  • Ms. Jia Guilan Dies of Grief Because Her Daughter and Son-in-Law Were Persecuted to Death

Practitioner Ms. Jia Guilan, 69, from Huanan County, Heilongjiang Province, fortunately started to practice Falun Gong with her spouse in 1996. After practicing and practicing Falun Gong, many of her old age diseases completely vanished. When her daughter Yuan Hezhen went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong after the persecution started on July 20, 1999, her daughter was "arrested" and brutally tortured by the police. As a result, Ms. Yuan Hezhen died in July 2003. When Ms.Yuan's husband Mr. Sun Jihong went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong on September 25, 2002, he was illegally arrested and tortured to death. Ms. Jia was heartbroken, and died on March 3, 2005.

Mr. Sun Jihong and Ms. Yuan Hezhen's family

Mr. Sun Jihong was the former chief of the local police station of the Huanan Forestry Bureau Public Security. Because he persisted in his belief of "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance," he was illegally abducted and detained many times. On September 25, 2002, Mr. Sun was kidnapped once again and imprisoned in the Yuquanying Crossing-Bridge Place in the Fengtai District of Beijing. On September 29, 2002, after four days, he was tortured to death by police. His body was gruesome. There was a hole between his eyebrows and two holes in his cheeks. His whole body was covered with cuts and bruises.

Ms. Yuan Hezhen was the former director of the Huanan Forestry Bureau's Savings Bank of the Huanan County Industrial Commercial Bank. In May of 2002, she was illegally arrested in Beijing. She suffered from merciless beatings, painful handcuffing, forced feeding, and other brutal tortures. She suffered serious injuries, and her health deteriorated each day. In July 2003, she died.

Mr. Sun's grandmother, Ms. He Guizhi, was extremely sad. She lost the sight in both eyes because her grandson and grand-daughter-in-law were persecuted to death and she could not take legal action. On December 3, 2003, she died of great sorrow. Only Mr. Sun's 82-year-old grandfather, Mr. Sun Xueren, is left in the family, and he takes care of Mr. Sun's daughter, Sun Yubo, in order to get through these hardships.

Couple from Guyuan County in Hebei Province Are Sill Being Persecuted

Falun Gong practitioner couple Ren Haiquan and Zhang Jinying reside in Houshan Village of Baituyao Town in Guyuan County, Hebei Province. Since they started practicing Falun Gong, their health has improved, their morals raised, and they led a happy and harmonious life.

However, on July 20, 1999, Jiang's regime started the frenzied suppression of Falun Gong. Ren Haiquan went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was arrested and sent back to Guyuan County Police Station. After detaining him for several days, the police extorted 300 yuan from him. Thereafter, this was used as an excuse by officials in the village, town, county, and city to further persecute him.

In October 2000, the head of Baituyao Town, Feng Baogui, led a number of people and broke into Mr. Ren's home. They illegally searched and ransacked his home, damaged the furniture, tore open the ceiling, and rummaged through chests and cupboards searching for Falun Gong materials. They also threw the picture of Falun Gong founder on the ground, and trounced on it, while cursing, insulting and slandering Falun Gong. Led by Feng Baogui, they, including his driver then brutally beat Ren Haiquan. They also forced Mr. Ren to put up posters at home that defamed Falun Gong, and forced him to pay 300 yuan for the slanderous posters.

In October 2000, the Ren couple was arrested by the local 610 Office without cause and then persecuted in a brainwashing center for 12 days. Because of their firm belief, they were verbally and physically abused by the brainwashing center's wicked Zhang Zhanbing, and extorted of 100 yuan.

In 2001, Mr. Ren went to give the wife of Jiao Lanbing several pieces of truth-clarification materials. Jiao Lanbing reported this to the village official, and the village official then reported it to the township officials. Meng Xiangui and others from the county Police Station illegally arrested Mr. Ren, detained him for 14 days, and extorted 250 yuan from him.

On the evening of February 22, 2000, township leader Feng Baogui and others once again arrested the couple without cause and detained them for 15 days. During this period, Feng Baogui, village Party Secretary Lu Yubao, village accountant Ji Zonghai verbally abused him. For not giving up the belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance," the couple was sent to Zhangjiakou Brainwashing Center and persecuted there for more than 5 months. Around August 2004, village Party Secretary Lu Yubao paid several people including Zhang Laibing, Wang Zhanyun and Chen Xiuyun 5 Yuan a day to monitor the couple. During the period when the couple was being monitored, these people, as well as the village director Yang Maoqing and village accountant Ji Zonghai constantly abused and harassed them. They totally lost their freedom and right to privacy. Furthermore, the monitoring expenses were passed onto the village residents so as to incite their hatred towards Falun Gong and Falun Gong practitioners.

On November 1, 2004, the Ren couple was once again arrested from home without cause, and detained in the Houshan Village school. On November 3, they were sent to Xiyangtai Village Brainwashing Center of Xuanhua County for further persecution and have not been released as of today. Village Party Secretary Lu Yubao asked his two relatives to go and monitor them, and paid them 20 Yuan per person per day. This expense was shouldered by the village residents. Because of the extended period of time and the large sums of money involved, it resulted in a sizable burden for the local residents. In this way, hatred was stirred up among local residents towards Falun Gong and Falun Gong practitioners.

The Ren couple has a 6 year-old child, who could only be taken care of by the elderly grandparents. Their land has also to be cultivated by the elderly grandparents, who are having a very difficult time. Still, the local village and township officials try all sorts of ways to be difficult and mistreat them. For example, they have yet to give them the 4000 kilograms of wheat, a reimbursement from the government.

Falun Gong Brings Benefits and the Persecution Brings Suffering in Ningjin County, Shandong Province

In 1992, Teacher Li Hongzhi introduced Falun Gong to people in China. In 1996, many people in Ningjin County, Shandong Province learned about Falun Gong and started practicing Falun Gong. People who practiced Falun Gong improved their xinxing quickly, and the resultant improvements in their health were very impressive. The number of people practicing Falun Gong increased every day. By 1999, there were thousands of people in Ningjin County practicing Falun Gong. The improvement in their morals had a very positive effect on the people's civility in the Ningjin Area.

Among the practitioners of Ningjin County, some quit smoking and drinking, and some families and neighborhoods became harmonious. There was a story about a female practitioner. Before she started to practice Falun Gong, she had a strenuous relationship with her mother-in-law. After practicing Falun Gong, she actively looked inward and tried hard to make improvements. This practitioner did the house chores and showed respect to her mother-in-law. When her mother-in-law was sick, she took good care of her. Their relationship became better and better. Many neighbors talked positively about them.

A practitioner went shopping. After paying for the item, he found that the seller gave him extra change of five yuan. He immediately gave five yuan back to the seller. The seller was very moved and said, "Wow, you are really a good person. It is very hard to find someone like you nowadays. Thank you!" The practitioner said, "I practice Falun Gong. All practitioners behave like this, and we follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance to be good people. If people improve their morals, then you will find more people doing good deeds."

Practitioner Mr. Li Dianzhong is an employee of Chaihudian Flower Factory. Before practicing Falun Gong he took things home from the factory like other workers. After practicing Falun Gong, he did not do it any more. In addition, he estimated the cost of the items he took home and paid the factory what he owed. Practitioners lead their lives based on the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance," are considerate to others, and never harm other people. With more people practicing Falun Gong, the overall morality at the factory improved, and more good deeds happened everyday.

Falun Gong's effectiveness in healing illnesses and improving health are also very impressive. Practitioner Ms. Li Hongqin was a teacher. She had gynecological problems and had to stay at home for three years. She visited many reputable hospitals in China. After spending tens of thousands of yuan, she still could not find a cure. In 1996 she started to practice Falun Gong. One year later a miracle had occurred: all her ailments disappeared and she went back to work. It is Falun Gong that gave her a healthy body and saved her a lot of medical expenses. Her experience affected many people in the field of education in Ningjin County. More people began to learn Falun Gong as a result.

Ms. Wang worked at a local product factory. She had breast cancer before practicing Falun Gong. After learning Falun Gong she followed the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance" in her daily life, studied the principles of Falun Gong and did the exercises every day. She regained her health.

Practitioner Mr. Wang Baocheng had many skin disorders. He spent a lot of money looking for a cure, but failed. After practicing Falun Gong, he kept studying the  principles of Falun Gong and doing the exercises. One night he felt warm energy all over his body, and the next day all of his skin disorders were gone. He became a healthy person.

Practitioner Mr. Qi Guoshui had studied many different qigong practices before he found Falun Gong in 1996. Besides practicing Falun Gong himself, he organized group practice in his community and traveled to other cities to buy Falun Gong books for others. He looked very healthy, with a rosy complexion and good spirits. Witnessing the great changes on him, his family members also learned Falun Gong. Such cases are numerous.

Falun Gong was introduced to the public in 1992. By 1999 there were over one hundred million people in China practicing Falun Gong. Thousands of people practiced Falun Gong in Ningjin County. Genuine practitioners assimilated to the characteristic of the cosmos, Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance, and became better human beings. They looked inward when facing conflicts, and handled themselves with peaceful and compassionate hearts. Practitioners did not pursue fame or fortune. They were strict with themselves and devoted to their jobs. They went to work earlier and left work later than others, and they did their work conscientiously. They never complained about the tasks they were assigned to do, and did not fight for personal interest. The businessmen who practiced Falun Gong did their business based on integrity, honesty and fairness, and they would not deceive customers, or sell phony merchandise. Anyone who practices Falun Gong will take the initiative to be a good person with high moral standards. Falun Gong practitioners are a group of kind-hearted and peaceful people.

Such a wonderful practice as Falun Gong is brutally persecuted in China. Jiang Zemin and his follower Luo Gan fabricated lies to slander Falun Gong. On July 20, 1999, they launched the persecution against Falun Gong, employed all available resources, and carried out a policy of genocide toward practitioners of "defaming them emotionally, bankrupting them financially, and destroying them physically." Over the last six years, practitioners in Ningjin County have suffered severe persecution. Three practitioners were persecuted to death, and seventeen practitioners were illegally sent to forced labor camps. Illegal fines for practitioners totaled 400,000 to 500,000 "yuan."

After July 20, 1999, Falun Gong practitioners went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong trusting the government to be fair and solve the crisis properly. At the Appeals Bureau, all the practitioners were arrested, and the bureau turned into a police department. Some practitioners were even arrested from their homes. Over one hundred practitioners in Ningjin County were arrested and fined from 30,000 to 50,000 yuan. Some practitioners were detained at the east or the west wings of the Xinxing Hotel. Sixty to seventy practitioners were detained in a room of approximately 110 square feet in size. The weather was hot, and temperature was about 98-100 F. Jiang Zemin and his cohorts did not allow innocent people to tell the truth. Whoever wanted to speak the truth and appealed on behalf of Falun Gong was arrested, fined and/or sent to prison.

In the spring of 2000, two practitioners, Yang Yun and Jin Jinghua, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. The authorities were very angry and illegally arrested more than a dozen local practitioners. Practitioner Hou Tingren knew Yan and Jin's plans, and was detained by the Public Security Bureau for several days and fined 10,000 yuan. Other detained practitioners were fined 50,000 yuan individually. A police officer on site even said, "Hand in the money quickly, and then go home." The perpetrators refused to write any receipt for the fines after being paid. They put the money into their own pockets.

In August 2000, the perpetrators illegally detained over thirty practitioners. They held a brainwashing session for the practitioners, and demanded everyone to pay a fine of 600 yuan and write a guarantee statement promising not to practice Falun Gong. Each practitioner was told to find another person to guarantee that the practitioner would behave according to the written statement. In October the perpetrators carried out another round of arrests. All practitioners who were found with Falun Gong books would be fined or sent to forced labor camps. Eight to ten practitioners were illegally fined. The perpetrators extorted more than 20,000 yuan from the practitioners.

In December 2001, the perpetrators illegally arrested more than twenty practitioners and fined everyone 3,000 to 5,000 yuan (totaling 60,000 to 80,000 yuan). They persecuted practitioners at will with methods such as physical abuse, fines, detention, ransacking homes and imposing prison terms.

Those who actively persecuted Falun Gong practitioners and caused great suffering to the practitioners' families are as follows:

Zhang Ruzhen and Zhang Guocen from the 610 Office of Ningjin County.

Zhong Fuyong, deputy director of the Public Security Bureau of Ningjin County.

Guo Feng, Gao Shoushan, Zhang Jie and Liu Yanchao from the Politics and Protection Department.

Practitioner Mr. Li Dianzhong started to practice Falun Gong  in 1997. He was diligent in his practice, and got rid of many unhealthy addictions. After the persecution started, he was sentenced to a forced labor camp for three years. In 2004 he was tortured to death at age forty in the forced labor camp. He left behind two children.

Practitioner Mr. Qi Guoshui was very active in organizing local practitioners to study the principle of Falun Gong and do the exercises. After the persecution started on July 20, 1999, Qi Guoshui became afraid and stopped organizing group studies and exercises. He was a member of the Communist Party and knew how vicious the Communist Party could be when persecuting people. The police often harassed him at home. Under pressure, Qi gradually gave up Falun Gong. A year later, he died from illness. His son said, "My father was healthy when practicing Falun Gong. It is Jiang Zemin's persecution of Falun Gong that caused my father to die."

Practitioner Mr. Li Huaiqing, 60, was a kind-hearted retired teacher. He started to practice Falun Gong in 1998. In 2001 he was arrested for practicing Falun Gong and sent to prison. In the prison he was deprived of sleep and endured huge mental pressure. In 2003 he passed away due to a heart ailment.

Practitioner Mr. Liu Jinlong was arrested, and the police knocked him down to the ground when he said that he still practiced Falun Gong.

Practitioner Mr. Wang Baocheng had his skin disorder cured after practicing Falun Gong. In 2000, he was sent to a brainwashing center. Later he was sentenced to three years of forced labor for refusing to give up practicing. He left behind two children and his father who was in poor health.

Mr. Li Jianguo is a practitioner from Balitang. He was arrested while distributing truth clarifying materials in Beijing. He was sentenced to five years in prison. He has a several month old infant at home.

Elderly practitioner Ms. Lv Xianzhi, in her sixties, from Liwang Village, was arrested and sent to prison for practicing Falun Gong. She was held more than two months in prison.

From April to May 2001, practitioners Yang Yun, Cao Ningyu and Wang Xiuying were arrested and had to pay a fine of more than 20,000 yuan.

In January 2002, the 610 Office and the National Security Bureau launched another round of arrests. They sent steadfast practitioners to the brainwashing center in Dezhou and fined everyone 3,000 yuan. The practitioners sent to the brainwashing center were, Chai Hongfen, Yang Yun, Dong Jianjun, Wang Fuli, Cao Shaoyun, Chai Junzhi, Song Yanping and an elderly female practitioner from Wangshi Village. In the brainwashing center, the perpetrators would not release the practitioners unless the practitioners promised not to practice Falun Gong. Their goal was to force the practitioners to give up their beliefs.

Practitioner Zhang Zhijuan told an official from the Politics and Protection Department: "I had many illnesses before. After practicing Falun Gong, I had all my illnesses cured. Tell me, isn't Falun Gong good?" Zhang Ruzhen and Guo Feng from Politics and Protection Department said, "We know you are a good person, but the higher authorities gave the orders that you could not practice Falun Gong. We are the guns of the Communist Party, and we'll shoot whoever disobeys the order. There is no room for you to state your reasons, and you are guilty for continuing your practice. You will be fined or sentenced to prison."

From April to May 2002, the 610 Office and the National Security Bureau arrested more than 30 practitioners. They forced everyone to pay a fee of 400 yuan for the brainwashing session. When practitioner Mr. Li Huaiqing was hospitalized for a heart attack, perpetrators Zhang Ruzhen and Guo Feng abducted his daughter (a non-practitioner, eight to nine months pregnant) to the brainwashing center and forced her to pay 400 yuan.

In August 2003, practitioner Mr. Chen Shude from Chenwanhou Village was reported to the police by some one. The National Security Bureau arrested him and extorted 3,000 to 5,000 yuan from him.

In December 2003, Guo Feng from the 610 Office arrested practitioner Wang Honghai. Wang Honghai was later forced to become homeless.

In March 2004, practitioners Wang Honghai and Zhang Jicheng were arrested without any warrants. They were sentenced to one year of forced labor. Zhang Xiuqin (Wang Honghai's wife) and Zhang Yanhua were arrested for writing letters to the National Security Bureau. Wang Honghai and his wife Zhang Xiuqin were both arrested and their child was left alone at home. Police officers Guo Feng and Yao Liguo, from the National Security Bureau, said brazenly, "Without evidence, we can still sentence them to prison."

During July to August 2004, unlawful people abducted practitioner Mr. Wang Fuli, who worked at the Construction Bank. As a condition for his release, the perpetrators demanded 50,000 yuan from Mr. Wang's family. After Wang's parents brought in the money, the perpetrators still refused to release him and asked for an additional 12,000 yuan. Then they sent Wang to a brainwashing center in Ji'nan City. They forced Mr. Wang to promise to give up Falun Gong; only then did they release him.

In November 2004, the National Security Department intended to arrest practitioner Mr. Liu Chunlai. Liu learned the news and left his home. Liu Chunlai's wife, Zhang Yanhua, went to the county appeals office and asked, "Why have you deceived us and arrested us again and again. What crime have we committed? We were fined many times, but there was never a receipt for the fine." Police officer Zhou Fuyong and Guo Feng of the Public Security Bureau fabricated a story to frame Ms. Zhang Yanhua and arrested her. Zhang was sentenced to three years. Zhang Yanhua's family borrowed money and sent gifts to the authorities worth 40,000 to 50,000 yuan. On February 1, 2005, Zhang Yanhua was released.

For several years, authorities from the 610 Office and the National Security Bureau of Ningjin County sentenced practitioners Li Chenggang (Jiangzhuang of Xiaodian), Dong-Yie-Sheng-Zhi, Li Xiantong, Li Xiansheng, Wang Baocheng, Li Dianzhong, Wang Guoen, and Wang Haitang to forced labor camps. Practitioners Cao Shaoyun, Zhen Qinghua, Jin Jinhua, Wang Honghai, Zhang Jicheng, Wang Fuli, Zhang Yanhua and others were fined and placed under house arrest.

Liaoning Provincial Women's Prison Treats Falun Gong Practitioners as Slave Laborers

Located in a northwestern suburb of Shenyang City, Liaoning Provincial Women's Prison has ten groups. Each group has six squadrons. Falun Gong practitioners are held in all squadrons. Other than criminal prisoners, each squadron has five to six Falun Gong practitioners. Besides being forcefully brainwashed, prison guards also force them to do slave labor such as sewing, making handicrafts, medical equipments, sanitary napkins, cosmetics, food and gardening.

The prison is not equipped with a production workshop. The prison accepts orders for export from factories, which normally have higher standards, are more difficult to make, and require faster delivery. Each prison group has technical and quality control personnel from the purchasing factories. They usually ride on the buses provided by the prison. On the morning of October 10 this year, several trucks were seen to deliver personnel and material from 4 or 5 different factories.

The photo above shows a truck loaded with materials parked in front of the prison. Packing boxes show the brand name of "Jintianyu" magnetic vibration health series, which belongs to the Shenyang Leisure and Health Development Company (address: 79 Sanhao St., Heping Section, Shenyang City; Tel: 86-24-22948660, 86-24-22947708; postal code: 110004).

The receiving room located on the left side of the front entrance has no window. After registering at the receiving room, the delivery personnel call the guard responsible for production to lead them inside. Prison guards treat Falun Gong practitioners and prisoners like working machines. They start working from 6 a.m. until 9-10 p.m. When the workload is heavy, they are to work overtime until midnight or even into the early hours of the morning. Every day they are required to sign the work sheet. If they don't finish their quotas, their living expenses are deduced or frozen (money from family members is deposited with group captains). They'll be beaten if they don't have any money.

Falun Gong practitioners are unlawfully imprisoned there. They do not have any free time. They are allowed only 5-6 minutes for eating a meal. Since they don't have time to wash their eating utensils they just use toilet paper to wipe them clean. Washing for clothing is limited to 10 minutes and they are often unable to finish washing because there are not enough faucets available for so many people. In 2004, Falun Gong practitioner Chai Shijin's finger was pierced while sewing. According to a report, after they finished their regular work at 9 p.m., they were told to make flowers until 1 to 2a.m., during the period from March 16 to July 10, 2004. They were not allowed to work in the shop and had to take the work to their dormitories. Recently there was a rush job from Haolilai Food Factory; they will thus suffer more for it.

Another report indicates that prisoners were forced to work overtime during the period from November 17 to December 31, 2003. They started to work from 5 in the morning until 1 to 2 next morning, sometimes even to 5 a.m. Every day they were allowed only 1-2 hours of resting. On December 13, 2003, Falun Gong practitioner Li Xiyun suffered a heart attack and died due to exhaustion and lack of sleep.

Practitioners Jin Yongnan and Jin Chengquan of Tumen City, Jilin Province, Suffer Persecution

Falun Gong Practitioners Jin Yongnan and Jin Chengquan of Tumen City in Jilin Province firmly hold to their belief in Falun Gong. They have been persecuted by the Tumen City Detention Center, the Yuegong Street Police Station, the Helong Cultural Police Station, the Yinmahe Forced Labor Camp of Jiutai in Jilin Province, the Yanji Forced Labor Camp, the Shixian Town Paper Manufacturing Factory, the Nursing Home Brainwashing Center in Tumen City, the Jilin Jail and many others. Here are the facts of how they were persecuted.

Mr. Jin Yongnan is now 57 years old. He had severe hepatitis and low blood pressure as a young man. He could not do heavy farm work and lived in extreme poverty. After he began practicing Falun Gong in 1994, his blood pressure became normal and the pain from his liver no longer tormented him. He became energetic and healthy through practicing Falun Gong. His business and family life also gradually changed for better, and his family moved into a new home. However, after only several months in the new home, the vicious persecution invaded their lives.

In March 2000, Jin Yongnan went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was sent back into the custody of the local police and illegally held at Tumen City Detention Center for a month. The police extorted 2,300 yuan from his family.

In January 2001, Jin Yongnan was suddenly illegally arrested and taken to the Shixian Town Paper Manufacturing Factory's Nursing Home in Tumen City by Jin Changzhu and others from the Yuegong Street Police Station. There he encountered inhumane brainwashing organized by a person with the surname of Pu (from the Justice Bureau), along with the collaboration of the 610 Office, Yuegong Street Police Station, and the Tumen City Politics and Judicial Committee Secretary Wang Baozhong. The detainees were tormented beginning around 4 to 5 a.m. and continuing until between 9 p.m. or often until 12 a.m. They were monitored around the clock and forced to run long distances, perform physical exercises, watch videos that defame Falun Gong, and stand for long periods of time while enduring personal attacks and cursing.

Jin Yongnan would not give up practicing Falun Gong, so he was transferred from the brainwashing center to the detention center. Later, he was transferred back to the brainwashing center. He was finally set free in mid-April.

In June 2002, Jin Yongnan was arrested in Yanji, while clarifying the truth about Falun Gong, by police officers from the Helong Cultural Police Station and beaten by the police officers.

In July 2002, Jin Yongnan was sent to Yinmahe Forced Labor Camp in Jiutai, Jilin Province. Jin Yongnan was locked in solitary confinement and tied to a bed for 40 days. Jin Yongnan stopped eating and drinking for 17 days in protest of the persecution. He was held for nearly 10 months and then transferred to Yanji Forced Labor Camp. He was detained beyond his term and not released until July of 2003.

Six months after Jin Yongnan returned home, on February 4, 2004, several police officers from Yuegong Street Local Police Station surrounded his home. They broke in and confiscated all the Falun Gong books and truth-clarification materials they could find. That day, Jin was locked up in an upstairs room of the Tumen City National Security Group. The police interrogated him with torture for six days and nights trying to obtain the location of a materials production site and the names of more practitioners. During those six days they deprived him of sleep and put an iron hat on his head. Two police officers took turns cruelly beating him with wooden sticks. The sticks broke on Jin Yongnan's head, leaving large swellings on his head as evidence. Many parts of Jin's body were injured. His clothing was covered in blood and one leg was left disabled from the torture. The police burned his palms with cigarettes butts, covered his mouth with sticky tape to suffocate him, used a toothpick to prick open the wound on his head and continued to demand the source of the materials. They threatened to torture him to death and call it suicide. They said they would take no responsibility for their actions. They did not give him any food or water during the six days.

Falun Gong practitioner Jin Chengquan, 30 years old, is also from Tumen City. Jin Chengquan began to practice Falun Gong in 1994. In January 2001, he expressed support for his family members who practice Falun Gong. For this, the Yuegong Street Police Station of North Tumen City arrested and detained him for 15 days at the Tumen City Detention Center.

In August 2001, the Yuegong Street Local Police Station arrested Jin Chengquan from home. They took him to a brainwashing class held at the Shixian Town Paper Manufacturing Factory's nursing home in Tumen City. He managed to escape in the same day.

On June 7, 2002, Jin Chengquan was taken to the Helong City Criminal Police Unit. His computer, printer and other equipment used for producing truth-clarification material (valuing over 7,000 yuan), were confiscated. The police pressed him to reveal the name of another practitioner. Jin Chengquan did not answer, and suffered inhuman torture at the hands of the Helong City Criminal Police Unit for not cooperating.

The Helong City Criminal Police Unit cuffed his hands and feet, and then beat him with a wooden stick of about 3 cm in diameter until the stick broke in half. The police kicked his legs with leather shoes causing him to have difficulty walking afterwards. They did not give him any food or water from that morning until 9 p.m. He was sent to Helong City Detention Center the same night.

At 5 p.m. on June 13, 2002, Jin Chengquan was interrogated by six policemen. During the interrogation, Jin was restrained in handcuffs and shackles usually used on prisoners sentenced to the death penalty. The policemen took him into a forest located 60 miles from Helong City. They carried enough food for 15 days. They persecuted him brutally; threatening to throw his body into the Tumen River if he was killed during their interrogation. They said they would then claim it was the body of a North Korean stowaway who died from hunger.

The police hung Jin Chengquan in the air with handcuffs and leg shackles on. Beginning near midnight, they beat him. The handcuffs became tighter and tighter; they cut into his flesh and the pain penetrated his bones. The six policemen took turns beating him until they were out of breath. They kicked and punched him, and fiercely slapped him with a "blacksnake" (a type of torture instrument used to whip the victim). Then they covered his mouth with sticky tape, and forced burning cigarettes into both of his nostrils, forcing him to inhale them. After six cigarettes, he fainted. At that point they poured cold water on him to bring him around so they could continue the torture.

As a result of the torture, Jin Chengquan's heart on the left side became swollen. He suffered dysuria, was unable to carry anything over 15 kilograms and sustained long-term memory damage. His backbone was injured, the back of his head sustained injuries and his vision remains blurred. The police feared that he might die, so they requested 1,700 yuan from his family to take him to Yanbian Hospital for care. During an illegal trial, Jin Chengquan told the public prosecutors about the torture he suffered during the interrogation and the resulting damage to his mind and body. The public prosecutors turned a deaf ear to his testimony.

In November 2002, Jin Chengquan was sentenced to five years imprisonment for the so-called crime of "destructing law implementation." He was sent to Jilin Prison on February 25, 2003. He was placed in the 10th group on February 26, 2003, where he again suffered inhuman persecution. The prisoners there were ordered to persecute practitioners and try to force them to betray the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The police implemented a grading system to mark and reward the level of violence demonstrated by the prisoners.

Jin Chengquan was taken to the water house, his head was smashed into the wall, he was punched and kicked, beaten with a rubber hose and his beard and eyebrows were burned off while the police joked and laughed about torturing him. The police even pulled off Jin Chengquan's clothes seven to eight times a day to assault his testicles and pinch his inner thighs. His inner thighs became full of bloody scabs. Then they forced him to sit on an uneven wooden board with his legs crossed and his body straight from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. Jin Chengquan's weight dropped to less than 35 kilograms from the torture.

The prison uses many means of heavy discipline and confinement. They tie people to a bed until the flesh becomes rotten. The detainee's arms and legs are stretched out and forcibly cuffed to a bed. This can cause a person's joints to stretch and become disabled. Two Falun Gong practitioners and several prisoners held in this way died from torture. After they died, the police forced the prisoners to lie for them in return for reduced terms and privileges. If anyone lets the truth slip, they are punished by being forced to squat in a small cell and strictly supervised. The police insanely persecute practitioners to get bonuses. Jin Chengquan suffered 26 days of torture that were worse than dying.

Persecution at the Changchun Forced Labor Camp

The Jilin Province Women's Forced Labor Camp is also known as the Changchun City Heizuizi Women's Forced Labor Reform School. The mailing address of the labor camp is: Mail Box 1085, Jilin 130022. Ninety percent of the detainees in the labor camp are practitioners, seven percent are religious believers not approved by the Chinese government, and only about three percent are criminals. The detained practitioners are accused of "Disturbing the Social Order."

The Jilin Province Women's Forced Labor Camp's focus is to persecute practitioners. However, to hide their brutal persecution from the outside world, the Chinese Communist Party has falsified evidence and changed the name of the labor camp to the Changchun City Heizuizi Women's Forced Labor Reform School. The prison guards call the detainees "students" and frequently threaten them by saying, "Always remember that no matter how old you are or what your title was, if you are here, you are criminals who must work."

The detainees are divided into seven groups that are then divided into groups, with each group monitored by a prison guard. The groups are further divided into sub-groups consisting of three or more people with a sub-group leader. Practitioners are put in the middle of the sub-groups and closely monitored by the sub-group leader. In a group, detainees are forced to stay a distance of one meter apart. They have to work, eat, sleep, and use the restroom together. They are not allowed to talk with each other or with detainees from other sub-groups. Anyone who violates these rules is reported. Each group has four "study coordinators" assigned by the prison guards to persecute the practitioners.

In each group, there is a special group called the New Students Group that focuses on viciously torturing newly detained Falun Gong practitioners. This special group is headed by a group captain who specializes in brainwashing and a prison guard. The other guards also "help" persecute newly arrived practitioners, who have to stay in the special group for two months.

During this period, intensive brainwashing and physical tortures are administered simultaneously to try to force practitioners to give up the practice of Falun Gong. They force practitioners to watch videos, listen to audios, and read books that slander and defame Falun Gong. They also try to coerce practitioners to slander the practice.

If a practitioner refuses to write the "guarantee statements" or writes something that the prison guards do not like, the practitioner is tortured. If the practitioner is "lucky," she is not allowed to sleep before midnight or for a whole night and must stand all day and night, causing her legs to swelling. She is also cursed at daily. If the practitioner is "unlucky," however, she is beaten and shocked with electric batons. Even detainees younger than 20 years old or seniors in their 60s or 70s are not spared.

A practitioner in her 60s, suffering from high blood pressure, heart disease and poor vision, was tortured only because she believes Falun Gong is good. The guards beat her up until her mouth bled and shocked her with electric batons until her chest area was full of burn marks. Yet, they were unable to shake her belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." The prison guards then lied to her family members so they would misunderstand her.

It is common practice for the guards to spread lies that practitioners do not care about their families and to coerce family members to persuade practitioners to stop practicing Falun Gong. They also coerce the practitioners' husbands to divorce them and force employers to fire them.

After being persecuted in the New Students Group, the practitioner is further persecuted in other groups. The prison guard "talks" with practitioners every two or three days. As long as practitioners say "Falun Dafa is good," the guards torture them. Even words like "be kind," "be virtuous," or "be good" are not allowed to be spoken. Practitioners are also forced to attend brainwashing sessions that slander Falun Gong. If they refuse to attend, they are persecuted.

Practitioners have to work more than 12 hours a day during the weekdays and ten hours a day on the weekends. They are not allowed any breaks during the day or given any holidays. Even a robust person could not endure such a workload. Long work hours are against the forced labor camp's regulations. Still, the guards force group leaders to lie that practitioners only work until 3 p.m. every day with a lunch break and that they do not work on the weekends.

Practitioners who resist the persecution are brutally tortured. They are beaten up, not allowed to eat and drink, or use the restroom. However many days they do not work is how many days their term is extended. Director Yue of the labor camp said that everything they do is legal, and that they do not care if detainees appeal.

The head of the forced labor camp openly declared that the camp was open to the public for social monitoring. However, they violate human rights every day. They force practitioners to attend various kinds of brainwashing activities. If they refuse, the practitioners are beaten, shocked with electric batons, or have their terms illegally extended. One time, a practitioner was telling about the persecution of practitioners to an officer from a city 610 Office, who had come to collect information about the detained practitioners in the labor camp. When Director Chang of the labor camp's education section halted the conversation, the practitioner told Chang, "You are so unreasonable." Chang replied, "I do not need to be reasonable."

The camp's management rules are just for show. For example, although it's against the rules, prison guards still bring their family members' dirty laundry and shoes to the camp and force detainees to wash and clean them.

The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is still going on in China. The forced labor camps in particular are places for torturing practitioners.
