Practitioners Exchange Insights and Experiences
News From China
(Clearwisdom.net) On Sunday 16h January 2005, the 2005 European Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Conference was held in London, England. Several hundred practitioners from nearly 20 European countries attended the conference. The atmosphere was solemn and the practitioners respected the importance and preciousness of this opportunity to share their experiences and insights with one another to improve together.
Different types of experience sharing papers were read throughout the day. Several new students wrote about how they found out about and learned Falun Dafa. Veteran practitioners wrote about how they have cultivated themselves whilst doing projects to raise awareness of the persecution, such as the lawsuits against the chief persecutors.
Falun Gong founder Master Li Hongzhi sent a message of congratulations to the conference.

(Clearwisdom.net) On January 13, 2005, several non-governmental organizations (NGO) including Amnesty International, Democratic China, Canadian Tibet Association and some Canadian Falun Dafa practitioners jointly held a press conference on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. They called on Prime Minister Paul Martin to urge the Chinese authorities to improve China's human rights situation during his state visit to China.
Speaker: Alex Neve, Secretary General of Amnesty International Canada; left on the back row: Grace Wollensak;Middle: representative from Tibet Association; right: Du Zhifu
In the press conference, Mr. Alex Neve, Secretary General of Amnesty International Canada appealed to the Prime Minister to urge the Chinese authorities to improve China's human rights. The first of the four requests he made was: Pressure China to release the countless prisoners of conscience who are currently incarcerated in prisons or labor camps throughout China, and make just verdicts for victims who were unjustly tried.
Mr. Neve mentioned that victims of many of the cases occurring in China have special connections with Canada. Many imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners have family members in Canada. Neve pointed out that Prime Minister should raise these people's cases to Chinese leaders.
Mr. Neve's second request to Prime Minister Martin was to encourage the people who have had the courage to uphold and promote human rights in China. These people have even sacrificed their freedom in order to safeguard human rights. Mr. Neve said that the Prime Minister should stress that Canada is absolutely not a country that abuses its own laws and regulations to punish people who uphold human rights.
Thirdly, this Secretary General of Amnesty International Canada emphasized that the Prime Minister should push China to sign international conventions and promise to join and observe international human rights accords. In addition, China should allow human rights specialists and international human rights organizations to enter China and monitor its human rights status.
Fourthly, Mr. Neve stressed to make it clear to big Canadian corporations (including those affiliated companies) that in the trade between Canadian corporations and China, human rights in China should be advocated and protected rather than harmed.
Neve claimed in his letter to the Prime Minister that reports showed technologies provided by many corporations in foreign countries including Northern Telecom are employed in China's internet censorship. Many people are arrested and imprisoned simply because they use internet as a peaceful tool to express and exchange their thoughts.
Behind the statement that "Stability overrides all other considerations"
Mr. Du Zhifu, representative of Democratic China, Ottawa Chapter confirmed the systematic persecution encountered by dissidents in China over the past few months. He said that the Chinese government has always stressed that "stability overrides all other considerations", however, stability does not come from more and cruel suppression or dictatorship. Instead, stability comes from rule of law, freedom and rights, especially basic human rights. Canada's legal system and respect to human rights are what China needs most.
Grace Wollensak, a representative of Canadian Falun Dafa Association, expressed that the Chinese government has always denied its violations of human rights. Taking Falun Gong as an example, many practitioners risk their lives to expose the real situation. Yet, their acts are labeled by the Chinese ruling party as "disclosing state secrets". According to NGO reports, 108 Falun Gong practitioners were sentenced up to 12 years in prison simply because they disclosed their personal experiences of persecution overseas through the internet. Three of them were tortured to death.
Natural disasters cannot be controlled, but murders can be stopped
Mrs. Wollensak said, "According to reports, currently, 50% of prisoners in prisons and labor camps are Falun Gong practitioners including 14 who have family members in Canada. One of the 14 practitioners was sentenced to 14 years in prison simply because he would not give up his practice of Falun Gong." Mr. Dai said that perhaps one is unable to control natural disaster such as tsunami, but murders can be stopped. We appeal to Prime Minister Martin to urge the Chinese authority, during his state-visit to China, to stop this anti-human persecution of good people.
Canadian Prime Minister's trip is from January 15 to 23. He will visit China and Japan after visiting Thailand, Sri Lanka and India, the countries hit by tsunami.

Prominent municipal official: "I certainly will not take part in those stupid acts."
In a certain city, a prominent municipal official was told the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong. Through his own observation and contemplation, he gradually came to understand the truth. A Falun Gong practitioner later approached him to clarify the truth, and urged him not to participate in the persecution because it would not be good for him. He replied: "I already know that, I certainly will not take part in those stupid acts."
Police chief: "Let it go! When they are redressed, those who suffer will be us."
In one township, a police chief and his assistant attended the city's meeting on how to deal with Falun Gong. On their way home, they saw Falun Gong practitioners hanging banners. The assistant said: "Look! How dare they, hanging banners in broad daylight, let's arrest them." The police chief replied: "Let it go! When Falun Gong is redressed, those who suffer will be us."
Old cadre: This Jiang Zemin is so detestable!
A retired older cadre had some misunderstandings about Falun Gong practitioners' distributing flyers, hanging banners, and posting truth clarifying phrases. At first he thought that the practitioners were against the government. However through practitioners' persistent efforts clarifying the truth in depth, he came to understand that out of personal jealousy, Jiang's gang used lies and deceit to spread falsehoods to the entire nation. Jiang also betrayed China's sovereignty by surrendering a big chunk of the nation's territory to Russia. He ignored the hard work of the citizens, mobilizing one quarter of the nation's financial resources at his disposal for the sake of brutally persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, good people who believe in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance." The cadre responded indignantly, "This Jiang Zemin is so detestable! He will ruin this country. No good ever comes out of him. Lies, deceit, and falsehoods are everywhere. Only this is real (pointing to Falun Gong truth clarifying materials). I am certainly willing to read this.
The village cadre condemns the 610 Office for deceiving him: "I refuse to do those immoral deeds!"
The city 610 Office and police from the city police station concocted a plan to abduct a Falun Gong practitioner from a certain village. They deceived the village cadre by saying that they wanted to talk to the Falun Gong practitioner, and asked the cadre to take them to the practitioner's home. The village cadre believed what they said and directed them to the Falun Gong practitioner's home. As a result, the practitioner was abducted and taken to the police station, where he was tortured and brutally persecuted.
Later, the same corrupt 610 Office officials again lied to the same village cadre, attempting to abduct another Falun Gong practitioner in the cadre's village. The village cadre recognized their tricks and condemned their actions: "All those practitioners are good people. Aren't you deceiving people?! Under the pretext of looking for people to talk to them, you arrest them. This time, you've come to deceive me again. I won't do those immoral deeds! Go by yourself if you like!" The wicked officials shamefully retreated and shabbily disappeared under the righteous condemnation of the village cadre.
Bureau leader: "I'll always speak out when someone complains about you."
A Falun Gong practitioner was clarifying the truth to the director of a certain bureau. The conference room of the bureau was previously rented out to Falun Gong practitioners for group study and practice. The director of the bureau was furious about the authority's persecution of Falun Gong. He said: "I have a very good understanding about practitioners of Falun Gong. I know all of you are good people. All these years, when I heard someone criticizing Falun Gong, I always spoke up for you. I told them, what do you know about Falun Gong practitioners? I have the greatest right to speak because of what I know about them. These practitioners are not like what the news media say. Through my interaction with them, for example, in renting out our conference facility to them, their actions have proven that they are upright, honest people. After they rented out our premises, practitioners voluntarily took care of cleaning all the washrooms. After office hours, when the office was left unlocked due to carelessness, we have never, ever lost anything, even though it was full of valuable items. When we have the practitioners around, whether we leave the entrance door locked or unlocked, it makes no difference to us. At times, when practitioners arrive late for practice, they are very conscientious. They even take off their shoes while downstairs to avoid making any noise, so as not to disturb others. All of their deeds and actions are full of consideration for other people. Do you think that such kind hearted people can be the type that the news media say they are?"
(Clearwisdom.net) According to the Epoch Times, Yang Shihong, a former member of the Discipline Inspection Committee and the director of Public Security in Wuhan City, was put on trial by the Intermediate District People's Court of Huangshi City on December 7, 2004. He was charged with embezzlement, bribery, and diversion of public funds.
Corrupt Official Awaiting Verdict from the Legal System
According to the report, the 50-year old Yang Shihong, wearing a prison, uniform was taken to the court at 8:40 a.m. on December 7. The public prosecutor of the People's Court read the 6-page long indictment after the court opened.
Yang Shihong held many offices prior to his indictment, including: Jiangan District Magistrate of Wuhan City, District Secretary of the Political and Judicial Committee, member of the Discipline Inspection Committee, Chairman of the City Labor Union, Party Secretary of the Political and Judicial Committee of the City Public Security Office, Secretary of Prefecture Committee Political and Judiciary Committee of the City, and Director of the City Public Security Office. The Provincial Prosecutor made the decision to arrest him on suspicion of bribery on January 14, 2004, and he was arrested the next day.
According to the investigation conducted by the Prosecutor's Office, it was discovered that from 1994 to 1999 he and others were involved in the embezzlement of public funds in the amount of 3,789,690 yuan. His share was 1,843,846 yuan. Between 1996 and 2003, he used his position to help others make illegal profits. In return he received kickbacks of 2,125,000 yuan, 101,000 US dollars, 10,000 Hong Kong dollars, and two houses worth 511,080 yuan.
He didn't raise any objections to the charges brought against him during the trial.
Yang Shihong Used His Power to Persecute Falun Dafa
The Hewan Drug Rehabilitation Center in Wuhan City, situated near Hankou Xinhuaxia Street, became a center to detain Falun Dafa practitioners from Wuhan City and the surrounding area. It has the reputation of being Wuhan's "Masanjia" because Falun Dafa practitioners are savagely tortured there.
According to the Minghui website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net), Yang Shihong rose to power very quickly because he was very active in participating in the illegal persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners. The Jiang group promoted him to Communist Party Member of the Discipline Inspection Committee of Wuhan City, Secretary of the Prefecture Committee Political and Judiciary Committee of Wuhan City, and Secretary and Director of the Public Security Office. He held power equivalent to the joint authority granted to the armed forces, the police, the military police, and the Special Forces.
With his newly acquired power, he began to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners with insane zest while embezzling large sums of public funds.
Since 2003, twenty-five employees of the Wuhan Municipal Intermediate Court have been arrested. Two of them are deputy directors and nine are presiding judges. While in power, Yang was very brutal in persecuting kind-hearted practitioners and also showed his extreme greed. He used his position to resell at inflated prices one thousand Mu [a Chinese land measure unit; 1 mu = 0.16 acre] of land in Wuhan City, providing him with exorbitant profits.
His followers and in-laws also committed countless crimes by extorting huge sums of money from Falun Dafa practitioners for personal gain. They also frequented restaurant bars, especially the ones that have a connection with Yang Shihong.
According to some sources, Yang Shihong and his followers obtained their illegal income from the following sources:
The same sources also said that in persecuting Falun Gong, the Political and Judicial Committee obtains its funds from the taxpayers as well as from the illegal fines they impose upon practitioners and their families. For example, the Jianghan District Political and Judicial Committee and the 610 Office use the brainwashing classes to earn money. Every year, they are allocated four hundred thousand yuan from administrative expenditures for "building rent." Then they rent a remote, old, broken-down house. After installing wire fencing, they use the house to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. They divide the huge sum of money left over among themselves. In addition, Falun Gong practitioners detained there have to pay over one thousand yuan every month. By the time they are released, some have paid over ten thousand yuan.
(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Li Aiyun, 38, was a Falun Gong practitioner from Hanhaozhuang Village, Zhangshangying Township in Yanqing County, Beijing. In October 2000, she was watching a Falun Gong video-tape at home. Someone reported this to the police and she was arrested and sentenced to one year of forced labor. She was detained in the Xin'an Labor Camp in Beijing's Daxing District where she was tortured severely. She later developed symptoms of TB and was sent to a TB hospital. In January 2001, she was released on medical parole. On October 14, 2002 she passed away.
The Xin'an Labor Camp, now called Beijing Women's Labor Camp, has been a place where Dafa practitioners are severely persecuted. From July 2000 to July 2001, more than 1,000 practitioners were detained there. The guards forced practitioners to write a "guarantee letter" by cruelly torturing them. One practitioner who refused to write the letter was deprived of sleep for one month. They used many barbaric tortures such as electric shocking with multiple batons and all kinds of other physical punishment.
Ms. Guo Xuelian, an 18-year-old woman from Shandong Province, was detained there for several months, from the end of 2000 to early 2001. After repeated physical assaults, undisclosed medication and other extreme physical and mental torture, she became mentally traumatized.
Other practitioners also lost their lives in police custody in Yangqing County. After the 47- year-old Ms. Cui Fuer appealed for Falun Gong, the Yanqing County police fiendishly beat her and sent her to forced labor. Later she returned home so injured that she was confined to bed for many days. On August 3, 2003, she passed away.
Mr. Wu Simin, a 63-year-old practitioner, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on December 25, 2000. He was arrested and sent to a detention center in Yanqing where he was brutally beaten. He died on January 12, 2001.

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Guang was a TV reporter and presenter in Laizhou, Shandong Province. He was illegally arrested, imprisoned in Weibei Prison in Weifang City and cruelly tortured for being steadfast in his belief in Falun Dafa. On December 3, 2004, Li Guang was beaten to death by prison guard Xu Haiming and others.
Mr. Guang was a resident in Laizhou, Shandong Province. Li Guang was an honor graduate from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Prior to his arrest, he was a reporter and presenter at the Laizhou TV Station. He was unlawfully arrested at the Qingdao Aviation Sanatorium for his belief and was then imprisoned at the Weibei Prison in Weifang.
In March 2004, Li Guang assertively requested the prison authorities to release unlawfully detained Falun Gong practitioners as soon as possible, and for this he was cruelly persecuted. To protest the prison guards' evildoings, Li Guang launched a hunger strike, which lasted for seven months. In order to make him renounce his faith, the prison guards used up to seven electric batons to shock him simultaneously, which made his neck swell to the same size as his head. During the hunger strike he suffered various kinds of torture; there were 40 incidents of electric shocking alone, lasting between three and four hours each time.
During the unlawful imprisonment, Li Guang refused to cooperate with the forced brainwashing known as "political studies." He also refused to participate in forced labor or watch slanderous TV propaganda.
Li Guang was initially in No.5 Ward in Weibei Prison. Prison guards there exhausted all their methods but failed to shake his determination in his belief.
At the end of November 2004, Li Guang was transferred from the No. 5 Ward to the Educational Section. Section Head Xu Haiming, a principal perpetrator in that prison had attended nationwide training [on the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners]. Because he was actively involved in persecuting practitioners, he was awarded 5,000 yuan. He organized a group of criminal inmates to torture practitioners.
Under Xu Haiming's leadership, prison guards took steadfast practitioners from different wards in groups to the prison headquarters for further persecution. Li Guang was in the last group from the No. 5 Ward to be transferred to a confinement room in the No. 1 Ward where he was continuously deprived of sleep. Within five days, under Xu Haiming's high-pressure persecution, Li Guang was beaten to death on December 3, at the Weibei Prison Headquarters.
Li Guang's body was directly sent to the prison headquarters hospital's mortuary. The next day the prison notified Li Guang's family. When the family members inquired about the cause of Li Guang's death, Liu Yongchang, the deputy prison Head, called in about 20 police to tightly guard the area and did not permit any person to get close.
The Weibei Prison held a series of meetings to order all the prison guards to tell the identical lie that Li Guang hanged himself. They stonewalled all requests for information and threatened that whoever disclosed the truth would be fired immediately, once verified. They also said they needed to strictly control practitioners' activities, and so on.
Below is the letter Li Guang had written in prison to his fellow practitioners:
"I am going to take another step forward. This may be my last big step. I have handed in my statement, which said that from next Monday on I will stop doing forced labor, I will not wear the prison uniform and I will not squat down. I will practice the Falun Gong exercises (whether this can be achieved is another issue). I have thought of these before but I could not step forward. After studying the Fa during the recent period of time, I don't think it is difficult any more.
"About what you can do to cooperate with my actions, I think you can send forth righteous thoughts. Please concentrate on sending forth righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil factors (the dark minions, wicked beings and old forces who participate in the persecution) that control the evildoers in the No. 5 Ward. In particular, when they do violence on me, please do not be disconcerted if you hear it. Calm down and strengthen the righteous thoughts to eliminate the wicked things in other dimensions.
"If there are no surprises, I believe I can walk this step well. You should avoid being overanxious for quick success, and meanwhile you should be diligent so that you can catch up as soon as possible and do well the things you should do."

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Zhao Yingqi was a former employee of the Retirees' Management Section, Lanfang Village Mine, Guye District, Tangshan City, Hebei Province. In 1987, he was seriously injured in an underground mine accident. He was hospitalized for 9 years and after several surgeries, his left leg was shortened by 5 centimeters. He was categorized as grade 3 disabled, and before leaving the hospital, a grade 4 disabled, which meant a complete loss of work ability. After he learned Falun Gong, he asked to leave the hospital. After a period of time of practicing Falun Gong, Zhao went from relying on crutches and a wheelchair to riding bicycles and tricycles by himself. Many people witnessed his remarkable recovery.
Mr. Zhao Yingqi
Although Chinese law prohibits sending a disabled person to a forced labor camp, Zhao was illegally detained at the Hehuakeng Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan City beginning November 20, 2002, because he persisted in practicing Falun Gong. He died the following month after being brutally tortured.
The guards at the camp claimed that Zhao died of normal causes. In reality, Zhao had injuries all over his body. His head was collapsed, a piece of flesh over his right ribcage was missing, and bruises extended from his fingers to his back and neck. His eyes were still open, his hands and nails were blue, and his stomach, which was first found shrunken, swelled a little after being injected with some water.
Injuries on Zhao's Body
Mr. Zhao died at the age of 59 on December 30, 2002, the same day when he was sent to the hospital. The doctor wanted to send him to the morgue twice, but did not do so because Zhao's family did not agree. On his death certificate, the time of death was recorded as 8:02 pm, January 2, 2003.
The following is the appeal letter by Zhao's wife, Ms. Zhao Yanru.
Procurators and Judges:
My Name is Zhao Yanru. I am Zhao Yingqi's wife. My home address is No.20, 15th Floor, Building 77, Nanfang Village Mine, Guye District, Tangshan City. My husband was tortured to death at the Hehuakeng Forced Labor Camp on December 30, 2002 because he practices Falun Gong. The forced labor camp, however, lied and tried to cover up the real reason of his death. The officers who killed my husband are still at large. I here request you to check this case and bring the offenders to justice.
The following is a description of my husband:
Zhao Yingqi was a former employee of the Retirees' Management Section, Lanfang Village Mine, Guye District, Tangshan City, Hebei Province. In 1987, he was seriously injured when working in an underground mine. He had a compound fracture on his left thigh. Due to a surgery mistake, he had to undergo three additional bone implant surgeries and was hospitalized for 9 years. As a result, his left leg shortened by 5 centimeters. He relied on crutches to get around, and he could not bend his knee. It was difficult for him to defecate as he could not squat down.
He was a group leader and safety inspector at his job, and was a hard worker. Many times he went to work on Sundays, and was chosen as a model worker. He is an honest and righteous person, and enjoyed helping others.
He asked to leave the hospital after his condition improved from practicing Falun Gong. The head of the hospital said: "It's good that Zhao practices Falun Gong." At the Hospital, my husband was categorized as a grade 3 disabled, and after leaving the hospital, a grade 4 disabled, which meant a total loss of work ability. Practicing Falun Gong cured him both physically and mentally. He went from using crutches and a wheelchair to riding bicycles and tricycles. He takes the children to and from school, goes shopping, and handles our business. His face became rosy. His nasosinusitis that troubled him for over 20 years and hemorrhoids were all cured. People who knew him said he became stronger than a young man. Many people witnessed it.
After July 20, 1999, the Security Department and the Retiree's Section of the Nanfang Village Mine tricked, arrested, and harassed my husband many times. They also fined him 2,000 yuan, deducted 2,500 yuan of his pension as a deposit, and reduced his monthly pension to only 195 yuan. He was illegally detained at the Mine Well Group for more than ten months. My husband developed heart problems from being tortured in the detention center and not being able to practice the Falun Dafa exercises. The retirees' management section asked me to pay them money in front of the hospital. It was cold, I did not have money and had to take care of my granddaughter-in-law, and I could not agree to the security department's conditions. Later, Li Heping from the security department and Gu Laicun, the Communist Party Secretary of the Retirees' Management Section, came to my home to threaten me.
Many times, Li Heping has threatened Zhao Yingqi that "We'll cancel your grade 4 disabled person' benefits and send you to a forced labor camp." Since I did not pay Li Heping off, he did not allow me to see my husband even when I delivered meals for him.
On October 17, 2002, my husband was abducted to the mine security department. We didn't see him for a month. It's known he was beaten. On November 20, 2002, he was transferred to the Hehuakeng Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan City. At 4pm on December 30, 2002, Ai Zhenmin of the First Brigade at the Hehuakeng Forced Labor Camp came to my home. He told me that Zhao Yingqi had a sudden brain hemorrhage of about 150 cc and was under emergency treatment. I asked, "Why didn't you tell me earlier?" Ai replied, "We couldn't reach you!" Before I could go see my husband at the hospital, I had to first calm down my 87-year-old mother, and ask my neighbor to tell my elder son to go to the hospital to visit his father. Then I went with Zhao Yingqi's second sister to the hospital. We arrived around 6pm and there were many police officers guarding the ward.
After making requests to the doctors, my sister-in-law and I went to see my husband. His eyes were open. A 3mm diameter plastic tube was inserted into his mouth. He was very thin with a shrunken stomach. His fingers were as thin as chopsticks. The forced labor camp told us that Zhao Yingqi was happy, ate good food, and was well taken care of. Before we had a chance to carefully examine my husband, we were driven out of the room. Zhao Yingqi was strong and healthy at home, but died within 40 days at the forced labor camp. At around 7pm, the hospital wanted to send my husband to the morgue room. My sister-in-law urged while crying, "Please wait for a moment, let his children have a final look at him." After a short while, the hospital again wanted to move him to the morgue room, but my sister-in-law again urged them to wait. I quickly called my friends and relatives to inform our children to hurry up to the hospital. My husband's third sister bought him burial garments. My second son arrived and took a quick look at his father. I asked the doctors to make a final effort to save his life. But they said there was no hope. When my elder daughter and son came, they were not allowed to see their father.
The next day (December 31, 2002), my children and I requested to clean up my husband's body and put on his clothes. Only the children were allowed in. After a while, they came out to ask me, "Why is father so thin? His eyes were still open, so we closed them." Later it was found that a piece of flesh over his left ribcage was missing. There were bruises on both sides of his buttocks. His head was deformed and appeared collapsed. Traces of blood were found on the right corner of his mouth to his ear. His fingers were bruised, which extended to his neck and back. On December 30, 2002, his stomach was shrunken but swelled up a little after they injected some water into his abdomen. My daughter wanted to shave her father, but was stopped by her uncle (Zhao Yingqi's younger half-brother.) Zhao Yingqi had no clothes on at that time, yet my brother-in-law asked us to go home first, and talk with the mine company and the forced labor camp.
On January 1, 2003 after lunch, my daughter could not bear that her father was not wearing any clothes. She talked with her uncle, but was reprimanded by him.
At 8:02 pm on January 2, 2003, my brother-in-law called and said the forced labor camp has confirmed that my husband was dead, and asked us to put on his clothes. My children immediately went to the forced labor camp to deal with the issue.
The forced labor camp was in charge of everything from Zhao Yingqi's sickness to his death. My husband's company was asked to prepay part of the disabled person's compensation to pay for the medical expenses so his body could be brought back. The 10,422.89 yuan in medical cost was to be paid using the insurance policy. He signed the paper, which stated Zhao died of a normal cause. My daughter refused to sign in the beginning, but was finally tricked into it.
As Zhao Yingqi's wife, I did not agree to what my brother-in-law and daughter did. I did not sign anything, and did not give permission to my children to sign any documents, including the one that stated my husband died of natural causes. How could it be a natural death? Zhao Yingqi was tortured to death by the forced labor camp. The camp has been lying. According to the detention rules issued by the Chinese Public Security Ministry, no senior citizens, pregnant women, disabled persons, or overseas Chinese can be detained. Still Zhao, a grade 4 disabled person, was detained and the Hehuakeng Forced Labor Camp apparently broke the rule.
At around 7 p.m. on December 30, 2002, the hospital urged me twice to send Zhao's body to the morgue, yet I got another death notice which stated that my husband died at 8:02 p.m. on January 2, 2003. In April 2003, I received my husband's medial records. On the first page, it noted a successful rescue on January 2, 2003. There was a line on the comments column that stated that, "In January 2003, a diagnosis fee of 1,000 yuan was paid to the 301 hospital." On July 25, I called Ai Zhenmin at the labor camp to ask for the cause of death by the medical experts of the 301 hospital, and the receipt for the 1000 yuan fee. Ai Zhenmin was frightened and answered, "You need to talk to the hospital." I then called Shi Wenjian, the director of the hospital. Shi said the forced labor camp made the diagnosis for the hospital. Shi said, "You can ask the head of the forced labor camp to come, and I'll clarify the issue to you face to face." Shi told me the forced labor camp agreed to pay the 1,000 yuan fee. Later I called Ai Zhenmin again but could not reach him.
On March 19, 2004, my family went to the People's Hospital to get a list of the medical fees. They asked Shi Jianwen to explain the diagnosis made by the 301 hospital experts. Shi said, "Besides this one, there is another account of 3,090 yuan called the Old Cadre's Medical Fee." When asked what it was, Shi replied, "The forced labor camp promised to pay this bill because the City Communist Party Secretary Chen Man ordered to rescue your husband at all costs." Now that the forced labor camp murdered my husband, the medical cost could not be fully covered by the insurance policy and I had to pay part of the cost. I still have not received reimbursement of the over 10,000 yuan in medical expenses.
Sources report that the forced labor camp asked the mine to pick my husband up on December 28 and 29, 2002, but the mine refused. Since Zhao is a grade 4 disabled person, the forced labor camp accepted him only after the mine bribed the camp. The forced labor camp said it should not have accepted my husband, and the mine should not have sent Zhao there. During the 75 days that Zhao Yingqi was abducted from October 17, 2002, until his death, our family was deprived of our visitation rights. When Zhao was detained at the Second Detention Center of Tangshan City, both the Mine Security Department and the Retiree's Management Section refused to issue a letter for a visit from my daughter. She was refused entry into the security department by the gate guard. My daughter asked Gu Laicun, the Communist Party Secretary of the Retiree's Management Section, "Why was my father sent to the forced labor camp while he has a disabled leg?" Gu said, "If he breaks the law, we'll still send him, even if he was 80 years old." My husband was known as a good father who loved his children, and a good son who cared for his elderly parents. What law did he break?
Experiencing pain and shock from the lost of her beloved son-in-law, who died unjustly, my mother died a month later after my husband's death.
Based on Chapter 2, item 35, 36, 37, and 41 of the Chinese Constitution, my husband did not commit any crime and was wrongfully tortured to death. The facts are here. I appeal to put those who persecuted my husband to justice.
Zhao Yanru, wife of Zhao Yingqi

(Clearwisdom.net) In 2002 and the end of 2003, Masanjia Forced Labor Camp held two "Harsh Attack" campaigns targeting detained Falun Gong practitioners. The labor camp carried out violent brainwashing and torture against the practitioners. Many practitioners who refused to give up Falun Gong were injured, disabled and mentally tormented. Some severely injured practitioners died soon after being sent home.
1. Partial information of the First Brigade's "Harsh Attack" in 2002
On December 9, 2002, Liaoning Province organized the so-called "Brainwashing Assistance Group". They got assistance from the 610 Office and public security bureau from each city. Assistance also came from former Falun Gong practitioners who had gone astray due to brainwashing and persecution. The group came to stay in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp solely to torture determined Falun Gong practitioners. Every day from early morning until late at night, the TVs kept broadcasting programs slandering and attacking Falun Dafa. Such brainwashing propaganda lasted for more than a month.
During the over-one-month "Harsh Attack," the brigade heads were not allowed to go home. The brigade heads and all officers at lower levels were in charge of the first round of the persecution of practitioners. The practitioners who would not compromise with them were sent over to the "Brainwashing Assistance Group," which was in charge of the second round of persecution. There were cases where some practitioners were directly sent to the "Brainwashing Assistance Group." The brigade heads of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp brazenly claimed "No single practitioner can escape from here without being transformed."
The methods of persecution include:
1) Forcing a practitioner to stand or squat down for a prolonged period of time. Some practitioners were forced to stand or squat for five consecutive days and nights.
2) Electric shocking of a practitioner's chest, inner thighs, bottoms of the feet, palms and hands.
3). Hanging up a practitioner on a heating pipe with both hands tied together, and toes barely touching the ground. The heating pipe was made so hot that it burned the practitioner's hands and left big blisters. The burned practitioner was sent to the labor camp's clinic, where the blisters were stabbed open with needles, leaving astonishing scabs. Some practitioner's arms were disabled from the torture and they were unable to raise their arms for more than one year.
4). Stripping off a practitioner's clothes and hanging her up on a heating pipe with the feet above the ground, and hitting the practitioner with big wooden board. The practitioner's arms were disabled and unable to move.
5). Depriving practitioners of sleep for more than one month. Some practitioners were tortured to the point of mental collapse. The perpetrators spread rumors and lied to the public, saying that the practitioner went insane because of practicing Falun Gong. They even forced others to fake evidence to prove that the practitioner was insane before being detained. They used it to try to shirk their responsibility.
6). Using a special electric handcuff to hang up a practitioner to the heating pipe. After locking a practitioner in an isolated cell, the brigade head beat up the practitioner at will.
7). Hanging up practitioners with their hands cuffed behind their backs. The practitioner's hands are tied behind his back with one hand over the shoulder and the other hand against the lower back. With both feet off the ground, one is hung on the heating pipe with the handcuffs. Both hands and arms will soon lose feeling and go numb.
8). Freezing. Only allowing practitioners to wear a very thin layer of clothes. In the winter, the practitioners were forced to stand in the shade to be frozen for a whole day.
9). Tying the legs (this method came from the Jinzhou "Brainwashing Assistance Group"). They force the practitioner to sit on the ground with both legs crossed. The legs are tied up with ropes. Both hands are cuffed and then the practitioner was hung up on the heating pipe. Some practitioners' hands were cuffed behind the back as described in item 7 above. The practitioners were tortured like this for 12 consecutive hours. Some practitioners were exhausted and vomited blood, but the perpetrators kept on torturing them, forcing them to stand, squat, or sit with legs crossed. Some "collaborators" cruelly stomped on practitioners' legs.
Most of the members of the "Brainwashing Assistance Group" were male guards from forced labor camps of other cities. The group had several collaborators. Some members did the torture of "tying the legs" on practitioners, forced practitioners to sit in the lotus position, cuffed a practitioner's hands behind his back with one hand over the shoulder and the other hand against the lower back, and slandered Falun Dafa's founder. Some members used 3-inch-long needles to stab practitioners' arms, severely injuring their arms until they were unable to move. Some practitioners were forced to wear humiliating hats while being abused. Some were forced to squat for several consecutive days and nights. To use the toilet, the practitioners were forced to "duck walk" to the toilet by walking in a squatting position. One practitioner was locked in an isolated cell and got frostbite in his toes.
After the "Harsh Attack," the practitioners who yielded to the persecution were forced to do Tai Chi exercises. Brigade head Fang Yehong kept the brainwashing session running at the same time. Fang said that: "Practitioners' deaths caused by brainwashing would be counted as committing suicide and had nothing to do with Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. The labor camp had a death quota and it was no big deal to have some practitioners die." The practitioners who yielded under torture were awakened later. When such practitioners declared that they would continue to practice Falun Gong, their terms were extended by three to six months.
Because of the hard work of exposing the persecution done by the practitioners who were outside the labor camp, the police and "Brainwashing Assistance Group" in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp had some restraint of their behavior in the second "Harsh Attack" at the end of 2003, and were not so rampant as they were in the 2002 "Harsh Attack."
2. Partial information of the "Harsh Attack" held at the end of 2003 in the First Brigade
In mid October 2003, Masanjia Forced Labor Camp launched another round of "Harsh Attack." In November 2003, all cities' 610 Offices in Liaoning Province and public security bureaus had a meeting in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. On December 5, 2003, the "Brainwashing Assistance Group" came to the labor camp again and started another round of persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
The persecution methods used included: depriving practitioners of sleep for more than one month (every ten days or half month, the practitioner was occasionally allowed to take a 4-hour nap), repeatedly sending practitioners to brainwashing sessions, and forcing practitioners to sit with legs tied and crossed. Some brigades only allowed practitioners to sleep for four hours every day for one month. The practitioners were forced to attend brainwashing sessions in the daytime. Some practitioners were forced to wear banners with slogans against Falun Dafa and its founder. Some perpetrators put many such banners together into a square and forced the practitioners to sit inside it. They also hung up the banners on the wall and forced the practitioners to stand facing the wall.
The "Brainwashing Assistance Group" was invited by Masanjia Forced Labor Camp and the group would come whenever the camp needed it. Whenever police from Masanjia sent a practitioner over to the group, the group was ordered to brainwash the practitioner. The group's members used the following tactics: forcefully tying up the practitioner's legs, slandering the founder of Falun Gong, torturing with beatings and electric shocks, and misleading the practitioner by twisting the meanings of the principles of Falun Dafa.
Compared with the 2002 "Harsh Attack," there were some differences. After the brainwashing, the perpetrators added a quiz section. They, including Fang Yehong, forced every practitioner to answer the quiz alone in front of them. Some examples of the questions on the quiz were: Is it right to be transformed? Will you still practice Falun Gong if you are released? And, comment on the "Brainwashing Assistance Group." They tried to cover their crimes by forcing the practitioners to say that the brainwashing was right.
The so-called "directly managed team" of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp was extremely vicious. During the "Harsh Attack" at the end of 2003, all the determined practitioners who refused to be transformed were sent to the "directly managed team," where the practitioners were subjected to all kinds of appalling and despicable torture.
In both "Harsh Attack" in 2002 and 2003, the perpetrators threatened the practitioners that if they would not be transformed this time, the practitioners would be sent to Dabei Prison, or Daxibei (notorious for its harsh living conditions) to do heavy labor. In the "Harsh Attack" periods, the labor camp stopped forcing the practitioners to do hard labor. They broadcast slanderous programs against Dafa and its founder on TV in every cell all day long. They also forced the practitioners who yielded to the persecution to read statements denouncing Falun Gong in front of everyone. If they refused, they would not be allowed to return to their brigade.
Every year after the "Harsh Attack," the practitioners were forced to do Tai Chi exercises. If they refused, the practitioners would be cuffed and hung up on heating pipes, including elderly women. The perpetrators deprived the practitioners of sleep as long as 20 days, until the practitioners had symptoms of nausea, vomiting, fever, dizziness, and being unable to eat food. Sometimes they cuffed the practitioners' hands behind their backs, tied up their legs to force them to sit in lotus position, or stuffed the practitioners' mouths with dirty rags. They would not stop the torture until the practitioners gave up. If they refused to give up, the guards would extend the practitioners' terms using the excuse of the practitioners violating the labor camp regulations and discipline.
The hard labor that Masanjia Forced Labor Camp forced the practitioners to do is harmful, and done in a toxic environment that affects women's ability to become pregnant. Most practitioners had symptoms of labored breathing, itchy skin, dizziness and nausea.

(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa practitioner Mr. Yu Shujin from Yongji County, Jilin City, 55 years old, was arrested by the national security brigade of Shulan Municipal Public Security Bureau and was secretly sentenced to 12 years of prison. Currently, he is imprisoned at the Nanshan Detention Center, Shulan City. Mr. Yu and four other Dafa practitioners who were sentenced at the same time refused to accept the judgment and are appealing to the Jilin Municipal Intermediate People's Court, in accordance with the law. The statute of limitations is now expiring for this.
When being arrested, Mr. Yu resisted the persecution. When he was interrogated, he shouted loudly, "Falun Dafa is good." He was brutally beaten by the police. The brutal torture, the harsh environment, and the serious spiritual pressure caused Mr. Yu to fall seriously ill. The police once took Mr. Yu to the hospital for first-aid and the doctors extracted a massive amount of blood from his body. According to the doctors' initial diagnosis, he had late-stage lung edema and would develop cancer if it occurred again. The detention center asked for money to have Mr. Yu' illness treated, but several years of suffering relentless persecution had left Mr. Yu's family poverty-stricken. They struggled just to maintain a basic standard of living and his family did not have the ability to pay the hospital bills. Now, Mr. Yu's whole body has edema. His abdomen has swollen to be very large and his legs are also swollen. All his internal organs are failing and it is difficult for him to eat. His body is extremely weak and he cannot take care of himself. He is in critical condition.
Because Mr. Yu's condition was extremely serious and he was on the verge of death, his family members asked Shulan Municipal Public Security Bureau several times to release him. However, they refused.
Now, because Mr. Yu's family members do not have the money, the detention center authorities demanded to treat his illness, and the Shulan Municipal Public Security Bureau refused to allow his family members to visit him. They claimed Mr. Yu refused to cooperate with them in having his illness treated and refused to release him.
We are now appealing to all people of conscience, from all walks of life to support and rescue Dafa practitioner Mr. Yu, who is critically ill. Help bring to justice the Shulan Municipal Public Security Bureau and the detention center for their crimes of torturing and mercilessly beating practitioners, and displaying complete disregard for Dafa practitioners' lives.
The people who are responsible for Mr. Yu's persecution are Wang Tingbai, Li Jiazhe, Xiao Yong, Li Chang, Li Yaochen, etc., from the Shulan Municipal Public Security Bureau.
The Deputy Chief of Shulan Municipal Public Security Bureau is Xin He.
Police from Shulan Municipal Public Security Bureau are Wang Tingbai, Li Jiazhe, Li Chang, Xiao Yong and Li Yaochen.

Ma Yongming was a Falun Dafa practitioner from Wuqing District, Tianjin City. After learning Falun Dafa, Yongming's family experienced happiness and his health and spirit greatly improved. In July 1999, the government launched the persecution of Falun Dafa and Yongming became the target of local authorities. On November 25, 2001, Ma Yongming could not bear the pressure any longer, and he committed suicide by hanging himself. Falun Dafa forbids killing, including killing oneself. Dafa practitioners should cherish the human body, and continue to cultivate according to Dafa's principles when facing suffering or humiliation. But it was the repeated persecution that led to Ma Yongming's death. Those who participated in persecuting him will be punished according to the laws of heaven and earth.
Ma Yongming lived in Heping Village of Baigutun Town at Wuqing District, Tianjin City. Ma Yongming and his wife started practicing Falun Dafa in 1998. Through practice, their physical health and morality improved, and they were able to be more tolerant toward each other. Ma Yongming used to have a bad temper, causing frequent quarrels. When they started acting according to the principles of Falun Dafa, "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance," their family problems were resolved and their lives improved.
On July 20, 1999, when Jiang Zemin started to persecute Falun Dafa, Ma Yongming and his wife remained steadfast in their belief in Teacher and Dafa. One morning, Wang Jixin, the director of Baigutun Town Police Station, along with some other policemen, went to Ma Yongming's home. Heping Village Party Committee Secretary Li Zhenfang, Security Officer Guo Fu and some other government officers such as Wang Jincai from the Forced Birth Control Office accompanied the police. These people took two cars and went to Ma Yongming's home to confiscate his Dafa books. They also tried to pressure Ma Yongming, asking him to give up practicing and to write a Repentance Statement. Ma Yongming said, "There is nothing wrong with performing the exercises and becoming a better person." So he refused to do anything. The authorities then abducted him to the Baigutun Town government office, and forced him to turn in his Dafa books. If he did not turn the books, he would be kept there indefinitely. Under such enormous pressure, his family was forced to turn in two books. Ma Yongming was released, but he still felt terrible because his family turned in the Dafa books.
On February 27, 2000, when some practitioners in Baigutun Town gathered together to share understandings, all of them were arrested. From that time on, both the town government and the local police started to monitor and follow the practitioners every day. On March 13, Village Security Officer Guo Fu led the Town Political and Juridical Committee Secretary Liu Shidong and another officer to Ma Yongming's house after 11 pm. They asked Ma Yongming and his wife to give up their practice, but the couple refused. The authorities then arrested them and took them to the police station for an illegal interrogation. Police Station Director Wang Jixin threatened them: "Do you still want to practice? If so, you can no longer go back home." Another policeman took a pair of handcuffs and waved them in the air as a threat. Later, the couple was taken to the town government building for brainwashing. They were asked to give up their practice and make written statements. They were released after 5 days of illegal detention and 1,000 Yuan each bail money. They were also asked to report to the police station at 8 am every day. Since Ma Yongming wrote a statement under intense pressure, he felt very bad, and extremely guilty.
On the morning of May 12, 2000, Ma Yongming, his wife, his sister Ma Yongyun, cousin Ma Yongli, and brother Ma Yongyue were talking about family issues at Ma Yongyue's house. Suddenly, town government officers Liu Shidong, Zhang Xiuyong, Qiao and some other police officers came and took them to the town government building. They were released after a 4-day hunger strike.
In July 2000, town government officer Qiao Jinxiang and an assistant went to Ma Yongming's home, asking them to promise to no longer go to Beijing. Their normal life was continually disturbed like this.
On December 25, 2000, Village Officer Wang Wendong and Village Security Officer Guo Fu came to Ma Yongming's home again after 10 a.m., and asked him to write the "Three Statements," renouncing Falun Dafa.
On December 27, 2000, Town Government Officer Qiao Jinxiang went to Ma Yongming's home and threatened him: "I have promised that you will not go to Beijing, so you do not need to report to the Town Government for the time being."
In March 2001, Town Government officials forced Ma Yongming to go to Dawangguzhuang Town for brainwashing. Yongming was persecuted there.
One day around July 25, 2001, seven or eight policemen (surnamed Liu, Wu, Zhen etc.) came to Ma Yongming's home and searched recklessly. At that time, Ma Yongming was not at home, so his wife asked the policemen: "How can you just come into my house and search? Do you have the permit to search?" Wu said, "No." With those words, the police took her to the police station, and confiscated one copy of Zhuan Falun and one copy of Essentials for Further Advancement.
After they took Ma Yongming's wife to the police station, they searched Ma Yongming's house again. As soon as Ma Yongming returned home after laboring in the field, he was taken to the police station and illegally interrogated. Police station director Liu Wenge (now transferred to another post) and 7 or 8 other policemen took turns to shock his face, chest, and back with electric batons. After 3 p.m., Ma Yongming and his wife were illegally sent to Wuqing District Detention Center, where Ma Yongming suffered more brutal torture. The police detained them for 15 days and forced them to pay a fine of 450 Yuan before releasing them.
Several days later, Township Government officers surnamed Liu and Qiao, as well as one police officer named Liu went to Ma Yongming's home again and again, asking the couple to go to the township government to watch videos defaming Dafa. The couple refused. In this way, Ma Yongming suffered tremendously from the continuous persecutions.
On November 20, 2001, Baigutun Town 610 Office's new director Wang Jincai (female), Dai Xiaoqiao, another township government officer, as well as a police officer surnamed Liu went to Ma Yongming's home again, and asked him to write the "Three Statements." They even said, "We have received orders. If you do not write [the "Three Statements"], you will first be detained for 7 days in the township government office, then 15 days at the detention center, then sentenced to two and a half years in a labor camp." With the repeated persecution, Ma Yongming suffered enormously both mentally and physically, and it finally exceeded his capacity to endure. After 4 p.m. on November 25, 2001, he hanged himself and died. He was 40 years old.
The police and the township government officials were scared by this. The next day, a policeman named Liu went to practitioner Wu's home (also in the same village as Ma Yongming) and said, "You killed Ma Yongming." This practitioner pointed out the lie on the site. Later, the policeman went to Baigutun Village Electrical Milling Room and spread lies: "Ma Yongming did something bad. That is why he died." Practitioners in Baigutun Village told people on site the truth about how Ma Yongming was persecuted to death.
Because Ma Yongming was persecuted to death, his father (more than 70 years old) could not bear this enormous blow and died within two years. A happy and harmonious family was persecuted so severely that only a 15-year old daughter and her mother are left living together today.
Even under such a situation, the authorities still go to this family from time to time to harass them. The daughter carries a severe mental burden.

(Clearwisdom.net) Suining City, Sichuan Province practitioner Mr. Xiao Zhilin became mentally unstable after being taken to a brainwashing center and mistreated. He passed away on November 13, 2004 as a result of the persecution.
Mr. Xiao Zhilin (50 years old) was a resident of Tiangong Temple subdivision, Chuanshan district, Suining City, Sichuan Province. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1996 and went to Beijing twice to appeal for Falun Gong.
On February 7, 2000, Mr. Xiao Zhilin went to Beijing and after one week Chuanshan Police Station personnel took him back to his hometown. The police then transferred him to Wujiawan Jail and detained him for 15 days. Mr. Xiao was then taken to Suilongping Brainwashing Center and the persecution there caused him severe physical damage. In July 2000, he returned to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was sent to a forced labor camp for one year.
In November 2003, Mr. Xiao Zhilin was deceived and taken to a brainwashing center again. He was persecuted until he eventually became very feeble and mentally collapsed. On November 13, 2004, Mr. Xiao passed away as a result of the persecution he suffered.
(Clearwisdom.net) On December 27, 2004, the Voice of Germany issued a report entitled, "China Fervor Has Reached the Stage of Ignoring Profit." It says German Banking analysts have found that many companies are starting to doubt that the risk/return ratios justify sustaining investments in China. When asked, most German companies refused to disclose the amounts of the profits generated by their business ventures in China. Companies based in other countries also avoid this question.
In 2003, according to research by the independent Chinese Economic Quarterly magazine,
U.S. companies in China earned a total of $4.4 billion. By comparison, Australia, with a population of only 19 million people, earned $7.1 billion, Taiwan and South Korea together earned $8.9 billion and Mexico earned $14.3 billion.
On December 18, 2004, in the article, "Local Governments Hope the Unified Income Tax Policy for Foreign Owned Companies Will Be Shelved," the Chinese Financial Times (Cai-Jing-Shi-Bao) newspaper revealed for the first time that about half of China's foreign investment capital had been pulled out of the country. This happened after the U.S. House of Representatives Taxation Committee passed a bill called the Homeland Investment Act. The Act lowered the tax rate of overseas U.S. companies from 30 percent to 5.25 percent for a period of one year, with the condition that the amounts saved be reinvested within the United States. In response to this action, Beijing stopped the execution of their new bill, which would have increased the tax rate of foreign investors to the same as that of Chinese companies.
In an interview with the Chinese Financial Times, officials from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce rejected the view that China has a surplus of foreign capital. They said that the amount of foreign capital invested is demonstrably not excessive, since China has attracted a total of $559.023 billion from non-Chinese sources. Half of those funds have since been withdrawn. At present, there are 504,568 registered foreign-funded companies in China, but less than two-thirds of them are actually operating. One week prior to this Financial Times interview, Huang Hai-An, assistant to the minister of China's Ministry of Commerce, said that the amount of direct foreign capital invested in China has been overestimated. Because statistics on the movement of foreign capital are not kept, the figure for "Cumulative Foreign Capital Invested" is used. The numbers indicate neither the profits of the companies reported on, nor whether any of their funds have been taken out of the country. At the end of 2003, the stocks of China's foreign ventures were valued at about $250 billion, or about half of the cumulative amount invested, which was $501.4 billion for that period.
The ratio of foreign funds to China's fixed assets also showed the same problem. According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce, in 2003, China-based companies actually used $53.5 billion in foreign funds, or 8.3 percent of that year's total capital investment. The corresponding figure for 1994 was 17.08 percent.
On December 18, 2004, Xinhua Net reported that "China's auto industry, because of increases in production without corresponding increases in profit, is on the verge of losing money." In a November 2004 interview with the Worker's Daily, Jiang Yuan, an expert from the Public Transportation Branch of the State Statistical Bureau, said that profits for the entire auto industry have been decreasing, and it is now on the verge of net losses.

1. A letter of appeal written by a criminal prisoner:
"Dear Government Leaders,
Our team leader assigned a few of us a task this month - to help lead in reforming Falun Gong practitioners. We have to try to get them to write a "Guarantee Statement" to renounce their practice, and for those who don't write the statement, we have to work in three shifts to keep them awake and not let them sleep. A few of them have not slept for seven or eight days. We are truly afraid that they might have health problems, so this would be our responsibility.
In fact, those Falun Gong persons are good people! Our conscience makes us feel apologetic, but we are also worried that our leader will not record our merits. Please, government leaders, take control of them! We fear retribution. In fact, one leader is "darker" than another here. They reap big money from the prisoners and demand profits in exchange for inmates' reduction of terms! Prisoners can do nothing but be patient, since the "education" or "reform" is phony! Only money can open the door to walk out of the prison gate. This is the darkest place! Of course there are good men here, too."

2. A letter of appeal letter written by imprisoned Falun Dafa practitioners:
The so-called "Falun Gong Study Class" run by the Beijiao Prison in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, started on December 10, 2004. As in previous years, the police officers and criminal prisoners on the third floor of the "Special Supervised Building"(the building for supervising those cadres of the class of Director of a Division) openly abuse and physically torture Dafa practitioners. They try to force practitioners to renounce their belief in Falun Gong. Police leaders Wang Guobin and Jiao Wei are very evil. The criminal prisoners, with instructions from the police, have not let Dafa practitioners sleep for seven days in a row. People outside the building can often hear the shouting, "Falun Dafa is Great!" Police officer Jiao Wei, a deputy leader, told the prisoners publicly, "You should work hard here! You can cook your meals whenever you want. In case you're caught by the internal supervision team, you can tell them that you cooked for me."
This is the so-called "study class" that has been run in the prison by the Chinese government for five years to reform and "to help-and-teach Falun Gong practitioners." Monitors have recorded the whole process of persecuting Dafa practitioners.

(Clearwisdom.net) The Jiepai Pottery Factory in Hunan Province was previously a Province-owned enterprise. Like most state-owned enterprises, it went bankrupt and closed, which caused Jiepai Town to lose its primary economic support. In the 1990s, Hunan Province planned to select the 100 most advanced towns based on strong industrial and agricultural indices. When investigators came to Jiepai Town, the town's leadership bought tons of rice weed from nearby villages and ordered workers to burn them in each chimney. Seeing the heavy smoke, journalists from the investigation team thought that the industry index of Jiepai Town was among the highest in the province, and they selected Jiepai Town as one of the 100 most advanced towns. Leaders in Jiepai Town were pleased.
On February 16, 2000, the first meeting of the year was held at the factory, and one vice chairman from a certain governmental department led a group of people with cameras to my workplace. The president of my school asked me to make a speech regarding Falun Gong. I said there was nothing I could say, except that I follow the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance." He told me that a speech was written and I simply had to read it. I refused again.
As I rejected his requests, the cameras turned towards me. As I talked, they kept on shooting, but they wanted to change the content of what I said.

Prime Minister Paul Martin probably planned to highlight Canada/China trade and investment on his trip to Beijing next week, rather than human rights controversies.
That will be harder now. Beijing bureaucrats have just forced his hand.
The Chinese Embassy in Ottawa embarrassed Martin just as he was preparing to depart today for a 10-day Asia tour, by revoking visas for two Canadian journalists from New Tang Dynasty TV who were to travel with the PM.
NTD is a Chinese-language satellite TV service, run from New York and other centres. Beijing says it is a "propaganda tool" for the Falun Gong movement, which is banned as a [a slanderous word from Jiang regime and the Chinese Communist Party omitted] in China. NTD Canada president Joe Wang denies that, even though some NTD officials and staff practise Falun Gong, the service is often critical of Beijing, and it gives Falun Gong prominent coverage.
Whatever the truth, Martin rightly bristled at Beijing's brazen meddling with Canadian reporters on a trip not only to China but also to Thailand, Sri Lanka, India and Japan.
Martin had planned to quietly urge President Hu Jintao to give Buddhists, Christians and others more freedom. He now has added reason to do so. Only publicly.
Martin may also want to take up the cases of people and groups who Amnesty International says have been harassed or jailed unfairly. They include an AIDS activist, a lawyer who defended families evicted from their homes, a whistleblower for Christians who faced abuse, a worker's rights lobbyist and other activists.
Beijing's attempt to dictate to Martin which reporters he may have with him invites a firm prime ministerial pushback. It's a reminder that China has a long way to go in truly "opening up" to the wider world.
Canada and China now have $1 trillion invested in each other's economy. Canada will buy $21 billion worth of goods from China this year, and China will buy $7 billion from Canada. This is a healthy commercial relationship worth nurturing.
Beijing's media censorship, religious intolerance and suppression of dissidence betray a contempt for due process and the law that does not enhance our relationship. Nor does China's fear of political pluralism.
These are points Martin must make on his trip. He has good reason.

Two Canadian reporters who were to accompany Canada's Prime Minister Paul Martin on his trip to Asia have had their visas revoked at the last minute by the Chinese embassy in Ottawa. The Canadian government is seeking a reason from senior Chinese officials but say they have yet to receive a satisfactory response.
Both reporters, who work for New Tang Dynasty TV (NTDTV) in Toronto, had already had the visas approved and were intending to pick them up at the Prime Minister's Office when they learned of the retraction. NTDTV is a global not-for-profit network with four reporting locations in Canada and over 50 worldwide. Joe Wang, president of the Canadian arm of NTDTV, said the Prime Minister's Office stated this was the first time that Canadian citizens accompanying the Prime Minister on a trip to China have had their visas revoked.
Wang said, "The issue is about freedom of the press, NTDTV is one of few Chinese overseas media that have not bowed to pressure by the Communist Chinese Regime and we believe that the Chinese people have the right to the truth on subjects that are relevant to their lives."
Wang also stated that the two journalists, Danielle Zhu and David Ren, are both Canadian citizens of Chinese descent. He said that the Chinese government opposes NTDTV's coverage of relevant issues of concern to the Chinese community such as human rights issues including the persecution of Falun Gong, Article 23, and in-depth reporting on SARS. "Our news coverage is what distinguishes us from other Chinese media and it is our strength. We are providing to our viewers exactly what they want," stated Wang.
Prime Minister Paul Martin spoke out on Friday. "This is a very serious issue. In this country, we believe fully in freedom of the press," Mr. Martin, was quoted in a Toronto Globe and Mail report, shortly before departing on his Asia trip.
"We continue to ask the government that the visas be accepted and these journalists be allowed to accompany us on the visit," he said.
Tanya Churmuch of the press freedom watchdog Reporters Without Borders says the retraction of the visas is "truly an unacceptable situation."
Reporters Without Borders issued an alert in May 2004 denouncing the Chinese government's continued threats and harassment directed at NTDTV in an effort to shut it down. New Skies Satellite recently ended its contract with the station following prolonged financial and political pressure from Beijing. NTDTV has now resumed broadcasting, but the harassment continues NTDTV representatives say. The network produces a variety of general-interest programs in Chinese reaching over 200 million viewers through satellite, cable, and the Internet.
Between 35 and 40 journalists will accompany the Prime Minister on this trip, which includes visits to India, Japan, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Thailand and China. The stop in China is scheduled for the last two days of the trip.
"The Prime Minister sees that this is a serious issue and he wants the Chinese government to give an explanation for denying the visas," said Wang. He still hopes the journalists can join the Prime Minister's entourage and is confident the Prime Minister's intervention can help to have the visas re-issued.

TORONTO - Prime Minister Paul Martin said Friday the Chinese Embassy has been asked for an explanation after a Toronto television station was denied visas to accompany him on an upcoming trade mission to China.
A reporter and cameraman for New Tang Dynasty Television Canada were granted visas Wednesday, but the Chinese Embassy retracted them Thursday, two days before Martin was set to leave for his trip to Asia. Danielle Zhu and David Ren say the withdrawal of their visas shows how far the Chinese Communist government will go to quash freedom of the press.
"I came to Canada in search for freedom," said Zhu, near tears.
"And now I found that even with a Canadian passport, I'm not enjoying full freedom like I should be . . . because Chinese power has extended to Canada."
New Tang Dynasty Television Canada, an independent Chinese-language broadcaster, has asked Martin to step in and demand the reissuing of the visas.
"This is a very serious issue," Martin said in Ottawa, adding that Zhu and Ren should be allowed to accompany him on his trip.
"We believe fully in freedom of the press. We have asked the Chinese Embassy here in Ottawa for an explanation. Our ambassador in China has asked for an explanation of the government."
Officials of the Chinese Embassy could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.
At a news conference in Toronto, Joe Wang, president of New Tang Dynasty Television Canada, said this wasn't the first time the Chinese government has attempted to stifle the station's reporting.
Wang said the Chinese government has been "harassing" the network, which has stations around the globe, since its North American launch in February 2002 "in an attempt to have its control over Chinese language Media overseas."
PEN Canada, which fights for freedom of expression, criticized the Chinese government's actions Friday and called for an immediate reinstatement of the visas.
"We believe that this action infringes upon the reporters' and NTDTV's right to report freely," said PEN Canada president Haroon Siddiqui in a statement.
Wang told reporters that the government has unjustly labelled the network, which features news, entertainment, sports, business and children's programming, as "Falun Gong media."
"I can tell you now that NTDTV is an independent media," he said.
"It's not a Falun Gong media, but we're not shying away from reporting on these issues, and we do have volunteers that are Falun Gong practitioners."
Zhu and Ren are both Falun Gong members, but say that doesn't justify the withdrawal of their visas.
Falun Gong gained wide exposure in China in the early 1990s, and within a few years it had up to 60 million practitioners, rivalling membership in China's Communist party.
In 1999, former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin ordered an official ban on the practice, which includes exercise and meditation.
Martin departs for his trip to China early Saturday, with stops in Thailand, Sri Lanka, India and Japan.
It will be Martin's first official visit to Beijing as prime minister.

Clarifying the Truth in Manhattan
With the help of fellow practitioners, I was able to clarify the truth in Manhattan. During the 8 days of my visit, fellow practitioners and I exposed the persecution of Falun Gong in the streets of Manhattan and distributed truth-clarifying materials at subway stations. We walked through roads and streets one after another. We wore a persecution information board on the front and carried a banner that read, "Falun Dafa is Great" on our back while walking through the crowd. I gave truth-clarifying materials to the pedestrians passing by. When they heard me say, "Falun Dafa is good," the westerners would take the truth-clarifying materials with a smile on their faces and thank me.
There were two groups of practitioners that clarified the truth in Manhattan. There were two male practitioners who slowly walked along the sidewalk carrying a large persecution information banner. Each day, when I went out to clarify the truth, I would constantly send forth righteous thoughts upon leaving the hotel until our return there. When people refused to take the materials, I would firmly eliminate all the evil factors behind the people. I thought in my heart, "I came for you." I looked at them and said, "Falun Dafa is good" with a smile on my face. Naturally, the people continuously came to take the materials.
Some practitioners distributed materials in the front of the banner carriers, while some followed us to distribute flyers or display the persecution information boards. When there was a crowd, we would stop to let the people watch, and the practitioners who could speak English would explain that Falun Gong is being persecuted in China. When people expressed their sympathy and began to leave, we would give them a handmade lotus flower. They would sincerely thank us. The businesses, taxi drivers and salesman on the streets are all live media. We would give them truth-clarification material and a handmade paper lotus flower. The lotus flowers were attached to bookmarks with the words, "Falun Dafa is good." They are effective in clarifying the truth and spreading the Fa.
When we clarify the truth on the streets, we would meet other Falun Dafa practitioners on the streets and intersections. Several times, I saw practitioners who were participating in the anti-torture exhibit. I saw their wounds too, and although it was makeup, it looked so real. I told myself to be sure to attend an anti-torture exhibit when there is one in Taiwan. I want to expose the cruel persecution that Falun Dafa practitioners suffer in China to the people in the world, and I want to tell people that Falun Dafa is good.
Attending the Pingdong Anti-Torture Exhibit
After I came back to Taiwan, I heard that there was going to be an anti- torture exhibit in our area during an experience-sharing conference. I thought that I could finally volunteer to be one of the torture victims in the exhibit and so I signed up with the practitioner that was coordinating it. During this period, we had intensive Fa-study and discussion each day. We learned how to do the make-up, divided into teams and chose the torture-victim roles. I heard that the binding torture is very hard to endure, and one practitioner had just quit so I chose this role.
We gathered at 8:30 a.m. on the morning of October 30 to study the Fa and send forth righteous thoughts every hour at Pingdong's National Military Hero Museum. After we sent forth righteous thoughts at 9 a.m., the first team started to do the make-up while the second team continued to study Fa and send forth righteous thoughts. I was in the first team and sat down to have the make-up put on me. First, the victim's clothes were cut on the back so I could not see the wounds while I was wearing it. When the make-up on my face and hands were done, I could see myself with the bloody wounds of the unyielding Falun Dafa practitioners who would not give up their belief and had suffered all sorts of tortures. I immediately envisioned the brutal persecution that practitioners are suffering in China and I burst into tears.
At 1:20 p.m., as the first team went out to the field on Coconut Road of Zhongshan Park escorted by practitioners who were acting as the police, my heart was very heavy. I was sending forth righteous thoughts to eliminate all the evil factors that interfered with the anti-torture exhibit. After 20 minutes, it was my turn to go out. Although, I could not look around, as I was a torture victim, I knew this anti-torture exhibit was very successful from the waves of people passing by and the many voices I heard seeking the truth. I also heard people comment that there should be more anti-torture exhibits to let more people know. Some people even asked about the second exhibit in anticipation.
When the sun went down, it became dark and the crowd left. The 4-hour torture exhibit was a success. When helping practitioners to take off their make-up, I saw their hands covered with blood. I could not control my tears again and fellow practitioners cried too. The anti-torture exhibit left many impressions on us. It gave a great opportunity for practitioners who participated and those who were less involved in the truth-clarifying work to improve.
The Fa-rectification is moving forward very fast. We should strengthen our efforts in Fa-study, sending forth righteous thoughts and truth-clarification; and to do better in the three things we must do as Falun Dafa practitioners. Therefore, we will not feel unworthy of Master's compassionate salvation.

(Clearwisdom.net) The majority of prisoners in Jilin City Prison are long-term criminals. Because these people do not have the opportunity to contact the outside world, they know nothing about Falun Gong except for the lies spread by Jiang's faction. Thus, since 2002, when Falun Gong practitioners were sent to the prison to be persecuted one after another, the prisoners believed China Central Television's (CCTV) anti-Falun Gong propaganda. At the beginning, their view of Falun Gong practitioners was not rational. They discriminated, limited practitioners' freedom of movement, did not permit practitioners to contact other people, and verbally abused and mocked practitioners as outcasts. Some of them closely followed Jiang Zemin's group and acted as tools to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners. It was initially very difficult to break through this situation. But Dafa practitioners did not give up. We first paid attention to our image and actions: we paid attention to being consistent, we matched our words with deeds, were amiable and spoke to people in a friendly manner, and we did not compete for any personal gain. This manifestation of the goodness of Dafa moved the other prisoners and gradually, it generated favorable impressions in their minds. Then we told them that the practice of Falun Dafa requests us to act this way, gently guiding them to question their earlier misunderstanding of Dafa, and to develop a favorable impression of Dafa. The prisoners then realized that all Dafa practitioners are good people.
Then we talked about our lives and experiences, and let the prisoners know that Falun Dafa practitioners have wisdom and are not ignorant [as has been portrayed by CCTV]. For example, we told them that among Dafa practitioners there are many people who are very well educated. Many of them hold bachelors degrees; some even hold masters degrees and doctorate degrees; some of them are scientists, professors, writers, and officials at all levels. There are more than 120 military generals in our country practicing Falun Dafa. There are 100 million people in our country practicing Falun Dafa. There are practitioners in more than 60 countries worldwide practicing Falun Dafa. Therefore, Falun Dafa does not merely belong to China, but to the world. It is wrong that China bans Falun Gong. We told the prisoners it is Jiang Zemin who is really the one who is anti-humanity and anti-society.
We then told the prisoners the benefits of practicing Falun Gong: Falun Gong is one of the cultivation ways in the Buddha School; it cultivates the mind and body, rectifies the human heart and helps people value self-cultivation and the nurturing of virtues. Dafa practitioners have no interest in fame, fortune, or political power. This explanation eventually eliminated the misleading propaganda from Jiang Zemin's wicked group. We further told the prisoners the consequences of supporting or opposing Falun Dafa, and that whoever helps persecute Falun Dafa will meet his or her retribution.
In the process of breaking through the persecution environment and letting the prisoners know the truth, every step we took was related to Falun Dafa. Based on the prisoners' questions, we clarified the truth and exposed the Jiang regime's true colors: the deceit, the cover-ups, and how they mislead people. One example of this deceit is the Party's account of the April 25 incident (1), which was reported as "Falun Gong practitioners besiege Zhongnanhai." The prisoners came to understand that this was Jiang regime's plot, and its purpose was to build a foundation from which to ban Falun Gong. Concerning the "self-immolation in Tiananmen Square," we explained how this was a staged lie to defame Falun Gong. More terrible was the story from Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Shenyang City, in which 18 female Dafa practitioners were stripped naked and thrown into cells with male prisoners. We explained how Dafa practitioners' family members were also brutally persecuted. In the face of such atrocities, how could Dafa practitioners remain indifferent! We must tell all people the truth about how we are being treated unjustly. The broadcasts by the television about Falun Gong are not true; they are pure fabrication, defamation, and deception. In order to ask for justice we appealed to the government but we were instead arrested and charged with going to Beijing to cause trouble.
We told them how a large number of police were utilized to abduct Falun Dafa practitioners and extort money from them. Falun Dafa practitioners' families have been broken up, yet this was fact was twisted around and used to slander practitioners, saying that the family breakups were a result of practicing Falun Dafa. Because we practitioners have no access to the mainstream media to tell our side of the story, we can only use our own truth-clarification materials to let people know the real story. However, for this we are arrested and sent to jail, and not allowed to hire an attorney.
When the prisoners came to understand that Falun Gong practitioners are good people and are being unjustly persecuted, they in turn told their relatives and friends. As a result, our environment in prison was changed, we were given more space in which to move around, and the limitations imposed on us were reduced. In defiance of the prison authorities, many awakened prisoners secretly carried and passed along Teacher's articles to us. Some also disclosed information of how the authorities were planning to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners in the prison. Now, some prisoners even dare to stand up and speak up for Falun Dafa practitioners. We seize every opportunity to spread Dafa, to awaken all people and to guide them to study Teacher's articles. Especially after Jiang Zemin stepped down, more and more people asked to study Dafa. Their bodies and minds underwent big changes as a result of their study. Formerly bad tempers have become mild, and the physical condition of many prisoners has improved; some of them were able to discard canes and experienced healing. There are also many people in prison who know that Falun Dafa is good, but who dare not study Falun Dafa out of fear of punishment by the prison authorities; but they indicated that they will study after being released (2).
Still, there were some prisoners who deeply believed Jiang Zemin and his gang's anti-Falun Gong propaganda. In order to gain small benefits in the prison system, they stubbornly insisted that the television's lies and propaganda were real. Therefore, when we were clarifying the truth, they would actively interrupt, scold us and say that we were evil. They did not believe the karmic relationship that good deeds and evil deeds meet their just return. One prisoner in particular did not believe that persecuting Falun Dafa would be bad for him, and acted willfully against practitioners. He tried to disrupt the people who had started to practice Falun Dafa, and viciously taunted them. This man was a tuberculosis patient, and he suddenly died within three hours after experiencing chest pains. This event warned all the prisoners. Those who originally did not believe that persecuting Falun Dafa would eliminate them were all shocked, afraid, and reconsidered if their own acts could also result in bad returns. Therefore, they worried that they themselves might end up with chest pains, and requested to go to the hospital to have a check-up or to take medication. More importantly, they indicated to practitioners that they would no longer oppose Falun Dafa. Some people changed their bad behavior, stopped beating and cursing others, and every day they asked Dafa practitioners to give them an evaluation of their behavior.
Notes:
(1) April 25, 1999: On this date ten thousand Falun Gong practitioners peacefully gathered outside the Zhongnanhai compound (China's central government building) and successfully appealed for the release of forty-five practitioners who had been illegally arrested in Tianjin City.
(2) The division of the prison that I was in has more than 500 people. Among them more than 20 people began practicing Falun Dafa. The subdivision of the prison that I was in has more than 130 people; 14 people started practicing Dafa, accounting for about 10% of the population in that area; 10 people indicated that they will study Dafa after being released.
(Clearwisdom.net) Xuanxuan is 5 years old. Her parents and maternal grandparents are all Falun Dafa practitioners who obtained the Fa before 1999. Right after she was born, she started listening to the recordings of Teacher's lecture series.
Xuanxuan enjoys listening to the Fa. She asks to listen to Falun Dafa music as she falls asleep. She was able to recite Lunyu and many poems in Hongyin by the age of three. She also started to learn Chinese characters at such a young age.
Xuanxuan is very intelligent. After she turned three, she started to read the entire book of Zhuan Falun. The first time she read the book, her mother read together with her. If there were characters she did not recognize, she would remember them after her mother explained the words a few times. After she read the entire book once, she was able to read together with the grown-ups. When adults were taking turns reading one paragraph at a time, she would participate and read very attentively too.
Due to the persecution, her entire family became homeless. Her father was sent to a forced labor camp. In order to arrest the rest of her family members, the police formed a special task force. Prior to the meetings of the National People's Congress and the National People's Political Consultative Conference in 2001, the police arrived in the city where they were staying and conducted a two-month search.
One day the officers showed up at one of their friend's home. At the time, Xuanxuan's grandparents were not there and her mother was in the back room. The police saw Xuanxuan in the living room and asked, "How old are you? What's your name?" Xuanxuan did not reply. Her youngest aunt told her to go to another room and she did. She followed her mother's signal to pull her backpack inward a little to avoid being searched. Her mother then signaled her to sit down and send forth righteous thoughts together, and she did until the police were gone. Twenty minutes later, the officers came back and took the head of the household to the police station for questioning. By then, with Teacher's protection and the help of friends, Xuanxuan and her mother had already moved to a safe place and also were joined by her grandparents. Later when asked why she did not answer the police officer's question, Xuanxuan said, "They are evil. I won't talk to them."
Someone informed the authorities when Xuanxuan's grandmother was clarifying the truth to the public so the police discovered where they were staying. Soon the house was swarming with police. Xuanxuan was not yet five years old. She asked the officers, "My grandmother is a good person. She did not do anything wrong. Why are you arresting her?" One officer pretended to be kind and said, "We are not arresting her. We are letting you all go back home. Come with us, I will buy you some candy." Xuanxuan said, "I won't take candy from you." The three adults were taken away and Xuanxuan was left to live with the relatives.
After her parents and her grandmother were taken into custody, the police started to ransack the house. Xuanxuan was not intimidated. She used her wisdom to save an electronic version of the Falun Dafa books.
When living with her relatives, she did not cry or complain. She only cried when she was asked whether she missed her mother. She said that she had three things on her mind: To rescue her mother and grandparents, to rescue her father, and that she also missed Teacher.
Xuanxuan and her family went through many tribulations. She slowly became more mature and also knew how to offer salvation to people. When playing with other children, she taught them to write "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" and told them to remember that, "Falun Dafa is good."

(Clearwisdom.net) A "solemn declaration" is a person's public statement declaring to the world that whatever he or she has done or said under duress or deception that was against Falun Dafa is null and void. Most of these statements have come from Falun Dafa practitioners in China who wished to express regret that, in the face of physical torture and brainwashing, they had signed documents renouncing Dafa and guaranteeing not to practice again. Also, as more and more people in China learn the truth about how they have been deceived and lied to by the Jiang regime, many non-practitioners are also submitting "solemn declarations."
Here are some examples of the Solemn Declarations:
