  • 610 Office in Luchuan County, Guangxi Province, Ruthlessly Tortures Falun Gong Practitioners

The 610 Office in Luchuan County, Guangxi Province, has once again launched a persecution campaign against Falun Gong practitioners. The 610 Office staff secretly planned the persecution strategy beforehand and held a meeting together with the managers of the related work units to discuss specifically how to implement the torture. They listed the practitioners targeted for persecution. Their plan was to go to Guangdong Province to arrest practitioner Zhong Rongji at work. The targets also included county middle school teacher, Xie Guixin, county first middle school teacher, Zhang Cuiyan, a retired teacher from Wangzhang Elementary School, Ye Ruijuan, merchant Chen Jiangyong, and others.

The county 610 Office printed and distributed a "transformation" form to all the related work units. They then forced every work unit to carry out forceful brainwashing by saying, "if practitioners are not transformed internally, your work unit will have to pay 20,000 'yuan' to the county 610 Office, which will then hire people from Guangxi Province who practiced Falun Gong before and have already accepted the brainwashing to work on transforming them." With these threats, the leader of each work unit was forced to approach the practitioners in their respective work units and try to get them to sign the form.

Practitioner Mr. Zhong Rongji was a teacher at Mapo Town 3rd Middle School in Luchuan County. He was once detained and tortured at Luchuan Detention Center for appealing in Beijing. Later he was sent to a labor camp in Nanning City. While in detention, Mr. Zhong firmly believed in Falun Gong and maintained righteous thoughts and deeds. Upon his release he persisted in practicing Falun Gong. The lawless authorities in the county education bureau ordered the Mapo 3rd middle school not to employ him again. Later he got a job in Guangdong Province. This July, Liu Guichu from the county 610 Office led a group to arrest Mr. Zhong and bring him back to Luchuan County. In order to protest the torture, Zhong Rongji has been on a hunger strike for about two months. The county 610 Office not only refuses to release him, but also claims, "If he still refuses to be transformed, he will be expelled from his school and sentenced to three years in a labor camp."

On July 15, under the incitement of the county 610 Office, the assistant secretaries in the Wenquan town government, Luo Weichao and Ye Yongchao, along with deputy mayor He Xin, led seven or eight thugs to break into practitioner Chen Jiangyong's home. For three days, they kept threatening him and demanding that he denounce Falun Gong. On the third day, July 17th, they illegally detained him for one day.

On July 23rd, eight people, including Luo Weichao, Ye Yongchao, He Xin, people from the national security group of the county police department, and the leader of Wanzhang Elementary School, persecuted retired teacher Ye Ruijuan. They broke into her home and threatened her. They forced the leader of her work unit and her family to interrogate her from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. They finally forced her son to sign a blank piece of paper.

On July 25th, some thugs from the county 610 Office directed the leaders from the county education bureau, county middle school, and county 1st middle school to brainwash practitioners Xie Guixin and Zhang Cuiyan. They forced them to fill out forms and write the "three guarantees." The 610 office threatened the school officials, saying that if the practitioners were not transformed, their schools would need to pay 20,000 yuan. They intended to incite hatred toward Falun Gong within the schools. From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. for Zhang), the two teachers were isolated and restrained. However, the evil plot did not work.

The 610 Office now plans to escalate the torture.

Here is a list of people responsible for persecution Falun Gong practitioners in Luchuan County:

Lu Huankun, male, the assistant secretary of the county committee and director of the county People's Congress representative: 86-13807752838. (This man is in charge of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. He often participates in secret planning of the persecution with the 610 Office. He himself assigns and pressures managers in related work units. He has criticized people during meetings for not doing enough to persecute practitioners. Under his threatening, many managers were forced to follow his orders.)

Liu Guichu, male, assistant director of the county 610 Office: 86-775-7227626. (This man holds a hostile attitude towards Falun Gong and Falun Gong practitioners. Since the formation of the county 610 Office in 1999, he has been the most active staff member in the 610 Office and participated in every persecutory campaign since 1999.)

Fan Bili, female, assistant director of the county 610 Office: 86-775-7226086, 86-775-7226080, 86-13197655363 (Cell). (Since she took her position in the 610 Office, she has been actively participating in the persecution of practitioners)

Qiu Shuhua, male, deputy chief specializing in dealing with Falun Gong issues in the county . He is also a member of the 610 Office: 86-775-7339568, 86-13807752251 (Cell). (This man is hostile toward Falun Gong and practitioners. He directs all movements arresting practitioners in the county. Meanwhile, he often leads his team to places outside the county to arrest practitioners. He also stole large sums of money extorted from practitioners and their families.)

He Leiguang, male, instructor of the national security section of the county police department: 86-775-7332554, 86-13517552089 (Cell). (Being one of the main thugs carrying out the persecution of Falun Gong, this man has participated in numerous arrests and interrogations of practitioners. He also performed a lot of paperwork related to persecuting practitioners since 1999. Most of the materials regarding practitioners being sentenced or sent to labor camps are penned by him.)

Ms. Wan Hongxia Was Illegally Sentenced to Three Years

Ms. Wan Hongxia is a practitioner from Langfang, Tianjin City. Because she did not give up practicing Falun Gong, the local police arrested her in June and sent her to a brainwashing center as well as a detention center for further persecution. Because of the torture she was forced to endure, Ms. Wan can no longer take care of herself. Nevertheless, she was illegally sentenced to three years.

Ms. Wang was an employee of the Qianfeng Machine Plant. Before taking up the practice of Falun Gong, she used to have many illnesses. Severely injured in her youth, her ribs and legs were broken and she once had a brain tumor that caused severe pain and later paralysis on one side of the body. Although she went to see doctors in many hospitals, the illnesses did not improve but instead became worse. After Ms. Wan started practicing Falun Gong, her health improved dramatically and the illnesses did not come back. In this way, she helped both her employer and the nation reduce medical expenses.

Ms. Wan used to have a happy and harmonious family. After Jiang's regime began to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Wan could no longer live a peaceful life. Because she did not give up her belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance," she was illegally detained four times, and her employment was terminated.

One day in 2001 at 2 a.m., seven or eight police officers broke into Ms. Wan's home. Upon entering, they handcuffed Ms. Wan's husband, then started to brutally beat Ms. Wan. They grabbed her hair and dragged her from one room to another, yanking out plenty of hair in the process. Ms. Wan was beaten so badly that she had a problem with urinary incontinence. There were bruises all over her body, and her face was swollen. The policemen's violent actions woke up the neighbors. They wanted to come up to stop the brutality but were stopped by the police in the stairway. Finally, several policemen took Ms. Wan's husband downstairs and stuffed him into the car. The police also took away the couple's licenses, personal documents and other personal electronic devices such as their cell phones, which still have not been returned.

After her husband was taken away, Ms. Wan managed to stand up and run after the police to ask them why they had taken their belongings. When the police refused to answer, Ms. Wan was so upset that she collapsed to the ground. People at the scene were very angry. Weren't the police behaving like bandits? Ms. Wan's family members went to the police station afterwards to ask about it. The police were very rude and threatened to detain them for interfering.

After Ms. Wan's husband was detained for more than half a year, he was illegally sent to Tangshan Forced Labor Camp for three years. The police later returned to his home to harass Ms. Wan, who had no choice but leave her home due to the constant harassment.

Nobody was available to care for their child, a teenager, who was facing college entrance exams when the father was arrested and the mother was forced to leave home. The child was afraid that the police would come, so dared not stay at home. With its parents missing, the child did not do well at school or at home. Under such enormous pressure, the child did poorly in the exams. When the child wanted to try for one more year, the school officials did not allow it. Instead they pressured the child for the mother's whereabouts.

Ms. Wan's husband eventually returned home. To make a living, he borrowed money and bought a car. Soon after, however, the police held the car in the police station for more than one month in order to pressure him for Ms. Wan's whereabouts. They also went to Ms. Wan's relatives--no matter how close or distant--to look for her.

On June 17 of this year, the police from the Langfang Police Department arrested Ms. Wan. The same day, the police also stopped her husband, who was then working as a taxi driver, in the middle of the road and detained him. That afternoon the police went to ransack their home and confiscate their property. Everything was in such a mess that it remains unknown how many things were lost since both husband and wife were arrested.

At 5 p.m. on the same day, seven or eight police officers went to Ms. Wan's younger brother's home and her mother's home to search, but were refused entry. Later, Ms. Wan's family members went to the police station several times to ask about the whereabouts of the couple, but the police said that they did not know anything about it. The police had arrested the couple and then refused to admit it. Their family members, very worried, went again to the police station to ask about the couple's whereabouts. The police did not only did not tell them but also video-recorded the process, apparently to plot against them. When she was questioning the police, Ms. Wan's mother walked up to stop them from videotaping, when one of the officers brutally kicked her. Ms. Wan's mother, almost 70 years old, was kicked to the ground and developed a big bump on her head.

More than two months have passed, and Ms. Wan is still illegally detained. The police first sent her to a brainwashing center located in the Jiaotong Hotel for mental persecution. Later, they sent her to a detention center for further persecution. Ms. Wan used to be very healthy but is now very sick, and her old illnesses have recurred. Right now, half of her body does not function well, she cannot walk, and she cannot take care of herself. Nevertheless the police have not released her and have even sentenced her to three years' hard labor. She even had to be carried to the court for the so-called trial.

We hope people can pay attention to the unreasonable persecution that Ms. Wan is experiencing and support her.

Guo Shuyan Tortured in the Zhaozhou County Prison and the Changji Forced Labor Camp

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Guo Shuyan began to practice Falun Gong in 1996. After the persecution against Falun Gong started in 1999, the authorities brutally persecuted Mr. Guo many times. Mr. Guo was imprisoned twice at the Zhaozhou Detention Center in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. Then, officials of the Changji Police Department in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region sentenced Mr. Guo to three years in a forced labor camp. Mr. Guo was sent to the Xinjiang Changji Forced Labor Camp where he was brutally persecuted..

On June 21, 2000, Mr. Guo went to a picture exhibition held by the Harbin Provincial Museum. As it defamed and slandered Falun Gong, he left a message clarifying the truth about Falun Gong. The police from the Daqing Oil Tenth Factory Public Security Division arrested Mr. Guo and detained him at the Zhaozhou County Detention Center in Daqing City. Fifteen days later, they transferred him to the Zhaozhou County Prison for further persecution. On the third day at the prison, Mr. Guo and other practitioners did the Falun Gong exercises. Guard Wang Zhong saw it on the monitor, so he picked up a leather belt, rushed to their prison cell and reprimanded them. Wang ordered them to stand in a line and then hit their backs with the belt. Afterwards, Wang took them to the director's office. Director Li Qinghe and Deputy Director Sun Wenzhi ordered a few prisoners to put shackles on the three practitioners' ankles.

The iron shackles weighed 66 lbs., so Mr. Guo couldn't straighten his back because he had to carry them. As Mr. Guo walked painstakingly back to his cell, holding the chains in his hands, his ankles turned red and became swollen from the friction. When Mr. Guo walked into his cell, guard Wang Zhong asked a prisoner to take "good care" of him. The prisoner quickly rushed towards Mr. Guo and punched his chest many times, causing him to have blurred vision. Deputy Director Sun Wenzhi asked Mr. Guo if he would continue to practice Falun Gong. Mr. Guo replied yes, so Sun asked a prisoner to put handcuffs on him. Within a few hours, his hands became numb from dragging the heavy iron shackles with both hands cuffed behind his back. Therefore, the guards took off the handcuffs and shackles. A few days later, Director Li Qinghe attempted several times to force Mr. Guo to write a "guarantee statement", renouncing Falun Gong. He refused. Li ordered prisoners to put a torture instrument "Jiabo" that weighed over 100 lbs. on Mr. Guo's neck, hands and feet. This prevented him from being able to move and he had problems breathing when trying to sleep at night. This painful torture lasted over 20 hours.

Mr. Guo still refused to write the guarantee statement. Director Li Qinghe ordered prisoners to torture him with the "wall ring." There were 4 iron rings attached to a wall, two on the top and two at the bottom. The prisoners stretched Mr. Guo's arms and legs into an X-shape and cuffed his hands and ankles in the rings for over three hours. Mr. Guo was in excruciating pain and sweated profusely. During that time, Mr. Guo's co-worker came to visit him. Therefore, the guards released him, fearing the torture would be exposed. Mr. Guo still refused to write the guarantee statement. After the visitor left, Li said Mr. Guo didn't respect him and brutally slapped his face three times. Li said that was only a minor punishment and ordered four prisoners to take him to an open field. The prisoners took off his clothes and pushed him to the ground. They used an "old-cow hammer" to hit Mr. Guo continuously. He screamed because of the pain. After beating Mr. Guo 20 times, Li again asked him if he would continue the practice Falun Gong. Li took over the old-cow hammer and beat Mr. Guo until his back and buttocks were covered with cuts and bruises. The injury did not heal for a long time. After 17 days of torture, Mr. Guo's family was allowed to take him home.

One night in late December of 2000, Yang Mingjie, Director of the Daqing Oil Tenth Factory Police Station, and three other policemen arrested Mr. Guo. They searched him. Li Shaohong, the head of the Political Security Section of the Daqing Oil Tenth Factory Public Security Division, and Officer Sha (first name unknown) again arrested Mr. Guo and took him to the Zhaozhou County Prison. Mr. Guo had a fever that night and didn't eat anything for eight days. He became so weak that they sent him home.

In December of 2001, Mr. Guo clarified the truth about Falun Gong in Hetian City, the Xinjiang Autonomous Region. Director Chen and two officers from the Xinjiang Hetian Police Department arrested Mr. Guo and detained him in the basement of the bureau. During the interrogation, officer Tuluhong (an Uygur) slapped Mr. Guo's face when he answered, "I don't know." After 16 days, they transferred Mr. Guo to the Hetian District Prison. Mr. Guo refused to memorize the prison rules. Kang (first name unknown) and three Uygur policemen dragged him into the hallway and shackled him to a wall. The police beat him with police batons until his back was red and swollen. Mr. Guo couldn't sleep on his back because of the pain. The police sentenced him to three years at the Changji Forced Labor Camp in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region.

In September of 2002, Mr. Guo refused to participate in labor camp activities. The so-called "Law Enforcement Team," in charge of persecuting Falun Gong, took him to an office. Those present were Gu Jianhai, a re-education instructor; Tian Hu, Captain of the 6th Group; Ma Longyue, head of the re-education instructors; Chen Jiang, Captain of the 9th Group; and Captain Li. They asked Mr. Guo why he didn't participate in activities. Mr. Guo replied, "I practice Falun Gong and am a good person. I am not guilty and not at fault. I refuse to participate in camp activities where I'm imprisoned illegally." Captain Li, Ma Longyue, and Chen Jiang forced Mr. Guo to take off his coat and handcuffed him. He sat on the floor and Li, Ma, and Chen shocked his legs with electric batons. The high voltage torture caused him to lose consciousness. Two days later, Tian Hu ordered two Uygur prisoners, Aikebai and Aihaitawo, to take Mr. Guo to a tomato field. They forced him to run in the sun until he collapsed.

One morning in April 2003, Zhang Yan, an instructor, Gu Jianhai, and Chen Jiang, asked about ten Uygur and Han prisoners to handcuff Mr. Guo and Mr. Chen Yujiang, another practitioner. The prisoners forced them to walk back and forth in a wooded area until the evening. That night Mr. Guo had a fever and his stomach swelled up and was in pain. The third day Mr. Guo vomited blood. Zhang Yan and Gu Jianhai were afraid to take responsibility for Mr. Guo's condition, so they sent him to the Wujiaqu City Hospital in a car. Mr. Guo was diagnosed with gastritis and cholecystitis (inflammations in the stomach and gall bladder). Mr. Guo could only drink liquid food for several months. His health has been getting worse.

We also learned that Falun Gong practitioners, Zhao Aijun and Zhong Kai, who were persecuted at the Changji Forced Labor Camp, went on a hunger strike. They were force-fed through tubes for over 20 days. Other practitioners imprisoned in the camp, including Chen Yujiang, Wang Lifeng, Xu Baoquan, and Yan Weihong. Chen Yujiang and Xu Baoquan have become very ill from the persecution. Yan Weihong and Wang Lifeng went on a hunger strike and were force-fed through tubes for three months. Yan and Wang became emaciated because of the persecution and their lives were in danger. The camp thus allowed their families to take them home.

We request compassionate people to help Falun Gong practitioners who are imprisoned and are suffering inhumane persecution at the Xinjiang Changji Forced Labor Camp.

Ms. Li Zhifen Paralyzed After Thirteen Days of Torture at Shandong Second Women's Forced Labor Camp

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Zhifen, who lived on Longdu Street, Zhucheng City, Shandong Province, was illegally arrested and sent to the Shandong Second Women's Forced Labor Camp on August 31, 2005. After being persecuted for 13 days, Ms. Li became paralyzed and could no longer eat or talk.

On the night of August 2, Ms. Li and three other practitioners were clarifying the facts when police officer Sun, around the age of thirty, tracked them and reported them to the police station. Ms. Li and the others were consequently arrested and detained at the criminal detention center. The next day, their homes were illegally confiscated. At the detention center, each of the four practitioners was force-fed. Afterwards some of them vomited blood, excreted blood, suffered from dizziness, or suffered generalized pain.

On August 30, Ms. Li was riding in a taxi to the local primary school to pick up her child when police officer Zhou Zhong arrested her. She was handcuffed and illegally detained at the city's Security Detention Center. On the morning of August 31, official Xu Guangrong and police officer Zhou Zhong arrested Ms. Li and several other practitioners. Ms. Li and the others were sent to Shandong Second Women's Forced Labor Camp, located in Wang Village, Zibo City, for three years of re-education through forced labor.

At Shandong Second Women's Forced Labor Camp, Ms. Li was detained in the Fourth Group. As soon as she arrived, she was forced to sit on a 20-centimeter-wide stool and not permitted to move. She refused to cooperate with the authorities. On the third day, the deputy leader of the Fourth Group refused to let her sleep.

At 2 p.m. on the fourth day, September 11, Ms. Li was persecuted so badly that symptoms of a stroke appeared and she fell into a coma. The police pinched her Renzhong acupuncture point to awaken her. Upon regaining consciousness, Ms. Li's could no longer move the right side of her body. She could not eat, drink, or swallow medicine. Police officers Sun still did not allow her to sleep on a bed. He threw away her blankets and said to her, "Don't you dare tell people about this. We did not persecute you."

That night Ms. Li was sent to the forced labor camp hospital for treatment. Nonetheless, after only one day, Ms. Li was returned from the hospital and the torture continued. She was monitored by several guards and not allowed to sleep. The police also drew boundaries as to where she could sit and where her feet could lie. She was not allowed to move outside those boundaries.

The police then realized that they could no longer handle her situation, so they ordered her family to take her home. When the family went to pick her up, personnel at the forced labor camp charged the family 1500 yuan for her medical costs.

A Labor Camp Inmate: The Horrific Tortures Used on Falun Gong Practitioners in a Beijing Forced Labor Camp for Women

I was sent to a forced labor camp because I was addicted to drugs. I was assigned to the 2nd group and designated as one of the "clampdown personnel," who were prison inmates assigned to oversee the activities of Falun Gong practitioners. Through the performance of my duties, I became acquainted with various reprehensible and deceitful methods employed to isolate and monitor people.

In that filthy place, we served our prison terms in an environment of fear, anxiety and dread. Simple careless mistakes drew rebukes and dark looks. More severe cases led to a loss of points and tougher conditions for us all. These methods were used on us to systematically tighten the supervision and management of our responsibilities, which were to "clampdown" on Falun Gong practitioners by order of the group leader.

In our hearts, we went against our consciences by collaborating with prison officials to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

Our performances were rated, and the group leader set the standards. Sometimes, in order to gain the approval of the group leader and obtain leniency and privileges for ourselves, we were driven to extremes, finding excuses to beat and insult the innocent practitioners. The prison supervisor favored inmates who frequently beat and scolded the practitioners. These goons routinely violated prison regulations, and the supervisor usually turned a blind eye, treating the situation as though it never happened. In addition, they expressed their approval with warm smiles. In this unfair setting, it wasn't unusual for us to sympathize with the victims.

The policy toward those who were "transformed" was to maintain continuous monitoring and surveillance to prevent "relapses and resistance." For those who refused to be transformed, the most basic human needs were denied, and manipulative punishment tools were designed to break their spirits. Hunger, cold, exhaustion, physical pain, filth and humiliation were used. To those who showed resilience and resistance, beatings, rebukes, insults and urine suppression methods were routinely applied. I will summarize and describe a few of the methods of torture used to "reform" people. Most of the "clampdown personnel" in our group have beaten and insulted Falun Gong practitioners, in breach of re-education center rules and regulations.

Hunger (starvation): Those to be reformed were fed only a thin vegetable broth and half a steamed bun a day. In addition, mental and physical pressure were used to torment practitioners. This method can cause a person to lose two to three pounds a day. Practitioners were required to make a formal request for a meal. Specifically, they were to report to the group leader, state their name and station, and request a meal, in much the same way that a military recruit might be required to. Anyone who failed to follow this rule wasn't fed. This resulted in many practitioners implementing hunger strikes in protest. Those who went on hunger strikes were then force fed. If the person were lucky, a physician conducted the force-feeding. If the supervisor was in a foul mood, several "clampdown" prisoners would force the victim down, tie her to her bed, pry her mouth open, and then pour food down her throat. Oftentimes a victim's face would be full of tears because of the agony she suffered while being subjected to this barbaric treatment.

Freezing: Because those to be reformed had to make reports on everything, when the weather turned cold, they needed to file a report requesting additional warm clothing. At this time, the "clampdown personnel" were secretly instructed to ignore the requests and respond, "The supervisor on duty is unavailable to grant the request." Actually, the supervisor was always on duty in the outer corridor. The victims were left to freeze and shiver in the cold, silently enduring the mistreatment, sometimes becoming ill due to exposure.

Exhaustion (sleep deprivation): The victims were roused from sleep early in the morning at 5 a.m. There was no fixed "lights out" time, because the victim's bedtime depended on her transformation performance for the day. (A practitioner might be kept up as late a 3 a.m. before being allowed to sleep.)

Physical pain: Practitioners had to endure the sitting punishment every day. The victims were required to sit on a 60-70 cm wide stool with both legs and feet together. Both hands and arms were to be placed on the lap. The back was to be kept straight. Eyes were to be kept looking forward, and the victims were not allowed to move. Any movement was to be reported, so several "clampdown" inmates supervised the sitting punishment. Should the victim fail to fulfill the requirements they would be beaten. This punishment would eventually cause the victim's buttocks to develop weeping, festering sores. The agony they suffered was unimaginable. The victims sometimes requested to be allowed to stand, but they were always told, "Standing is corporal punishment." So the victim was forced to continue sitting. This would go on from early in the morning until late at night, until bedtime. Continuously, for 18 or 19 hours every day, with the exception of using restroom facilities, they were not allowed to break contact with the stool. In reality, sitting on the stool for extended periods of time is a far worse form of corporal punishment than being forced to stand.

Filth: Falun Gong practitioners were prohibited from washing their clothes, bathing, or washing their hair for long periods of time. Living in these conditions for so long, practitioners' hair turned wild and matted, as if it was stuck together with glue. The stench from the cells was unbearable. Oftentimes the victims were denied the use of toilet paper and given the excuse that the supervisor was not present.

Demoralization and humiliation: Normally, we were not allowed to show any sympathy for the victims. Insults, rebukes, scolding, and readings of propaganda materials that defamed Falun Gong were continuously employed in an effort to weaken the victim's resolve. The victims were compelled to listen. If they refused, inhuman torture methods, among them not allowing the victim to urinate, were used as a reforming tool with approval and praise of the group leader.

Beating and scolding: With the excuse that a victim had violated a prison regulation (such as failing to maintain the required posture during punishment) they were beaten, scolded and insulted, and told to "stop being stubborn and accept reform." The prison officials used ruthless drug addict inmates and criminals to punish and torture the victims. In so doing, the victims were prevented from lodging complaints directly against the group leader.

We were also in a precarious position. We couldn't trust anyone, with the exception of surreptitiously complaining to the victims. All benefits granted for successful transformations were awarded to the group leader. Any problems or complaints were attributed to us.

Note: In the victims' cells, the glass of the doors and windows were covered with white paper. A small opening was left, which was covered with blue tint. The guards and supervisors could look through the tint and see the practitioners inside, while those inside couldn't identify them. We frequently saw the supervisor passing by, peering through the windows, checking on the practitioners inside.

The above is my personal account of what I saw and experienced while I was at the forced labor camp. I have put it in writing to let everyone in the world know and see clearly how the Chinese Communist Party's so-called "re-education through labor" camp system persecutes innocent Falun Gong practitioners.

Two Incidents of Policeman Wei Wei's Torture of Practitioner Mr. Zhou Xiangyang in Tianjin City

Mr. Zhou Xiangyang, 32, of Tianjin City, was an engineer in the 3rd Surveillance and Design Intitute of the Railway Ministry. At the beginning of 2000, he was sent to the Shuangkou Forced Labor Camp in Tianjin for one and a half years. Then his term was extended for another year for no apparent reason and he was transferred to the Ji County Yushan Forced Labor Camp. When the additional one-year term ended, he was sent to the Jianxin Forced Labor Camp. Later on he was released due to the poor state of his health. On May 31, 2003, he was arrested again, put in the Hexi District Jail, and sentenced to nine years in prison. He was sent to Gangbei Prison on August 9, 2004.

Below is a description of two incidents of prison policeman Wei Wei in Tianjin City torturing Mr. Zhou Xiangyang:

Prison policeman Wei Wei, around 27 years old was a resident of Ji County, Tianjin City, Between 1999 and 2000, he was a policeman in the Shuangkou Forced Labor Camp in Tianjin. He was later transferred to the Yushan Forced Labor Camp in Ji County.

In the autumn of 2000, Wei Wei brought Zhou to a secret room in the Shuangkou Forced Labor Camp in order to beat him to force him to give up Falun Gong. Wei punched Mr. Zhou, knocked him to the ground, and asked him, "Do you still want to practice?" Mr. Zhou slowly stood up and then stared at Wei but did not answer. Wei yelled, "Nobody in this camp is not afraid of me," and began to punch and kick Zhou again. He knocked Zhou, whose face was all bleeding, to the ground, and asked him again, "Do you still want to practice?"

Zhou picked himself up slowly again and did not answer. Seeing that Mr. Zhou was undaunted, Wei madly slapped his face, until it was distorted, and knocked him to the ground again. After a short while, Mr. Zhou slowly got up again. Wei slapped him again. Mr. Zhou fell, but rose again. Wei screamed like mad, "I am going to beat you to death today!"

Wei picked up a big wooden baton and beat Mr. Zhou. This time, Mr. Zhou was knocked unconscious and fell to the ground. After a while he started to twitch. The twitches lasted for a while. He gradually regained consciousness, and struggled to stand up.

This time, Wei yelled, "Wait. You win, but please let me leave first before you stand up." He then took off in a hurry.

In the autumn of 2001, after being detained in the Shuangkou Forced Labor Camp in Tianjin City for one and a half years, Mr. Zhou was taken to the Ji County Yushan Forced Labor Camp in Tianjin for a one-year extension. He was put in Team I where prison guard Wei Wei was a policeman. The director of the team Li Zhang directed Wei to torture Zhou with electric batons to force him to give up Falun Gong.

Wei ordered the inmates to hold Zhou to the ground in the team warehouse, with his face up. Several inmates then held his hands, arms, feet and legs firm, while Wei used the electric baton to shock Zhou's mouth until his lips became swollen. Mr. Zhou said slowly, "You beat me up when we were at Shuangkou Forced Labor Camp. Now you torture me again. You will receive due retribution for what you do." Wei said, "Whatever Direct Li said goes. If we beat you to death, we'll just say that you committed suicide and bury you in the back of the hills."

Wei then turned Zhou's body face down, and shocked the back of his head, causing blisters to form and his scalp to burn. As the electric shocks continued, suddenly the electric baton burned out, while Mr. Zhou lost consciousness at the same time.

After the torture, Mr. Zhou declared that he was going on a hunger strike in protest. Once in the dinning hall, when everyone was seated, Wei said, "Did I tell you to sit? Stand up all of you, except for Zhou Xiangyang. I admire people who are not afraid to die." Wei then asked Zhou, "Tell me the truth, don't you want to eat when you see others enjoying their meals?" Mr. Zhou said, "I am not telling you anything."

Mr. Zhou was force-fed every day. In August 2002, when he was transferred to the Jianxin Forced Labor Camp in Tianjin, he was a mere skeleton. He told people, "I will not commit suicide, but I am using a hunger strike to protest their persecution."

The Tortures Practitioners Experience in the Sichuan Provincial Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp

In the Sichuan Provincial Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp, the authorities use all forms of torture and evil means to force the illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners into renouncing their beliefs.

In the beginning, Falun Gong practitioners are forced to read materials that slander Falun Gong. Disobeying this order will result in brutal beatings where practitioners have their heads knocked against walls, their hair torn out, their chests beaten, and their private parts assaulted with leather shoes. Thus their faces turn black and blue and become extremely swollen.

To prevent their evil deeds from being exposed, policemen and criminals normally beat Falun Gong practitioners in rest rooms and stuff their mouths with underwear or socks, so that no one can hear their painful screams..

They are locked up in small cells, surrounded by criminal inmates, forced to sit in the lotus position for long periods of time, and stand or sit in a drill posture for weeks on end, even up to two months duration. Books that slander Falun Gong are placed on top of their heads and if they fall down, all the practitioners will be punished. Female practitioners are stripped of their clothes, and are forced to raise their hands above their heads and face the wall, while the evil criminals take turns beating their backs.

Some practitioners are beaten so badly that they fall to the ground and go into a coma, but still the criminals and policemen continue to beat them. After one or two hours of beating, they spray cold water on them to bring them back to awareness, and then continue the torture. Some Falun Gong practitioners are hung up in trees, and their abdomens are beaten with sticks until bleeding. Some practitioners are beaten with steel hangers on their backs and waist, until they can no longer stand or sit steadily, and fall to the ground. Some inmates beat the practitioners' feet using shoe heels until their feet are so swollen that they have difficulty walking.

What is worse, Falun Gong practitioners are not allowed to have bowel movements or to urinate. Some practitioners are even forced to drink their own urine. Other practitioners are forced to do 500 continuous squats down and up, or run around the playground ten times, which tortures the older practitioner to the verge of the death.

In the eighth team, there are several evil persons including Li Qi, Chen Qi, Zhang Yuqin and Song Li. Criminal Song Li often beats practitioner in the restroom. Under her torture, three practitioners were forced to recant Falun Gong after twenty days of torture.

To deceive the outside and ingratiate their supervisors, the evil criminal inmates and those people who have been "transformed" force Falun Gong practitioners to give their fingerprints on prepared "transformation" letters or denouncement letters. Several evil persons take care of one practitioner, so they can announce, and take credit for, the certain practitioner that has been "transformed."

Practitioners Tortured in Jiamusi Labor Camp

Jiamusi Forced Labor Camp in Heilongjiang Province has two "teams" and detains over 100 Falun Gong practitioners in the male team, and over 50 practitioners in the female team. The No. 8 team is the team of old, weak, sick and disabled people. The practitioners are forced to sit on wooden chairs. All tables have been taken away so as not to allow them to lie prone, but other detainees can lie down in the bedrooms. It was policeman Liu Yadong's idea to force Falun Gong practitioners to sit in the chairs for the whole day. He has been persecuting Falun Gong practitioners over the past few years.

The No. 7 team didn't have work to do in late July. In order to allow the policemen to take a vacation, the labor camp forced Falun Gong practitioners to sit on chairs in rooms on the third floor every day from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., except the time when they ate or used the toilet. In the evening, they were ordered to move to the No. 8 team on the second floor to sleep. July and August are the hottest months in China's Northeast region. Over 30 people were squeezed in one room in the No. 7 team and there were over 20 people per room in the No. 8 team. The air indoors was very bad and it was stuffy and damp in the room due to continuous raining. Seven or eight Falun Gong practitioners in the No. 7 team didn't feel well and for some of them, this lasted for several months.

Many practitioners who had recovered from their old diseases and become healthy after starting to practice Falun Gong, had relapses of their old diseases or incurred new diseases, such as heart disease, hepatitis, hypertension, diabetes, etc, because they could not study Falun Gong books and practice the exercises for a long time and also because they suffered from brutal torture in addition to the heavy pressure and terrible food that everyday people cannot imagine. In addition, they could not receive proper treatment. Even when some practitioners went to see doctors at their own expense, the police didn't allow them to see their own physical examination results and only told those practitioners that they would not die. The police tried to shirk their responsibility.

The torture was so severe that some Falun Gong practitioners were injured, crippled and even paralyzed, and could not walk anymore. Yet the police still forced them to move together with other detainees. The police forced other Falun Gong practitioners to shoulder or pull these injured practitioners to move together no matter whether they were doing labor, weeding, eating, washing, or going upstairs or downstairs (many times the police didn't allow practitioners to shoulder other practitioners, but only to pull them). No matter what the age or physical condition of the other Falun Gong practitioners, they had to shoulder them whenever the police ordered them to do so. Some Falun Gong practitioners became worn out and developed new diseases. If practitioners made small, careless mistakes and didn't meet the policemen's requirements, the policemen would curse them right away.

On August 9, when policewoman Li Xiujin was on duty, she forced practitioners to do walking drills. She said fiercely, "If you march well, you can finish after practicing a few times. If you cannot do well, you have to walk until 8:00 p.m. and then go to bed directly without washing. Then you have to continue marching tomorrow, and if you still cannot do well, I will tell the next guard to monitor you to walk for a whole day, exposing you to strong sunshine." Police team head Wang Xin and Yu Wenbin forced Falun Gong practitioners to do these walking drills.

On August 10, policeman Zhang Miao was on duty. In the morning, a practitioner in the No. 8 team needed to go to the toilet but Zhang Miao didn't agree. That practitioner said he could not wait any more, so Zhang Miao woke everyone up to go to the toilet together and also cursed the practitioners. Zhang Miao woke up everyone, but he accused that practitioner, "Everyone has been awakened just because of you. If there are any complaints, you should be the one receiving them." He tried to cause more trouble this way.

On August 12, the labor camp posted polite language for police on the wall, but they still continued using dirty language. For the past few years, Li Xiujin has kept persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Policewomen Ying Hong, Zhang Miao, Mu Zhenjuan, and others often cursed and even beat Falun Gong practitioners. Polite language was almost never heard.

On August 14, policewoman Li Xiujin was on duty. Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Xiuyun wrote down her true thoughts when filling in the form to complete the forced-labor term. When Li Xiujin was about to sign the form, she asked Ms. Li Xiuyun, "If you write this, do you still want to go home?" and then she started to fiercely curse Ms. Li and intimidated her to change it. Otherwise, she would not sign the form and Ms. Li Xiuyun would not be able to go home. Falun Gong practitioner Li Xiuyun told her, "It is you who are scared." Then policewoman Li Xiuyin said many curse words.

Since the dining hall of the labor camp cooked a mouse in the soup in May, many practitioners didn't want to eat any more. The labor camp was afraid that this might affect production, so they improved the food a little bit for a time. Now the food every day is oily vegetable soup with flies landing on the steamed buns. The tables are dirty and people are not given a chance to wash their hands before eating. Now almost every dinner consists of leftover food, which sometimes smells sour.

In the past few years, the convenience store in the labor camp has participated in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners and has sold merchandise of poor quality at a high price. The current boss of the convenience store is Shen Li. The labor camp doesn't allow families to bring any food at family meeting time, and only allows them to buy from the convenience store. In the past few years, the persecution has caused many practitioners to lose their jobs; their spouses, their children, and their family members, have been living a difficult life. In the past, the labor camp still gave them a little bit of money for "hygiene expenses," but now practitioners are forced to work without any pay at all. Falun Gong practitioners can only count on their families' support and savings to give them some money to buy basic necessities. Under such circumstances, the convenience store still utilizes this to make exorbitant profits. The prices for many foods are much higher than the market price.

Falun Gong practitioners detained at Jiamusi Labor Camp should be bailed out for medical treatment or even be released based simply on their physical condition. Yet the labor camp still detains Falun Gong practitioners using all kinds of excuses.
