  • Changchun Police Launch Searches Targeting Practitioners Who Possess the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party

According to insiders, the Chinese Communist Party recently issued a secret order requiring the police to intensify the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners between April 20 and May 20, 2005. The police are ordered to search every practitioner's home, and confiscate anything related to Falun Gong and the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. To target those practitioners who have been forced to leave home to avoid further persecution, the secret order requires local police to search rented houses and check IDs of temporary residents in those rented houses.

It was learned that this secret order was sent to various provinces, cities, counties, towns, and villages.

On April 25, 2005, a group of police officers suddenly broke into a practitioner's home. Apparently the police had a list of local practitioners and were conducting a home search of every practitioner. The police learned the names of many Falun Gong practitioners from this practitioner. They took the practitioner and her child to the police station. Late that night, mother and child were released. The police said that she was released because she did not have the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party in her possession. The police were targeting people who have the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party in their homes.

Harbin City Practitioner Wu Shufang Learned Falun Gong in Prison and Was Intensely Persecuted

In February 2002, Ms. Wu Shufang was detained in the Harbin City Women's Prison for a criminal offense that she did not commit. There, she met some Falun Gong practitioners and learned Falun Gong.

Once Wu Shufang began to practice Falun Gong, she was put under "close surveillance" by the prison authorities and was watched around the clock by a 5-inmate team assigned to her. She has no human rights whatsoever - she is not allowed to talk to practitioners, to sit on the bed, to close her eyes, and she is followed everywhere, including when going to the restroom.

Ms. Wu's case was still under investigation while her family members were appealing her wrongful accusation. But when her lawyer learned that she was practicing Falun Gong, he told her family members that she was not allowed to appeal because of it. This is totally against the code of law, which states clearly that all prisoners have three basic rights: the right to appeal, the right to see visitors, and the right to maintain their good health. But as long as Ms. Wu practices Falun Gong and insists on following "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance," all her rights are taken away.

Over a period of more than one year since September 2002, the Harbin Women's Prison forbade Ms. Wu from seeing any visitors or making any phone calls. They also withheld all her mail. They kept her in prison over three years. Normally, a person serving a three-year term will receive one to one and a half years of term reduction. Ms. Wu, however, has served more than one year of extra time due to her practice of Falun Gong.

Because they deprived Wu Shufang of her rights to see visitors, make phone calls and receive mail, the homicidal criminal Wen Cui had the opportunity to con Ms. Wu's family of goods, saying that she was getting them for Ms. Wu. When Wu Shufang found this out on October 30, 2003, she wrote a report to the head of the guards, Cui Hongmei. Rather than punishing Wen Cui, Cui Hongmei promoted her to become a key member of the group that helps persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

Jilin Women's Forced Labor Camp Brutally Tortures Ms. Zhu Xiyu - Her Current Condition Unknown

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhu Yuxi is detained in Division Four of the Jilin Women's Forced Labor Camp and is being tortured. Her condition is unknown.

All Falun Gong practitioners detained in the Jilin Women's Forced Labor Camp face prolonged terms. They are shocked with electric batons, confined in small rooms, punished by being made to stand for long periods (sleeping is only allowed after midnight.), and beaten. Those who protest by going on a hunger strike are force-fed once every day and are injected with a bottle of an unknown liquid.

Before the Chinese New Year, the Jilin Labor Camp forced all people detained there to work from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. They had to wrap soft candy right away after meals. There were no sanitation measures at all.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhu Xiyu went on a hunger strike for about three months. After she was force-fed in a clinic, the guards put rope on her ankles and then dragged her around. Both her back and her head were severely bruised and she left blood spots on the snow in the yard. People from all divisions saw her as they lined up for meals and could not stand watching this any more. People constantly shouted out the words, "Stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners." Until then, the prison guards assisted Ms. Zhu to sit up on the ground. Afterward, they dragged her to her room upstairs while she was still sitting. Dragging her this way left blood spots on every step of the stairway.

Sometimes, the guards tossed her in the snow after force-feeding her. Later they sent her to the hospital next to the Police Department and persecuted her there for three months. People saw that Ms. Zhu had mental colaps  after she was sent back to the forced labor camp. The prison guards intimidated Falun Gong practitioners, saying, "If you don't renounce Falun Gong, you'll end up like Zhu Xiyu: either crazy or dead."

Thirteen Practitioners from Shandong, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and Other Provinces Who Died Because of the Persecution

Mr. Fu Zhongxin was a 76-year-old retiree living at the Erlu Village, Hekou District, Dongying City, Shandong Province. His whole family practiced Falun Gong and benefited from the practice. After Jiang's regime started the persecution in July 1999, his family went to Beijing many times to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. However, the whole family suffered a lot because of the brutal persecution. Fu's eldest son was sent to a forced labor camp for three years, his second daughter-in-law endured long-term torture in a brainwashing center, his eldest daughter and her husband were also arrested and suffered both short-term and long-term detentions just because they went to Beijing to appeal. During the 2002 Chinese New Year period, his family was reduced to just him, his two granddaughters (one 12, one 14 years old) and a 13-year-old grandson. Nobody helped the family. Even so, police officers still frequently harassed them. The high pressure and burden became too much for him. He died miserably on June 15, 2002.

Ms. Wang Zhiyu was a resident of Yang County, Shanxi Province. She introduced Falun Gong to people in her daily life. On either April 12 or 13, 2005 she was arrested by local police officers. Officers from the provincial 610 Office also came to persecute her. Ms. Wang died the same day or the next day from the torture she endured while in detention.

Mr. Xu Zhenfu was 64 years old. He was a resident of Shaerhure Township, Huolinguole City, Inner Mongolia. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. After July 20, 1999, police officers went to his home to harass him many times. His wife went to Beijing to appeal, and was arrested and detained many times by local officers, which caused Mr. Xu immense grief. During the time period that his wife was detained for the third time, he died on March 6, 2002.

Mr. Xu Yacong was 63 years old. He was a resident of Shaerhure Township, Huolinguole City, Inner Mongolia who started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. He went to Beijing on September 9, 1999 to tell people that Falun Dafa is good. He ended up being detained by the local police for two weeks. Later, his home was searched and he was arrested many times because he clarified the truth about Falun Gong to people. Local officers frequently harassed him at his home. He passed away on February 7, 2003.

Mr. Wang Yujie was 44 years old, and a resident of Benxi City, Liaoning Province. He had many diseases before he started practicing Falun Gong, but the diseases disappeared soon after he took up the practice. In October 1999, he went to Beijing to clarify the true nature of Falun Gong to people, but was arrested and detained. After being released, he was frequently harassed by local police and street officers. On April 8, 2002, he died.

Ms. Liu Juanjuan was 73 years old. She was a practitioner who worked at the Nanchang City Second Attached Hospital, Jiangxi Province. Before practicing Falun Gong, she had high blood pressure, diabetes, and had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. None of her conditions were cured despite visiting physicians at many hospitals. Through practicing Falun Gong she became very healthy and regained a rosy complexion. But after the persecution started in 1999, police officers frequently followed and threatened her. Feeling terrified, she could not read Falun Gong books or do the practice as usual. On February 9, 2005, she suddenly died.

Mr. Liu Huisong was 57 years old, and an employee of the Agriculture Machinery Station of Dajing Township, Wuxue City, Hubei Province. He was threatened and harassed many times by police officers from the Dajing Township Police Station who did not allow him to go to Beijing to appeal. Local officers had him fired from his job, which left him without an income. On December 2004, he died after a cerebral hemorrhage.

Ms. Yu Huiqin was a Falun Gong practitioner who worked at the Guangdong Province Textile Import and Export Company. After she retired in 2000, she was harassed and monitored for a long time, and was eventually arrested and sent to a brainwashing session where she was severely abused. On December 2001, she died in great sorrow.

<>Ms. Chen Shangying was an 83-year-old senior who was respected for her kindness. Her grandson was arrested many times for validating Falun Gong. The inhuman persecution of her grandson left the old lady in great sorrow. On January 23, 2002, her grandson was arrested once again, which left Ms. Chen in despair. Traumatized by the horror, she died feeling broken-hearted.

Mr. Zhang Zhijun was from Nanpi County, Hebei Province. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. All of the diseases he had suffered from disappeared after only half a year of practice. After July 20, 1999, he went to Beijing to validate Falun Gong, but was detained. After returning to his home, he was frequently harassed and could not do the Falun Gong exercises anymore. On September 14, 2003, he passed away.

Mr. Xia Wenzhong was a 59- year-old resident of Chenan County, Handan City, Hebei Province. On August 31, 2002, he attended a large-scale experience sharing conference held in the county. For this, he was arrested, beaten, and shocked with high-voltage cattle prods by a group of police officers (headed by Tian Guisheng and Yang Shihua from the Chenan County Police Department). The torture left him with high blood pressure and symptoms of having suffered a stroke. Later, he was subjected to brutal torture at the Daming and Shijiazhuang prisons. Under such continual pressure, he gave up and said things against Falun Gong. Later with the help of his family, he was released just before the 2005 Chinese New Year. Due to the torture he suffered in the prison, he was sometimes mentally slow. After coming home, through communicating with fellow practitioners, he made a solemn declaration that he would continue the practice of Falun Gong. However, he passed away on March 14, 2005.

Ms. Cui Tong was a 62-year-old employee of the Changchun City Watch and Clock Factory. On April 25, 1999, she went to Beijing to validate Falun Gong. After returning home, she was harassed, threatened, and had her home-searched by police officers many times. She was also sent to a brainwashing session after which she was left blind in one eye and suffered urinary incontinence because of the constant threats. Police officers forced her family to pay 1,000 yuan before releasing her. She was forced to leave home for about one year to avoid further persecution. When she started to feel unwell, she was diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer. She passed away at the end of September 2004.

Ms. Jin Shuxian was a 74-year-old resident of Changchun City. Her multiple diseases were cured through practicing Falun Gong. After the persecution started on July 20, 1999, local police officers went to her home many times to try to force her to write a guarantee statement, and to harass and threaten her. Her three daughters were sent to forced labor camps at different times, and another daughter was sent to a brainwashing center. She was deeply pained in her heart and passed away in June 2000.

    1. The Nature of "Helping the Poor" in Aohan Flag, Inner-Mongolia Autonomous District

On April 2, 2005, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Political and Judiciary Committee in the Inner-Mongolia Autonomous District and Aohan Flag conducted a "Helping the Poor" campaign for some former Falun Gong practitioners. They sent necessities worth about one hundred yuan to each of the former practitioners, on the condition that they must declare that they have been thoroughly "transformed." Actually there were more than 40 practitioners in Aohan Flag who have been sent to forced labor camps at least once, and others were sent twice. The above former practitioners have also been sent to brainwashing torture sessions. Ms. Xin Yuqin has been in the forced labor camps twice, each time for two years. Her first term was in the Tumuji Forced Labor Camp, and the second was in the Hohhot City Women's Forced Labor Camp. Inside the Aohan Detention Center Ms. Yu Cuihua was cruelly beaten by female guard Ji Yahuan with a "wolf-tooth" baton, which left her buttocks covered with purple-black bruises. She was later sent to a forced labor camp for three years. Mr. Hu Mingjun was detained in 2002, and was again arrested in July 2003, and detained for two months. Each of the former Falun Gong practitioner has been extorted of money several times, arrested, and sent to forced labor camps or prisons one or more times. These are the real reasons they are poor.

    3. Persecution Facts in Gaozhou City, Guangdong Province

In February 2004, Falun Gong practitioners Mr. He Weiyu and Xu Ensheng were reported to police while they passed out truth clarifying materials in Guding Town. They were followed, and then arrested by policeman Xian Jian from the Guding Town Substation. The police ransacked their homes, and detained them in the Chengnan and Chengbei Substations. They were tortured with long-term sleep deprivation. Mr. Xu Ensheng could not stand the continuous tortures any longer, and divulged to police the source of the truth clarifying materials. This resulted in practitioner Mr. Wu Xianjin's arrest, his home being ransacked, and his being tortured with sleep deprivation. Mr. Wu went on a hunger strike to protest. These three practitioners were all detained in the Second Detention Center. Mr. Wu Xianjin and Mr. Xu Ensheng were sentenced to three years of forced labor, and Mr. He Weiyu has been sentenced to two years of forced labor. The three were sent to the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp in March 2004. Mr. Xu was rejected by the camp due to poor health. The other two are still detained. 4. Fatal Accident Not Settled After One Year Because the Victim is a Practitioner and the Driver Is Related to the Police Director

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yang Fengyu was in his 50s. He had been detained many times due to his steadfast practice of Falun Gong. At the beginning of 2001, he was again detained, and sentenced to three years of forced labor. He was brutally beaten in the forced labor camp, and his front tooth was broken off. Only four months after his release, he was killed by a drunk driver. The police have not been dealing with this accident, because Mr. Yang was a Falun Gong practitioner, and the driver, An Fuai (male), is the brother-in-law of Police Director Zhao Guomin (male). Therefore the case was never closed.

    1. Officials from Qi Town and Mei County in Shaanxi Province Persecute Falun Gong Practitioners

In mid April 2004, Liu, the Party Secretary of Qi Town in Mei County led people from the Qi Town 610 Office and from the police station to climb over the walls and break into Falun Gong practitioners' homes. Four practitioners who were working in the fields were then arrested and sent to a forced brainwashing center called the Baojixia Employee's Training Center in Dianzi Street, Baoji City.

Late at night on December 7, 2004, Xu Youping, an officer from the Politics and Security Section of the Mei County Police Department led eight other officers to Nanzhai Village, Qi Town where they ransacked the home of practitioner Ms. Xu Xiqian, around 55 years of age, and arrested her. They held her for several months and then sent her to the Shaanxi Province Female Labor Camp. The labor camp authorities refused to accept her because her blood pressure was 180.

At midnight on December 7, 2004, the same people broke into the home of practitioner Mr. Wang Zhouyi, a retired worker. They searched him and took him to the Qi Town Police Station. Two days later they sent him to the Miliang Hotel in Tangyu, Mei County, where they handcuffed him for 15 days and didn't allow him to sleep. On January 24, 2005, they again sent him to the Miliang Hotel in Tangyu where they held him for 10 days, during which time they slapped, verbally abused and beat him. 2. Persecution at the Suining Forced Brainwashing Center in Jiangsu Province

In early 2001, the officials from the Xuzhou City 610 Office set up a brainwashing center in Pinglou Township, Suining County. They arrested several practitioners and transferred certain practitioners from other brainwashing centers. Some were brought there from labor camps after their terms had expired, and some were transferred from mental hospitals. At this brainwashing center, the practitioners are monitored around the clock in small rooms. During more than one year of detention they were only permitted one shower. The guards handcuffed and shackled the practitioners. The shackles and handcuffs were connected with a metal chain less than 50 cm in length (about 12 inches), so the practitioner could neither stand nor walk. It was extremely difficult for them to move. The practitioners were also forced to sit in an iron chair and even had to relieve themselves there.

Some practitioners were tortured in this chair for 18 days in a row, during which time they were forbidden to sleep. In addition, guards hit practitioners' fingers and toes with wooden sticks covered with nails until their hands and feet were covered in blood. Some practitioners were injected with psychotic drugs, making their hands tremble; they lost their memories and could not stand up. Some practitioners lost consciousness, while others were tortured until they were extremely weak and had blurred vision.

Those practitioners who held a hunger strike to protest the persecution were violently beaten. Practitioner Yuan Ling was beaten until she could not open her eyes, which were filled with blood and her eyesight declined drastically. Practitioner Jia Huili was beaten and could not walk for half a month. Some practitioners were tied to a tree with their hands behind their backs, and some were handcuffed to a doorframe. Practitioner Ms. Bian Guiju was handcuffed to a metal window during the day and handcuffed to the head of the bed at night. Her feet were affixed to the end of the bed and she was tortured all year long. She can no longer walk. The guards threatened to further torture her despite her condition.

Practitioner Mr. Wei Xingshe refused to renounce his belief, so the guards tied his hands behind his back and beat him all over with a rubber club. After Mr. Wei passed out, the perpetrators poured cold water over him until he came back. Then they continued to torture him until he lost consciousness again. They handcuffed his hands behind his back and to the floor rings, and his feet rubbed back and forth against the floor until they bled profusely. After he returned to his cell he was handcuffed to the bed for a whole night. As a result of the torture, he could not get out of bed for more than 20 days. One year later his arms were still sore and the scars were still clearly visible on his legs.

    3. Persecution of practitioner He Rongmiao from Zhuozhou, Hebei Province

Practitioner Ms. He Rongmiao from Zhuozhou went to Beijing to appeal in 1999. She was held at a county detention center for two months, during which time she was inhumanely tortured. Between 1999 and 2002, the perpetrators fined Ms. He over 16,000 yuan, not including "gifts" that they extorted from her. In 2002, Ms. He was sent to a brainwashing center. She held a hunger strike; the police shocked her body with electric batons and beat her with spiked clubs until her body was covered with bruises. Then the police officers handcuffed her to a metal chair; they pried open her mouth with a metal strip, inserted a thick force-feeding tube into her throat and force-fed her spoiled, sour porridge.
