On May 13, 2005, Dafa practitioners in Holland celebrated World Falun Dafa Day on Dam Square in Amsterdam. It was sunny and there were many visitors. Many people learned about the worldwide spread of Falun Dafa and the persecution in China. Many also were interested in the practice and learned the exercises at the event site, while others wrote down the information about local practice sites.

To celebrate the thirteenth anniversary of the introduction of Falun Dafa to the public, practitioners in the San Francisco Bay area held the "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" Art Exhibition at the Santa Clara County government building from May 11 to May 13, 2005.

The art exhibition is composed of five parts: Part One, entitled, "The Buddha Light Illuminates Heaven and Earth," displays the beauty of the heavens that cultivators have experienced. The fundamental origin of our lives is peacefully displayed in these paintings. Part Two, entitled, "Assimilating to Dafa, Returning to One's Original True Self," manifests the constant uplifting that comes from living according to purity and righteousness. Part Three is entitled, "Life's Witnesses: Righteous Beliefs Exist Forever." Here, artists use strong images to depict the brutal persecution that Falun Gong practitioners have suffered in China over the past five years. The contrast between peacefulness and violence, the choice between goodness and evil, moves the heart of every person who has a conscience. Part Four of the exhibition is entitled, "Clarifying the Truth, and Calling for Justice." In response to the brutal persecution in China, Dafa practitioners around the world have been distributing flyers, showing truth-clarification movies, making banners and holding parades with the wish that more people will learn the truth and take righteous actions to help end the persecution. Part Five is entitled, "Good and Evil Will Receive Due Retribution and Justice." This part foretells the end of the persecution. Truth will definitely reveal itself. Good and evil will receive their due retribution ¡V this is a universal law. All things will be fully revealed in the dazzling brightness.

The paintings are based on facts and actual occurrences. Many visitors said that they never thought that such an inhumane persecution could occur in this current age. They said that they respect Falun Gong practitioners' steadfast belief.

The photo showing 36 Western practitioners appealing on Tiananmen Square in November 2001 caught the attention of many visitors. Among the 36 practitioners, some came from Santa Clara County. There were university students, engineers and corporate managers.

Practitioners will conduct outdoor celebration activities on May 14 in downtown San Francisco. There will be large-scale exercise demonstrations and cultivation experience sharing, as well as music and dance performances.

May 13 is the sixth annual World Falun Dafa Day. Over the past six years, practitioners in Calgary and throughout the world have clarified the truth to save sentient beings and have made it though immense difficulties under the teaching and care of Master.

Now, Falun Dafa is welcomed by more and more people throughout the world. People know the facts of the persecution. Upon hearing the practitioners' truth-clarification, a young Western man showed that he understood why the Chinese Communist Party persecutes Falun Gong: "The Chinese Communist Party is exactly opposite from your belief."

On May 12, 2005, practitioners held the "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" Art Exhibition on the first floor of the State Capitol of Missouri, to celebrate the sixth World Falun Dafa Day. The Governor of the State of Missouri issued a proclamation.

On that day, many people came to view the paintings, including state government officials, staff members, students and teachers visiting the Capitol, and many tourists. The beautiful paintings demonstrate the grace of Falun Dafa, the uncompromising courage of Dafa practitioners and the cruel persecution by the Chinese Communist Party. These paintings moved the hearts of the viewers and many visitors stood in front of one or another painting for quite a while. Many talked to the practitioners, requested truth-clarification materials, expressed their support to the Falun Gong practitioners and condemned the atrocities of the Chinese Communist regime. After learning the facts, people signed the appeal calling for an end to the persecution in China.

At noon, practitioners demonstrated the five sets of Falun Gong exercises, performed traditional dances and sang songs. We also visited representatives' offices and delivered paper lotus flowers to thank them for their support and to explain the facts further.

This was the third time that practitioners in Missouri celebrated World Falun Dafa Day. At the end of the event, many staff members working the building expressed their appreciation to the practitioners and hoped that we would come again next year.

(Clearwisdom.net) On April 9, 2005, Falun Gong practitioners in Northern Germany organized an information day in downtown Hamburg to help local people understand the truth about Falun Gong and the persecution in China. It was a cold and windy day and spring just didn't seem to be around the corner. Starting at 11 a.m., the practitioners arranged the displays and the information stall. Practitioners had painted and framed some pictures and placed them on display, depicting some of the tortures suffered by practitioners in China at the hands of the Chinese Communist Party. The table was covered with information in different languages, including Chinese and German versions of the main book of Falun Dafa, Zhuan Falun.

The first visitor to our stall asked, "Are you sure that people are tortured as cruelly as that? How long will it take for that regime to fall? Please continue to do what you are doing, it is very important, and please believe that this regime will soon come to an end."

A young man was immediately captivated by one of the large pictures on display. He stopped and asked a practitioner, "What is going on here?" Once he heard that under the Chinese Communist Party leadership, people living in China are tortured for their beliefs, he said, "I thought that only in North Korea people have to suffer torture because of their belief! This is also happening in China? Why don't the media report this?" We told him how many of the Western media, enterprises and politicians remain silent about the persecution because of economic interests. He reacted immediately and said, "Some things are more important than economics."

When practitioners demonstrated the second Falun Gong exercise, two young boys passed by and laughed. Out of curiosity, one of them grabbed one of the practitioners' arms. Another practitioner, who was distributing leaflets, walked smilingly towards the two boys and asked them quietly, but firmly, "Are you interested in Falun Gong?" She took them quietly by the shoulder and moved them a few steps away from the exercise demonstration. They asked, "What is that? What is she doing?" This gave the practitioner the opportunity to talk about Falun Gong and the exercises. One of the boys, breathlessly, asked while pointing at the large pictures, 'What is that?" This gave the practitioner the chance to tell them about the persecution. At the end, the boys asked for a Video-CD, so that they could find out more.

Two trendy young girls with happy faces passed by. They pointed at the pictures and made fun of the exercise demonstration. One of the practitioners said hello to them, which brought them to a halt. "Did you know that people in China can be immediately arrested if they do these exercises on the street?" The girls looked at the practitioner who had talked to them. "It does not matter if one is male or female, old or young like you. A beautiful woman, with the name of Gao Rongrong, had her face mutilated through electric shocks because she did not want to renounce her belief." The girls listened carefully and became serious. They could barely restrain their regret as they signed the petition in support of Falun Gong.

There was occasional heavy rain during the event. After the practitioners sent forth righteous thoughts, the rain stopped. Many people accepted leaflets and asked how they could help those suffering in China. In the late afternoon, the sun came out and the sky remained bright.

Over the last month, Bulgarian practitioners visited several Bulgarian cities to tell people about the peaceful nature of Falun Dafa and the brutal persecution that practitioners in China are suffering under the current regime in China. The practitioners visited the Golden Sands, one of the most renowned sea resorts in Bulgaria on the Black Sea, and raised awareness about the persecution to tourists from Romania, Turkey, Russia and Germany. They also visited the cities of Varna, Levski, Pleven, Lovetch, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Dobritch and Gabrovo.

Practitioners were warmly accepted by the public and met with great interest wherever they went. They distributed flyers with detailed information about the persecution in China, the confirmed number of deaths from torture and the lawsuits filed against Jiang Zemin and his communist regime in more than 20 countries around the world.

Practitioners demonstrated the exercises and talked to passers-by about what Falun Dafa is. People were interested in the many benefits that come from practicing the exercises and they asked many questions. For many, this was the first time they'd heard of Falun Dafa.

In Varna, practitioners met people who had practiced the exercises and read the books of Falun Dafa for quite a while. These practitioners helped with putting up posters and giving out flyers. They were inspired when they found out that there are more people in Bulgaria who practice Falun Gong.

People signed a petition calling for an end to the persecution....
....and came to learn the Falun Gong exercises.

In the town of Levski, some young people learned the sitting meditation. They decided to read the introductory book, Falun Gong and the main text of Falun Dafa practice, Zhuan Falun, which can be downloaded free or bought from bookstores. Many people signed the petition in support of the persecuted practitioners in China. Around 400 signatures were collected from Bulgarian and foreign citizens.

Many of those who signed the petition said that they are against this brutal persecution and that everyone has the right to choose what to do and think. People could not accept the Chinese Communist Party's attempts at mind-control, brainwashing and propaganda that they use to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

The rainy and windy weather in Pleven and Varna did not stop practitioners from handing out hundreds of flyers. They walked around the streets and talked to local people about the persecution. In the Pleven town center, practitioners demonstrated the first four exercises and attracted the attention of the people passing by. These people signed the petition and were interested to find out about the books of Falun Dafa. Practitioners informed them that the main text of the practice, Zhuan Falun would be published in Bulgarian on May 13th, World Falun Dafa Day.

In the town of Lovetch two kids joined the practitioners to learn the exercises and sign the petition. One elderly person didn't believe the facts of the persecution and stated that it was impossible. The practitioners kindly explained that according to international human rights organizations, China is the country with the most severe human rights violations and that in addition to Falun Dafa, other spiritual and religious groups are also banned and persecuted in China. The practitioners also revealed how former communist leader Jiang Zemin was jealous of the practice's popularity. It was Jiang who instigated the persecution against this peaceful practice.

There were also people who didn't need any explanation about why the persecution is happening in China ¡V as soon as they heard that practitioners are thrown into labor camps, tortured and even killed by the regime, they promptly signed the petition. After having lived for 50 years under the evil specter of communism, Bulgarians find it easy to understand how the Communist Party brutally persecutes the Chinese people.

Practitioners decided to visit other cities in Bulgaria and to donate the book, Zhuan Falun to several major libraries. Through this tour, practitioners demonstrated the kind and compassionate essence of the practice, and many people came to understand how brutal and inhumane the persecution of Falun Dafa is. After having toured the country, practitioners felt very pleased that so many people had gotten to learn the truth and even more practitioners were inspired and determined to do what Dafa practitioners should do in this important period of time.

Recreational buildings can be found all over Hanover and its suburbs. Many different groups meet there regularly for leisure activities, such as music, art, theatre and much more.

April 10th was an open day with more than 59 groups participating in activities which were enjoyed by the public. There was music, plays and dancing accompanied by good food and drink.

North German Falun Gong practitioners participated in these activities. Cultural activities in these recreational buildings, sponsored by the city government, are acknowledged and supported by politicians. On this evening, the Mayor of Hanover arrived with several reporters.

The Falun Gong group was given a small corner of the large hall. We did our best to arrange everything carefully in order to conserve space. Above the middle of our information table we placed a poster that showed a European practitioner in the meditation position and immediately next to her a Chinese lady who was being strapped down and tortured by two Chinese policemen.

We also displayed the beauty of Falun Gong with photos of dancers in traditional Chinese costumes along with pictures from experience sharing conferences and large-scale group practices in China before the persecution began. We placed paper lotus flowers of many colors on our information table, where we showed a video of Master Li Hongzhi, founder of Falun Gong, demonstrating the exercises.

To our surprise, we found that the large area directly next to us was not occupied because another group did not show up. We could therefore demonstrate the five sets of Falun Gong exercises in full view of many people who were sitting at nearby tables enjoying a cup of coffee.

The compassionate and harmonious atmosphere of Falun Gong could be felt everywhere. A stream of people constantly passed by our information table. They gladly accepted our leaflets and often stopped to ask questions.

A group of teenagers eyed the posters curiously. These children were shocked by the scenes of practitioners being tortured in China and did not hesitate to ask detailed questions: "What did this woman do? Why is she being tortured like that? Is this legal?"

A girl of African decent, who spoke beautiful German, took the initiative to clarify the truth to more people. Later, we noticed that she brought all her friends, one after another, as well as her mother and her mother's friends to our stall. She told them about the persecution. At the end of her impromptu presentation, she said loudly and emphatically that in her opinion, God will punish the torturers very soon.

BANGALORE: It is believed that our Karma or deeds follow each of us throughout our lives. It is believed that bad karma is the cause of all illnesses and hardships. The Chinese practice of Falun Gong claims to have an answer to the haunting Karma. Based on the universal values of truth, compassion and forbearance, Falun Gong, say believers, has relieved many of their problems [...].

Banned in the country of its birth, the art has made a base in the city. City-based couple, Bhagwan and Chita Devnani, have been ''sharing the Gong'' by holding regular classes at the Cubbon Park every morning for the past four years. ''I have gained clarity of mind, which has helped me in my personal as well as professional life,'' says Bhagwan.

The couple was introduced to Falun in 2001 by a Singaporean Falun Gong practitioner Janice. Chitra was suffering from severe backache for 15 years. ''After staring practicing Falun Gong, I was cured of the pain within a week,'' she says.

Chitra says that the body, mind and spirit are ''cultivated'' in the practice, which relieves one of all negative influences. She uses the analogy of a garden to describe it.

''You take a plot of land, weed out all bad things and put good things such as seeds, water and sunlight. This is exactly what we do with our bodies, minds and hearts through our cultivation practices.''

The group formed has taken the practice to schools too. Principal Sri Baireshwara Vidyaniketan, Srinivaspura, Sriram Reddy encouraged the practice in his school which he says has brought a transformation in the students.

''This year we got a 100 percent first class result in SSLC examinations. Students have become more focused now,'' he says. Reddy, who was on medication for asthma for the past 40 years now claims to have been cured by Falun Gong.

The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom was created by the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 (IRFA) to monitor violations of the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion or belief abroad, as defined in IRFA and set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and related international instruments, and to give independent policy recommendations to the President, Secretary of State, and Congress.

Although the work of the Commission is conducted year round, the Commission compiles an annual report of its policy recommendations in May to the President, the Secretary of State, and Congress. This report covers the period May 2004 through April 2005.

In compliance with IRFA, the Commission has assessed the facts and circumstances, including those in the State Department's 2004 Annual Report on International Religious Freedom, regarding violations of religious freedom around the world. As a result of this review process, and in furtherance of the Commission's statutory responsibility, the Commission wrote to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in April 2005 recommending that she designate as CPCs 11 countries, including People's Republic of China.

In China, the government continues to be responsible for pervasive and severe violations of religious freedom and related human rights. Every religious community in China is subject to restrictions, discrimination, and state control. The most serious religious freedom abuses are experienced by Roman Catholics, house church and unregistered Protestants, and spiritual groups such as the Falun Gong, abuses involving imprisonment, torture, and other forms of ill treatment. Though the Chinese government issued a new Ordinance on Religion in March 2005, its provisions in fact restrict rather than protect religious freedom, offering Party leaders more extensive control over all religious groups and their activities.

The Chinese government continues to engage in systematic and egregious violations of religious freedom. The State Department has stated publicly that conditions for human rights, including religious freedom, deteriorated in 2004. Chinese government officials control, monitor, and restrain the activities of all religious communities, including Uighur Muslims, Tibetan Buddhists, various spiritual movements such as the Falun Gong, "underground" Catholics, and "house church" Protestants, maintaining final authority over leadership decisions and doctrinal positions. Prominent religious leaders and laypersons alike continue to be confined, tortured, imprisoned and subjected to other forms of ill treatment on account of their religion or belief. Since 1999, the Commission has recommended that China be designated as a "country of particular concern," or CPC. The State Department has followed the Commission's recommendations and named China a CPC.

In November 2004, the Chinese government announced a new set of regulations on religious affairs. Though Chinese leaders have heralded the regulations as "a significant step forward in the protection of religious freedom," the bulk of the regulations codify provisions once scattered throughout several sets of laws, ordinances, and regulations. The regulations do include several new provisions, however, including conditions under which religious organizations can provide social services in local communities, accept donations from overseas religious groups, and host inter-provincial religious meetings. The regulations also do not specify that official recognition is limited to the five "official religions" (Protestantism, Catholicism, Islam, Buddhism, and Taoism) as was the case under previous policy.

Legal and human rights experts agree that the new regulations were not issued to protect the rights and security of religious believers, but to regularize management practices, thus offering Party leaders more extensive control over all religious activity and groups. Moreover, the regulations threaten criminal punishments and civil fines for groups engaging in religious activities without having registered with the official "patriotic" religious organizations.

In May 2004, a joint document issued by the Department of Propaganda offered instructions on "integrating Marxist atheism propaganda and education" into the national education system, civil society and economic sectors, the media, and academia. Observers have suggested that this document, along with several directives to discourage "superstitious activity," represent a pointed effort on the part of the Chinese government to stem the burgeoning spread of religious belief among the Chinese people.

Beginning with the banning of Falun Gong in 1999, the Chinese government has continued to carry out a campaign against what it calls [slanderous word omitted]. Thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been sent to labor camps without trial or sent to mental health institutions for re-education due to their affiliation with a [slanderous word omitted]. Falun Gong practitioners claim that between 1,000 to 2,000 practitioners have been killed as a result of police brutality. Given the lack of judicial transparency, the number and treatment of Falun Gong practitioners in confinement is difficult to confirm. Nevertheless, there is substantial evidence from foreign diplomats, international human rights groups, and human rights activists in Hong Kong that the crackdowns on the Falun Gong are widespread and violent. In addition, the Chinese government has reportedly continued to pressure foreign businesses in China to sign statements denouncing the Falun Gong and to discriminate against its followers in hiring. Local officials in foreign countries have also stated that they were warned by Chinese diplomatic personnel about the loss of potential business contacts if they continued to advocate on behalf of Falun Gong.

In March 2005, the State Department announced that it would not introduce a resolution at the UN Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR), citing "significant steps" taken by the Chinese government to address "structural issues concerning human rights." Among the steps mentioned by the State Department was a public announcement by the Chinese government that "religious education of minors is consistent with Chinese law and policy" and new regulations that exempt small family or home worship activities from governmental registration. These are concerns that this Commission has repeatedly raised in the past; yet, it is too soon to determine whether there will be any substantive impact from these steps. The Commission will continue to monitor the actions of the Chinese government and report on whether the cited "significant steps" lead to any measurable progress in the protection of the freedom of thought, conscience, and religion or belief.

In addition to the steps mentioned above, the State Department also cited as evidence of progress invitations from the Chinese government to the UN Special Rapporteurs on Torture and on Freedom of Religion or Belief, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, and the High Commissioner for Human Rights to visit China in 2005. Similar promises were mentioned the last time the United States decided to forgo a resolution on China at the 2003 session of the UNCHR. Later that year, however, promised visits by this Commission and various UN thematic mechanisms were cancelled or postponed by the Chinese government.

On the Influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)

One fact is clear -- in dealing with the tendency of the entire economy, the Chinese government failed to take a flawless and holistic approach. They are not interested in establishing a social welfare system, considering political reform and constructing legality and law. To the Chinese leaders, the top priority is to perpetuate their own power. The biggest worry is the collapse of the Communist Party. Secretly they are praying that the conflicts don't explode now; not in my term, please; wait until I retire; then you can do whatever you want. The last government led by Jiang Zemin and Zhu Rongji was like that. They thought: Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao administration, do whatever you want to fix the leftover problems; that's your business.

A country's economy is not something you can magically change however you want. Economic reform takes time and patience. We can thereby see a phenomenon [in China]: no matter who is in power, the person's top interest is to keep things under control and strengthen his personal power; he doesn't care about what happen next. The person will do whatever he feels like; there is no continuity and long-term stability in his policies. The Chinese government is still in the same pattern under the current situation. As long as the CCP is in power, this trend will not change.

We see another phenomenon from China's economy: the CCP is taking advantage of the economic boom to legitimize its rule of dictatorship. For instance, the CCP often boasts about how hugely it benefits the people; how much it contributes to the advancement of Chinese society; but if we see through the propaganda, these claims are completely bogus. The CCP is very good at using false, spurious things to hide its true nature.

I want to clarify another point: many people believe that China is practicing capitalism. But the fact is that many people don't even know what capitalism is about. Recently, the Chinese government is pushing the U.S. to accept China as a free market economy. The U.S. has refused. Why? Because the definition of a free market economy is not arbitrary. The dictionary says: a market economy must have free and fair trade.

To be fair, there must be a just legal system; everyone has the right to appeal; everyone enjoys fair protection. But is there any fairness under the CCP's dictatorship laws?

Now let's talk about freedom. Let me give you an example. In the U.S. people have to pay taxes. Why? because the government hires a group of people to maintain the society's order. If today the officials in our city do a poor job and mess things up, we could refuse to pay taxes. We could also vote them out of their offices. This is a trade-off. Why shouldn't we expect satisfactory services from the officials using our tax money? In China, people also pay all kinds of taxes, but they do not have the right to vote in any election. There is no freedom, no fairness. The people do not elect the Chinese government officials. They manage to stay in power and refuse to go. There is no freedom, no fairness and thus no free trade could be reached.

Today people believe in Christianity and practice Falun Gong. If they don't even have this little bit of freedom [in China] there is no way to develop a free market economy. How could a market economy be built on a dictatorship government? The so-called Chinese capitalism espoused by the CCP's propaganda has nothing in common with a true market economy in overseas capitalist countries.

Many people had the wrong understanding that the CCP is willing to accept capitalism. Wrong. The CCP only adopted the appearance of capitalism, not the real substance. Just as Professor Lang Xianping from Hong Kong said, "How come all the state-owned companies in China were embezzled by a small group of people? These companies belong to the people on surface. This is like a son wanting to sell his father's house without telling his father." Is this fair? Not at all! How could you sell your dad's house? It's not yours! In the U.S., could you sell your neighbor's house? Could an employee sell the company? In China, the people own state-owned properties; how could a few people sell them? The owners [the Chinese people] don't even know about the sale. Even if they found out, they can't oppose it. What kind of society is this? Isn't this robbery? How is this different from a street robbery?

The bottom line is, under the Communist rule, all the established systems are hypocritical. On the surface they are learning and adopting capitalist ideas. In fact, it's not true at all. The CCP can be extremely deceiving. These days, the Chinese economy appears very prosperous on the surface: they build lots of tall buildings; people's living standards are improving. But all this is illusive. The Communist government deployed huge public social resources to maintain a fake thing but have damaged the people's fundamental interests.

Nowadays the Chinese government encourages people to buy housing property. People are working hard to buy their housing property. But think about it; who owns the houses and land? The Constitution says the land belongs to all the people in China, but the government actually owns the land. Even if you bought your house, after 70 years the government can drive you out from your home. Government regulations say people only have the right to use the land for 70 years. I heard that the CCP is considering levying a housing property tax. Since the property owners don't own land, the government does; they cannot tax the land like it is done in the U.S. The CCP wants to tax the housing property, collecting a 7-8% property tax, just like in the U.S. and Hong Kong. Let's think about this deal: I don't own the land; I can only live in the house for 70 years, yet I have to pay property taxes on the house for 70 years. What kind of government is this? In the USA, no one dares to pass such a law requiring people to pay property tax on a 70 year land lease when buying a house! The CCP is cheating people to buy houses and figure out another way to cheat people out of their money one more time, robbing them over and over again, and then uses this money for government expenditures.

In 2004, the Chinese government has so far collected over 2,000 billion yuan of fiscal income. The 2004 annual plan is for a total of 3,400 billion. We know that China's GDP for 2004 is only 12,000 billion; the profit on the GDP might only be between 10% - 20%, even if the profit is 20%, the total income is only 2,400 billion. How much does so the CCP take from taxes? It is 3,400 billion; then, what a huge portion of GDP is from taxes!

Think about it, everyone. In the U.S. the government also collects a lot of taxes. The U.S. government, though, spends about two thirds of its tax income on government expenditures, and one-third on social security. In China, almost all the taxes are spent on government costs, and the social security tax allotment is next to nothing. Do you know the size of the social security fund in China? In the past four years, the central government spent only 9.2 billion yuan to help the most impoverished population, while the government's total fiscal income in the same period amounted to 8,000 billion. Only 9.2 billion yuan was used to help poor people, but 15.1 billion was allocated for local governmental expenditures. Government officials have spent the lion's share! Where did they spend the money? We all know it is very popular in China for officials to wine and dine; many such events also involve young girls, for entertainment. Ten years ago in Beijing I once attended a banquet hosted by a friend in the government with a vice premier among the guests. It was a business activity, so I had to attend it. It is hard to imagine: for two tables of twenty guests, the cost was 270,000 yuan, that is US$30,000! In the U.S., I never spent money like this, US$30,000 to buy dinner for twenty people. In the United States this would not be possible, but it is considered commonplace in Beijing, in China! The Chinese government spends huge amounts of money on these kinds of activities. That is why, when talking about the economy, we have to look at the actual happenings. Today's distorted Chinese economy is because of the CCP. They have guzzled all the wealth that the Chinese people have accumulated over numerous generations.

On China's Economy from an Economist's Perspective

Nowadays, China's economic data is very unreliable. In fact, the Chinese government has been covering up China's real crisis with false economic data all along.

Let's use some statistics as an example. In 2003, the Chinese government claimed that China's daily foreign currency outflow was around US$100 million. But figures for the first half of 2004 from China's Foreign Exchange Administrative Bureau announced that over US$60 billion had left China during that time. If this is true, then the foreign currency outflow was almost $200 million per day, double the earlier claim.

How much was the foreign investment in China? In fact, in the first half of 2004, the total foreign investment was only US$40 billion, but the amount of outflow in the same period was US $60 billion. Where did all the money go? Corrupt Communist officials had stolen the money.

About two years ago, I predicted that China would certainly head for inflation. At that time I said that the U.S. economy had come out of the slump caused by "the September 11" incident, but China was going downhill; downhill means that China's economy was headed for an inflationary period. In November 2003, during the second round of a meeting between China and the U.S., the "Sino-U.S. Relations Conference," the appreciation and depreciation of China's currency was a hot topic. Many economists and financial experts from around the world were specially invited to attend a seminar on the RMB's appreciation and depreciation. I attended the seminar and publicized my opinion, "Inside China, the RMB should not appreciate, it should only depreciate." Most of them disagreed; they believed that it was high time to force the RMB's appreciation; how could it possibly depreciate? They challenged, "What makes you think that China is headed for inflation and the RMB would be devalued? What is your rationale behind your prediction?"

Simple. China's international trade uses a fixed exchange rate at 8.28 [RMB yuan to the dollar]. Let me give you an example: I have 100 bottles of water; if I sell them to you and make more U.S. dollars than what I can get by charging you RMB, then the RMB is supposed to appreciate, relatively. But China keeps the 8.28 rate fixed. In fact, the RMB can exchange more U.S. dollars because China is floating with the U.S. dollar exchange rate, the Chinese RMB follows the dollar's up and down value. In fact, there should be an adjustment between the U.S. dollar and RMB according to the actual value of the currency. Who has seen the price of any commodity remain the same for years?

Fifty years ago, every country in the world printed their currency based on the gold standard, meaning a country's total cash reserves depended on the amount of gold they had. Later on, the U.S. dollar was reformed according to the state credit basis, national standard. The U.S. now prints cash based on the state credit and national capital. However, China today uses neither gold reserves nor state credit. They value their currency based on the U.S. dollar. The Chinese RMB follows the U.S. dollar's up and down valuation. Think about it, China's foreign trade and exports are earning U.S. dollars. As the amount of U.S. dollars earned increases, the RMB should also appreciate. For instance, if I have 1,000 yuan and I made US $15 in profit, of course the RMB should appreciate. This is common sense.

But why didn't the RMB appreciate? The Chinese government worries about China's credit. Once China's exchange rate becomes market driven, the currency will be traded freely and the U.S. dollars will circulate freely, leading to a high possibility for the dollar to replace RMB in China. As a consequence, foreign banks will open regular businesses in China. Then, Chinese citizens will not likely put all their savings in RMB and may deposit some of their money in U.S. dollar accounts instead. At that time, a great amount of RMB will be exchanged into U.S. dollars, resulting in a great amount of RMB reserves drawn from China's state-owned banks, completely disclosing the losses of Chinese banks to foreign debt as well as the domestic debt. The bad debts in China's big, four state-owned banks are as high as 70%. If individual Chinese citizens exchange half of their savings into U.S. dollar accounts, China's state-owned banks will not be able survive and will collapse. But, the Chinese government will not let the big four state-owned banks go down; otherwise the entire Chinese society would collapse. What would they do then? The government would decide to print more cash. This in turn forces the RMB to devalue. China's economy is now based on this strategy. That is why China would rather bear the pressure of the RMB to appreciate rather than freeing the exchange rate. They worry that the true mess of China's financial situation will be exposed, and the entire society will be destabilized as a result.

Actually, there is another reason, which is CCP's deceptive nature. It seems that the RMB is appreciating in the eyes of foreigners, but actually it is depreciating for the Chinese people. Why would it depreciate? It is caused by a fixed currency exchange rate. All commodities are traded equally in a free market, including the exchange between the U.S. dollar and Chinese RMB. If there are more dollars, the RMB would appreciate. If there are fewer dollars, the RMB would depreciate. This is a process of the free exchange. However, once the exchange rate is fixed, this equally makes a dividing line. This line makes all the trade between China and foreign countries an unfair trade, which is under China's monopoly and control.

The reason why the Chinese government wants to use this strategy is because RMB is actually a U.S. dollar-based currency. For instance, as China's foreign currency reserve increases by one dollar, the government prints RMB 8.28 yuan. When the dollar reserve goes up, the government issues more RMB. According to the data in 2004, between January and October, the government printed RMB 4,000 billion yuan. What kind of concept is 4,000 billion? China's GDP in the year 2003 was 10,000 billion yuan. In 2004, the GDP is expected to reach 12,000 billion. With a GDP of 12,000 billion, the government still printed 4,000 billion cash. You tell me, isn't the RMB devalued? It is definitely devalued. When foreign currency reserves increase, all the foreign money in China must be converted to RMB for circulation; hence, the government must print more RMB. Then, what is the consequence? Let us look at the Chinese government's M2 data [M2 is broad money, it includes exchange currency (M1), savings accounts, and other substituted capital similar to cash]. M2 jumped from 18,000 billion to 22,000 billion yuan, a net increase of 4,000 billion to the market. People would observe the most obvious phenomenon, which is a price hike for all commodities.

According to the official data published in October 2004, China's inflation rate was 4.3%. According to traditional economic theory, an inflation rate within 5% is considered moderate and normal. However, the government's data also showed price increases in grain, petroleum, coal and steel. The basic industry price hike was as high as 24.1%, but the government stated the inflation rate was 4.3%. Obviously, the number is not accurate at all. In fact, the price hike is not limited to grain, petroleum, coal and steel; other basic needs such as clothes, plastic bottles and many other goods also have seen a price increase. Considering the price hike as high as 24.1%, how could the inflation rate be as low as 4.3%? According to the numbers the Chinese government claimed, China's Engle Coefficient is 37. In other words, Chinese people spend 37% of their total income on food. Now that 37% of their total spending sees the inflation increase of 24.1%, even if all other prices had remained unchanged, 4.3% inflation would still be impossible.

I have no way to believe this data [produced by the Chinese government]. If the inflation rate were accurate, and because the price of raw material could only go up, mostly, the only other possibility is that the people's income of the whole nation had been shrunk. Even if this were true, the total salary couldn't go down as much as 20%. In China, salary costs only represents 15%-20% of the total. If the total cost went down 20%, then people would not get paid at all. Without income, how would they survive? So this is impossible. That's why I said the 4.3% inflation was a lie.

In reality, China's inflation is very serious. We all see that prices in China are going up very quickly, particularly for real estate. But this high inflation is good for the Chinese government. Printing more money means RMB depreciation. By doing this, the government is stealing money from its citizens. Chinese citizens ended up paying for the 20% inflation. As a result, the government's bad debts would diminish. Bad debts (defaulted loans) data based on 2004 figures has not yet been published. I predict we would see about 10% reduction in bad debt in China's financial system. Where does this 10% come from? I calculated it from the inflation data in 2004.

There are two reasons for the Chinese government to keep a fixed exchange rate with U.S. dollars. One is the fear of the collapse of their banking system; the other is to create inflation in order to eliminate bad debts, so as to sustain this CCP government and to eliminate the bad debt of the Chinese government itself.

According to Richard Kahn's economic theory (related to John Maynard Keynes' multiplier theory), an environment that creates inflation is a closed environment. In a fully open market, inflation won't happen. If the goods in this area become expensive, cheaper goods would come in from outside, and the prices will be forced down immediately. If some goods run short, foreign goods will come in at once. A true free market won't have inflation.

In fact, the world hasn't seen any runaway inflation in the past several decades. By contrast, due to globalization, we have seen quite a few scenarios of deflation. And in the future, the only situation that the world will face is deflation, not inflation. China's current inflation is caused by the government's insistence on a fixed exchange rate that blocks free trade.

After joining the WTO, the CCP government realized that tariffs are losing their effect. They used the exchange rate as a one-size-fits-all solution for their economic woes, including reducing their bad debts. As the RMB appreciates, national wealth increases. To buy an imported car, people used to pay 200,000 yuan; now they only pay 150,000 yuan; anything wrong with that? No. But the CCP doesn't care about people's interests; they only want to maintain their own power. Their top priority is to reduce bad debt; they don't allow privately owned banks to operate in China. They also protect those government-owned banks from collapsing. In the economic arena, the CCP's control and deceiving propaganda over people's minds is quite effective.

Everybody might have seen that, China's real estate prices are on the rise. Why? Recently some Chinese economists rumored a conspiracy theory. According to them, Morgan-Stanley was telling everyone that China' economy is doomed while on the other hand investing heavily in China's real estate. They believed that Morgan Stanley has a conspiracy against China; that they want to sabotage China's economy. Actually, they understood it wrongly. The Chinese Government believes that foreign capital was holding nearly US$100 million dollars to push up the price of the RMB. But in reality, anyone who buys RMB with dollars will lose money since the RMB will depreciate. The Morgan Stanley Bank is not stupid. Some investors from the West, such as Morgan Stanley, buy real estate in China because they are convinced that the RMB will devalue but the real estate will hold its value. If RMB depreciates, the real estate will appreciate; at least it won't devalue. Real estate is the most secure commodity in China. Under these circumstances, people buy real estate because they see the RMB going down, not because the overseas banks and financial capital try to force the RMB to appreciate. Even though the price of Chinese real estate is high, they believe that after the money entered China, it can't leave China, because a Chinese regulation says, "if the companies don't want to pay the tax for their net profit, the money should stay in China;" therefore they buy real estate with their net profit. The predicted appreciation for real estate is much better than that for the RMB. It is very blurring on the surface; common people can't see it; but if you do a study you will see that all the European and U.S. companies view the RMB as a seller. In other words, they foresee inflation in China. None of the foreign companies want to keep the RMB; they are converting the RMB into something more secure.

The biggest issue with inflation is that it temporarily alleviates the pain caused by the economy today but it pushes the real problems to the future. China is undergoing an economic reform without much planning and coordination. Inflation will have a severe impact on the Chinese economy and society in the future. Even though the current bad debts are resolved, the government encouraged inflation without a good social security system. This will hurt China badly in the next few years. It will induce social turmoil and economic troubles.

(Clearwisdom.net) Everything we Dafa practitioners do is for the purpose of saving sentient beings. But in the past months, some practitioners in China have been puzzled and did not know what "measurement" to use in order to judge whether sentient beings have been saved or not: would the criterion be how much they knew of the truth about Dafa? Or whether they have published the statement on the website to withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Youth League and the Young Pioneers League (the "three withdrawal statements")?

These practitioners are thinking: If the sentient beings have already known the truth about Dafa, but have not yet published the "three withdrawal statements," can they be saved? If one can only be saved by publishing the statements online, then why do people need to understand the truth about Dafa? The practitioners who raised these questions think that once they have an answer to the issue of "how the sentient beings are counted as being saved," then it could be known who has been saved, and they could therefore better manage their truth-clarification activities. For instance, they feel that if someone is saved, then it is not necessary to spend any more time with them, or they will know which group of people needs more truth-clarification and which group of people can be put aside for the moment, and so on.

Some other practitioners said that until now, they still haven't been able to understand the true connotation, from the Fa, of Master's teaching:

"If a person doesn't withdraw from it, he is a part of it, one of its particles, and a part of its composition, and he will become a target for elimination by all gods." ("Turning the Wheel Towards the Human World")

How can one be counted as having withdrawn? What shall we do to help people to withdraw from the CCP?

Surprisingly, being puzzled in this regard has caused some practitioners to temporarily lose the motivation to clarify the truth about Dafa. Among them, quite a large number of practitioners have focused their efforts on distributing the Nine Commentaries on the Chinese Communist Party and helping people to withdraw from the party. Of course they did it rationally and identified themselves as ordinary people. They think that this is the most urgent matter at this moment, that it is no longer important to clarify the truth about Dafa. Some even have stopped clarifying the truth about Dafa.

Actually, more practitioners in China will know the answer to these questions when their hearts are calm, especially those practitioners who have a solid foundation in cultivation. Over the past few months, many articles have been published on the Minghui website [the Chinese version of Clearwisdom] for discussion concerning these questions and from different perspectives. But some practitioners' ways of thinking have been too rigid. For example, when something happens, they would regard only this thing as being important and other things as not being important; or, they even thought that other issues cannot exist at the same time as whatever new event or situation has just occurred. Alternatively, they always look at things in an isolated way. They were unable to find the direct answers that they'd been pursuing from certain words or sentences, and day after day, they would become more worried and nervous.

Actually, such puzzles could not appear if we would look at things with our divine side. It is our human way of thinking and our being inoculated in the CCP's culture for such a long time that has caused us to look at things in such a way. Since it has been exposed, we should let go of it, rather than continue to think and pursue by complying with such things. The Gods look at things in a harmonized way and beyond human notions; they look at things beyond human matters. When something happens, if we look at its fundamental nature, we will not change or get puzzled because the environment changes and new situations appear.

Concerning the question of how the sentient beings can be counted as being saved, it is not possible that a practitioner who is persistent in "Fa" study would not know the answer. From Master's teaching, I understand that a sentient being's attitude toward Dafa during the Fa-rectification is fundamental for people to finally be saved.

What Master taught is the Fa, rather than the specific answer to a particular human problem or task. Why did the Nine Commentaries appear and why are they being actively promoted through the overseas media and non-government channels in China? Isn't this a change of the cosmos? This is exactly what is needed for saving the sentient beings and letting people know that Dafa is good.

Dafa practitioners have been clarifying the truth for several years, and many people have understood the truth and have therefore built a bright future for themselves. But there are still a lot of people who have been deeply poisoned by the CCP culture and who have been heavily blocked; therefore they do not want to listen to the truth-clarification at all. Just as Master has taught in "We Are Not 'Getting Political',"

"That has resulted in Falun Gong students indeed seeing, as they go about exposing the persecution and clarifying the facts, that some Chinese won't listen one bit to what they have to say. Those people truly believe that what the Party says is surely correct, that what the Communist government says are surely correct, and they believe that Falun Gong really is as the CCP portrays it."

The number of such people is not small, and many of them have a very high foundation for cultivation. As we want to save them, we surely should spend more effort in targeting those specific obstacles.

Only after clearly realizing the CCP's control of people, will these individuals have the chance of making their own choices (instead of letting the evil spirit possession of the CCP make the choices for them). Isn't it true that the Nine Commentaries is a powerful weapon that breaks through the obstacles that prevent these people from knowing the truth? The withdrawal from the CCP also serves the purpose of urging these people to make the right choices. Therefore, having people read the Nine Commentaries is not the sole purpose of our clarifying the truth, neither is the withdrawal from the CCP. The purpose is to let people, through their actions of withdrawing from the CCP, express their attitudes of being determined to break away from the evil Party's control. After people really choose to read the Nine Commentaries and withdraw from the CCP, the gods will eliminate the evil party's elements in their minds and the evil Communist spirit that controls them. Then these people will be able to return to their original state. When they see the truth-clarification materials the next time, they will be able to make their own choice, based on their own conscience of whether to accept the truth or not, which is their own true choice.

After many people read the Nine Commentaries and declared their withdrawal from the CCP, without the need of further explanations, they can easily accept the truth of Dafa, assuming an attitude that is quite different from what they had before. This is the power of the Nine Commentaries. Therefore, having people read the Nine Commentaries is not the goal, but instead is an important step in eliminating the obstacles that hinder the salvation of people. If someone has read the Nine Commentaries and also has withdrawn from the CCP, but still does not acknowledge the fact that Dafa is good, is it that he or she is among those who, because of their own choices, "pass this disaster and fail to pass another one?" For these people, we can only try our best to save them but without being attached to the results. Master has mentioned the celestial phenomenon in which " the entire population is going to step forward to oppose the persecution" I believe that when the cosmic change reaches its climax, every ordinary person will need to make his or her ultimate choice in front of Dafa. As for the whole society standing up to oppose the persecution, this is a celestial phenomenon and it surely will occur when the time is due. By doing what we are doing now, that is, breaking through the obstacles and clarifying the truth about Dafa and the persecution, we are cooperating with the development of the cosmic change.

When new situations become known, it will increase our current workload in Fa-rectification but at the same time, make what we have been doing become even more effective. Whether it is clarifying the truth or breaking up interferences, all of this is not the work of ordinary people and cannot be perceived with the mentality of ordinary people.

In different periods of time, what Dafa disciples need to do will change. Dafa disciples need to do all the work at the same time, in different aspects, with different emphases, and in different ways.

In July 2001, Master mentioned in "Teaching the Fa at the Washington, D.C. International Fa Conference,"

"You are one body, just like Master's gong. Of course you and gong aren't the same thing, I'm just giving an example. It's just like my gong, which does different things at the same time. Some of it is continuously charging through the immense cosmos with tremendous force into the microcosm, toward what's higher and broader; the force is so massive and the speed is so fast, transcending all times as it rectifies the colossal firmament. Some of it, after this charging, eliminates the sinful karma of the beings at different levels and balances all the interwoven relationships among beings at different levels. Some of it assimilates beings, and some of it is repositioning beings. It's doing different things even at the beings' most microcosmic levels, at every level. Some of it does things in low dimensions, some of it protects the students, and some of it is cleaning out the evil--every facet of my gong is doing these things. In other words, one body doesn't necessarily do one thing. But no matter what you do, you need to be worthy of being called a Dafa disciple." ("Teaching the Fa at the Washington, D.C. Whenever we gain a new understanding of the Fa, it is because we have met the xinxing requirements for Dafa practitioners and have no pursuits. It is the Buddhas, Taos, and Gods in the book (Zhuan Falun) who have revealed the meaning of the Fa to us. It is not like we "became smart" or "know it after thinking about it," as is believed by ordinary people. So it is very important for us to always cultivate ourselves, pay attention and to search within ourselves in the face of conflicts. We cannot hold very strong attachments and human notions to pursue and gain more understanding of the Fa; when we hold such strong attachments, how could the gods reveal the meaning of the Fa to us? Only when we do not use our pre-formed ways of thinking, and when we let go of our attachment of wanting others to think of things according to our own mindsets, can we truly understand the nature of the issues.

(Clearwisdom.net) Lately, I have observed many fellow practitioners sending forth righteous thoughts against persecution from sickness karma or to keep from being persecuted. Regarding this matter, I have some thoughts to share with everyone.

Some time ago, I was responsible for organizing an activity that was going to be held in our area. As everyone had different ideas, an agreement couldn't be reached although it was really a very simple matter. I lost my patience and moreover did not search within myself for the cause of the conflict. On top of that, my old impression of the shortcomings of fellow practitioners reemerged. Gradually, I became more impatient and no longer wanted to be responsible for organizing the activity. This attitude indicated that I was still doing things with an ordinary person's mindset. The conflict within me became bigger and bigger, until I just wanted to give up and let everyone do whatever they wanted. However, I held on to the thought that I needed to face the problem instead of giving up. I felt that because we are here to save sentient beings, this activity shouldn't be delayed any further. I decided to ignore other practitioners' shortcomings and I eliminated my own bad thoughts. I reinforced my positive thoughts about fellow practitioners and about myself. That helped me to believe in fellow practitioners' abilities and negated the wrong element between us, and I also believed in myself since I am a Dafa practitioner. Suddenly, I felt calm and relaxed and all the conflicts disappeared. Everything returned to normal.

Gradually, I came to realize that if we thought that we were being interfered with and persecuted, and we attempted to eliminate the interference and persecution, we were actually at the same level as the unrighteous being doing the persecuting and had no power to restrain it. On the surface, sending forth righteous thoughts seemed solve the problem, however the root of the problem had not been resolved.

We study the Fa every day and we all know that when we obtained the Fa, Teacher said that we would be free of illness. What does that mean? When a person really enters into a true cultivation state, he will be free of illness. That is to say that when one has reached the mindset of a cultivator, one is no longer restrained by birth, aging, sickness, or death.

We are reborn in Dafa. Teacher came to rectify the Fa and give us new life. How could we be restricted by the principles of the old universe? We cannot. No being is qualified to interfere with us, to persecute us or to destroy the life created in Fa-rectification, especially because we are the future Buddhas, Taos and Gods.

What is totally negating the old forces? It is to negate them in our thoughts. When a non-righteous event related to Fa-rectification or Fa-rectification period practitioners occurs, we negate it in our thoughts right away. It is to negate the non-righteous factors being forced upon Dafa practitioners. The non-righteous situation affecting the Dafa practitioners should not be there. We do not acknowledge it, since it is not qualified to test our practitioners and it is nothing.

For example, when a practitioner collapses from sickness karma, we usually inform other practitioners immediately to help send forth righteous thoughts or to go to the hospital to accompany a practitioner in order to help him or her study the Fa. If we think about it more carefully, these thoughts have already acknowledged the old forces' persecution and interference with that practitioner. Under the situation of acknowledging the persecution and interference, we then send forth righteous thoughts to break through the interference. It can achieve some effect on the surface, but it cannot negate the problem from the root.

Teacher clearly pointed out that the principle of mutual-generation and mutual-inhibition is a principle from the past and that it will change in the future. If we follow the old cosmic law in doing things, we will be controlled by the principle of mutual-generation and mutual-inhibition and meet with equivalent resistance. When we recognize this principle from the core, we will be able to break away from the old universe and enter the new universe.

Teacher told us,

"The old forces don't dare to oppose our clarifying the truth or saving sentient beings. What's key is to not let them take advantage of the gaps in your state of mind when you do things."

("Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Boston")

That is to say that clarifying the truth will be successful. But, if we follow the principles of the old universe, we passively send forth righteous thoughts and look within when interference occurs. To follow the righteous Fa-principles is to constantly correct ourselves. When we encounter a problem, we make a choice; to choose the interference is not valid. Choosing to save sentient beings cannot be opposed by anyone.

What are righteous thoughts? Righteous thoughts are generated from righteous Fa-principles. Such behaviors are generated from righteous action. When righteous thoughts are based on the old universe principles, they are human thoughts. With this in mind, my thoughts are clearer, my mind becomes calmer, and my main consciousness becomes stronger. When I become sleepy during Fa study, I tell myself and all beings that I choose to study the Fa and no being can interfere, because it is my own choice. When I heard a practitioner mentioning sleepiness during Fa study due to interference, I told her that when she mentioned it this way, she had already acknowledged it as interference. It is nothing; it is not qualified to interfere with Fa-rectification period practitioners. We need to negate it from the root.

Last Saturday when I was going to take my children to see the "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" International Art Exhibition, I found that my son had a fever when I went to wake him up. I wasn't moved by it. I dismissed it as a tribulation or interference. I told myself that I negate any non-righteous factors imposed on young Dafa practitioners by any non-righteous beings. I sent forth this thought three times continuously; and the fever disappeared in three seconds.

One Sunday morning I brought my children with me to attend Fa study. As we boarded the bus, my daughter complained that she had a stomachache. I wasn't moved by it. I calmly told her to negate any bad element imposed upon her. I also negated any non-righteous factors imposed upon young Dafa practitioners. I continued to study the Fa and was not moved by it. Her pain disappeared a few minutes later.

That afternoon when I went to attend an experience sharing meeting, I started to have a stomachache and later, diarrhea. I knew this was a test of my understanding of the Fa by the non-righteous beings. It is not qualified to test me, so I wasn't moved by it and continued to share experiences with other practitioners. I learned a lot from the sharing. My stomachache worsened by the time the sharing ended. I began to look within and strengthened my righteous thoughts. I told myself and all other beings that I negated all non-righteous factors imposed upon me by the non-righteous beings. At the same time, I used my righteous thoughts to eliminate it. I felt fine five minutes later.

All these happenings, as I look back, are really nothing. It did not matter what I had encountered, I just negated the non-righteous factor imposed on me by the non-righteous beings. I chose to be a Dafa practitioner and those non-righteous beings were not qualified to interfere with me, nor were they qualified to persecute me. If it were to continue to interfere with me, I would not hesitate to send forth righteous thoughts to eradicate it.

When encountering a practitioner's improper condition, I do my best to share my experience with them. My mind is not moved by their situation. I have only one thought: I choose to believe in fellow practitioners and I negate all non-righteous factors imposed on fellow practitioners. I will not impose any non-righteous thinking on fellow practitioners. I know from the Fa that matter and mind are the same thing. When incorrect manifestations occurred among my kids, I wasn't moved by it. I chose to believe that they are the Dafa practitioners who know how to do things well. Then, as their mother, I will tell them the correct way. I found they would do exceedingly well. I found that when our thoughts are pure and righteous, everything turns out correctly. Our natural instinct knows clearly how to handle everything correctly.

I came to a deeper understanding of what Teacher said:

"That is, if you calmly see things with the Celestial Eye and without using your mind, what you observe is true. If you start to think a little, what you see will be false. This is called demonic interference from one's own mind, or 'transformation follows mind-intent.'" (Zhuan Falun, Lecture Six - Demonic Interference from One's Own Mind)

When our mind is moved, our optic nerve will interfere and everything we see will be false. My own experience and result are just like what Teacher said:

"The Buddha light illuminates everywhere,

Propriety and justice rectify and harmonize everything."

For a long time, I felt that I had remained stuck in one state and I could not break through it. I did everything I could, but I felt I was surrounded by a layer of something invisible. Now it is all clear.

I would like to advise fellow practitioners to calm your minds and think about certain behaviors and speech of yours that still acknowledge the persecution. We should remember to choose our own future and strengthen our righteous understanding.

(Clearwisdom.net) I started to learn Falun Dafa before July 20, 1999 when the persecution began. With firm faith in Teacher and Falun Dafa, I have passed through nearly six years of the brutal reign of terror. After much reflection, I would like to write down my personal cultivation experiences in the Fa-rectification period over the past several years, to share with fellow practitioners.

Since childhood, I have been full of questions about human life, wondering where human life originates and where it goes. I looked for the answer in books and on my life's path. My colleagues who practiced Falun Gong read and chatted about the book, Zhuan Falun at lunchtime every day. After I listened for a long time, I could tell that this book was unusual. A fellow practitioner recommended his Falun Gong practice site to me. I did not have the book, so I borrowed one and attended group study every day. I felt that this book was truly very profound, and it explained many principles of being an upright person. Since then, my philosophy and human concepts have been changed and my life was altered. It was an important choice in my life.

Through repeatedly reading the book and learning the five sets of exercises, after more than two months, I was able to go from sitting in the half-lotus position to sitting in the full lotus position with both legs crossed in the tranquil meditation. At one point, I developed symptoms of "illness karma," and my fever nearly reached 104 degrees Fahrenheit. I did not undergo acupuncture or take medicine, but the fever left and I became normal in about four days. I felt my body was much more relaxed, and so I passed the first test of eliminating karma.

Falun Dafa has changed my path in life. My surrounding environment and family life all became harmonious. I not only obtained a healthy body, but also improved the manner in which I dealt with others. I told my relatives and friends about my personal experience and benefits. My mother and younger sister also joined me in practicing Falun Dafa.

After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, in order to ask for justice for Falun Gong, many practitioners went to the relevant city and provincial departments to conduct peaceful appeals, but it was no use; we found that we had no place to speak out. The fully armed police drove away the peaceful practitioners, beat some of them and arrested others. Suddenly, dark clouds arose, and the situation became extremely terrible. We were arrested and taken by car to the local sports arena. We practitioners were not frightened by the aggressive arrogance of the police and tried to talk reasonably to them and recited Lunyu. Later, the police took us to a school in the Ling District. Practitioners practiced the exercises together in front of the police without a bit of fear. All day until nightfall, police officers from each district registered and took us back to our former work units and neighborhood centers. On the second day, the work units began to confiscate our Falun Gong books, and thus we could no longer study the books and practicing the exercises together.

I was blacklisted at my workplace and became an object of surveillance and was looked upon as a key participant in our peaceful appeal. The cadres at my workplace often spoke with me, and the area police frequently came to my home and harassed me. People around me also tried to convince me, "Are you still practicing? Are you against the government?" They would advise, "The forearm can't overcome the thigh," or "Don't use an egg to bump the stone," [these are well-known Chinese expressions] and "In the end, you will suffer losses, even implicate your family, affect your child's going to school," and so on. I told them, "The television and newspapers are all propaganda tools in the service of the government. They fabricate lies and frame cases against Falun Gong, call white black, and confuse people about the reality what they see and hear. If Falun Gong were not good, would so many people learn it? The law should respect human rights. Freedom of belief is a citizen's right. The real reason for the persecution is that the government fears that Falun Gong practitioners are outnumbering Communist Party members, and so they are afraid of losing their personal power. Falun Dafa is welcomed in every country around the world and has received much recognition in China. Don't those facts explain the problem?" I did not give up Falun Dafa, but persisted in studying the book and practicing the exercises, and never stopped. I can give up everything else in the world, but not Dafa. As long as I don't lose my faith, I am able to get through the toughest moments in life.

While I was in the confusion brought about by the persecution, I obtained Teacher's new articles, which directed me on my cultivation path. I deeply felt Teacher's great mercy and Dafa practitioners' important responsibilities. We have entered cultivation in the Fa-rectification period. We not only need to complete our personal cultivation but also we need to clarify the truth and save sentient beings. Because we are Dafa disciples in the Fa-rectification period, we shoulder great historical missions. We must wash away the injustice suffered by Dafa and let people who are deceived by the lies understand the truth. Only by experiencing the ordeals of the persecution did I realize that the group study and practice in the old days were so precious. I contacted fellow practitioners from former days. Although we no longer have the big practice site, we have resumed our small study group.

There are many ways to clarify the truth, such as distributing truth-clarification flyers and VCD's, hanging small banners, and posting notices. Big streets and small lanes all can exhibit practitioners' footprints in validating the Fa, letting poisoned people know the true situation and alarming the evildoers. The truth-clarification materials are placed everywhere: in people's mailboxes, in building corridors, and in bicycle baskets. While handing out materials, I got rid of my fear. I regularly clarified the truth in public areas including departmental buildings, hospitals and schools. I delivered truth-clarification materials to people with predestined relationships. After a long period of tempering myself, I have become braver.

Mighty Virtue

Dafa never leaves the body,
Heart contains Zhen-Shan-Ren;
A great Arhat in the world,
Spirits and ghosts fear the most.

At work, I clarify the truth to people around me. By speaking to them face to face, I have cleared away the evil factors around them and caused some people to change their attitudes towards Dafa and to recognize the evil essence of Jiang Zemin's regime. The awakened people are silently supporting us in their hearts.

A great way has no form but exists as a whole entity. Dafa practitioners in the Fa-rectification period need to cooperate together even more, so that we can do the three things well, form a powerful energy field, and accomplish the objective of the main body.

The old forces' interferences have created gaps among practitioners. Some practitioners study the Fa and practice the exercises at home and are unable to step forward to validate Dafa. They thus remain in the state of individual cultivation, as things were prior to 1999. Practitioners who lose contact with each other improve very slowly and find it difficult to follow the process of Fa-rectification.

It is extremely important to maintain the cultivation environment that Teacher left for Dafa practitioners: group study, sharing together, and frequent communication. Although we may have different understandings and points of view when we discuss things, it is all normal and provides good opportunities for us to improve our xinxing. But we can achieve mutual understandings. Because some elderly practitioners are illiterate, they have difficulties in learning the Fa. They can read through Zhuan Falun, but it is a great effort for them to read Teacher's new articles and lectures outside of China. I often read Teacher's new articles with the elderly practitioners, and read articles from Minghui Weekly [a selection of articles from the Clearwisdom website] to them. I treat fellow practitioner's affairs as my own affairs, so differences in age and social situations can be removed.

I have kept in contact with fellow practitioners for several years. I have delivered Teacher's articles, weekly news and some truth-clarification materials them. More than five years of repeated difficulties have enabled me to mature. Now I am able to look inward, strive forward with other practitioners, assimilate to Dafa, and continuously advance the Fa. I do not use human notions when looking at issues, and do not leave any excuse for the evil to distance me from the whole body. I work hard to help my fellow practitioners keep up and not fall behind.

From primary school to high school, I experienced the "Cultural Revolution" and grew up under the education of the "Chinese Communist Party (CCP) culture." The absolute ideological education of atheism was instilled into every aspect of our lives and became part of each of our perspectives. The Party culture is an evil lie with beautiful clothes. No matter how beautiful and elevated it sounds, no matter how pleasant its songs of praise, they are all feigned. It causes me great anguish to know that all those years I was deceived by the sweet words of the Communist evil spirit. Now I completely negate the old forces, eradicate the Communist evil spirit, purify myself, quit all organizations with any relation to the CCP, sweep away its baneful influence, make a clear distinction, and recall my true self that has been lost in a maze.

The publication of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party has made quite a stir in the world. Practitioners and awakened people throughout the world have been moved to quit the CCP. This phenomenon is a warning to people, and to practitioners; it is a very serious matter.

Teacher told us in "Turning the Wheel Towards the Human World,"

"Dafa disciples do not want to leave behind any blemishes; their making a renunciation is not 'getting political,' and even less is it going through a formality. Rather, it is an attachment that needs to be removed in cultivation. No one can reach Consummation if they remain marked by, or if they acknowledge, the most evil thing in the entire cosmos. In addition, only when Dafa disciples are able to clearly recognize it for what it is, purge it from their minds and no longer let it interfere with their thinking, can they have stronger righteous thoughts and do well what Dafa disciples should do; it is a step in cultivation that you have to take."

This displays practitioners' righteous faith towards Dafa and Teacher.

The above is only my personal enlightenment at a very limited level. Please kindly correct any mistakes.

(Clearwisdom.net) According to news obtained on the Internet two days ago, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is arresting Dafa practitioners on a large scale, nationwide. Based on this information and what I have heard and seen, I want to share some of my understandings of the matter.

From the beginning of the Fa-rectification to present, why do arrests still occur on a large scale? All Dafa practitioners, especially those in China, need to treat this issue seriously. I personally believe that it is time that every one of us, being a part of the one body, particularly the practitioners who are directly affected by the persecution, think about the issue carefully.

We know that the persecution is evil and vicious. But we are cultivators of Dafa, and because we are Dafa disciples with mighty powers given by Master, we can disintegrate the evil.

"Indestructible righteous faith in the cosmos's Truth forms benevolent Dafa disciples' rock-solid, Diamond-Like Bodies, it frightens all evil, and the light of Truth it emanates makes the unrighteous elements in all beings' thoughts disintegrate. However strong the righteous thoughts are, that's how great the power is." ("Also in a Few Words" from Essentials for Further Advancement II)

I've noticed several issues affecting Dafa practitioners.

1. Some practitioners have failed to study and understand the Fa well. As I exchange views with fellow practitioners around me, I notice that many practitioners still use their own notions to understand the Fa. They humanly imagine something and fail to comprehensively understand the Fa that Master has taught. For example, they cannot correctly understand the Fa of "selflessness and altruism" (from "Non-Omission in Buddha-Nature" in Essentials for Further Advancement) and of "...everything that's done in validating the Fa is done for yourselves--not a single thing is done for me, and that includes the things I've told you to do." ("Teaching the Fa at the 2004 Western U.S. Fa Conference") They also often quote out of context and use their own notions to understand the Fa and to justify themselves when they fail to do the three things well.

2. There is the issue of whether one truly has faith in Dafa. This is ultimately the key issue.

"So as a cultivator, what is truly remarkable is when you can be steadfast and have righteous thoughts so firm that nothing can sway you. Be solid and firm like diamond, or granite, and then nothing can affect you--evil will be afraid at the mere sight of you. If upon encountering trying circumstances your thinking can be truly righteous, then, when faced with the evil's persecution and when faced with interference, just one sentence of yours fortified with steadfast righteous thoughts can instantly make the evil disintegrate (applause), and it will make those who are being used by the evil turn and flee, it will make the evil's persecution of you dissolve, and it will make the evil's interfering with you disappear without a trace. One thought born of righteous faith is all it takes. And whoever can hold firm that righteous thought and go the distance will become a magnificent god forged by Dafa." ("Teaching the Fa at the Western U.S. International Fa Conference")

How much a practitioner believes in Dafa is how much mighty power he or she possesses. With strong belief, the evil beings will have no way to exist around you.

3. Some practitioners have not done well in clarifying the truth, and they are also not very clear about the facts of the persecution.

4. Some practitioners have not put enough effort in doing Dafa work. They don't steadily keep doing well the three things, especially truth-clarification. Some practitioners are bogged down with issues in their daily lives, families, and their busy everyday person's work, continually being in troubled situations. They cannot even find time to think about what they are doing. There are also practitioners who only study the Fa at home and do not step out to clarify the truth. And when they occasionally clarify the truth, they only talk to their relatives and family members.

5. When encountering problems, some practitioners fail to view the issues from the perspective of a Dafa cultivator and using the principles that Dafa practitioners should follow. They fail to view and handle the issues from within the Fa.

6. Some practitioners still lack understanding about the issue of personal cultivation during the Fa-rectification period. They fail to realize that the requirements of Dafa practitioners have become even stricter as Fa-rectification cultivation draws closer to the end.

7. Some practitioners don't fully understand the issue of completely negating the old forces' arrangements. During my interactions with fellow practitioners, I find that many have failed to thoroughly achieve the ability to "completely negate" the old forces' arrangements. They only say that they want to completely negate the arrangements, as Master taught. For example, I told a fellow practitioner that there is a practitioner who was once brainwashed by the police and became a "collaborator," helping the police brainwash other practitioners. Later, he realized his mistake and started to cultivate in Dafa again. But before long, he was arrested again. We sent forth righteous thoughts to help him eliminate the evil that was interfering with him. After listening to my words, this practitioner said that he had done so many bad things while he was a collaborator, that he has to pay for his previous actions, and that his tribulations will certainly be big. This was to say that his arrest was his fate and he could not escape from it. I immediately pointed out that he had unknowingly acknowledged the old forces' arrangements. It was true he had to pay back the karma he accumulated, but this can be rectified within Dafa, and there is no need for the evil beings to resort to their evil means in this regard. It is Dafa that makes Dafa disciples, and it is not the old evil forces that make us.

Let me share one of my understandings. I find that I want to sleep a lot and that I do not have much willpower when it comes to sleeping less. I sometimes do not get up in the morning to meditate, and instead try to sleep more. After I was sent to a forced labor camp, I was not allowed to sleep until late at night and I was forced to get up early in the morning. I was not allowed to sleep for long periods of time. However, amidst the evil persecution, I was still very energetic. I sometimes felt that I was clearheaded all the time, because what I was facing was the old forces that always want to ruin us. I even thought that the forced labor had instead trained and helped me. However, after my release I again fell into the habit of getting up late in the morning, and sometimes I even became slack in my Fa study. I thus realized that the forced labor term had not helped me eliminate my problem of wanting more sleep! It is Master who is compassionately guiding me, and it is Dafa that is shaping me! Based on this experience, I gained that bit of understanding about completely negating the old forces' arrangements. Through studying the Fa often, I have gained even deeper understandings.

Overall, the evil is just evil. When the evil can find our loopholes in order to take advantage of them, it is definitely because we ourselves have some incorrect notions, or that we walk on a path that does not meet Dafa's criteria. It is our own mental states that cause these issues to occur. Of course, I do not mean that the bad things would happen to us simply because we have shortcomings, as we are Dafa disciples and we negate these bad things. However, regarding all the issues that have recently surfaced, we must look at our own shortcomings. We should study the Fa well and correct these issues in a timely manner. In this way we can compensate for the losses that have occurred during the persecution. In this way we can completely disintegrate the evil beings.

(Clearwisdom.net) Xiao Lian, Xiao Xiang and I organized a Falun Gong truth-clarification materials production site. We had been working well together. One day, a fellow practitioner asked us to make a batch of truth-clarification VCDs. I didn't have money to make the VCD's, so I talked to Xiao Lian and asked if she would be willing to pitch in. Xiao Lian gladly agreed and said she would meet me the next day and give me the money for the supplies. On the following day, she came and told me that Xiao Xiang had the money but she did not approve of the project. I didn't say anything to Xiao Lian, but I started brooding. After I returned, I thought, "Was it wrong for me to solicit a donation from Xiao Xiang? It is such an urgent matter to save people." I was morose and gloomy. I didn't do the volunteer work I had promised because I was so upset with Xiao Xiang. Then I read Minghui Weekly and came across an excellent article. I started searching inward and realized that I was not behaving like a Falun Gong practitioner, as I had been seeking fault in others. I needed to look inward for my own attachments. It does not matter who pays for the VCDs because the situation was just a reflection of the root cause in my heart. In other words, it is only an illusion created to test me. Later when I met Xiao Xiang, I shared with her my honest understanding of this issue. Xiao Xiang said, "If you had come to me yesterday [without looking inward] I wouldn't have given the money for the VCDs." We smiled at each other understandingly. Then she gave me the money and we had the truth-clarification VCDs made.

One day we brought a printer back to our site. Xiao Xiang said we should put it in a chest to reduce the noise of printing. She said she had seen it done by our predecessors at the truth-clarification materials site. After Xiao Lian and Xiao Xiang carried the printer to a chest, I started to run the printer. It was a low chest, so I had to bend over to work the printer. After bending over for a short while, I started to develop a headache. I became a little nauseated and agitated. Gradually, I started losing my temper. I kept complaining while printing truth-clarification materials. "Are you sure this is a good idea? Aren't we slowing down our production?" Xiao Xiang started arguing with me and losing her temper as well. I expected her to recant her decision and move the printer out of the chest, but she didn't do so. I became increasingly emotional. Finally Xiao Lian and I moved the printer out of the chest without Xiao Xiang's approval. It was then we discovered that all the printed materials were completely messed up. We printed out a new batch, but they didn't look much better. I became furious.

Then I dropped everything at hand. I calmed down and thought, "What am I doing? What is the point of losing my temper or being morose and gloomy? The old forces will exploit it when I feel anxious or upset." Next, I made a conscious effort to say determinedly to myself in my heart, "I refuse to acknowledge the old forces! I am determined to deny the old forces!" I thought for a moment and realized that I was partially responsible for all the problems we had been facing since the printer entered the door. The degenerate matter in my thoughts had a negative influence on Xiao Lian and Xiao Xiang. When I found my problem, I apologized to them. Suddenly, the tension among us disappeared and soon we were able to print the materials normally.

Afterwards I tried to evaluate myself according to the Fa. Why did I fail to seek inward right away when I ran into obstacles? Why had I always sought the faults in others as my first response? I am a cultivator with so many attachments to be eliminated. It is necessary to expose all of my attachments in conflicts in order to identify and eliminate them. Hence, I should treasure each and every opportunity to cultivate myself and upgrade my xinxing. Only when we purify ourselves will we be able to purify our environment.

(Clearwisdom.net) I am a college professor, and I teach modern science. When I started practicing Falun Gong, I did not balance the relationship between work and cultivation, due to my attachment of complacency. I treated teaching solely as a job. With the passage of time, I realized that my attitude was wrong. After continuously studying the Fa, I better understood what Master told us: everything is for the Fa. So, my occupation, teaching, is for the Fa too. Although I realized this, doing well in this area has still not been easy.

One day, at the end of one of my lectures, I decided to speak out on behalf of Falun Gong. While talking about the limitations and inconsistencies of modern science, I explained that Falun Gong is not pseudo-science. My students were very interested in what I had to say.

Afterwards, I felt afraid that I would suffer persecution for my actions. Then, I studied the Fa very hard for many days; finally I could control my fear. Later, some colleagues of mine told me that the college directors held a meeting about my truth clarification talk, but they had not reached a conclusion. Because my righteous thoughts were not strong enough, I did not clarify the truth during my classes for a while after that.

To be able to explain the truth smoothly, I repeatedly watched several truth clarifying VCDs and took notes. Then I recited my notes again and again to make sure I accurately knew all of the key information. I prepared for truth clarification talks the same way that I prepared my class lectures. I realized that the format for preparing and teaching lessons is for the Fa, and I should use this format to clarify the facts about the persecution. There is an old saying: "The teacher is for distributing the truth, imparting knowledge, and dispelling bewilderment." As a teacher, my basic responsibility is to impart knowledge to my students. The most important aspect of this should be teaching them the importance of ethical values, clearing up their confusion and helping them to avoid immoral detours in life.

I even taught a science class that combined three topics into one. In my lectures, in addition to the required curriculum, I also talked about bad phenomena in our current society. I lectured about traditional stories and classic works, such as stories about Confucius, Laozi, and Falun Gong practitioners. When I was discussing righteousness and moral values, I also cared about the students' feelings and always tried to advise, not blame.

In one instance, I expressed my sincere sympathy to a student concerning a dilemma he was facing. That student was so moved that he sent me a bottle of water during the following class to show his respect. I realized that showing compassion was not enough; I needed to clarify the truth to them, as the truth is the key for all beings to understand the reasons for all the recent calamities. This was the reason that they were my students. The next day after I sent forth righteous thoughts, I debunked the so-called "Tiananmen Square self-immolation" and told my students that Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance are the traditional values of our society. Although some students did not at first respond with a positive attitude, they grew silent after I sent forth righteous thoughts for a second time.

When my righteous thoughts were not strong enough, I could not clarify the truth well during class. During those times, I was only able to show my compassion, but I could not speak out about the persecution.

I realized that I could walk on the right path only if I followed the Fa. When I read recent articles by fellow practitioners, I could see that they were all becoming more and more mature. They are no longer trying to imitate others, and they are more diligently following the Fa, always looking inside themselves. They are no longer pursuing results on the surface, but are doing well in every respect, including in small details. And those small details really reflect their steady faith and the power gained from their cultivation.

After Master published the new lecture about purging the Communist evil specter and saving those who have been deceived by the Communist culture, I realized that I should combine clarifying the truth and distributing the Nine Commentaries together. I should not only speak about the persecution of Falun Gong and what Falun Gong is, but also explain why the Communist Party persecutes Falun Gong and explain the Communist Party's evil nature. I need to clearly connect the relationship between these two factors.

The college I work at is a so-called "Political College," where the Communist culture is very strong. To talk about the persecution and the Nine Commentaries, I have to keep strong righteous thoughts, use wisdom gained from the Fa, and pay close attention to my students' ability to understand. During the last class, I started a discussion with a student and brought in topics such as the "self-immolation" and the fact that Falun Gong is practiced and welcomed around the world. Then, I asked why the Chinese Communist Party would persecute Falun Gong. The student answered that it was because Falun Gong was involved in political issues. In response, I talked about the real situation of the "April 25," 1999, appeal and the jealousy of Jiang Zemin. Then I talked about the tyrannical history of the Communist Party and its atrocious nature. At last, that student understood and agreed with my point.

The only way to fulfill our mission as Falun Gong practitioners is through studying the Fa more and well. When we clean up unrighteous notions and improve our understanding of the Fa, we will be able to catch up with the progress of the Fa-rectification.

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Cheng Xueshan was a 64-year-old Falun Dafa practitioner from Tongjiang City, Heilongjiang Province. On April 9, 2005, while distributing truth-clarifying materials in Nongqiao Town, Fuyuan County, he was arrested by Zhang Sidong and other policemen from the Political Security Division of the Fuyuan Police Department. Three days later, Mr. Cheng died due to the brutal torture he experienced at their hands. The police tightly guarded the hospital mortuary, and did not allow Cheng Xueshan's family members to see or pick up his body.

According to one doctor who works in the hospital, Cheng Xueshan was already dead when carried into the hospital.

Cheng Xueshan was once illegally detained for more than 6 months in Jiamusi Labor Camp. In winter 2002, because of the lengthy torture he endured, he could not eat and he would vomit whenever he ate anything. The police claimed that Mr. Cheng was on a hunger strike, so they deprived him of sleep and put him in a reinforced room. Both his hands were handcuffed and attached to the ground. He was then forced to sit for a whole week on the cold concrete ground. As a result, both his hands became numb. He could not take care of himself and his entire body was swollen. According to witnesses, the Jiamusi Labor Camp almost tortured Cheng Xueshan to death.

Since the persecution of Falun Dafa began on July 20, 1999, the Fuyuan County Police Department Political Security Division Director, Zhang Sidong, and other policemen have persecuted Falun Dafa practitioners in many ways. Their brutal and illegal methods have included forcing practitioners' workplaces to guarantee they will not practice, implicating family members, charging illegal fines or ransoms, enticing and threatening, and luring with financial interest. In addition, they have tapped practitioners' telephones, subjected them to video-surveillance (according to the police, there were 16 bugged phone lines and 5 monitors for video-recording), monitoring traffic, putting practitioners' photos on the internet, confiscating family members' property, illegal detention and torture, and illegal sentencing to labor camps.

Zhang Sidong has illegally arrested about 100 practitioners both in the local area and other regions. He has also sent nearly 30 practitioners to labor camps, and forced many practitioners to become homeless as they try to avoid arrest and harassment. Since October 2004, Zhang has illegally ransacked more than 10 practitioners' home and has abducted 5 practitioners.

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Chen Naifa from Xiapu County, Fujian Province was tortured to death by force-feeding through an opening cut into his throat while he was in prison.

Mr. Chen Naifa, in his 40's, was formerly a traffic policeman. Because he practiced Falun Dafa, he was sentenced to 18 months of forced labor in May 2001, and then his sentence was extended three months for his refusal to accept brainwashing. He was not allowed to go back to work and had to live under close surveillance.

Mr. Chen escaped from the monitoring system later, but was forced to become homeless in order to avoid being arrested at his home. He did not have any money for living expenses and consequently lived a very hard life. Mr. Chen was arrested again when he was in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, and this time he was sentenced to two years in prison. When he had been in the prison for 16 months, his wife accepted brainwashing in Fuzhou City Prison of Fujian Province. She wrote to him to try to get him to accept the brainwashing too. Mr. Chen did not waiver in his belief. In order to protest the persecution, he went on a hunger strike without water, facing torturous force-feedings.

To force-feed him, the police brutally cut a hole in his throat. Mr. Chen's physical condition was already not good because of the tortures he had endured over a long period of time, and he died under such inhuman mistreatment around April or May of 2004.

In order to conceal their crime, the policemen fabricated a suicide scene. They tied a rope around Mr. Chen's neck and then told his younger siblings that he committed suicide. When his younger brother tried to take a photo of the body, the police would not allow him to do it. They paid the family forty thousand yuan and would not allow them to tell anyone about their brother's death.

Mr. Chen's wife has since been released and sent home. She has returned to work. Their daughter is a student in Xiapu County First Middle School. Under continuing pressure and threats from the police, nobody in the family dared to talk of Chen Naifa's tragic death. We only learned the truth of it in March 2005.

(Clearwisdom.net) On June 4, 2003, my son Yao Yaoyuan sadly left this world. I felt great sorrow upon his death. Only because of his saying one sentence, "I want to go out to find a job," he suffered brainwashing for 10 months, was sentenced to one year in a forced labor camp and was finally persecuted to death.

In July 1989, my son entered the University of National Defense Science and Technology with high honors. He thus joined the army. He was assigned to study in the Department of System Engineering and Applied Mathematics. He graduated in July 1993 with a B.S degree. He was assigned to teach in the military academy of Wuhan. He won first place in the teaching contest. He published eight papers in the military forces publications. He took up the task of a research project, "The bank of the simulation mathematics questions." My son completed the assignment successfully and received the third class awards. His military rank was Captain. Yao Yaoyuan was a talented person with a very bright future ahead of him.

In 1998, Yaoyuan started practicing Falun Gong because of his poor health. After the persecution of Falun Gong started in 1999, he was on his way to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. However, he was intercepted and put in a forced brainwashing facility for more than two months. His work unit terminated his party membership, dismissed him from the military roll, and dismissed him from his job. They sent him back to his hometown, but nobody in our family got any processing documents.

After he came back home on September 25, 2000, Yaoyuan stayed at home all the time, never leaving the gate of Huxing Village. The officers from the Niumasi Government and the local police station visited my home several times. He was always at home. On February 21, 2001, the police officers asked him on purpose, "What is your plan for the future?" He said, "I want to go out to find a job." Because of these words, the leaders of the town and the police officers from the local station thought he would leave to go appeal in Beijing again. The next day, about 5 or 6 people came to our house. They forced Yaoyuan to go with them. I argued with them. I asked, "He was dismissed and sent back to his hometown three times. Wasn't that punishment enough? Because he is a Falun Gong practitioner, you insist on putting him in jail?

One of the policemen, in his 50's or 60's, shouted loudly, "He is a Falun Gong practitioner, so the government wants to arrest him and punish him!"

Another policeman said, "Whoever practices Falun Gong needs to 'study.'"

Yao Yaoyuan was sent to the forced brainwashing facility in Shaoyang City that very day. First he was in the Party School with another thirteen or fourteen practitioners. Then he was transferred to the Shaoyang City Forced Labor Camp.

After two or three months, my son started coughing continuously, had a lot of phlegm, and lost a lot of weight. We asked the authorities to check his health, but they refused.

I thought of paying money to get Yao Yaoyuan released on bail for medical treatment. I first talked to Ye Xiangming, the head of the local police station. I asked him to agree to sign the release for medical treatment. He said, "I am only in charge of making an arrest. I will not sign this agreement."

After that, I applied to the town government. Zhou Ping, the Party committee secretary of the town at that time, did not agree to sign either. I tried many avenues, but I got nowhere.

After 5 or 6 months, except for one or two practitioners who were released because they were "transformed", the other practitioners in Shaoyang City were returned by their work units. There were only four practitioners from Shaodong and one from Xinshao left in the labor camp.

On November 13, 2001, officials from the town asked me to bring 20,000 yuan as a deposit to get my son back. I immediately went to the Shaoyang City Forced Labor Camp. The practitioners had all undergone a hunger strike for six consecutive days to protest the persecution. They had all become very skinny and were coughing continuously. They were short of breath and on the verge of death.

On the second day, I put the money together and went to the town government. They said that Xiao, Director of Shuangqing District Police Department in Shaoyang City, would not agree to release my son. When I arrived at the City Forced Labor Camp, my son had already been sent to the detention center. They said he was detained because of practicing Falun Gong in public and "disturbing the social order." I handed a written request to the Shuangqing District Police Department asking for his release on bail for medical treatment. But I did not get any response.

I spent 50 yuan to visit Yaoyuan once. After 15 days, I got a phone call from Zhu Xueming the director of the 610 Office in Shaodong County, asking me to bring 325 yuan for my son's living expenses in jail.

I saw that Yaoyuan's health was getting worse and worse, and he was coughing and spitting continuously. I sent another request to ask for his release on bail for medical treatment. At that time, Li Qiling, the officer of the 610 Office said, "Even with your town and the county's agreement, we will release him."

After the governor of the town received my request, he said he would contact the 610 Office.

I went directly to Zhu Xueming at the 610 Office in Shaodong County. He said, "Your son is too stubborn. We arranged for him to be released last."

After that, Mr. Wang, the Mayor of the town, and Shen Desheng talked to Zhu Xueming. From their meeting, I learned that, "Comrade Zhu did not have any opinion against it. Only Liu Sheqing, the Secretary of the County Discipline Inspection Commission did not agree." I therefore intended to talk to Liu Sheqing, but I heard that Shen Xiongwei, the deputy secretary of the County Discipline Inspection Commission, was the one in charge of the 610 Office in the county. After several tries, I found him. I sent him an application for my son's release on medical bail and he looked at it. He felt sympathy and told me that he would give me an answer in a week. After a week, he gave me his answer saying, "There is a disagreement from the upper level." I said, "There doesn't have to be any disagreement from the upper level. The 610 Office in Shaoyang City should release my son with the agreement of the county and the town."

Later, I found out it was Wang Ruobo, the Party Secretary of the county, who did not agree to my son's release. There was no way to get my son released on bail for medical treatment. Because of this, again and again my son lost precious time that he needed for treatment.

What was heartbreaking was the fact that without any trial, without giving his family any written judgment, while he was seriously ill, my son was wrongfully charged with "disturbing the social order," and was sentenced to one year of forced labor.

At the beginning of February 2002, Yaoyuan was transferred to the Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp in Changsha City, Hunan Province. With such a sick and disabled body, I did not know how he managed to live through a whole year of prison life.

In June, my entire family went to the labor camp to visit Yaoyuan. His complexion was as yellow as wax and he was skinny like a piece of firewood. His white clothes had turned yellow. He was weary from illness. We could only cry with dry eyes. Later, we heard that in October he began coughing up blood in his prison cell, but he was not given any medical treatment. They just let him be sick.

After enduring a year of labor camp with great difficulty, Yao Yaoyuan was released on January 30, 2003 when his term finally ended. He coughed and spat in the car several times and it was clear that his health was in very poor condition. On the eighth day back home, Yaoyuan coughed up a large amount of blood. We hurriedly sent him to the People's Hospital in Shaodong County for emergency rescue with infusions and oxygen therapy. The CT scan and X-rays showed that his lung had several big holes in it and he had an infection in his trachea. The doctor's diagnosis was Secondary Pulmonary Tuberculosis. Six days later, he coughed out a huge amount of blood again. That left his body severely lacking blood. He was given a transfusion of 400 cc of blood immediately. He was also injected with several bottles of protein. Yaoyuan was hospitalized for a month, which cost 10,000 yuan. When his condition was getting slightly better, with the permission of the doctor, he went home and took the medicine we bought for treatment.

During the time he was treated at home, a person was sent from the town to monitor him [to make sure he did not practice Falun Gong]. They paid Muo Zhihua from our village 100 yuan per month and asked her to come to my home once every three days.

On the night of May 20, 2003, Yaoyuan spit up a huge amount of blood again. The blood was all over the quilt, pillow, blanket and the mosquito net. He lost consciousness. He was sent to the Central Hospital of Shaoyang City for emergency rescue. The medical expense was 500 yuan each day, but his condition did not get any better. He spit up a lot of blood again at 9 o'clock on June 4, 2003. Although he was helped immediately, Yaoyuan passed away because he had lost too much blood. This time the medical expense was over 5,000 yuan.

Who on earth has given me such a big tribulation? My family has been torn to pieces. My family is broken and my son is dead. The happy life I dreamed of having in my old age has been destroyed.

I thought, "If the officers from the local police station and the town government had not so foolishly assumed, based on their mere guesses, that "going out to find a job" was "appealing" and "establishing contacts," then the result would not have been that my son was subjected to brainwashing for 10 months and sentenced to one year in a forced labor camp. Then his illness would not have led to his death.

If it were not for Wang Ruobo, the Party Secretary of Shaodong County, depriving my son of his right to be released on medical bail, then the precious time he needed for treatment would not have been delayed and it would not have caused this unrecoverable tragedy.

My wife and I are nearing our seventies. I have a serious coronary disease. Losing my son in my old age leaves me in deep sorrow. How can we suffer this in our old age!

(Clearwisdom.net) On December 27, 2000, I unfurled a banner with the words, "Falun Dafa is Good" at the gate in Tiananmen Square and called out, "Falun Dafa is good" and "Restore Master Li Hongzhi's reputation!" Immediately, the police charged towards me, grabbed me by my neck, and put me in a place full of detained Dafa practitioners.

We recited Dafa articles together. The police slapped, beat, and kicked us. Soon, we were divided up and sent to detention centers in different areas. I was sent to the detention center at the Haidian District Sub-station. Because I refused to tell them my name, the prison guard directed the cell leader to drag me outside, and force me to take off all of my clothes. Two thugs then pushed me against the wall while the cell leader used me as a punching bag to unleash his fury. They then forced me to hold my head with my hands and squat down. Two prisoners took turns pouring water on me from head to toe. They poured over a dozen basins of water on me. It was colder than ten degrees below zero at the time. The chill penetrated to the bones and made me shiver uncontrollably. From time to time, they pushed my head into a basin of water to suffocate me. They tortured me until I told them my name. Icicles formed in my hair, and the ground around my feet froze. It took me a long time to put my clothes back on.

Later, they put me in another cell where Mr. Wen Weilong, a Dafa practitioner from Shaanxi Province, was detained. Because Mr. Wen was on hunger strike to protest the lies and slander on TV, the police beat him until his buttocks were covered with blood and stuck to his pants. The police then tortured him with the "sitting board" (1) torture. The agony of this is unimaginable. The cell leader verbally abused him constantly and kept slapping his face and stepping on his bare toes with his hard-soled shoes. At night, two people were ordered to watch over Mr. Wen, and deprive him of sleep. In the severe winter, Mr. Wen had 30 basins of cold water poured on him, yet he was unperturbed and cheerfully recited from Master Li's poem,

Dafa disciples, thousands and millions,
Completing Gong and achieving Consummation at high places.

The guards didn't allow us to talk. One month later, I was illegally sentenced to forced labor.

For the Dafa practitioners who just arrived at the dispatching place, dozens of guards would, with electric batons in hand, force practitioners to write a guarantee statement, promising not to practice Falun Gong. Two prisoners would also be assigned to monitor and shadow one Dafa practitioner. Practitioners were often forced to write their "understandings" about Falun Gong, to write statements denouncing Falun Gong, and watch fabricated news reports and videos that slandered Dafa. Besides the meaningless persecution through forced "military drills," the police also forced us to work at wrapping chopsticks in the morning and evening, work from which they profited.

After over 20 days, I was dispatched to the notorious Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp. Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp's facade was quite deceiving. It was roomy, bright, clean, decorated with TVs and fish bowls, and the quilts were folded neatly. Laughter could be heard inside and out, and when asked, all the detainees said that they had practiced Falun Gong. The prison guards often asked if I was comfortable, and there was always someone who helped bring me food, and tidied up my clothing, bedding, and other belongings. But they often came to "chitchat" with me. Actually, they intended to "transform" me. They tried to find out what my omissions were. Every day they surrounded and isolated me. As time went on, they became less and less caring, I was allowed less and less sleep, and the torment increased.

No matter how the outside people investigated, they could not see the true situation of the persecution.

The collaborators on the one hand tricked me into believing that they were still practitioners, and on the other hand they spread their evil understandings and deviated notions while carrying on as thugs. During the day, they took turns "chatting" with me, accompanied by beating and kicking, and tortures in the form of forcing me to drink cold water, standing against the wall in the "riding an airplane" (2) posture, deprivation of toilet privileges, etc. In the evening, they pushed practitioners who refused to give up the practice under the bed for a whole night. If practitioners still refused to write pledges denouncing Falun Gong, cold water would poured over them. The means used became increasingly brutal. I was even pushed onto the ground and had the "ribs rolled" (a brutal torture method).

Under the intense mental and physical pressure, I wrote, against my will, words that were disrespectful to Master Li and Dafa. Later, under the influence of drugs (both stimulant and depressants, and possibly something else), due to my own attachments, and the traitors' brainwashing, I broke down and became confused. During the ensuing days, I was sometimes lucid and sometimes muddle-headed, but most of the time I was muddle-headed. In my foggy state, they often slapped me, poured cold water on me, forced me to do the military squat, and did not allow me to use the toilet, among other tortures and humiliation. In the end I suffered mental trauma.

I was then transferred to the No. 6 Team, where I lost my memory for five days (this was what I read in their notebook). When I became a bit clearheaded, they forced me to take drugs again. The more drugs I was given, the more headaches and discomfort I experienced. My head felt like it had a ton of bricks on it. I could not raise my head, my nose ran, my mouth watered profusely, and my speech was slurred. I could not fold my quilt, put on my clothes, brush my teeth, wash my face, or even hold a spoon. In short, I could not take care of myself. I could not concentrate, and I had no memory to speak of. I was frustrated and agitated, and so uncomfortable all over that I yelled constantly. They said I was too noisy and interfered with their rest, so during the day, they tied me to the headboard and stuffed a pair of dirty socks in my mouth. They didn't allow me to use the toilet so I was forced to soil my pants. In the evening, they made a lot of noise, tied my hands and feet together, and put me in an empty room on the ceramic tile floor for an entire evening, not caring if I lived or died. On one occasion I drank some hot water and was burned internally. I broke out in a sweat. Even so, they still forced me to watch the slanderous videos, continued undergoing brainwashing, and forced me to write statements giving up and defaming Dafa.

Later, I vaguely realized that my mental state was not normal, so I asked to go to hospital for treatment. I went to Anding Hospital in Beijing, and the hospital's finding was that I suffered from psychosis. Before the assessment, the hospital needed to stop my medications for a few days. After the drugs were stopped, my symptoms all disappeared except for slight residual thought disorder. After the assessment, the guards forced me to take the drugs again, and the symptoms reappeared. This showed that my abnormal mental state was drug induced.

The guards then put me in the No. 7 Team's guarded chamber. At that time, I was like a corpse ¡V my mind didn't work at all. But the guards still ordered the prisoners to make me recite the prison regulations, and often administered corporal punishment. One night prisoners pushed a handful of drugs into my mouth. Not long after, I seemed to be levitating, and "bang," my head bumped against a sitting board and bounced off just like a rubber ball. I didn't feel any pain at all. The prisoners were so afraid that they opened the door of the guarded chamber in a hurry, and pushed me into the bed. On the second day, two prisoners carried me to the toilet. My urine was very dark and I almost died at the time (this was what a prisoner told me when I was released). After that, they didn't force me to take any more drugs. Gradually I got better, but in the evening, I often cried, laughed, and didn't want to go to sleep, but I have no recollection of this. After the hospital's assessment of psychosis was issued, the forced labor camp asked my family to come and take me home. In order to cover up the evil deeds of the labor camp, they let me out for recreation and to recuperate near the end of my imprisonment. Once when I cursed Zhou Yongkang, the prisoners used a boiling water bottle container to burn me as punishment. When I cursed Jiang Zemin, team leader Liu locked me up in the guarded chamber again.

During my detention in the guarded chamber, they often tied me onto the iron gate or a bed with a belt, and used a bunch of steel needles to pierce my body. They also used electric batons to shock me. Over one month after I was released, numerous puncture wound scars could still be seen on my body.

During my entire period in the forced labor camp, the most pronounced memory I have was the physical torture. In addition to the lies and deceit, and the forcible brainwashing that practitioners endured, the food we were provided consisted of spoiled turnips, spoiled vegetable soup and buns. When my senses were clouded, they induced me to drink dirty water from the spittoon, to drink urine and eat feces, and they deceived me and forced me to write materials defaming Dafa, and to write a statement giving up the practice. Four days after I was taken out of the forced labor camp for treatment, my symptoms all disappeared without treatment. I resolutely do not acknowledge what I have done in the detention center, and solemnly declare any statements made are null and void.

The above is what I can remember and what other people have told me about the torture I have been put through. Because of my cloudy mental state at the time, I cannot remember many things, not even the name of the team captain. Under such a state, I was also being used as a tool to transform other practitioners. I hereby sincerely apologize to those Dafa practitioners who were harmed by my actions.

I am only one of the millions of Dafa practitioners that have been persecuted. I am fortunate in that I am still alive. All over China, there are still many who are being secretly persecuted even more severely that I was, and even tortured to death. The torture and deaths are frequently covered up by the authorities. I believe that in the not-too-distant future all of these injustices will be redressed.

(1) Sitting board torture - Every day, practitioners are forced to put their hands on top of their laps, with backs straight and sit on benches 18 hours per day. This sometimes continues for over fifty days. The authorities even limit practitioners' restroom use time. Because of the long time spent sitting on hard benches, practitioners' buttocks develop big sores that hurt badly. Practitioners cannot even urinate normally because of the pain. Because some labor camp conditions are very damp, and guards do not allow practitioners to have ventilation or the chance to get some sunlight, and since practitioners are locked up for so long, countless red scabies sometimes grow on the entire body of the practitioner. They are incomparably itchy and painful.

(2) Riding an airplane torture ¡V The practitioner is forced to bend down until he cannot go down any further, while the hands are pulled up and held up to the highest point, perpendicular with the floor.

(Clearwisdom.net) The Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province has persecuted thousands of practitioners, closely following Jiang Zemin's evil criminal group since the persecution against Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999.

The following are accounts of the persecution of several Falun Gong practitioners. Although these represent just a small amount of the countless persecution cases, they bear witness to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp's monstrous crimes.

Ms. Li Hongshu, a practitioner from Panjin City, Liaoning Province, was illegally sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2002. She remains in the Liaoning Women's Prison. At the end of 1999, Ms. Li, about 30 years old, was detained in the First Group of the Second Women's Detention Center of the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. During that time, to protest the persecution, she refused to go out for calisthenics and insisted on practicing the Falun Gong exercise. She was therefore taken away, and the police guards stripped off her warm cotton-padded jacket and trousers. It was deep into winter and Ms. Li only had on one set of underclothes, but the guards bound her legs with rope, forced her to sit on the cold cement, and shocked the soles of her feet with electric batons. [See reenactment photographs, below.]

Ms. Zou Guirong, a practitioner from Xinbin County, Fushun City, Liaoning Province, was persecuted to death. The following is an account given in her own words before her death: "In August 2000, at age 34, I was detained in the second group of the Second Women's Detention Center, where, incited by the director of the detention center, six or seven criminal inmates physically punished me with brutal beatings behind closed doors. The people involved included Su Jing, the leader of the group, Wang Naimin, Zhang Xiurong, and the leader of the subdivision of that group, Qiu Ping. In the detention center dormitory, the criminals hung me upside down from the upper bunks for a long time. When I couldn't endure the pain any more, I fell down and was promptly beaten with broom handles by inmates or guards. [In the following photo, the person re-enacting Ms. Zhou is wearing the red sportswear assigned to practitioners in the forced labor camp.] This type of torture forced the victim to prop both legs firmly against the upper deck of a bunk bed and to straighten the waist, abdomen and chest with great effort, with her head facing downwards. The victim had to endure excruciating pain, so much so that she was often covered in sweat. Besides this torture, inmates and guards also forced me to half-squat for extended periods of time. If I couldn't remain absolutely still, I would be beaten." [See picture below.]

Ms. Jiang Jie, over 30 years old, a practitioner from Fushun City, Liaoning Province, was detained in the second group of the Second Women's Detention Center during the summer of 2001. She was often beaten black and blue by criminal inmates, who were urged on by Shao Li, the vice-director, Lu, the director, and Dai Yuhong, the leader of a subdivision of that group. Even under these conditions, during the day Ms. Jiang was still forced to do heavy physical labor. At night, she was deprived of sleep and taken to the bathrooms to be beaten by the people listed above. Once in the bathroom, the criminal inmates joined in the beatings. They also straightened out her body and then stood on her shoulders, crushing her body below them. This brutal torture resulted in Ms. Jiang being so badly injured that she couldn't walk by herself. [Even the reenactment below cannot fully show the cruelty of this abuse.]

Ms. Zhao Shuhuan, 46 years old and a practitioner from the Shenhe District of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, was detained in the first group of the Second Women's Detention Center in May 2001. Wang Xiaofeng, the leader of the first group, and others ordered criminal inmates to severely pinch the inside of her thighs with their fingernails. The abuse turned her legs black and blue, and the bruises can be clearly seen even today. One day in the bathroom, four or five inmates seized her by her hair and bashed her head against a white ceramic tiled wall with such force that the ceramic tiles split. [See photo below.] Afterwards, she said that her head was buzzing, and she didn't know where she was. Ms. Zhao now lives in Taiwan.

Practitioner Ms. Cao from the Huanggu District of Shenyang City, is now dead. When she was 65 years old, the police guards handcuffed her to the radiator in the hallway. She was handcuffed at a level where she could neither stand nor squat. After being forced to stay there for long periods of time, the guards still shocked her with electric batons. When they tired of shocking her, they ordered inmates to continue the torture. [See photo below.] At the end of 2002 and 2003, several practitioners who firmly believed in Falun Dafa were handcuffed by the guards this way to radiators in the hallways or confined in "small cells" (1), enduring extreme pain.

(1) "Small Cells" ¡V The detainee is locked up in a very small cell individually. The guards handcuff practitioners in a fixed position, in which the practitioners can neither move nor lie down. The small cell is very damp and no sunshine comes in. Detainees have to urinate and defecate in the cell. Only half of a regular meal is served to detainees locked up in a small cell. During the night, rats are running around. The stench in the small cell is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.

Respected Teacher Li,

I am a former detention center guard. In the eyes of those officers who acted against their conscience, I was quite foolish. But I knew that as a human being, one has to uphold one's conscience and sense of justice.

Since I exposed the persecution details of Falun Gong students sent to our detention center, the officers involved were scared. Later, the authorities investigated this incident and held me responsible. I was not able to withstand the pressure and wrote a so-called "self-examination" statement, which contained words disrespectful of Falun Dafa. Now I solemnly declare null and void the entire content of that statement.

Although I have been transferred away from the detention center, I have no regrets. As a human being, I should act accordingly. Finally, I would like to send my greetings as well as my highest regards to Teacher Li!

Mr. Zhang Guanghong has been sentenced to four years of forced labor at the Xinsheng Farm in Yingkou City, Liaoning Province. Nine inmates have been assigned to "transform" him. In order to force him to give up his belief in Falun Dafa, they have used torture methods such as the Tiger Bench (1), electric shocks applied by multiple electric batons, sleep deprivation, and other brutal tortures. After 96 hours of continuous abuse, Mr. Zhang's diabetes, which had been cured when he started practicing Falun Dafa, resurfaced. He has since been diagnosed with complications of diabetes. He has numbness in all four limbs, has not been able to walk steadily, and has had infections in his fingertips. Mr. Zhang has also become mentally confused and his life is in immediate danger.

Mr. An Biaosen has been on a hunger strike since his arrest on January 24, 2005. Mr. An is being held at the Longfeng Detention Center in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. It has been reported that he was handcuffed and shackled, even during the Spring Festival season. He is extremely weak as a result of ongoing abuse.

Since January 2, 2005, the Nancha police in Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province have arrested Ms. Li Guizhi of the Fertilizer Factory, and seven other practitioners.

At 11:00 a.m. on February 4, 2005, officers from the local police station arrested Ms. Zhang Shuhua of Shixian at her home at Zhangxian. They confiscated two Falun Dafa books, a DVD player and some DVDs. On February 5, Ms. Zhang was transferred to Tumen City. When her husband Mr. Zhang Qingjun went to Tumen City to demand her release, he was also arrested.

Mr. Chen Hu, 35, was working in Oushui Town in Yongjia County, Zhejiang Province. On the afternoon of January 7, 2005, members of the 610 Office arrested him at work.

At 8:00 a.m. on December 29, 2004, Wang Yuquan, an officer from the Xugezhuang Police Station led three other officers to break into Li Shengyun's home in Dongtai in the Fengnan area. The officers ransacked the place but did not find anything. They then broke into Mr. Dong Qiang's home and did not find anything there either. On December 30, Wang led other officers to Ms. Wang Junfeng's home at Manzituo. They broke in but did not find anything to confiscate. At 2:00 p.m. on January 6, 2005, three or four officers again made their way into Ms. Wang's home and forcibly took her to the Fengnan Detention Center.

Recently, Ms. Zhang Xiujuan, Ms. Zhang Zhihong, Ms. Yang Yuting and other practitioners went to the Caozhuangzi Brainwashing Center to send forth righteous thoughts. They were followed on their way there by police and subsequently arrested. These practitioners are being held at the Dongli Detention Center in the Hedong District of Tianjin. Ms. Zhang Xiujuan has been on a hunger strike for several days to protest the unlawful arrest and persecution. In addition, Mr. Li Yuanyong is being held at a facility in a northern suburb of Beichen District, where he is being tortured by force-feeding.

(Clearwisdom.net) A "solemn declaration" is a person's public statement declaring to the world that whatever he or she has done or said under duress or deception that was against Falun Dafa is null and void. Most of these statements have come from Falun Dafa practitioners in China who wished to express regret that, in the face of physical torture and brainwashing, they had signed documents renouncing Dafa and guaranteeing not to practice again. Also, as more and more people in China learn the truth about how they have been deceived and lied to by the Jiang regime, many non-practitioners are also submitting "solemn declarations."
