  • Mr. Dong Hongqiang from Yichuan County, Henan Province Dies After Being Injected with Unknown Drugs in the Xinmi Labor Camp

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Dong Hongqiang from Yichuan County, Henan Province, had been detained many times by the Yichuan County 610 Office, or the Political Security Office within the Police Department. He had been sentenced to three and a half years of forced labor, and was tortured in the Xinmi Labor Camp. The severe torture resulted in Mr. Dong suffering a mental collapse, which led to his death.

Mr. Dong Hongqiang, 40 years old, lived in Xicang Village, in Chengguan Town, Yichuan County, Henan Province. He firmly practiced Falun Gong, and was arrested and detained by the County 610 Office and the Political Security Office because they suspected that he was distributing truth clarification materials. Later, Mr. Dong was living under close surveillance for one year. Dong Hongqiang was forced to become homeless in order to avoid being illegally arrested at home. The police were chasing after him and harassing his family. They caused his wife to divorce him, and his family was broken apart. From March to April 2002, the persecution escalated. Mr. Dong Hongqiang was arrested again, detained, sentenced to three and a half years of forced labor, and incarcerated in the Xinmi Labor Camp.

We learned that Mr. Dong was brutally beaten in the camp, and was injected with unknown drugs while four or five people held him down. Ever since the poisonous injection, Dong Hongqiang became very weak, his belly became extremely bloated, and he suffered a mental collapse. He was severely emaciated and had difficulty breathing.

In the middle of August 2005, the police notified Mr. Dong's family to pick him up from the labor camp. His family sent him to the hospital, but the doctors said he was beyond treating. Dong Hongqiang died on November 9, 2005.

Appealing for the Rescue of Nanning Falun Gong Practitioners Liang Biyan, Wang Liya, and Others

In October 2004, Falun Gong practitioners Liang Biyan, Cai Junping, Liang Shenping, and others, were illegally arrested in Nanning and imprisoned by officials of the Nanning 610 Office. Later, Chengbei District Court and Intermediate Court in Nanning City illegally sentenced them to three years. In June 2005, they were sent to Guangxi Women's Prison and Guangxi Litang Prison.

Since June 2005 when Ms. Liang Biyan was jailed, she went on a hunger strike to protest her mistreatment. It's been more than 140 days since then. During that time, her life has been in danger and she's received emergency medical treatment. On October 24, 2005, Liang Biyan was sent to Maoqiao Prison Hospital. As soon as she was out of danger, they immediately sent her back to the jail, where the persecution continued. Liang Biyan has become so thin that her health is jeopardized. Her life is in constant danger. Only after repeated requests from her family for medical treatment was she sent once more to the Maoqiao Prison Hospital on November 11, 2005.

On September 12, 2005, Falun Gong practitioner Ms.Wang Liya was abducted from her home in Nanning, which the authorities ransacked. The police confiscated four copies of Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and some small cards saying "Falun Dafa is good". They detained Wang Liya at the 2nd Detention Center in Nanning City. While she was there, her family members went to Qingxiu District Police Department, Nanning City several times to request her immediate release, but their requests were heartlessly and unjustly refused. Therefore, Wang Liya's family decided to use legal means, hoping they would receive justice. When the attorney they hired went to the National Security Team to request information on their behalf, he encountered the same type of unreasonable resistance that they had.

On October 15, 2005, the officials of the National Security Group of Qingxiu District Police Department informed Ms.Wang's family that there was a change in her case, and she was to be imprisoned. Her attorney went to the National Security Team repeatedly to ask for information and request a meeting with the prosecutor. The officials at the National Security Team refused the attorney's request and warned him not to get involved, saying that "the case involves state secrets," that the investigation was "in its early stages," and that they were still collecting evidence.

So far the police have illegally imprisoned Falun Gong practitioner Wang Liya for more than 70 days. To date her family and their attorney haven't heard one word about her situation.

At present, the illegally imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners at the 2nd Detention Center in Nanning City include Wang Liya, Zhong Erbo, Deng Hongxia, Huang Qingyu, and others.

Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Wang Zhibing Suffers Mental Breakdown Due to Persecution

After the Lvshun Market Street Police and the Lvshun Military No. 215 Mental Hospital persecuted Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Zhibing three years ago, she became mentally unstable. In spite of her condition, in May of this year, the police again arrested her. She was detained at the Lvshun Police Station. While she was in detention, Ms. Wang was "diagnosed" with schizophrenia and was sent to a hospital. In October, the court tried her.

Ms. Wang Zhibing, 59, formerly lived on Market Street in the Lvshun District in Dalian City. In April 2002, the former head of Lvshun Market Street Police Station, Fei Hongjin, arrested her when she was trying to rescue her son Mr. Zhu Xiaofei, who is also a practitioner. She was sent to the Lvshun Military 215 Mental Hospital. The hospital staff forcibly injected her with drugs that are harmful to the central nervous system. The injections caused Ms. Wang to become mentally unstable. She was later taken back home. Even with her family's care, Ms. Wang's condition has remained unstable.

At the end of September 2004, the police arrested Ms. Wang's son, Mr. Zhu Xiaofei. Due to persecution he had become paralyzed and his family bailed him out so he could receive treatment. The Dalian Forced Labor Camp repeatedly called to harass Mr. Zhu's family. Upon learning that the forced labor camp was sending people to arrest her son, Ms. Wang hung banners on her balcony to protest. Their action affected her mentally and once again became mentally unstable. Her condition continued this way until May 16, 2005.

On May 16, 2005, the police forcibly broke down Ms. Wang's door and arrested her. First they detained her at the Lvshun Detention Center for two days. On May 18, they transferred Ms. Wang to the Dalian City Heishijiao "Guoli Mental Hospital." Each day, they injected her with harmful drugs, which caused her body to stiffen. Ms. Wang could not walk, developed symptoms of vomiting and was unable to eat. Her mind also became unclear. On July 15, they transferred Ms. Wang to the Lvshun Detention Center. It is reported that she was illegally tried in October. The details are pending further investigation.

Ms. Wang's husband, Mr. Zhu Mingcheng, (who is not a practitioner) and her daughters, Ms. Zhu Lin and Ms. Zhu Mingming, were also arrested on May 16. Mr. Zhu was later sentenced to two and a half years of forced labor. He was detained at the Dalian City Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Zhu Lin went on a hunger struck at the detention center. She was released, but the police arrested her again when she went to the hospital to visit her mother in July. Ms. Zhu Lin was sent to a "brainwashing center" and was persecuted there. Ms. Wang's other daughter, Ms. Zhu Mingming was charged with "attacking the police" because she tried to protect her mother and sister when the police arrested them. Her current condition is unclear.

Corrupt Security Officials from the Fengtai District in Beijing Spend Large Sums Attempting to Force a 16-Year-Old to Give Up His Belief

The family of Mr. Wang Shuangli, his wife, and their son, Wang Fan, were forced to abandon their home due to their practice of Falun Gong. On March 7, 2005, the police illegally arrested them in their apartment. Mr. Wang Shuangli and his wife were detained. Over a dozen people are trying to force their son, Wang Fan, who is under 16, to give up his belief of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance.

Mr. Wang Shuangli and his wife were detained in Beijing's Tongzhou Detention Center. Their son, Wang Fan, could not be detained in the detention center, so the police held him in the Tongzhou National Security Department for a week. The Fengtai District Tieying Street Neighborhood Office, the Fengtai Police Department, and the local 610 Office conspired to hold a brainwashing session. Han, the Director of the Armed Forces Bureau in the Tieying Street Neighborhood Office, a Mr. Li, as well as Li Yueqiu, a "collaborator" from the Fengtai District, were the session leaders. It was reported that Li Yueqiu has cooperated to assist in the brainwashing sessions of close to 300 Falun Gong practitioners in the forced labor camps. As a reward, he was released early from the labor camp. Over a dozen people brainwashed and persecuted him.

These security officials booked a hotel suite and spent over 1000 yuan. The brainwashing session lasted one month and tens of thousand yuan were spent in order to brutally force a 16-year-old minor to change his belief.

Middle and Elementary School Survey Kept Confidential To Hide Officials' Guilty Consciences

Around 4 p.m. on October 20, 2005, all middle and elementary schools in Wu'an City, Hebei Province, abruptly organized their students to complete a survey about Falun Gong. Lawless officials marked the surveys "Confidential: Keep Private" to conceal their guilty consciences. There was no official seal or organization's name on any of the documents.

The surveys were printed with letterpress printing. Some of the questions required the students to give personal information. Besides that, there were three propaganda questions designed to rouse young children to hate and commit crimes. The first question was about their attitude towards Falun Gong. The standard answer for the students to copy was given when the surveys were distributed. The second and the third questions were meant for young children who haven't understood the truth about reporting Falun Gong practitioners. The questions pressured the children to agree to report practitioners.

The survey was unexpected, and the teachers and students were unhappy about it. Some teachers told the students when they handed out the paper, "Don't fill in just anything. You can write 'I don't know' and that will do." Some students refused to go along with the exercise and tore up their surveys. Some teachers asked their students to copy the standard Party line for an answer. It was learned that every middle and elementary school was surveyed at almost the same time, and all the papers were taken away immediately afterwards. All this happened very hastily. Some principals weren't even aware that the survey had occurred. The details are under further investigation.

The Cases of Persecution at Northeast Normal University and its Affiliated Secondary School

Since July 20, 1999, when the persecution of Falun Gong started, many faculty, staff and student practitioners at Northeast Normal University and its affiliated secondary school have been persecuted. When Jiang Zemin ordered the suppression of Falun Gong in 1999, he said to: "damage their reputations, cut them off financially, and destroy their physical bodies." For new students, if they refuse to renounce Falun Gong, they are not allowed to start school, whether they are graduate or undergraduate students. For those graduating students, if they continue to practice, the university will not help them get a job.

Faculty members as well as students are forced to write "guarantee statements." The school authorities conduct illegal searches of students' dormitories, expel students, dismiss staff/faculty, impose fines, and drive students out of residence halls. The school authorities even cooperate with the police department to send practitioners to forced labor camps, detention centers, and brainwashing centers. All of these forms of persecution inflict pain and difficulty on practitioners and their families.

So far, one practitioner has died as a result of the persecution, and many have been sent to forced labor camps, lost their jobs or been expelled from school. Over 30 practitioners have been detained. The following is a partial account.

    1) Mr. Bai Xiaojun, 36 years old, had a Masters in Philosophy and was a faculty member of the university. After July 20, 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong many times and was detained numerous times. In July of 2000, he was sentenced to forced labor for one year and jailed at both Fenjin Forced Labor Camp and Weizigou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City. During his detention, he endured all kinds of tortures and was seriously injured. At one point Mr. Bai was sent to a hospital run by the police department. On February 12, 2002, he was released from the forced labor camp a full 7 months after his term officially ended, and subsequently forced to undergo brainwashing at Changchun City Xinglong Mountain Brainwashing Center. Later on, he was illegally jailed at Changchun No.3 Detention Center for one month. Because he refused to renounce the practice, in April 2002 he was sent to a forced labor camp for the second time in three years and jailed in Changchun City Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp's 4th Group. Mr. Bai Xiaojun had scabies all over his body as a result of the abuses. However, the inmates (directed by the police) poured salt water on his body. In June 2003, he could not eat or drink any more and was bedridden for three weeks. On July 18, 2003, he died in the Changchun Hospital of Contagious Disease.

    2) Mr. Xie Fei, 32, was a teacher at the secondary school. He has been persecuted on many occasions. In 2001, he was illegally detained and jailed at Changchun City's Tiebei Detention Center. After this he was dismissed by his employer and his residence was taken away from him. He has been displaced ever since. In March 2003, during the Chinese Communist Party's "Two Conferences" (People's Congress and the Conference for People's Political Consultation), he was secretly arrested by state security agents. He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after he painted pictures to praise Falun Gong. He is now jailed in Changchun City's No.3 Detention Center. It's said that his hair has all turned grey.

    3) Mr. Cai Ke, 32 years old, is also a teacher at the secondary school. He was jailed in July 2001 and held in Changchun City Balibao Detention Center. Later on he was dismissed from work. He was arrested in March 2003 by state security agents for painting pictures to praise Falun Gong, and sentenced to 7 years imprisonment.

    4) Mr. Sun Shibin, 48 years old, was a model teacher at the secondary school. He has been illegally detained and sent for forced labor where he was nearly tortured to death. He still has scars and injuries on his body caused by the tortures he suffered. His school has also stripped him of his right to teach.

    5) Ms. Shan Lixin, 48 years old, was a model teacher in the secondary school. She has been suspended from work because she refuses to renounce her faith.

    6) Mr. Jiang Song, 33 years old, is a doctor in a hospital affiliated with the two schools. In October 2001, he was sent to one year of forced labor because the police found Falun Gong truth-clarification materials in his place.

    7) Mr. Ma Guohua, 34 years old, is a librarian. In October 1999, he was jailed for four months after appealing in Beijing for justice for Falun Gong. In June, 2001, he was illegally detained for three months for distributing Falun Gong truth-clarification materials. Because of his faith, his employer refused to promote him. Now he has been suspended from work and receives no wages.

    8) Ms. Sun Min is 47 years old and worked as support staff. In November 2000, she was illegally detained for distributing truth-clarification materials. She was later forced to resign from her job by her employer. She was one of those practitioners arrested during the arrest blitz of March 5, 2002 in Changchun City. Her house was also ransacked.

    9) Ms. Wang Huilian, 32, was a lecturer in urban and environmental science. In 2000 she was accepted to be a Ph.D. candidate in Beijing University, but her candidacy was cancelled because of her belief. In 2001, she went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and was illegally detained for 15 days. Then she was detained for half a year. Her salary was also cancelled. Because of Ms. Wang's faith, her employer labeled her as an unqualified teacher despite the fact that 900f her students gave her approval. In 2003, she was ordered not to teach and in March 2004, she was sent to forced labor.

    10) Ms. He Jie, 30 years old, was a Ph.D student studying Japanese issues. In 1999, the local police department was afraid that she would go to Beijing so they put her under surveillance. In 2000, she was expelled from school.

    11) Ms. Qi Jie, 27, is an undergraduate student in the Chemistry Department. In 2000, Qi Jie went to Beijing to appeal and was detained for 15 days. In 2001, although she was ranked first in her class, her admission was cancelled. She was later assigned to teach at Dandong No.2 Middle School. In 2002, Ms. Qi Jie went to Beijing again. She was sentenced to imprisonment.

    12) Ms. Xu Ke, 23 years old, is an undergraduate student at the College of Liberal Arts. In 2003, she was accepted into a Master's program at Shanghai's Fudan University. However, since she refused to give up her faith, Northeast Normal University refused to release her file to Fudan University, resulting in her admission being cancelled.

    13) Ms. He Jun, 26 years old, is an undergraduate student at the College of Liberal Arts. In July 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was illegally detained. She was then suspended from school for one year. In 2000, Ms. He went to Beijing to appeal again and was arrested once again. She was released after her family was forced to pay a fine to guarantee that she would not go to Beijing again.

    14) Ms. Bao Caihong is 26 years old and a math undergraduate student. In March 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and was illegally detained for 15 days. In October 2001, while Ms. Bao was clarifying the truth to the students when someone reported her to the police, resulting in her being detained.

    15) Ms. He Xuxuan is 28 years old and a physics student. In March 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was detained for 15 days. She was dismissed by her employer for her faith. She is now displaced.

Jiang's regime mobilized the media to smear Falun Gong and deceive the Chinese people. Many practitioners went to Beijing to clarify the truth of Falun Gong, however, they were persecuted by the police and government officials from all levels. The following students were detained for going to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong.

The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Jiangxi Women's Prison

Authorities in Jiangxi Women's Prison continue to brutally persecute over a hundred Falun Gong practitioners who are illegally imprisoned there. The practitioners continue to uphold their beliefs in Falun Gong amidst this persecution. The practitioners refuse to read the official propaganda materials that slander Falun Gong, or take part in the forced brainwashing sessions in the prison. The practitioners insist on not writing the so-called
repentance statement or articles that "uncover and criticize" Falun Gong. As a result, the authorities brutally beat them, pierce them with needles, burn them with cigarettes and fire, strip off their clothes and expose them to the sun for extended periods of time, and deprive them of sleep. They also order them to do laborious work, force-feed them, and lock them up in small cells for extended periods of time, etc. Under this brutal torture some practitioners have suffered various forms of mental trauma while others have developed terrible blisters on their bodies.
