News From China
Dafa disciples as a whole have passed the stage of personal cultivation. At present, because the enormous current of Fa-rectification is charging forward, the stage of Dafa disciples' validating the Fa is approaching completion and history is about to enter a new phase. From now on, the Dafa disciples in China as much as anyone, both new students and veterans alike, should let go of their long-standing human attachments and start to seize the day and comprehensively save the world's people. Once the current time period is over, the first large-scale process of weeding out sentient beings will begin. For a Fa-rectification period Dafa disciple, personal liberation is not the goal of cultivation: when you came, saving sentient beings was your great aspiration, and that is the responsibility and mission history has bestowed upon you in Fa-rectification. Thus great numbers of beings are to be saved by you. Dafa disciples, don't forsake the magnificent responsibility that has been bestowed upon you in Fa-rectification, and even less should you disappoint those beings, as you are now their only hope for entering the future. For this reason, all Dafa disciples, students both new and veteran, should get to work and begin comprehensively clarifying the truth. This is especially so for the Dafa disciples in Mainland China: each must come out and clarify the truth, bringing it to every field and valley, mountain and hill, not omitting a single area where there are people. And as for people who want to learn the practice after you clarify the truth, you should arrange for them to study the Fa and learn the exercises as soon as possible. They are the next group of disciples who will cultivate.
When you clarify the truth, you need to make Fa-study a priority. And stop reading and passing around those fake scriptures made by rotten demons who disrupt the Fa and that are spread by evil taking advantage of students who have studied the Fa poorly and harbor strong human attachments. Keep up your righteous thoughts and righteous actions, keep a clear head, and rationally and comprehensively save the world's people.

World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong
January 10, 2004
Overview
Since the Jiang Zemin regime began persecuting Falun Gong in July 1999, the Chinese media has launched a propaganda campaign to slander Falun Gong, incite hatred, and deceive the Chinese people. Typically, the most influential propaganda reports are first published or broadcast on top-level national media, including China Central Television (CCTV), Xinhua News Agency, Chinese Daily, Chinese News Agency, Guangming Daily, Liberation Army News, and Chinese Youth News. The falsifications are then republished or rebroadcast in all local media. The defamatory propaganda disseminated by the State-run media is the cornerstone of the persecution. Deceptive propaganda, coupled with coercion and incentives, enable the regime to engage all levels of society in accepting or even directly participating in the persecution.
At the beginning of the persecution, Jiang's regime established the "610 Office" (an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Communist Party and all other political and judiciary systems) and its propaganda machinery. Liu Yunshan heads the 610 Office. Liu is also the committee member of the Central Political Bureau, the secretary of the Central Secretary Office, and the director of the Chinese Propaganda Department. Li Dongsheng, the deputy director of the central 610 Office, is the deputy assistant in the team (1). As a crucial member of the 610 Office, Li is also the deputy director of the Central Chinese TV station and the secretary of the Party Committee. He bears responsibility for CCTV's systematic lies to defame Falun Gong. The main goal of Li's propaganda team is to direct the resources of the State media towards defaming Falun Gong and promoting the systematic persecution.
The news media controlled by Jiang's regime serves as the Party's mouthpiece. During the "Sixty Minutes" interview with Wallace on CBS, Jiang admitted, "Media should be the Party's voice." This comment was later edited out of the Chinese version of the interview that was aired by the Chinese government. Jiang also said that the news media must follow "the will and interest of the Party and its people and should serve as the guide of public opinion."
On January 2, 1996, in his address to high-ranking officials of the Liberation Army News, Jiang said, "Our well-operated news media can be a powerful tool in echoing and implementing our Party's policy, principles and mission," and "All Party newspapers, journals, national news agencies, broadcasting stations and TV stations must actively propagandize the Party's position in order to play a major role in guiding public opinions." Jiang further said, "All levels of the Party Committee should frequently discuss the work of the news media. For example, the propaganda policy highlights and the effect of propaganda, etc. must be discussed periodically in Party Committee meetings. The comrade in charge needs to inquire about the news propaganda in person." (2) Under the control of Jiang's regime, the Chinese news media have no credibility. They merely serve as tools to deceive people and to carry out Jiang's policy of eradicating Falun Gong.
On July 23,1999, a China Daily editorial article entitled "Enhance Your Understanding and Realize the Danger; Hold on to the Policy and Maintain Stability" falsely claimed that Falun Gong promotes doomsday theories about the earth exploding, etc. The Xinhua News Agency broadcast the TV series "Spring Breeze Will Bring You Back," with CCTV's news highlights: "Awaken -- A Story of a Former Falun Gong Practitioner," and "Reborn from Hell -- A Documentary of Wang Bo and Her Parents" in order to mislead the public about Falun Gong and the government's harsh measures against practitioners. Falun Gong books, tapes and audio-visual materials have been prohibited and destroyed. Therefore, the public has no way to know the truth about Falun Gong. The news media has created a rationale for Jiang's campaign to eradicate Falun Gong. As a result, Falun Gong practitioners are illegally detained and have been tortured mentally and physically in order to force them not only to give up their beliefs but also to participate in attacking Falun Gong.
When the propaganda campaign seemed to be losing ground in deceiving people, CCTV and Xinhua News Agency conspired in fabricating grave crimes to frame Falun Gong, such as the staged self-immolation incident in Tiananmen Square, and two alleged murder cases, "the bloody case in Beijing," and the "brutal murders of beggars in Zhejiang province." The purpose was to incite hatred against Falun Gong practitioners to justify an escalation of the persecution.
Many Chinese media agencies have aided Jiang in his campaign against Falun Gong. Many of the journalists in the State-run media agencies appear to have completely lost their professional ethics when they violate the fundamental principle of truth in journalism. As a tool of persecution, the Chinese news media can be compared to the Nazi Propaganda Department in World War II. The media's lies have either directly or indirectly led to the deaths of hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners. Untold numbers, tens or even hundreds of thousands of practitioners, have been detained or forced to flee from their homes. Millions of practitioners and their families have suffered all kinds of losses--loss of freedom of travel, employment, pensions, housing, education, and basic human rights.
Because of the severity of the harm caused by Jiang's propaganda's machine, WOIPFG has carried out a series of investigations on the individuals and work units that have been involved in fabricating lies and inciting hatred.
1. Propaganda Lays the Groundwork for the Persecution
The fabrication of news and the manipulation of public opinion by China's State-controlled media have enabled the persecution to continue and even escalate.
On June 7, 1999, Jiang gave a talk at the Central Politburo meeting about the need to solve the Falun Gong issue. On July 24, the Press and Publication Administration issued the "Notice on Immediate Confiscation and Concealment of Five Books, Including China Falun Gong." This notice banned the four books--Explaining the Principles of Zhuan Falun, Falun Dafa (Lecture in Sydney), Falun Dafa (Lecture in Europe Fa Conference) and Falun Dafa (Lecture at the First Conference in North America), which had been approved by the Press and Publication Administration for publication by Qinhai People's Publishing House of Qinghai Province Press and by the Publication Department only a few days earlier on June 1, 1999.
On July 22, 1999, the Ministry of Civil Affairs announced the decision to ban the Falun Dafa Research Association. The Ministry of Public Security announced that, "According to 'Regulations Regarding Management of Audio and Visual Products,' any audio/visual products promoting Falun Dafa (Falun Gong), ... must be banned. Also, all levels of cultural administrative departments and audio/visual product management departments must immediately search the audio/visual product market and prohibit any groups or individuals from wholesaling, selling, renting or showing any audio/visual products that promote Falun Dafa. Once identified, these products must be confiscated and destroyed immediately, and those found possessing these items must be punished accordingly." On July 28, 1999, CCTV (China Central Television) reported that, "... In the past several days [the government] confiscated Falun Gong books and audio/visual materials, and destroyed them in large quantities. Sources said that the press management department in Tianjin confiscated twenty-two types of Falun Gong books that totaled over 73,000 copies. The Public Security Department in Wuhan destroyed en masse about 130,000 Falun Gong publications, which included 100,000 books and 27,000 audio/visual materials."
Since then, the public has been unable to access authentic Falun Gong material, and thus they are deprived of the right to know the truth about Falun Gong. The central propaganda agencies and media started to defame Falun Gong by quoting out of context from the books and spreading lies.
1.1 Quoting out of Context and Sheer Fabrication
On July 23, 1999, a People's Daily (Chinese Communist Party's official newspaper) editorial entitled "Improve Your Understanding, Discern Harmfulness, Implement Policies, and Protect Stability," claimed that Falun Gong "preaches that the Earth will explode and doomsday is coming." However, Mr. Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong stated in his 1998 lecture in the U.S., "I can proclaim here to everyone in all earnestness that all of those alleged catastrophes on earth, the doom of the universe, and things of this sort in the year 1999 are absolutely nonexistent." (3)
CCTV broadcast a press conference for foreign reporters hosted by the State Council's Bureau of Religious Affairs and played a video recording alleged to be a lecture by Mr. Li Hongzhi. CCTV had edited the tape by cutting out the "non" from "and things of this sort in the year 1999 are absolutely nonexistent." Editors then recombined the sentence with some other sentences that were also out of the context. In this way, they turned the lecture into "preaching about the explosion of the Earth," thus changing Mr. Li Hongzhi's lecture to make it appear to state the opposite of the original. The "doomsday allegation" is also a distortion of a reference in Falun Gong books to our present time as the "Dharma-ending period," a term first used by Sakymuni. Many other fabrications found in China's propaganda similarly take words out of context and reconstruct recorded statements.
1.2 Using Rumors and False Witnesses
On July 28, 1999, a reporter from Xinhua agency started a rumor to discredit Mr. Li Hongzhi by publishing an article called "Pan Yufang Testifies That Li Hongzhi Lied about His Birthday." This article claimed that, "eighty-year-old Pan Yufang still has a very fresh memory. According to Pan Yufang, in the summer of 1952, when she was thirty-three years old, she was invited to Gongzhuling, Huaide County, Jilin Province to deliver a baby for Lu Shuzhen. Because of labor complications, Lu Shuzhen was in a lot of pain, so Pan Yufang had to inject Oxytocin (pitocin) to induce the birth. When the baby came out, his whole body was purple. This baby was Li Hongzhi." However, according to Columbia Encyclopedia (Columbia University, the 5th edition, 1993), the molecular structure of Oxytocin was found in 1953, and it was also in 1953 that scientists first synthesized it in the laboratory. Its use in hospitals did not occur until after 1953.
1.3 Falsely Attributing Crimes to Falun Gong
The Chinese media exploits crimes to make false accusations against Falun Gong. For example, on December 29, 1999, the CCTV nightly news and the program "Focal Point Interview" reported on the "Zou Gang murder case." Zou Gang, thirty-nine years old, was an employee in the Seed Station of Songhuajing City Forest Management Branch of the Forest Industrial Bureau in Heilongjiang province. Since he was a child, Zou Gang had suffered some abnormal mental symptoms such as hearing noises, hallucinating and experiencing paranoia. The day before he committed a murder, his relatives had called the Harbin Mental Hospital to discuss his unstable situation with the doctors (5). According to a prison inmate jailed with Zou Gang, the CCTV "Focal Point Interview" reporters promised Zou Gang that he would not be sentenced to death if he cooperated with them by saying that he committed murder as a result of practicing Falun Gong. After he complied and made the false claim, however, he was still sentenced to death, undoubtedly to keep the arrangement secret. "The Report on the Criminal Case of 'Self-called' Falun Gong Practitioner -- Zou Gang," published in The Inner Reference in Heilongjiang Province, Issue II, Jan. 22, 2000, pointed out that reporters had investigated Zou Gang's case with the Police Department and other relevant departments, and had found that there was no evidence that he was a Falun Gong practitioner except his own claim. According to the main book of Falun Gong, Zhuan Falun (Chapter 7, section 1), Falun Gong's teachings prohibit killing: "The issue of killing is very sensitive. For practitioners, we have set the strict requirement that they cannot kill lives." However, in spite of the fact that Falun Gong teachings are explicitly against killing, the government used the media to attack Falun Gong by circulating rumors that Falun Gong practitioners had committed some widely publicized murders as well as self inflicted injuries. The purpose was to incite hatred against Falun Gong.
2. Covering up the Persecution
The Jiang regime's suppression of Falun Gong, initiated in July 1999, violates the constitution as well as the International Human Rights Treaty. Since that time, more than 100,000 Falun Gong practitioners have been illegally detained in hundreds of forced labor camps in China. (8) Jiang issued secret orders to "defame their reputations, bankrupt them financially, and destroy them physically." The detention centers, forced labor camps and prisons in China have adopted brutal methods to persecute Falun Gong practitioners in order to force them renounce their beliefs and even participate in the persecution. The methods of torture include: extended sleep deprivation, extensive use of multiple high voltage electric batons, the dungeon, the water dungeon, the "dead person's bed," sitting planks, painful and life-threatening force-feedings, and "strait jackets." To date, at least 869 Falun Gong practitioners are known to have been tortured to death (9). However, the state media in China not only cover up the brutality of the persecution, they are also paint a false picture of labor camps and detention centers.
For example, a comparison of the following two pictures reveals the effects of the torture Falun Gong practitioner Wu Lingxia experienced at Jiamusi Forced Labor Camp in Heilongjiang Province. Wu Lingxia, thirty-seven years old, was from Shuangyashan city, Heilongjiang Province. She was seized by police while visiting a fellow practitioner in May of 2001 and was sent to Shuangyashan Detention Center. After being illegally detained there for one month, she was transferred to Xigemu Labor Camp in Jiamusi City on July 2, 2001. She passed away on July 27, 2002 as a result of the injuries caused by prolonged torture.
Wu Lingxia's picture shows the effects of the torture she received in Jiamusi Labor Camp: cirrhosis of the liver and ascites [abnormal buildup of fluid in the abdomen] as well as festered lower limbs.
2.1 CCTV, China's State-run TV Station, Fabricates News
Professor Zhang Kunlun, a renowned sculptor currently residing in Canada, was seized three times for practicing Falun Gong when he lived in Shandong Province, China. Professor Zhang reported, "Several policemen pressed me onto the ground all of a sudden and kicked and hit me violently. Before torturing me, the head of the police station claimed, 'The highest leader, President Jiang, declared, 'It does not matter how badly you torture Falun Gong practitioners. If they die, just bury them and say they committed suicide for dread of punishment for their crimes.' Then they shocked me with electric batons all over my body and two policemen shocked me at the same time... It was so painful, and I was not allowed to shout. They would jab the electric baton into my mouth if I shouted..."
Professor Zhang was rescued as a result of the efforts of private citizens and the Canadian government. He returned to Canada and exposed the fabrications of a CCTV program, which had broadcast a video-clip of professor Zhang painting and watching others playing Chinese chess. The footage painted a rosy picture of prison life in China. Professor Zhang described how the scene was fabricated: " In reality they are making a show! At that time, a commissar said that a person who teaches painting hoped that I could provide him some guidance. They put out papers, pen and ink and insisted on my instruction. I did not know it was a trap and said to them, 'Let me draw a bit and let you see.' They video recorded the moment when I was drawing. I only realized this after seeing the TV program. Regarding the scenes they broadcast of prisoners playing chess, these types of fabrications are what make it hard for people to know the severity of China's labor camp system. On the day they recorded the video, they brought chess and poker and let everyone play together. They asked me to play, but I replied that I did not know how to play poker and did not understand chess either. They said to me: 'Just sit here and take a look if you do not know how to play.' As they were talking, they pressed me onto to the chair with force, and video recorded the moment when I sat down. All of the scenes on TV are just a scam!" (10)
The same thing also happened to Zhao Ming, who had been studying in Ireland. Zhao Ming was detained in 2000 when he went back to China to appeal. He suffered many kinds of torture in Beijing's Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp. He reported, "In the forced labor camp, everyday is a fierce battle. The police instigated many criminals to beat me together. I was abused physically, not allowed to sleep and shocked by a group of policemen surrounding me and using electric batons. They first threatened me and asked me to 'transform.' After I firmly refused, they began to tie me onto a bed board (to prevent my body from moving during the electric shocking). They tied my feet, legs, upper body, and arms respectively, with a cord through my mouth to tie my head. After they tied me onto the bed board, they again threatened me and asked me to 'transform.' After I refused again, they brought a bundle of electric batons and began to distribute them. The electric batons are over fifty centimeters long. Other than the two electrodes on the top, the whole electric baton is covered with spiral metal, if this part is used, the electric shock can cover a long range. They used at least six electric batons to shock all over my body." (11)
In the second half of 2001, CCTV reporter Li Yuqiang, who has made several TV programs slandering Falun Gong, went to Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp where he interviewed Zhao Ming for a whole afternoon. Zhao Ming described the experience, "They appear to highly support Falun Gong and asked me when I began to cultivate, what experiences and benefits I have from practicing Falun Gong. Then, I told all my experiences about how I benefited both physically and mentally during the cultivation of Falun Dafa and my understanding of Dafa principles from the perspective of science. Ostensibly, it looked like a pleasant interview that could only possibly happen before 1999." (11)
Zhao Ming was rescued by the efforts of the Irish government and private citizens. When he returned to Ireland and saw the shots of this interview in an anti-Falun Gong VCD produced by CCTV, he commented, "I found that it was the shots of this interview, but they had manipulated the context of my words and added voiceover. It was totally opposite of what I said, and they used this to attack Falun Gong. In fact, they spent so much effort putting on an act to steal some words from me and try to obliterate the fact that I had been tortured."
In a report entitled "There is Nothing the Spring Breeze Can Not Bring Back," Xinhua News Agency reporters Li Shanyuan, Yu Li, and Zhang Feifei characterized the cruel tortures of Falun Gong practitioners as the "meticulous care of policemen." They depicted the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, which is notoriously cruel in its abuse of Falun Gong practitioners, as the "cradle of educational transformation, teacher of rebuilding the soul." These media spokesmen misrepresented the brainwashing of Falun Gong practitioners as "transformation" and "rescue," thus seriously distorting the facts and misleading the public. (12) Because the State-run media made such fabrications and hid the truth, most Chinese people do not know that Falun Gong practitioners are cruelly persecuted and that many have even lost their lives for not giving up their beliefs.
2.2 The Persecution Breaks up Families -- The Story of Wang Bo's Family
On April 7 and 8, 2002, CCTV's "Focus Topic" program entitled "From Destruction to Rebirth --Wang Bo and her Father and Mother" (13) and Xinhua News Agency's report entitled "Life --Music--Rebirth --Former Falun Gong Practitioner Wang Bo's Life Story" (14) distorted the facts to blame Falun Gong for the breakup of the family when the breakup was actually caused by the persecution. Wang Bo's parents were separated from the rest of the family when they were illegally detained in a forced labor camp.
Wang Bo described how she was brainwashed: "It was extremely painful in the forced labor camp. There was no personal freedom at all.... They detained me in the Beijing Xin'an Forced Labor Camp. They did not allow me to sleep at all for twenty-four hours a day for six continuous days. They indoctrinated me with lies that reverse right and wrong, and forced me to watch tapes that distort Falun Gong. They forcibly brainwashed me."
In the words of the policemen there, "We just use the kind of means that we use to deal with spies to make you collapse mentally." (15) Wang Bo was forcibly "transformed" when she was tortured to the point of mental collapse. They forced Wang Bo to give up Falun Gong. She told her father, "Father, do you know how I live these days? After being transformed, my mind is full of conflicts. I am mentally depressed and feel life is bitterer than death. Sometimes I feel I am like a person who is over sixty years old. I have already died mentally several times...."
Wang Bo's father Wang Zhongxin described how he was also forcibly "transformed": "I wasn't allowed to sleep for days. Under the deceit of all kinds of lies that quote out of context and perpetrate fraud and tapes that slander Falun Gong, and also the mental torture of not allowing me sleep for many days, I became muddled and mentally disturbed and was so-called 'transformed.' But this was absolutely against my will." (15)
Wang Xinzhong described how the CCTV "Focus Topic" program fabricated its story: "When I saw the program broadcast by "Focus Topic," I was shocked by such contemptible blame of Falun Gong, distortion, slander and fabrication. During my talk with the CCTV reporter, I talked about our family's cultivation and how people from the 610 Office had beaten me in my workplace," but these were deleted. They deceitfully substituted one thing for another, made important deletions to change my talk, purposefully giving the program content that has a totally different direction in order to defame cultivators and viciously attack Dafa. A reporter said, 'Some content cannot be reported. It is the need of politics.'" (15)
What is the true story of the Wang family's experience with Falun Gong that CCTV misrepresented in its program? According to Wang Xinzhong, "Before 1996, my wife and I did not have a good relationship, and we planned to get divorced based on agreement after Wang Bo went to high school in 1996. Our family had a crisis. In 1995, Wang Bo stopped learning piano, and my health was not good. I had neurasthenia, myocarditis, gastroenteritis, and my wife had neurasthenia and rotator cuff tendonitis. We often argued over very little things, would not yield to the other person, and our conflicts became extreme. I was prepared to get divorced. In July 1996, my wife began to cultivate Falun Gong, and I found she changed greatly mentally and physically. Even her personality changed from the cultivation, so I changed my view and attitude, and later I began to cultivate too. We did things according to truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, always thought of other people and checked for our own faults whenever there was a conflict. My wife and I communicated with each other, understood each other. Our life once again thrived, and our family became harmonious. All the illnesses disappeared. We threw away the big case that had been used to store medicines for many years and returned to the house that was used to prepare for the divorce. Wang Bo had a happy family." (15)
The story of Wang Bo's "transformation" is only one of many such stories fabricated for propaganda. The media sided with the persecution to shift blame for broken families from the government to Falun Gong practitioners themselves. The media alleged that Falun Gong practitioners "do not care about families," "destroy their families," "have no human nature," etc. They never mentioned that Falun Gong practitioners have benefited physically and mentally from cultivating Falun Gong. The media characterized Falun Gong practitioners' perseverance in reporting the truth as "being stubborn." They reversed right and wrong, good and evil, by presenting the persecution as an effort to save lives. What does it mean to "transform" a person through brainwashing? Kong Fanyun, from the Educational Center of the Legal System told the people who had been transformed, "The time when I see you beat people and curse people is when you are truly and completely transformed." (15)
3. The "Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation" Story -- A Fabrication
Chinese media claimed that, on the afternoon of January 23, 2001, a "self-immolation" took place on Tiananmen Square, Beijing. The Chinese Government's mouthpiece, Xinhua News Agency and CCTV, immediately reported the incident, claiming the five individuals who set themselves on fire were Falun Gong practitioners.?Their quick response was in stark contrast to the way news is usually handled in China, with lower-level officials reporting to superiors until top officials allow the report to be published.?/P>
An act of "self-immolation" would be a serious violation of Falun Gong's principles and teachings, which explicitly state, "For practitioners, we have set the strict requirement that they cannot kill lives."(7) "Therefore, committing suicide is sinful."(16) For this and other reasons, Falun Gong practitioners rejected the charge that practitioners could have participated in the act. Some third party agencies and international media also raised questions regarding Beijing's allegations. Washington Post journalist Philip Pan published an article after he interviewed the neighbors of Liu Chunling, one of the alleged participants who lost her life in the "self-immolation." Pan wrote, "None ever saw her practice Falun Gong." (17)
Reports from Focus Interview on CCTV were even more questionable. Analysis of the "self-immolation" footage broadcast by CCTV showed Liu Chunling was struck by a heavy object immediately before she was knocked to the ground, indicating that she did not die from the fire but was murdered in order to avoid any possible leaks. Her daughter Liu Siying, another alleged participant, died suddenly on March 17 after appearing very lively and being deemed ready to be discharged from the hospital. We can infer that, like her mother, Liu Siying was murdered to prevent her from leaking the truth about the staged event. (18)
1. (Left) Liu Chunling is facing the extinguisher. The fire on her body has
already been put out. At this very moment, an outstretched arm reaching toward
Liu Chunling's head is faintly visible. Liu is struck on the head.
2. (Middle) A heavy object hits Liu Chunling's head and bounces up. Liu is struck so hard that she turns away from the extinguisher as she is knocked to the ground.
3. (Right) Although Wang Jindong appears to have been blackened or burned by the fire, the sprite bottle that was alleged to hold gasoline remains intact between his legs. An officer standing behind Wang Jindong holds a fire blanket but doesn't immediately apply it.
The National Taiwan University Language Laboratory conducted an independent voice analysis of Wang Jindong, whose voice was broadcast in the initial coverage of the "self-immolation" and again in the Focus Interview program on CCTV one year later. Based on voice analysis, the researchers concluded definitively that the "Wang Jindong" who first appeared on the scene of the "self-immolation" was not the same person as the "Wang Jindong" who made his appearance in the Focus Interview one year later. (19)
Li Yuqiang is a senior reporter for CCTV's Focus Interview program. In early 2002, Li Yuqiang visited the brainwashing center known as the "Law Education and Training Center for the Capital of Hebei Province" to interview Wang Bo. During her visit, she talked with Falun Gong practitioners illegally detained there. They brought out the suspicious nature of the CCTV program containing the "self-immolation" scene. Practitioners pointed out the incongruities to her, such as the fact that Wang Jindong seemed to have been severely burned, yet the Sprite bottle of gasoline between his legs appeared to have been untouched by the fire. Confronted with such evidence and their analysis, Li Yuqiang acknowledged that officials had put the Sprite bottle between Wang Jindong's legs after he had been burned and that the scene had been staged. She admitted that the scene had been arranged in an attempt to convince the public that Falun Gong practitioners had committed the "self-immolation." She even admitted that if they had known that people would doubt its authenticity, they would not have filmed the scene. (20)
The International Education Development (IED) office in USA California made an official statement at the United Nations on August 14, 2001: "...The regime points to a supposed self-immolation incident in Tiananmen Square on January 23, 2001 as proof to slander Falun Gong. However, we have obtained a video of that incident that in our view proves that this event was staged by the government."
The alleged "Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation" was the first case that WOIPFG investigated. Please refer to detailed reports from WOIPFG for more information. (18) New Tang Dynasty TV, a non-profit privately owned Chinese language TV station, produced a documentary film entitled "False Fire: China's Tragic New Standard in State Deception." The film won a Certificate of Honorable Mention at the 51st Columbus International Film and Video Festival. The movie "False Fire" systematically analyzed many suspicious details of the "self-immolation" incident. The analysis exposed beyond a doubt that the self-immolation was staged and left the viewer to conclude that the event had been directed by the Chinese government to frame Falun Gong and create a rationale for the persecution.
The "self-immolation" incident occurred a little over one and a half years after the suppression of Falun Gong was launched in July 1999. At the time of the "self-immolation," the Chinese public had started to express disapproval of Jiang's suppression of Falun Gong practitioners, and the campaign to turn public opinion against Falun Gong appeared to be destined for failure. The staged "self-immolation" incident instigated hatred toward Falun Gong practitioners and turned the general public from Falun Gong sympathizers into people who accepted the repression with indifference. Cases of hatred against Falun Gong increased markedly after the widely publicized "self-immolation." Jiang's regime seized the opportunity to intensify the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. According to incomplete statistics, during the first eighteen months of the persecution, officially starting on July 20, 1999 (before the staged "self-immolation" incident), 173 practitioners were persecuted to death. After the "self-immolation" incident, the death toll increased sharply to 869 in the following thirty-six months. (Among these victims, 696 practitioners died from torture after the "self-immolation" incident.)
WOIPFG has conducted a number of investigations of the media and individuals involved in this fabrication. Because all the reports on the "self-immolation" from Xinhua News Agency were unsigned, WOIPFG has investigated the related departments in Xinhua News Agency. The head of Xinhua News Agency Net center, Zhou Xisheng claimed that he himself "was not in charge of this issue." WOIPFG learned from other sources that the Department of Internal Affairs in Xinhua News Agency was responsible for the "self-immolation" reports. The head of the Department of Internal Affairs replied, "I can't help you look for the name of the reporter of concern ...... Xinhua News Agency is not in a position to answer questions related to Falun Gong." Several Focus Interview staff denied their involvement in the production of the "self-immolation" video program. They said they didn't know why their names showed up as video editors, etc. Some CCTV staff members wouldn't admit who they were and denied their phone numbers were CCTV numbers. Yang Taozhou, who was responsible for technical production, admitted that he was engaged in the later-stage production of the "self-immolation" videotape. Several stage staff of Focus Interview told the investigator it was Li Yuqiang who was responsible for the production of all Falun Gong related videotapes from the Focus Interview team. WOIPFG has interviewed Li Yuqiang several times. When the investigator pointed out the suspicious points in CCTV's "self-immolation" video, Li Yuqiang showed fear. She said, " I don't understand what you are talking about. You have to talk to the CCTV General Station first."
4. Using Mental Patients to Accuse Falun Gong of Murder
4.1 The Fu Yibin Murder Case
On December 16, 2001, Xinhua News Agency and two programs of CCTV--News Report and Focus Interview--launched another round of attacks against Falun Gong with a defamatory report entitled "Capital Murder--Fu Yibin Kills His Father and His Wife." This fabricated report escalated the slander and defamation of Falun Gong from alleged suicide to murder. The level of fabrication also intensified from quoting out of the context and reconstructing text to "pure fiction." In Focus Interview, Fu Yibing said, "I killed all of them. When I succeed in my cultivation, my whole family will go to Paradise and live a happy life forever." Such distorted logic--"killing is saving"--can't be found in any Falun Gong books. On the contrary, Falun Gong's main publication Zhuan Falun, states explicitly, "For practitioners, we have set the strict requirement that they cannot kill lives." (7)
As Dr. Vivian Galli, an American psychiatrist, points out, "From a psychiatric point of view, it is very clear that this is a psychiatric case. Assuming that the perpetrator, Fu Yibin, is telling the truth to the reporter, we can conclude that he was psychotic in November 2001 when he killed his father and wife. Sadly, he still seemed to be psychotic during the interview that took place on December 17, 2001. He was not only delusional but he also was having command hallucinations and excessive energy at the time of the killing. He also seemed to have a chronic psychiatric condition." (21)
In the Focus Interview on CCTV, mental patient Fu Yibin appeared to speak with ease, not as one would expect of a prisoner detained for murder.
Ms. Ma Ruijin, who knew one of Fu Yibin's relatives, confirmed that Fu Yibin had a long history of mental disease. Ms. Ma stated, "Actually, Fu Yibin has been insane for several years. One of his relatives lived in the vicinity of Huangsi Street. That relative of his was my colleague. It was around 1993 that his relative told us he often went around without any clothes. His family members were unable to control him, no matter how hard they tried. That is to say, as early as eight years ago, he was already insane." (22)
On December 16, 2001, a Canada-based Chinese TV station, Television broadcast a report of the alleged Fu Yibin murder case made by CCTV. On August 16, 2002, the Canadian Broadcast Standard Council announced a ruling that the report by Television violated the Code of Ethics on news reports as listed in the Canadian Broadcast and TV Regulations and other regulations regarding violent content. Therefore, the report was deemed to be "improper and unjust." (23)
4.2 Alleged Murder by Poisoning Case in Zhejiang Province
An article published on Xinhua Net on July 2, 2003 claimed that the extraordinary June 26 poisoning case had been solved the night before, which would be July 1, and that a Falun Gong practitioner had committed the murder. When WOIPFG inquired on July 3, a member of the Department of Propaganda in Cangnan County, Wenzhou City told the investigators that the case had not been solved. He had not heard that the suspect was a Falun Gong practitioner, and said that more than five hundred policemen were still assigned to investigate this case. [24] On July 14, CCTV's Focal Point Interview reported that seventeen beggars had been poisoned and claimed that the suspect was a Falun Gong follower.
Chen Fuzhao, who was involved in the murder, was a diagnosed psychotic. Chen Fuzhao's father, a medical center in Cangnan County, as well as the local government of Longgang Town, in Cangnan County have all verified this fact. A doctor who knows Chen Fuzhao told a WOIPFG investigator, "Chen Fuzhao has been psychotic for many years." Before the poisoning-murder took place, Chen's father took him to the Neian Mental Hospital for treatment. [25]
However, the Xinhua News Agency and CCTV reports intentionally omitted his history of mental illness and instead attributed Chen Fuzhao's eccentric behavior to Falun Gong. The Xinhua News Agency report of July 14 in particular alleged that Chen Fuzhao committed murder due to his "reversed cultivation" of the Falun Gong principles of Truth-Compassion-Tolerance. However, they did not explain how behavior completely against Truth-Compassion-Tolerance could somehow be connected with Falun Gong. Investigations reveal that the 610 Office was behind the coverage of this murder case. The news reporter who is specially engaged in slandering Falun Gong deliberately ignored Chen Fuzhao's psychotic condition and claimed that his illogical statements were induced by his Falun Gong practice; however, he failed to explain any connection. The report insinuated further that Chen Fuzhao had committed a series of "beggar-murders" out of need because he practiced Falun Gong. Such allegations furthered the government's campaign to slander and persecute Falun Gong. The investigation also discovered that people who knew about the deception were warned to keep silent.
When an investigator from WOIPFG questioned the Zhejiang Branch of Xinhua News Agency about the coverage, the reply was, "We are a government-run news agency, and all of our published articles follow a specific line of rules and regulations." We conduct interviews according to information provided by the government. How we wrote the report and the process of writing it was not up to any individual or the branch. It had to follow the requirements of the department concerned, and it was written with group efforts from many people."
According to factual evidence collected by WOIPFG, it was found that: 1) The Xinhua News Agency and CCTV selected certain media to monopolize news reports. All other media were excluded. 2) The selected media fabricated news reports, including the fact that the undersigned reporter did not even participate in gathering the news. In addition, many alleged witnesses who were quoted in the news reports claimed that they had never been interviewed. 3) The police and the central 610 Office were directly behind this case. Reporters from Xinhua News Agency and people working in the special group selected who would participate in investigating and reporting this case. Recently the reporters have either been promoted or transferred elsewhere. [26]
Similar to the Beijing murder case, another case of a psychotic patient committing murder was also used to frame Falun Gong practitioners. On December 30, 2003, Wenzhou Court, in Zhejiang Province, sentenced Chen Fuzhao to death. This is not only against the law of China and relevant laws of the international community, but is also appears to be an effort to do away with a witness. From the murder of family members in the earlier Fu Yibin case to the group murder of the Chen Fuzhao case, the evidence points to the fact that the Jiang Zemin group has escalated the severity of its libel of Falun Gong. Such propaganda has incited the Chinese public's hatred and fear of Falun Gong practitioners. People have been deceived to the extent that they report on and aid in the arrest of Falun Gong practitioners who try to clarify the truth. Thus the public has been duped into cooperating with the persecution.
5. Falun Gong Practitioners Who Expose Media Lies Receive Harsh Sentences or Death
The constitution of China and various international pacts that the Chinese government has agreed to all state that people have freedom of speech and freedom of belief. However, in the past four years, Falun Gong practitioners have been completely deprived of these rights. Jiang's group has violated the constitution of China and international agreements. The regime has directed all TV stations and other propaganda machinery to slander and frame Falun Gong. In order to allow people to learn the truth about Falun Gong and to expose the persecution, Falun Gong practitioners have resorted to various peaceful means, including tapping into cable TV systems.
On March 5, 2002, several Falun Gong practitioners in Changchun tapped into the cable TV network to broadcast truth clarification videos about Falun Gong, including "Falun Dafa Around the World" and "Self-immolation or Staged Act?" This was considered the first large-scale civil act to break through the one-sided state media propaganda since the Communist Party took power in 1949. Because Jiang's group is terrified of people learning the truth, they sentenced Falun Gong practitioners thought to be involved in the action to heavy prison terms or had them tortured to death. On September 20, 2002, Changchun Intermediate People's Court sentenced fifteen Falun Gong practitioners, including Zhou Runjun, Liu Weiming, Liang Zhenxing, and Liu Chengjun to four to twenty years' imprisonment. During the illegal trial, the judge and court officials showed no concern for the policemen's vicious beating of Falun Gong practitioners. [27]
On March 12, 2002, Liu Haibo died at the hands of the police from Kuancheng Police Station. They had tried to extort a confession from him by torture because he was suspected of providing room and board for Falun Gong practitioners involved in the TV tapping incident. On March 18, 2002, police beat Liu Yi to death in their office at Luyuan Police Station. On March 16, 2002, an unknown Falun Gong practitioner was beaten to death at Jincheng substation under the jurisdiction of the Changchun City Police Department. [27]
Liu Chengjun is unable to sit up in a natural position after suffering horrendous tortures.
Liu Chengjun, a Falun Gong practitioner from Nongan County, Jilin Province, was one of the main participants in the cable TV tapping incident. After twenty-one months of imprisonment and torture, Liu Chengjun died at 4:00 a.m. on December 26, 2003. Witnesses saw blood running out of Liu Chengjun's nostrils, ears, and thighs. At 11:00 a.m. that same day, Jilin Prison gathered many police officers to forcibly cremate Liu Chengjun's body without conducting an autopsy, despite protest from Liu Chengjun's family. During his detention, Liu Chengjun was tortured with various means, including fifty-two days on the Tiger Bench. [27]
6. Individuals and Work Units Involved in Media Fabrication
A small number of people working in the Chinese media didn't truthfully report on the unjust persecution imposed on millions of Chinese citizens. Instead, they made up lies to slander Falun Gong, which deceived the country's media and the people into supporting the persecution. They thereby legitimized the genocide, and became accomplices to the persecution. The following are the main work units and individuals that took part in the media persecution of Falun Gong.
Within the 610 Office, the person in charge of controlling the media is Liu Yunshan, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Party Secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, Minister of the Ministry of Propaganda, and core member of the 610 Office, the one who is mainly in charge of the propaganda machinery for the persecution.
CCTV
The head of CCTV is Zhao Huayong. The deputy head is Li Dongsheng.
Since Jiang's group began the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, CCTV willingly cooperated with the persecution and made numerous TV programs that slandered Falun Gong. Within less than two years, from April 25, 2002 to the end of 2003, as many as 332 Falun Gong-slandering programs aired on the Focal Point Interview, News Program, Science Channel, Parlance Weekly, China Diplomacy Forum, TV Criticism, China Net Media Forum, Life Channel and other TV channels.
The Focal Point Interview group of CCTV
The Focal Point Interview group has broadcast a series of cases that viciously slandered Falun Gong, including "Tiananmen Self-immolation," "Murder Case in Beijing," "Zhejiang Beggar Poisoning-murder" and has played an extremely negative role in inciting hatred (see attachment 1). On August 21, 2003, Ji Bingxuan, deputy head of the Propaganda Ministry stated in Focal Point Interview, series 1, "On important propaganda issues such as exposing and criticizing Falun Gong, Focal Point Interview has always been in the forefront of news propaganda and has received great attention from the Party and the government. We can say the Focal Point Interview has achieved the unison of news and propaganda work in both keeping direction and improving the guidance level, and has become a leading banner for news commentary programs."
Reporter Li Yuqiang, who never shows her face and has specialized in slandering Falun Gong.
Main persons in charge of the Focal Point Interview:
Editor and reporter: Li Yuqiang took part in making and reporting many Falun Gong-slandering programs, both printed and televised. Among them are the series of programs on "Tiananmen Self-immolation," "Interview with Wang Bo," "Zhejiang Beggar Case," "Interview with Zhao Ming," and others. (WOIPFG will provide special reports on these.) Almost all the slanderous programs on the Focal Point Interview were by Li Yuqiang, who also was the interviewing reporter on the spot in almost all these cases (attachment 1). When WOIPFG inquired of other members of the Focal Point Interview group, they clearly pointed out that Li Yuqiang was the one in charge of Falun Gong programs. Li Yuqiang made slanderous films, such as "The Nature of Evil Cult is Destroying Lives," which is related to the "Tiananmen self-immolation" incident. Li Yuqiang never showed his face on TV during all the interviews. One could only see his dark silhouette, mostly from the back.

WOIPFG investigated the people involved in making these false propaganda programs. When asked why they ignored professional ethics and made up lies, some of these reporters said, "All articles related to Falun Gong were assigned to us. I would never have written [them] myself. As a reporter, the boss at the news agency tells us what to write and what not to write. If he asks me to do an interview, of course I would do it. If he says I can't write something, then I can't write it." Another reporter said, "On this issue, I'm not a natural person, I'm a social person. Please understand. The name I put on the articles for Xinhua News Agency is reporter xxx, not [speaker's own name], so it's different." Thus these reporters for the state-run media betray professional ethics, their sense of justice, and their very consciences. They are in fact helping a tyrant persecute innocent people.
WOIPFG will send the criminal evidence of related work units and individuals who slandered and persecuted Falun Gong to international human rights organizations and file lawsuits against them for their violations of human rights. Regarding the main work units and the individuals mainly responsible for using the media to slander and frame Falun Gong, WOIPFG will document and investigate their cases individually, and will also verify their crimes and deliver the facts and evidence to the international courts, the human rights organizations and foreign governments, to sue them and to expose their crimes in the persecution of Falun Gong.
During the investigation of this case, WOIPFG received help from various sectors, including some persons in charge of the media, and WOIPFG will ask the court to take into consideration the assistance they gave in the investigation. We will not publish the names of individuals and work units who cooperated with or have assisted WOIPFG in its investigation to determine the source of slanders. We will keep in mind their positive actions to rectify their criminal involvement. For those who have missed the opportunity to clarify matters during the investigation, we hope they can contact us as soon as possible to provide us with the facts.

You may have heard about the ongoing massive persecution of Falun Gong in China. Exactly what is happening, and why did the regime under Jiang Zemin unleash its fury against a practice that is so obviously peaceful and non-threatening? We hope we can help shed some light on these questions for you.
What is Falun Gong or Falun Dafa?
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a traditional Chinese spiritual discipline for mind and body. The practice involves slow, gentle movements and meditation. It is easy to learn, enjoyable to practice, and free of charge. Its principles are based on Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance. The practice began in China in 1992 and quickly spread by word of mouth throughout China and then beyond. Falun Gong is practiced by over 100 million people in 60 countries. The main works of Falun Gong are available in over 30 languages.
Who practices Falun Gong, and in what ways do they find it beneficial?
Falun Gong is practiced by people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds. People who practice regularly find it brings them better health, reduced stress, increased level of energy, inner peace, and deepened morals.
I'm interested in trying it out or learning more about it. How can I get started?
All practice sites offer free instruction, and everyone is welcome. To find a site near your home, you can visit http://www.falundafa.org on the Internet, or call 1-877-FALUN-99. All materials are available on-line. There are also instructional books and video tapes available from bookstores, or you can visit http://www.yc-corp.com/ to order them.
Who is Mr. Li Hongzhi?
Mr. Li Hongzhi (family name is Li) introduced the practice of Falun Gong to the general public in China in 1992. He then taught the practice publicly for two years in China, after which the practice continued to grow primarily by word-of-mouth. In keeping with Chinese tradition, Mr. Li is often respectfully referred to as "Master" or "Teacher." He is not accorded special treatment, nor does he accept money or donations from students of Falun Gong. He has ensured that the practice be available to all people, and without any terms or conditions. For his contributions to humanity he has been given over 400 honors and awards, and is a two-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee.
Is Falun Gong a religion?
Falun Gong is a "cultivation practice" with emphasis on both elevating the mind and enhancing physical health. The concept of "cultivation" is not familiar to many Westerners, though in China, there is a strong sense of the concept of cultivation. The term in Chinese is xiu lian. Xiu means to "repair" or "fix." Lian means to "smelt" or "refine." The Chinese character for "lian" looks similar to and has the same pronunciation as the term "to practice [exercises]." This is only a direct translation of the characters that make up the term.
To get a more complete understanding of the concept of cultivation, we can look to China's history. Around 2,500 years ago, the sage Lao Zi (also spelled "Lao Tsu" and "Lao Tzu") appeared in China. Around the same time, Buddha Shakyamuni (also known as Siddartha Gautama) appeared in India. Lao Zi wrote the book Dao De Jing (Tao Te Ching), which was how most of society learned about what he called the "Dao" or the "Way." Shakyamuni spread Buddhism in India for 49 years, which was then passed on to China. These two schools then formed the basis for many spiritual practices in China.
Religions, as understood in Eastern cultures, are also considered forms of cultivation. There is the religion of Buddhism, which has temples, monks, etc., and there are several different sects of Buddhism. The cultivation way of the Buddha school does not end there though, as there are many practices from this school that are not considered part of the Buddhist religion. Often these practices are comprised of simply a teacher and students, but there are no religious formalities, places of worship, etc. These are also considered cultivation ways. The same is true for the Dao school. There is the religion of Daoism, but there are also many Daoist practices that are not considered to be religions in the Eastern way of thinking.
So in China, it is not considered necessary to be religious in order to achieve the goal of raising one's spiritual level, but one does need a cultivation practice. Here in the West, since we don't really have the concept of cultivation, anything spiritual or that has to do with transcending the human world has traditionally fallen under the concept of religion. Falun Gong is no exception.
Why are Jiang Zemin and his followers persecuting Falun Gong?
It must first be understood that the Communist Party is officially atheist, so anything of a spiritual nature is discouraged and often outlawed because it is not in keeping with Communist ideology. For those of us in nations with democratically elected governments, freedom of belief is considered to be one of the most basic universal rights, but in China, such fundamental human rights are rarely protected.
Since its introduction in 1992, the number of Falun Gong practitioners simply grew too large for the liking of a faction of the Party leadership led by the dictator Jiang Zemin. Falun Gong's 70-million-plus practitioners in China far outnumbered Party members. Jiang ordered the persecution out of personal jealousy, and a sense that he could not totally control the people's hearts and minds. Other, smaller groups that the have not been able to be totally controlled, such as Protestants, Roman Catholics, and Tibetan Buddhists have also been persecuted.
How many people have been affected by Jiang Zemin's persecution of Falun Gong?
Since the leader of China, Jiang Zemin, began the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in 1999,hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been illegally arrested and detained. More than 500 have been sentenced to prison terms of up to 18 years. Several thousand Falun Gong practitioners have been forced into mental hospitals, an act condemned by World Psychiatric Association. Over 100,000 have been illegally sent to labor camps without trials. More than 1,000 deaths of Falun Gong practitioners caused by persecution in police custody have been confirmed and more are being uncovered day in, day out, though sources inside the Chinese government have disclosed that the actual number is many times higher.
How has Falun Gong responded to the oppression?
Practitioners of Falun Gong in China have made appeals to the Chinese government via the proper legal channels, and have resisted the persecution with nonviolent public protests. There has not been a single report of responding with violence, destroying property, or the like - despite beatings, torture, jailing, murder, and other grave injustices. Practitioners outside China have taken up long marches, staged sit-ins, launched letter-writing campaigns, staged rallies, held press conferences, documented rights abuses and started lawsuits against the responsible perpetrators for crimes against humanity.
What Can You Do to Help?
The best way you can help is to let people around you know what Falun Gong is and to tell them about the current persecution in China. Write or call your Congressman and City Council members - by raising the public's awareness of the atrocities, you can help to put a stop to them.
What has been the United States' response, and that of the international community?
The US government has been unequivocal in its opposition to China's actions against Falun Gong. In November of 1999 the US House unanimously passed Resolution 218, with the Senate concurring, which condemned Beijing's actions and called for the immediate release of all jailed practitioners. A new, even stronger resolution, HR 188, was introduced in July of 2002. The leaders of both political parties in the US have spoken out and issued statements condemning the persecution. Governments around the world have responded with similar force. Human rights groups such as Freedom House and Amnesty International, in addition to many other organizations have been outspoken in their support for Falun Gong's freedom of belief.
(Clearwisdom.net) In July 1999, an open cruel persecution of tens of millions of Falun Gong practitioners who believe in principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerances began in China...
The genocidal policies used against this group of kind people are:
"Damaging Falun Gong practitioners' reputation, bankrupting them financially and destroying them physically"
"No one will be held responsible if Falun Gong practitioners are beaten to death, just count them as suicide"
"No investigation is needed, just have them cremated."
More than a hundred methods of ruthless torture:
Long period of continuous electric shock with high-voltage electric batons, handcuffing with "wolf teeth cuffs", forced feeding, tying practitioners on the "Dead person's bed", sexual abuse, "pressing bed board", water dungeon, merciless beating, freezing, exposing practitioners under the scorching sun, "Tiger Bench", injecting large quantity of drugs to damage central nerve system, piercing iron nails into practitioners' fingertips, forced abortion, tying a practitioner to the rear of a vehicle and driving the vehicle fast, slave labor, depriving practitioners of sleep for several weeks in a row, electric needle with extremely high intensity and so on and so forth...
Tortures are commonly used against Falun Gong practitioners, especially those who refuse to give up their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance. Even senior citizens, teenage girls and breastfeeding mothers are not able to escape from the tortures.
Electric Shock

A practitioner demonstrating "electric shock" suffered by fellow practitioners in China |
Electric batons are most commonly used by police officers and jail guards in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. They use electric batons that carrying voltages as high as 300,000 volts to shock practitioners' sensitive areas and private parts including: mouth, root of the ear, center of the palms, center of the bottom of the feet, genitals, and breasts. Sometimes they even use several electric batons to simultaneously shock practitioners.

Ms. Gao Rongrong, 36 years old, was a staff member in the financial division of Lu Xun Art College in Shenyang City. She was shocked with electric batons for 7 consecutive hours and her face was seriously disfigured. Now her life is at the verge of death.
Burning Practitioners Bodies With Red Hot Objects
Practitioner's demonstration |
The torture "burning": This torture is extremely cruel. Many practitioners have been burned by police officers or jail guards with cigarettes, which left their faces full of burned black scars. What extremely cruel was that some vicious police officers even deliberately burned young pretty female Falun Gong practitioners to disfigure their faces.
This form of torture includes using cigarette lighters to burn practitioners' faces (even to burn their eyebrows off), their chins, hands, thighs, or private parts.
At other times, specially made iron bars are heated in burning charcoal until they become red-hot. They are then used to burn practitioners' chests and thighs.

Mr. Tan Yongjie, a Falun Gong practitioner from Guangdong Province was tortured and suffered from more than 10 burns on his legs. He fled to the U.S. and is saved from death. Doctors in Houston diagnosed that his13 wounds were 3rd degree burns. The injuries reached deep into the muscles. Even two months later after the torture he suffered, his wounds were still too grisly to look at. Doctors placed a skin graft on the wounds that were too big and too deep to heal themselves.
Force-feeding that Is Devastating in Nature
![]() |
![]() |
Force-feeding is a brutal torture method in the name of humanitarianism, aiming at coercing practitioners who suffer from this torture to give up their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance. Practitioners are force-fed with concentrated salt water, sticky corn syrup, pepper juice and water, Irritant medicine, high-proof liquor, detergent, urine, and excrement, and so on. In order to prevent Falun Gong practitioners from resisting force-feeding, almost all practitioners on hunger strike are tightly tied with different kinds of torture instruments to restrict their bodies' movement. For instances, practitioners are tied with ropes, heavy shackles, or their hands are cuffed from their back, and they wear "Tank hats" on their heads to restrict the movement of their heads.
A Successful Businesswoman Suffered from Brutal Force-feeding

Ms. Wang Yuzhi was a successful businesswoman. Her stubborn illnesses were completely cured from her practice of Falun Gong. Because she refused to give up her practice of Falun Gong and refused to stop clarifying the truth of Falun Gong, she had been illegally imprisoned three times. During her detention at the Wanjia Labor Camp in Heilongjiang Province, she received brutal force-feeding. The cruel torture almost made her lose her eyesight and her life was on the verge of death.
About 100 Falun Gong Practitioners Died from Force-feeding
According to available statistics, about 100 Falun Gong practitioners have died from force-feeding. They are: Xiao Liya, Gu Xiuxian, Liu Xiaoling, Wu Baowang, Liu Guiying, Tan Chengqiang, Guo Meisong, and Kong Deyi from Heilongjiang Province; Han Yuzhu, Wang Xianyou, Han Cuiyuan, Li Shuqin, Jiang Shulan, and Liu Hong from Jilin Province; Liu Xuguo from Shangdong Province; Gao Xianmin from Guangdong Province; Mei Yulan from Beijing; Zhao Dongmei and Li Huiwen from Shanxi Province; and Li Weihong from Shanghai and so on...

"Dead person's bed" is also called "stretching bed". It is used to torture Falun Gong practitioners who are on hunger strike or those who refuse to give up their practice of Falun Gong. When practitioners on hunger strike are tightly tied on the "dead person's bed", their hands and legs are unable to move. Then the jail guards and criminal inmates surround practitioners to force-feed practitioners through their noses. Many practitioners died from this torture.
Yoko Kaneko Had Once Been Tied on "Dead Person's Bed" for Consecutive 20 Days and Endured All Kinds of Inhuman Tortures
Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yoko Kaneko, wife of a Japanese man had been cuffed on a "dead person's bed" for as long as 20 days in a row. Her hands and feet were so tightly cuffed and shackled, that her wrists bled. She was force-fed and was not allowed to use restroom. Instead, a catheter was forcibly inserted into her urethra. When she was released from the bed, she was already on the verge of death. Her entire body felt numb and was unable to move. The skin on her back was festering. The sleep deprivation and forced brainwashing caused her blood pressure to rise and she nearly lost her eyesight.
Sexual Abuse
Torture aiming at female practitioners: Sexual insult |
One of the torture methods against young female practitioners: Press with force their lower part of body. |
The inhuman persecution of female Falun Gong practitioners makes people boil with anger. The vicious police officers use electric batons to shock their breasts, nipples and private parts. They even inserted an electric baton into female practitioners' vaginas, and don't let off unmarried female practitioners. Police officers or jail guards raped and gang raped female practitioners. They stripped off female practitioners' clothes and threw them into male cells. Some practitioners were raped on streets...
Female Falun Gong Practitioners Were Stripped off Naked and Threw into cells with male inmates
In June 2000, at Masanjia Force Labor Camp in Shenyang City, 18 female Falun Gong practitioners were stripped off naked and threw into cells with male inmates.

Pressing Bedboard

A practitioner demonstrating being tightly tied and then put under a bed which is pressed down by heavy objects or by people who sat on it and exerted forces. |
Pressing bedboard is a method of torture used in brainwashing classes and forced labor camps against Falun Gong practitioners who refuse to give up their belief. This method of torture is extremely brutal. Police officers or jail guards first tightly tied a practitioner's feet and legs and tied his/her hands behind the back. Then they tightly tied that practitioner's neck and legs together, which almost choked the practitioner. After that, they shoved the practitioner under a bed and sat on the bed or used forces to press down the bedboard, which forced down on the practitioner's back and could almost crush the practitioner's bones. Long period torture of this kind can severely injure the victim.
|
Mr. Chen Gang who was rescued from China and came to the U.S. is accepting interviews. |
Chen Gang, was the logistic manager at the Carlsberg Brewery in Beijing. He was subjected to the torture of "pressing bedboard". Jail guards ordered more than 10 criminal inmates to beat him, until his face was unrecognizable. After they beat him up, they tied his legs and feet tightly, and his arms were tied behind his back. Then the criminal inmates tied his neck so tightly to his legs that it almost suffocated him. After they tied him up, they shoved him under a wooden bed and had more and more people sit on top to press down his back. He felt his bones close to breaking. After this torture, he couldn't walk for two weeks. Another practitioner Lu Changjun suffered the same torture and became paralyzed.

Water dungeon: Practitioners are stripped off clothes and dunked into dirty water which is as high as the practitioner's chest. Practitioners subjected to this torture are unable to see the sunshine for a long period of time. Police officers or jail guards determine at will how long the torture lasts. In the worst case, practitioners died from the torture. In the less severe case, practitioners' bodies were soaked festered.

A Female University Instructor Was Beaten up Which Caused Her 3 Vertebrae Fractured
Ms. Zhao Xin was a young instructor from the Beijing University of Industry and Commerce. While being detained in the jail (detention center) attached to the Haidian Police Substation in Beijing, she was severely beaten up which caused the fracture of her three neck vertebrae. After six months of suffering from the extreme pain, she died on the evening of December 11, 2000.
Honest and Upright Senior Gentleman Liu Yufeng Was Beaten to Death
Liu Yufeng, male, 64, was a retired worker from Xiaozetou Village of Songcun County, Wendeng, Shandong Province. He was an honest and upright man. He was openhearted and publicly recognized as a good person. After practicing Falun Dafa, his diseased body regained health. He suffered tremendous tortures in the Wendeng Jail (Detention Center) and died from the torture. Autopsy by legal medical experts showed that, extravagated blood was discovered in his right eye-lid. There were cuts and bruises on his face, and black and blue marks left by electric shocks on his throat, chest, and legs. The skin had begun to separate from the body, and the soft tissue below the skin was damaged. It was discovered that the second, third, and forth ribs on both the right and left sides were fractured. The upper one-third of the sternum was broken. His whole body was covered with bruises and injuries.
Young Man Was Beaten to Death
Li Zhongmin, male, 31 years old, was tortured to death on March 3, 2003. When he died, some witnesses saw numerous wounds on his body, with bloodstains on the back of his head and a big area of bruises on his inner thighs. There were many red marks on his backs, and his eye sockets were deeply sunken in. The above photos were taken in May 2001, one week after he was beaten at the Harbin Road Police Substation in Dalian Kaifa District. At that time, his wounds gained some recovering.
Tsinghua University Graduate Was Tortured to Death
Yuan Jiang, 29 years old, graduated from China's most prestigious university, Tsinghua University. He was kind, simple and had brilliant talents. Before he practiced Falun Gong, he suffered various kinds of illnesses. He had once taken one year sick leave from school. After practicing Falun Gong, his physical and mental health dramatically improved. He was the Vice General Manager of the Information Technology Engineering Co., an affiliate to the Telecommunications Bureau in the city of Lanzhou. In September 2001, he was arrested in Dunhuang, Gansu Province and had since been severely tortured for two months. A full truck of torture instruments were used on him. His entire body was covered with wounds and scars and it was too horrible to look at. Later, he passed away.
Freezing and Exposing Practitioners under Scorching Sun
2. Practitioners' demonstration of the torture
Freezing: In winter, in temperatures of minus 20 to minus 30 degrees Celsius, police officers or jail guards forced practitioners to stand outside with only underwear so as to coerce them to give up their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance.
Exposing under Scorching Sun: In hot summer, police officers handcuffed steadfast Falun Gong practitioners outside under the hot sun for a long period of time, which often caused practitioners to faint, left burns on their skin and made them lose body fluids. In some brainwashing classes, in order to cover up what they were doing, the police officers adopted even more malicious way. In midsummer, they locked practitioners in a small airtight room and opened the heat system to its maximum to stifle practitioners for a long period of time.

He was arrested because he used TV network to clarify the truth of Falun Gong to the public. After Liu Chengjun was handcuffed and shackled, police officers shot twice in his legs, which severely injured him. The photo provided by the Chinese News Agency showed that Liu Chengchun who had suffered all kinds of tortures did not have the energy to maintain a natural sitting posture. |
Injecting Drugs Damaging Central Nerve System
In order to force practitioners to renounce their belief, steadfast practitioners who resolutely persist in their belief of Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance are often injected drugs that damage their central nerve systems. Some were thus tortured to become mental abnormal. Some were even tortured to death.
Death Caused By Injecting Large Quantity of Unknown Drugs
Lu Hongfeng, female, 37, was Deputy Principal and Educational
Administration Director of the Lingwu City No. One Elementary School
in Ningxia Province. She was a senior teacher and an excellent teacher
in her district. In a local psychiatric hospital, she suffered various
tortures by means of drugs and died.
Zhang Fangliang, 47, was the Deputy County Magistrate of the
Rongchang County, Chongqing City. He was an honest and incorruptible
official. He was injected with some unknown drugs during his detention
in the Tongliang Jail (Detention Center) and died from torture on July
9, 2002.
Xu Guiqin, 38, was a Falun Gong practitioner from Taian City,
Shangdong Province. During her one-year imprisonment in the Shangdong
Province No. One Forced Labor Camp for Women, she was brutally
tortured. Two days before she was released, because she refused to
give up her belief, she was once again beaten and injected with some
drugs that damaged central nerve system. After she returned home, she
appeared to be mentally abnormal. Nine days later, she passed away.
Zhang Dezhen, 38, was a Falun Gong practitioner from Xie
Village, Jiuzhai Town, Mengyin County and shangdong Province. She was
unlawfully arrested by the Mengyin County's "610 Office" and
local police bureau. Under the situation that she was extremely weak,
she was injected with large quantity of drugs, which caused her death
from heart failure.

In the end of 1994, he started practicing Falun Gong and he fully quickly recovered from all illness. Mr. Ma has been acknowledged as a good person who works hard and conscientiously. He has never been corrupted.
Just because Ma Xuejun firmly upheld his practice of Falun Gong, over the past more than four years, he had twice been unreasonably detained for as long as six months, respectively. He was once sentenced to 3 years in a forced labor camp. He was sent home until his health was in a critical condition after one year and six months imprisonment, during which he had been severely tortured using various means including shocking him with electric batons and electric chairs, hitting his toes with chair legs, kicking him with leather shoes on his lower back and chest, and suffocating him with plastic bags...

Ms. Chen Xingtao, born in 1963, was a Falun Gong practitioner from Xinzhuang Group, Guqiao Village, Yanglin Town, Yueyang City, Hunan Province. In January 2001, she was illegally imprisoned in the Baimalong Female Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou city, Hunan Province. During her imprisonment, she was ruthlessly tortured. As a result, her lower body was paralyzed and numb and she suffered incontinence of the bowel. She was released from the labor camp in May 2001 and after more than one year of suffering, she passed away.
According to available statistics, up to August 29, 2004, at least 1032 Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death.
More than 6000 practitioners have been illegally sentenced to prisons.
Over 100,000 practitioners have been sent to forced labor camps.
Several thousands Falun Gong practitioners have been forcibly held in psychiatric hospitals and injected with drugs that damage their central nerve systems.
Numerous Falun Gong practitioners have been abducted and held in "brainwashing" centers at different places where they are subjected to mental tortures. More people have been beaten, physically punished and even economically extorted.
Tens of Millions of Falun Gong practitioners' family members, colleagues and friends have been implicated and brainwashed to different degrees.
Because Jiang group's tight blockade of information regarding the brutal persecution, large quantity of persecution facts have not been exposed. In addition, some of the tortures are too cruel to be demonstrated by neither paintings nor live re-enactment, therefore, what we exhibit here are only a tiny part of the persecution in terms of depth, scope and severe degrees.

(Clearwisdom.net) Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp was formerly known as Tiantanghe Forced Labor Camp, and before that it was the Xin'an Men's Forced Labor Camp. When Tiantanghe Forced Labor Camp was completely filled with female Falun Gong practitioners and could no longer accommodate more, so it exchanged its facility with Xin'an Men's Forced Labor Camp and later changed its name to Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp. Prior to the persecution, the Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp detained on the average 100 to 200 female inmates. The majority of them were drug addicts and prostitutes. After Jiang Zemin started to openly persecute Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, it became one of the primary facilities in Beijing that detained Falun Gong practitioners as prisoners of conscience. Between July 2000 and April 2001, the number of people detained at Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp jumped from around 100 to nearly 1,000.
In June 2003, China's Ministry of Justice commissioned the production of "Life is Innocent," the very first television propaganda in the form of TV drama to destroy the reputation of Falun Gong. It was a joint production of Fazhi Video Entertainment Center and Xi'an Dingma Video Production Company. "Life is Innocent" was based on completely fabricated stories created to disguise the persecution against illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners in Xin'an Women's Forced Labor Camp in Daxing, Beijing. It contains nothing but lies about Falun Gong and the persecution against Falun Gong. It is the lowest form of a tarnishing campaign designed to instigate Chinese people's hatred against Falun Gong and to justify the persecution.
After learning about the contents of "Life is Innocent," many Falun Gong practitioners who survived the tortures at Xin'an Forced Labor Camp publicized their personal stories as victims of the persecution at Xin'an Forced Labor Camp and pointed out that Jiang Zemin's group was trying to overturn the truth on TV in order to hide their heinous crimes against Falun Gong practitioners. The World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) has already collected the information about the entire production crew involved in the production of "Life is Innocent" and has launched an official investigation of the production crew.
Ms. Li Jirong is one of the four Captains at Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp. She was one of the fiercest torturers at the Camp. In 2003, Jiang Zemin's regime even made her a "Political and Legal Model Serviceman" of the year for her unmatched brutalities against Falun Gong practitioners and broadcast the award ceremony on China's national TV channel, CCTV. There is nothing more scandalous than saluting people who trample on the Chinese Constitution, abandon their humanity and destroy law-abiding Chinese citizens' families.
1. Beijing's Daxing Women's Forced Labor Camp Alters Its Name to Disguise the Persecution, But Continues Its Torture and Slavery Behind Closed Doors
(Clearwisdom.net) Daxing Female Forced Labor Camp near Tiangongyuan, Tuanhe, Beijing has changed its name to Daxing Reform School. However, it continues its gruesome torture and slavery of Falun Gong practitioners behind closed doors. When a female Falun Gong practitioner is illegally sentenced to do hard labor, she will be sent to Beijing Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp before she is transferred to the designated forced labor camp. As soon as female Falun Gong practitioners enter Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp, the camp's police would make them stand or squat for an extended period of time each day. Next the police would try to force them to write a Guarantee Statement to renounce Falun Gong, and brutally beat up those who refused to do so, in an empty warehouse. As for those extraordinarily determined Falun Gong practitioners, the police would order several drug addicts to help hold them on the ground and force them to press their ink-stained fingers on a Guarantee Statement that they had written "on behalf of" these determined Falun Gong practitioners.
Next, the camp's police would put Falun Gong practitioners through about a month long "hard labor training," where Falun Gong practitioners are essentially used as a free tool. The police would repeatedly search every Falun Gong practitioner and their personal belongings each day, and perform a thorough search of all the cells every few days. With each cell search, the police would make all Falun Gong practitioners gather in the auditorium while they searched each and every item in all the cells. They would go to the extent of tearing the wrapping of each roll of toilet paper. When they finished searching the cells, they would strip Falun Gong practitioners naked and search their bodies and clothes. In addition to the humiliation of strip search, the police make each Falun Gong practitioner work at least more than eight hours a day on wrapping disposable chopsticks. The daily quota for each enslaved Falun Gong practitioner has increased from 7,500 pairs of chopsticks to 10,000.
After the "hard labor training" is concluded, the camp's police would transfer designated Falun Gong practitioners to Beijing's Daxing Forced Labor Camp (or Daxing Reform School.) At Daxing Forced Labor Camp, the police would make several prison inmates take turns in watching a Falun Gong practitioner around the clock. They would typically torture Falun Gong practitioners by denying them sleep, the use of the toilet, water and the chance to wash or shower. They are routinely forced to read and watch propaganda materials that slander Falun Gong. Unless they renounce Falun Gong, Falun Gong practitioners are routinely subject to continual brutal tortures, such as being forced to squat or sit for an extended period of time, forced to stand or sit barefoot under the blazing sun and on the scorching ground for an extended amount of time, Small Swallow Flying torture (see note), brutal beating, being shocked with electric batons, etc.
It is only when a Falun Gong practitioner becomes critically wounded or ill that the camp's police would send her to the hospital for emergency resuscitation. If she survives and her health started to show some improvement, the police would haul her back. Daxing Forced Labor Camp would right away continue their tortures on her. The camp's police would deprive Falun Gong practitioners of a chance to wash and shower for several months or even a year and claim that practicing Falun Gong had caused the body odor.
Small Swallow Flying -- A torture method in which practitioners' lower bodies are tied onto the floor. Six to ten people hold the practitioner's arms and pull backwards. Some of them bend the practitioner's head and upper body down until the practitioner's forehead touches the knees. The forced labor camp performs this kind of torture for several, sometimes over ten hours every time. The crueler thing is that when some practitioners are shivering all over the body and cannot even stand up, the vicious police still forcibly push them underneath a low bed with their upper bodies pressing against their lower bodies.

2. Chinese TV Series "Life is Innocent" Distorts the Facts - This is What Life at the Beijing Women's Labor Camp is Really Like
http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2003/7/25/38492.html
(Clearwisdom.net) We heard the shocking news that the Party is premiering a TV series called Life is Innocent, to slander Falun Gong and to whitewash the persecution in the forced labor camps. We, a few of the tens of thousands of practitioners who were illegally detained at Beijing Women's Labor Camp, the former Tiantanghe Labor Camp or Xinan Labor Camp, can attest that the people who made the TV program are fabricating facts. Here we just want to tell the truth about life at the Beijing Female Labor Camp.
Construction of the Beijing Women's Labor Camp was finished last year. The dormitory looks like a palace in a fairy tale, and flowers and plants flourish in the yard. However, none of these can hide the brutal persecution.
Hard Labor
The labor camp policy states that detainees must work four hours a day from Monday through Friday, and they get time off during holidays and weekends. However, most of the time we were forced to work from early morning to late at night, and we rarely got the weekend off. In order to get as much work done as possible, the guards woke us up at 4 a.m. and made us work until after midnight. In order not to be seen violating the policy, the guards didn't turn on the light when they woke us up and they ordered us to wash in the dark. Then they turned on the light and asked us to start working immediately. Oftentimes the guards didn't write down our names and the hours we worked, but every time we filled out forms the group leaders asked us to write as they told us. Some practitioners ignored their unreasonable demands and wrote down the facts. The guards found these practitioners according to their handwriting and class, sent them to the office and asked them in a vicious manner, "What did you put on the form?" the practitioners said, "You said the form is anonymous, why do you ask?" The guards couldn't answer.
Other than obtaining bonus money by forcing the practitioners to do heavy labor, the guards also tried to brainwash the practitioners, and not let them have access to Dafa books and articles.
Terrible Hygiene Conditions
There are all kinds of hygienic facilities available at the labor camp, but in the summer we were allowed to take only one shower per week, and once every two weeks at all other times. The whole labor camp had to finish showering within half a day. After we returned from the shower, the guards pressured us to wash our clothes within the shortest time. When we washed our face and brushed our teeth in the morning and evening, the guards looked at their watches and urged us to finish quickly. In this high-pressure atmosphere, many elderly practitioners only had time to wash their feet once a day or not at all, and they could wash their clothes only infrequently.
Because of this high pressure, many practitioners developed hypertension and other illnesses. The guards lied and claimed they weren't healthy when practicing Falun Gong, and the government took care of them and gave them medicine. However, the fact is these people were mostly healthy before their arrest, and no matter how sick they became in the labor camp, they quickly recovered by doing Dafa exercises after they returned home. The so-called medication cost expended at the labor camp is proof of the persecution.
Meager Food Rations
When the labor camp went by the name Tiantanghe, they provided low quality food, and as a result many people showed symptoms of malnutrition. The food became steadily worse and worse at the women's camp. We were rarely given any meat, and there was little oil in the vegetables. Once, the camp gave us pure fat boiled in water, and we all suffered diarrhea. Every time people visited the labor camp, the menu at the cafeteria would say beans and other fresh vegetables, but in fact we ate the same food as we were normally given.
Early this year, the camp opened a supermarket. Things that cost one yuan outside are sold for 1.5 yuan here. From then on, our food became even worse, and our meals basically consisted of dirty cabbage and carrots boiled in water, with a little salt. Because of the terrible food, even the people with financial resources had to purchase the salted vegetables from the camp supermarket. The practitioners had no financial resources since their previous jobs were taken away, yet the camp made money this way and added to the financial burden of the practitioners' families.
Brutal "Rescue"
The government claims their policy toward Falun Gong is "educate, influence, rescue." Let's take a look at how the practitioners are treated at the female camp.
Falun Gong practitioners in all groups face brainwashing. The thugs try to confuse the practitioners with hypocritical Party theories. The head of Group Seven made up lies that sounded laughable even to the other guards. The thugs from Group One, Three, Five and Seven mainly used sleep deprivation to torture the practitioners. Newly arrested practitioners are not allowed to sleep as long as they don't give up Dafa, and some groups don't even allow them to enter the dormitory. They force the practitioners to stay in the hall or the underground pathway for days on end. If they still refuse to give up Dafa, the thugs would force them to squat, stand and stay in a position with their body bent down to extreme and their arms lifting up behind them. They also order the collaborators [former Falun Gong practitioners who have gone astray due to torture and brainwashing], drug addicts and prostitutes to beat the practitioners. These thugs usually hit the practitioners' sensitive body parts. In the end, the guards sent persevering practitioners to the "concentration training group," also called "the cage."
The "concentration training group" uses specialized cages. When practitioners are in these cages, they can neither stand nor squat. The guards also use electrical batons to force the determined practitioners to walk in a squatting posture until their shoes are worn out. When they can no longer walk, the guards kick them so hard they roll on the floor. The guards also shock the female practitioners' private parts with electric batons, until they crawl in pain and try to cover their lower bodies with their hands and arms. Some practitioners are repeatedly beaten until they don't have any perceptible pulse. For practitioners who are too weak to take another beating, the guards open the door in the winter to freeze them. Several practitioners held hunger strikes to protest this gross abuse and mistreatment.
At the end of 2002, the head of Group Two ordered drug addicts and collaborators to beat a determined practitioner for a whole night, until she was on the verge of death. After this, 80% of the Falun Gong practitioners detained at Group Two claimed their forced brainwashing to be null and void. Because of pressure from the practitioners, the female camp authorities sent the perpetrators to the concentration training group; they dissolved Group Two and sent the thugs to the other five groups. The team leaders of Group Two were sent to another group, and Cheng Cuie, the head of Group Two, who is very adamant in the persecution, was sent away. The attempted brainwashing completely failed.
The message in Life is Innocent that the persecution is like "a sprinkling rainfall and breezes in spring" is really an outrageous distortion of the facts.
We advise all people and those who took part in the making of this TV program to please wake up and understand that there is an eternal, heavenly principle: goodness is rewarded and evil deeds are punished. People who distort the facts and slander mighty Dafa are committing unforgivable crimes!

3. Witness Describes How the Chinese State-run TV Series "Life is Innocent" Distorts the Facts - What Life is Really Like at the Beijing Xinan Forced Labor Camp
http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2004/1/29/44525.html
By Chen Ying (a practitioner from Beijing)
(Clearwisdom.net)
July 27, 2003
A fellow practitioner wrote an article entitled, "Chinese TV Series 'Life is Innocent' Distorts the Facts-- This is What Life at the Beijing Women's Labor Camp is Really Like." After reading the article, I was shocked at how, in order to defame Falun Gong and cover up the crimes committed in forced labor camps against Falun Gong practitioners, some state-run television stations broadcast the TV series "Life is Innocent", which is allegedly based on life in the Beijing Women's Labor Camp. I could not help shedding tears.
Based on my personal experience at Chaoyang Detention Center, the Forced Labor Center, and Xinan Forced Labor Camp in Beijing City, I would like to expose the crimes I experienced and witnessed. I went through the four stages mentioned in the fellow practitioner's article. What she wrote was all true. I can even add more facts that I know.
My Personal Background
I started practicing Falun Gong in 1996 and came to France with my husband in December 1998. In December 1999, I went back to China to visit my parents. While there, I took the opportunity to let the public know that Falun Dafa is good at Tiananmen Square during the Chinese Lunar New Year of 2000. I was unlawfully arrested and detained at the Tiananmen Police Substation, along with at least 2,000 other practitioners. That evening, we were transferred to the Thirteenth Department of the Public Security Bureau in Beijing. Then I was transferred again to the Chaoyang Detention Center, where I was detained for a month until my working unit provided a guarantee for me. At the end of September 2000, some fellow practitioners and I gathered together to exchange experiences about our cultivation at a practitioner's home. The police suddenly arrived to search the practitioner's home. As the practitioner did not allow the police to enter, two security guards stayed outside, watching the door 24 hours a day, while plainclothes policemen and a police van waited by the entrance of the building. Finally, after five days of staying in the apartment, we decided we were unwilling to be controlled by their actions any longer and we went down the stairs, intending to leave. I was arrested and detained at the Chaoyang Detention Center for nearly a month.
On November 23, 2000, a policeman whose last name was Wei, from the Babaoshan Police Substation, came to my home and lied to me, saying that the Chaoyang Public Security Branch wanted to get some information from me, that they were waiting for me at the Babaoshan Police Substation, and that it would not take more than twenty minutes. Unexpectedly, a policeman whose last name is Guo, from the Hujialou Police Substation in Chaoyang District, took me to the Chaoyang Detention Center, where I was sentenced to a year of forced labor without any trial or charge. I was detained in Team Three of the Xinan Forced Labor Camp. During detention, due to my attachments and the persecution I suffered, I said things against Dafa, which I deeply regret. I was released on November 26, 2001, and on March 20, 2003, came to France again on a student visa.
In France, away from the vicious environment in China, I gradually awakened and regretted my previous actions. I met with fellow practitioners and came back to the cultivation path of Falun Dafa. Once again, the teachings from our compassionate Teacher, provided me with the chance to purify myself again, to expose the evil, and to clarify the truth of the persecution. As a witness to this vicious persecution, I have the responsibility to do what a Dafa disciple should do: to clarify the truth, expose the evil, and save sentient beings. The following is my account of the persecution I experienced in the labor camp.
The Confusion Created by the Xinan and Tuanhe Forced Labor Camps
I left the Xinan Forced Labor Camp at the end of November 2001, at the completion of my term. When I was still in the labor camp, I heard that the camp would move to the newly built Beijing Female Forced Labor Camp. I had heard that Jiang Zemin and the "610 Office" spent a huge amount of money creating a forced labor camp that specialized in forcing Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their belief in Falun Dafa. The fellow practitioner's article mentioned above describes how the dormitory buildings in the Beijing Female Forced Labor Camp look very pretty on the outside with beautiful flowers and grass growing in the big yard. Their surface attractiveness cannot hide the horror of the persecution that occurs inside the camp. It is even more brutal than what happens in a prison. The situation is the same in the Xinan Forced Labor Camp, where I was detained.
The Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp is also the same, according to some practitioners I know. The beautiful environment, which also hides the forced labor camp's brutal activities, is designed to confuse the practitioners.. In order to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their belief in Dafa, huge sums of money have been invested in renovating the forced labor camp. The authorities have made it look like a garden, with colorful murals painted on the walls. The iron fences, the electric wire mesh on the windows, the doors of the dormitories, and the monitors in the rooms have all been removed. There are flowers in every room. Every inmate is given a pet gold fish and a TV set in each room. The dining room provides a variety of food, and the menu is changed daily. In addition, the authorities organize all kinds of recreational activities, such as singing and dancing competitions. The authorities require us to sing a "transformation song" before each meal. However, all of this is just a fake "store front" to disguise the forced labor camp and put on a show to deceive people. This same false appearance of happiness is used to confuse and brainwash Dafa practitioners.
In each team of the forced labor camp, Dafa practitioners are fed countless lies such as "The policy of the government is to educate, move and save," "The forced labor camp is a special school instead of a prison." "Falun Gong practitioners are good people who only need to change and transform their thoughts." These deceptive strategies are part of the brainwashing process, which intends to confuse right and wrong, and is calculated to throw Falun Gong practitioners off guard. The ultimate purpose is to make them unconsciously accept brainwashing and give up their cultivation practice. This false appearance is coupled with threats and promises, while the victims are deprived of all personal freedom.
The evil makes use of the fake surface appearance to cover up the brutal nature of the persecution going on behind the scenes, so as to confuse Dafa practitioners, especially those who have attachments to such outward comfort. The authorities make use of human notions as a way to launch psychological attacks, and create illusions so that the human notions of those practitioners who do not have a deep understanding of the Falun Dafa principles, and have not let go of their degenerated concepts, form a huge psychological discrepancy. While such a deception outwardly looks normal and reasonable, it is actually the most despicable and vicious way to confuse practitioners who have been deprived of personal freedom. Such practitioners are then subjected to persecution and forced brainwashing.
Deprived of the ability to study the Falun Dafa teachings, some of us found we could not face the tribulations from the perspective of the Fa, and our own attachments made us unable to see the truth clearly. The majority of practitioners who have been brainwashed are deceived and bewildered by the illusions and lies. Cultivation is a serious issue. If we cannot view things happening around us from the perspective of the Fa, it becomes very easy to be confused, fall into the trap of degenerated concepts, and be taken advantage of by the evil. As a result, we might be brainwashed without realizing it. After getting released from the forced labor camp, such spiritual torture makes many practitioners unable to discern the nature of the evil persecution. It fundamentally destroys a person's righteous thoughts and righteous beliefs, taking them away from the virtue of Falun Dafa and down a path of self-destruction. For a practitioner who becomes confused by such illusions in the material world, the result can be horrible.
Often, practitioners who see this illusion are unable to determine its true nature. Such a practitioner might stand up for the evil and help cover up the truth of persecution. That is why many people who came out of the forced labor camps after being brainwashed told others, "It is pretty good in the forced labor camp." This is what the evil wants to achieve; the fundamental destruction of sentient beings.
Fabrication and deception have become the central core of Jiang Zemin regime's system of false compassion. In order to confuse and deceive the Chinese people, Jiang Zemin regime follows the propaganda tactic that, "When a lie is repeated ten times, it becomes the truth." Jiang Zemin regime's practices are deceiving people all over the world as well. To help people see the truth and make their own judgment after they are aware of what is really going on, I feel it is my responsibility to expose what life is really like in the Xinan Forced Labor Camp and to rectify what is wrong.
I. Deceiving the International Media
Below is my personal experience from the Xinan Forced Labor Camp in Beijing. It shows how the media from the United States was deceived while doing a report on the forced labor camp. We heard that the media came for the sake of human rights organizations that heard Falun Gong practitioners were being tortured in the forced labor camps. The American media came to the Xinan Forced Labor Camp. (I cannot remember the exact date. To my memory, it was in the summer.) At the time, an American journalist filmed everything that the police staged: "The so-called happy life in the library."
The guards got some people to create this library near the auditorium, where nobody had ever been seen reading books. The police singled out several Falun Gong practitioners who were considered reliable and had a pleasant appearance. These people, including me, were brought to the library for about ten minutes before the American journalist came to interview us. While we sat there, waiting for the interview, the police instructed the interviewee to say only what they had scripted beforehand. What the American journalist filmed was pre-arranged and not the real situation at all. When the journalist finished filming, we were brought back to our rooms to continue with our labor.
Everyone who has experienced the real situation in a forced labor camp knows that what was depicted on the state-run TV series was completely fabricated and used as propaganda to deceive and fool the Chinese people.
II. Hard Labor
As described in the fellow practitioner's article, the police guards often violated the regulations regarding working schedules in the forced labor camps. They make use of cheap labor in the forced labor camps to manufacture products for export. For instance, we were forced to make stuffed toy rabbits to fill an order for the Nestle Company, to work with fabric and strong smelling glue that filled the whole room and the fumes were not properly ventilated (we made all the products in our rooms), and to make cushions. All the above products were for export. When an order came, it was always a big quantity and had to be done within a few days. Everybody in the camp was assigned a certain quantity to complete in a certain time. The labor camp forced us to finish work rapidly by linking one person's output to the treatment of the entire group of detainees'. If one person could not finish the work, we were all forced to work until midnight, which was far beyond an average person's endurance. We had to sit on a little bench, working all the time, and were not allowed to move about or to talk to each other. Going to the bathroom was only permitted at set times for the whole group. No individual was allowed to go to the bathroom alone at any time. After a day's work, everybody was very tired and wished to sleep. Even so, the police always talked to us using a false compassionate tone. They told us their salaries were low, that funds from the government were not sufficient, that in order for us to eat better, we had to work hard to achieve self-sufficiency, etc. They exploited our labor without paying us at all.
If the authorities arrived unexpectedly to inspect the camp, they would ask us to hide what we were working on, to sit comfortably, or to go to sleep. When some leaders came to visit the labor camp, they would prepare us by asking us not to work or do some light work, or to watch TV, and they would improve our meals so as to bolster the illusion. This happened frequently in forced labor camps. Deception is also used when the forced labor camp takes part in a competition, or applies for an award. There is a regulation for a forced labor camp to have a limited number of people in one room and a certain amount of space for each person. In order to comply, the guards move the extra detainees, the aged or those in poor health to a location that the inspection team cannot see. Those moved are not allowed to come out of their hiding place. Someone even brings them food. This is how the labor camp "complies" with the requirements, by deceptive means. Meeting the requirement and being selected as an advanced labor camp directly relates to their monetary reward.
My fellow practitioner mentioned in the article that the guards illegally impose heavy labor upon us, not only for the purpose of making a larger bonus for themselves, but also for the purpose of brainwashing Falun Dafa practitioners. They also verbally abuse us and try to wear us down with exhaustion. Not having time to think about our understanding of Dafa or to recite Teacher's articles, we begin to unconsciously accept the imposed persecution. Deceived by the false impression, we become indifferent and forget about cultivation during Fa-rectification. We use our human mentality to find excuses for the survival of our attachments, instead of having a clear understanding from the perspective of the Fa that illegal detention and forced labor result from the evils' suppression and persecution of Dafa.
As Teacher said in the article Expounding on the Fa,
"Whenever a tribulation comes, you do not see it with the side of your original nature but view it completely with your human side. Evil demons then capitalize on this point and inflict endless interference and damage, leaving students in long-term tribulations. As a matter of fact, this results from an inadequate understanding of the Fa by your human side. You have humanly restrained your divine side; in other words, you have restrained the parts that have been successfully cultivated and have prevented them from doing Fa-rectification. How can the uncultivated side restrain your main thoughts or the side that has already attained the Fa? Having humanly fostered the evil demons, you allow them to capitalize on the loopholes in the Fa."
This is one of the reasons that some practitioners cannot pass the test of tribulations. Humanly fostering the evil demons also means acknowledging evils' damage to Dafa and the persecution of Dafa practitioners, both physically and spiritually, which is a totally intolerable injustice. Getting lost because of an unclear understanding of the Fa principles is the same as becoming blind to the true meaning of life.
III. Extremely Unhygienic Conditions
There are bathrooms at Xinan Forced Labor Camp. For us, however, it is viewed as a charity to be given a chance to take a shower. In summer, we were only permitted to take one quick shower per week. In winter we rarely were allowed to take a shower. Even though we were allowed one shower occasionally, all people from the seven teams of the labor camp had to finish within half a day (with limited shower heads). The guards told us it was for our sake -- in case we caught a cold. After the shower, we had to finish washing all of our clothes in the shortest time and we were not allowed to wash clothes at any other time.
Our clothes and bed coverings could not be washed regularly. Only when somebody had scabies were we allowed to wash our bed sheets and coverings and to sterilize the quilt in the sun. Every morning and evening, washing and brushing time was very short. The police guards urged us to hurry, with watches in their hands. Within a few minutes, over twenty people had to finish washing and brushing at only ten sinks. It was very militarized.
Under such a bad condition and intense atmosphere, many older people could only wash one foot or did not wash their feet at all. Sometimes they had to wash their underwear using the time designated for washing their faces and then hang their underwear in a hidden location that was not easy to find. Real life in the labor camp was always under high pressure and forced brainwashing, with no personal and spiritual freedom at all. The situation was always intense, with human dignity entirely lost or distorted. The evil constantly ordered practitioners about and persecuted them.
As the fellow practitioner pointed out, many suffered from high blood pressure and other diseases. Yet, the police blamed Falun Gong. They boasted that the government showed great concern and gave them medicine to take. The fact is, almost all practitioners were in good health before they were detained. Furthermore, no matter how serious their illnesses were at the forced labor camp, as long as they went back home, and resumed the normal practice of Falun Gong, they would recover very quickly. The labor camp's medical expenses are proof that Falun Dafa practitioners are being persecuted, as such expenses would never be necessary were the practitioners free to practice.
Some practitioners who were brainwashed went back to an everyday person's life completely and did not practice any more. After they were released, many did not recover at all from the illnesses they acquired in the forced labor camp. Instead, they started taking the same medicine they had thrown away after benefiting from Falun Gong. What's worse, many of them did not know what to do. They lived in misery, filled with fear and confusion resulting from the spiritual devastation of brainwashing.
IV. Meager Food Rations
The food at the Tiantanghe Xinan Forced Labor Camp was of good quality in some people's eyes. One reason is the Jiang Zemin regime's strategy of false compassion, a component of the brainwashing. Many practitioners had been in some other detention centers that had very horrible conditions, so by comparison, they were deceived that they were in a better place and let down their guard.
Before practitioners were detained in the forced labor camp, the conditions were very bad, with low quality food as well. The criminal prisoners detained there told us that it was a blessing that Dafa practitioners came there, since the head of the persecution, Jiang Zemin, used the excuse of transforming Falun Gong to force the country to invest in the living conditions in the forced labor camps.
Many practitioners had been to detention centers or terminal centers, which were in really bad condition. They were only permitted to eat food with poor nutritional quality such as steamed corn bread, and soup with dirt in it every day. Many Chinese people live a very poor life. After they came to the forced labor camp, they felt that life there was even better than at home. They were satisfied with the food there because they were provided with meat and vegetables cooked with oil, which they rarely could afford to eat at home, so they felt good psychologically, and more comfortable, even though they had no personal and spiritual freedom in the forced labor camp. Some people did not even want to leave the labor camp. That element also contributed to people who have been brainwashed saying, "It is pretty good there."
The above-mentioned strategies are what are being used in the forced labor camps to brainwash Falun Gong practitioners. They lie and deceive, so that people can no longer tell good from bad. When people do not have righteous thoughts, they do not mind whether it is right or wrong. New practitioners, or those who did not yet really understand the Fa, totally forgot that they were practitioners and why they were forcibly detained.
Even though the menu on the blackboard in the dining room is different from the real dishes, people regard it as normal. By watching such abnormal thoughts over such abnormal things, we see the indifferent and distorted souls of people after forced brainwashing.
They also use the practitioners' captivity to extort money and property from them. One example is that detainees have to buy the commodities sold at the labor camp store due to the low quality of the food and their need for necessities. The commodities are mostly fake products at double the price compared with those sold outside the labor camp. Even those who are very poor have to buy some preserved food or other necessities. Another example is the computer course. The forced labor camp set up a computer class in order to extort money from practitioners using the excuse of helping them obtain a skill for a career when they are released back into society. A certificate is granted after finishing the course. In fact, the guards register those whose family members give them more money for living expenses: 100 yuan per person. Since we have to do the forced labor, no one has time to attend the class and no certificate is actually issued, either. It is just a way for the forced labor camp to collect money, which shifts a heavy burden to the detainees' family members. It is part of Jiang Zemin and the "610 Office" policy of "bankrupt them financially." Many practitioners had a job before they were detained. They did not work because they were not allowed to, and were illegally detained, so they have no need for a compulsory computer course where they cannot learn anything anyway.
V. Brutal "Rescue"
I had been through brainwashing and experienced how Xinan Forced Labor Camp treats Falun Gong practitioners. At the time, I was in Team Three. Jiao Xuexian was the team leader and Huai Chunhong was the deputy team leader. Policemen Huo and Du were in our team. The telephone number of Team Three is 86-10-60278899, ext. 5301.
Team One, Team Three, Team Five and Team Seven had generally adopted a strategy of depriving all detainees of sleep. From the time of their arrival at the labor camp, Falun Gong practitioners are not allowed to sleep, until they become compliant. I have witnessed the following. The practice in Team Three was not to allow detainees to go to sleep in their bedrooms unless they agreed to renounce their belief in Falun Dafa. They had to stay in the hall or corridor, as mentioned in the fellow practitioner's article. If practitioners did not renounce their belief in Falun Dafa, they were forced to squat, stand, or bend forward while their hands were handcuffed behind their back for extended periods. Often collaborators [former Dafa practitioners who renounced their belief in Falun Dafa due to severe pressure and torture] were ordered to beat any practitioners who would not renounce Falun Dafa. Detained drug addicts or prostitutes following the guard's orders beat all of the practitioners who remained firm in their belief. The prisoners were quite vicious and would strike the most sensitive parts of the body. Eventually, the guards would send the most steadfast practitioners to the Concentrated Training Team, where they are placed in cages.
In October 2001, the head of Team Three instructed drug-addicts and collaborators to deal with a firm practitioner named Zhang Yijie (She was a department director of the National Economic & Business Ministry. Li Lanqing, head of the "610 Office", personally sentenced her to one and a half years of forced labor.) Her eyes became black after the brutal beatings. After that, the head of the team was afraid that she might die or something might happen, so other measures were undertaken, to force her to renounce her belief; but they all failed.
Usually, the labor camp authorities would not release anyone who had been brainwashed or became collaborators until they were their sentence was over. Once brainwashed, they were directed to brainwash others. Using people this way was aimed at making the more steadfast practitioners suffer, contributed to their self-destruction, and, at the same time, trying to force them to fight with each other.
Because I succumbed to the brainwashing, I was asked to persecute practitioner Zhang Yijie (I will expose the process in detail in a separate article) but I failed. Her belief in Truth, Compassion and Tolerance never wavered. Even though some people developed distorted understandings after undergoing the forced brainwashing, once they left the environment of persecution, and no longer were under the power of the regime, they would awaken and see the truth some day. I am a typical example of such a case. Falun Dafa gave me a new life and the principle of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance is in my heart.
As a witness to history, as a victim of brainwashing, as a person who was once taken advantage of by the evil, and as a being who has awakened and come back to the cultivation practice of Dafa, I would like to tell people in the world that TV series such as "Life is Innocent" distorts the facts. It turns things upside down by describing the torture in the forced labor camps as if it were a spring breeze. I hope all who take part in the making of this TV series and support it, take a look at themselves. It is a cosmic principle that good is rewarded with the good, and evil with evil. It is a sin to distort facts like this, and to defame Falun Dafa, which promotes virtue.
I wrote the above after I awakened and restarted my practice of Falun Dafa. These are my personal experiences. If there is anything that does not conform to Dafa, please kindly point it out. I know that I need to strengthen Fa study and to improve myself in the Fa. At the same time, I will try to catch up with the process of Fa-rectification by exposing the evil and clarifying the truth.

My experience at the detention center and Beijing transfer station for prisoners of forced-labor
As soon as I entered the detention center, I saw a Falun Gong practitioner coming in with black and blue marks all over her body. Her head had been struck so severely that there were open wounds, which later required several stitches. Because she didn't tell her name, she was tortured by the female police from Qianmen Police Station for the entire night; they especially beat on the sensitive private areas of her body.
Because another practitioner didn't cooperate with the police, she was tied up with her feet and hands together. They put a steel helmet on her head, and forced her to squat on her heels. In such a position, she could only move bit by bit. In order to resist the persecution, she went on a hunger strike, and ended up being violently force-fed by the police. She was in great agony and was later sent to the hospital.
The detention center adopted a means of "involving others" to torture Dafa practitioners. As long as someone did the exercises, the police would threaten other inmates in the same cell that if he continued doing the exercises, they would all not be allowed to sleep, and must sit on the bench. The police adopted these base means in order to promote hatred against Falun Gong, and make use of other inmates to swear at, beat, and torture Dafa practitioners. They tried everything in an attempt to shake practitioners' righteous thoughts.
At the Beijing transfer station for prisoners of forced labor, as soon as you enter the door, you are asked to squat on your heels with both hands behind your head. Your eyes are not allowed to look around, and if you don't cooperate, you are shocked with electric batons. As to those who fail to lower their heads enough by their standards, all female police, from both sides would come up to them, pull their hair and press their heads down very hard. For those who refused to write the "Guarantee Statement" to renounce Falun Gong, the police would immediately poke their faces with pens. The team leaders of the police team shocked Dafa practitioners with electric batons many times and threatened them by saying, "If you don't write them, we have a lot of means with which to deal with you guys. They located a few prisoners from the forced labor camp to press practitioners' fingers down in order to get their fingerprints on the "Guarantee Statement." If practitioners don't cooperate with them, those prisoners would beat them up until they lost consciousness.
After we entered the yard, we were told to squat on our heels by the walls, with both hands behind our heads. We weren't allowed to talk. The "prisoners on guard" standing beside and watching us beat us at will. We had to squat on our heels for two hours straight until the police had enough sleep and woke up. A sixty-year-old Falun Gong practitioner refused to write the "Guarantee Statement" so the police had her squat on her heels with both hands behind her head. The "prisoner on guard" beside her was watching her, and as long as she moved, the prisoner on guard would beat her. It was midnight and she was still not allowed to go to bed, but had to squat on her heels. When the sun started appearing they became afraid that it would be seen by others, so the police dragged her into a guardroom. By then she couldn't move at all.
At night, when bedtime came, except for the prisoners on guard, all the other people had to lie down, especially Dafa practitioners, who were separated and squeezed in between a few prisoners. All practitioners had to lay down on the floor.
A Falun Gong practitioner clarifying the truth to the police was forced into a spread-eagle position. She wasn't allowed to drink water or use the bathroom. At noon, the prisoner on guard stuffed steamed buns into her mouth, which she refused, so they beat her on the chest.
One Falun Gong practitioner refused to write the "Guarantee Statement", and was forced to say "report, here, yes" 200 times while repeatedly squatting down and standing back up. If she went a little bit slow, she would incur a terrible beating. (Note: Practitioners in such situations must strengthen their righteous thoughts. No matter what the situation, do not cooperate with the evil's demands, orders, or what it instigates.)
At the transfer station, we had to work non-stop: packaging big bags, wrapping up chopsticks. Because we were deprived of having showers, our clothes all stunk. We were only allowed three minutes to go to the washroom, and to do some personal cleaning at night. Some people had terrible difficulty with their bowel movements. Even so, some people couldn't stay away from being beaten by prisoners on guard.
Violent torture and forced brainwashing at No.5 team of Beijing Women's Force Labor Camp
As soon as people arrive at Xinan Forced Labor Camp, they aren't allowed to join any team; instead, they have to stand in the hallway or by the furnace room, and read the policies stipulated by the forced-labor camp and No.23 bylaw from the Ministry of Justice. Then they had 4 or 5 collaborators [former Falun Gong practitioners who have gone astray due to brainwashing and torture] act as "teaching assistants" to carry out forced brainwashing in the early evenings and late nights. Initially, they pretended as if they were very patient in talking and in doing things, in order to confuse Falun Gong practitioners so that they could relax their vigilance. As a matter of fact, their faked kindness was only on the surface; fundamentally, this is a vicious means of brainwashing.
At night, Falun Gong practitioners were deprived of sleep. As long as they appeared sleepy, the "teaching assistants" would poke them in order to prevent them from falling sleep. When the "teaching assistants" were bored with poking them, they would then make them stand. After a few days, if practitioners didn't compromise, they would be punished by standing, squatting and "flying" (with the person's head down, his back bent all the way down by the wall, and both arms going up above the person's back and against the wall). All the penalties were administered with police team leader's tacit permission.
Due to the fact that Dafa practitioner Yang Xiaojing steadfastly held onto her belief, the team leader had other prisoners watch her all the time, and didn't allow her to have any contact with anyone. She was made to stand facing the wall, and was only allowed three to four hours sleep every day.
Under such pressure, Li Xiuling compromised with the evil, but later came to realize that she had made a mistake in her cultivation path. Then she was locked up by the police team leader and punished by being made to squat and stand. As a result, her legs and feet swelled up.
Because Zhang Guiling firmly cultivated Dafa, she was forced to stand facing the wall in the administration area every day. She was only allowed a few hours' sleep everyday, and often ended up falling asleep on the ground. Later, she was sent to the intensive training team, where she received inhuman torture. The muscles in her heels even started to tear apart.
Liu Yan didn't cooperate with the police at the transfer station. She refused to wear prisoner's clothes and was beaten and had wounds all over her body. In such a condition, she was having difficulty getting about. After she came to the forced-labor camp, she was locked up in the administration area and punished with standing and squatting. Four "teaching assistants" took turns watching her and didn't allow her to sleep; they even beat her, and had her pull out weeds under the hot baking sun.
Since Lu Kuan was abducted into the brainwashing class, the police still couldn't succeed after three attempts to brainwash him. Then, they sent him to the transfer station, where he was forced to squat for one day and one night, and was tied up on the bed for one day. After he came to Xinan forced-labor camp, he suffered a lot, and then was transferred to the intensive training team. Under the high pressure, he wrote the "Guarantee Statement," but after he came to realize his mistake, he regained his righteous thoughts again. His detention term was extended for ten months.
Here, Falun Gong practitioners don't just endure physical pain, but also mental agony. The "teaching assistants" try to brainwash Falun Gong practitioners with distorted sayings and thoughts everyday. In order to control us, the guards wouldn't allow us to communicate with each other, and required each team to set up a so-called "supervision committee," choosing those whom they considered to be trustful as committee members. Actually, the people who were chosen even said: "What 'supervision committee,' it's just an spy network designed to monitor your every move and give reports to the police team leader."
Under the dual pressure of both physical and mental torture, a practitioner by the name of Zhang Airu, who was very enthusiastic and always helpful to others, suffered a mental collapse. However, the police didn't stop there. They had a "teaching assistant" by the name of Liu Xiaoyao closely watch her, which led to the further deterioration of Zhang Airu's situation. Later, she was bailed out for treatment.
The persecution means adopted at Xinan intensive training team at the forced-labor camp are very brutal. Even though practitioners who were detained there suffered all kinds of torture, they still held onto their righteous beliefs and didn't compromise with the evils. The policemen sent them to the intensive training team and had them suffer all kinds of inhuman torture. In each room there are monitors. No matter whether you are eating, drinking, using the toilet, or sleeping, you are monitored. They have stipulated many punishing positions for the practitioners, such as: "frog jump," standing in a military position (for a few hours or a whole day), walking while squatting on the heels, push-ups and "Riding a bicycle" (both arms positioned as if holding the handle-bar of a bicycle, both legs separated and squatted half way), and "Riding an airplane", etc.
Dafa practitioner, Du Fenrong, who was detained at No. 4 team, cried out "Falun Dafa is good!" during the raising of the national flag ceremony in the morning. At that instant, a few policemen covered her mouth, and then violently broke her lower jaw . She was beaten while being dragged on her way to the intensive training team. There, she suffered more severe torture than at the No. 4 team. Dafa practitioner Chen Fengxian was forced to stand motionless in the yard during the freezing winter and under the baking sun during the hot summer. One time, a "teaching assistant" hit her on her chest to the point where she nearly lost consciousness. Since she was transferred to the intensive training team, she was only allowed two hours' sleep every day, and was punished by being made to stand for hours on end on the stairs. After she stood for a while, she would feel sleepy, and then would fall down the stairs; she ended up having black and blue marks all over her body. The "teaching assistants" standing nearby would laugh at her and mock her. Since she had to stand for such a long while and wasn't allowed to sit down, sometimes, she couldn't stand any more and sat on the ground. At this, the collaborators and "teaching assistants" would immediately pour water on her. The water would soak her clothes; however the collaborators still didn't feel they received their just revenge, so they continued to force her to mop the floor in the hallways, and clean the furnace room and bathroom. They continuously kicked, beat, and swore at her, and her detention term was extended for 10 months.
I have personally witnessed how some who wanted to continue in cultivation were brutally tortured and brainwashed by the police, then turned into the "teaching assistants" who assisted the police to do evil deeds. Whenever people came for an interview or inspection, the team doesn't arrange any labor; rather, it would organize prisoners to study or even play movies. Sometimes, they even organize prisoners to go outside to partake in outdoors activities.

5. Exposing the Lies in the TV Series "Life is Innocent" With My Own Experiences in the Xin'an Labor Camp
http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2003/9/12/40168.html
(Clearwisdom.net)
I heard recently that the TV series "Life is Innocent" was being aired. This series claims that the police "rescue" Falun Gong practitioners like "breezes and sprinkling rain" at the Xin'an Labor Camp. I watched it for a few minutes and was shocked by the fact-twisting lies permeating the program. They dared to lie to 1.3 billion Chinese people, to slander Falun Gong, and to whitewash the labor camp authorities' crimes of brutal persecution against Falun Gong practitioners. I wrote down my experiences in order to expose the blatant lies spread by Jiang Zemin's groups.
My simple experiences
One day after July 20, 1999, I was illegally detained when visiting Tiananmen Square, merely because I admitted that I practice Falun Gong. At the Chaoyang Detention Center, the police officers order the detainees to curse and beat practitioners. In the winter they tied hunger-striking practitioners to a wooden board and force-fed them. They also stripped off the practitioners' pants and underwear in public.
One day when I was watching TV with my family, a local police officer came to me and said he wanted to talk to me. He deceived me and sent me to a labor camp. At the Beijing Labor Camp Dispatch Center I refused to write a "Guarantee Statement." The lawless perpetrators forced me to take off my clothes and squat in the snow, with my hands folded on my head. Drug addicts were ordered to stab me with needles. An elderly woman asked to go to the restroom, but the guards didn't allow it. She was forced to defecate in her pants. The guards cursed her out loud.
True Life at the Xin'an Labor Camp
The environment seemed more civilized at this camp, but the guards used more insidious means, and most put on hypocritical faces.
Basically there was no time schedule at the labor camp. We had to do whatever the guards wanted us to do. If the practitioners were not successfully reformed, or if the superiors scolded the guards, they would persecute the practitioners. They also instigated other detainees to hate Falun Gong practitioners. They cursed the practitioners during meetings, forced us to view Dafa-slandering videos and forced us to run up and down the stairs. They also forced us to write reflections on "reform," and they didn't allow us to walk or talk to each other. We had to do a large amount of work and had to meet a quota, even if it meant staying up all night. The practitioners were forced to make toys including stuffed rabbits for the Nestle Company, cloth slippers, knit sweaters, gloves, and mats for export. We were forced to make disposable chopsticks while sitting on our bed and on the floor, as well as uniforms for labor camp detainees. The authorities even forced us to dig a two-meter's deep foundation for a conference hall. We carried out the dirt, bucket by bucket. They didn't allow us to do the Dafa exercises. When someone came to visit, they hid determined practitioners elsewhere and threatened the "unreformed" practitioners not to say anything inappropriate. One time a foreign journalist came to visit, and they ordered us to put dishes and utensils in a disinfection cabinet, which we never used. They didn't even turn on the cabinet, to save electricity. This is the true life at the Xin'an Labor Camp.
How I was "Reformed" against my will
When I first arrived at the labor camp, the guards told me their job was hard and that they needed my cooperation. When I refused, they told me they wouldn't let me see my family nor will they release me unless I reform. They also sent "Reformed" people to "help" me. I didn't know then what "reform" was. None of them answered my questions; they only told me to write the "Three Statements."** They lied to me and said everyone at the labor camp has reformed. They didn't allow me to sleep, and forced me to stand for long periods of time. They ordered reformed people to take turns "helping" me, meaning they read Dafa-slandering articles to me non-stop. Some practitioners couldn't stand the torment and reformed against their true will. After they left the labor camp, they returned to the path of cultivation. The methods used to reform practitioners were physical torture, lies, and other mental torment. These deceitful methods do not stand the test of time and fly in the face of facts.
Later I learned that several determined practitioners had been isolated, or were detained at the group drill division. The instructors surrounded them in an attempt to brainwash them. They locked these practitioners in solitary confinement and basically didn't allow them any sleep for half a month. For practitioners who still refused to write the "Guarantee Statement," the perpetrators would order others to write it and put the practitioners' name on the statement. Afterwards they claimed that the practitioners had written the statement.
The reform rate at this camp has a direct bearing on the guards' bonuses and promotion. Some guards who are somewhat conscientious were forced to administer brainwashing and were not willing to do it themselves. They asked the practitioners to write the "Guarantee Statements" and once they comply, their job is done. Other guards, though, bore a personal grudge and irrationally tortured determined practitioners. They also forced reformed people to carry out brainwashing. One of my classmates was a former practitioner. She worked day and night as an instructor after she was reformed and wasn't allowed to rest for a single day, even after she fell ill. Now she regrets it. The people who reformed her were former practitioners and classmates. The lack of sleep and tremendous psychological pressure made her feel confused and agonized. She lost faith in humanity and hated the ugly side of it. She wanted to escape the environment as soon as possible so she didn't have to listen to the lies. That is why she wasn't thinking with a clear mind and resorted to self deception and self abandonment. I was also reformed this way. I said things that let down Master and Dafa, and I aided the evil persecution.
The so-called reform is destruction of human nature
After thinking with a calm mind, my conscience told me I did wrong. After I betrayed Dafa, self-blame and regret deeply distressed me. I always cried during monthly family visits. I couldn't tell my family anything, although I wanted to tell them everything. The physical torture was hard to bear; yet, mental torture hurt my soul. During the days when I could not come to grips with myself, I remembered Master saying that practitioners cannot kill, and that suicide is a crime. These words helped me to get by those difficult days. I didn't know how to cleanse myself of the stain until I left the labor camp and read Master's scriptures. I felt Master's boundless benevolence and I finally triumphed over my old self and walked out of the shadow. I returned to cultivation.
The persecution is ongoing
Readers, friends, and fellow practitioners! Everything I said is true. I wanted to say more but the environment here is vicious and I have to stop. Looking back, in the early days of the persecution I wrote letters, appealed, and went to police officers, government officials, colleagues, and neighbors to tell them about my feelings and changes after I practiced Dafa. I hoped to achieve justice and peace with my honesty and kindness. Even during the days I was illegally detained I told the police everything I knew, with only one purpose: so we can practice in an open manner, and so our respected Master receives just treatment.
I told people about my true experiences. I hope kind-hearted people can distinguish between good and evil, and understand and support Dafa practitioners.

Part 4: http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2003/10/25/41550.html
Part 1:
In 1992, while I was giving birth, there were two instances when I began bleed seriously because of medical malpractice. My life was in great danger during both incidents. Later, I was infected with hepatitis C during a blood transfusion. I couldn't work for four years and spent over 50,000 yuan for medical expenses [an average urban worker makes about 500 yuan a month in China]. My body felt weak all of the time and I had to take medication.
In July of 1997, I started practicing Falun Gong. Not long after that my hepatitis C went away and I could leave the hospital. I became healthy and could work again.
On July 20, 1999, Jiang Zemin's regime started a large-scale persecution of Falun Gong. I went to Zhongnanhai to appeal. I was hoping that the officials would carefully reconsider their policies toward Falun Gong. As soon as I stepped onto Fuyou Street, policemen asked me if I practice Falun Gong. My answer was of course "yes." They arrested me immediately and put me into a bus parked on the street. The policemen took away my two copies of Zhuan Falun [book of Falun Gong teachings] as well. When the bus was filled with people, they drove us to the Shijing Mountain District Gymnasium and locked us there for one day. The number of people locked in the gym that day was at least 3,000.
In early November of 1999, I wrote letters to the chairman of China, the premier, and the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. They were appeals to the government, asking that they stop the persecution against Falun Gong. I wrote my real name and address on the letters. These letters were sent to the police department and became "evidence." The police then arrested and interrogated me. They recorded the interrogation and forced me to sign my name to verify the "evidence."
On December 26, 1999, I heard that Beijing's First Intermediate Court was going to try ex-Falun Gong Association members. I wanted to witness the trial, but as soon as I arrived at the courthouse the police asked me if I practice Falun Gong. They arrested me as soon as I said "yes." They sent me to the Beijing Chongwen District Detention Center, and locked me up with prisoners for 48 hours. On that day they arrested over 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners in front of the courthouse.
On February18, 2000, I was arrested again because I attended an experience sharing conference. The Chongwen District Detention Center illegally detained me for 28 days. On March 16, my husband signed a bail letter to get me out.
At 2 a.m. on April 13, 2000, the police broke into my house while I was sleeping and arrested me. They took me to the Chongwen District Detention Center. For the next few days, they refused to tell me the reason for the arrest. While I was on trial they produced an email. It was an email that I wrote to my in-laws explaining why I practice Falun Gong. The police had done some hacking and intercepted the email when it was being delivered.
They unjustly sentenced me to one year of labor camp because of the email. There is no opportunity for Falun Gong practitioners to appeal regarding their sentencing. Three days after the sentence, on June 1, 2000, they sent me to the Bejing Labor Dispatch Department in Daxing County, Beijing. This dispatch department was newly built since there were too many practitioners unjustly sentenced to labor camp in Beijing, and they ran out of room in the existing dispatch departments.
On my first day in the department, they forced me and another 24 newcomers (20 of whom were practitioners) to squat down and stay exposed under burning sun from 9 a.m. until late into the night, for a total of 15 hours. They wouldn't let us move. Many people couldn't stand it and fell to the ground. As soon as they fell, they had to get back into the squatting position immediately; otherwise, the guards would beat them with electric batons.
Starting on the second day, we had to cross our arms in front of our stomachs and stare at our feet every day, 16 hours a day. At the same time we had to recite the labor camp's rules over and over again. I felt that this was an intolerable, personal insult. This indignation combined with extreme physical exhaustion, made me almost have a mental collapse.
On the third day, I couldn't take it anymore. So I requested paper and pen from the police to write a letter of appeal. The leader of the guards Wang Zhao started swearing and sent me to squat under the hot sun. I refused to cooperate and she and official Sha Xuemei dragged me to the ground and beat me with two electric batons. With every strike of the baton my body felt like it was burning. I couldn't help but convulse. Later, Wang Zhao and Sha Xuemei each held a baton and pressed them against my body for a prolonged period of time. One of the batons was pressed against the sensitive part of my neck. They continuously increased the voltage. I closed my eyes to endure, and finally, I passed out.
I don't know how long I was unconscious. As soon as I woke up they forced me to squat underneath the sun, hold my stomach and stare at my feet. They made one of the prisoners keep an eye on me. If I moved even slightly she would kick me. I continued squatting from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. As the day wore on, whenever the sunlight no longer touched me, the prisoner watching me made me move into the sunlight, so that I was always exposed to the hot sun. During June, it was 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) in Beijing. It only took about two seconds for the sweat dripping down from my forehead to evaporate. My sweat ran out soon, but they still made me squat underneath the sun. If I moved she would kick me, and they didn't give me any water to drink. I squatted until 9 p.m. and finally they let me stand up. My legs were numb by then and I couldn't move for a long time. The mental pain cannot be explained in words.
Part 2:
The following day, I found dark bruises on my arms, under my armpits and on both sides of my chest. It was hard to find a place that wasn't injured. The back of my neck had sustained numerous blisters caused by shocking with the electric batons. My buttocks were covered with blood from injured flesh. I had a big hole in my blue shorts and in my underwear. Since I didn't have any change of clothes, I had to wear these shorts with the big hole that exposed part of my buttocks for over two months. I was finally able to borrow a needle and thread to repair it. I felt humiliated, and have kept the torn clothing as evidence.
From June 1 to July 7, 2000, I was illegally detained for thirty-seven days at the Dispatch Department. With temperatures as high as 100o F, we were not allowed to take a shower or change our clothes. Our shorts were covered with yellow sweat stains and could stand up on the ground if we took them off--they were that stiff. We were only allowed to have two minutes to brush our teeth and to go to the bathroom in the morning and in the evening.
Our room was about eight square feet and with one small window, and we had no air circulation at all. The Dispatch Department would send new people in here twice a week. The newcomers were requested to say, "I committed a crime and I acknowledge my mistake." Otherwise, they would suffer beatings or shocking with the electric baton. Even though the door was closed, we still could hear the screaming coming from the people being tortured, which put us under great mental pressure.
My nerves were so tense that I missed my normal menstruation for over eight months. I also had a terrible time with constipation, which was quite painful. There was another group of practitioners that had stayed there for five months, from early June to the end of September. It was the hottest season in Beijing. They were not allowed to take a shower or change clothes for five months.
Because they arrested so many people, the eight-square-feet room was used to hold up to 20 people. There were only eight beds in the room. The rest of the people could only sleep on the floor and under the beds. There were no places for people on the bed to plant their feet if they wanted to go to the bathroom. The summer clothes stored in the
Dispatch Department were used up, and prisoners who came after July and August had to wear warm fall clothes when the temperature was as high as 104o F. When most of the people were about to have heat strokes, the police finally allowed us to occasionally take off the warm clothes and remain naked in the room, and informed us to put them back on whenever there were any male police officers around or people came.
We sweated heavily daily but didn't have enough water to drink. Sometimes eight people were only given two small bowls of water everyday; other times there was nothing at all. Some practitioners would drink the water for washing our faces in their thirst and heat.
Everyday we were only allowed to have five minutes to eat a meal and had to squat down to do it. It was hard to finish the food in five minutes. If you could not finish it in five minutes, you weren't allowed to finish. Later on, before we were given food, we had to kneel down on one leg, raise up the bowl over our heads deferentially and say loudly, "Reporting to the team leader. Labor camp prisoner XX here to ask for food." If you didn't beg or if you begged in too low a voice, you would not be given any food. Sometimes one would suffer beatings and verbal abuse, too.
Ms. Ren Mei from Jiangsu Province had been on a hunger strike for six days in a detention center before she came to the Dispatch Department. She was forced to squat down directly under the sun and soon fainted. The police responded by using an electric baton to shock her head continually. When they found out that she was unable to move at all, they sent her to the hospital. The doctor said that her pupils had dilated to 1.5 times the normal size. She finally regained consciousness in the hospital after one day and one night.
Because she refused to give up Dafa cultivation, Miss Hou Liwei, 29, was tied to a chair. Several policemen used electric batons to shock her vagina, breasts and head. She lost consciousness for long time and also lost control of her bowels. She couldn't walk for a long time due to her injuries.
Ms. Ma Ronghong was handcuffed to a bed for more than 50 days, which caused the skin and the muscles on her back and buttocks to fester badly. She almost couldn't walk after she was released. During her ordeal, prisoners who were assigned to watch her often straddled her and beat her brutally.
On July 7, 2000, I was sent to the Beijing Tiantang Forced Labor Camp, later called Xin'an Forced Labor Camp. It was used to hold male prisoners. The female labor camp was not able to hold so many female practitioners, so the two were switched. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began, the labor camp expanded from a facility for one hundred prisoners in July 2000 to nearly one thousand in July 2001. When I was released in April 2001, the labor camp held 984 people, and most of them were practitioners. In the No.2 Team, where I was held, only about ten people out of 135 were not practitioners. From the 18 people in the No. 1 class I was assigned to, 17 were practitioners; eight of them were over fifty years old. The oldest one in the team was Ms. Chen Yuzhu, who was 68 years old. The youngest practitioner was only 18 years old. Ms. Wang Li, who was almost blind, and Ms. Wang Yan, disabled in both legs by infantile paralysis, were also detained in the labor camp.
When we were sent to the labor camp, the size of each class was limited to 12 people. Later, since they arrested more and more people, all the possible places for holding people such as the activity room, the library and even the police offices, were emptied to hold practitioners. The basic living facilities such the cafeteria and boiler room were far from meeting the need of expanded people, and the conditions were very poor. During my one year stay in the labor camp, I was only allowed to take a hot shower four times.
Part 3:
At the forced labor camp, we were forced to perform many backbreaking tasks, such as planting grass and trees, collecting garbage, digging underground storage areas, knitting sweaters, knitting seat cushions, making toys, making disposable syringes, and packaging disposable chopsticks, etc. We usually began to work as soon as we got out of bed at 5:30 a.m., and were forced to work till 2 to 3 o'clock the next morning. We sometimes were forced to work through the whole night to meet the work quota. At times when it was really busy, I couldn't even wash my hands after I went to the bathroom. The long hours of labor intensive work resulted in severe sleep deprivation. Most products we made were for export and the processing fee was paid to the labor camp. We did not receive any pay.
The forced labor camp resorted to many different kinds of inhuman methods, such as extending the sentence, solitary confinement, intensive brainwashing, electric shock, prohibiting sleep, beating, physical abuse, and exhausting practitioner's physical strength, etc, to force us to sign the Guarantee Statement of giving up practicing Falun Dafa. They disallowed visits from family, purchasing of basic commodities, using the toilet and toilet paper. They also incited other inmates to hate us and to cause trouble for us. They used our family members to pressure us, and they forced us to read and watch slanderous materials.
The first large group of Falun Gong practitioners at the forced labor camp was sent to the previous location of the women's labor camp on May 26, 2000. The women and men's labor camps switched locations on July 2, 2000. From May 26 to July 2, for the period of over one month, these practitioners were forced to stand facing the wall in the hallway nightly after all other inmates had gone to bed. These practitioners were not allowed to sleep until 4:00 am, and they were roused again at 5:00 am. During the day, they had to dig large holes as deep as a person's height for planting trees. They were allowed only one hour of sleep a day for over a month. While forced to stand in the hallway at night, they often fell asleep, which made their heads hit the wall.
The police often used electric batons to force practitioners to write the Guarantee Statements. The worst torture was when the police stood on top of one's body, holding one side of the head in the mud, and at the same time shocking the person with seven or eight electric batons. For example, the police used four electric batons to shock Ms. Liu Shengpin, a fifty-year old practitioner from Beijing,. Ms. Liu was on the ground with four or five policemen standing on top of her. The electric current, however, was so strong that her body still jerked uncontrollably off the ground. The front and back of her body was covered with burning marks left by the electric batons.
The so-called "intensive training group" was a prison within the prison. It was a special kind of solitary confinement. Dialy, for over ten hours, the person was being confined standing in a room of 3 to 4 square meters in size. Practitioner Ms. Wang Ruirong was still placed in solitary confinement, even after having been tortured through electric shocks. At that time, Ms. Wang's head swelled, her hair fell out, and her face became unrecognizable.
Six Falun Gong practitioners were sent to the men's labor camp (Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp) in December 2000. They were Zhao Ming, student of Trinity College in Ireland, Huang Jian, Li Wanqin, Zhang Dexiu of Beijing, and Zhu Xuanwu from the Northeast (the last practitioner's name is unknown). They endured every imaginable type of torture at Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp, but they still refused to write the Guarantee Statement. Finally, the police sent them to Xinan Forced Labor Camp.
At Xinan Forced Labor Camp, these practitioners were imprisoned with a group of juveniles. These juveniles were between thirteen and eighteen years old. The police forced these juveniles to monitor the practitioners. They also separated the six practitioners and would not allow them to communicate or meet with each other. One time, a boy helped to pass a note between the practitioners and was caught by the police. The boy was shocked with an electric baton. These boys were allowed monthly visits from their parents. In order to prevent the parents from finding out that the boy was being tortured, the police put the electric baton into his mouth to shock him. The boy was having difficulty eating and speaking after being shocked.
In order to force Falun Gong practitioners to write the Guarantee Statements, the police often encouraged other inmates to beat us. Sometimes, they even watched with their arms folded. On November 18, 2000, the team leader of No. 2 Team Wang Zhaofeng just stood by the door watching Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Shuying being beaten by Zhong Xianghong in the team leader's office.
Half yearly, the labor camp held a performance review. Thirty percent of the inmates were given the opportunity to achieve reduced sentences. Falun Gong practitioners were not allowed to participate in this. But the inmates knew that if they could force a practitioner to write a Guarantee Statement, they might receive extra benefits. In order to secure early release or to please the police, some inmates tortured practitioners mentally. For example, a drug addict locked practitioner Ms. Li Yunying (over 40 years old) in a maintenance room and splashed her with over fifty buckets of cold water. The addict also severely beat Li to the point that she couldn't even stand straight for many days. Ms. Li Fulan, who was over fifty years old, was not allowed to use the toilet for three days and three nights. Three other practitioners, He Lin, Hou Liwei, and Sun Hong, were jailed together with the No. 1 Team, which were mainly drug addicts. They were forced to stand in the hallway with a bowl of water on top of their heads. If they spilled only a minute amount of the water, they would be scolded or beaten. At the transfer department or labor camp, one could often see Falun Gong practitioners with blue and purple bruises on their faces.
Since October 2000, the labor camp employed more brutal and more inhuman methods to force Falun Gong practitioners to write the Guarantee Statements. As soon as a practitioner arrived, he/she would be required to write the Guarantee Statement. Those who refused to do so would not be allowed to sleep. At Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp, Beijing practitioner Huang Jian was not allowed to sleep for twelve days and twelve nights straight. In addition to not allowing sleep, those who refused to write the Guarantee Statements were also subjected to beating, physical abuse, and personal attacks. The police used some inmates to continuously speak slanderous words against Falun Gong and its founder to the practitioners. By breaking down a practitioner's determination through applying unbelievable physical and psychological pressure, the police would reach their goal of having the practitioner write the Guarantee Statement. At Xinan Forced Labor Camp where I was jailed, there was a target "transform rate" of 95%. If this target was not met, the responsible police officer(s) would be fined, demoted, or even fired.
Every minute in the labor camp, starting from the moment we arrived, we were under enormous pressure to write the Guarantee Statement to give up Falun Gong. The very first night I was sent to Xinan Forced Labor Camp (July 7, 2000), a unit leader Zhang Ruiming, a Team leader Sun Hui and another officer "talked" with me, one after the other, to force me to write the Guarantee Statement.
We got up at 5:30 am every morning. We either had to do backbreaking work or be forced to listen to materials that slandered Falun Gong and insulted us. After listening to these "educational materials", we had to write reports and discuss our "understanding" with the police.
Part 4
Later, I was placed in Class 5 of the Second Division at Xinan Labor Camp. When Gu Fengrong, the head of Class 5, learned that the six of us Falun Gong practitioners who had been transferred to Class 5 did not sign the so-called "Guarantee Statement" [to give up practicing Falun Gong] she did not allow us to sleep. She also arranged inmates to take turns to keep watch on us, until we gave in.
On the first night, Gu kept watch on us. On the second night, it was inmate Zhang Fengxue. She kicked whoever moved, even including Wang Li who was blind.
After being deprived of sleep for two nights, I was in a daze. During the daytime, we were forced to do intensive labor or sweater knitting. Sometimes, we were forced to attend the "seminar" in the auditorium that defamed Dafa. There were policemen around with electric batons. I always felt weak and extremely nauseous. As soon as I relaxed my mind, I would collapse. Almost all the time, I felt I was living in a risky situation. I was on the edge of losing control of my main consciousness.
On the third day, because of our strong protest, police stopped that kind of torture. However, they just changed to a different kind. After laboring for one day, when we were about to go to bed (which was usually midnight or later), police would select one or a few of us. They then forced the practitioner(s) to stand still for a long period of time, or transcribe materials that defamed Dafa until 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning. Within about one hour after we were finally allowed to go to bed, it was already time to get up to start work again. Some practitioners could no longer bear it, and signed the "Guarantee Statement."
One day during the last week in September 2000, police suddenly sent all people who did not sign the "Guarantee Statement" to the Second Division except me, who they sent to the "Enforced Class," which was said to be a vicious place. The strong feeling of fear once again hit me, and it almost made me collapse. It was the first time that I was separated from other practitioners, and I had to spend one week in fear and loneliness while knitting the sweaters. On September 29, 2000, those practitioners were sent back. Their hair was messy. Some had a dull look, with a strange expression in their eyes as if they did not recognize me. Since then, no matter how many times they came across me, they never acted as if they recognized me. Some of them were tortured and forced to sign the "Guarantee Statement" at the "Enforced Class."
That night, Cheng Cuie, assistant head of the Second Division, asked 5 or 6 inmates to bring me into the police office. They did not allow me to sleep nor sit down. In addition, these people subjected me to a torture session that lasted all night. These people cursed me and slandered Falun Gong throughout the night. They said that as long as I did not sign the "Guarantee Statement," they would continue to do this, and that all people had to sign the "Guarantee Statement" in October.
On October 10, 2000, I felt it was too much for me to bear, so under pressure, I signed the Statement to give up practicing Falun Gong. My grief was beyond description. As I went out of the police office, I was so faint that I had to lean on the wall to avoid falling down. At that moment, I felt as if all my life, and all the essence of my life, immediately left me. Only an empty shell was left with me. It was as if I had a mental disorder, and I kept saying, "I have been 'transformed', I have been 'transformed'..." The persecution in the forced labor camp was so vicious that it was beyond what any ordinary person could bear or imagine. As for those practitioners who were forced to sign the "Guarantee Statement," the enormous mental suffering was beyond description. Right now, I have been out of the labor camp for more than two years, but I still have not completely walked out of the shadow of once being forced to betray my belief.
On May 11, 2000, more than twenty practitioners were sent to Chongwen District Detention Center, where I was being held. Among them was a 45-year-old practitioner from Heilongjiang Province. He was detained in the 3rd Cell of the 1st East Alley. After going on a hunger strike for 11 or 12 days, he was taken to the hospital to be force-fed, but he died on the way there. Among the 6 practitioners I mentioned earlier who were sent to the Xinan Detention Center, there was a practitioner called Li Wanqing. Mei Yulan, Li Wanqing's wife, also died in Chaoyang Detention Center in Beijing.
After I was sent to the forced labor camp, my husband kept asking around for my whereabouts, but was unable to obtain any information for 4 months. When he finally was able to see me in the labor camp after 4 months, he was in tears upon seeing my situation. He was so sad on the way back that he was unable to drive. He had to park the car by the road, and lie in the car for a very long time before he was able to continue driving. Thinking of the suffering I was experiencing in the labor camp, my mother-in-law was often in tears. My daughter, who was still very young, could not understand at all why her mother was sent to a place that is meant for bad people.
At the end of 2000, a new policy stated that a mayor would be dismissed from his post if more than 6 Falun Gong practitioners in that area went to Beijing to appeal. My parents worked for a local company called the Chaoyang Machinery Plant. The director of that plant was dismissed because the number of Falun Gong practitioners in his plant who went to Beijing to appeal had exceeded Jiang Zemin's regimes ordered limit.
Jiang Zemin's regime also took every opportunity to brainwash people even including children. After I left the labor camp, one day I saw a note on the table left by my 8-year old daughter that read, "Mom, I suggest you to stop practicing Falun Gong. Please read this book." It was a book that students in her school had received. It contained all kinds of vicious defaming and despicable lies. When I tried to tell my daughter that her mother was a good person, and all the propaganda were all lies, she was in despair and said, "I know my mother is a good person, but on TV they say all Falun Gong practitioners are bad. I do not know who I should believe."
My uncle is a teacher in a high school. The school's Party Secretary asked all classes in the school to hold meetings with topics attacking Falun Gong. The Party Secretary even said in public that, "No means are too extreme to persecute Falun Gong [practitioners]."
All together, this persecution, that started more than 4 years ago, targets tens of millions of Falun Gong practitioners who practice "Truth, Compassion and Tolerance." It utilizes all the apparatuses of the nation, and its viciousness is unprecedented and unimaginable. It is also a disgrace to the whole of mankind. I sincerely hope international human rights organizations and overseas governments could initiate an independent investigation of Falun Gong practitioners' situation in China, and urge the Chinese government to immediately stop this brutal persecution. By doing that, tens of millions of Falun Gong practitioners and their families could be rescued from the devastation they are now experiencing.
I also hope that courts in all countries will bring Jiang Zemin to justice for the genocide of Falun Gong practitioners, since he is the person who is most directly responsible for this state-run terrorism. By doing this, we can safeguard the dignity of the law and the justice of humankind.
In April 2001, after I was released from the labor camp, police asked me to attend the brainwashing class to force other practitioners to give up their belief. In order not to do such disgraceful things, I was forced to leave home 5 days after being released. Since then, I have been unable to return home. I have not been able to live together with my family for 4 years, and the mental suffering my family has experienced is beyond financial remedy. I hope the court will reach a verdict according to the law, so that similar tragedies will no longer take place.

(Clearwisdom.net) On August 26, a Chinese delegation led by Jia Qinlin, committee member of the Chinese Politburo and Chair of the Chinese Political Cooperation Committee, began a four-day visit to South Korea. When Korean Falun Gong practitioners heard the news, they gathered in front of New Radisson Hotel Seoul where Jia and his delegation would reside, and held a peaceful appeal.

The practitioners unfurled banners that stated, "Bring Jiang, Luo, Liu, Zhou to Justice," and "Falun Dafa is Good." Other practitioners practiced the exercises and distributed flyers to passers-by to clarify the truth about Falun Dafa and the persecution in China. Jia and his entourage didn't arrive until 5 o'clock in the evening. Finally, the practitioners were told that the Chinese visitors had already entered the hotel from the back door.
The next day (August 27), Falun Gong practitioners arrived at the hotel early and waited at every exit and intersection around the hotel. When Jia's motorcade passed by, they unfurled the banner. In the evening, more practitioners joined the appeal and the number of practitioners outside the hotel was close to one hundred. The peaceful activity ended after 9 p.m.
Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Lin said that the purpose of the appeal was to send a message to Jia Qinlin, to let him know that anyone who followed Jiang's regime to persecute Falun Gong would only end up victimized by Jiang in the end. The people who were pressured by Jiang to commit crimes against Falun Gong needed wake up immediately and recognize their mistake. They should align themselves with justice and uphold righteousness for the Chinese nation and for themselves, and help to end the persecution of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance."
It is reported that Korean practitioners in other cities also initialized a series of appeals during Jia's visit, until the delegation left Korea.
(Clearwisdom.net) Clearwisdom reporter Wang Ying reports: On August 27, 2004, the reporter once again boarded a flight to New York after being away from the City for 13 years. The trip left a deep impression.
New York deserves to be called the center for finance. While on the plane, a middle-aged man sitting beside the reporter began reading the Wall Street Journal as soon as he boarded the plane. I saw the news about the Olympic Games in the newspaper, and began talking to the man. I learned that the man lives in New York, and works at a financial company of the GE. When he learned that the Jiang's regime has been using foreign investment to persecute Falun Gong and has caused more than 1,000 deaths as a result of the persecution, he expressed that it's hard to comprehend such things still happen in today's China. He hoped our activities in New York would be successful.
On Saturday, I went to Manhattan. Between Lexington Avenue and 59th Street there was an anti-torture exhibit. The exhibit was located at the entrance to the subway so streams of people passed by. I saw many practitioners explaining the facts about Falun Gong to passersby. The practitioners expressed that it was not enough to only hand out materials, they felt they should explain to the passersby as well.

I noticed that some passersby accepted materials from practitioners and walked forward for a while, and then returned to ask the practitioners what Falun Gong is.
A man heard practitioners' explanation about the torture and expressed that "It is too brutal. I hope you will continue your efforts." He shook hands with practitioners.

Beside the torture exhibit between Lexington Avenue and 59th Street, a woman listened carefully to practitioners' explanation of Falun Gong's persecution launched by Jiang's regime, and then asked practitioners if she could take photos of the torture exhibit, she said she would save them on her computer. She also signed the petition.
Some people walked directly to the petition letter, signed their names and left. When practitioners asked them why, they answered that they have learned about the persecution of Falun Gong in China.
A young woman signed her own name on the yellow cloth, and then signed a few more names. When being asked why, she said, "I not only sign my own name, I also want to sign all names in my family, because I don't want such persecution happen on them."
New York Residents Hope More People Learn the Facts about Falun Gong
On Sunday, in New York's Central Park, we met two men. One of them said they saw on a Wisconsin TV program that a teacher from China introduced how she was tortured in China. The teacher also teaches the Falun Gong exercises on TV. The man followed her to do the movements, and he said he felt strong energy at the time. He had had some understanding of Falun Gong. This time, he saw Falun Gong practitioners again, and he took the initiative to invite practitioners to have a photo taken with them. They expressed that they would begin practice Falun Gong after they returned home.
In the morning, practitioners held torture exhibits nearby Broadway Avenue and 72nd Street in Manhattan. In the past few days, due to practitioners' persistent truth clarification, many residents have learned the truth about Falun Gong, and given their support for practitioners' activities. An older woman came to the torture exhibit and said to practitioners, "Many residents have obtained your materials, and have learned the truth. I support you. You can go to more places and let more people learn the facts."
People's Kindness Gradually Awakens
Some passersby saw practitioners reenacting the torture methods used in China. They could not bear seeing practitioners being locked up in the cage, and repeatedly asked practitioners if they were tired, and if it was painful being tied to the chair. They suggested practitioners to take turns doing so, and drink more water and take more rest in such a hot weather. One woman said she could not imagine how it is in China's prison.
The woman learned the truth and expressed that we should have held such torture exhibit long ago so as to help more people learn the truth.
More people asked how they could help after learning the truth. When practitioners expressed that we only hoped they could learn the truth, and spread the truth to more people, they were moved.
Some people put money at where the truth clarification materials were placed and left.
Practitioners Can be Seen Everywhere in New York on the Weekend
A practitioner from Taiwan said she went to three cloth shops where everyone knew Falun Gong practitioners. One practitioner wore a yellow T-shirt with words, "Falun Gong." When he met people on the streets, they told him, "We saw many Falun Gong practitioners in Battery Park, there are thousands of Falun Gong practitioners on the streets."
When the reporter in a yellow T-shirt took the subway, also met a passenger who asked what Falun Gong is. When the passenger got the answer, she happily told her partner. When the reporter was about to board the flight at the airport, some passengers saw yellow T-shirt, and wanted to learn what Falun Gong is. They left happily after getting the answer.
During this truth clarification in New York, the reporter knew that many practitioners came to New York from overseas or other states in the US, they overcame many difficulties, from early morning to late night, many practitioners kept handing out flyers and clarifying the truth without having time to have a lunch. With everyone's effort, the truth is gradually winning over the hearts of more and more New York residents.
(Clearwisdom.net) On Sunday August 29, 2004,, the sixth UK Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Conference was held in England's capital, London. The venue was the Columbia Hotel, in which the first UK conference was held in 1999, just after the persecution of Falun Dafa in Mainland China began. At that time, practitioners were unsure how to proceed in the face of the vicious persecution launched by Jiang Zemin, but after five years of diligent progress, the difference is profound. The conference this year reflected how practitioners have been tempered to maturity and are able to face the persecution and reveal the facts more and more clear-headedly and rationally.
The conference room was decorated with flowers and banners and a picture of Master Li was prominently displayed above the podium where practitioners gave their speeches. Those in attendance were from England, Scotland and Wales, as well as Poland and other European countries. This year, the majority of the sharings were by western practitioners. Fourteen practitioners from all over the UK discussed the experiences and understandings that they have gained through cultivating in Falun Dafa during the Fa-rectification. Practitioners commented how many speeches were striking for their honesty and openness and the willingness to come to terms with shortcomings and past mistakes and handle them correctly as a cultivator.

(Clearwisdom.net) On August 22, 2004, Falun Dafa practitioners from Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast areas participated in the 26th annual Yandina Street Festival, the longest running fair on the Sunshine Coast. The festive atmosphere of Maroochy Shire's oldest township provided an ideal opportunity to present the beauty and splendour of Falun Dafa.
Demonstrations of the exercises were presented beside our stall throughout the day and countless people gathered to watch our displays and receive information on Dafa. Practitioners were continuously very busy offering truth-clarifying material to the many who expressed interest in Dafa and concern for the plight of practitioners in China.
In the afternoon, we held a 20-minute demonstration of the exercises on the street stage followed by a 40-minute presentation of singing and traditional Chinese dancing on the main stage in front of hundreds of interested onlookers. Our local singing group "One World" consisting of western practitioners took to the stage and sing some of their beautiful and original compositions, bringing to the audience an awareness of the situation practitioners are facing in China. Their final song "Returning" celebrated the nature of returning to our true selves through our cultivation journey in Dafa. Also featured were two young Chinese practitioners who coloured the stage and delighted the audience with their ornate costumes and graceful dancing.
Many hearts that day were indeed touched by Dafa through our artistic displays, receiving information on Dafa and conversing with practitioners. A number of people also attended our exercise sites over the following days after seeing our presentations at the festival.
(Clearwisdom.net) Two large Falun Gong banners and the beautiful Falun symbol were displayed on the main road coming into the town. About fifteen Falun Dafa practitioners, both Chinese and westerners, participated in the events on Saturday and Sunday. Four female practitioners presented a traditional Chinese fan dance, which received warm applause from the festival-goers. The five exercises of Falun Dafa were also demonstrated. The spectators seemed just as captivated by the slow moving exercises as they were by the colorful fan dancing. Many passers-by made enquires as to how and where they could learn the exercises in Ireland.
At a stall on the seafront the practitioners taught people how to fold paper lotus flowers and distributed as many as three hundred to the public. They explained that the particular significance of the lotus flower is as an allegory for practicing cultivation: A pure, pristine flower which emerges only from the muddiest ground. The Chinese calligraphy stall, where passers by had their names written in Chinese as a memento, was also well received.
While people were learning more about the Falun Gong cultivation practice, they also learned about the ongoing persecution in China. The case of Ms Yang Fang, a student in the picturesque town of Dun Laoghaire whose education in Ireland was cut short due to the persecution, was particularly relevant to those at the Dun Laoghaire festival. Her passport was confiscated because of her refusal to renounce her belief in Falun Gong and she has been unable to return to Ireland. Many hundreds of signatures were collected on a petition to have her human rights restored and allow her the opportunity to come back to her studies.

(Clearwisdom.net) Jiang Zemin visited Germany in April 2002. He made himself look foolish in Sachsen, Dresden because he was afraid of seeing Falun Gong practitioners who wore yellow T-shirts. He even violated the laws in Germany and asked the police to beat people who practice Falun Gong. In August 2002, the famous Elbe River flooded, which caused a loss of nearly three billion Euros for the wealthiest state of Eastern Germany. The state of Sachsen was thrown into chaos. The busiest city festival, which is usually held every year, was thus forced to cancel.
Two years later, local practitioners joined the city festival
once again. They had learned lessons from their previous experiences and this
year made a more complete preparation. They applied for permission for two
stands in different places. They were invited to demonstrate the five sets of
Falun Gong exercises, as well as other traditional performances on the stage
beside Elbe River four times for thirty to forty-five minutes each time. As well
as performing the exercises, practitioners from nearby areas enlisted dance and
waist-drum teams to demonstrate the goodness and vitality of Falun Dafa. Many
people signed to support the lawsuit against the instigator of the persecution
against Falun Gong, former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin.

About five hundred thousand people joined the city festival.
Although many people visited the stands, there were still many
people who did not have the chance to come. Practitioners paraded
along the busiest street displaying a traditional Chinese
waist-drum performance. Other practitioners distributed materials
alongside them. The dance teams performed and the practitioners
demonstrated the exercises on the grass bank of the Elbe River.
People understand the facts
After seeing the beauty of the exercises or appreciating the performances of the dancers and the waist-drum team, people asked for beautiful bookmarks and signed their names on a petition calling for an end to the persecution. Many people went to the Falun Gong stands to ask for information about the exercise sites and some learned the exercises on the spot. The sound engineer showed great interest after watching practitioners' performances. He was enthusiastic to learn about Falun Dafa more deeply.
In the process of applying for the stands,
there was also interference, but practitioners kept strong
righteous thoughts. They brought along a laptop computer and
showed a film detailing the goodness of Dafa and the persecution
of practitioners in China to the festival sponsors. Thus, a
meeting that was originally supposed to be quite short lasted for
about forty minutes. The meeting was successful. Whoever they met,
they told them the facts. When receiving practitioners' phone
calls, some working staff would pleasantly say, "Falun Dafa!"
They wanted to cooperate with their activities, and asked them
again and again to demonstrate the exercises in front of the
stands

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Lu Caixia is 50 years old. She used to be a teacher at the 8th Elementary School of Langfang City. Five of her family members practiced Falun Gong. Since July 20, 1999, the beginning of the persecution of Falun Gong by the Jiang Zemin regime, her family has suffered a great deal. Her brother was choked to death during force feeding torture. Her younger sisters were sentenced to prison and forced labor camp. Her son was cruelly tortured to the brink of death. Ms. Lu was dismissed from her job at the school and was detained many times. The following is the story of Ms. Lu and her family.
Outstanding teacher expelled and detained many times
Ms. Lu Caixia began to practice Falun Gong in 1995. Once practicing Falun Gong, all her illnesses were cured. Since then her family-life became harmonious. At work, she followed the Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance principles taught by Falun Gong. She was even awarded the "Outstanding Teacher Award."
Since the beginning of the persecution in July of 1999, Ms. Lu Caixia has been detained many times simply because she refused to renounce Falun Dafa. In October of 1999, she traveled for the first time to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. She was detained for a month. During that period of time her students missed her sorely.
Once Ms. Lu Caixia regained her freedom and returned back to the classroom, her students applauded extensively, welcoming back their teacher. Soon afterwards, her students realized that their beloved teacher would have to leave them again, and it was possible that she would not be able return. They all came to her office and asked for her signature. During that time, every time the class was over, many students surrounded her and asked her to say some words to comfort them.
On April 21, 2000, the policemen from the Xinkai Road Police Station came to the school and asked Ms. Lu to guarantee that she would refrain from appealing, but she refused. Therefore, she was sent back to the detention center. On April 25, the principal of her school was notified by the Supervision Bureau of the Anci District of Langfang City that if she maintained her belief in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance," she would be dismissed from her job.
She was locked up in the detention center for almost two months. During this detention period she was transferred to the Bazhou Detention Center in Langfang City. Because she practiced the exercises, the guards cruelly beat her. After the detained practitioners went on a group hunger strike in protest of their unlawful detainment, she was released.
On October 1, 2000, Ms. Lu Caixia traveled again to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. After being detained, she was able to get free with strong righteous thoughts. To resist the persecution and avoid being arrested again, she had to leave her home and go from one place to another.
On New Year Day of 2001, she went to Tiananmen Square to tell people the truth of Falun Dafa. She was arrested and taken to the Panggezhuang Police Station of Daxing County in Beijing City. After she went on a 3-day hunger strike, she was released.
On May 9, 2001, Ms. Lu Caixia was arrested when she was hanging banners in Shenzhen City. Without legal justification, she was sentenced to 3 years of forced labor and detained at the Sanshui Women's Forced Labor Camp in Guangdong Province. During that time, Lu Caixia had to endure brainwashing sessions. Because she firmly believed in Teacher and Falun Dafa, she refused to take part in any form of persecution, including the brainwashing session and the forced labor. Consequently, she was frequently beaten, insulted, not allowed to use bathroom, and monitored daily, without any relief.
One night, Ms. Lu Caixia was forced to go downstairs and watch a so-called news program from the Chinese Central TV Station. When seeing the hundreds of detained Falun Gong practitioners in the room, Ms. Lu Caixia suddenly stood up and spoke loudly, "Fellow practitioners, we should follow Teacher's teaching and not be deceived by these slanderous lies. We didn't break any law. They should give us our freedom back. Falun Dafa is great!"
Every one was shocked by her speech. What followed was a horrible scene. Wang, the head of a brigade, who was in charge of brainwashing, and 7 or 8 collaborators (1) attacked her. They beat her cruelly and cursed at her. Some covered her mouth and some pulled her hair. Ms. Lu shouted out again, "Fellow practitioners have a look. This is their so-called 'compassion.'"
Wang roared, "Bring her outside for me!" Then the 7 or 8 collaborators pushed Ms. Lu into the corridor, kicking and beating her at the same time. She was pushed down to the ground and then dragged by her collar from the first floor to the third floor. She nearly choked to death. From that time on, she was constantly monitored. Ms. Lu Caixia went on a hunger strike many times. Her health was seriously damaged. She suffered from high blood pressure and cerebral arteriosclerosis, which is a serious condition that can lead to a stroke. She finally was released on bail.
Lu Caixia's younger brother choked to death while being force-fed
Ms. Lu Caixia's brother, Lu Chenglin, was 38 years old. He used to live at Jinshantun District of the Yichun City, Heilongjang Province. Everyone who ever knew him said that he was an honest and kind-hearted person. After he began practicing Falun Dafa, he became an even better person. On July 20, 1999, a few Falun Gong assistants from his district were arrested. He and some other practitioners went to the local government to ask for the reason. Instead of a response, they were arrested by local policemen. Then he was sentenced to 2-? years of forced labor. The reason they used was "disturbing social order," although they had not used any improper language nor had they behaved inappropriately. He was detained at the Forced Labor Camp of Yichun City.
During the detention, the police guards were cruelly torturing all steadfast Falun Gong practitioners. The tortures included: handcuffed and hung up (2), beating, criticizing, sleep deprivation for days, electric shock torture, inciting criminals to beat them, suffocation with a plastic bag over the head, and force feedings.
During the 2001 Chinese New Years Eve, Lu Chenglin began another hunger strike. On the third day of the hunger strike he was taken to the bathroom by 7 or 8 people. They force-fed him there. They used a shoe brush to pry his mouth open. They broke his teeth and his mouth was full of blood. He was choked to death.
Yang Chunzuo, the director of the forced labor camp, claimed that Mr. Lu Chenglin died of heart disease right at the beginning of his incarceration. He attempted to send his body for cremation immediately, but Mr. Lu's mother did not give permission. The relatives found that his body was covered with injuries. The reason they gave for his death did not make any sense. Then Yang Chunzuo made up another lie. He claimed that Mr. Lu committed suicide by throwing himself against a metal heater.
Ms. Lu's younger sister unlawfully sentenced to 10 years in prison
Ms. Lu Caixia's sister, Lu Fengling, is 35 years old. In 1995 she suffered from psoriasis. Her suffering was so bad that she did not want to live. On August 1995, she began practicing Falun Dafa. After only 3 months, her illness was cured without medical treatment. To clarify the truth and validate the Fa she went many times to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. She was unlawfully detained many times. In July 2001, her home was illegally searched, as she was discovered to be printing truth-clarifying materials. She was given a 10-year sentence without any legal procedure. She was first detained at the Taihang Prison of Mancheng City, Hebei Province. Because she refused to give in, she was recently transferred to Shijiazhuang Prison, where she suffered further torture. Unconfirmed news indicated that her health has deteriorated badly. The prison authorities have refused visitation rights to her relatives for more than six months
Another of Lu Caixia's younger sisters' received a 1-?year sentence to a forced labor camp. There she is being forced to undergo relentless brainwashing.
The prison guards said about Ms. Lu's son, Yan Sitong, "If he dies, he has to die in the forced labor camp."
Yan Sitong is Lu Caixia's son. He refused to give up Falun Gong and was forced to leave the affiliated Middle School of Tianjing Art College in September of 1999. At that time he was not even 18 years old. Afterwards he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. On November 1 of 1999, he was captured and brought back to Langfang Detention Center. He was illegally detained for one month.
On February 12, 2000, he was sentenced to forced labor camp because he went to Tiananmen Square to clarify the truth to the visitors again. He was detained at the Wangzhuang Forced Labor Camp where he was forced to work for 17 to 18 hours daily. Sometimes he had to work for over 20 hours a day and was only allowed to sleep for 2 or 3 hours. Later he began a hunger strike and suffered from acute pancreatitis and stomach troubles. He was released on bail.
On the night of September 30, 2000, when he was visiting his aunt, suddenly ten policemen forced their way in and arrested him. They sent him to the Wangzhuang Forced Labor Camp. He refused to cooperate with the perpetrators and went on a hunger strike for 8 days. His life was in great danger. Then he was released and sent back home.
On May 9, 2001, he was captured in Shenzhen City. He again went on a hunger strike. Later he was brought back to Wangzhuang Forced Labor Camp in Longfeng City and tortured. During the 49-day hunger strike he was tied on a wood board and had to suffer forced feedings. The plastic tube was inserted into his stomach for over two weeks. Due to the heat and humidity, his body was covered with scabies. He itched all over, but both his hands were handcuffed to the bed. He couldn't even turn his body. He was emaciated and was in a comatose state for most of the time.
After his relatives found out, they requested that the forced labor camp release him. But the police guards said, "Even he dies, we will not release him. If he dies, he has to die here. We already prepared a 'Death Statement' for him."
Later Yan Sitong was transferred to the Forced Labor Camp of Handan City and was persecuted further. This is the persecution and torture that a high school student suffered.
Lu Caixia's husband was not a practitioner. Because his wife and son are Falun Gong practitioners, he was suspended from his job for over six months. The policemen of the local police station, his place of employment and other officials harassed him continuously. The officials from his workplace asked him to divorce his wife. They also extorted over 4,000 yuan (3) from him. During the past several years he suffered tremendous mental pressure.
The above is a clear indication as to how Jiang's regime persecutes a family simply for believing in Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance.
Note:
(1). Collaborators: Formerly Falun Dafa practitioners, they have turned against Falun Dafa during the persecution and assist in persecuting Dafa practitioners.
(2). Cuffed and hung up - With both hands cuffed, both feet off or only toes touching the ground, one is hung onto the basketball support or the beam of the house with the handcuff. The hands and arms will soon become paresthetic and numb.
(3). yuan - 500 yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China

(Clearwisdom.net) When I was jailed in the Shizishan Forced Labor Camp in Wuhan City, I personally experienced its slave-like conditions. In that camp, the imprisoned practitioners suffer physical and mental torture, economic exploitation, and personal humiliation.
Of the four squadrons in the camp, the second and third each jailed several hundred Falun Gong practitioners. Camp authorities forced the prisoners to make tinfoil sheets by hand, which is harmful to one's health. They have to prick open the machine-pressed tinfoil paper with a bamboo stick, then manually press the tinfoil onto yellow paper using an anvil. The finished products are for overseas markets. Each of us had to complete two thousand pieces everyday. However, some of the jailed practitioners were too old to complete their quota, and some with poor eyesight couldn't make a perfect product. This meant that they would be physically punished at night. They were subjected to beatings, starvation, sleep deprivation, and other physical tortures such as standing absolutely still for extended periods, bending over with the arms stretched high backward in the "flying the airplane" position and "digging the wall corner" (see Appendix below). In addition, the camp fined them from dozens to hundreds of yuan, depending on the percentage of their quota left unfinished. Some were beaten or cursed at in the shop.
Several hundred people were confined in the shop, where no fans are allowed and no window can be opened in order to prevent the paper from blowing away. We had to eat dinner in the shop, even though tin powder pervaded the air, mixing with the bad food and getting into our lungs with each breath and jeopardizing our health. After working for fifteen hours everyday, the steadfast practitioners or those who didn't finish the quota would be abused or tortured by the guards. The guards used every means imaginable to shorten the sleeping time for the Falun Gong practitioners. They forced the practitioners to wipe the floor with their hands or remove some tough dirt with their bare hands. If someone's attention faltered for a single moment, that person would be cursed and beaten.
Appendix:
1. "Dig the wall corner"
This is one of the most common tortures in forced labor camps. Facing the wall with both arms kept behind, the victim's head must lean against the corner of the wall. Then the victim must step back until his/her body forms a 45-degree angle with the wall. (The body, the floor and the wall create a right triangle, with the body forming the hypotenuse.) The victim is forced to remain in this position for hours and eventually causes a groove in the victim's forehead deep enough to insert a pen. The victim is soaked with sweat or even falls unconscious. Those who cannot maintain the posture are beaten and kicked.
2. Squat down
Another common torture in forced labor camps, this posture looks simple but maintaining it for a long period of time is harmful enough to cause permanent damage. The victim is forced to squat down with the left leg extended and the right shin and thigh forming a 90 degree angle, the right thigh parallel to the ground, both hands on both knees, no contact between feet and hip, the upper half of the body kept straight and still. The victim is forced to keep the posture unless using the toilet or eating dinner. If the torture lasts a long time, it will injure the victim's muscles and nerves, and cause permanent damage. The inmates beat or kick the practitioner if he/she changes the posture even a little bit.
3. Bridge
This is one of the tortures used by Group 3 in the Sayang Forced Labor Camp. With the victim lying flat on the ground, the perpetrators stack four or five bricks at either end of the victim. The victim becomes a board supported by two piles of bricks at each end. The victim is forced to keep his/her body absolutely straight, suspended in the air, for long periods of time. If the victim relaxes the posture even a little bit, the guards will beat him/her with belts or electric batons.

(Clearwisdom.net) In May 2004, the "610 Office" in Tianhe, a district of Guangzhou City, abducted two Falun Dafa practitioners named Chen Chunli and Gao Dandi. The apartment that they rented in Dongpu Tianhong Garden of the Tianhe district in Guangzhou City was searched. The police confiscated their computer, laptop, cash and other property.
Dafa practitioners Chen Chunli and Gao Dandi were abducted from the Tianhe District of Guangzhou
Chen Chunli was sent to the Tianhe Brainwashing Class in Guangzhou City. In July 2004, she was transferred to the Tianhe Detention Center in Guangzhou City. Another Dafa practitioner named Gao Xianmin was persecuted to death in this detention center in 1999. It was said that Chen Chunli was arrested and sent to the procurator for trial. In May 2004, Gao Dandi was illegally sent to the so-called Chatou Legal System School, which is actually a brainwashing class in Guanzhou City. He has been steadfast and refused to cooperate or be transformed. In June 2004, he escaped from the brainwashing class with righteous thoughts.
The relatives and friends of Chen Chunli and Gao Dandi were also threatened. Because nobody knew Chen Chunli's situation, Gao Dandi came back to Guanzhou and hoped to rescue Chen Chunli. However the "610 Office" didn't leave him alone. On July 31, 2004, Gao Dandi left home to escape persecution and his whereabouts are unknown as of today. On August 1, 2004, his family was informed by the "610 Office" that Gao Dandi had been abducted again.
Gao Xueqi (childhood nickname Dongdong) is one and half years old. Since his mother, Chen Chunli, and his father, Gao Dandi, were abducted, his maternal grandparents were devastated both spiritually and physically, and their economic situation is not good and they are unable to raise the child. They had to send him to his paternal grandparents' home in Chongqing City. The former workplace of his grandparents is in bad shape financially, and they survive by relying on social insurance.
Since their son and daughter-in-law were abducted, this old couple has been upset and their health is getting steadily worse and they have no energy to raise this poor child. Each time Dongdong asks about his father and mother, the paternal grandparents only have a tearful look and cannot tell him the truth.
We urgently appeal to kind-hearted righteous people from all over the world to give your love to this young child! He is innocent! Because of his parents' belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance," their relatives and friends also suffer from the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners! They urgently need your support and help!

Around July 20th, 2004, officials in Qingzhou City of Weifang Area, Shandong Province illegally sentenced six practitioners, the longest sentence being nine years.
A list of the sentenced practitioners:
Mr. Xu Hongliang: Born in June 1948 in Qianxu Village of Koubu Town in Qianzhou City. He once worked as the village secretary. In January 2000, due to appealing in Beijing for Falun Gong, he was detained for fifteen days. After going to Beijing to appeal in December of 2000, he was sentenced to three years of forced labor, and he was put in the Changle Labor Camp. He suffered for over one month of either being not allowed to sleep at all, or only being allowed to sleep for at most two hours. After getting out of labor camp in February of 2004, he was illegally seized. Then in July, he was sentenced to nine years of severe punishment.
Mr. Dong Chuanyan: Born in June 1948 in Banjielou Village in Tanfan Town of Qianzhou City. He was illegally seized in March, 2004. In July, he was sentenced to nine years of severe punishment.
Ms. Li Xiuying: Born in September 1946 in Changle City, Shandong Province and living in Banjielou Village in Tanfan Town of Qianzhou City. She was illegally seized in March, 2004. In July, she was sentenced to nine years of severe punishment.
Ms. Dong Guiwen: Born in November 1958 and living in Zhujia Village in Koubu Town of Qingzhou City. In December 1999, she was detained for 15 days for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. In November 2001, she was sentenced to 3 years of forced labor education. In February 2004, she was illegally seized, shortly after she was released from the labor camp. Then, in July, she was sentenced to four years of severe punishment.
Mr. Wang Yuhong: Born in January 1962, and living in Sunban Village in Koubu Town of Qingzhou City. In February 2004, he was illegally seized. Then, in July, he was sentenced to seven years of severe punishment.

(Clearwisdom.net) After the Sixteenth Party Congress in November 2002, the authorities at the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp in Guangdong Province created a "concentration camp" atmosphere and tortured more than 20 Dafa practitioners held there with around-the-clock physical and mental abuse.
The guards created an atmosphere of terror among the Dafa practitioners. The Guangdong Province "610 Office," the Provincial Judicial Department, the Provincial Labor Reeducation Bureau all sent special dispatchers to the labor camp and Ma Liming, Sanshui Forced Labor Camp's assistant warden and Wang Jialiang, the former head of the Education Section, went to the camp. Zhang Qingmei, head of the Special Control Division and Chen Ruixiong, the deputy head of the same division, took on the position as the head and deputy head of this "camp within a camp." Ye Xiujia, the deputy head of the Education Section, directed the mistreatment, intimidation, mental terror and torture under this newly ordered persecution, and the guards along with inmates joined in.

The second session was from late March 2003 to past September 2003. This time the perpetrators used "soft" methods. They first forced the practitioners to stand or squat for one week or two, during which time the practitioners were not allowed to sleep. Then they threw practitioners who remained steadfast in their belief into solitary confinement cells and shocked them with electric batons.
The second group of Dafa practitioners include:
Li Yuandong (Maoming)

The third camp session was from around the 2004 Chinese New Year until now. This time these perpetrators call the concentration camp Division Three.
As of July 22, 2003, division head Zhang Qingmei had been transferred, and the thoroughly planned acts of persecution went with him. Because of the reduction in pressure, some people who had previously gone astray returned to Dafa.
As of January 1, 2004, only five or six practitioners out of the more than 50 practitioners had renounced their belief, and more than 20 practitioners stepped forward to validate Dafa. The rest refused to cooperate with the evildoers. The labor camp felt threatened and desperately intensified its tactics and planned for them to be used long-term. They now call it Division Three and use it for the special purpose of torturing determined Dafa practitioners.
As of January 3, 2004, Wen and other newly dispatched guards arrived at Division Three. After the Chinese New Year, another large-scale campaign of abuse and mistreatment began. Some of the practitioners who had been sent to the camp for the third time include:
Zhong Qirong (Yunfu)
Xu Chuiliang (Shantou)
Deng Gui (Dianbai)
Wu Liangfa (Shantou)
Sun Jiefeng (Jieyang)

(Clearwisdom.net) Many clear-minded people around the world know about the hidden problems in China, and many of these people are investors in China. They resent the widespread corruption and other issues that exist in China, but they cannot find a solution. Many of these people went to China with good intentions.
The most typical way of thinking for these people is: "Yes, I know human rights and the rule of law are practically non-existent in China, corruption is everywhere, and most people live in abject poverty, but I want to help them with my investment! Didn't we peacefully reform the former Soviet Union? What else can I do besides this?"
Some China investors and dealmakers may not regard profit as their top priority, and some of them have the desire to uphold justice and work for the betterment of mankind. Even if they lose all of their money in China they may think, "At least I did something for the poor people there. My money helped change China in at least a small way." These investors may rarely speak up about or condemn the Chinese government when they lose their money, and the evil takes advantage of their good intentions, just as it takes advantage of the goodness of Dafa practitioners.
In fact, all people who care about the future are concerned about China. They are exhausting all means, hoping this giant nation will not bring disaster upon mankind. We should acknowledge these people's benevolent thoughts. Otherwise it will be hard for us to find common ground with them. Of course, others were enticed by the evil and trapped by material interests. But for these people, if we can remind them of their original intentions, and acknowledge their good thoughts, we can still talk with them.
Then how do we explain the truth to them?
My personal understandings are not extensive, but the following comes to mind:
First, when people initially sought money and material interests instead of fostering justice and courage to uphold peace, this was the point where they made a deal with the evil forces. We can remind people that the collapse of the former Soviet Union was due to the efforts of President Reagan and other courageous people who persisted in upholding justice. History repeatedly tells us that people who deal with evil will lose everything, sometimes even their own lives. We can use examples such as the Second World War.
Secondly, fostering support for Falun Gong is the best way to help China and the world. China's problems can actually be summarized as issues requiring the re-building of a moral framework and belief system. When all Chinese people have righteous beliefs and voluntarily correct their conduct, corruption will disappear, and people will respect each other. In fact, not a single, genuine Falun Gong practitioner is corrupt. When all Chinese people believe that Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance are standards with which to judge everything, they will choose the people and a system that conforms to those standards, and let them govern the country. Helping China to re-build its moral foundation is the guarantee for peace and prosperity in the world.
Falun Gong practitioners' peaceful and perseverant resistance against the persecution during the past five years has proven that the belief they hold dear is the true hope for China. Since Falun Gong originated in China and is connected with the Chinese culture, the Chinese people can most easily accept that belief. Supporting Falun Gong is actually being responsible for bringing stability to the 1.3 billion Chinese people and is also being responsible for the stability of the future world.
Supporting Falun Gong absolutely does not conflict with anyone's financial interests. Suppressing Falun Gong was Jiang's personal decision, and precisely because right now China has a heavy dependence on foreign investment, foreign support for Falun Gong can have a most powerful and important effect. Everyone should ask himself whether he is willing to deal with a political entity that cares for money and not much else, following no rules or moral standards, or whether he would rather deal with a morally upright society. If the answer is the latter, then he should support Falun Gong, and help people in China gain the freedom to read Falun Gong books and practice Falun Gong exercises freely. We should let Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance spread in China, because it will only bring benefits. This is an issue of spiritual belief. Falun Gong wants no money, no violence, no political power, yet the spread of it will benefit all people who care about China and who have business interests in China.
Finally, what can investors and others doing business with China do? They can petition the Chinese government to immediately end this persecution, punish people responsible for it, and restore the Chinese people's right to freely practice Falun Gong. They can use their influence in China to truly help the Chinese people regain their freedom to follow Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance if that is what they choose for themselves.
As practitioners, we can help them start an international movement by providing foreign investors, be they individuals or large corporations, with documentation that clarifies the truth about Falun Gong, and ask them to petition their governments, NGO's and the Chinese government to help end the persecution.
If everyone to whom we have clarified the truth said, "For the sake of our future, please support Falun Gong!" then the evildoing would cease.
What I have written is based on my personal understandings. Fellow practitioners, please point out anything inappropriate with benevolence.

My husband is a practitioner who has been cultivating Falun Dafa with his supernormal capabilities unlocked. Recently, in his realm, he saw the evil envelope the island of Manhattan like a dark umbrella. He would like to share his understandings with New York practitioners.
Our Minds Must Be Righteous. The Force of Our Thoughts Needs To Be Focused
His personal understanding is that when we fight on a battlefield, we must be strong and powerful. What gives us strength is our pure, righteous minds. The purer and the more righteous, the more powerfully we'll be able to fight any battle. Practitioners who go to New York should be clear that they are going to the main battlefield to save people and eliminate the evil. Your mindset should be one that does not wait, does not rely on others, does not expect local practitioners' help, and does not complain about any insufficient coordination or other practitioners' character problems. On the battlefield, we should make our righteous thoughts become stronger and stronger and deeper and deeper. Our thoughts and attention need to be focused.
A Big Battle to Thoroughly Eradicate the Evil
We will definitely win and succeed in this big battle between the good and the evil. In the process, any Dafa practitioners' weakness in character or physical discomfort is an incorrect state that needs to be dealt with quickly. Fellow practitioners should remind each other so that we can improve ourselves together. We should steadily do well the three things and constantly strengthen our righteous thoughts. On the battlefield, any emotional thought or behavior is unrighteous and dangerous. Each practitioner should be able to work independently on the battlefield. When encountering any manifestation of interfering illusion on the main battlefield, every practitioner should be able to eliminate it in an open, dignified, compassionate, and calm manner.
Recently two veteran practitioners, I will refer to them as E and F, who had practiced Falun Dafa since 1994, died from sickness tribulations within one week of each other, which, to a certain extent, reflects negatively on Falun Dafa. I was so upset over this that I was interfered with in the three things of Fa study, sending righteous thoughts and clarifying the truth. As I studied the Fa (1), my heart gradually calmed down. Here I would like to share with fellow practitioners some realizations.
About E
E was 49 years old this year. He suffered infectious hepatitis 20 years ago and was treated in a hospital. Since he began practicing Falun Dafa in 1994, he hadn't seen a doctor or taken any medicine. He was always an assistant at our exercise site. All the practitioners who knew him thought E was very diligent, as did I. E respected Teacher and Dafa (2). During the period that police interfered with him, he hid Teacher's picture in the daytime and took it out at night.
Before the persecution began, we studied the Fa as a group once a week and went to the exercise site at 4 o'clock in the morning. He always got there first with the recorder, no matter how hot or cold the weather. He also cultivated his xinxing (3) very well. Once, when everything in his home was stolen, he said he was really not moved at all. By his own admission he had "let go of fame, self-interest, and emotion." Usually he also did everything very well and looked very peaceful, like a true Dafa practitioner. Many practitioners admired him. He also was present at the peaceful appeal on April 25, along with 10,000 other practitioners, and the appeal in Tiananmen Square. Together with all Teacher's disciples, he was bathed in the sunshine of Dafa.
After the persecution began, the exercise sites were damaged by the evil, and the situation became more and more dangerous. Fellow practitioners started their own paths. The local police and local "610 Office" harassed him repeatedly, and he became more and more fearful. Perhaps because he had always been the assistant and was acknowledged as a good veteran practitioner at the exercise site, E himself didn't admit his attachment of fear and tried to hide it. For example, after he wrote the "Guarantee Statement" (to renounce Falun Dafa), other practitioners suggested that he should publish a solemn declaration on the Minghui website negating his promise to the old forces. But he offered the explanation that, "Although I did sign my name on the Guarantee Statement, in my mind I circled it, which indicated that the signature was not written by me."
I think maybe this was the turning point when E started slowing down, getting in trouble, and finally staying at home.
E's wife was also a practitioner and insisted on studying the Fa, doing the exercises, and sending forth righteous thoughts. But because she couldn't let go of her attachments to sentimentality and was afraid for their child, she rarely clarified the truth and was also unwilling to encourage her husband to do Dafa work. From her words and deeds, sometimes I felt she was not really living according to Dafa but stayed at the level of doing good deeds and having Teacher's protection. E definitely knew it was correct to do Dafa work, but he didn't try to change his home environment.
Especially in recent years, E himself became less and less eager to read Minghui articles. He often behaved as if he did not care about them (except for Teacher's articles), which led to his not understanding the situation of Fa-rectification. In fact he had been far from the grand environment of group cultivation and unconsciously lived like ordinary people.
It was announced that the road in front of his home was going to be broadened. At the urgings of his wife and child, he behaved like an ordinary person and used all the space in their yard to enlarge their house in order to get more compensation for having to move. His home was not short of room, so he was adding on just for the economic compensation. Building six or seven rooms used up a lot of his energy. Isn't building just for economic compensation greed? "I'm a practitioner. How can I go for such a thing? How much de must I give away if I get something that isn't paid for?" (Zhuan Falun) "Don't forget, you are all Fa-rectification period Dafa disciples! You came to validate the Fa!" (Teaching and Explaining the Fa at the Metropolitan New York Fa Conference) If we cannot meet the basic requirements of personal cultivation, how can we have the heart to cultivate the righteous Fa?
Just after E finished his house, the symptoms of his liver disease reappeared. In the beginning, he had a bitter taste in his mouth and his limbs felt weak; then he had diarrhea for a month. He became dangerously thin. His wife called and invited other practitioners. All the practitioners came to his home to study the Fa, send forth righteous thoughts and share experiences. We found that E's ideas had deviated from Dafa. E maintained a formal study of Zhuan Falun, and he read one chapter every day. But at the very foundation, what are Dafa practitioners during the time of Fa-rectification? What are Teacher's requirements of Dafa practitioners during the Fa-rectification? Why we should study the Fa and how should we study the Fa? To what level we have finally cultivated? In a critical moment, these ideas are key.
After finishing his house, what E thought of was not how to make up the time lost for Fa-rectification, but that "from now on I will take a rest for one month," which maybe was a joke with his wife. In fact, E ended up with diarrhea for a month. Even though he rested, he felt very weak and couldn't do the exercises or anything else. Everyday, except for eating and sleeping, he "read books and studied the Fa." Did he look like a Dafa practitioner in Fa-rectification time?
When he had diarrhea, E thought, "I would like my spirit to bear less and my body to bear more." He didn't see clearly the nature of the old forces and passively endured the persecution. He also talked very confidently, as if he had no problem letting go of fame, interest and emotion. In fact, his situation became worse and worse. His body became bloated and he couldn't bear it any more.
Fellow practitioners pointed out that he did not have strong righteous thoughts, that he didn't view things from the standpoint of the Fa, that he didn't emerge from personal cultivation, and that he didn't follow the process of Fa-rectification. That is why he was taken advantage by evil demons and dark minions and couldn't reach the standard of a true Dafa practitioner during the Fa-rectification period.
Teacher said,
"Clarifying the truth is something each and every one of you Dafa disciples must do. I'm telling you this again. Anyone who tries to make excuses for himself and who's never stepped forward is wrong."
(Teaching the Fa at the Washington, D.C. International Fa Conference)
Then E finally "enlightened" that he must start to "clarify the truth." It seems that he regarded truth clarifying as the last straw to grab onto.
Later on E was even unable to move or relieve himself on his own. His body was terribly weak. E said to his wife, "I should take some nutrients to build up my body." In this critical time, the difference in one thought was the distinction between a human being and being a god! Teacher wrote in Zhuan Falun,
"What else will you encounter? Our bodies may suddenly feel uncomfortable. This is because repaying the karma will be manifested in different ways. At a certain point in time, you will be made unable to discern clearly whether something is true, whether your gong exists, whether you can practice cultivation and make it, or whether there are Buddhas and if they are real. In the future, these situations will surface again to give you this false impression and make you feel as though they do not exist and are all false-it is to see whether you are determined."
Later on he was unable to sit up or hold a book. Then he was unable to see or hear anything. He lay in his wife's arms and died with his eyes open. It was less than three months from beginning to end.
F's Story
F was 36 years old this year. When he was young, he suffered from severe depression He first learned about Dafa in 1995. Before beginning the practice, he was E's good friend. When he learned that E was seriously ill and went to visit E, he was frightened. "Even though E had studied the Fa very well," F thought, "look what has become of him. How can I succeed in cultivation?" He went home, got on his bicycle and started riding around. As soon as he saw anyone, he shouted, "Falun Dafa is good!" This did not produce a positive effect. Due to his extreme panic, he couldn't study the Fa, couldn't eat, and couldn't sleep, all the while expecting a miracle to happen for E. After finding out that E had died, F passed away three days later, one month from beginning to end after first seeing E's condition.
During the past three or four years, except for communicating with E once or twice, F actually belonged to those people who stay at home to practice. About this, Teacher has indicated,
"No matter how he 'persists in studying the Fa and doing the exercises' at home, he is being controlled by demons and is 'enlightening' along an evil path." (Minghui Editors "Serious Teachings")
We should watch out for these people and clarify the truth in time to reduce the losses to Falun Dafa.
In view of this, through studying the Fa, I have realized the seriousness of cultivating the righteous Fa, I have realized that cultivating the righteous Fa is not play, and I have realized that the path of cultivating the righteous Fa is very narrow, with no room for deviation. Let us cherish the invaluable chance to cultivate the righteous Fa that Teacher has given us, with righteous enlightening, righteous thoughts, and righteous actions. Let's become genuine Dafa disciples in the Fa-rectification period, following Teacher towards consummation.
About the special cases of practitioners in different periods, Teacher has addressed them in his Teachings. We should learn more. Let us study together Teacher's words so that they can inspire us.
From "Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Philadelphia, U.S.A."
"Some students say with their lips, ¡®I reject the old forces' arrangements.' In key situations they can handle themselves quite well, but under normal circumstances they're likely to ease up their righteous thoughts, and when their righteous thoughts aren't adequate they're likely to have problems. Of course, I'm not talking about everyone. I'm talking about an extremely small number of folks--there are very few of them. So why does that happen? In history the old forces arranged many, many things, and they made extremely thorough and intricate arrangements. And to make sure that nothing would go wrong with what they arranged they did a practice run with the previous earth. Think about it--how could they not be attached to it? Could they possibly let go of what they wanted to do? But even so, if our righteous thoughts are very strong, then we're in line with a law in the cosmos, and this law holds in both the old cosmos and the new one: a being's choice is up to him, even if he made some kind of vow in history. At critical moments it's still up to him what he wants to do. And this goes for things that are positive and negative--it's the case for both."
"... from time to time some things happen among our Dafa disciples. The goal behind those problems is this: the old forces think that some students believe that once they cultivate Dafa they have nothing to worry about, ¡®As long as I'm a Dafa disciple I won't be in any kind of danger.' So they saw this and thought: ¡®We can't allow this. Isn't this like getting some kind of insurance? Once they learn Dafa they're not worried about anything. Isn't that a huge attachment in and of itself?' So those old forces caused trouble in Dafa. That's how these things came about. But when they caused trouble why didn't Master's countless Law Bodies and the countless righteous Gods who safeguard the Fa do anything about it? It's because some of our Dafa disciples signed some sort of pact with the old forces back in history, and so the old forces have latched onto this fact with a death grip and won't let go.
But it's not that you can't get rid of it. As I just said, even if sometime in history you did sign some kind of pact, if today your righteous thoughts are very strong, you don't recognize it, and you insist on not taking part in it, then you can in fact reject it. But this is a bit hard for you to handle in a case like this. What's hard is that the old forces won't let you go that easily, they'll try to take advantage of your gaps, and when you're just a little bit off they'll seize the opportunity. So when your righteous thoughts are very strong they can't take advantage of you, and this is because in Fa-rectification Dafa doesn't acknowledge the old forces' arrangements, and I, as your Master, don't acknowledge them either. Of course, each one of our Dafa disciples says that we don't recognize the old forces' arrangements, but that's not something you just say--you have to follow the requirements of Dafa and the Fa-rectification. ¡®I absolutely will not acknowledge any of those things you arranged in the past, old forces. I don't even acknowledge you.' When your righteous thoughts are very strong you can purge it and you can reject their arrangements. (Applause) And that's because we absolutely cannot acknowledge them."
Notes:
(1)Fa - Law and principles of Falun Dafa
(2)Dafa: The great law or great way
(3)"xinxing:" heart or mind nature, moral character
I have been wondering what the worst part of the persecution against me has been during the past five years. Is it that I was deprived of my freedom and sent to prison? Was it when they inserted an electric baton into my month to torture me? Was it the economic pressures and heavy fines levied against me? Was it when I was forced to become homeless to escape further torment? Among all these, which is the worst?
As I was pondering this question, I thought that all of them were serious. However, after I shared my experiences with a Taiwanese practitioner yesterday, I was able to pinpoint the worst part of it: In addition to slandering Dafa and Dafa practitioners, the persecution forced me to lose the normal environment of group study and group exercises that I need.
Group study and exercises are forms that Teacher left us to improve our cultivation, and this is very important to me. In this environment I could be very diligent and the loss of it deeply influenced my Fa study and Xinxing(1) improvement.
While talking with her, my heart became at ease. I had been living in this suppressed environment of Mainland China for a long time, and I didn't realize how it had affected me. If a person is subjected to coercion every day he may lose awareness that he is being persecuted because he gets used to it. Only when the persecution stops will he realize how much he has been suppressed.
I tried to remember the times before 1999 and I suddenly realized that the present situation in Taiwan is similar to the way it was in Mainland China before the persecution started five years ago. It allowed me to understand the importance of that environment to me, and that in the past my views and thoughts were very different from what they are now.
In the present environment in China, we cannot share experiences with other practitioners, and we must be careful while accessing the Falun Gong websites, printing articles and even going shopping. Compared with Taiwan, our environment is very inhibited. We have to turn the Dafa music to low volume and study the Fa on our own initiative.
In this oppressive environment, our practitioners cannot study in groups and share experiences with each other, causing a lack of information. When we encounter problems and hardships, some of us cannot enlighten in time and stay at the same level for a long time, sometimes even finding excuses in Teacher's Fa for our lack of advancement. In this general environment, even practitioners who used to be diligent find it difficult to improve.
After talking with this fellow practitioner, I felt I gained a lot. I hope that Dafa practitioners outside of China share their experiences with fellow practitioners in Mainland China who have taken the wrong path by calling them. It would surely be of great help. You do not even have to talk about profound principles; your friendly tone of voice, your righteous belief in the Fa, and your approach to problems would encourage the practitioners in Mainland China, and may change their thoughts and understandings amidst their hardships. Remember that your words carry energy.

(1) heart or mind nature, moral character
(Clearwisdom.net) I first heard of Xiaoqing's (an alias) story from a police officer. She was illegally arrested in 2001 for distributing Falun Gong truth-clarification materials. Five months later, she was illegally sentenced to a three-year prison term.
There have been many stories circulating about Xiaoqing in the places where she has been detained: the police station, the detention center, and the prison. People all know about a Falun Gong practitioner named Xiaoqing. It is said that the Public Security Bureau once issued an internal order: Whoever is able to "transform" (1) Xiaoqing will be promoted up one rank and he/she would get a triple-raise. Many people have tried. In the end, feeling helpless and pessimistic, a police officer said, "There is nothing I can do about her, unless I kill her."
Several years later, Xiaoqing herself sat before me. She had just recently been released from prison, and she calmly told me her story:
****
I started practicing Falun Dafa because I was tormented by illnesses. I didn't know what being healthy was like until I turned thirty. Whenever I heard about a place that could treat illnesses, I would go check it out. I learned just about any kind of qigong. Yet, my health did not improve. Afterward, I began to practice Falun Gong, and pretty soon I became healthy. I've never had any recurrence of my illnesses since practicing Falun Gong. For the first time in my life, I knew what it was like to be free from illnesses. What was more important, though, was that my mind was purified. I understood many truths about life and I understood why people live and how I should walk my path in the future.
The miraculous effects of Falun Gong were spread by word of mouth and eventually reached hundreds of thousands of people. Back then, we practiced the exercises in a public square and many people came to learn. In the beginning there were only about a dozen people practicing together. In less than a year the number of people increased to more than 3,000. Later, we went to the countryside to spread the teachings. There were three elderly women in one village who were all hunched over with osteoporosis. All three were illiterate. So, we played recordings of Teacher's lectures. It is very difficult for elderly people from Southern China to understand Mandarin Chinese, yet they still persisted in coming over to watch the video. Every day we watched one lecture. When people asked them what they understood of Teacher's lectures, they replied, "Become good people and practice the exercises."
After watching the video for only three days, one elderly woman's back straightened. Nine days later we began teaching the exercises. Every day those elderly women did about twelve hours of farm work, yet, every night immediately after eating dinner, at around 7 or 8 p.m., they still came over to learn Falun Gong. Although they could not read and could not understand Mandarin Chinese, they didn't miss a day of practicing the exercises in the morning and studying the Falun Gong books at night. One month later, another elderly woman's back also straightened. Three months later, the last elderly woman's back straightened also.
We took the three women with us to different places to spread the teachings. Everywhere we went, they told people about the miracle of Falun Gong, using their personal experiences. Many people came to learn. In some villages, men and women, old and young all learned and practiced Falun Gong.
Back then we were so happy, seeing elderly, weak, sick, and disabled people start practicing Falun Gong and then pretty soon seeing their faces glow with health and their illnesses completely disappear. Every day, new practitioners joined us. Together we studied the teachings of Falun Gong, practiced the exercises and shared our experiences. Each of us held ourselves to a strict standard and tried our best to improve our character. That was indeed a pure land. Practitioners cared for each other and helped each other like a big family, because we have the same Teacher.
On July 20, 1999, a large-scale and widespread suppression of Falun Gong began. Back then, it was really as if the sky was about to collapse. All anyone wanted was to be able to study the Falun Gong principles, practice the exercises together, and be good people. Why suppress Falun Gong?
We went to the City Council to appeal, hoping to pass on our message to the authorities. Based on our own personal experiences, we wanted to tell people that Falun Gong is good and is one-hundred percent beneficial to society while posing no harm at all. However, we found that in this vast, boundless land, we didn't have a place to turn to speak up for Falun Gong.
If we made appeals, we would be arrested, and if we practiced the Falun Gong exercises in public, we would be detained. However, we still went. We could not bear their vicious attacks on Teacher. In our minds, our incomparably venerable Teacher's grace was something that we could never repay in our lifetime. How could we sit and watch those people slander and defame Teacher?
At that time, the situation was a little chaotic. Many fake Falun Gong scriptures were circulated by the authorities. Some people retreated from Falun Gong, yet a lot of people still persisted in practicing. By exchanging information with other practitioners, we learned about the situation in the various regions and we gradually understood what to do. We were all Dafa particles, and at this special moment each and every one of us was someone who was in charge, who used our own ways to validate the truth that Falun Dafa is good.
In 2000, we were finally able to access the Minghui website [Chinese version of the Clearwisdom website]. We could not describe how happy we were. It was as if we had a light guiding us through the dark night. We no longer felt helpless and confused. We bought a printer and started printing articles from Minghui. We wanted to let people around us know about the truth of Falun Gong. So, we printed large amount of truth-clarification flyers.
We printed hundreds of thousands of truth-clarification flyers. We distributed the flyers day and night. At each and every corner of the city, our Falun Gong flyers could be seen. At that time, we accomplished our work very smoothly, often playing hide-and-seek with police. These truly lawless personnel went back empty-handedly even after conducting many large raids across the city. A small retail shop was our truth-clarification materials base, and the police knew about it. They kept us under 24-hour surveillance. Yet, we still persisted in printing and distributing flyers. We were not afraid at all. They could not find anything to hold against us. This truth-clarification materials production site continued for several years.
Making truth-clarification materials and validating the Fa became an important part of my life. In 2001, I went back to my hometown to visit my parents, and I took with me several hundred copies of truth-clarification flyers. I had been away from home for about twelve years. Although I wasn't sure of the situation there and could not get in touch with local practitioners, I still began distributing truth-clarification materials.
One night, I went to a small neighboring residential area. After distributing flyers in several buildings and at each house without seeing anyone, I began thinking things were going too well. I again went to a market. After I finished distributing flyers in the market, I still had a dozen copies of the flyer left. I remembered that I missed a small unit in the area I had just visited. So I turned back and was ambushed and arrested by policemen who had been hiding and waiting.
At the police station, I kept reflecting on what happened. How could this happen? I had been doing so well. Why was I arrested on the first day I came home? I must have had a loophole somewhere: My righteous thoughts were not strong enough, and so I was taken advantage of by the evil.
When I was in another city I had not a shred of fear or concern. I was not afraid of getting arrested, beaten up or even dying--nothing whatsoever. Coming back home and seeing my aging parents missing and worrying about me day and night, I could not let go of sentimentality and I felt worried, with the following thought: Don't ever get arrested here because I don't want to implicate my parents.
Teacher said: "A good or bad outcome comes from a single thought." Because of that one thought I ended up being arrested. Now that I had gotten caught in this, I actually calmed down and did not think too much about the consequences. I made up my mind that I would learn from this lesson, remain steadfast and not give the evil any more opportunities to take advantage of.
In the detention center the authorities kept asking me three questions: "Who are you, where did you get your materials, and do you have any accomplices?" I said, "You better not ask me these questions and I won't answer them either. But if you want to know about the goodness of Falun Gong or why I distributed flyers, I'll explain."
When the court tried my case, they proposed to appoint me a defense lawyer, to which I refused. I told them, "If this lawyer spoke the truth and defended me based on his conscience, he would be attacked and suffer revenge by you. Wouldn't I be ruining him? If he dared not to speak the truth, or even collaborated with you, then what good would this defense be for me?"
I decided to defend myself in court. In the court, I told them the whole story of what I had been through. Based on my own personal experience I told everyone the following facts: Falun Gong is good; we have been unjustly persecuted; what the media said is all lies. In the end I said, "Today, on this podium, I finally have the opportunity to stand before government officials and the general public to speak justice for Falun Gong. Although I might be thrown in prison for doing so, I have no regrets or sorrow.
Three months later, a judge visited me in the detention center. He said, "Tomorrow the court will announce the ruling on your case. The key is your attitude." He asked me, "If we let you go, will you still practice Falun Gong?" I said, "Yes, I will still practice Falun Gong." He again asked, "If we don't sentence you, will you still distribute flyers?" I said, "Yes, I will still distribute flyers. As long as the persecution against Falun Gong continues, I will continue to distribute Falun Gong flyers."
The next day the court ruled that I had "disrupted public order" and sentenced me to three years in prison.
I was thrown in a women's prison. In the prison, the first thing I told the police was: "Don't you ever think about transforming me." They sent in two inmates to watch me. If I practiced the exercises, they would tie me up. After tying me up for two days, there was nothing more they could do, so they left me alone.
Playing it tough did not work, so the authorities tried to subtly manipulate me. The policemen kept trying to please me. They let "collaborators" serve me meals, wash dishes for me, and provide complete care for everything in my daily life. I held myself to a Falun Dafa practitioner's standard and explained the facts to them, asking them not to give me special care. However, whenever I practiced the Falun Gong exercises, they would kneel down, begging me to stop. I could not bear looking at their miserable faces. The police officers talked to me several times. They admitted that Falun Dafa was good; yet, they had to follow orders. They hoped that I would help them save face, and that as long as I did not practiced the exercises, they would go easy on everything else.
The prison inmates had to write a weekly "Thoughts Summary Report." In my report I always said, "Over this past week I persisted in practicing the Falun Gong exercises because I did not violate any laws. I'm unjustly detained here."
Every time I spoke up, other inmates would look at me with admiration. They all knew what I was going to say. I was the only person in this division who dared to speak with the voice of justice to the police.
One time the prison organized inmates to watch video programs that slandered and attacked Falun Gong. I grabbed the videotape and slammed it to the ground. I told everyone not to believe it, that it was all lies and deceptions. I told them Falun Gong was not like that at all and that the video program was made by people who lacked conscience.
My slamming of the videotape was really something major. Not only did a group of policemen rush in, but so did the supervisor. They pushed me to the ground and handcuffed my hands behind my back. One policeman said that they had never seen any inmate dare to resist like that and that it was simply an act of rebellion.
Several hours later a policewoman tried to unlock my handcuffs. Yet, the handcuffs were too tight, and no matter how hard she tried, she could not open them. She said, "Why? How much you have suffered!" I flipped my hands to the front and the handcuffs opened. The policewoman said, "What happened? Did you emit gong (2)?"
The next day they asked me if I admitted my wrongdoing, to which I answered no. So they fastened me to a window frame and only let me down to eat or sleep. The second day I still did not admit any wrongdoing. A police officer said, "If you don't admit your wrongdoing, we'll deduct your merit points." I said, "I started practicing Falun Gong because I was tormented by illnesses. I study the teachings of Falun Gong and practice the exercises in order to become fit and healthy and to become a good person. I did not do anything wrong. Suit yourself if you want to deduct my merit points." The police officer again said, "So you are not afraid of us deducting your merit points?! I'll write up a report encouraging the court to extend your term." I said, "I did not violate any laws. All I did was study the Falun Gong principles and practice the exercises in order to become fit and healthy and to become a good person. I distributed flyers simply because we do not have any other outlet to let people know the truth about Falun Gong. I did not disrupt public order. You are someone in the law enforcement field, please abide by the law."
From then on, the prison policemen showed special concern for me. Every morning inmates had to do morning exercises, but I was allowed to skip them. When I was not feeling well, I could rest in the room and did not have to work. They often asked me if I was homesick and if they should invite my parents to visit me, and so on.
When I was about to complete my prison term, the warden asked me to write a summary report, claiming that it was a routine that everyone released from the prison had to do. I did not write anything at all. She said, "You don't have to mention Falun Gong. Just write down how we have treated you for the past few years." I said, "I don't want to write it. Although you did not torture me, I have been unjustly detained here and lost my freedom for three years. I will not thank you because of that."
The warden asked me if I had thought about what I was going to do when I was released. I said, "I lost my job, so I'll just look for any job. But, I'll still practice Falun Gong and I'll still clarify the truth."
The day I was released, the city's Political Law Committee sent over a car to pick me up and told me that they would make arrangements for me for a job. I said, "It's fine to make arrangements for me to work. But you cannot make me write the so-called Guarantee Statement to guarantee that I will not practice Falun Gong. Secondly, you cannot restrict my freedom, nor can you have people following me." The city's Political Law Committee agreed to my terms and arranged for me to work in a hotel restaurant. I said that I could not accept the job because a cultivator should not kill. Later, they tried to put me in a wine company, and my answer was still no, because a cultivator should not drink alcohol, nor can he/she tolerate the smell of alcohol. In the end they arranged for me to work as a ticket seller in a park.
After being released from prison, I studied the Fa (3) assiduously. I read Teacher's new articles for three days and three nights in a row. It had been three years, and I had been completely isolated from the outside world and had not received any of teacher's articles. Now I was able to read Teacher's lectures, one after another. Tears welled up in my eyes. How compassionate and great our Teacher is; his mind is always filled with all his disciples. I will redouble my efforts in order not to let down Teacher's expectations.
After she finished telling me her story, Xiaoqing asked me if I had any questions. I said, "You were imprisoned for three years simply for distributing some flyers. Do you have any regrets?"
"No. Not for a second." she replied solemnly and firmly.
"Before [the persecution began on] July 20, 1999, I always thought that I had not cultivated diligently and had poor enlightenment quality. Therefore, I was very worried. When the persecution had just started, I also watched others and I did what others did. Afterward, I gradually understood that our cultivation path does not have any reference or example. I always believed one thing: As long as I steadfastly believe in Dafa and as long as I follow Teacher closely, this path will definitely be a bright and shinning one. I want to be worthy of Teacher and I want to prove that I'm a diligent disciple through my own actions."
I asked Xiaoqing again, "Do you hate those people who sentenced you to jail?"
"No. I don't hate anyone." Replied Xiaoqing. "I feel pity for them. I'm more blessed than they. Because I am the one that has understood the truth and the one with Teacher watching over me. Think about it. Although they have a pretty good job, freedom and special privileges, they live an exhausting life. Because of constantly pursuing fame, gain, affection or even very trivial matters, they cannot enjoy their food or sleep well. Every day they live amidst mistrust and treachery. Their future is bleak. Nobody has control over his or her destiny. When they lie down to sleep at night, they don't know if they will wake up tomorrow. How pitiful they are."
"People often ask me what is so good about Falun Gong. I always say, 'Falun Gong has given me a healthy body. What's more important is that it has given me a peaceful and happy life.'"
"Now, every day I clarify the truth to people. I explain the facts of Falun Gong and the persecution to everyone I come in contact with. Some people who do not understand Falun Gong would not listen to me. So I tell them, 'I have just recently been released from prison, I was sentenced to three years for practicing Falun Gong.' This statement always surprises many people. I then explain to them the truth about Falun Gong."
At that time, sitting before me with her eyes gazing far away, Xiaoqing looked calm and peaceful. It was hard to imagine that she had just been released from prison.
Notes
(1) "Transform" refers to forcing practitioners to give up Falun Gong.
(2) Gong is cultivation energy developed through practicing a righteous cultivation way.
(3) Fa: Law and principles; the teachings of Falun Dafa.

(Clearwisdom.net) This June, a friend of mine (a medical doctor who sympathizes with Falun Gong) told me the following story.
Two years ago one of his patients, who was in charge of a public security "610 Office," had come to see him to treat a physical illness. His illness had something to do with an abnormal digestive system that caused him frequent diarrhea. He told my friend that his job was so busy that he had to keep his cell phone on 24 hours a day, and the tremendous mental pressure weakened his physical strength.
More recently, he showed up to see my friend. My friend was stunned that in the two short years that had passed, the patient had become a completely different person: he looked more like a skeleton than a man, and his arm was as thin as a piece of dry wood.
He said that over the past two years his symptoms kept changing, from diarrhea to losing strength in both legs, and gradually his body became weak, and over time he lost weight. He had visited all the major medical hospitals around Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Medical experts had prescribed all kinds of tests, checked his body systems and still could not find the cause of his illness. In other words, he has contracted a baffling, unknown disease. In the few short minutes while he described the situation, he had to constantly open his mouth wide in order to draw air in and appeared to be short of breath.
My friend said: "This head of the '610 Office' is only in his forties, but as he has such a serious illness, it is probably the result of what people call retribution!"
I felt heavy-hearted after listening to the story. It is true that if it wasn't for Jiang Zemin stubbornly starting the movement to suppress Falun Gong, there would not be the existence of the "610 Office" in charge of the suppression of Falun Gong; this man would not have been put in charge of the "610 Office," and therefore he would not have committed such a sin against Falun Dafa practitioners, and he would not have received bad returns like this.
Even so, if he could choose the right path after having gone the wrong way, show sincere repentance for the past, and keep a benevolent heart and treat Falun Dafa practitioners with kindness, then I think that as long as there is one breath left in him, he could feel compassionate Buddha's infinite grace.
I sincerely hope that all the people who participated in the persecution will recognize Jiang's destructive nature and take hold of their own futures.
(Clearwisdom.net) Editors' Note: In both Western and Chinese culture, the principle of karmic retribution, that is, being held ultimately accountable for one's own actions, is widely accepted. The fundamental teaching of Falun Gong is the characteristic of the universe, "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." The universe will reward actions that are in harmony with this principle, while actions such as beating, torturing and murdering people will incur karmic retribution. Stated another way, good deeds will be rewarded with good, while evildoings will meet due retribution. Articles such as this one are meant as a compassionate reminder of this principle to those who would commit wrongdoing. While many of those who persecute Falun Gong are merely "following orders," the universal law requires that they, too, be held responsible for their actions, and that only by reversing their course of wrongdoing may they escape retribution.

Case 1: A Policewoman from Wuhan City, Hubei Province Dies of Cancer After Persecuting Falun Gong Practitioners.
Ms. Feng Xiaohong, a policewoman at Changqing Garden Police Station, in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, died at the age of 49. Since July 20, 1999, when Jiang Zemin started openly persecuting Falun Gong (or Falun Dafa) practitioners, Feng Xiaohong spared no effort in persecuting practitioners under her jurisdiction. Some of her crimes include: illegally ransacking practitioners' homes; forcibly sending practitioners to detention centers, jails, forced labor camps, and brainwashing classes where they were subjected to inhuman tortures; writing and submitting fake guarantees to renounce Falun Gong in the names of those practitioners who refused to do so. (The regime rewards police with bonuses based on the number of practitioners they force into signing such "guarantee" statements against Falun Gong.)
In 2001, the Wuhan Evening News, a local newspaper, published one of Feng's "achievements" ¨C her persecution of a couple in Changqing Garden district in an effort force them to renounce Falun Gong. She sent the husband to Hewan Forced Labor Camp after his wife had just given birth and was breast-feeding the baby.
In 2003, Feng was diagnosed with breast cancer. She died in July 2004 after the cancer spread all over her body.
Case 2: A Policeman Dies of a Stroke While on a Trip to Persecute Practitioners
Mr. Peng Jinsheng, Captain of the National Security Brigade, a special task force that the Jiujiang City Public Security Bureau of Jiangxi Province established to persecute Falun Gong practitioners died the end of December 2001, at the age of 51. Peng died of a stroke while he was on his way to Taiping Village, Wuning County, Jiangxi Province to persecute practitioners in Taiping Village. He died alone in a remote area.
After Peng Jinsheng died, the local and regional media publicized his "achievements" in persecuting Falun Gong. According to these reports, Peng had arrested more than 100 practitioners and had sent more than 60 to forced labor camps. He had also allegedly completed "critical tasks" passed down from the Public Security Bureau when he stayed up for 18 consecutive nights and used any means to force determined Falun Gong practitioners to renounce Falun Gong. [Note: This probably means that he deprived determined Falun Gong students of sleep for 18 consecutive nights and subjected them to torture in order to force them to give up their beliefs.] These "accomplishments" won him accolades from the Ministry of Public Security and the Jiangxi Provincial Public Security Bureau. However, people of conscience would regard such "accomplishments" as crimes.
Case 3: A Small Business Owner in Naizishanqianyao, Jiaohe City, Jilin Province, Meets Retribution.
Mr. Wang, a man in his 30's, owns a small grocery store in Naizishanqianyao, Jiaohe City, Jilin Province. Unfortunately, he believed the Chinese government's lies about Falun Gong, so he repeatedly informed the local Public Security Bureau in his jurisdiction when he found people in his area practicing Falun Gong. Wang was very persistent when reporting on practitioners. Even when the staff at the Public Security Bureau told him that they were too busy to assign staff to arrest practitioners, Wang would keep calling the Bureau, urging them to make arrests. As a result of his insistent calls, the local police illegally ransacked the homes of two Falun Gong practitioners, arrested them, and harassed their families repeatedly.
Wang received 600 yuan for reporting local Falun Gong practitioners to the police. One day, he suddenly experienced a toothache and inflamed gums. He went to Jiaohe City many times for medical treatment and spent more than 600 yuan, but he continued to suffer even after a month of treatment. Eventually he had to have a root canal procedure. Moreover, his heart started to slow down and would occasionally stop. Now he has to carry medicine at all times to help regulate his heartbeat. He also began to suffer from cognitive dysfunction and memory loss. He frequently has to go to the hospital for medical treatment. As a result, his business has suffered terribly and he has problems making ends meet.
Apparently Wang has not reflected on the wrongs he committed and has not repented for his sins. He continues to spy on Falun Gong practitioners in his area in order to earn additional rewards. We sincerely hope that Wang and others who read this story will immediately stop their wrongdoing. In the end, everyone has to account for everything he has done. For your own good, be responsible for your life and stop committing sinful acts.
Case 4: An Elderly Man Who Turned Against Falun Gong Dies a Sudden Death
Mr. Gao, a retired employee of Jian'an Company in Laiwu City Steel Group, Shandong Province, died at the age of 72. Before Jiang Zemin started to openly persecute Falun Gong practitioners on July 20, 1999, Gao and his wife both practiced Falun Gong, which restored their health. Both Gao and his wife's illnesses disappeared without a trace.
Since July 20, 1999, Gao and his wife accepted Jiang Zemin's smear campaign against Falun Gong. Not only did they become ungrateful to Mr. Li Hongzhi (the founder of Falun Gong) and to Falun Gong, which restored their health, but they also turned against the practice and started cursing and condemning Mr. Li Hongzhi and Falun Gong. Then Gao's wife suddenly became paralyzed.
Their family members who practice Falun Gong suspected that it must be karmic retribution for condemning Falun Buddha Fa [It is a traditional Chinese belief that all who disrespect Buddha or Buddha Fa will be punished by heaven.] They kindly advised Gao and his wife not to believe Jiang Zemin's slanderous lies and suggested that they repent for their wrong doing right away. However, the couple returned their family's well-intended advice with even harsher curses against Falun Gong. Some other Falun Gong practitioners in their area who knew the couple and learned about Mrs. Gao's condition visited them and also advised them to repent for their sins and to be respectful of Falun Buddha Fa. However, Mr. and Mrs. Gao were not receptive. They were often seen cursing Mr. Li Hongzhi and Falun Gong out loud on the streets.
On a morning in June 2004, Mr. Gao died of a sudden illness. It is said that Mr. Gao kept cursing Falun Gong up to the day before his death. Everyone has to account for his actions. Hopefully Mr. and Mrs. Gao's tragic stories will be a lesson for all of us that heaven will ultimately punish those who disrespect the Buddha Fa.
(Clearwisdom.net) A "solemn declaration" is a person's public statement declaring to the world that whatever he or she has done or said under duress or deception that was against Falun Dafa is null and void. Most of these statements have come from Falun Dafa practitioners in China who wished to express regret that, in the face of physical torture and brainwashing, they had signed documents renouncing Dafa and guaranteeing not to practice again. Also, as more and more people in China learn the truth about how they have been deceived and lied to by the Jiang regime, many non-practitioners are also submitting "solemn declarations."
Here are some examples of the Solemn Declarations:

Facts of the Persecution
1) Many Falun Dafa practitioners in Heilongjiang Province have been sentenced to prison since this spring, such as Ms. Lei Min, Ms. Zhao Hong, Mr. Gao Jingju, and Ms. Qu Shumin, each sentenced to seven years, and Ms. Yan Chunling and Mr. Liu Bingyi sentenced to 11 years each. Ms. Yang Zongqin was given a three-year prison sentence, and Ms. Zhang Qingyan was also been sentenced.
2) Huanglong Police Substation Director Zhang Yu of Nong-an County, Jilin Province, used to be the director of Kai-an and Liujia Towns' substations. He actively participates in the persecution Falun Gong, sending Dafa practitioners to detention centers and labor camps and extorting money and possessions from them. Some practitioners have had to become destitute and homeless in order to avoid being illegally arrested at home.
3) Practitioner Ms. Deng Honghua from Qidong County, Hunan Province, went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Dafa on June 18, 2000. She was detained in Shunyi County Detention Center for 19 days. She was escorted back home, where local police interrogated, tortured, and detained her in the Qidong County Detention Center for 39 months. On March 27, 2004, she was arrested and tortured again for passing out truth clarifying material in Shaoyang County.
4) Practitioner Mr. Xie Zhiyuan was just released from Sichuan Provincial Xinhua Labor Camp on July 22, 2004, but abducted again on August 16 to the Xinjin Brainwashing Class held in Chengdu City.
Persecution Facts from Ling County, Shandong Province
Practitioner Ms. Liu Guixiang went to Beijing to appeal in October 2000, was arrested and then bailed out two months later when her family paid more than ten thousand yuan (1). She died two months later. In October 2000, Ms. Li Xiuqing's husband went to Beijing to appeal and was sentenced to two years in Wangchun Labor Camp. Ms. Li (a non-practitioner) could not take the mental strain. She suffered a nervous breakdown and committed suicide in the spring of 2001. On August 7, 2004, police stormed into Luzhuang Village, ransacked the homes of practitioners Mr. Qu Fengxi and Ms. Zhou Fulian and abducted practitioners Ms. Zhang Dongju, Ms. Li Xiurong, and Lu Rongli. The latter two were bailed out. On July 21, 2004, police ransacked practitioner Ms. Wu Xiuzhi's home in Bianzhuang Village, abducted her, and continue to detain her in Ling County Prison.
Falun Dafa Practitioner's Family Appeal Letter
My name is Yan Hua, and I am 14 years old. My mother Gu Xiufen is a Falun Dafa practitioner in Songming County, Yun-nan Province. On July 25, 2004, because she told others to be a good and to treat Dafa practitioners nicely, she was abducted by Songming County police and detained in the county detention center. I am not allowed to visit her. I am left alone all by myself at home. I hope kind-hearted police help me return my mother! I need my mother, I need my mother's love, I need a place to live, and I need to go to school!

Facts of the Persecution
1) Ms. Zhang Fengde, an employee of the Anci District Mass Art Center in Langfang City, Hebei Province won gold and silver medals in provincial and city art contests.
