CHICAGO: Attorneys for Falun Gong practitioners filed an appeal Monday in the U.S. Supreme Court in a civil lawsuit against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin. He is charged with torture, crimes against humanity, and genocide in connection with the persecution of Falun Gong he initiated in July 1999. This case raises fundamental legal issues in U.S. law and in the relationship of U.S. law to international law.
Jiang Sued in Chicago
Jiang Zemin was served with this lawsuit, through his bodyguards, on October 22, 2002, during a visit to Chicago. At the time, Jiang was China's paramount leader, serving simultaneously as the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, the President of the government of China, and the head of China's armed forces. Jiang was succeeded by Hu Jintao as President on March 15, 2003, making Jiang a former head of state.
Neither Jiang Zemin nor any counsel for him has appeared in court to answer the Falun Gong practitioners' suit. In proceedings before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the U.S. Department of Justice in the guise of a friend of the court requested the dismissal of this case, arguing that heads of state and former heads of state are immune from prosecution.
In September 2003 the District Court dismissed the suit, and the plaintiffs appealed to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago. That court heard oral arguments in May 2004, and then upheld the District Court's dismissal of the case in a decision in September 2004.
Jus Cogens Violations Have a Special Status
The Falun Gong practitioners are asking the Supreme Court to return the case to the District Court in which it began and to ask the District Court to rule on the defendant's responsibility for the acts he is alleged to have perpetrated against Falun Gong.
At issue in the appeal is whether former heads of state such as Jiang Zemin are entitled to claim head-of-state immunity, the protection offered by international law to heads of state against suits brought against them. The brief argues that whether former heads of state are entitled to immunity in some instances, they are not entitled to immunity for actions that are beyond their official authority (ultra vires) or that violate jus cogens standards of international law.
The key argument regards the status of the crimes Jiang is charged with. According to U.S. legal precedents and international law, torture, crimes against humanity and genocide are regarded as violations of jus cogens norms. Such norms are considered to be the foundation for the most basic rules of law, and for civilization itself. Violation of these norms is therefore thought to be qualitatively different than other kinds of criminal conduct.
The Falun Gong brief cites many Circuit Court decisions from other than the 7th Circuit in Chicago that have denied immunity to former heads of state and former officials for such violations. One case cited describes violations of jus cogens as different by virtue of the "depths of depravity the conduct encompasses, the often countless toll of human suffering the misdeeds inflict upon their victims, and the consequential disruption of the domestic and international order they produce." The underlying justification for revoking immunity for officials who violate jus cogens norms of international law is that a sovereign state cannot defend these acts as official, legitimate functions of the state.
According to the Falun Gong brief, "the Seventh Circuit's decision stands alone among the circuits in holding that acts of torture and other jus cogens violations of a former head of state or foreign official can be considered protected and immune acts. The decision is unprecedented. Left undisturbed it will undermine the legislative intent of important congressional legislation."
Sometime in the next few months the Supreme Court will decide whether to hear this case.
(Clearwisodm.net) On February 6, 2005, several Falun Dafa practitioners in Germany received automated, pre-recorded calls in Chinese or English defaming Falun Dafa as a suicide group, referring to the staged self-immolation incident in Tiananmen Square, even though it has been shown that this incident was staged by the Chinese government. Four Western and Chinese practitioners, who live in different cities in Germany, confirmed that they received such calls.
In January 2001, the Chinese government staged the shocking Tiananmen self-immolation incident. Soon thereafter, experts from outside China and Falun Dafa practitioners discovered from slow motion analysis of the video broadcast by CCTV that this incident was staged. Chinese VCDs revealing the truth about this incident were distributed widely in China. In Germany, both Chinese and German residents discovered that Jiang Zemin and his regime murdered people to slander Falun Gong through watching the VCD or German version videotapes. Many German politicians and media outlets have also received these materials.
Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Florian in Hamburg told a Minghui reporter that he received four English and Chinese recordings on his phone between 11 a.m. and noon on February 6. He hung up the phone when he understood the content of the English messages. He thinks that the Tiananmen self-immolation incident was a staged performance to deceive people. It did fool many people at the beginning, but because Falun Dafa practitioners have actively clarified the truth, people will not be so easily fooled in the future. He believes that these recorded phone messages are an indication that the Chinese government is "playing its last card." He plans to notify the German police and collect any more phone calls as further evidence of harassment.
Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Zhang from Southern Germany also received four message calls on his cell phone between noon and 2 p.m. on the same day. There was no caller ID. He could tell that the English voice on the recording had a Chinese accent. Mr. Zhang pointed out that these acts are ridiculous and irrational, and that these calls show that the truth has become clearer to the world today. These calls are harassment calls, in an attempt to spread hatred on German soil. This is similar in nature to the slander case that was played out through the Canadian Chinese media, in which Vice Chinese Counsel Pan Xinchun in Toronto was found guilty of defamation. Mr. Zhang plans to notify the German police.
It was reported that on February 6-7, many Falun Dafa practitioners in the United States, Canada, and at least ten other European countries received such harassment calls. Practitioners in Finland received more than 200 calls over the course of several hours. Practitioners are collecting evidence and will be prepared to contact federal or local legal agencies to investigate the source behind these incidents.
One Falun Dafa practitioner in German expressed, "This recorded call incident is another example of how the CCP is clumsily hurting its own image. History is just, and all who are involved in persecution Falun Gong will be held responsible."
(Clearwisdom.net) My name is Li Yishi and I am 59 years old. In 1990 I was diagnosed with diabetes; my blood sugar level was 24.7. I received treatment from Fuzhou City's Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital for almost four years but saw no positive results. The doctors said that there was no cure for my condition, and I was dying.
Our whole family was overcome by this most anguishing news. One day in September 1994, I passed by a Falun Gong practice site near my home. Two practitioners there introduced me to Falun Gong. They told me why one should be a good person and told of the health benefits from practicing Falun Gong. I liked what I heard, telling myself I was about to die anyway and might as well give it a try. The first time I practiced, an electric current passed through my whole body. Merely two to three days later I felt that all my energy meridians had opened up. I was greatly inspired. After enduring a long-term illness, I never felt better in my entire life.
Two weeks later I was fortunate enough to attend Master Li Hongzhi's last lecture in Guangzhou. The lecture opened my heart and made me realize that Falun Gong is such a profound science. Falun Gong purifies people's minds and bodies and upgrades people's moral standards. I made up my mind during the lecture - I will tell everyone about this great practice and help everyone benefit. After returning home, I worked together with other practitioners to organize many seminars to promote Falun Gong. The total number of practitioners in my area increased day by day, from a handful at the beginning to over 30,000 before July 20, 1999.
I was persecuted in China
On April 25, 1999, Tianjin police officers beat up and arrested some practitioners; they also slandered Falun Gong directly. Some practitioners spontaneously came to Beijing to visit the central government and tell them what happened. Some other practitioners decided to hold a rally in Zuohai Park in Fuzhou City to support those who went to Beijing. We informed the police in advance. That day more than 10,000 practitioners showed up. We practiced the exercises as a group and told the people about what happened in Tianjin. From that day on, the local police kept harassing Falun Gong practitioners by inciting practitioners from other Qigong practices and the park management staff to give us a hard time. We avoided having conflicts with them by following our principles of "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance." Whenever we moved our practice site to a new location, some other group would follow and try to create more conflict.
Shortly before July 20 in 1999, the Taijiang police criminal team leaders and some other police officers came to our practice site, the Cultural Hall. They threw me, Zhang Aimin and seven or eight other practitioners into a police van. The van drove to the suburbs and stopped near Fuzhou University. They dumped us onto a patch of bare ground and said, "This is just a warning; if you insist on practicing Falun Gong, we won't be so easy on you next time." The walk home that day was over 15 kilometers.
The police officers' words of "won't be so easy" reminded me of my uncle Li Lianju, who was the deputy governor for Fujian Province. Because he used to serve as governor under the Nationalist Party, during the Cultural Revolution he was labeled a traitor and beaten to death. His body was wrapped in a straw mat and dumped on the street.
After July 20, 1999, the police searched all of the practitioners' homes. Their purpose was to take our books away and force everyone to write a promise to stop practicing. I told myself that Falun Dafa has given me my second life, and I can't do anything against my own conscience. I did not give them my books, nor did I write down any promises. The building I lived in then was being demolished and I was moving, so the police could not locate me. One day a friend showed me a letter that the police sent to my employer. The police said that I had become a key suspect on their blacklist and demanded that I come to answer some questions, and otherwise I would face severe consequences. To avoid arrest, my wife and I went into hiding. My family members told us not to come back home. They also told us that many fellow practitioners were arrested and sent to forced brainwashing or forced labor camps. We didn't want to be treated the same way. On July 23, 2000, we came to Australia to stay with our son's family.
Peaceful appeal; passport extension denied
After arriving in Australia, we remained diligent in our practice and cultivation. We participated in many activities to promote Falun Gong and to appeal for an end to the persecution. The harsh persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China forced us to take action: appealing at the Chinese embassy and consulate, holding press conferences, organizing anti-torture exhibitions and launching lawsuits against Jiang Zemin.
At first, our son was opposed to our Falun Gong practice. He planned to do business in China and feared that he might not be able to return to China if his parents were practicing Falun Gong. We invited him to participate in all the activities we attended, thinking that he should know what kind of people we Falun Gong practitioners are.
One day in March 2001, his boss asked him to rent a truck and transport bricks from the brick factory. The driver for the job had just left for home and the job was very urgent. Without any experience for the job, he rented a 1.5-ton payload truck and came to the brick factory. After loading 6 tons of bricks he was on his way back. The weather was rainy and windy. As he was making a right turn, the truck suddenly turned over. My son was too panicked to do anything, but at that very moment he saw a big, rotating Falun in front. The truck fell slowly to the side. All three people in the truck escaped without injury. Later, the police arrived. After reviewing the accident site, they said that it is a miracle that none of them suffered any injury. According to the police, a truck with a 1.5-ton payload, loaded with 6 ton of bricks would no doubt flip, and the weather didn't help either. The people involved could have very well died. After my son came home, he said that he had to believe in Falun Gong after that experience. He finally accepted our advice on "one person practices, the whole family benefits." Since that accident he became very supportive of our practice. Whenever we have activities, he does his best to be our driver.

Several years have passed. Our passports were to expire on August 22, 2004. On the morning of August 16 we arrived at the Chinese consulate, accompanied by our son. An official there checked our passports and said, "You are applying for refugee status, and you come to our consulate every Sunday to appeal." He then denied my wife's and my applications.
Practicing Falun Gong and being a Chinese citizen are our fundamental rights, and no one should be able to take them away. Because of the persecution from Jiang Zemin's regime, we were forced to apply for refugee status. We appeal to the Chinese Consulate in Sydney: don't help the evildoers and don't commit more crimes; what you did was very wrong!
(Clearwisdom.net)On the afternoon of February 4, 2005, Latvian Falun Gong practitioners gathered at the Chinese Embassy to appeal for an immediate end to the inhumane persecution happening to Falun Gong practitioners in China. Between 200,000 and 1 million have been illegally sent to forced labor camps without trials, and human rights workers have documented over 38,000 specific cases of torture or severe abuse.
Practitioners held banners in English reading, "Falun Gong Teaches Truth, Compassion, Tolerance", "Torture is used on Falun Gong Practitioners in China" and a banner in Latvian reading "Stop the Killing in China". At the same time they told passers-by how Jiang Zemin and the Chinese Communist Party are responsible for at least 1343 deaths of Falun Gong practitioners through police abuse and torture, with government sources inside China indicating that the actual number could be has high as 7,000 or more.

Ever since July 2004, Dafa practitioners have been displaying information boards at this tourist spot at least three days a week. Many people in the world have been influenced by the lies that former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin and his communist regime have spread about Falun Gong in attempts to justify the persecution to the Chinese people and hide from the outside world the campaign of genocide against the peaceful Qigong practice. The Chinese people have been deceived the most due to the fact that newspapers, television programs and radio broadcasts in China are controlled by the Communist Party. The regime has gone to incredible lengths in its efforts to carry out Jiang's orders to "eliminate Falun Gong," such as the staged self-immolation on Tiananmen Square, in which the government arranged several people to set themselves on fire and claim that they were Falun Gong practitioners, a claim that has been refuted by independent analysts all over the world including the United Nations affiliated NGO International Education Development. While some of the Chinese tourists approached practitioners to take a leaflet and find out more, others were scared and kept their distance, simply staring at the banners reading, "Falun Dafa is Good" and "Righteousness Will Prevail and Bring Jiang to Justice".
One day while we were promoting Falun Dafa and raising awareness about the persecution, a lady asked for some extra leaflets. She introduced herself as a staff member from the Secretariat Office of the President. She came to collect more leaflets after she received a letter from a Falun Gong practitioner.
On January 16, 2005, we were unable to hang the banners and posters on the stone pillars as usual. Instead, we used three wooden poles. Since we had only three practitioners at that time, each of us had to hold a pole in one hand and distribute leaflets with the other. After realizing that the practitioners were unable to approach them, many people who passed by came over to take the leaflets and express their appreciation. Our sincere determination to do what we should despite the difficulties moved people and we could feel the gratitude and respect in their voices. In spite of the constraints on our movements that day, the number of flyers distributed was no less than usual.

(Clearwisdom.net) On January 29, 2004, Falun Gong practitioners from St. Petersburg went to Nevsky Metro Station to promote Falun Gong and raise awareness about the gross human rights violations happening to their fellow practitioners in China. Many people received leaflets from the practitioners and looked at the display boards carefully. After learning the facts about Falun Gong and that it is being wrongly persecuted, they took the initiative to sign a petition calling for an immediate end to the persecution.

Truth clarification photos and banners
A gentleman, whom we met before when we held a similar activity at a Buddhist temple, came to our booth. This gentleman was the Abbot of the temple and told us about his extraordinary experiences. Several years ago he suffered from a serious joint illness and found that medical treatment did not help. He went to live alone in a forest, where he discovered a treatment on his own and learned how to grow crops. Through strong willpower and perseverance, he recovered from his illness and returned to St. Petersburg three years later. Recently, his illness recurred. Today he came to the place where we held these activities and seriously told us, "All of this is not accidental. It is destiny that allowed me to know about Falun Gong and brought me here. I really need to think it over seriously!"

Clarifying the facts
Falun Gong practitioners used to get together in downtown, but in the past half years, they have been going to communities where there are many residents to clarify the truth, so that more people can learn about Falun Gong and the persecution happening in China.

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Liu Yujie, 65, was a resident at the Forestry Bureau of Wumahe, Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province. In 1994, Ms. Liu attended the 9-session Falun Gong lectures taught by Teacher Li. After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, she went to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested and detained for over 20 days. The persecutors also ransacked her home and extorted money from her multiple times. In June 2000, the perpetrators arrested and detained Ms. Liu again. Her family members expended much effort to have her released. After her release, the persecutors still threatened and harassed her, which affected her physical and mental health. Ms. Liu Yujie died on January 5, 2001.
Mr. Liu Chenglin was a 64 year old retired official. Before his retirement, he was a judge of Wumahe District Court, Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province. Mr. Liu began to practice Falun Gong in 1997. Within a short time, all of his diseases disappeared without his having to take any medication. Because he spoke out on behalf of Falun Dafa, the persecutors abducted him and ransacked his home on January 22, 2000. He was put under detention and suffered cruel mental torture. This upright judge was deeply hurt both mentally and physically. He passed away in mid-March 2000.
Ms. Wang Zhongxin was a 55-year-old retired worker and a resident of Yingchun, Hulin City, Heilongjiang Province. Between the year 2000 and 2003, the persecutors ransacked her home, harassed her, and took her many times to brainwashing centers to persecute her. The persecution seriously hurt Ms. Wang's body and mind. She passed away on October 8, 2003.
Ms. Lin Shiying was 70 years old. She was a resident in Yingchun, Hulin City, Heilongjiang Province. Ms. Lin refused to give up her belief under the brutal persecution of Jiang's regime. She died on October 30, 2003.
(Clearwisdom.net) In 2002, I was sent to the Heilongjiang Provincial Drug Rehabilitation Forced Labor Camp. Deputy division head Wang Limei, guard He Qiuhong, guard Wang Bing (age 27-28), and guard Wang Dan were on duty the day I arrived. They gave me a pen and a piece of paper, and ordered me to write a Repentance Statement and a letter that attacks Dafa. I refused firmly.
They started torturing me in an effort to destroy my will. The guards ordered inmates Zhang Shuling and Ma Yufang to beat me. They yanked off my cotton-padded pants, and pinched and pulled at my inner thighs until the skin was gone. Blood and fluid seeped from my thighs. Then they started pinching my thighs until small pieces of flesh came off. They pinched me everywhere on my body. My sweatpants stuck to my thighs as the blood soaked through. The perpetrators also slapped my face and kicked me.
Due to torture and pressure, I did something a Dafa practitioner should never do, and
I cannot describe the anguish I felt afterwards. I thought about it a lot and decided that I must do well. I started to recite Dafa lectures on a daily basis, and I recited Master's articles "True Cultivation," "Fa-Rectification Period Dafa Disciples," "Position," "Stability," "The Disciples' Magnificence," among others. I repeatedly recited these articles and looked inward to find my shortcomings. I filled my mind with Dafa and strengthened my righteous thoughts. I am not afraid of falling, because I will pick myself up.
During the one year detention I felt Master's benevolent protection. With determination I publicly announced, "All of my previous words and actions that do not conform to Dafa's standards are completely void. I will make up the loss I caused Dafa with solid actions."
After I made this announcement, division head Li Quanming and deputy division head Liu, Zhujie (age 36-37), forced me to stand continuously for two days. Because I copied Dafa scriptures, I was forced to stand for 12 days, during which time I was deprived of sleep. Li Quanming and Liu Zhujie ordered others to handcuff me to a railing on the upper bed-bunk, with my feet hanging in the air. They moved me twelve times, whenever someone came to inspect the guards at night. During the inspections the guards hid me in a warehouse, and when the inspector left, they handcuffed me in the division head's office or the office in the front. At one time they put me in a room and ordered someone to monitor me. I was forced to stand until my legs and feet swelled, and I lost feeling in my toes.
During that time a Dafa practitioner in his early 60s was forced to squat for over one month. One time the guards interrogated me and ordered me to sign a document that dictates an extension of my sentence. I refused to sign it, and Li Quanming ordered Dong Shaoxin (in his 30s), Wang Dan, He Qiuhong, and Yu Miao to torture me. Dong Shaoxin twisted my arms and put them behind me. He told He Qiuhong to get the inked stamp pad, and Wang Dan tried to get my fingerprint on the document. I said, "Which law of China allows you to force people to sign their names this way? Being administrators of the law, you are violating the law yourselves!"
I could not eat or drink, and political head Zhang Li said to the guards that I was going to hold a hunger strike to avoid working. He said I was faking illness. Li Quanming ordered the guards to handcuff me to a metal chair for a whole day. I kindly explained to them that I really could not eat, and that I was throwing up anything that I put in my mouth. They refused to listen and force-fed me. Political head Ning also supported the force-feeding. Guards Dong Shaoxin, Liu Zhujie, Jiang Zhou, Deng Yuelu, and others mixed together a concentrated saline solution, unknown drugs, and milk powder. Five or six guards force-fed me. Some pinched my nose shut, some held my head, and some pried open my mouth with a metal spoon while I was locked to a metal chair. They used a syringe with a large, thick needle and tubing to force-feed me.
One time the drug could not enter my vein as my wrist and arm swelled up like a balloon. I pulled out the needle. They sent me to the Judicial Bureau Hospital for a few days, where they continued to torture me by giving me drugs. I vomited and had difficulty urinating, but the symptoms disappeared when they weren't giving me the drug. I explained my condition to the head of the Judicial Bureau, but he still ordered the abuse to continue. I didn't cooperate with them and repeatedly pulled out the needle.
They cuffed my hands and feet to a bed and continued to subject me to the drug abuse. They demanded to know my family's address and phone number, but I refused to give it to them. They contacted the local 610 Office and told my family to visit me. During this period they sent me to the No. 2 Hospital in Harbin City, where they subjected me to additional drug abuse. I was by then vomiting a great deal, my abdomen swelled up, and I could not urinate. I talked to the doctor and the hospital's Party secretary, letting them know that I am a Dafa practitioner and I should not be given any drugs. They ignored me. After about 40 days my family came to visit me. The authorities extorted approximately 6,000 yuan from my family, even though I told my family that I didn't acknowledge the persecution because it was forced upon me.
After I returned home I was completely incontinent, and my whole body was numb, including my gums, tongue, and lips. Even now, only my arms, hands, legs and feet have some feelings restored, but my limbs are still not very limber.
Other Dafa practitioners have also been persecuted to differing extents. Practitioner Liu Tongling (in her 50s) from Daqing City died from torture. She was sent to the Drug Rehabilitation Forced Labor Camp on September 12, 2003, and she died on the evening of October 12. It was learned that Liu Tongling was never allowed to use the toilet facilities after she arrived at the labor camp, and the guards forbade her to wash herself. Two inmates, Liu Yan and Liu Yali, both in their 30s, were assigned to monitor her. The night before Liu Tongling died, she said she wanted to use the toilet, but this was not allowed, and she lost control of her bowels and bladder. Guard He Qiuhong slapped Liu Tongling's face until it turned black and blue, and she also hit other parts of Ms Liu body. Liu Yali and Liu Yan witnessed the violence. On the night of her passing, Li Quanming, Liu Zhujie, Li Zhihong (a man in his 30s), and Deng Yuelu (also in his 30s), were on duty. They discovered Liu Tongling's body around midnight. Liu Yali reported the death, and Li Quanming went to the gym where Liu Tongling was being held. He looked at the body and said she was still alive. He then ordered Liu Yali and Liu Yan to put clothes on the body. The two inmates refused to follow orders this time, and Liu Yali said, "She's dead! I'm so young, why should I dress a corpse? It's bad luck. I won't do it." Li Quanming promised to reduce both inmates' sentences by one month, and finally got them to dress Liu Tongling's body. They hastily sent her to a hospital. Liu Yali and Liu Yan didn't receive the promised sentence reductions, and they went to confront Li Quanming. Chen was the head of the labor camp at the time, and is listed as a perpetrator of the persecution on the Minghui website. The current head of the labor camp is Zhang Ping, who is around 40 years of age and very aggressive in carrying out the persecution.
(Clearwidom.net) After I was abducted and illegally detained at the Anshan Forced Labor Camp, many other Dafa practitioners and I were continuously persecuted both physically and mentally. Prison guards Zhang Zhenyang, Zhang Yongli, and others brutally persecuted the Dafa disciples who persisted in following the principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" and who upheld basic human rights and advocated for justice. They used many underhanded methods to persecute practitioners, depriving them of such basic human rights as food, drink, used of a restroom, and sleep.
Prison guard Zhang Zhenyang once said to us, "All the torture methods we use on you have been approved by the Party and the government."
The director of the prison, Xu Baoyu, challenged us, "Which one of you wants human rights?" Dafa disciple Li Peisheng stood up and said, "I want human rights." The prison guards later beat Li for 20 minutes.
Another Dafa disciple, Ma Jiangyuan, was once beaten so badly by the brigade leader that his eardrum was perforated. Over ten other practitioners were also beaten and sworn at during this time.
On the morning of May 8, 2001, prison guards Xu Baoyu, Zhang Zhenyang, and Zhang Yongli directly ordered and permitted prisoners to beat up practitioners. Several dozen prisoners swarmed and dragged Dafa disciples to an office, and started beating them. Afterwards, they cuffed the practitioners' hands behind their backs. The entire male "Falun Gong brigade" was filled with the sounds of beatings and screaming. This commotion disturbed the entire forced labor camp. Practitioners were beaten so severely that they sustained serious injuries, including internal bleeding, facial disfigurement, and so on. The prison guards then sent the practitioners to various other brigades to further monitor and "transform" them. The "transformation" includes sitting on small benches. The small benches were made under the direct order of prison guard Zhang Zhenyang. The bench is around 10cm long, 3cm wide, and 10 cm high. Practitioners were forced to sit for 16-17 hours per day, while the beatings and verbal abuse continued. You could hear Dafa disciples' being beaten up everyday. The atmosphere in the forced labor camp was filled with terror.
Xu Baoyu and Zhang Zhenyang said ferociously during a meeting, "We are just beating up you guys, so what? Beating you is just a light punishment. If you don't transform, you are doomed to get killed." The brigade leader, Sun Yude, said, "There are no human rights in China. What human rights are you talking about? We are specifically persecuting you guys. You can't do anything about it. There is no reason. No reason is needed." The prison guards often ordered prisoners to persecute practitioners.
Not long after that, they started holding mandatory brainwashing sessions for persistent Dafa disciples. They tied practitioners to beds, so that they could not move. Practitioners were also not allowed to use the bathroom or sleep. Prison guards covered practitioners' heads with safety helmets in the hot summer of 2001. The second brigade of the forced labor camp beat up and injured many practitioners. The leader is Mr. Wang. Once practitioners fall asleep, they would punch and hit the safety helmets with sticks. The strikes created strong vibrations affecting the practitioners' heads and ears. They also used cymbals to make loud noises to hurt practitioners' eardrums and handcuffed practitioners to a heater so that they could not stand up nor sit down for the whole night. There are many more persecution methods used. The above-mentioned are only the tip of the iceberg of the persecution that occurs in Anshan City Forced Labor Camp, Liaoning Province.

Facts of the Persecution
Changchun City Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Mao Zengshun was an employee of Yangge Mineral Incorporation, Ltd. in Changchun City, Jilin Province. He was once a unit director. On February 18, 2000, when he was doing the Falun Gong exercises near his home, the police from the Rongguang Police Station (belonging to the Erdao Police Department in Changchun City) arrested him and detained him in the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp. Mr. Mao was detained there for 7 months. When he fainted due to extreme fatigue, the labor camp officials had no choice but to release him. On October 28, 2001, the police arrested Mr. Mao again, and sentenced him to three years in the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp. On October 27, 2004, Mr. Mao was released. He then went to the Labor Committee in Changchun City requesting to resume his employment. On the afternoon of January 13, 2005, the Labor Committee had a hearing. During the break, Mr. Mao went home to get some evidence but the police from the "610 Office" in the Erdao District arrested him again. He was then sent to the 610 Office brainwashing center in Changchun City.

Wen Xiaohui, female, about 45 years of age, is a staff member of the Tangwanghe District 610 Office. Her office phone number is 86-458-3536107. Wen Xiaohui brutally tortured Dafa practitioner Ms. Chen Guiqin, and sent her to a labor camp. Ms. Chen's physical health quickly deteriorated and she died on January 6, 2004.
Jiang Wei, about 40 years of age, was the former deputy director of the Tangwanghe Police Department. Jiang is now deputy director of the Tangwanghe Court. After July 20, 1999, Jiang was transferred from the Tangwanghe Court and made Deputy Director of the Police Department. He was in charge of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Jiang defamed Falun Dafa and its founder. He also actively participated in searching practitioners' homes, confiscating their personal property and arresting and torturing them. Jiang has extorted tens of thousands of yuan from practitioners. In December 2000, Dafa practitioner Mr. Li Yunhua went to Beijing to appeal. After the local police arrested him and brought him back, Jiang brutally beat him, leaving his chest totally black and blue. Jiang also threatened to throw him down from the mountains under the cover of darkness.

Zhang often arrested and detained practitioners and sent them to labor camps. He also required that all practitioners had to obtain approval before traveling, and that they pay some money as collateral. He detained and extorted money from at least 30 Dafa practitioners in the Tangwanghe District. He extorted tens of thousands of yuan from them. He sent fourteen Dafa practitioners to labor camps. Among them, two were sent to labor camps twice, and one was tortured to death. Many Dafa practitioners went to him to clarify the truth with compassion, but he never listened, and he even sent those practitioners to the labor camp.

Cui closely watched and monitored Dafa practitioners, harassed them with phone calls and visits to their homes, illegally searched and confiscated their personal property, and arrested them. He did these things every day and worked very hard at it. Practitioners clarified truth to him, but he refused to listen. As a result, Dafa practitioner Mr. Chen Guiqin's family was severely persecuted. Mr. Chen's home was searched many times, and many practitioners were arrested and illegally detained. Four were sent to labor camps, two were detained for four months, and Mr. Chen was tortured to death.

In December 2000, Shao was appointed Director of the Political Division of the Tangwanghe Police Department. From the day he took the position, he has been brutally persecuting Dafa practitioners. Many times, he participated in searching practitioners' homes, arresting them, extorting money from them, and torturing them by beating them severely. He was very active in fabricating evidence so as to send practitioners to labor camps. He also often went to practitioner's homes for no reason just to harass them. Under his orders, fourteen Dafa practitioners in the Tangwanghe District were sent to the labor camp. Among them, two were sent to the labor camp twice and one was tortured to death.

Zhang is very active in persecuting Dafa practitioners. Many times, he ransacked practitioners' homes, arrested them, extorted money from them, and beat them. He was directly responsible for the Henan Police Station's persecution of more than 20 practitioners. In July 2000, Dafa practitioner Ms. Chen Guihua went to her hometown to visit her mother in the Jinshantun District of Yichun City. Zhang sent policemen to arrest her and take her back to the Tangwanghe District that same night. Zhang forced Ms. Chen to pay 500 yuan as a "transportation fee." He threatened to send her to the detention center if she did not pay. Ms. Chen resisted. Together with policemen Li Yunfeng and Liu Deshun, Zhang forced her to sit in an "iron chair." Ms. Chen absolutely refused. While torturing her, they badly hurt her arms. Ms. Chen was not released until her family members paid the 500 yuan. Zhang sent more than 10 practitioners to the labor camp. Among them, one was sent to the labor camp twice, and was forced to leave home after his release in order to avoid recapture and further torture; one was tortured to death.
7) Ding Ruqiang is more than 40 years old and is the director of Hebei Police Station in the Tang Wanghe District. The phone number for the police station is 86-458-3531313.
Many times, Ding participated in searching practitioners' homes, ransacking their homes, confiscating their personal property, and arresting them. Ding also threatened and swore at Dafa practitioners, as well as tricking practitioners' family members into turning in Dafa books.
8) Yang Xuejian is more than 40 years old and is a policeman working in the Political Security Division of the Tangwanghe Police Department. He actively participated in persecuting Dafa practitioners. Many times, he went to practitioners' homes to harass, monitor, threaten, and arrest them, and to ransack their homes and confiscate their personal property. He stayed at the Tangwanghe Railway Station for long periods of time to monitor whether practitioners were traveling to other cities. In December 1999, Yang Xuejian and Jing Xiangguang went to Beijing to pick up practitioners Chen Guiqin and Guo Yuexia, who went there to appeal to the government. On the way back, they extorted 2,000 yuan from the two practitioners and kept the money for themselves. In December 2000, Dafa practitioner Mr. Zhu Youqi went to Beijing to appeal. When the local police brought him back, Yang madly beat him. In May 2000, at the railway station he found practitioner Mr. He Chunyuan traveling out of the city. He followed Mr. He onto the train and searched his bag in public.
9) Li Gang, about 35 years old, is a policeman in the Criminal Division of the Police Department. On July 20, 1999, Li Gang was a policeman working at the Henan Police Station in the Tangwanghe District. He actively persecuted Dafa practitioners, often illegally searched practitioner's homes and arrested and interrogated them. Dafa practitioners went to him to clarify the truth with compassion, and handed him truth-clarification materials, but he did not listen. He often went to practitioners' homes to search them. He was very thorough, and was quite disappointed when nothing related to Dafa was found. In the area he was in charge of, four Dafa practitioners were detained, sent to labor camps, and had their homes searched many times. Among them, Dafa practitioner Ms. Guo Yuexia was sent to the labor camp twice and was forced to leave home after her release in order to avoid recapture and continued persecution. Dafa practitioners Sun Jiadong and Zhou Jingqiu, husband and wife, were each sent to labor camps for 3 years. Their 13 or 14-year-old child was left at home unattended. As there was nobody to care of him, he was sent to his aunt, who lived far away.
10) Li Yunfeng, about 35 years old, is the deputy director of the Hebei Police Station in the Tangwanghe District. The police station phone number is 86-458-3531313. After July 20, 1999, as a policeman in Henan Police Station, Li Yunfeng often participated in searching, arresting, and interrogating Dafa practitioners.
Li Jianmin, about 40 years old, is a policeman at the Hebei Police Station in the Tangwanghe District. His cell phone number is 86-13845853771. The police station phone number is 86- 458-3531313.
In 2004, he was transferred to the Hebei Police Station, and was very active in persecuting Dafa practitioners. He often went to Dafa practitioner Ms. Zheng Yuqin's home to harass her, peeping into her house through the gate, hoping to find something. On November 21, 2004, he went to Ms. Zheng's home and found a Dafa book on the bed. He immediately arrested her and brought her to the Hebei Police Station. He then deceived her family members, saying that if they turned in all of their Dafa books, everything would be fine and Ms. Zheng would be released. The family believed him and tuned in all their Dafa books. The Hebei Police Station videotaped them as they turned in their books. That afternoon, Ms. Zheng was sent to the Tangwanghe Detention Center and was detained there. After several days, she was sent to the labor camp for two years. This was the second time she was sent to a labor camp. Ms. Zheng was then sent to the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Center. The center refused to accept her, so she was taken back.
Yang Wenliang, about 50 years old, is a former Director of the Tangwanghe District Police Department, and is now Director of the Tieli City Police Department. His office phone is 86-458-2283200; zip code is 152500.
After July 20, 1999, Yang actively persecuted Dafa practitioners. As a result, Dafa practitioners in the Tangwanghe District were subjected to severe persecution. He sent them to labor camps, detained them for long periods of time, arrested them, and demanded that they obtain approval and pay money prior to any travel outside of town. Together with the District Political Judicial Committee and the "610 Office," he launched a system that severely violated practitioners' human rights. Whenever a practitioner needed to travel out of town, depending on the distance and length of time, the money demanded ranged from 1,000 to 5,000 yuan. Seven different units had to approve the request. In addition, he assigned many guards to watch the railway station, the bus station, and the major roads. If a practitioner was found to be traveling without approval, and without having paid enough, he or she would be arrested, detained, and have money extorted from them. Many practitioners were forced to follow these procedures and pay the demanded money. Because of him, more than 20 practitioners in the Tangwanghe District were detained and had money extorted from them. There were also nearly 10 practitioners who were sent to labor camps. One was sent to the labor camp and was tortured to death.

Many times, Yuan participated in arresting practitioners, illegally searching their homes and confiscating their property. Three days before the 2000 Spring Festival, leading more than ten police officers, Yuan Guofeng and Jiang Wei broke into Dafa practitioner Chen Guiqin's home and arrested all the practitioners there, and ransacked the house. Of the six practitioners in Chen's home, four were illegally detained for 15 days, and two were illegally detained for one day and one night, as well as forced to pay 5,000 yuan.
In December 2000, 10 practitioners in the Tangwanghe District went to Beijing to appeal to the government. Yuan led some policemen to stop them and bring them back. He beat many practitioners very badly and handcuffed a female practitioner to the detention center gate for one day and one night.
Liu Guoqing, about 50 years old, is the head of Tangwanghe District, as well as the director of Tangwanghe Forestry Bureau. His office phone number is 86-458-3532866; His home phone number is 86-458-3532958.
Liu persecuted Falun Gong practitioners, making practitioners in the Tangwanghe District suffer tremendously. Nearly 30 practitioners in Tangwanghe District were detained or had money extorted from them. He extorted tens of thousands of yuan from them; six practitioners were illegally detained as long as 4 months; 14 were illegally sent to the labor camps. Among them, two were sent to labor camps twice and one was persecuted to death.
In March 2004, Dafa banners appeared in front of Liu Guoqing's door. He requested that the police department investigate, but the police department could not find out who did it. Liu then made up a story saying Dafa practitioner Liu Shiguang did it. Even though he had no evidence, he sent Liu Shiguang to the labor camp for one and a half years.
3. The police arrested Laixi City Radio & Television Bureau employee Zhang Weishan again
The police arrested Laixi City Radio & Television Bureau employee Mr. Zhang Weishan at his workplace in Laixi City at 9 a.m. on January 10, 2005. His whereabouts are not currently known. Since Jiang's regime started persecuting Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Laixi City Radio & Television Bureau officials and the Laixi City police colluded with each other to persecute Mr. Zhang. They put him in a mental hospital a total of 8 different times for further persecution. Once he was detained there for as long as 4 months.
(Clearwisdom.Net) On January 20, 2005, the Chinese official newspapers and TV stations published and broadcasted New China News Agency's visit with the participants who self-immolated in Tiananmen Square on January 23, 2001. Here, we can see how false and misleading the content of this interview is. If the "self-immolation" were not a total fabrication, why was Liu Chunling, who was on fire and could have been rescued, struck on the head by a heavy object and killed by the police? Also, 12-year-old Liu Siying, the daughter of Liu Chunling and the least-burned participant--she was given a tracheotomy, but she could still sing for the media. How could the authorities suddenly announce shortly after the interview that Liu Siying "suddenly died" after assuring the public that she was doing well?
These days, many commentaries are being published on Clearwisdom.net regarding a new round of lies about the self-immolation promoted by the Chinese authorities. Some articles have pointed out the false logic emanating from the New China News Agency and Chinese Central TV that just stresses repeatedly: "Falun Gong can be accused of teaching people to set themselves on fire since all the self-immolation participants called themselves Falun Gong practitioners."
Rather than spending more time refuting this faulty logic, let's look at Xue Hongjun, who was referred to as a "self-immolation plotter" by the Chinese Communist Party and who claimed "to be a practitioner for many years."
In the report from the New China News Agency on January 23, 2005, Xue Hongjun was referred to as a "senior student."
This reporter has obtained some information from Henan Province:
* Ten years ago, Xue Hongjun was dismissed from Longting Hospital in Kaifeng City, Henan Province. Later on he practiced medicine illegally.
* The New China News Agency reported that Xue Hongjun "started to practice Falun Gong in 1994." According to a reliable local source, it was known that before the persecution started on July 20,1999, Xue Hongjun "had been swindling other Falun Gong practitioners." Posing as a Falun Gong practitioner, he took money and other items from Falun Gong practitioners using the excuse of "having difficulty making a living." In this manner, he swindled another practitioner out of an auto-tricycle worth 3000 yuan.
* It was reported that Xue Hongjun indulged in smoking and gambling. In the summer, Xue Hongjun wandered about, and was a typical local thug.
Here it should be explained that smoking is a very sensitive issue for any genuine cultivator.
Zhuan Falun is the main book of Falun Gong's teachings. Every Falun Gong practitioner reads this book repeatedly. In this book, Teacher Li Hongzhi explains clearly why practitioners should not smoke: "As a practitioner, what's your goal? Shouldn't you quit it? Therefore, I have said that if you want to practice cultivation, you should quit smoking. It harms your body and is a desire as well. That is just the opposite of the requirements for our practitioners."
A genuine practitioner would follow Teacher's instructions exactly, and wouldn't smoke or gamble. Xue Hongjun indulged in both smoking and gambling, which do not fulfill the basic requirement for a cultivator. Can such a person claim to be a Falun Gong practitioner? When he could not even follow the basic requirements of Falun Gong, how could it be said that his "self-immolation plotting" had anything to do with the instructions of Falun Gong?
* Another source inside China gave a Clearwisdom reporter more information. Xue Hongjun claimed "to be a practitioner for many years" after being a "self-immolation plotter." He entrusted someone to take messages to his family and to bring cigarettes to him. The Falun Gong practitioners detained in the detention center told him many times, "Now that you claim to practice Falun Gong, why don't you follow the requirements of Falun Gong and be a genuine Falun Gong practitioner?" However, Xue Hongjun said that he was "special." Subsequently, the genuine practitioners gradually saw through his deception and broke off contact with him.
The above source thought that Xue Hongjun was being made use of by the Jiang regime again and again repeatedly because he, being a person with bad intentions, was exactly the type of person needed to do the work of the Communist Party.
In addition, among the videos broadcast by Chinese Central TV, there were three different persons playing the role of "Wang Jindong." According to the initial investigation of Clearwisdom.net, Wang Juan, the daughter of "Wang Jindong" from Henan Province, was detained in Zhengzhou Women's Forced Labor Camp after the Tiananmen Square Self-immolation, and later on was selected to speak at the UN Human Rights Convention in Geneva to slander Falun Gong. Afterwards, Wang Juan was selected to work in a kindergarten in Kaifeng City as a reward for "having performed well," and it was reported she was also given an apartment.
Many people from the local area in Henan Province testified that during her detention in Zhengzhou Women's Forced Labor Camp, Wang Juan and her mother often abused the Falun Gong practitioners detained there. After being released, Wang Juan and her mother continued to work for the "610 Office" in their efforts to force the local practitioners to give up practicing Falun Gong.

On January 23, 2001, on the eve of the Chinese New Year, the self-immolation was staged in Tiananmen Square. The participants had various backgrounds. Except for those who died tragically that day, they are all being controlled by the government, so no independent third-party investigations have been allowed, nor have they been permitted to be interviewed by Clearwisdom reporters. No matter when the real director of this farce is exposed completely, the author can state that neither the New China News Agency or any of the self-immolation participants can show any evidence to verify their accusations against Falun Gong. This is because the self-immolation was contrived by Jiang Zemin and Luo Gan in order to advance the persecution of Falun Gong.

Doctors at the city hospital had adhered to conventional treatment of flu and pneumonia; however, his illness got worse day by day. On August 17, my husband and I took him to the Wuhan City Children's Hospital for a series of tests. They concluded on September 15 that our child was suffering from a form of meningitis. Cases like his were rarely seen in China, and the prognosis was extremely poor. The medical costs could run as high as hundreds of thousands of yuan. Upon hearing this, our entire family was shocked beyond description.
Holding onto our last hope, my husband and I took our son to Beijing by train. We arrived at the Beijing Children's Hospital.
Throughout the eighty-eight days of treatment there, our son lost consciousness for days at a time, first on September 11 and again on October 20. The doctors had no choice but to operate on him, yet his condition continued to deteriorate. At the end, the director of that section persuaded us to take him back home. We returned home in despair on November 26. We could not sit back and let him suffer, so we took him to another hospital for treatment just to alleviate the pain as much as possible. One week later, our son pulled out the PIU tube implanted in his body. He could not take injections anymore and had to leave the hospital. Having no other recourse, we took him back to my mother's home.
My mother is a Falun Gong practitioner. She firmly believes in "Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance" and has been practicing Falun Gong for eight years. She suggested that I practice Falun Dafa with my son. So I started playing Falun Dafa tape cassettes and reading Zhuan Falun to him every day. One week later, a miracle happened. He gradually regained a clear mind, and he started to talk and take in liquid food. He has been getting better as every day passes. He has tried to get out of bed and begun to walk.
As the Chinese New Year's Day approaches, please allow me to express my appreciation and say "thank you" to Teacher Li Hongzhi from the bottom of my heart. Let me thank Teacher, who has brought Falun Dafa to people around the world.
(Clearwisdom.net) My name is Wu Huilin. I am a professor at a university, engaged in economics research. I began practicing Falun Gong during the Spring Festival of 1998. I came with a pursuit, my motive being to cure illnesses.
At that time, Falun Dafa had just been introduced in Taiwan and was not yet being persecuted by Jiang Zemin and the Chinese Communist Party. There were very few practitioners in Taiwan then. People who heard of Dafa were curious about it. At the time, the main group of practitioners was from the Department of Economics of Taiwan University. It was mostly a group of economists and other highly educated people.
During that time, I often made media appearances, wrote newspaper articles, and joined and hosted TV programs. The media was very interested in those who participated in the practice of Falun Gong. I was well known and the media considered me as one of the people to focus on. They often asked me to do interviews. However, I rejected those interviews due to my attachment of fear.
Then on July 20, 1999, Jiang and his followers in the Chinese Communist Party started their fierce persecution of Falun Gong. Suddenly, Falun Gong became famous worldwide. It was the hottest news at the time. Several practitioners, including me, began to face the media. However, I was timid, afraid of showing my face publicly and I chose my words carefully. I did not read newspapers or watch TV, for fear of my mind being "polluted" by all the false propaganda and slander. This timid behavior was not in accordance with Dafa's teaching. This mindset did not change until I bravely stepped forward, and participated in group Fa study and experience sharing with my fellow practitioners.
After group study and practicing the exercises together, I gradually enlightened to Teacher's teachings on the subject of Fa study: that is, we must read the Dafa teachings without any attachment to pursuit of knowledge. Through reading the Fa repeatedly, sharing experiences and practicing the exercises, I gained a much deeper understanding of Dafa's teachings. These deeper insights came about not only from Fa study, but also from my cultivation, including facing conflicts, failings and mistakes during the course of my everyday life. On the path of cultivation, my understanding developed from the perceptual to the rational and concrete. After I realized the goodness of Dafa, I introduced Falun Dafa to my friends and family members. Meanwhile, I understood the difficulties and barriers faced by ordinary people when learning the Fa.
Personal experience showed that I was not diligent enough in my Fa study. When I introduced Dafa to people, they were not very moved. However, I felt that I should not be depressed about it. Every difficulty offers the opportunity to examine oneself. We must examine ourselves according to the Fa and find out our shortcomings. Therefore, I had a new understanding about this part of Teacher's article, "For a cultivator, all the frustrations he comes across among everyday people are trials, and all the compliments he receives are tests." ("A Cultivator is Naturally Part of It"- Essentials for Further Advancement) What matters is the thought at the moment. One thought differentiates humans and gods.
I also gained an understanding of the difference between a human and a god in terms of "Forbearance" and "Compassion." Humans have attachments and their forbearance is often a forced forbearance. Even though one does not show one's emotions, one's heart may be bleeding. It is as Teacher says, "To endure completely without anger or grievance is the forbearance of a cultivator." ("What is Forbearance (Ren)?" - Essentials for Further Advancement) How to reach such a state? It is only possible through letting go of human feelings or attachments. When the "human feeling" is gone, we will reach the state of Compassion. To reach this state, we must truly cultivate vigorously and with diligence.
On the path of cultivating, I have come to understand that the goal of cultivation is to save sentient beings. This is a major difference between Dafa cultivation and other types of cultivation practices. To save sentient beings, we need to meet with everyday people, and live among them with a similar lifestyle. Therefore, we should not quit our jobs, but rather, we should do well at our work. I also realize that there is no fixed answer as to how we carry out our daily work in ordinary society. In other words, there is no "fixed" or "concrete" answer, but our own cultivation levels determine what we should do. Our cultivation levels truly reflect on our behavior in the everyday world.
After gaining this perspective, I conformed as much as possible to a normal lifestyle. I wrote the articles that I was supposed to write, watched the news and did my work without a fuss. Things were still the same on the surface, but the meanings had changed. I felt this in my heart. The vicissitudes of my emotions quieted down. I eventually let go of the attachment of loss and gain. Although all kinds of things continuously came and went, I was able to accept them with a calm mind. The pressures I felt before lessened without my being aware of the change. The attachment to "loss and gain" in the workplace was leaving me day by day. I realized that everything that happened was not coincidental; the work assigned to me was also not coincidental. There was no need to deliberately plan or schedule. What I needed to do was to do my best on the things at hand. The things that were meant for me would come to me.
There is one thing I need to emphasize. I still wrote articles; watched the news and went to movies, participated in professional conferences, and so on, but the extreme emotions were gone. My overbearing character was gone. I am now considerate of others. The things I merely talked about so often, I am now truly doing. In the past, I used to look at the negative side of things and people. Now I am able to see them in a positive way. I used to think that in the ordinary world, "specialists" were above others, and that they were supposed to get higher salaries. Now, I feel that a specialist with advanced knowledge should contribute to others, and help others learn. In the ordinary world, people fight for power and money. I used to be caught up in this also, but now I know that everything that happens offers a chance for self-examination and analysis. I must always learn from my lessons.
Fellow practitioners, in this final moment, let us follow Teacher's teachings and do the three things well. Let us be dignified and upright during this period of Fa-rectification. Thank you, Teacher! Thank you, all!

Through your truth-clarifying efforts and your exposing of the persecution against Falun Dafa practitioners by the evil, you have thwarted the persecution in China. Your contribution is a great encouragement to practitioners who have undergone five years of suppression. It has also awakened people to pay attention to and think over this persecution, while forcing the perpetrators to restrain themselves from fully carrying out its evil deeds. Some perpetrators have even given up on the persecution, which has resulted in an improved environment.
Recently, we have clearly noticed that people are awakening. On one occasion when I went to an organization to tell a friend about Falun Gong, one of my friend's colleagues interrupted to say that everything I had said was true. When they were touring Hong Kong, truth-clarifying materials were readily available on the streets. Although the tour guide did not let them pick up any brochures, some of the group took them anyway. While they were sightseeing, the tour guide asked them not to look at the exhibition board, but the guide could not prevent them from listening to the broadcast. This colleague remarked that Falun Gong practitioners were remarkable, and he asked me to take good care of myself.
A schoolteacher acquaintance at first did not understand us. In 2004 he took part in a tour organized by the school leaders. Upon his return he had changed completely. He told me, "It's all clear to me now. It's very clear to all of the teachers in the school. I truly believe in the integrity of Falun Gong practitioners, and I'm proud of having a friend such as you." His words moved me to tears. I feel that we have started to reap the rewards of our hard work. We can see a bright future ahead.
Fellow practitioners in Hong Kong and all other overseas areas, your hard work has had a significant impact on the improvement of the situation in China.
Falun Dafa practitioners around the world are one body. We do not have much time left, so let us be more diligent in doing the three things. Let us embrace the day when the Fa rectifies the human world with our actions.

(Clearwisdom.net) I am a person who once followed a wicked path and missed a lot of precious time that I could have spent with fellow practitioners eliminating evil. After I joined Fa-rectification again, practitioners told me the key posture and the formula for sending forth righteous thoughts. When I got home and started sending forth righteous thoughts, I immediately saw dark minions and rotten ghosts turning into many circles of dark air. I continued and they eventually disintegrated completely.
That night I heard a conversation between two evil beings in my dream. One said, "Let's go quickly, we can't stay in this place any longer!" The other said, "I already saw that this place will not be good any more and found a better place."
Several days later, when I was sending forth righteous thoughts with other practitioners and cleansing myself, there was a noise, as a bottle was dropped in front of me and broke into pieces. I knew that it was the evil trying to scare me. I used my righteous thoughts to get rid of it. When I put my palm straight in front of my chest, a dark hand approached my fellow practitioners. I sent forth my righteous thoughts quickly and that hand disappeared in a second. After changing my hands to the lotus palm in front of my chest, when I thought of the formula and focused on "Mie", some beings wearing the clothing of Buddhas, Daos and Gods became smaller and smaller and settled inside my palms. When I focused my power and thought "Mie" again, they immediately disintegrated and I felt a stream of cold water drip down my arm.
Once when it was time to send righteous thoughts, I sat and my mind started to curse people and it would not stop. I knew that these thoughts were not my own. I started to clear away all the evil that interfered with my sending forth righteous thoughts. Suddenly, a woman knelt down in front of me and said, "No cursing, no blaming any more, I am wrong!" But it was too late, and it disintegrated quickly.
Because of laziness, I did not pay serious attention to the midnight time for sending forth righteous thoughts. My laziness left opportunities for the evil beings. One night, I sat for a long time. When I opened my eyes, it was still not 12 a.m. yet. I continued sending righteous thoughts. Even though the second hand on the clock moved continuously, the minute hand did not move at all. Time seemed to be frozen. I sent forth righteous thoughts: "Eliminate all the evil dark minions and rotten ghosts who interfere with my sending righteous thoughts; I am a Dafa disciple of the Fa-rectification period, and even though I have shortcomings, the evil should not interfere with me. Master, please strengthen me. I need to use the time in this dimension." Shortly, everything returned to normal and the clock started to run as usual.
One morning at 6 a.m., I did not send forth righteous thoughts. At 6:10 a.m. Master's Law Body came. I saw that, half way in the air, Master was collecting homework, one after another. Some had a full page, others only a few lines. In contrast, I handed in a blank page.
After the battle between good and evil started in Beijing, fellow practitioners and I decided to go to Beijing on October 1 and send righteous thoughts close to the evil beings. My son, who doesn't cultivate, said to me suddenly, "Mom, I dreamed that you went to Beijing on a big spaceship. You were having a furious fight with monsters and finally you won."

On January 27, 2005, the police from the Political Security Department in Juancheng, Shandong Province went to a Dafa practitioner's house in Fenghuang Township. They found no one at home, and then climbed over the wall and forcibly broke into each room to search. They didn't find anyone, so they went to another village to search for Dafa practitioners. During this period, Mr. Li Xiuping was arrested and detained in the County Detention Center. This is the third time he has been arrested.

4. [Sichuan Province] Xu Hongyu Sentenced to Forced Labor for Three Years
Mr. Xu Hongyu, a businessman in Meishan City, Sichuan Province, was sentenced to three years in a labor camp and sent to Xinhua Forced Labor Camp in Mianyang City, Sichuan Province on January 18, 2005.
On November 18, 2004, Xu Hongyu was arrested and detained in Dongpo District Detention Center, where he suffered physical and mental torture. Xu Hongyu went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution and he became very weak. During his detention, Xu Hongyu's family members were not allowed to visit him until he was sent to the hospital. Since his family met with him at that time, there has not been any new information about Xu Hongyu.
Recently, it was reported that Xu Hongyu has been sentenced to a forced labor camp for 3 years by the Meishan city police department without informing his family.

5. [Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province] Pei Xiuying Abducted from Her Home by the Police
On January 26, 2005, a group of police broke into Ms. Pei Xiuying's home in Taiyuan City and abducted her. Her whereabouts are unknown.
6. [Hebei Province] Qinglong County Officials Persecute Wang Yanwen
Ms. Wang Yanwen is a resident of Anzigou village in Qinglong County, Hebei Province. On July 20, 1999, when the Jiang regime started the widespread persecution of Falun Gong, Wang Yanwen and other practitioners traveled many miles to the County Appeal Bureau to appeal for Falun Gong. When they were half way there, they were intercepted by Mutoucheng Township Government and Police Station authorities and detained in Mutoucheng Township Police Station for 24 hours. They were released after being fined 100 yuan each.
On September 9,1999, when Wang Yanwen and several people were studying the Fa outside, the police from Mutoucheng Police Station snatched away their Dafa books, and the 980 yuan inside Wang Yanwen's bag were stolen by Chen Xiaohu and a driver named Yang.
In November 2000, when Wang Yanwen went to Beijing to appeal, she was taken back by Mutoucheng Township 610 Office personnel and sent to Qinglong Detention Center. In the detention center she went on a hunger strike to protest her illegal detention. Later on Wang Yanwen's family was afraid and gave in to the pressure to pay 3000 yuan to the Mutoucheng Township Police Station in order to take back Wang Yanwen.
7. [Pingjiang County, Hunan Province] Jinchuan Township 610 Office Extort Money from Li Jiaosheng and Elderly Practitioners
On December 31, 2004, Zhua Guanxi, Li Zhanliang, Li Shuanglong, and others from the Jinchuan Township 610 Office broke into Dafa practitioners' homes to conduct a search without showing any documentation. They confiscated 5 tape players and forcibly took Mr. Li Jiaosheng, Mr. Li Jiangbei, Mr. Hu Gaifei and Mr. Zhou Fuyu to the 610 Office and extorted 1300 yuan from them.
8. [Hebei Province] Police from Chengde City Arrest and Extort Money from Zheng Qinling
At around 2:00 p.m. on November 3, 2004, Ms. Zheng Qinling, from Chengde City, Hebei Province, was going to the supermarket to do some shopping. When she had just stepped out of the gate, she was abducted by police chief Jiang Xueyong and officer Ma Haidong from the National Security Team in Luanping County, Chengde City. She was sent to the office of the County National Security Team and interrogated for 4 hours. Afterwards, without any legal documentation, she was sent to Luanping County Detention Center and detained for 15 days. During this period, Jiang Xueyong and Ma Hadong said, "If her family brought 5000 yuan, Zhen Qinling could be released." Having heard this news, and in order to help their mother avoid persecution, Zheng Qinling's two daughters scraped together 5000 yuan and gave the money to Jiang Xueyong. However, Jiang Xueyong did not issue any receipt. In addition, the two sisters spent hundreds of yuan to treat Jiang Xueyong, Ma Haidong, and others to dinner. Ten days later, when she was near death, Zheng Qinling was released.
9. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Yan Jingqiu Arrested
On the morning of January 28, 2005, practitioner Ms. Yan Jingqiu from Qingdao City, about 40 years old, was arrested by the police when she was tearing down banners that slandered Falun Dafa. At noon that same day, her home was ransacked.
At present Yan Jingqiu is detained in Yananlu Police Station. It is said that she will be sent to Dashan Detention Center in Qingdao City.
10. [Yutai County, Shandong province] Li Yanli Sentenced to Forced Labor for Two Years
Ms. Li Yanli from Yutai County, due to her belief in Falun Gong, was sent to a labor camp by Yutai County Public Security department in 2001 and released in 2003. Because she refused to renounce her belief and continued to clarify the truth to people, she was arrested again in December 2004. She was detained in Jinxiang County Detention Center, Shandong Province, and her relatives are caring for her two children.
On January 27, 2005, Li Yanli was sentenced to a forced labor camp for two years. While she was being sent to Jinan Women's Forced Labor camp, her blood pressure increased dramatically and she was in critical condition. Even in this situation, she was still sent to the forced labor camp for persecution.

Ms. Zhao Chunling, Ms, Wang Yinghua and Liu Yingdi from Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province were reported and arrested by the police Chen Wanyou and others from the National Security Team when they were posting information about the persecution on the walls of City Public Security Bureau on January 6.
12. [Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province] Experiences of Pei Xiaoxia's Family
Ms. Pei Xiaoxia's family from Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province was arrested by police from Yangming District on October 22, 2003. Her husband, Mr. Wang Mingzhu, left the police station with righteous thoughts. Wang Mingzhu and his younger sister Wang Mingyan were forced to leave home and became homeless to avoid arrest. Pei Xiaoxia was sentenced to 5 years and detained in the Heilongjiang Women's Prison.
Wang Mingzhu and Wang Mingyan were arrested again at the end of October 2004 and detained at Xinglong Detention Center in Mudanjiang City.
(Clearwisdom.net) A "solemn declaration" is a person's public statement declaring to the world that whatever he or she has done or said under duress or deception that was against Falun Dafa is null and void. (Clearwisdom.net) Windows operation systems have always been famous for their usability, striving to perform complex tasks by a simple operation. But sometimes usability conflicts with security. With the widespread of use of the Internet, each pc in the network is a node of the Internet. Everyone, therefore, has to pay attention to security issues. As the latest version of Windows, XP has the best usability. Unfortunately, many default configurations aimed at improving usability actually bring about security risks.
1. Simple file sharing
In order to achieve file sharing by simply clicking the mouse several times for network users, XP has opened many Net BIOS security holes. To cancel the "simple file sharing" function, follow these steps:
Double-click My Computer and choose Tools menu item. Select Folder Options, and click the View tab. In the list of Advanced Settings, uncheck the last entry entitled "Use simple file sharing (recommended)."
FAT32
Many hard disks on new machines were formatted with FAT32. To improve security, we can change FAT32 to NTFS. NTFS allows the control of files and file folders' permissions more comprehensively and securely. We can also use Encrypting File System (EFS) to prevent files from being stolen at the level of the file partition.
Inside My Computer, we can the check file system by right-clicking the hard drive (C: for example) and selecting Properties. To change the file system to NTFS, we need to first backup important files. Next, click on the Start button at the lower left of the desktop window and select Run. Type "cmd" and hit the Enter key. A DOS window will then come up. Type "convert x: /fs:ntfs" (where x is the drive letter. i.e. convert c: /fs:ntfs). Note: You need be careful with this command since NTFS cannot be changed back to FAT32.
3. Guest accounts
Guest accounts can log into the computer, but their privileges are limited. Unfortunately, guest accounts provide a convenient way for a hacker to access your computer. Unless the guest account is absolutely necessary, we'd better disable it. In Windows XP Pro, right-click on My Computer and select Manage. Click the Local Users and Groups folder on the left panel and double-click the Users folder on the right panel. Double click on Guest Account to open the Properties and check off "Account is disabled." In WinXP Home, you are not allowed to disable the guest account. But we can set up a password for the guest account. To do this, click on Start, Run... and type "cmd" to open a DOS window. Type "Net user guest password" and hit Enter. Next, close the DOS window and open the Control Panel and open the "Users Account" window. Then set a password for the guest account by right-clicking and selecting Set Password.... Make sure that your password is a good one using letters and numbers, preferably not containing whole words. For example, if you'd like to use the word "computer," break up the word with a number, or replace letters with numbers: "c0mputer" is a much more secure password, as is "compu7ter." This is because hackers can utilize "dictionary" attacks that try every possible combination of words found in a dictionary. So, if you create a custom word like "h0neym00n," this type of attack will not find it.
4. The Administrator account
One common way for a hacker to invade is to acquire the password of the administrator account. Each computer needs at least one account that has administrator privileges, but the user name does not necessarily need to be "administrator." Therefore, whether you're using Windows XP Home or Windows XP Pro, you'd better create an account with full privileges and then disable the Administrator account. In addition, in WinXP Home, it is better to modify the default owner's account name. Finally, do not forget to set up enough complex passwords for all of the enabled accounts.
5. Swap file
Even if your operation is completely normal, Windows may still divulge important secret data, including passwords. You would probably never think of reading the divulged files, but a hacker definitely will. So what you need to do first is to clear the system's page file (swap file).
Click start->run, type "regedit" and click OK. On the left panel, find HKEY_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\sessionmanager\memory management. Modify ClearPageFileAtShutdown on the right panel by double-clicking it and setting the Value data to 1.
Note: be very careful when using Regedit. To be safe, you may want to make a backup of your Registry prior to making the above change. To do so, at the top of the Regedit window, select Export.... and then at the bottom of the export window, select the Export Range of "All." Then, choose a location for this backup file, type a name, and click Save. After making the above change, if you're experiencing problems because you may have done something accidentally when clicking around in Regedit, you can always open regedit and select File, Import... and import the backup registry file. This will reset your system to the point when you exported the file. Then you can try again.
6. Dump file
When the operation system runs into serious problems, it will save data in memory into a "dump file," which can help technicians diagnose the problem. But this file is useless to general users. In addition, the dump file may disclose sensitive information just as the swap file did. To prohibit the system from creating a dump file, open the Control Panel and double-click System. Then click the Advanced tab and click the "Settings" button under "Startup and Recovery." Select "(none)" for the "Write debugging information" section at the bottom.

If you do not need services like NetMeeting, Remote Desktop Sharing, Remote Desktop Help Session Manager, Remote Registry, Routing and Remote Access (which are used to allow remote connection to your computer), SSDP Discovery Service, Telnet, Universal Plug and Play Device Host, you'd better close them. Open the Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services. You will find the explanation for the services and their status. To close one service, you need to right click the name of service and select Properties. Then, in the "Startup type" line, choose "manual", then click the "stop" button.
8. Guards against the IPC loophole
IPC is the resource of sharing "named pipes" and are very important for inter-process communication. It is useful when administering a computer remotely or checking a computer's shared resources.
