  • Ms. Yang Yuhua Dies from Force-feeding on May 9 in the Daqing Detention Center

Ms. Yang Yuhua, a 50-year-old practitioner from Daqing, was a teacher at Daqing Sixth Middle School and lived in the Caikulou District. Because she persisted in practicing Falun Gong, she was cruelly force-fed and died as a result on the afternoon of May 12, 2005.

    Yang Yuhua

Ms. Yang Yuhua started to practice Falun Gong in 1995. Her severe diabetes mellitus was healed without the need for medical treatment. Her thin and feeble body became strong. In following the principles of Falun Gong, Ms. Yang practiced Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance and always thought of the welfare of other people. To speak up for Falun Gong after the persecution began, Yang Yuhua went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in December of 2000. There she clarified the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong. Mr. Yang was arrested and imprisoned in Jinzhou Jail, and was released after 20 days.

Over the past several years, Ms. Yang resisted official pressure and continued to clarify the truth about the persecution of Falun Dafa. She did this in many ways, allowing numerous people who were deceived by the evil rumors and fabricated stories to understand the truth. On the night of April 16, 2005, police from the Tieren Station arrested Ms. Yang from home in secrecy and took her to the city detention center. Her house was searched and her property was confiscated. Ms. Yang protested the persecution by going on a hunger strike. On the sixth day of her hunger strike, she was cruelly force-fed. During this time she was also beaten in Room 405 of the detention center by criminal inmates Zhang Qingzhi, Zhang Weixia, and Li Caiyun. She was later forced to sit on an iron chair for six days. Near death at 10:00 a.m. on May 9, Yang Yuhua was again cruelly force-fed by several inmtes and guards. After moaning in pain for several minutes, Ms. Yang Yuhua died with her eyes and mouth wide open

In order to cover up the truth, the detention center brought Ms. Yang's body to the hospital for "emergency treatment." A witness said, "She was already dead, and they took her directly to the morgue." To cover up the facts, officials from the Public Security Bureau, the Procuratorate, and all the city courts held an emergency meeting that very day. They issued orders that nobody should defend Ms. Yang. One person, however, argued for justice on her behalf, so Public Security exerted pressure on this person's boss, threatening them "not to be involved with Falun Gong issues." Director Peng from the city detention center conspired with criminal inmates Zhang Qingzhi and Zhang Weixia from Room 405 to provide false testimony. Meanwhile, the police had blocked the hospital.

After all of the fabrications had been arranged, they finally notified Ms. Yang Yuhua's family on May 10. Seeing Ms. Yang's body covered with black and blue marks, her hair matted and sticky, and her eyes wide open, her family was heart-stricken. Her sister couldn't make Ms. Yang's eyes stay closed with her hand. She said sorrowfully, "Sister, I know you were not served with justice. I will get justice for you even if it costs me everything I own." At that moment, Yang's Yuhua's eyes slowly closed. Everyone was moved to see this.

One more good person who believed in "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance" has been killed! One more happy family has been broken up.

Presently, Falun Gong practitioners Zhang Guiyun, He Lihua, Yang Yuhuan, Han Naixiu, Zhang Wenhua, and 70-year-old Yang Huagui are still being persecuted in the city detention center.

The Persecution and Death of Ms. Sun Qian, a Falun Gong Practitioner from Dalian

I was shocked to learn that Sun Qian, a Falun Gong practitioner from Dalian City, Liaoning Province died from persecution on March 15, 2005. The following is the information that I have concerning the persecution of Sun Qian before her death.

Ms. Sun Qian, 27,  was a graduate of the Police Training School of Liaoning Province. She was sentenced to two and a half years of forced labor because she went to the Central Government in Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in October 1999. Ms. Sun was incarcerated in the Labor Reform School of Dalian City, and her student status was revoked. On March 5, 2000, she was brought to the Education Sector of the Labor Reform School of Dalian City for "re-education" (brainwashing). Under extreme psychological pressure, Sun Qian jumped from the 3rd floor and broke both legs. Several months later, she was transferred to the Labor Reform School of Fushun City, where she was persecuted continuously. Pen Geng, a Falun Gong practitioner and a police officer from Panjing City, was also jailed there.

In the notorious Labor Reform School of Fushun City, Sun Qian was brutally tortured, and finally forced to give up her belief in Falun Dafa. Later, she was sent back to the Labor Reform School of Dalian City. She was a witness of the "March 19 Event" in 2001, when practitioners were brutally tortured in a vicious round of persecution. After her release on May 14, 2001, Ms. Sun re-established her student status at the Police Training School of Liaoning Province. In July 2001, she graduated from the school and was offered the position of accountant at the school library, and ranked as a third-level police officer.

In April 2002, Sun Qian was again arrested and taken to the brainwashing class at the Communist Party School of Dalian City at Pulandian for saying in public that Falun Dafa is good. The persecutors hung her up with handcuffs and electrical wire and viciously beat her. They poured cold water on her and shocked her mouth with electricity. Those who tortured her included Wang Jixiao, who was the most vicious, the deputy secretary of the Political and Judicial Commission of Pulandian City; Sun Mousheng, currently retired, the original director of the 610 Office of Pulandian City; Qi Jinshuai, Political Supervisor of the Sipin Police Station of the Pulandian City Police. Those responsible for arresting Sun Qian include Xu Jiahou, originally the head of the Pikou Frontier Defense Police Station and currently the head of the Frontier Defense Group of the Police Department of Pulandian City; Liu Xueyi, a policeman who has since been transferred; and Yang Jingwen, a policeman at the Pikou Frontier Defense Police Station.

During Sun Qian's incarceration in the brainwashing class, while she was being tortured by police officer Qi Jingshuai, he told her, "Your death will be considered a suicide even if I beat you to death, and we'll throw your body off a bridge." On April 25, 2002, Sun Qian was taken by force to the Labor Reform School of Dalian City and sentenced to two years of forced labor. While she was there her, cellmate was Falun Gong practitioner Liu Feng, who was also subjected to persecution. Liu Feng was a student who had been going to school in Ireland.

Because Sun Qian's health was deteriorating as a result of persecution, she was released from the Labor Reform School of Dalian City in April 2003 to obtain medical treatment. When Sun Qian got home, however, local police and members of the 610 Office repeatedly harassed her. Upon the conclusion of her medical treatment, Ms. Sun's employment was reinstated.

In January 2005, Sun Qian was arrested again. On March 10, 2005, the Court of Shahekou District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province tried her case in secret. She was found guilty of "breaking the law" and illegally sentenced to six years, and held at the Dalian City Prison.

Sun Qian was on a hunger strike for a long time in protest of the persecution inflicted on her, so her persecutors forcefully inserted a feeding tube into her stomach. This resulted in stomach bleeding and she was infected with tuberculosis. On the brink of death, the prison had no choice but to release her to the care of her family. Around March 10, 2005, while Sun Qian was being sentenced by the court, her parent's home was ransacked and illegally searched by the Internal Security Group of the Police Department of Dalian City. They showed no warrants and made no excuses. They searched Ms. Sun's parents' home while they were out, stole their valuables, including their computer, scanner and other equipment, amounting to a loss of tens of thousands of yuan.

Mr. Yang Caiyin from Hong'an County, Hubei Province Passed Away Due to the Persecution

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yang Caiyin was a teacher employed by the Hong'an Second High School in Hong'an County, Hubei Province. Because of his firm belief in "Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance," he was cruelly tortured by local officials and police. He died on April 23, 2005, at the age of 48.

Mr. Yang Caiyin started to practice Falun Gong in 1995, and both his mind and body changed dramatically. All sorts of sicknesses were eliminated, and he was always very energetic. Jiang Zemin started persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in July 1999, out of jealousy. Mr. Yang's family had no peace after the persecution began.

Yang Caiyin was one of the practitioners in Hong'an County who began practicing relatively early. He was a volunteer assistant, so he has been targeted in the past six years of persecution in Hong'an County.

In September 1999, Yang Caiyin went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. He was brutally beaten by police on Tiananmen Square. The police hung him up by his thumbs, with all of his body weight on his thumbs for 30 minutes. He passed out very quickly from the excruciating pain. After taking him back to Hong'an County, the 610 Office sent Mr. Yang to a labor camp for two and a half years in Huangshi City, where he was forced to get up at 4:30 a.m. in the morning and go to bed after midnight. For meals, he was only given soup made from rotten vegetables without even a drop of oil. Beside beating and cursing the practitioners, the labor camp guards often tortured them by depriving them of sleep, forcing them to sit on the tiger bench, hanging them upside down, force-feeding them chili water, and other cruel tortures. They also forced Mr. Yang to watch obscene videos, and to write reports of his thoughts after daily brainwashing sessions. Mr. Yang Caiyin suffered unspeakable tortures of every sort at the labor camp. After October 2000, when he was transferred to the Shayang Labor Camp, Yang Caiyin's physical condition worsened, and he was put on medical parole.

After he returned to Hong'an County, the local 610 Office and police arrested Mr. Yang more than five times over the next six years. Twice he was sent to forced labor at the Huolianfan Labor Camp, where he had to do more than ten hours of heavy labor daily. He was detained in the County Detention Center five times, totaling more than three months. The prisoners in the Detention Center were encouraged by the guards to brutally torture Mr. Yang, such as punching him in the chest, forcing him to drink toothpaste solution, and other torments. Yang Caiyin went on a hunger strike many times to protest the abuse, and then was force-fed, causing severe damage to his esophagus.

At the end of April 2002, the police arrested Yang Caiyin and sent him to the Sanligang Brainwashing Class. Mr. Yang kindly asked a policeman named Qin to not beat good people. Qin kicked him so hard that four of Mr. Yang's teeth were knocked out, and many other teeth were loosened. This brutal kick resulted in Mr. Yang having difficulty eating for a long period of time. He went on a hunger strike for 19 days without water. When he was released 49 days later, Yang Caiyin was dying.

Every time they arrested Mr. Yang, the police used the most brutal of methods. In November 2003, the County 610 Office and police surrounded Mr. Yang's home with more than ten people, breaking the windows and doors with bricks and rocks. Then they dragged Yang Caiyin and his wife down from the second floor by their feet. The police beat and kicked him. The police always arrested him first, then they would ransack his home, leaving a mess. In July 2004, the police again arrested Mr. Yang and his wife and ransacked their home.

Mr. Yang Caiyin was dismissed from his job in 1999, and his son was expelled from school, simply because Mr. Yang practiced Falun Gong. They were living by operating a very small business. The income of the business was very little, but it was stopped after several months. Mr. Yang Caiyin was taking care of three elderly members of his family and had to pay for his son's college expenses. His family of six was living in extreme poverty.

Over the past several years, Mr. Yang endured unimaginable pain. The heavy attacks from the vicious environment created by the Communist Party, the physical torture, the social discrimination caused by the propaganda, and the financial burdens combined and exceeded Yang Caiyin's ability to endure. The immense pressure caused a total mental collapse, and his health quickly deteriorated. Finally, Mr. Yang died on April 23, 2005.

The Tiemen Police Station and 610 Office in Macheng City Torture Falun Gong Practitioners and Demolish Their Houses

In February 2001, four Falun Gong practitioners, including myself, went to Beijing to appeal against the persecution. We were tortured both physically and mentally until we revealed our hometowns. As soon as they got the information, and without following legal procedures, the Beijing Yanshan Public Safety Bureau called the local police station to take us home. We heard that high-level authorities would punish officials at the city, district, and village levels whenever practitioners under their jurisdictions went to Beijing to appeal. The punishments included being dismissed or demoted from their current positions, having their wages reduced or loss of bonuses. To avoid these kinds of losses, the local Public Safety Bureau paid the Beijing Public Safety Bureau a bribe. On the way home, Ma Xingbin, the director of the Tiemen Police Station in Macheng, said to us, "The Yanshan Police Station ordered me to pay 5,000 yuan cash. I paid 3,000 yuan. After we get back, I want you to repay me even more. Otherwise, you and your families will be severely punished and your lives could be at risk."

On February 2, 2001, Ma Xingbin, Chen Kongmo and the director of the Macheng Zhongyi Police Station, Peng Teng, as well as personnel from the Macheng Zhongyi Police Station handcuffed us and locked us in an office in Beijing. Another practitioner, Wang Nan, was also detained with us. One of Wang Nan's hands was handcuffed to a pipe, and his other hand to another practitioner. The second practitioner was handcuffed to the third and we were all linked together. I was the last one in the row so my right hand wasn't handcuffed. They didn't take the handcuffs off when we ate. They handcuffed male and female practitioners separately if we were using the bathroom. During the day, we had to squat on the floor. At night, we slept with our hands cuffed to the iron bed. As we were all handcuffed in a chain daily, we asked if practitioners could rotate as the last one in the row so at least one hand could get some rest from the painful handcuffs. The police not only didn't allow this, they handcuffed us even tighter. On our way to the police station, Ma Xingbin handcuffed Ms. Wu Xiantao's hands so tightly that they quickly turned black. We asked Ma to loosen the handcuff but he ignored us. He only loosened Ms. Wu's handcuff right before we reached the train station to prevent others from seeing the torture. Today, Ms. Wu still has a scar on her wrist from that torture. When another practitioner and I went to the restroom on the train, although we were handcuffed, Chen Kongmou (male) left the door of the restroom open saying that he had to watch us.

On the train, the police beat and kicked the male practitioners. They forced Mei Jigang to get under the table. Mr. Mei's head and legs were cramped together. He couldn't sit or lie down and his back and bottom were right next to an extremely hot heater. Even the passengers standing beside the seat could feel the heat. The police forced Mr. Mei back under the table when he tried to crawl out. We tried to stop the police's cruelty but the situation didn't improve because our righteous thoughts were not strong enough. Everyone in the train car witnessed the torture, including the train guard, but he ignored it because the police told him to.

After a long time, Mr. Mei was finally allowed to get out from under the table after several of us persisted in asking. Five practitioners then sat with two other passengers and two officers around a table. The five of us tried to occupy less space and leave more room for others. Even though we were sweating and dizzy, some practitioners stood up in order to make others more comfortable.

On the afternoon of February 14, 2001, we arrived in Macheng and were taken to the Tiemen and Zhongyi Police Stations still handcuffed together. Police from the Tiemen Police Station wanted to leave the men and women in one room overnight. I protested and warned them, "If you do this, I will go on a hunger strike immediately and will sue you once I get out of here." They saw that my attitude was firm and they gave up the idea. However, the police from the Zhongyi Police Station did it anyways. They handcuffed both male and female practitioners to an iron window in a detention room overnight. We were not given any food or water and were not allowed to use the restroom. On the morning of the 13th, a cook from the police station gave each of us a small bowl of porridge. I said it wasn't enough. The cook then told me that the police station director gave orders not to allow us to eat very much. They planned to torture us with hunger.

At around 8 o'clock that morning, the police called me into an office and asked me about my appeal in Beijing. He wanted to know who asked us to go, who else was involved, etc. I refused to answer. Yang Guangming from the Tiemen Police Station brutally beat me with a wooden rod measuring two feet long and half an inch thick. Yang ordered me to kneel down. I refused, and he kicked my legs from behind. I sat on the ground but wouldn't kneel down. Yang beat me for a while and told me to stand up. Each time I refused to follow his orders, he would beat me. I didn't give him any names of other practitioners or tell him where the information came from. I said that I had asked practitioners to go with me in order to help stop the persecution.

Between 8 a.m. and noon, Yang Guangming continued beating me and Mei Jigang, who was in another room. Yang was breathing heavily and sweating from the exertion, and his eyes were red. Yang would beat us brutally if our answers were inconsistent with each other. Officers Chen Kongmou and another with the last name of Wang recorded the interrogation. When it was time for their lunch break, they stopped beating us. By that time, I couldn't stand up anymore due to severe injuries on my legs and buttocks, from which I did not recover until September 2001.

One day I was feeling nauseous, with chest pain, blurry vision, dizziness and lightheadedness, but it occurred to me that because I am Teacher's student and I practice Falun Dafa, I would be fine. I didn't faint but I still felt awful. I slowly knelt down holding onto a table. I was aware of my father bringing me a comforter. I did not want my father to feel worse about my suffering and I forgot to expose the evil to him.

Because of our appeal, The Tiemen and Zhongyi Police Stations abducted all practitioners who usually practiced at home and brought them to the police stations and prisons to monitor and brainwash them. The police were afraid that those practitioners would appeal in Beijing, so they beat and harangued the practitioners, harassed their families and fined them with what they called a "guarantee fee" (between 500 yuan to 2,000 yuan). The increased persecution was meant to stop practitioners from going to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. The director of the Zhongyi Police Station, Peng Teng, and his subordinates tied many male practitioners to their scooters and made them run behind the scooters. This happened more than once. Some practitioners were so tired that they were rolling on the floor with stomach pain and nearly lost consciousness. The police forced practitioners to clean the streets in Zhongyi, making them pick up garbage and animal excrement with their bare hands. The police took off the practitioners' warm clothing and tied it to street poles. Then they poured cold water on the practitioners, trying to freeze them. Later the police brought a pot of boiling water and poured it onto the freezing practitioners. The police also used mop handles and chairs to beat the practitioners until the sticks and chairs were broken.

The police stuffed used toilet paper into practitioners' mouths, and ordered the practitioners to denounce Teacher and step on Teacher's pictures. Practitioner Luo Kaijun picked up Teacher's picture and threw it into the flames of a stove, in order to protect Teacher from this terrible verbal abuse. The police were angry that they didn't get to insult Teacher anymore so four police officers picked up Mr. Luo and threw him onto the ground. The police continued doing this until Luo Kaijun fainted. Then they poured cold water on Mr. Luo and continued their tortures. Mr. Luo was tortured close to death. His head was swollen, his flesh was torn open and his internal organs were damaged. Luo Kaijun never recovered from all of his injuries and died in June 2002 after being released.

The police in Tiemen and Zhongyi colluded with each other to persecute practitioners in both areas. The persecution included monitoring the practitioners, confiscating their household property, collecting fines, torture during interrogation and extorting confessions. Two officers from Tiemen went to the Zhongyi Police Station to beat and verbally abuse Ms. Wu Xiantao. The director of the police station and the head of the 610 Office ordered the Tiemen police to brutally beat Mei Jigang on numerous occasions. They tortured him with electric batons, handcuffs, wooden rods, and their bare hands until their hands and feet were tired and hurting and the wooden rods were broken.

During the first few days of imprisonment, the police kept us in a detention room where we ate, drank and used the toilet. After Yang Guangming brutally beat me, my lower body was swollen and bruised. I couldn't walk, and lay on the floor for two days. I didn't eat the food the cook sent in because I wanted to protest by going on a hunger strike and therefore get released. I did the Falun Gong sitting meditation at night and could walk again after two days. Ma Xingbin asked why I wasn't eating. I said that we hadn't violated any law by going to appeal and I requested to be released without charges. Ma started to yell and scolded me as soon as I started to clarify the truth. I stopped clarifying the truth to him because I thought he imprisoned us only because he was forced to by higher authorities. My thoughts were not righteous and I didn't insist on the hunger strike. Ma saw that I couldn't walk but he still hired a thug and paid him 50 yuan a day to persecute us.

One day, the police took me and Mei Jigang to a shelter and forced us to take off our clothes. The thug ordered the practitioners in the shelter to fill buckets with cold water and forced me and Mei to step into the water with our bare feet. Mei only had shorts on. The thug asked me to take my top off. I scolded him and he stopped. We stood in the cold water in February for an entire morning. Another practitioner locked in the shelter with us refused to cooperate with the evil and was forced to stand in the cold water too. The thug told us to go inside the yard because he didn't want people from outside to see us. I understood that I should not cooperate, but my righteous thoughts were not strong enough to really do it. I felt tremendous pressure and didn't do well. The thug saw that my bucket wasn't full enough and ordered other practitioners to add cold water. Another person who lived in the shelter tried to help us, and poured some hot water into the bucket. Though it got cold quickly, we were still touched by her kindness. The thug came to us and asked, "Is Falun Gong good?" We shouted, "Yes!" He slapped us and Mr. Mei was bleeding at his mouth. The thug shouted, "If you say Falun Gong is good again, I will throw you over the dam and drown you."

A staff member from the police station came to get us and bring us back to the detention room. The thug yelled, "It's too early. I haven't punished them enough." That kind staff member told us to put our clothes on and said "Let them go." Later, the thug tried to persecute us many times and the kind staff member protected us. The Tiemen TV station wanted to film us being "transformed" and the kind staff member refused the request immediately.

My family and Mei Jigang's family all worked outside of Tiemen. The 610 Office, the police station and the county government tried to extort money from them. They sent the head of the village and two thugs to Wuhan City to find my husband and his parents and attempt to extort 20,000 yuan from them. If my family refused, the perpetrators said they were going to imprison and torture my husband (not a practitioner) and confiscate my in-laws' property. My family was so terrified that they hid themselves. My husband escaped to another place and hid for two months. Later he told me, "The thugs pressured us to such an extent. If I wasn't thinking about my parents and our children, I would have jumped into the Yangtze River."

Since the authorities couldn't find my family, they decided to tear down my house. On March 8, 2001, they tore down my house and sold all our possessions, taking all the proceeds for themselves. Later, I heard from villagers who were at the scene that people from the police station, 610 Office and the village government supervised the demolition. There were about 7 to 8 cars. The head of the village, Li Zhengquan, ordered all the supervisors and others to tear down the house. Those who participated were rewarded with 20 yuan and those who refused were fined 20 yuan. Two of the supervisors knew that Falun Gong was good and refused to tear down the house. They were removed from their positions later. When they authorities tore down the house, they didn't inform my family, who were in Wuhan at that time. I was illegally imprisoned in the police station and heard about this incident only later. Mei Jigang's house was also illegally torn down five days after mine was. The perpetrators didn't use any paperwork and didn't leave any evidence. The only evidence was the two destroyed houses. It's been five years now that our families haven't had a permanent place to live.

There are eight people in my family. Life has been especially tough during the holidays. Because of the financial losses and the mental stress, my husband and father-in-law often couldn't stand it and verbally abused me. My husband would even beat me. They let their anger out on me. Sometimes they seemed to be going crazy. I felt terrible and my heart was bleeding. They wouldn't listen to my truth clarification. I could only work as hard as possible at home and ignore their accusations. I felt sorry for them because they too had suffered due to the persecution. I talked to them and served them peacefully. Slowly, they understood me and realized that this was all persecution. They still feel sad every time they recall losing our house.

In the spring of 2001, Mei Jigang and I were imprisoned in the Tiemen Police Station for over 30 days and then transferred to the Macheng First Prison and illegally imprisoned for a month. Without any legal procedure, they sentenced each of us to one and a half years in a forced labor camp. On April 25, 2001, they announced this verdict in a court and wouldn't allow us to appeal or testify.

After Mei Jigang's house was torn down, Mr. Mei, his children and his 70-year-old grandmother lived together. One of his children was about 8 years old and the other was a little over 10. His wife worked out of town. After Mei Jigang was released from the labor camp, he didn't have a place to live and had to leave his children to work out of town.

After I was released from the forced labor camp in 2002, I went to the village government to ask for my house back. They refused my request. I visited the court and the procuratorate but they all told me that although it was illegal to tear down a house like that, they did not dare to touch my case. I went to the economic committee and the head of the 610 Office. The economic committee asked the village to pay for the house but the village government refused. The village offered to rent me a house temporarily but wouldn't give me any promises. Over the next several years, I visited the 610 Office and the county and village governments repeatedly. They continue to transfer the responsibility back and forth. Once, they decided to give me a house and an owner's certificate but later changed their minds. My experience with them has only been that of deception and dishonesty.

Ms. Fu Rufang's Six Years of Persecution in Tongnan County, Chongqing  - Part 1

    Ms. Fu Rufang

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Fu Rufang, 53 years old, works at the Tongnan County Disease Control Center, of the former Epidemic Prevention Station. On April 8, 2005, she was arrested on her way to her hometown and is being held at the Tongnan Detention Center. Ms. Fu is currently holding a hunger strike to protest the persecution. The persecution that Fu Rufang has experienced over the past six years is described below.

Ms. Fu Rufang was arrested and detained five times for a total of 573 days, including one time when she was held at a labor camp. Her home was ransacked four times and the perpetrators extorted nearly 30,000 yuan from her. The perpetrators verbally abused Ms. Fu, beat her, forced her to stand for long periods of time, handcuffed her, repeatedly banged her head against a wall, group-attacked her, and subjected her to the "Carrying a Sword in the Back" torture (1). She was also deprived of sleep and endured humiliation and forced labor. Those are among the 20-plus tortures the perpetrators used on Ms. Fu. Her eyes were injured from the beatings and seeped pus for more than two weeks. Her left arm was injured and remained so for more than six months. Fu Rufang held nine hunger strikes in protest and was force-fed in such a brutal manner that blood gushed from her nose and mouth. Several hundred perpetrators participated in the persecution against her. Fu Rufang filed a lawsuit against the perpetrators but the court refused to hold a trial.

Falun Gong gave her a new life

Before she practiced Falun Gong, Ms. Fu Rufang used to suffer from hepatitis B, various kidney disorders including kidney infections, cystitis, hemorrhoids, dry burning eyes, corneal ulceration, infections and swellings of both ear cavities, and atrophic rhinitis. Medical treatments proved ineffective. Her family was financially strained because Ms. Fu's hospital bills usurped a large portion of their income. Her work unit and the public health services were very unhappy with her because she asked to be reimbursed a large sum of money for medical expenses. In June 1996, Ms. Fu started to practice Falun Gong. Two months into Falun Gong practice, all of her illnesses disappeared. Since August 1996, she has never taken a single pill. She performed well at work and her family life became very happy.

Appeal in Beijing; fists awaited her

On July 20, 1999, the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners began. Ms. Fu went to Beijing to appeal to the central government to stop the persecution. At around 9:00 a.m. on January 23, 2000, she went to Tiananmen Square. The police pushed her into a police car. Once inside, the police officers violently hit her head. Beijing in January is bone-chillingly cold; the officers at the Tiananmen Police Station turned on the fan at the highest speed and turned it toward the Falun Gong practitioners for more than two hours. They didn't provide the practitioners any food or water. When Ms. Fu was sent to the Chongqing City Liaison Office in Beijing, the police officers confiscated a banner she carried that read, "Falun turns constantly." They also took away a picture of a Falun and 140 yuan cash. The police beat her until she became disoriented. With over a foot of snow outside, 18 practitioners of various ages were forced to sleep on the concrete floor in the office for three nights without bedding or covers. Two of these practitioners were in their 80s and lived in Beipei, Chongqing City.

Early in the morning on January 26, 2000, Tang Shoufeng, an officer from the Tongnan County Police Department and Liu Zhide, deputy head of the Tongnan County Disease Control Center, went to Beijing to pick up Ms. Fu and other practitioners. On the way to Chongqing, officer Tang Shoufeng told the practitioners he wanted to "borrow" 830 yuan from them to pay for expenses incurred during the trip. Afterwards it was learned that Zhang Liang from the Tongnan County Police Department had extorted a 6,000 yuan "escort fee" from Ms. Fu's work unit, which was later deducted from her salary. Zhang Liang also demanded money from Ms. Fu's husband. Her husband was laid off at the time and didn't have any money to give him.

    Receipt for 6,000 yuan

On the evening of January 27, 2000, four practitioners who had gone to Beijing to appeal were sent to the Tongnan Detention Center. Ms. Fu was held at the detention center for 33 days, during which time the police ransacked her home numerous times and took away four Falun Gong books. On February 28, the detention center issued a release statement but Zhang Liang, Li Yonghong and other perpetrators from the police department personally took Ms. Fu to a custody center where they held her for another 85 days. On May 23, 2000, Zhang Liang asked her husband to bring money and to pick her up. After negotiations, her husband paid 1,000 yuan guarantee money to Zhang Liang and 420 yuan to the custody center before he was able to take Ms. Fu home.

    Guarantee money of 1,000 yuan

Detained for 430 days, tortured in the labor camp

Seventy days after her release, at 9:00 a.m. on August 2, perpetrators including Zhang Liang, Zhong Ming, Liu Yong, Luo Yonghong and Li Hengyi broke into Ms. Fu's home. Zhang Liang told her husband that they needed Ms. Fu to verify something at the police department that would only take one or two hours. Upon arriving at the police department, however, Zhang Liang handcuffed Ms. Fu and tried to force her to admit that she posted truth clarification flyers in the county on July 15, although she was traveling between July 9 and July 27. In the evening, they held her at the county police department in the same room as male inmate(s). They deprived her of sleep for four days and three nights.

At 5:00 p.m. on August 6, Ms. Fu was again sent to a custody center and held for 50 days. On August 16, police officer Zhang Liang went to talk to her at the custody center. Ms. Fu pointed out that she hadn't violated any law and demanded that she be released immediately and that the perpetrators no longer arrest her at will. She said Zhang Liang and other perpetrators were committing a crime by arresting innocent people. She also pointed out that they were intentionally humiliating her by locking her in the same room with male inmates. She went on her first hunger strike to protest the persecution, but she didn't persist because she witnessed the violent force-feeding of other practitioners.

Because Falun Gong truth clarification flyers appeared in Tongnan County, the Chongqing city government issued a quota that three practitioners had to be sent to a forced labor camp. Zhang Liang retaliated against Ms. Fu for appealing in Beijing and chose to send her to the labor camp. On September 24, 2000, Luo Yonghong and other perpetrators from the First Section of the Police Department escorted Ms. Fu from the custody center to the detention center. The next day, she was sent to the Maojiashan Women's Forced Labor Camp in Chongqing. The perpetrators at the legal section gave her a "Decision to Send for Labor Reeducation" and told her to sign it. This document stated that Ms. Fu mailed Falun Gong materials to Tongnan County. Ms. Fu said, "This is not true; it's made up. I can't sign it." The official then wrote, "person refused to sign" on the document and sent her to the labor camp anyway.

Ms. Fu was held in Division 2 of the Maojiashan Women's Forced Labor Camp. There, three or four inmates monitored her closely. They watched her every word and movement, and even followed her to the toilet. The practitioners were not allowed to study the Fa or do the exercises. They were forced to sit on a bed with their backs bent and their legs straightened out in front of them. They were not allowed to talk, and not even allowed to move their lips. For a period of time, the police forbad Ms. Fu to sleep. Inmates monitored all the cells at night. The inmates verbally abused and beat the practitioners at will. If the practitioners were found to be sleeping, the police officers would write a note and extended by two days the sentence of the inmate responsible for watching that practitioner. The inmate would then vent her anger on the practitioner.

The guards use the criminal inmates to control the practitioners. In order to ingratiate themselves to the guards, the inmates were very cruel toward the practitioners. They often violently beat the practitioners, including Ms. Fu. They said to her, "We wouldn't have to treat you like this if you would "reform". The team leaders asked me to do this, and it's no use suing them. If I "reform" one of you, I'll be able to go home two months early."

If the practitioners recited Falun Gong articles, the inmates would force them to squat, or subject them to a torture called "riding a motorcycle" [a painful stance that is difficult to maintain]. Sometimes the perpetrators wiped the practitioners' mouths with dirty towels and tied up their hands.

After dinner on December 28, 2000, some practitioners were reciting Lunyu. Before they could finish the second paragraph, the inmates started beating them. Ms. Fu's eyes were injured and they reddened, swelled and tears flowed. Her eyes seeped pus for over two weeks. The guards never intervened when the inmates beat the practitioners. On the second day after they started reciting "Lunyu," group head Yu Qinghua ordered all practitioners in the group to stand in a military posture for 16 to 17 hours a day, for 35 days straight. Ms. Fu's calves and feet swelled and she could not fit her feet into shoes that were size 40, although she usually wears size 35. Her legs were numb and she could not bend them. When she was going to lunch, the inmates thought she was walking too slowly so they dragged her along on the ground. She could not sleep at night because of the pain in her feet and legs.

May 13, 2001, was World Falun Dafa Day. The practitioners did the Falun Gong exercises in the group courtyard, so the inmates beat and kicked them. The inmates on duty struck Ms. Fu to the ground and stomped on her head and face. They dragged her by her feet back and forth on the ground. The guards ordered the inmates to handcuff the practitioners in the manner of "Carrying a Sword in the Back." At the same time, the practitioners were forced to stand with their feet close together and ankles tied together. The inmates gagged them with dirty towels and sealed their mouths with yellow tape; then they forced them to squat in the scorching sun. Ms. Fu's left arm was injured during the torture; it was swollen for two weeks, and was black and blue. She could not use her left arm for more than six months and could barely lift it to comb her hair.

The guards also forced the practitioners to watch videos that attacked and slandered Falun Dafa, and handcuffed the practitioners to the railings of the upper bunk beds, with their feet barely touching the ground.

Later, the practitioners refused to do slave labor and held a hunger strike to protest their brutal treatment. After five days of being on a hunger strike, the guards force-fed Ms. Fu. They handcuffed her and inserted a tube through her nose. They didn't take it out until three or five days later. The end of the tube inside of her body became the shape of a funnel.

Ms. Fu held four hunger strikes at the labor camp and wrote numerous appeal letters. On September 27, 2001, she had already been held 55 days past her term. Liu Chaoli, an officer from the No. 2 Police Station in Tongnan County went to pick her up, but he sent her to the Tongnan County Custody Center. While at the custody center, Fu Rufang wrote a protest letter to the head of the Tongnan County 610 Office and held a hunger strike. She was released on October 7, 2001.

During the one-and-a-half years at the labor camp, Ms. Fu endured unimaginable torture. As a Falun Gong practitioner, however, she overcame them with a firm belief in Teacher and Falun Gong, and with an indestructible will obtained through Falun Gong practice.

The CCP held the Sixteenth Party Congress; Ms. Fu Rufang was arrested, tortured to the brink of death and recovered through Falun Gong practice

At 3:00 p.m. on October 29, 2002, Zhang Liang and other police officers went to Ms. Fu's work unit while she was at work and ransacked her office. Although they couldn't find anything they wanted, they still put her in a police car and sent her to a custody center. Perpetrators Zhang Liang, head of the No. 2 Police Station, Liu Chaoli and Liu Shijun from her work unit ransacked her home. They took Falun Gong lectures, VCDs, exercise music cassettes and the book, Zhuan Falun. In the one year after Ms. Fu was released from the labor camp, she worked hard and often overnight without extra pay. She never complained about not getting overtime pay, or that her monthly salary was 347 yuan less than that of her colleagues who did the same work. The police arrested her because "Jiang Zemin is about to hold the Sixteenth Party Congress and he has again ordered us to arrest Falun Gong practitioners." Ms. Fu held a hunger strike to protest the arrest.

On the morning of November 5, 2002, Zhang Liang told Liao, head of the custody center and official Liu to have four inmates bring Fu Rufang out of Room No. 5, hold her down in a chair and force-feed her. Ms. Fu said, "In August 2000, doctor Liu Guanghai at the custody center conducted a physical exam on me and said I could not be force-fed. If you force-feed me and something happens, none of you can escape having a legal responsibility." Zhang Liang told them, "Go ahead and force-feed her." They inserted a tube into Ms. Fu's windpipe so she could not breath or speak. They stabbed her repeatedly with the tube until blood gushed from her lungs. They finally removed the tube and inserted an oxygen tube so she could breathe.

Later, Zhang Liang took Ms. Fu to the county hospital for an X-ray. In order to avoid any responsibility, Zhang Liang told the doctor at the Radiation Division to write a false report, in which he claimed that nothing entered Ms. Fu's lungs and that she had heart disease from practicing Falun Gong.

Zhang Liang sent Ms. Fu back to the custody center, and Ms. Fu had dry heaves frequently on the way. She didn't vomit anything because her stomach was empty. After arriving at the custody center, Zhang Liang ordered Ms. Fu's oxygen tube to be removed and to have her locked in Room 5. Within two minutes, Ms. Fu had difficulty breathing and her chest hurt terribly. She had heart palpitations and she was dizzy. She vomited blood. Witnesses said her lips were black and blue, and they reported this to the police officer on duty. Liao, head of the custody center and officer Liu came to see her. They called Zhang Liang and rushed Ms. Fu to the county hospital. The doctor at the outpatient department could not detect her pulse and could not detect her blood pressure. Ms. Fu's face was black and blue, as were her fingers, and her hands and feet were cold.

Zhang Liang called Ms. Fu's husband and left. Doctor Peng Ruan at the county hospital said to her husband, "She is probably not going to survive." He issued a "critical condition" notice. Her husband sent her to the emergency room where she had a blood test. The test result said she had acidosis. In order to prevent the perpetrators from murdering her, Ms. Fu asked to go home. She was in grave condition when she left the emergency room. She had to stop several times before she could finish one sentence; she coughed weakly and didn't have the strength to blow her nose; her lungs hurt terribly as if they had stopped working.

    Notice of critical condition

Ms. Fu went to the emergency room at 12:10 p.m. on November 5, 2002 and left at 6:10 p.m. the same day. She decided to go home to study the "Fa" and do the Falun Gong exercises. She completely recovered after ten days without using any medication.

Fu Rufang only stayed in the hospital for six hours, and her husband picked up a prescription for an IV infusion costing 117.9 yuan and also paid 100 yuan for the blood test.

On November 14, 2002, Zhang Liang called her work unit and told them that Ms. Fu had incurred over 1,000 yuan in medical expenses and that she had taken some medication home. The next day, Ms. Fu went to her work unit and told her supervisors the truth; she showed the prescription to her supervisors and exposed Zhang Liang's lies. Ms. Fu also said to her supervisors and the Public Health Service official, "I don't acknowledge this expense." Later, Zhang Liang went to Jiang Daoyi, deputy head of the Tongnan County government, who approved the forceful reimbursement of more than 2,000 yuan from her work unit.

Ms. Fu is imprisoned because of the appeal; the court refuses the appeal

Ms. Fu wrote down the facts of how Zhang Liang and others persecuted her and was going to send the papers to the procuratorate. On July 16, 2004, Ms. Fu made copies of the papers at a copy shop in front of the Tongnan County Health Bureau. After she made the copies, the owner of the copy shop feared that the police would hold him responsible and told Tang Shuxian, the office head of her workplace. On the afternoon of July 16, three officials from the Disease Control Center, Tang Shuxian, Zhou Zilun (the Chinese Communist Party branch head), and Tan Lun (head of the administrative section), went to Ms. Fu and asked her to give them the copied materials for the appeal, including the original. Ms. Fu said that she had burned them except for one copy that was meant to be used as proof that copying appeal material was a civil right. Ms. Fu turned in the copy to Zhou Zilun and Zhou gave it to the director of the Disease Control Center, Yuan Nailiang. Later Tang reported her to the police regarding photocopying the appeal documents. The reward for reporting a Falun Gong practitioner was between one thousand yuan and five thousand yuan. This was to entice people into assisting in the persecution.

On the morning of July 19, 2004, officers from the Tongnan County National Security and the Second Police Station came to Fu Rufang's workplace. They sat together with people from the Health Bureau and Ms. Fu's supervisor. They called Ms. Fu, who was working at that time, and asked her to turn in the copies and the original materials of her appeal. She replied, "I am exercising my constitutional right. I have the right to appeal and to speak. These are basic rights granted by the Constitution." Those people were speechless. At 11 a.m., Yuan Xueping and Luo Yongjiang from the National Security and several police officers from the police station arrested Ms. Fu, sent her to the Second Police Station and confiscated her household property without any legal procedure. They also took away a hand-written Falun Gong book. Zhang Liang was giving orders in the police station. Zhang ordered the police to charge Ms. Fu with "disturbing public safety" and sentenced her to 15 days in prison. They didn't give her anything to eat for the next two meals. She was cold and hungry. Yuan Xueping laughed at her and said, "Sue me. Why don't you sue me?" They took Ms. Fu to the prison at 6 p.m. on July 19.

    Warrant of arrest

From July 19 to 22, the temperature was around 96º F. Ms. Fu was on a hunger strike during those four days. However, she still needed to pay 10 yuan for "living expenses" each day. On the morning of July 22, Zhang Liang sent Li Hengyi and the police from the Second Police Station who filled out Ms. Fu's paperwork for the prison. The police yelled at her, "I follow orders even if they are wrong. If you don't eat, we'll force-feed you. We are not responsible if you die." In the afternoon, a person who stayed in the same cell with her told her, "If you don't eat, they will force us to push you down and force-feed you. We will get punished if we don't follow their orders. In 2002, I held you down and saw you bleed a lot and almost die. You are making us commit a crime. What are we supposed to do?" Other people persuaded Ms. Fu as well. She hence stopped the hunger strike.

On August 6, 2004, Ms. Fu filed an appeal at the Chongqing City Legal Office. At 9:45 a.m. on October 15, Li Hengyi and Luo Yonghong from National Security brought Ms. Fu a document, the Administrative Decision After Reconsideration (Number 04178). The director of the Chongqing City Police Department, Zhu Mingguo, and the director of the Tongnan County Police Department, Yin Jianzhong, worked together and covered up the decision made by the Tongnan County Police Department. On the Administrative Decision After Reconsideration, it said, "If you are not satisfied with the decision, within five days after receiving this notice, file an administrative litigation at the people's court" (the law actually says 15 days). On October 19 (in less than five days), the Case-filing Division of the Tongnan County People's Court accepted Ms. Fu's appeal documents. She left her phone numbers, including her cell phone, with the Case-filing Division and was prepared to pay the litigation fee when the case was scheduled. On October 17, Ms. Fu also sent the Chongqing Intermediate People's Court and the Beijing Supreme People's Court copies of the materials by express mail.

    The Administrative Decision After Reconsideration

On November 15, 2004, Ms. Fu hadn't heard anything back. She went to the people's court to inquire but the director of the Tongnan People's Court Case-filing Division told her to go to the reception room. The receptionist told her, "We have an order from the higher authorities saying we cannot file cases for Falun Gong and we cannot answer Falun Gong-related issues in writing, only oral answers are allowed." When asked about who gave the order, the receptionist couldn't answer and said there was no paperwork for the order. The receptionist told her not to visit the court anymore and said that she should visit wherever she was called in for reasoning. When asked about where she could go for justice, the receptionist did not know. Ms. Fu said, "The court is where we should go to appeal. That's what the Administrative Decision says." The receptionist said he couldn't handle an appeal for Falun Gong practitioners.

The fifth arrest; Ms. Fu is still incarcerated

On April 8, 2004, Ms. Fu took a bus from Tongnan County to go to Shouqiao Township where she was from. In the middle of the trip, at the Tangba Town Bus Station, some people arrived a small car and arrested her. Fu Rufang is now imprisoned in the Tongnan Custody Center. She is on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. She has not yet been released as of this report. One month before this arrest, a policeman attempted to arrest Ms. Fu but did not succeed.

Before this most recent arrest, at 11 p.m. on March 8, 2005, the director of the Tongnan Second Police Station and three officers including Liu Chaoli forced Ms. Fu's husband, Zhou Licheng, to get in a car. They swung by the police station to get two more officers and drove to Ms. Fu's house. They ordered her husband to open the door. The police didn't show any paperwork and started to search everywhere in the house. They took away a picture of the two hand gestures for sending righteous thoughts and several Falun Gong tapes. Ms. Fu was asleep when they arrived. The police attempted to arrest her but didn't succeed. On March 18, Ms. Fu submitted an "Administrative litigation" to the Tongnan County Court to file a lawsuit concerning this incident.

The financial persecution has cost Ms. Fu 30,000 yuan

Ms. Fu was very ill before she started practicing Falun Gong and often asked the government for reimbursement of her medical costs. After she started to practice Falun Gong, Ms. Fu became healthy in both mind and body. She saved the government tens of thousands of yuan in medical expenses over the past nine years. However, Zhang Liang and others extorted money from her and forced her workplace to withhold money from her pay. It added up to over 30,000 yuan, without including the 6,000 yuan "deporting fee" and the 2,000 yuan "medicine fee."

The following are details of the financial losses Ms. Fu suffered due to the persecution.

    1. Each practitioner who was arrested had to pay 207 yuan besides 1,000 yuan deposit and 420 yuan living expenses in the prison. The total was 1,627 yuan.
    2. Ms. Fu was imprisoned for 573 days and during that time, for 540 days her workplace didn't pay her anything. The wages lost during those 540 days was almost 20,000 yuan.
    3. Twice in a row Ms. Fu didn't get her salary raise (once when she was imprisoned and the other time was after she went back to work). She was at work from October 2001 to June 2003. Her monthly pay (704 yuan) was 374 yuan less than that of other workers on the same level (1,078 yuan). Her workplace owes her 7,854 yuan.
    4. After June 2003, Ms. Fu was demoted three classes lower than the workers on the same level as she. From June 2003 to December 2003, they paid her an amount that was 150 yuan less than they should have paid per month. From January 2004 until the day of this report, they paid her an amount that was 130 yuan less than they should per month. Therefore, through today, her workplace owes her 1,400 yuan.

Fu Rufang submitted her appeal documents in 2004 to the court to ask the court to help her get back all of the property that was taken from her.

Files an appeal concerning the persecution to the local court and Procuratorate

In mid-October 2004, Ms. Fu wrote down the persecution she experienced over the previous five years and submitted it to the District Court and the Procuratorate. At the end of the letter, she wrote, "I have not done anything wrong. I only practice Falun Gong and want be a good person who believes in Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance. I am treated unfairly because of it. The various forms of persecution against me, committed by Zhang Ling and other policemen from the Tongnan County National Security Team and by officers Yu Qinghua, Liu (last name), He (last name), Li (last name), and Xie (last name), and from the Maojiashan Forced Labor Camp have severely violated the law and constitute a crime.

"In the past several years, I have had no personal safety. The police never follow the law in dealing with Falun Gong practitioners and never have any solid evidence for arresting practitioners. Everything has been based on lies. They have arrested whomever they wanted, have ransacked whichever house they wanted and even pried open the windows and doors to get into the house. The police have often harassed my family so that we couldn't have any peace. These policemen are still continuing their crimes. I hope you can justly enforce the laws and punish the criminals. Please arrest the criminals, in order to promote justice and help to stop this persecution that harms the people. Also, the police department and police station unlawfully voided my residency. Please help me to get it back.

"Here I want to draw your attention to my personal safety. I am risking my life to present my true personal experience to you. I hope you can protect my personal safety. Please redress Falun Gong and give me justice! Thank you."

Sanshui Women's Forced Labor Camp in Guangdong Province Sets up "Dark Cells" to Secretly Persecute Practitioners

"Dark cells" have been set up especially for the persecution of steadfast Falun Gong practitioners in Sanshui Women's Forced Labor Camp in Guangdong Province. The police designate two drug addicts to watch one practitioner in the cell, where the walls are covered with profanity smearing Falun Dafa and its founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi. The drug addicts demand that the practitioner read those words aloud, otherwise, they will beat her, force her to squat for a long time, or make her sit on a small stool for an extended time. If the practitioner refuses to follow their commands, she will be deprived of sleep or use of the toilet. If the practitioner goes on a hunger strike to protest, the criminal inmates will brutally force-feed her. Practitioners in these dark cells are routinely shocked with electric batons, hung up, and handcuffed for a long time. As long as the practitioner does not give in, these tortures are applied in an endless cycle. The persecution of practitioners in Sanshui Women's Forced Labor Camp is beyond one's imagination. We are revealing some specific incidents, below.

    1. Ms. Chen Shaoqing is a teacher in her 30's. She has been put into the dark cell three times. The first time was in March and April of 2002. In order to force her to give up practicing Falun Gong, the guards put her into the dark cell and did not allow her to use the toilet or to sleep. Ms. Chen went on a hunger strike for over 20 days. The guards kept her there for nearly two months, but she resisted the persecution and did not obey any commands from the police. The guards failed to reach their goal.

From December 2003 to January 2004, the police again put Ms. Chen into the dark cell, once again not allowing her to use the toilet or to sleep. This time, she held a hunger strike for a long time. She protested the violent force-feeding, so the labor camp guards sent her to the clinic to be force-fed. She resisted and protested firmly. The police ordered the drug addicts to drag her on the ground, ripping three pairs of her pants and scraping her skin.

To force Ms. Chen Shaoqing to give up Falun Gong, the labor camp guards did not allow her to have any necessities, such as sanitary napkins, nor did they allow other practitioners to help her. During her menstrual period, Ms. Chen could only use rags. The guards kept a strict eye on her, not letting any one get too close to her in case she revealed what happened to her.

    2. Ms. Tian Huiying is in her 40's. The police sent her directly from a brainwashing center to the labor camp. After she was arrested, her non-practitioner husband left home, leaving their two young children at home unattended. The guards in the labor camp used continuous physical and mental torture to force her to quit Falun Gong. Under the intense pressure in the labor camp, Tian Huiying signed the four types of repentance and "guarantee statements." Later, she made a solemn announcement voiding them.

Then the police guards used more brutal methods to persecute Ms. Tian. Someone in the labor camp saw that her body was covered with black and blue bruises. She collapsed mentally and couldn't sleep at night. She looked extremely worn out. The guards were afraid she would reveal information about the persecution she experienced, so they separated her from other practitioners and didn't allow anyone to get close to her or speak to her. The labor camp still worried about information leaking out, so they secretly transferred Ms. Tian to another team and told others that she had been set free. In fact, she is still being detained.

    3. Xue Aimei is in her 30's. She was arrested in November 2003 in Shenzhen and sent to Sanshui Women's Labor Camp. To protest the persecution of her spiritual belief, Ms. Xue went on a hunger strike for 52 days starting in December 2003. The labor camp authorities told her mother to persuade her to eat, and Ms. Xue had some food afterwards. Someone saw her in the labor camp and said that she was very weak and couldn't walk steadily. She is still detained in the labor camp.

    4. Ms. Dai Ying is from Bao'an in Shenzhen Province. She is in her 40's. After her husband was sentenced to imprisonment as one of the major coordinators of Falun Gong in Shenzhen, she went to Beijing to appeal for justice. The court sentenced her to prison. In the prison basement, the police shocked Ms. Dai with electric batons and beat her so severely that her eyes bled. While she was in prison, her father, a retired high-ranking official of the Communist Party, passed away. The police department in her hometown had asked the prison to let her go to the funeral, but the request was refused. After a physical examination in the hospital, Dai Ying was released due to her poor physical condition, "not suitable for imprisonment."

Ms. Dai was under close surveillance after returning home. She was later sentenced to a labor camp for two years because some fellow practitioners visited her. Due to her poor physical condition, however, she was released on bail.

    5. Details of the persecution of other practitioners, including Yu Dehui (in her 30's), Xu Hongyan (a foreign language teacher), and Xu Jianying, is unknown due to the tight control on information in the labor camp.

The person directly responsible for the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is Liang Guiling, head of the No. 1 Branch of the Second Team in the Sanshui Women's Forced Labor Camp.

    3. Practitioner Ms. Fu Rufen From Chongqing City Exposes the Persecution She Suffered

My name is Fu Rufen. I am 55 years old and was educated as far as middle school. I am a village doctor, and I used to be a Women's Director in my village. I live in Shouqiao Village, Xiaodu Town, Tongnan County, Chongqing City. I was arrested twice since the persecution began on July 20, 1999, because I persisted in practicing Falun Dafa, which teaches me to be a good person. On one occasion, I was unlawfully arrested and held for 725 days, including time in a forced labor camp. While I was in prison, I suffered kicks to my chest, verbal abuse, being suspended by handcuffs, being tied up, being force-fed, and having to do forced labor, as well as other punishments. My family was harassed endlessly. Since my release I have become destitute and have now been homeless for more than a year. Over a five-year period, several police officers from the Beijing Production Team participated in my torture. During this time I suffered severe persecution both physically and mentally. As a result of this persecution, I have now been separated from my family and have nowhere to live.
