(Clearwisdom.net) At nightfall on February 11, dozens of Falun Gong practitioners in the greater Chicago area came to the Chinese Consulate to appeal. In the cold wind, practitioners displayed banners reading, "Bring Jiang Zemin to Justice," "Bring Luo Gan to Justice," "Bring Liu Jing to Justice" and "Bring Zhou Yongkang to Justice." These four individuals are the key persons who are directly responsible for the persecution of Falun Gong.

According to Chicago Falun Gong volunteer contact person Mr. Yu Zhou, practitioners came to the Chinese Consulate to appeal because recently, Jiang's group launched another large-scale round-up of Falun Gong practitioners. As a result, many Falun Gong practitioners have been seized and several have been tortured to death. The death toll of practitioners has thus dramatically increased to 884.

Mr. Yu Zhou said: "The peaceful and rational activities of Falun Gong practitioners in the past four and a half years have caused the lies of Jiang and his followers to collapse of themselves. However, the "610 office", an agency which was created by Jiang Zemin and overrides the law, has not only brutally persecuted Falun Gong practitioners in China, but has also extended the illegal persecution overseas. Chairman of Communist Party Military Committee Jiang Zemin, Secretary of Political and Legal Committee of Communist Party Luo Gan, Deputy Minister of Public Security Department and Deputy Director of 6-10 Office Liu Jing and Minister of Public Security Department Zhou Yongkang are the key persons responsible for the persecution. We just want to clarify the truth, expose the illegal conduct of Jiang and his followers during their persecution of Falun Gong and expose their monstrous crimes against humanity.

According to a Chinese Clearwisdom report on February 4, the deaths of five more Falun Gong practitioners from three provinces of Northeast China have been verified: Chang Jian and Song Gang from Heilongjiang Province, Liu Ming and Wang Xidong from Liaoning Province, Song Shijie from Jilin Province. Among these, Song Gang, Liu Ming and Wang Xidong were tortured to death four years ago. Furthermore, according to a Chinese Clearwisdom report on February 3, Falun Dafa practitioners in Shahe City, Hebei Province successfully broadcast Falun Dafa documentary videos on TV during the Chinese New Year. This sparked a lot of interest among the people in the Shahe area and extreme panic among persecutors. It was reported that the Ministry of Public Security dispatched personnel right away to Xingtai to direct the persecution. Under a harsh order from high above, the Shahe City police launched a desperate search and arrest operation against Falun Gong practitioners. We have learned that nine Falun Gong practitioners were taken away, while many practitioners' homes were ransacked, and their property and books illegally confiscated. All practitioners in Shahe are now under police surveillance, interrogation, and they are also being pressured to sign forms denouncing Falun Gong.

Ms Ye, who also came to participate in the appeal said: "We are fellow practitioners of Falun Gong practitioners in Mainland China, however, we have received different treatment. Outside China, Falun Gong has spread to more than 60 countries and received numerous proclamations and awards. Practitioners have sued Jiang Zemin and the "610 Office" in many countries. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have placed the names of 45 people, including Jiang Zemin and Luo Gan, who are directly responsible for the persecution, into the Royal Police watch list. In China, however, practitioners have been brutally persecuted for just trying to tell the truth and let more people know the truth of the persecution. We call on the Chinese Government to conform to the will of the public and stop the persecution."

Mr. Zhu is a senior engineer in Indiana and he came to join the appeal after work, he said: "Though the persecution against Falun Gong has been carried out for about 4 and a half years, the persecution is actually not supported by the public and not all government officials agree with it. We display these banners to expose the key persons who are responsible. For their own interests, they have cruelly persecuted so many innocent people to death. We hope we can bring them to justice as soon as possible."

In the near future, Chicago practitioners will continue to appeal in front of the Chinese Consulate in Chicago to call on the Chinese Government to punish harshly Jiang Zemin and his accomplices. Practitioners also called on the international community to closely observe the persecution in China and help stop it as soon as possible.

(Clearwisdom.net) On February 3, 2004, the Ontario Superior Court in Canada reached a verdict in the libel lawsuit against Pan Xinchun, the Chinese Deputy Consul General in Toronto. The judge ruled in favor of Toronto Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Joel Chipkar. The court also ordered Pan Xinchun, who failed to show up in court, to compensate for damage incurred by his libel.

On May 1, 2003, Pan Xinchun published a letter in the Toronto Star. He made excuses for China's cover-up of SARS. In doing so, he used slanderous words to attack Mr. Chipkar and other Falun Gong practitioners. In August, a lawsuit was filed against Pan for libel.

The Ontario Superior Court's verdict in this civil lawsuit appears simple. However, it has a deep significance. The plaintiff is an ordinary Canadian citizen, while the defendant is a Consular Officer of China. In traditional Chinese ideology, this is a typical case of "suing a government officer by a civilian." As a defendant, the officer did not dare to show up in court. It was also the officer who lost the case. This is very meaningful in itself. As a peaceful and compassionate cultivation group, Falun Gong has been persecuted widely and severely in China. In western countries, however, people ranging from government officials to ordinary citizens are sympathetic toward Falun Gong and like it. Such a clear contrast has attracted much attention.

A Warning to Diplomatic Officers Who Instigate Hate Propaganda under Diplomatic Immunity

During this lawsuit, according to Canadian laws, the defendant's libel of the plaintiff was in violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Canada acceded on May 19, 1976. Through his refusing to accept lawsuit files and show up in court, we can see Deputy Consul General Pan Xinchun's fear of having his actions exposed. This verdict sent a warning out to those diplomatic officers who instigated the persecution, while hoping to use their diplomatic immunity as an umbrella.

In China, defaming Falun Gong in public has become Jiang's primary propaganda tool. "Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance" is the object of slander on radio and TV stations, in newspapers, and even in elementary school textbooks. Meanwhile, Falun Gong practitioners are deprived of the most basic human rights and dignity. For a simple appeal, saying "Falun Dafa is good" in public, or even mentioning Falun Gong in emails to one's family can send someone to jail, and even their family members could be affected. In addition to unlawful imprisonment, Falun Gong practitioners' rights to appeal and defend themselves are often taken away. The regulations that separated and broke apart practitioners' families were some so-called "policies" made by Jiang via the People's Congress. Such "policies" severely violated the constitution as well as international human rights covenants. As Western media documented, after the persecution began, the Jiang regime created laws to ban Falun Gong and applied them retroactively to imprison practitioners.

The Canadian government clearly stated they would not intervene in the lawsuit against Pan Xinchun. This demonstrates the independence and impartiality of the judicial system in Canada. Moreover, further efforts to bring those persecutors to justice are also taking place in Canada. According to articles in the Ottawa Citizen and the Vancouver Sun on January 21, 2004, "The RCMP is keeping a watch list of 15 high-ranking Chinese officials, accused of torturing and oppressing members of the Falun Gong spiritual movement. If any of the officials sets foot in Canada, the RCMP will 'look into' their alleged criminal actions. Constable Nathalie Deschenes said, 'Under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, applicants cannot be admitted to Canada if there are reasonable grounds to believe they have perpetrated a crime against humanity'... 'The list of accused includes Jiang Zemin, the 72-year-old former president of China and now chairman of the country's Central Military Commission, and Liu Qi, the mayor of Beijing.'"

The Sinister Force behind the Hate Propaganda

Some people may wonder how Deputy Consul General Pan Xinchun dared to defame a peaceful meditation group, and even publicly attack a Falun Gong practitioner in the western media? The reason that Pan dared to do so is because defaming and persecuting Falun Gong, as well as generating hate propaganda, have become a special "responsibility" for Chinese diplomatic officers overseas. This can be seen from the content and links on their websites, slanderous posters inside the embassy or consulate buildings, and from the materials they send to local VIPs, media or community libraries. This can also be seen in the activities they have organized, including the so-called "religious delegates" and "cultural delegates."

However, such hate propaganda and persecution are consistently and firmly opposed in civilized societies. In Canada, such opposition comes not only from Falun Gong practitioners, but also from mainstream society and government officials. After receiving hate propaganda from China, many officials saw through their lies and publicly denounced them.

Who is the Next Defendant?

In fact, if people knew where Pan's slanderous words came from, they would not be surprised that Pan dared to do so with no fear.

In mainland China, after July 20^th, 1999, many Chinese people were tired of the persecution and propaganda tactics in the style of the Cultural Revolution. At the end of October 1999, when Jiang was interviewed by Le Figaro, he defamed Falun Gong publicly. People's Daily, the official propaganda machine for the Communist party, echoed Jiang's slander closely, and made up so-called evidence to support Jiang's speech. Five days after Jiang's defaming Falun Gong, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress approved a resolution. By having the people's congress pass a resolution, Jiang finished laying a foundation to justify his genocidal persecution of Falun Gong.

More than 4 years have passed and Jiang continues to persecute innocent practitioners on a large scale via the "610 Office," using the policy of "ruining their reputations, bankrupting them, and destroying them physically." There are labor camps and brainwashing centers everywhere across China. Jiang is utilizing one quarter of the nation's economic resources to persecute tens of millions of practitioners. In fact, throughout the persecution, Pan Xinchun is a person who has done bad deeds, but he is also a victim. The ultimate criminal in the persecution is Jiang. However, everyone is responsible for his own actions. In a society governed by the rule of law, anyone who is involved in this persecution, no matter in what form, will be held accountable.

It has been confirmed that two male Falun Gong practitioners in Yangquan City, Shanxi Province have been tortured to death in labor camps. Guo Jifang, over 50 years old, died from brutal abuse two years ago in the Tuanhe Labor Camp in Beijing. Li Huiwen, a young Chinese medical doctor, was tortured to death a year ago in the Xindian Labor Camp in Shanxi Province.

According to sources in China, Guo Jifang went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in 2001, and was illegally detained in the Tuanhe Labor Camp in Beijing. A month later he died as a result of the brutal abuse he suffered there.

An officer in the Yangquan City Police Department, Shanxi Province confirmed Guo Jifang's death. He said that the cause of the death could not be explained in one or two sentences.

According to another source, a 32-year-old Chinese medicine doctor, Li Huiwen, from the Mining Bureau Hospital in Yangquan was sent to the Xindian Labor Camp in Shanxi, where he was severely tortured for persisting in his practice of Falun Gong. Mr. Li protested with a hunger strike but was barbarously force-fed, and died from the torture. [Force-feeding is the number one cause of death for Falun Gong practitioners. The purpose of police force-feeding is not to nourish, but rather to torture practitioners and cause so much pain that they will renounce the practice of Falun Gong. To that end, the police have used many different means to cause excruciating pain and injury, including inserting and withdrawing the feeding tubes repeatedly, leaving the feeding tubes in the stomach, knocking out teeth while attempting to force-feed, force-feeding saturated salt-water, vinegar/liquor, or urine/feces, etc.]

A doctor in the Mining Bureau Hospital confirmed that Li Huiwen graduated from Shanxi Chinese Medicine Institute. He was arrested in Taiyuan City for practicing Falun Gong and was sent back to Yangquan City and then to the labor camp.

A few days ago the personnel in the human resource department of the hospital confirmed that Li Huiwen died around February of 2003. He has parents and siblings. His father is partially disabled and walks with a cane. Li Huiwen's wife was also detained for practicing Falun Gong and later released.

Ms. Hou Youfang, 49, was a Falun Gong practitioner and a teacher at Xipuo High School in Jinchang City, Gansu province. She graduated from the Department of Physics at Lanzhou University.

She was detained in a detention center in Jinchang city for fifteen days in 2000 after attempting an appeal to end the persecution of Falun Gong in Beijing. She was fined 9,997 Yuan. [Five hundred Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China.] The police claimed that the money was necessary to cover the expenses of the three policemen who went to Beijing to pick her up. She received 1,000 Yuan back after insisting on her rights. Her husband divorced her because of the huge pressure Jiang's followers applied at that time. The high school no longer allowed her to teach students. Instead, she was assigned to be a cook and to do heavy manual labor, and was only paid 200 Yuan a month. She had to rent a room in the countryside as she did not have a place to live at the school. The officials talked to her and said that she would be paid, assigned an apartment, and restored to her job if she promised not to practice Falun Gong. She would not change her resolute belief in Dafa.

She was taken away by police in August 2002 for distributing truth-clarifying materials to people, and was illegally detained in Group Two, Section 7 of the Pingantai No. 1 Forced Labor Camp of Gansu province. She was beaten hard and forcibly made to give up her belief with the torture of being hung up with her hands cuffed behind her back [with both hands cuffed behind the back, both feet off or only toes touching the ground, one is hung onto a basketball support or house beam by the handcuffs. Both hands and arms will soon lose sensory perception. In addition, both hands will go numb from lack of blood circulation]. When she could not endure the torture any longer she agreed, against her conscience, to sign papers saying that she would give up her belief. However, she reaffirmed her belief later. Then, the police began to torture her relentlessly, forcing her to stand outdoors for a month while denying her sleep indoors. She resolutely refused to write the so-called "Repentance Statement" [In this statement the practitioner is forced to admit remorse for practicing Falun Gong, promises to give up Falun Gong, and never again associate with other practitioners or go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.] So the police began to beat her cruelly. As a result, her arms and legs were broken. She died on November 29, 2002 because of the torture. It was said that she suffered from internal bleeding. Her rib cage and pelvic cavity were broken as a result of the beating.

In order to cover up the truth, the police department cremated her body without notifying her family members and immediately assigned the killer to another work unit. Hou Youfang's mother still does not know that her daughter died violently at the hands of the police.

(Clearwisdom.net) In the past four years, the Captain of the National Security Brigade, Gong Chuanxing and his followers have persecuted many local Dafa practitioners and their families. In order to expose their crimes and help bring an end to the persecution, we will list their crimes today and in the future.

Ms. Li was an employee at the Aohanqi Production Plant. She refused to give up the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance, and she set out for Beijing three times in 1999 to appeal for Falun Gong. However, each time the police intercepted her midway and returned her to Aohanqi. She was illegally sentenced to three years of forced labor and later transferred from the labor camp to the Chifeng City Psychiatric Hospital. She was subjected to punitive administration of nerve-damaging drugs, even though no evidence existed showing that she suffered from any psychiatric disorder. The nerve-damaging drugs paralyzed her cognitive functions and made her appear to be a psychiatric patient. After Ms. Li Suya was released, a distant relative took her in and looked after her. However, the local police would not leave her alone. During the 16th Assembly of the National People's Congress in 2003, the local police abducted her and took her to the forced brainwashing center for half a month.

Mr. Ji is a college graduate and an employee at the Aohanqi Property Tax Bureau. Mr. Ji journeyed to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on July 20, 1999. After his return, every week the staff from the National Security Brigade and his employer would try to pressure him into writing a guarantee not to practice Falun Gong. In October 1999, Mr. Ji traveled to Beijing again to appeal for Falun Dafa, but the Captain of the National Security Brigade, Gong Chuanxing, and his policemen took Mr. Ji back to Aohanqi and sentenced him to two years in prison. Soon afterwards, his wife divorced him, taking both their property and their child. When Mr. Ji was released in the fall of 2001, he was homeless, so he stayed temporarily at the residence of Dafa practitioners Mr. Sun Guorong and Mrs. Jiang Zhili. After just over a month, the police arrested Mr. Ji for clarifying the truth about the persecution on the streets. According to Chinese laws, Mr. Ji had the right to appeal, but the authorities denied him his rights. He was held in a detention center. Mr. Ji often found himself being physically and verbally abused by the staff at the detention center. He protested against the persecution and his own imprisonment several times by going on hunger strikes, and each time he was tortured. Four or five men (disciplinary staff and prison inmates) would drag him outside to force-feed him with high-concentration salt-water while holding him down. [Note: Force-feeding with saturated salt-water causes intense pain in the gut. Many practitioners have died from this because of the resulting dehydration.] Later Mr. Ji was sentenced to five years in prison. He is now incarcerated in Chifeng Prison, and he is still being physically and psychologically tortured.

The police abducted Mr. Sun Guorong, his wife Ms. Jiang Zhili and Mr. Ji Xiaodong, a practitioner temporarily staying with the Sun's after leaving home to avoid the persecution. Policemen from the National Security Brigade left nothing in the Suns' home untouched, and the floor was strewn with objects the police had thrown around. These policemen kept cursing and uttering nothing but profanities while they ransacked the Sun's house, and they then knocked down the closet. Finally, the police abducted Mr. and Mrs. Sun, and left their 13-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son alone at home with no one to care for them. Guard Ji Yahuan is infamous for her vicious treatment of incarcerated Dafa practitioners in the detention center. Ji Yahuan once entered Ms. Jiang Zhili's cell, raised Ms. Jiang's shirt and found her wearing a belt approximately 1.1 feet in length made from leftover yarn. [The detention center forbids wearing belts, so Ms. Jiang had to use leftover yarn to prevent her pants from dropping.] Ji Yahuan immediately struck Ms. Jiang's face twice and verbally abused her. All of the practitioners at the detention are required to recite the rules of the detention center, or they are savagely beaten and forced to remain standing for an extended period of time.

Later Mr. and Mrs. Sun Guorong were each sentenced to three years in prison. Mr. Sun Guorong is now incarcerated in Chifeng Prison, where he is subjected to many tortures. The whereabouts of Mrs. Jiang Zhili are unknown.

Ms. Liu Yanhui is a college graduate, and he was employed at the Aohanqi Technology Supervision Bureau. Prior to practicing Falun Gong, Ms. Liu suffered from aseptic necrosis of the femoral heads (a difficult to cure bone disease affecting the femur, or upper leg bones) and uremia (accumulation in the blood of constituents normally eliminated in the urine that produces a severe toxic condition and usually occurs as a result of severe kidney disease.) Because of these ailments, she had difficulty walking. Furthermore, each time she tried to walk, she would be in agony. She sought medical treatment from the best doctors she could find, but nothing helped. She even contemplated having her legs amputated in Beijing. After Ms. Liu started to practice Falun Gong in 1996, her ailments continually improved and eventually disappeared entirely. Ms. Liu went to Beijing on July 20, 1999 to appeal for Falun Gong. Upon her return, Ms. Liu was taken to a detention center. In the fall of 2001, Ms. Liu was arrested for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to local residents. One morning, Yu Ze, a guard in the detention center, noticed her practicing Falun Gong exercises and bound her hands with seven pairs of handcuffs. The handcuffs cut her wrists and caused incessant bleeding. Yu Ze then asked her, "Will you practice Falun Gong again?" She replied, "Yes." The prison guards then handcuffed her to the door to the courtyard, and they deliberately left the door open to expose her to the freezing cold. Later Ms. Liu Yanhui was sentenced to four years in prison.

Ms. Zhu Rong lived in the northern part of Xinhui Town, Aohanqi. She is a kind woman with a pure heart. Ms. Zhu was completely illiterate. After Ms. Zhu Rong practiced Falun Gong, she was sentenced to two years in prison in the fall of 2001. Even so, her belief in Falun Gong was not shaken. In the fall of 2003, Ms. Zhu Rong was abducted again and sent to a forced brainwashing center in Chifeng City. Strangely enough, the brainwashing staff has published an article in the Aohan News supposedly written by Ms. Zhu Rong, and this article contained nothing but lies. Since Ms. Zhu is illiterate, it is not difficult to conclude that someone else wrote this article.

Mr. Li Haidong is a Dafa practitioner from Dashiqiao, Liaoning Province. The police abducted him while he was in Aohanqi. They used all sorts of cruel tortures against Mr. Li Haidong, including shocking him with eight electric cattle prods simultaneously for several consecutive days and nights. Mr. Li is now imprisoned in the Aohanqi Detention Center.

In February 2002, Dafa practitioners from Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province, including Ms. Xu Xiuying, Ms. Li Yingxuan, and Ms. Jiao Zhihua, were abducted by Aohanqi police while distributing truth-clarification flyers. The Aohanqi police repeatedly struck them. When the police handcuffed their swelling wrists after the beating, the handcuffs cut deeply into their flesh. The police had them sit on a cold concrete floor for a long period of time. In addition to torturing the practitioners physically, the police also pocketed all of their money. They then videotaped the practitioners and broadcast the footage on the local TV network. Later, Gong Chuanxing took them to the Aohanqi Public Security Bureau. After the police van arrived at the security bureau, the policemen pulled them by the hair up a flight of stairs while admitting matter-of-factly, "We don't even treat murderers in this manner." Police officer Dai Fengrong used a belt to tie the heads of Ms. Xu Xiuying and Ms. Li Yingxuan together, forcing them to tilt their heads backward and causing them to have a hard time even to breathe. Dai Fengrong poured water all over their faces while they were tied together. Two days later, the police officers of the Aohanqi Public Security Bureau beat them savagely at night. They tortured Ms. Li Yingxuan by pinching her lips with a pincer about seven to eight inches long. They showered Ms. Jiao Zhihua with violent slaps to the face. The Head of the Public Security Bureau personally flogged Ms. Xu Xiuying's back with a leather belt. On the third morning, Gong Chuanxing came and repeatedly slapped Ms. Xu Xiuying in the face. Then the police tried to extort 3,000 to 4,000 yuan from each person in exchange for their release, but none of them gave in [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China.]. Finally, the police lowered the price to 2,000 yuan. Police officer Li Fengjun told them shamelessly, "You are ignorant of the simplest matters! If each of you had given us 5,000 yuan at the time of the arrest, we would have released you right away."

The police became embarrassed, then enraged, when they failed to extort any money from the practitioners, so they transferred these practitioners to the detention center for escalated torture as revenge. Once in the detention center, they went on a joint hunger strike to protest the persecution. The Head of the detention center Mr. Zuo Fu goaded the prison inmates to torture them with abusive force-feeding of salted-soup that was already foul and saturated salt water. [Note: The purpose of police force-feeding is not to provide nourishment, but rather to punish practitioners and to cause so much pain that they will renounce Falun Gong. To that end, the police have used many different means to cause excruciating pain and injury.] When the prison inmates failed to force-feed them with saturated salt-water or soup that had gone bad, they poured it over the practitioners. As a result, the practitioners' clothes and even undergarments became soaking wet. Before their clothes could dry, the inmates would start the next round of abusive force-feeding and splashing. During the freezing cold winters, these three practitioners would be soaked around the clock,, and it was as though they were wearing layers of icy water. Soon, Ms. Xu Xiuying became extremely frail due to the brutal tortures. However, Gong Chuanxing and his accomplices did not lessen their persecution. Finally, twenty-five days later, when Ms. Xu Xiuying was at the brink of death, the policemen contemplated releasing them. However, the police hid the torture and the alarming health conditions of the practitioners from their families to extort 3,000 yuan from each family before they finally released them. After Ms. Xu Xiuying returned home, she was still extremely frail. Blood seeped out from her mouth, she was afflicted by a high fever, and she could not stop coughing. Ten days later, the police went to Ms. Jiao Zhihua's home and attempted to abduct her again. Fortunately, Ms. Jiao's family had already sent her to a safer place, so the police did not succeed. Moreover, the police often called and harassed Ms. Xu Xiuying's family. As a result of the persecution, Ms. Xu's elderly parents have not seen her for several years. These are some of the crimes that Gong Chuanxing and his policemen have committed against Falun Gong practitioners.

We are still investigating and collecting the facts of the many crimes against Falun Gong practitioners committed by Gong Chuanxing and his followers, as well as the total amount of money they have extorted from Falun Gong practitioners in Aohanqi, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. We will continue to publish our findings in China and abroad.

(Clearwisdom.net) The former head of the Weifang "610 Office"* Song Jiwu, in collaboration with the Weifang Forced Labor Camp, has been holding brainwashing sessions inside the labor camp since March 15, 2001. The deputy head of the Forced Labor Camp, Zou Jintian has been directly involved in the brainwashing. The Head of the Camp's Second Division, Ding Guihua has also been directly involved in arranging the persecution of Dafa practitioners. The Deputy Head of the Second Division, Xu Shimin has been responsible for carrying out the arrangements. Policemen involved in the brainwashing classes include Zhu Weiguang, Liu Jianguang, Song X and Liu X [X indicates first name unknown].

The following are several of the methods mainly used in the persecution:

1. To limit the personal freedom of Falun Dafa practitioners who have been taken to the brainwashing center, they are all put under close surveillance. There are surveillance cameras in each of their rooms so that their movements are watched carefully. Each Dafa practitioner being persecuted will usually have one or two people monitoring him. (Usually these are the colleagues from the work units where the practitioners work.). As a matter of fact, the practitioners are under round-the-clock surveillance. Dafa practitioners who are forced to attend the brainwashing sessions are followed almost step by step. They are not allowed to visit other rooms or pass messages to other Falun Dafa practitioners. It is said that they are not even allowed to glance at other practitioners.

2. After being taken to the forced labor camp the police will first constantly defame and tell lies to practitioners as well as threaten them, "If you do not renounce your belief in Falun Dafa you will be sentenced to forced labor." Then the collaborators [Former Falun Gong practitioners who have renounced the practice due to brainwashing and torture and assist in persecuting Dafa practitioners.] repeat the lies to practitioners over and over.

3. If a practitioner does not sign the so-called "Repentance Statement" [A statement to acknowledge remorse for practicing Falun Gong, to give up Falun Gong, and to never again associate with those practitioners who practice Falun Gong and/ or go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.] the practitioners are deprived of sleep for extended periods. Some of the practitioners are not allowed to sleep for five or six days in succession. The forced labor camps adopt various techniques to conduct repeated brainwashing.

4. When the practitioners are not in their right mind as a result of repeated torture the camp police will force them to watch video tapes that defame Falun Dafa.

5. They also use the sentiment for family to torture the practitioners. The police in the forced labor camp not only torture the Falun Dafa practitioners but also force the practitioners' relatives to write them letters in an attempt to use human sentiments to put pressure on the practitioners.

6. Force feeding practitioners who are on hunger strike. [Force-feeding is the number one cause of death for Falun Gong practitioners. The purpose of police force-feeding is not to nourish, but rather to torture practitioners and to cause so much pain that they will renounce the practice of Falun Gong. To that end, the police have used many different means to cause excruciating pain and injury, including inserting and withdrawing the feeding tubes repeatedly, leaving the feeding tubes in the stomach, knocking out teeth while attempting to force-feed, force-feeding saturated salt-water, vinegar/liquor, or urine/feces, etc.]

7. Charging practitioners money for brainwashing. Falun Dafa practitioners who have been abducted to the brainwashing site are forced to pay their own living expenses, accommodations, and related expenses for the brainwashing. These expenses could be as little as a few thousand yuan [Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban worker is about 500 yuan.] and as high as tens of thousands of yuan.

* "610 Office" is a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches.

(Clearwisdom.net) On November 16, 2002 the Law Court of Dengta City, Liaoning Province staged a trial for Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Gao Hui, whose pseudonym is Li Jun, and unlawfully sentenced him to ten years in jail because of his belief in Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance.

Gao Hui was framed by Zhen Youli, the security director in Beiqing Village, Liule Town. Zhen Youli found a false witness from nearby Xiaoyuzhong to testify in court. This man said that Gao Hui distributed materials that clarified the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong and the court illegally sentenced Gao Hui to seven years in jail. In his defense, Gao Hui tried to say that the court did not have any evidence or facts. The court would not allow him to speak and claimed he was acting in contempt of the court, so they added three more years to his sentence. Thus, a steadfast practitioner was illegally sentenced to prison for 10 years.

(Clearwisdom.net) Recently, some local practitioners have manifested serious illnesses. This has occurred mostly among elderly practitioners. Some went to a hospital for a check up but no illnesses were found. However, doctors still seemed to find some excuse to give out prescriptions. Some practitioners felt well when they left the hospital but sick again when they arrived home. Some practitioners have shared their experiences with me and here I present my understandings and hope other practitioners will add their understandings.

For a long time some practitioners have been satisfied with the fact that Dafa can heal illnesses, especially those elderly practitioners. Some used to have very serious illnesses, which were cured after practicing Falun Gong. The practitioners would tell everyone that Falun Gong is good. However, whenever a xinxing [mind or heart nature, moral character] test came along, it was hard for them to pass. Sometimes they would even react like ordinary people, and if they really couldn't pass the test they would share their experiences with practitioners and ask for help. I am not against practitioners sharing experiences. I am just saying that the Fa that Teacher taught is for us to use in cultivation. If we study the Fa but don't apply the Fa, are we not studying the Fa just for the sake of studying? If this occurs for a long time, are we still cultivating within Dafa? Teacher said, "Why do I tell you to study, read, and memorize Zhuan Falun? To guide your cultivation!" ("What is Cultivation Practice?" Falun Dafa Essentials for Further Advancement)

When this drags on for a long time and the hardships increase, it is even harder to enlighten to the problem. Teacher said in Teaching and Explaining the Fa at the Metropolitan New York Fa Conference:

Fa rectification has nearly reached its end yet practitioners still have not broken through the self-cultivation circle. Even though we are clarifying the truth and sending forth righteous thoughts, we have not realized our real duties in our hearts. Some practitioners are still at the eliminating disease karma stage. If practitioners are burdened by such attachments for long periods of time, the evil will take advantage of them. When Teacher gives hints, even if some practitioners enlighten to it, they still do not follow them, but continue to ask Teacher for help. I truly hope these practitioners can look within themselves, eliminate all ordinary people's attachments, and not just talk about letting go, but really do it. Cultivation is a very serious matter. "No human attachment can be taken to heaven." ("Teaching the Fa at the Western U.S. Fa Conference") How can we consummate when we hold on to our attachments and refuse to let go?

Some practitioners are burdened by sentimentality. If others are good to him, he is happy. If others are not good to him, he is very upset. Teacher taught us, "When some people say that you're good, you might not really be good, and when some people say that you're bad, you might not really be bad." (Zhuan Falun). The only standard for measuring good and bad is "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance." Even though we are practicing within the ordinary people's society, we cannot look at ourselves as ordinary people. We must treat ourselves as practitioners every minute of the day. Under any circumstances we must not be moved by ordinary people's attachments and must keep a compassionate and peaceful mind.

I hope that we can all study the Fa well, and at the same time we should follow Dafa and do well the three things that Teacher asks us to do. Only in this way can we keep up with Teacher's Fa rectification process.

Their two year old child was born while they were homeless in order to avoid further persecution. This couple grew up in the countryside and did not know anything about computers. In order to save people, however, they overcame a lot of obstacles and learned how to operate a computer. They download Teacher's articles frequently, as well articles from Minghui.net and distribute them to practitioners and everyday people so they may know the facts about Falun Dafa.)

Prior to the persecution of Falun Dafa in China I did not know how to operate a computer, and I often envied those people who could type very fast and proficiently. However, due to the needs of Fa-rectification, I learned to use a computer and to type; my typing though is extremely slow. [typing in Chinese is very different from typing in English. The person must first type in the phonetic spelling of Chinese in order to generate the proper Chinese character on the screen, then must go back and proofread extensively.]

Due to the international lawsuits against Jiang Zemin for the crime of genocide, there were a lot of cases of persecution which needed to be compiled. To aid in this endeavor practitioners around the world have been recording their experiences and the details about the location and how they were persecuted in order to expose these crimes. All of this information needed to be put into computers and organized so it could then be accessed by other practitioners via the internet.

My role was to type up these cases so that on the day of the court hearing all the information was readily accessible. However as the hearing date drew near the pile of materials was still very large due to my inability to type very quickly. As I looked at the huge pile of practitioners' testimonies, I started to feel frustrated and I just wanted to finish the typing as soon as possible. I edited out some sentences that I thought were not important. Later, I emailed the completed files to another practitioner. I received a response informing me that it was important to copy all the persecution cases exactly as they were written and not edit any sentences. I realized that this was Teacher's hint to me and I needed to treat Dafa's work more sincerely and strictly. However, at that moment, I really did not look inside myself to find out the root of the problem.

After Teacher's comments on the article entitled "Expose the Evil Happening Locally to the Local People" was published, practitioners strictly followed Teacher's comments and started writing out their stories about how they were persecuted in their hometowns by local people who followed Jiang's persecution policy against Falun Gong. While I was typing their stories, I still had an attachment of frustration and tried to finish the typing quickly. However, I discovered this attachment very quickly and decided to get rid of it and in the process of doing so, many other attachments I had were exposed.

Because I was responsible for taking care of a two year old child, doing the housework, and balancing the three things practitioners should do well, (which are to study the Fa well, send forth righteous thoughts and clarify the truth to the public) I always felt that I did not have enough time and was very tired, failing to look at the problem from the Fa's standpoint. When I saw unclear handwriting, grammatically incorrect sentences or marked error locations, all these caused me to type even more slowly, and then I would start to complain again. I remembered one overseas practitioner said that every time she talked about the persecution of her family, her heart was bleeding, but she still needed to speak out about it. For each individual practitioner, I think when they recalled the brutal persecution that they had gone through, it was very difficult for them to describe or express their experiences and the hardship they suffered. However, I did not use a compassionate heart to understand their hardship. Instead, I complained that their writing was sloppy and that it affected my typing speed and wasted my time. It was all based on my selfish point of view and my own self-interest. The fundamental point was that I had a very selfish heart. These practitioners had dared to risk their lives to determinedly expose the evil acts and validate the Fa. Yet I was complaining because I had to type a bit longer. Every word these practitioners say and every move these practitioners make during the Fa-rectification period could reveal the battle between righteousness and evil in other dimensions. Now when I think back on this problem it looked very simple, but it exposed some of my attachments that I should have gotten rid of a long time ago. As Teacher said,

Thus, we should never forget to cultivate ourselves while volunteering for Dafa and strictly use the Falun Dafa principles to set a standard for ourselves.

Several times I wanted to write down my experiences but I changed my mind. I let myself think that I already understood this problem's root cause and that it was a very trivial thing. However, when I looked at it from the viewpoint of the Fa, I realized that it was again those deviated substances trying to prevent me from writing down my experience. I also realized that in the process of writing, I was also rejecting and eliminating those deviated substances. As they were afraid of being eliminated, they formed all kinds of reasons in my mind to stop me from eliminating them.

(Clearwisdom.net) I started to practice Falun Gong in 1995. For the past eight years, I have been following Teacher's teachings, behaving according to the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance." Many people around me have realized the goodness of Falun Dafa, and this has made me understand that Falun Dafa can perfectly harmonize everything.

My Family

In 1995, I started to practice Falun Gong in order to acquire a healthy body. After I learned Falun Gong, I introduced it to my family members and close friends. I got books for them and practiced the exercises with them. The result was very good. My sisters and friends all said they had benefited a lot, and many of them practiced diligently in the group and never stopped studying the book or practicing the exercises. They all continuously behaved according to the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance." It is true that as long as you study the book, you will make improvements.

As I strove to practice the qualities of "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance" in every situation, the atmosphere at home gradually improved. There are more than 30 sisters and brothers in my mother-in-law's family, and every one of them says I am a good person. I can be tolerant of everyone. No matter how others treat me, I treat them with compassion and try my best to help them. Even though the parents-in-law are normally the most critical people when it comes to their daughter-in-law, my parents-in-law tell everyone they meet that I am dutiful and respectful. I told them it is because I practice Falun Gong. Hence I won everyone's respect towards Falun Gong.

In August 2002, I went to visit my mother-in-law. I had forgotten to bring the Falun Gong books, so my mother-in-law, who was very ill, wanted to go out and borrow the book for me. I thanked her and refused. Later, my father-in-law borrowed Zhuan Falun for me. When he took out the book from the inside of his jacket and put it in front of me, I was really happy. My parents-in-law are not practitioners, but they respect Teacher very much and they think that Falun Dafa is good. A few of my relatives had once listened to the regime's lies that were manipulated by the media, but now they are also practicing Falun Gong. They often tell me their experiences in practicing Falun Gong. Even my elder brother, who had objections for a long time, also knows that Falun Gong is good.

Neighbors and Friends

Because I started to practice Falun Gong quite early, many of my neighbors know about it. I often talked to them about the principles of Falun Gong, even after the persecution started. I have been rationally introducing Falun Gong and clarifying the truth with wisdom as requested by Teacher, and trying to communicate with them in my spare time. They all understand that I am strong and healthy.

Once, my neighbor Ms. Zhang did good deeds for the neighborhood. I talked to her and showed my admiration. She said, "Am not I learning from you?" Falun Gong made my relationship with the neighbors and friends improve. The most important thing is to behave well as a practitioner and to show people the beauty of Falun Dafa.

Workplace and Colleagues

From July 20, 1999 until now, I have the job with the most responsibility in my company. I require myself to adhere to the standards of Falun Dafa, because I deeply understand Teacher's instructions: "Study the Fa and obtain the Fa, Share in learning and share in cultivating, Following [the Fa] in everything, Compliance is cultivation." (Hong Yin). Besides my work, I practice the exercises, read Falun Gong books, tell people about the truth of the persecution, and instantly correct myself when I do not do well.

After our company started a major construction project, people all thought that there would be lots of bonuses given out. However, I did not take one cent, but instead made many contributions. I worked overtime and also contributed financially to the project. I left home early and came back late, and traveled in my own car to sort out matters related to the project. My co-workers were really touched and said they have never seen a colleague like me before, without a bit of selfishness. How many leaders now are not corrupted? I told them that I behaved like that because of practicing Falun Gong. Teacher taught me to be like this. They all admire Falun Dafa now because I try to use every chance to tell my colleagues how good Falun Gong is. Some of them have started practicing Falun Gong, and they say that Teacher is really great. The book contains all sorts of knowledge and explains everything very clearly. Our workplace operates harmoniously, which had never happened before. If there is work to be done, everyone rushes to do it. We all work together and try to solve as many problems as possible together. My colleagues said, "We are willing to do anything by following this kind of leader." Society is corrupt to such a degree, and people are not willing to do anything; many feel angry whatever they do. None of my colleagues have objections to my leadership. Our relationship is very harmonious; it is the manifestation of Falun Dafa's mighty power.

Every time I speak at a meeting, I say that I have learned tolerance from Teacher. I speak to my colleagues about the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" in light of the various situations we find ourselves in. Once I was chatting with a colleague at lunch break and talked about Falun Gong. She said: "I know Falun Gong is good, I see it from you. After you practiced Falun Gong, everything became smooth for you. You are not selfish and we all admire you." She also said: "Truthfulness is to treat people truthfully without deception; Compassion is to treat everything and everyone with kindness; Forbearance is to be tolerant when encountering unhappy people or a matter at work, and to take a step backwards in conflicts." I felt very happy upon hearing her words. She also told me that she had received some pamphlets about Falun Gong. She reads all the Falun Gong materials she gets and hides them at home. I said to her, "Good. After reading these materials, you can also give them to your family members to read."

Even though my colleagues may not understand the principles of Falun Gong completely, their sincere hearts towards Falun Dafa are very precious. It is Falun Dafa that perfectly harmonized my workplace.

The Fa-rectification is moving so fast, and Falun Dafa practitioners' righteous thoughts and actions are very important. Falun Dafa can perfectly harmonize everything. We need to harmonize everything around us with actions according to the Fa. Falun Dafa can uplift people's morality and correct people's hearts.

Cuihua was going to appeal for an end of to the persecution of Falun Gong in Beijing, but police officers caught her and sent her to a drug addicts' correctional facility. When they released her, they kept her ID for more than 3 years, during which she went back once to claim it. A policeman told her, "The head of the facility is traveling on official business. If you want to get the ID back, you have to write guarantee and separation letters." Since this means signing papers stating that she will no longer practice Falun Gong, Cuihua left without another word.

Later the head of the correctional facility came back, and Cuihua went to see him for her ID. He gave her back the ID without requesting a thing. He told her, "Go and tell the practitioners that you know, they can come and get back their IDs. I won't give them any trouble. I know that you are all good people."

When an elderly practitioner told his daughter and son-in-law about Falun Gong, they said indifferently, "You can practice at home and believe in what you want. We won't interfere, even though we don't believe in it." Later, his son in-law's stomach was aching, he was vomiting and had blood in his feces. When he was diagnosed with cancer, the couple became extremely distressed.

When the elderly practitioner went to visit them, he taught his son in-law to recite, "Falun Dafa is good" sincerely. He told them that good things would happen to them. They thought the situation was hopeless, so they decided to give it a try. When they went home they started reciting, "Falun Dafa is good." His daughter, after much repetition, discovered that the words, "Falun Dafa is good" seemed to be springing forth out of her heart. She even had the urge to write them down. On the second day, her husband seemed fine, and when they went to the hospital, he was found to be healthy, without any traces of the cancer.

They realized that the practitioners were speaking the truth all along. Many people in China today are being fooled by Jiang's lies. Purging the misunderstandings from people's minds and allowing them to understand that Falun Dafa is good is our purpose in clarifying the truth.

(Clearwisdom.net) There are a lot of Falun Gong practitioners in my neighborhood, and I had frequently received truth-clarification pamphlets, pictures and VCDs. I looked at them thoroughly, sometimes by myself and sometimes with my family. The more I watched the VCDs and read the pamphlets, the better I understood Falun Gong. I am convinced that what's been said in the materials is sensible and trustworthy, and Jiang is ruthless. From knowing nothing about Falun Gong, I came to know, to sympathize, and to support Falun Gong. I began to try to learn more about it.

On one occasion, a friend of mine told me that Falun Gong is persecuted in China, but it is spreading fast overseas. He told me that a lot of people he knew lost their jobs and didn't have any income. However, they are optimistic and happy even though their physical life is harsh. They contribute all the money they still have to purchase paper, CDs, and office equipment to make truth-clarification materials.

I asked how they make a living. He told me that they usually eat plain bread with pickled vegetables and none of them complain. They are busy making materials and clarifying the truth. The place they live is also very primitive.

I was deeply moved. For personal gain and self-interest, nowadays people fight with each other with all means, and nobody is thinking about anyone but himself. The worst are those corrupt officials. What a sharp contrast compared to Falun Dafa practitioners.

Falun Gong, what a great way of cultivation! Why is it not allowed to be practiced? Why are so many good people being persecuted? Now I will tell those who do not practice Falun Gong and those who were misled by the false propaganda: Falun Dafa is really good. Look carefully at what they are enduring and what they are giving--it moves me deeply and gives me hope. It's been four years. Falun Gong friends, be persistent. It won't be very long!

(Clearwisdom.net) Early in the summer of 2003, three officers from the Police Department of Yilong County, Sichuan province went to visit some elementary schools in Yilong County. They tempted many students with ice cream or 10 yuan in cash if they would tell which of their neighbors were practicing Falun Gong.

One day they came to Yilong County Jincheng Elementary School. One of the officers had a notebook while the other two asked a little girl, "Is anyone in your family practicing Falun Gong? What's your phone number?" The little girl didn't answer them. Then they asked another girl, "Who practices Falun Gong in your house? If you tell us, we'll buy you ice cream. If you don't want the ice cream, we'll give you 10 yuan." Then they took out a 10 yuan bill and flashed it in front of her. The little girl said, "I know that Falun Gong is good. I won't tell you. There isn't anyone practicing at my house."

(Clearwisdom.net) VOA reported on February 5 that New York based organization, China Psychiatric Watch, condemned China for subjecting Falun Gong practitioners to mental torment.

China Psychiatric Watch, which was founded last November, said that many Chinese citizens have been persecuted for practicing Falun Gong. They are abducted, and sent to brainwashing classes, labor camps or mental hospitals to be physically and mentally tortured. Their salaries are withheld and their houses are ransacked and property confiscated. Some people have developed mental disorders due the torture they received in labor camps. According to the information this organization has collected so far, there are over one hundred mental hospitals and clinics that are involved in mentally persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.

China Psychiatric Watch's mission is to seek justice for those who suffer mental persecution in Chinese labor camps or mental hospitals. However, the majority of the cases it collects are related to Falun Gong. A member of the organization, Lu Yang, said, "We are not a Falun Gong organization. We are a group of professionals. Anyone who is concerned with mental torment can join us. We enroll members from all walks of life. We do not have financial support from anybody else. Instead, we operate at our own expense." Lu Yang indicated she is a Falun Gong practitioner.

(Clearwisdom.net) A multi-cultural week at the University of Manchester was held from February 9-13 2004. The Falun Gong Student Organization was invited to participate on Tuesday, which was Asian Culture Day. Several practitioners demonstrated Falun Gong's five sets of exercises on stage at an evening concert. At the same time, another practitioner introduced Falun Gong, including the characteristics of each set of exercises, Falun Gong's popularity around the world and the persecution happening inside China. During the half-hour demonstration, many students were absorbed in watching the exercises; some of them even started learning in their seats by following practitioners' movements.

As soon as the demonstration was finished, many students flocked to our stall and asked for Dafa materials or details of the free exercise practice site. After watching practitioners perform the peaceful exercises, many people just couldn't believe or understand why China persists in persecuting Falun Gong. At the end of the concert, the organizer thanked us again for taking part and bringing such a beautiful exercise performance to all.

As the truth of Falun Gong has spread among the people and society, many Falun Gong student organizations have been established in famous universities in the UK to provide free teaching for people who are interested in learning the Falun Gong exercises or knowing more about the practice and its roots in traditional Chinese culture.

(Clearwisdom.net) In the autumn of 2003, a blood vessel in my brain suddenly burst, causing my limbs to become numb and making it very difficult to move at all. My eyes and mouth were askew and I could not speak clearly. I was forced to rely on my husband to help me with even the simple things of daily living, like getting dressed and eating. My suffering was terribly painful.

During that time my family sought medical treatment for me everywhere, and spent more than 4,000 Yuan on medicines and therapies, but none could improve my condition [note: 500 Yuan is equal to the average monthly salary of an urban worker in China]. My entire family was suffering because of my disability. After exhausting our savings on medical treatment that did not help, my family, including myself, lost all hope of a cure.

November 9, 2003, is a day that I will never forget. This was the day that the townspeople were all out shopping at the market. A Falun Gong practitioner came to visit my home and talked with me about the practice of Falun Gong. After listening to what she said, I immediately felt that Falun Gong was very good, and I listened earnestly. While listening, strange things began to happen. As I talked, my voice was getting clearer and clearer. After the practitioner left, my husband returned from the market and I said to him: "Hi, you are back." My voice was so clear. It was a big surprise for my husband. He asked me, "How can you talk so well?" I then told him that I had met a Falun Gong practitioner. He was very happy after listening and said, "Then, you should practice Falun Gong!" It was such good fortune to have found the path of cultivation. The next day, the practitioner came back and taught me the Falun Gong exercises. Under her guidance, I studied the teachings of Falun Gong and practiced the exercises. Each day my health was noticeably improved. My numb body slowly regained feeling. On December 14, just over one month after learning Falun Gong, my health was basically back to normal. When the next market day came, I could go to the market freely like other people in town.

My experience let the people in my village witness the wonderful benefits of Falun Dafa. In writing today, I speak on behalf of my whole family, to say "thank you" to Teacher for his merciful salvation. Thank you Teacher, for introducing Falun Gong to the public. I will never fail Teacher's salvation and I will use my actions to help Teacher in the Fa rectification period. I will practice Falun Dafa forever.

Upon arriving at home, I saw a very chaotic scene, and all my family members were present. I asked one of them about what was happening and learned that my mom had suddenly become ill on January 13. A doctor came and told them privately, "Your mother is more than 80 years old, and she has almost reached the end of her life. All her indicators show that she is dying, and we can do nothing about it. Please prepare yourselves" So my elder brother and sister took mother home and called us all back to celebrate the Chinese New Year together so that we could say goodbye to her. I suddenly remembered that mother had read Dafa books before and as a result she shouldn't be departing that easily. So I decided to have a chat with her. I first cleared out any evil beings in her room by sending forth righteous thoughts and then walked in. After her mind became a little clearer, I asked her, "Do you remember reading Dafa books before and practicing Falun Gong with me?" She replied, "Yes. But I have done nothing. Will Master still look after me?" I was very happy indeed upon hearing this for I knew that her knowing side could play a role. So I said without any hesitation, "Sure, definitely. Just saying 'Falun Dafa is Good' will do." Thus I chatted with her the whole night telling her many Fa-rectification stories and studied the Fa with her as well, not noticing the coming of dawn. The next day when I appeared in front of others holding my mother's hand, they were all dumbfounded. Grasping this great opportunity, I started to spread the Fa to them. My uncle didn't believe what he had seen and said, "Let's go to the hospital again to have a check." So we all went to the best hospital in town with mom. After the physical examination, the doctor said, "She has good health and could live for another 8 or 10 years."

My elder brother told the doctor about the diagnosis a few days ago. The doctor didn't believe it at all and insisted that it was impossible. She must have been examined by a poorly-skilled doctor. After we went back home, I made the best use of this opportunity to let them all learn the truth about Dafa. And now, even those who were against or afraid of talking about Dafa before say that Dafa is good. Our neighbors have all come to see my mom as well and are spreading the story of this miracle that was created by Dafa.

Yang Lihua, Party Secretary of Dayangshu Town, and several other officials have acted as hired thugs for Jiang to ruthlessly oppress Falun Dafa practitioners during the past few years. These officials include Li Shuliang, deputy head of the police department, Li Benxue, chief of the security section, and Jiang Enwu, party secretary of the town's political and disciplinary committee and director of the prefecture's "610 Office." ["610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.] These persecutors have unlawfully thrown all those who refuse to give up their beliefs into prison. They have ordered their subordinates to viciously beat Falun Dafa practitioners with high-voltage electric batons, wooden clubs, and to tie up practitioners' hands, then hang them up off the ground for extended periods of time. Some practitioners have been slapped until their faces were swollen beyond recognition. Ms. Yu Xiulan, who was in her sixties and lived on Zhongyang Street under the No. 6 Residential Committee in Dayangshu Town, died from torture because she remained true to her beliefs.

On January 14, 2004, two Falun Dafa practitioners went to their local "610 Office" to ask for the return of money that had been extorted from them, when the staff transferred responsibility to the police department. The practitioners went to the political security department on the fourth floor of the police station where they found Falun Dafa books and portraits of their Teacher stored in the corridor. They decided that the proper course of action would be to carry the books and portraits to their own homes with great respect, which they did around noon the same day. On January 16, three other practitioners also went to the police department in an attempt to bring back more of the books and framed portraits. Liu Changzhong, deputy head of the political security section spotted them and although one of the practitioners managed to escape, two others were unlawfully arrested. Zhao Yong is a retired teacher at the Baotou Railroad Workers School. He and his wife have been detained unlawfully since May 2003. This is the third time they have been placed in custody. The responsible organizations are the State Security Brigade of the Donghe District Branch of Baotou City Police Department and the Bayantala Police Station in Donghe District in Baotou City, Inner Mongolia.

Grandma Gan is a retired employee of the Hubei Construction and Machinery Company Ltd. On December 13, 2003, officers from the Shuiguohu No. 1 Police Station and members of the local residential committee forced her into the Yujiatou Brainwashing Center.

At the end of 2003, the Political and Judiciary Committee, instigated by the Chengdu City "610 Office", secretly transferred four Falun Dafa practitioners from the Chongzhou City Detention Center to the Lushan Forced Labor Camp for further abuse. The four practitioners include Elder Sister Ji and Gou Zhongxiu. They had been unlawfully taken from their homes and brought to the detention center during the Chinese lunar spring festival last year.

Ms. Kang Sulan, who is in her sixties, lives in the family quarters of the astronaut administration.bureau on South Renmin Road in Chengdu City. On January 15, 2004, she was arrested by officials from the South Renmin Road Police Station. She is currently incarcerated at the Pi County Detention Center in Chengdu City.

Both Ms. Kang and her husband are Falun Dafa practitioners. They had been placed under surveillance after they returned from Beijing where they appealed for the rights of Falun Gong. Their pension payments of over 1,000 yuan each have been unjustly terminated. Instead, each of them now receives a monthly support payment of only 200 yuan and even this minimal support is being suspended from time to time. [The average monthly income of an urban worker in China is about 500 yuan.]

On December 15, 2001, Zhong Wenfu, Yang Chao and Tan Hualun, heads of the Armed Forces Department in Suining City, detained thirteen Falun Dafa practitioners from Lanjiang Town for four days and five nights without allowing them to sleep. They charged each practitioner 50 yuan per day for so-called "living expenses." [yuan is the unit of currency in China, and 500 yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker.] In addition, each practitioner was extorted out of 5,000 yuan, for a total of 65,000 yuan. The thirteen practitioners who endured this persecution were Luo Junlan, Tan Youlan, Xiao Yuhua, Yang Wei, Dai Yuhe, Tang Deshu, Yuan Shulin, Chen Kaike, Yang Qiangying, Xie Qunhua, Cai Shuqun, Liao Qinfu and Ou Zhangliang.

In November 2003, at the age of 41, Zhong Wenfu was killed in an automobile accident in Sanjia Town, Suining City.

Bai Mao, president of the yarn-dyeing factory in Handan City, participated in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. He sent Yang Baochun, a Falun Dafa practitioner who had suffered severe persecution involving the loss of a leg to a mental hospital for the second time. He declared an ultimatum, that unless Yang wrote a "guarantee letter," he would never be released. [In a "guarantee letter," one expresses remorse for practicing Falun Gong, and guarantees not to practice Falun Gong again, not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and never again to associate with any Falun Dafa practitioners.] Bai currently suffers from intestinal cancer and is hospitalized at the 301 Hospital in Beijing.

Guo Renqun was the head of Section No.1 of the Political and Security Department of the She County Public Security Bureau in Hebei Province. He maliciously persecuted Falun Dafa practitioners by personally arresting practitioners and beating them. He also extorted money from practitioners, ranging from several thousand to tens of thousands of Yuan. Guo was recently removed from his post and is currently under investigation for corruption. His son had to pay 90,000 Yuan in restitution to the other party in an automobile accident.

Wang Yongqiang, a 30-year-old graduate of China Public Security University, was the Deputy Director of the Gaoping District National Security Brigade in Nanchong City. While holding that post, he fined Falun Dafa practitioners tens of thousands of Yuan, sent practitioners to labor camps and drove many of their families to poverty and ruin. On November 24, 2003, he was involved in an altercation and stabbed to death.

Qiuzigou Middle School Principal Chang Hongfei was strongly against Falun Dafa. He fired teachers and expelled students who practiced Falun Gong. In November 2003, he was driving a motorcycle and ran into a truck. The bones of his right leg were shattered in the accident, requiring amputation, which left him permanently disabled.

Cha Enxiu, a Qiuzigou Township police officer, wanted to win a promotion so he often tailed, monitored, betrayed and framed Falun Dafa practitioners. He forced practitioners to renounce Falun Dafa. However, his aspiration was never achieved. Instead, he is now paralyzed from a cerebral hemorrhage.

The second son of Ju Tonglin, of Chanzao Village, Gucheng Town, Fucheng County, participated in the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners. In the winter of 2000, he threw cold water on an outdoors floor and forced practitioners to walk on it with bare feet. On January 19, 2001, someone stabbed him to death. To date, the case remains unsolved.

Deputy Director Shi Hua, of the Gucheng Town Police Station in Fucheng County, actively participated in extremely cruel persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners. He now suffers from leukemia and osteomyelitis [an infectious inflammatory bone disease marked by local death and separation of tissue.] He could easily die at any time.

Liu Hongguo, a resident of Hongcheng Village, Handian Town, Shauncheng City, Heilongjiang Province, informed on Falun Dafa practitioner Tan Chengqiang, which led to Tan's incarceration and eventual death at the Shauncheng Detention Center. After Tan's death, Liu boasted, "I never received any so-called retribution!" Just a couple of months later, however, Liu was stricken with a heart attack that almost claimed his life.

Yang Jialin, the former head of the Shenyang City Public Security Bureau, had tried to gain political favor by persecuting Falun Gong. Instead, he received karmic retribution: He was implicated as being involved with organized crime and is currently imprisoned at the Jingzhuo Detention Center.

Mr. Deng, labor union chairman of the Guangrong Court, in the Benxi City Civil Affairs Department, actively participated in the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioner Tan Fuxing. He detained Tan at the Guangrong Court, imposed a fine and restricted Tan's freedom for one year. This year, Deng was suddenly diagnosed with liver cancer and died within a week.

1) At the end of 2000, the following Falun Gong practitioners went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong: Mr. Song Shuyu, Ms. Liu Jianmei, Ms. Zhang Chunzhen, Ms. Zhou Chengxin, Ms. Liang Xiulian, Ms. Liu Zhenlian, Ms. Song Jinfang, Ms. Song Limei, and Ms. Wang Shiyun. All of them were from Songjia Village, Nanliu County of Anqiu City, Shandong Province. Ms. Feng Shujuan and Ms. Wang Xiufen, practitioners from Sujia Village, also went to Beijing at that time. Police arrested them near Tiananmen Square and took them to the Liaison Office of Anqiu City, in Beijing. The police took away all their money and beat them brutally. They beat Song Shuyu, a man in his sixties, as well as Feng Shujuan and 16-year-old Song Limei, so badly that their faces were deformed. The police used shoes to beat them. They beat them so hard that they even wrecked the shoes. Police searched all their homes.

2) My name is Mr. Tian Baojie. I live in Wangxian Village, Taihe Town, Heishan County of Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province. In 1997, I was in the late stage of inflammation of the lung. One week after practicing Falun Gong, I spontaneously recovered from my lung condition. On July 20, 1999, police around the country were making mass arrests of Falun Gong practitioners, so I went to the Jinzhou City Government to appeal for Falun Gong. The next day, I went to Beijing to appeal. When I came home, the local government asked me to sign my name on a statement that I would give up Falun Gong. I said, "I would have died in 1997 if I had not practiced Falun Gong. That was two years ago. I will continue to practice even if you put a knife to my neck." Later on, the police often harassed and arrested me. Twice I was forced to flee my home and go into hiding in order to avoid their persecution.

3) On December 22 and 23, 2003, six Falun Gong practitioners in Lianxia Town and Longdu Town of Chenghai District of Shantou City, Guangdong Province were seized and sent to Chenghai Detention Center. Police seized four of them in their homes. More arrests followed. On January 7, 2004, Lin and Xie, heads of Chenghai District Fengxiang Police Station, abducted Falun Gong practitioner Wang Jianshu and sent him to Chenghai Detention Center. On the same day, Falun Gong practitioner Pei Qing, Pei's father, Han Shen, and Chun Ze were also seized at home and then illegally detained at Shantou City Detention Center.

4) Cheng Naixin, a policeman of Qingfeng County, Shulan City, interrogated Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Wenliang, who had gone to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Cheng beat Liu until he passed out. Later Liu was forced to leave home with his wife and child to escape further persecution.

5) In January 2000, six Falun Gong practitioners from Qingfeng County, Shulan City went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. They were arrested and detained for fifteen days. County government officials sent them to a brainwashing class where they were beaten. Finally, they were released, but only after paying fines of 1,000 to 2,000 Yuan. [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China.]

6) My name is Mr. Han Chunlong. I live in Yingpan Village, Zhenan Town, Heishan County, of Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province. Before I practiced Falun Gong, I was known as "the one full of illnesses." I suffered from many illnesses (my left kidney completely failed and had to be removed, I had kidney stones, etc.) and was nearly handicapped. Falun Dafa saved me from sickness and gave me a second life. The persecution instigated by Jiang and his followers forced my wife and me to flee our home and suffer from hunger and cold in order to escape the persecution.

Mr. Zhao Hua lived with his wife Ms. Zhang Guozhen in Nongan City, Jilin Province. Their family had problems, but regained peace and happiness after they started to practice Falun Dafa. On November 8, 2000, Zhao Hua was abducted by police after their home was ransacked. He was tortured with torture methods called "big hang up(1)" "tiger bench(2)," and "wooden rod pressing(3)." Under strong urging from his wife, police released him after extorting 6,000 yuan(4) from them. He had been so severely tortured that when he was released, his hands could not hold anything. Less than one month after he was released, he was arrested again, and sentenced to a labor camp. His wife Zhang Guozhen had to become destitute and homeless in order to avoid being wrongfully arrested at home. Only their son is left at home now.

--Policeman You Zhimin in Linqing City, Shandong province beat and cursed at almost all Falun Dafa practitioners who went to Beijing to appeal. He personally organized other police in abducting Dafa practitioners and sending them to brainwashing classes, detention centers, or labor camps. He broke a female practitioner's tooth with a pair of pliers in 2001, and extorted at least 1,000 yuan from each practitioner's family. He met with retribution and had a stroke in 2001. Half his body is numb.

--Director of the Tangu Police Station in Shijiazhuang City Sun Zhixin has been actively involved in the persecution of Falun Gong since July 20, 1999. He has detained practitioners or sent practitioners to labor camps. He developed heart disease in the summer of 2001, and had to spend 10,000 yuan for an operation.

--Police in the Huainan City No.2 Detention Center in Anhui Province beat up Falun Dafa practitioners. Mr. Ye Dongsu from Panji District was kicked by police officers wearing leather boots. Ms. Wang Jianjian was slapped in her face with the sole of a shoe. Ms. Xie Xiaofeng was beaten with a rubber baton. Ms. Wang Xiaohong, Ms. Xie Guiying, and Ms. Han Bangyun were forced to run in the yard wearing heavy ankle shackles. If they slowed down, they would be beaten. Their ankles were all bleeding, and they left many bloody footprints, which were too tragic to even look at. Ms. Dai Mengling, Ms. Yang Lulin, Ms. Chang Naiqin, and Ms. Hu Yu were forced to kneel down for long periods of time. These are instances where unlawful physical torture was employed, and they should be investigated by the relevant legal institutions.

On February 2, 2004, French Ambassador, Mr. Jean-David Levitte gave a seminar in Dallas upon request from the "French-American Business Association" in Texas. After the seminar, Falun Dafa practitioners who attended this meeting passed a letter to him, expressing concern over the Paris incident. Practitioners also gave him a copy of the Falun Dafa Human Rights Report, and Compassion magazine.
