate, it was as easy as turning my hand over to investigate some people. In fact, the Consulate obtained the information from some informants. Only a phone call to them, and they would inform the Consulate. Over the phone, some informants directly uncover the secrets of people who are close to them. Some hand in a written report. Some who are smarter usually request a face-to-face talk. However, it is not safe even if they come to have a face-to-face talk, because the conversation over phone or through interviews are all recorded through written reports, which will be turned in to leaders. After further compiling and analyzing, the information will be reported to the intelligence institute in China. People in the Consulate's intelligence system directly report to Headquarters of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army or Department of Security."

Chen Yonglin disclosed that the Chinese Consulate-general has a blacklist of more than 800 Falun Gong practitioners. He has already removed most of the names from the list. He said that this part of the name list was already removed from the computer database. Chen said that the reason why he has sympathy towards Falun Gong practitioners is because he indeed feels that Falun Gong practitioners are exercising their beliefs in Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance.

Veteran Falun Gong Practitioner in Sydney: The Blacklist and the Harassments Have Been Long-standing

The first of the three information documents disclosed by Chen Yonglin was the name list of the Australian Falun Dafa Association provided by an informant to Consul Du Wei. The list contained names of Falun Gong contact persons in Sydney, Melbourne, and South Australia.

The name list provided by the informant to Consul Du Wei stated, "This document was sent by the organization written on the back of the envelope. After being verified step by step, it can be included in the list for internal control (Editor's note: namely, blacklist)."

Fax sent by the Chinese Embassy in Canberra to Consulates in Sydney and Melbourne

The second document is the fax (see the photo above) sent by the Chinese Embassy in Canberra to Consulates in Sydney and Melbourne. The fax contains six pages which list more than 300 Falun Gong practitioners' names. The fax was signed by former Chinese Ambassador Zhou Wenzhong.

Ms. Meng Li, whose name was listed on the document told this reporter, "This blacklist indicates that spies are around us. Quite some time ago, the CCP had already sent spies to infiltrate practitioners and collect contact persons' names and other practitioners' names. In May 2001, when we, the 22 practitioners, had just arrived at Hong Kong airport's customs, we saw many police officers waiting there nervously as if they were confronting some formidable enemies. It seemed that they had received the information in advance and were aware of our names and whereabouts. When we passed through customs, the officers spent quite a long time comparing our passports and records on their computers. In the end, an officer who carried a walkie-talkie directed a group of officers to illegally detain all of us. They locked us in small cells individually and interrogated us one by one. Later, we were forcibly deported back to Australia. Several male practitioners were tied up and sacked, then carried onto the airplanes. During the detention, they gave each of us a cup of beverage. After drinking it, a practitioner whose last name was Zhang immediately fainted. After he went back, he felt that his memory lapsed, and that he had no strength at all. He felt dizzy and could not take care of his business. In the end, he had to sell his business. I have also felt the same way since drinking the beverage. My memory lapsed and I don't have enough energy."

Kong Huiling: Hoping People Who Follow the CCP Will Choose Their Conscience and a Bright Future

The third document that Chen Yonglin disclosed was about Sydney Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Kong Huiling's detailed personal information, including her birthday, when she came to Australia, and the Falun Gong activities around the world she has participated in from 1999 to 2004, as well as her parents' personal information such as their address, passport numbers, period of validity, and their plan to apply to visit Australia. The document even showed that Ms. Kong Huiling went to Taiwan in 2001 to attend the Asian and Pacific Area Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Conference, during which time she was assigned in the No. 11 group and what name she used. At the end of 2000, Ms. Kong Huiling went to Macao and was barred from entering Macao according to a blacklist. The document detailed how she was beaten there. Ms. Kong said that she could not remember some of the details but they were recorded on the document provided by the informants.

Ms. Kong told this reporter that in December 2000, she went to Macao through Hong Kong. When she was in the queue at customs to do corresponding paper work, she was called out by customs officials. Two policewomen took her to the elevator. One policeman rushed over and hit her on the nose. She almost felt down. After she was forcibly dragged into the elevator, four or five police officers beat her forehead with their walkie-talkies and kicked her in the lower abdomen. Afterwards, she was carried onto the dock and taken to a ship destined for Hong Kong. Mr. Lin, who accompanied her, received phone calls from CCP's department of security before he left Australia. He was told that his plan to go to Hong Kong and Macao was known. Therefore, when Ms. Kong and other practitioners arrived at Macao customs, they saw crowds of police officers waiting there. Ms. Kong told this reporter that she realized that she and other practitioners were included in a blacklist, and that informants had already reported their itineraries to the CCP's Department of Security before their trip.

Ms. Kong said, "Although I became an Australian citizen a long time ago, the CCP still knew our detailed trip plans. This left me a big shadow." Nonetheless, Ms. Kong wishes that those who still sell information to the CCP will awaken as soon as possible, see through the situation, and choose their conscience and a bright future. She warned them not to leave themselves or their children too many regrets, since when they hurt others they hurt themselves as well."

Zhang Cuiying: It's shocking to Learn that the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Assists the CCP in Dealing with Falun Gong Practitioners in their Lawsuits Against Chinese Officials

Mr. Chen Yonglin also revealed that some Australian government officials had many secret deals. For instance, the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs supplied ideas for the CCP to solve its political problems and even provided several plans to assist the CCP in dismissing the lawsuit filed by Ms. Zhang Cuiying in the New South Wales Supreme Court against former Chinese President Jiang Zemin and the 610 Office.

Ms. Zhang Cuiying told this reporter that over the past six years of persecution, her family and herself have suffered various kinds of persecution and harassments from the CCP. In 2000 when she went back to China, she was arrested as soon as entered the Shenzhen customs. Police officers who received intelligence information from spies in advance waited for her there and said to her, "You have finally arrived. We've waited for you here for one entire day already." Afterwards, Ms. Zhang was illegally detained for eight months in a forced labor camp where she was violently tortured both physically and mentally. Even after she returned Australia, her phone calls were monitored and her letters were stolen. The CCP's spies even threw a bloody dead cat at her front door and threatened that she should stop all her activities of exposing the persecution facts.

Zhang Cuiying expressed that as an Australian citizen, she felt shocked upon hearing that the Australian Foreign Ministry assisted the CCP to intervene with her lawsuit against Jiang Zemin and the 610 Office for the sake of economic interests. She hoped that the Australian government and major media outlets will conduct investigations and expose the CCP's manipulators behind the curtain so as to protect Australian citizens and allow all Australian people to enjoy a safe, free and peaceful living environment.

John Deller: Inside Stories Disclosed by Chen and Hao Help Australian Government Realize the Seriousness of the Persecution

Apart from information disclosed by Chen Yonglin, another defected Chinese official, Mr. Hao Fengjun, also exposed overseas Falun Gong practitioners' activity information provided by China's 610 Office and the Chinese Ministry of Security through different channels. For instance, Falun Gong practitioners from New South Wales planned to hold an experience sharing conference after the Christmas. The document listed the conference organizers' names. Mr. John Deller was described as the coordinator who "organized" several activities that attempted to damage the CCP authorities.

John Deller said it was really shocking to learn that Falun Gong practitioners' activities in Australia are so closely monitored by CCP officials who were even aware of detailed Australian citizens' personal information to such a degree. He said that Mr. Chen and Mr. Hao are really courageous to defect. The evidence they provided verified that the persecution and harassments encountered by Falun Gong practitioners are all real. In the meantime, they also helped the Australian public and government to realize that the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong is truly severe.

Russia: Practitioners Hold Peaceful Rally in Moscow Calling to End the Persecution After Six Years

On July 20, 2005, Russian Falun Gong practitioners held a peaceful rally in the square in front of the Moscow Palace of Culture, calling for an end to the persecution of practitioners in China.

    People show concern

It has been six years since Jiang Zemin colluded with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in launching a campaign of violence, brutality and suppression against Falun Gong. During the six year persecution, the CCP employed violent methods and used lies and propaganda to turn the entire population against Falun Gong. Practitioners in the 78 countries where Falun Gong is practiced have spent the last six years on many types of efforts letting people know the truth about Falun Gong and exposing the CCP's evil deeds. Falun Gong practitioners continue using their sincerity and kindness to uncover the evil lies and to awaken people's conscience.

Russia is a place where people are more severely poisoned by the CCP's lies than in other nations. In addition, China attempts to use economic interests to bribe Russia. Russian practitioners have overcome various obstacles and made good use of all opportunities to raise awareness about the persecution.

To tell people the facts, Russian practitioners hung banners, erected display boards and held an anti-torture exhibition. Practitioners simulated the draconian forms of torture used in China in attempts to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their beliefs. Photos of persecuted Chinese practitioners were displayed. Meanwhile, when being interviewed by reporters, Russian practitioners called on the Chinese Government to stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in China, to stop extending the persecution overseas and to stop spreading lies outside China, poisoning people's minds.

San Diego: Anti-torture Exhibit Allows More People to Learn about the Persecution of Falun Gong

Balboa Park is in the city of San Diego in Southern California, USA. It attracts thousands of tourists from around the world on a daily basis. Falun Dafa practitioners in San Diego have often held various activities here since 2001 to tell the tourists about Falun Gong and the persecution.

People are eager to learn about Falun Gong

Beginning early this year, for about six months, practitioners in San Diego went to Balboa Park almost every weekend to hold anti-torture exhibits on the lawn. Falun Dafa practitioners' perseverance in the face of the communist regime's brutality greatly touches people's hearts. More and more people have learned about the persecution and have begun spreading the news to more people.

Sometimes, visitors point at our photo display boards and say to their friends, "This is an exhibit about Falun Gong. In China, a horrible persecution is happening." One young visitor requested truth clarification materials from practitioners three times. She said that she wanted all her friends to learn about the persecution.

    People are reluctant to leave

Many predestined people learned about Falun Gong through the anti-torture exhibit. They are deeply attracted by the beauty and wonderfulness of Falun Dafa and begin to learn the practice. A practice site near the anti-torture exhibit has received new practitioners continuously. One day, seven westerners came to learn. Most of them had seen the anti-torture exhibit at least once.

Several visitors accompanied us when we began setting up the anti-torture exhibit. They followed practitioners to do the exercises for several hours until the exhibit was over at dusk, and they were still reluctant to leave.

Upon seeing so many predestined people learn the truth about Falun Gong through the anti-torture exhibit, and even begin to practice, the practitioners were greatly encouraged.

Taiwan: Falun Gong Club at National Central University Holds Activities and Special Lectures

Since the establishment of the Faculty and Staff Falun Gong Club at the National Central University, many predestined people have come to the club to learn and experience the greatness of Falun Dafa and subsequently learned the practice. Veteran practitioners on campus have been following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and maintaining the environment of doing the exercises and sharing experiences. They have not only created a convenient window for predestined people to learn Falun Dafa, but they have also maintained an environment for practitioners to temper themselves and make improvements together.

Even though it is summer vacation, the club's experience sharing activities are still being held.

Falun Gong Book Study and Experience Sharing at the End of the Term

Ms. Su from Washington, USA had an opportunity to join practitioners' experience sharing at the club because her husband was invited to visit the Outer Space Remote Control Center of the university. She was very impressed, and praised Taiwan's environment and practitioners' diligence. In the past, she did not like to voice her opinion. This time, when she came to Taiwan as a guest, she had more chances to share, and she thanked fellow practitioners for providing her the opportunity to temper herself.

Practitioners actively shared their thoughts and understandings and raised questions. Some practitioners said they were happy to be in such an environment, and that they could always gain much enlightenment and chances to improve themselves through fellow practitioners' reminding and their understanding of thinking of others first. Some practitioners said that after practicing Falun Gong, the conflicts in their work were reduced, and that they have become more considerate of others. They felt that everything had changed for the better. Some other practitioners said that they had long hoped to get rid of their bad habits, but could not do it, but while practicing in Falun Dafa, they could genuinely feel their improvement. Finally, the sharing was over while practitioners encouraged each other and felt reluctant to leave.

Specials Lectures That Are Open to the Public

"Some scientists say that after a certain period of time, people can live 1,200 years, everyone, are you happy to hear this?" (Audience: "No!") "Why not?!" (Audience: "Living so long with so many illnesses, how can one be happy!") ... "You don't need to search for medicine from outside, because all medicines are in your body..." Falun Gong practitioner Doctor Hu Naiwen gradually led the audience into his lecture amidst the audience's responses. This was the second lecture held this semester by the Faculty and Staff Falun Gong Club. It was another lecture highly praised by the audience after the first lecture given by Professor Chen Yanling.

Doctor Hu Naiwen gives a captivating lecture

Doctor Hu enumerated medical cases from all over the world, and concluded his speech with three key points, "Being kind can make one avoid hundreds of illnesses," "Less desire and less pursuit means fewer illnesses," and "After upgrading one's moral standard, one will not fall sick." In the end, the audience asked Doctor Hu why he chose to practice Falun Gong. Doctor Hu expressed that he had fragile health as a child and his family was poor, so he was determined to have more money when he grew up. He became a doctor, and when he had plenty of money, he discovered that his health was not good. He had to give his hard-earned money to doctors for curing his illnesses. Many of today's people pass away in hospitals, and not in their own beds. Therefore, he wanted to practice meditation to maintain his health, and tried numerous meditation ways. He found that Falun Gong is righteous, and through studying the Falun Gong books, his physical and mental health improved greatly. He realized that he had finally found an upright meditation way that can keep him far from illnesses and medication.

After the lecture, many people expressed their appreciation to the Falun Gong Club for holding various programs that provided good information and meaningful experiences. They said they would come again if there were other activities in the future.

United Kingdom: Practitioners in Edinburgh Hold Peaceful Appeal at Chinese Consulate on July 20

On July 20, 2005, a group of practitioners from Edinburgh, Scotland went to the Chinese Consulate to hold a peaceful appeal. They protested against the campaign of genocide that the Chinese Communist Party has conducted against Falun Gong practitioners for the past six years, and called for an end to these abuses of fundamental human rights.

In the morning, the wind was particularly wild. Although there was no place to hang the banners, practitioners put them between two trolleys which they used carry their leaflets and banners. This enabled the passengers in passing cars and pedestrians to see the messages on the banners clearly: "Urgent Rescue Needed for Falun Gong," "More than 2,700 Practitioners Died as a Result of Persecution, Stop the CCP's Brutality," and "Stop the Persecution."

Some practitioners performed the five sets of Falun Gong exercises, while others distributed flyers to both Westerners and Chinese people. The spot was next to a busy road, and motorists sounded their horns to show their support.

A practitioner explained that this is due to practitioners from Edinburgh doing their exercises there every morning to promote Falun Gong and letting more people know about the situation in China. As a consequence, many local people know about Falun Gong and the persecution.

Among the practitioners who took part in today's activity, there was a busy Western man who works six days a week. He uses his only day off work during the week to write letters to people to let them know about the human rights abuses against Falun Gong and call for support. He quietly does a lot of work to rescue and encourage the practitioners in mainland China, who, despite living in a very difficult environment, still conduct themselves by the principles of Falun Gong - Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance. Today was his day off, and he drove more than an hour to join the appeal, protest against the CCP's brutality and commemorate the practitioners who have lost their lives.

There was also a young practitioner who works night shifts. He spent a whole day hand-making a banner. This young man had never done any sewing but he worked from his heart, cut out the letters for the banner one by one with a small pair of scissors, and then stuck them onto the blue banner. The banner looked very nice and the words can easily be read, even from moving vehicles.

Everything practitioners do is to let more people know about the truth of Falun Gong, to stop the lies and propaganda created by the Chinese Communist Party, and to stop the persecution of a most peaceful and kind group of people. They do these works so that the fundamental, kind nature of humanity can be protected and promoted. The world needs Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.

Holland: On the Sixth Anniversary of July 20th, Practitioners Appeal for an End to the Persecution at the Chinese Consulate

On July 20, 2005, Dutch Falun Gong practitioners appealed for an end to the persecution against Falun Gong outside the Chinese Consulate. The banners in English read, "Oppose Violent Persecution," "Expose the Evil Persecution, Appeal to Stop the Cruel Killing," "Remember the 2696 Falun Gong Practitioners Who Died as a Result of Persecution," and "Stop the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners."

Despite it being a working day, people were visiting the consulate to apply for visas and passports. The officer in the Chinese Consulate was frightened when a banner reading "Falun Dafa - Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance" was displayed. The officer walked outside to see if permission had been obtained by the practitioners. He later went off to fetch the police, and not long afterward two police officers arrived. After viewing the permission for the appeal and realizing the truth about the persecution, they started to ask for details about Falun Gong. After the explanation, practitioners gave them some leaflets. One of them said that he'd take them back for his colleagues to read.

Some conversations occurred when fellow practitioners distributed truth-clarifying newspapers to those entering the Chinese Consulate.

A Dutch citizen of Chinese origin expressed that he once heard about Falun Gong being persecuted. He felt puzzled when fellow practitioners gave him truth newspapers disclosing the persecution. He asked, "What results do you want to get? What have you got for your past efforts?" Our fellow practitioners told him, "Everything we do is for the public to know about the persecution and to stop the persecution. What we did in the past has made a number of people know about the persecution. However, the number of people that know the truth is not enough. So we are still working hard." He identified with such a method for raising awareness about the persecution and said he'd carefully read the newspaper after getting home.

There was a lady who spoke in English. She sat in her car and carefully read the Falun Gong truth clarification leaflet. After reading it, she looked at practitioners who were doing the exercises for a long time and then left.

In less than five minutes after practitioners left the Chinese Consulate, a heavy rain fell. Practitioners sighed with emotion that Heaven is shedding tears for Falun Gong practitioners who have suffered from brutal persecution for six years.

France: Truth-Clarification in Normandy Province - The People of Rouen Are Touched by Anti-torture Exhibition

On July 8, 2005, Falun Gong practitioners visited Rouen in Normandy province. They set up a stall in the city center opposite various elegantly designed buildings and held an anti-torture exhibition where they simulated a few of the many torture methods that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) uses in its attempts to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their beliefs.

Rouen is a tourist city. On that day, the practitioners talked to tourists from Canada, Russia, UK, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania and elsewhere about the brutal human rights abuses against their fellow practitioners in China. Many people signed a petition to call for an end to the persecution.

Passersby looked at the torture simulations and some pictures that further exposed the CCP's human rights crimes, and they were astonished by the savage nature of this persecution. Dozens of school students rushed to sign their names on the petition, holding home-made paper lotus flowers given to them by practitioners. They stood there for a long time and did not want to leave. Several people learned all five sets of Falun Gong exercises that day. They were all very happy and said that they would keep practicing the exercises with help from the Falun Dafa websites and by visiting their local exercise sites where they can practice with others for free.

When people understood the truth of the persecution they all expressed their support for Falun Gong and said they were against the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. After understanding the truth, many people cleared from their hearts the evil lies instilled by the Chinese Communist Party in the past. Many people sincerely expressed a similar wish to Falun Gong practitioners: "Let's stop this persecution sooner and end these atrocities sooner so that you can live a happy and peaceful life."

Czech Republic and Slovakia: Exposing the Persecution and Promoting Falun Gong, Part 2

Between June 16 and 22, 2005, Falun Gong practitioners in the Czech Republic and Slovakia held a series of activities. While exposing the Chinese Communist Party's brutal persecution of Falun Gong, the practitioners introduced the exercises and principles of the practice. For the first time, they received mainstream media attention on a large scale. To read Part 1 of this report, please see /emh/articles/2005/7/25/63211.html.

On Saturday June 18, the largest TV station in the Czech Republic, Cesha Televize 1, interviewed Xiong Wei at a memorial where victims of the Communist Party used to be tortured. Xiong Wei is a practitioner from Germany who is visiting the Czech Republic. She spent two years in a Chinese forced labor camp, imprisoned for handing out leaflets exposing the human rights abuses against Falun Gong, before German Falun Gong practitioners and human rights organizations launched a campaign to rescue her to Germany.

On huge steps, iron statues of emaciated figures with stiff bodies or limbs missing wore fearful and helpless expressions. A metal memorial slab was engraved with the details of people who were tortured to death, including children, locked up in concentration camps or labor camps by the Communist Party.

It was in this place that Xiong Wei recounted various torture methods used in China's detention centers and labor camps. Over 2,600 innocent people have had their lives taken in the Chinese Communist Party's campaign of genocide against Falun Gong.

Truth Clarification activities in old town square of Prague

On June 19, the practitioners held a large-scale activity in front of the Hus monument in the crowded old town square of Prague. They demonstrated the five sets of Falun Gong exercises, exhibited part of the "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance International Art Exhibition" (see www.falunart.org) and held an anti-torture exhibition where the methods of torture used against Falun Gong practitioners were simulated to help the Czech people see the human rights abuses happening in China. All major media TV stations, radio stations and newspapers sent reporters to cover the event.
