  • Falun Gong Practitioner Wang Kaiping from Chongqing was Persecuted to Death

Wang Kaiping, a Falun Gong practitioner from the Jiangbei District of Chongqing City, was taken from her home by the Jiangbei District Police Station in August 2004. She was illegally sentenced to a forced labor camp. Around June 2005 she began vomiting blood and was released on medical grounds. She was also emaciated at that time. After returning home she could not stop vomiting, and she passed away on the morning of August 21, 2005. Details are being investigated.

Ms. Wang Kaiping, 58, was a retiree from the Chemical Industry Research Institute of Jiangbei District in Chongqing City. In October 1999, she went to Beijing to peacefully appeal for Falun Gong and clarify the truth of Falun Gong. She was arrested and taken to the Jiangbei detention center, where she was held for over a month. In the winter of 2001, she was again arrested and taken to a brainwashing class at the guest house of the Chongqing City plant preservation station that was administered by the District Government of Jiangbei. She was detained and persecuted there.

For several years Wang Kaiping was repeatedly harassed by the Jiangbei Shimen Police Substation and by the security department of the Chemical Research Institute. At around 3:00 p.m. on September 8, 2004, officials from Jiangbei Police Station, National Security Team (Liu Ling and Liang Shibin), and security department members of the institute broke into her home and illegally ransacked it, taking away Falun Gong books and materials. In the process of their search, the officials turned the house upside down. When Wang Kaiping's husband returned from work he found that his wife had been arrested or was missing, that his house was in shambles, and all that was left was a list about the search. He closely questioned security department members at the factory, but nobody gave him a straight answer.

Wang Kaiping was taken to the Li Ziba Detention Center of Yuzhong District by local officials. She was sentenced to a forced labor camp because she had hung scrolls and distributed truth-clarifying flyers. Wang Kaiping was tortured so severely that she became emaciated and vomited blood. In June 2005 she was released on medical grounds through her family. After she returned home she could not stop vomiting blood. After examination at hospital she was diagnosed with leukemia. She passed away in the hospital during the night of August 21, 2005.

Mother Persecuted to Death, Father Jailed, Son Ran Away in Desperation

Geng Cuifang, a Falun Gong practitioner from Lanzhou City, was persecuted to death on June 13, 2002. After two months, her husband, practitioner Su Anzhou, was wrongfully sentenced to prison for 20 years. Their son was less than 18 years of age at the time. After suffering this family tragedy, he left home in desperation and his whereabouts are unknown.

Ms. Geng Cuifang, more than 40 years old, went with her husband to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in late December 2000. They were both arrested and sent back to Lanzhou City. Su Anzhou was detained in the Pingantai Forced Labor Camp and Geng Cuifang in the Xiguoyuan Detention Center. They were released in October of 2001. During this period, their 16-year-old son was left at home alone.

In the early morning of June 13, 2002, after leaving home, Su Anzhou was forcibly arrested by police who were hiding outside. The police pounded on the door, demanding that Geng Cuifang open up, but Geng Cuifang refused. The police's intimidation tactics caused Geng to fall to the ground from the sixth floor balcony. Soon afterwards, with a total disregard for Geng Cuifang's condition, the police stole her house key and entered the home. They stole two bankbooks, rings, jewelry and cash. Leaving Geng Cuifang's lifeless body on the ground, the police then fled the scene.

In August 2002, the same police officers arrested Su Anzhou again and sentenced him to jail for 20 years with the charge of intercepting a TV signal.

Geng Cuifang's son was less than 18 years old at that time. His mother had just died as a result of the police's actions, and his father was jailed. Losing his parents and source of livelihood, the boy ran away in desperation. Relatives and friends have sought his whereabouts since that time but do not know where he is currently.

Changji Forced Labor Camp in Xinjiang Intensifies the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners

On March 17, 2005, the Changji Forced Labor Camp in Xinjiang once again intensified the persecution of imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners who refuse to give up their belief.

The prison guards put firm practitioners into confinement and handcuff them behind their backs in a position where they can't stand or sit. Each time the confinement lasts at least seven days. During the confinement period, the practitioner is only allowed to eat one steamed bun each day, drink one cup of water, and go to the restroom once. He/she is not permitted to sleep. Because the practitioner must stand for long periods of time, the legs develop edema. Some have been kept handcuffed in this position for over 15, or even 20 days.

Because their superiors come to inspect the labor camp, the prison guards do not allow steadfast practitioners to stay in the prison cells. Prison guard Wang Lan disregarded the fact that Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Cao Hongqi is nearly 70 year-old and had become so weak that he could only lie in bed. Wang Lan insisted on pulling him off the bed and getting him away. During the process, Wang Lan spread rumors everywhere in the building that practitioners had attacked him. Then he found some accomplices to carry Mr. Cao out of the building and they put him down at a place quite far away.

On the evening of March 22, prison guard chief Xu Defeng and deputy chief Chen Jiang of the fifth group at Changji Labor Camp incited the inmates in the labor camp to interrogate practitioners in public. It included those who had resisted the slave labor and the ceremony of raising the CCP flags, and those who did not succumb to the brainwashing. These Falun Gong practitioners were Jin Chenfeng, Cui Guilin, Han Jinzhong, Fu Yun, Chen Xinxiao, Liu Anhong, Wang Chaodong, Li Xinren, and Zhu Huaqiang.

On March 29, 2005, practitioner Li Xinren was sent to the Changji Forced Labor Camp. Because he did not respond to the guard's demands, they attacked him with electric batons. On May 1, 2005, they had him suffer 23 days of being handcuffed, confined and maltreated. On May 27, the head of education division Zhang Yan, along with Wang Lan, deceived Li Xinren, saying they wanted to talk. In conspiracy with prison guards Li Gefei and Ma Longyue, they then beat him with electric batons.

In May, practitioner Zhu Huaqiang from Korla made a statement for justice in the cafeteria in an attempt to stop the persecution of practitioner Han Jinzhong. They then mercilessly beat Mr. Zhu. He bled profusely, but division head Zhang Yan simply told the accomplices to change Mr. Zhu's clothes by force so that people wouldn't see the evidence of the beating. After that, Mr. Zhu could not walk at all for several days.

Practitioner Wang Chaodong from Korla was sent to the forced labor camp twice. Because he did not cooperate with all the activities of the camp, from July 31 to August 7, he was continuously handcuffed and kept in confinement. Because he still did not submit, on August 19, the prison guards handcuffed him in confinement again. This time it lasted 21 days.

On August 5, practitioner Han Jinzhong said loudly that Falun Dafa is good, so they handcuffed him and kept him in confinement for 15 days. Because he did not cooperate with the persecution, the guards frequently handcuffed him in confinement and brutally tortured him.

Prison guards who participate the persecution to Falun Gong practitioners:

    Commissar Zhao Xinhua
    Commissar Wang Feng
    Education division head Zhang Yan
    Staff Wang Lan
Li Gefei, the leader of 1st Group

Officials at the Changlinzi Labor Camp Intimidate the Relatives of Murdered Practitioner Na Zhenxian

It's been more than ten days since Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Na Zhenxian was tortured to death. During that time, Mr. Na's relatives have gone from place to place seeking justice, and found none. Not only is justice difficult to find, but the perpetrators at the Changlinzi Labor Camp won't even admit that Mr. Na was persecuted to death there, despite the fact that there were scars and bruises covering his body. Furthermore, two labor camp officials, Instructor Wang Kai and Fifth Team Deputy Leader Qiang Shengguo, intimidated his relatives. They told them, "It's illegal for you to take photos of Mr. Na's body, and we've already reported you to the Shuangcheng police. They will investigate this and arrest you."

    A photo of Mr. Na

Na Zhenxian's physical and mental health improved dramatically after he began practicing Falun Gong. He continued in his cultivation practice after the government began its persecution. The authorities in Shuangcheng City arrested and jailed him, and extorted money from him many times. On February 27, 2004, he was arrested again and sent to the Shuangcheng City Second Jail at 4 a.m. the next morning. He was illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor and persecuted and tortured in various ways at the Changlinzi Forced Labor Camp in Harbin City. On September 16, 2005, the forced labor camp informed his family that he was critically ill, but when they got to the hospital, Na was already dead.

After they arrived where the remains were kept, the relatives took some photos of the scars and bruises on Mr. Na's body. Although the police were trying to stop them from taking the photos, relatives pulled back the clothes on his body and quickly took the photos. The photos were published on the Clearwisdom website on September 24, 2005. (See pictures below)

The date on the medical death certificate and burial permit was September 16, 2005. In the space for a family member's signature it was signed "Li Jianfeng." The members of Mr. Na's family said that they don't know anyone named Li Jianfeng. The same person filled out all information on the certificate and the permit.

Two practitioners in Shuangcheng City have died since the nationwide persecution of Falun Gong practitioners began in July 1999. Some relatives of these practitioners still keep silent due to pressure and fear of further persecution. We would like to take this opportunity to appeal to any practitioners who are able to show support to these relatives, and to international organizations and upright individuals to investigate this case so that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Practitioner Ms. Zhu Chengying from Leshan City in Sichuan Province Has Been Illegally Sentenced to Ten Years

On August 26, 2005, the Jinjiang District Police Station in Chengdu City, the Jinjiang District Procuratorate, the Jinjiang District Court, and the State Security Group from the Leshan City Police Station arrested Ms. Zhu Chengying, who lives in Leshan City, Sichuan Province, from her home. On September 15, she was illegally sentenced to ten years in prison and is now being held at the Chengdu City Detention Center.

Practitioner Ms. Zhu Chengying, 54, is from the Shizhong District of Leshan City. She is a retired worker from the Leshan City Paper Manufacturer. Ms. Zhu has steadfastly practiced Falun Gong and clarified the truth to the authorities and others since July 1999, when Jiang Zemin's regime and the Chinese Communist Party started to persecute Falun Gong.

On August 3, 2001, the police from the Tongjiang local police station arrested Ms. Zhu from her home. The police hung her up from a window and didn't allow her to go to the restroom. In the evening, Ms. Zhu managed to  walk out of the Tongjiang Police Station and chose to live by moving from place to place to avoid arrest.

In April 2002, Ms. Zhu and three other practitioners at a Falun Gong materials site in Chengdu City were arrested by the police from the Jinjiang District Police Station. She persisted in not giving her real name, and later was sentenced to three years of reeducation through forced labor. The other three practitioners were all sentenced to ten years. After being imprisoned for a year and eight months at the Chengdu City Detention Center, she was taken to the Zizhong Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp twice. Both times she was refused admittance to the labor camp due to her high blood pressure and heart disease. The detention center then took her to a hospital and asked the hospital's doctors to find out her real name, which they did. So the police from Leshan City took Ms. Zhu back to Leshan City and imprisoned her there until February 2004. During her imprisonment, Ms. Zhu went on a hunger strike for 11 days to protest the persecution. Eventually she was released on bail, but the Leshan City Court had meanwhile turned Ms. Zhu's case over to the Jinjiang District Court.

After returning home, Ms. Zhu and other practitioners insisted on clarifying the facts to the relevant authorities and others. The authorities of the Jinjiang District in Chengdu City and Leshan City attempted to take her away from her home several times but didn't succeed due to resistance from people who knew the truth.

Six Older Practitioners Who Died as a Result of Persecution

Ms. Miao Chuanyuan, 78, was a resident of Zhonghe Town, Yuechi County, Sichuan Province. Before she started practicing Falun Gong in 1996, Ms. Miao was half paralyzed and even had difficulty walking, so she had to use a crutch. After starting Falun Gon practice, she was restored to health. After the persecution started on July 20th, 1999, police often came to harass her family and interrogate her on the source of Falun Gong material. On March 16, 2004, county 610 Office agents ransacked her home and arrested her son. Some policemen threw her son into the vehicle, and Ms. Miao collapsed from anxiety. She became ill after that. Her son was sentenced to one year in prison, and Ms. Miao died as a result of both mental and physical persecution on July 16, 2005.

Ms. Zhang Jin'er, 73, was a resident of Dongxin Town, Yecheng City, Hebei Province. Her health improved greatly after she started practicing Falun Gong  in 1998. She didn't yield under the persecution by the CCP, and went to distribute flyers in the city. Later she was reported when she practiced on the street and was arrested. After that, she was frequently harassed and passed away in February 2003.

Mr. Liu Yuting, 67, was a Falun Gong practitioner in The Second Hand Goods Exchange Center in Shahe, Hebei Province. He was arrested in 2001 when he went to appeal in Beijing but was released by a kind police driver. On February 12, 2001, he was illegally arrested by the local authorities and sent to a detention center. In the detention center, he was punished by being forced to stand against the wall and given very bad food. With so many inmates in the jail, he had to sleep on the floor. His diabetes relapsed because of the bad conditions in the jail. The jail had to release him but they did that only after extorting 5,000 yuan from his family. After he came out, Mr. Liu learned that his pension card had been taken away by his former workplace and his daughter had been sent to a labor camp. He lost his only remaining source of support after his son left due to a misunderstanding. During this period, the authorities also went to his home to harass him. Under such tremendous pressure, the elderly practitioner died on March 30, 2002. (Note: Mr. Liu once wrote a statement to give up Falun Gong practice under pressure. Before he died, he did not have a chance to declare the statement he wrote as null and void. But he had come to realize his mistake and later firmly refused any requests made by the evil.)

Ms. Zhang Zhihua, 66, lived in Shenze County, Hebei Province. Before practicing Falun Gong, she suffered from high blood pressure. Her health was restored after beginning to practice Falun Gong in April 1999. After the persecution started, she was forced to give up Falun Gong practice and became ill again. Later she also got heart disease and became very weak. She died on July 12, 2003.

Mr. Sun Zhonggui, 67, was a retired worker from Dongsheng Forest Farm, Fusong County, Jilin Province. He once suffered from TB and other illnesses and was not able to take care of himself. After practicing Falun Gong, his health improved greatly and he became able to work. Because his son went to appeal in Beijing, his family was often harassed and threatened. Under the extreme pressure, his old illness returned, and he passed away on July 26, 2001.

Mr. Lou Guangde, 70, was a retired worker from the Anyang Post Office, Henan Province. He was arrested at home in 2000 and detained illegally for a long time. Under a series of persecutions, he died in 2004.

Appeal for the Release of Eight Falun Gong Practitioners Detained in Leibo County

On May 28, 2005, the police in Leibo County arrested eight practitioners from Xichang City, Sichun Province. Among them were Ms. He Xianqun, Ms. Mao Kaiming, Mr. Chen Qirong and Mr. Sun Yongde. They have been detained for four months so far. According to a reliable source, the local National Security Group sent trial materials for the eight practitioners to the local Procuratorate for examination for the second time, but the Procuratorate returned them again. The eight practitioners live their lives according to the principles of "Zhen, Shan, Ren" (Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance) and they have committed no crimes. We demand that the National Security Group in Leibo County release them immediately.

The Xichang City No. 281 Nuclear Industrial Team, the work unit that Sun Yongde was with, reduced his salary by 120 yuan beginning in July of this year. Chen Qirong was with the Xichang City Panxi Geological Team, which terminated his salary in July of this year. His family is in extreme financial difficulty as a result. Ms. He Xianqun's work unit, Liangshanzhou Local Specialty Products Station, terminated her salary in June of this year.

The reason the above work units and the Leibo National Security Group have been doing this must have something to do with the District 610 Office.

Practitioners like He Xianqun and Ms. Mao Kaiming had suffered from chronic diseases for many years, but the illnesses disappeared within a short period after practicing Falun Gong. More importantly, they live their lives according to the principles of "Zhen, Shan, Ren" and abide by a high moral standard.

Mao Kaiming's son lodged a lawsuit against one of the local policemen on April 14, 2004. His statement included the following, "Since my childhood, my mother had been in poor health and made a living by picking up odd jobs. When she first started practicing Falun Gong, we did not understand her. However, as time went by, she recovered from partial paralysis and her face became rosy again. Spiritually she became more and more healthy. Her rough temper disappeared and she was able to get along with family members. Seeing her dramatic change and the miraculous effect that Falun Gong had on her, we began to understand her. When her relatives and friends asked her how she could be in such good health, she simply told them that she was able to recover from her illnesses and have a healthy life because she practiced Falun Gong."

Mr. Chen Qirong, 63 years old, is a retired worker from the No. 404 Geological Team. Before he practiced Falun Gong, he contracted acute hepatitis twice and was on medication all year round. His leg was disabled due to a car accident. After practicing Falun Gong, his health improved greatly and he recovered from the leg disability. He became easygoing and readily helped others. He had a very good reputation in the community. After he was detained, his previous colleagues could not understand why the police would have arrested such a good person. They all hope that the National Security Group will release him immediately.

Practitioner Zhang Ruirong and Her Daughter-in-Law Have Been Missing for Four Years

Some practitioners clarified the truth about the practice and the persecution of Falun Gong to Zhang Ruirong's sister. After learning the truth, the sister said: "In 2001, my sister's daughter-in-law came to my house from Harbin. She said that she came here to escape the persecution because she practices Falun Gong. At that time, I did not have a full understanding of Falun Gong. Because of what the media and the CCP said, I did not let her stay in our house. I have not heard of her whereabouts again since she left. I deeply regret that I did not have her stay with me."

"My sister Zhang Ruirong was sentenced to one year of forced labor for practicing Falun Gong. She became homeless after she was released in 2001. We never heard of her whereabouts again since."

The practitioners asked about the sister and daughter-in-law's current situation. Zhang Ruirong's sister explained, "Both Zhang Ruirong's husband and son have remarried. Their house had been sold and there is nothing left."

Zhang Ruirong's sister winced and said, "They have no home anymore."

Zhang Ruirong, 59 years old, was a farmer at Liansheng Village, Dongfeng Town, Harbin.

Her sister lives at Sanlitun Village, Fengyun New District, Tangshan City, Hebei Province.

In September 2004, she sent an appeal letter to the Shanghai Supreme Court. In her letter, she described her personal experience of practicing Falun Gong, and the unfair treatment she had received from the judiciary. She pointed out that the Shanghai authorities are covering up their corruption, that incarcerating her is unlawful, and that the judiciary is using its power to override laws and deceive the people while presenting the image of behaving lawfully.

Liu Zhigui has been tortured both physically and mentally. To protest the inhuman treatment, Liu went on a hunger strike on September 7. He was ignored for eleven days. Early in the morning on the 16th, Liu Zhigui's breathing was shallow and he had almost no pulse. Only then was he sent to the hospital emergency room.

    9. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Police Arrest Wei Yingxin from His Home

Guangzhou practitioner Wei Yingxin was arrested by policemen around noon on September 12, 2005.

At 2:40 p.m., policemen tried to use a key to open Mr. Wei's door. However, the door was locked on the inside, so they could not get in. The officers then ordered Wei Yingxin's family to open the door. When his family refused to cooperate, the police used a meter-long metal pole to force the two stainless steel doors apart. Both doors are now damaged and can't be closed properly, and the lock is completely ruined. Approximately 10 officers, some in uniform and some in plainclothes, rushed in. The family asked the police officers to show their identifications and badge numbers. About half of the people left in a hurry, which left five or six people, who proceeded to confiscate personal items from the home. The badge numbers of two of the policemen were 019094 and 020540.

Right now, Wei Yingxin is jailed at the Yuexiu District Detention Center. His cell number is 121. His ninety-year-old mother cries every day, refuses food and water, and is yearning for her son's return.

The small cell is very damp and dark. Detainees have to relieve themselves in the cell. Only half of a regular meal is served to the practitioners. During the night rats run through the cages. The stench in the small cell is so strong that it is difficult to breathe.
