Jiang and his faction have mobilized all of China's resources to persecute Falun Dafa since the persecution began on July 20, 1999. Practitioners in Mainland China have remained steadfast in their practice of Falun Dafa nevertheless. While clarifying the truth and exposing the persecution, practitioners safeguard the Fa and validate the Fa. Since the publication of Master Li's Lecture at the Conference in Florida on December 29, 2001, practitioners in Mainland China have become more clearheaded about the three things Falun Dafa practitioners should do well, i.e. studying the Fa well, sending forth righteous thoughts and clarifying the truth. They cultivate diligently to upgrade their xinxing, validate Dafa and save sentient beings while establishing their mighty virtue, as do their fellow practitioners in over 50 countries around the world.

The main body of Falun Dafa practitioners is in Mainland China, and after 5 years of persecution, they have accumulated a wealth of invaluable lessons and experiences, thoughts and improvement. They have become more clearheaded, rational and mature through cultivation in the Fa-rectification period. Their written experiences will leave the world with precious legends in time to come. Immersed for the last five years in an environment of severe persecution, most of the information we have provided to date on this website has revealed the severity of the persecution and practitioners' brave acts in the face of it. Now, Clearwisdom is hosting this "First Written Experience Sharing for Falun Gong Practitioners in China". This is done to allow practitioners to better eliminate evil with righteous thoughts, to validate Dafa and clarify the truth more extensively and deeply, and also to compensate for the lack of cultivation environment and opportunity to upgrade as a whole body that would be provided through a large-scale Falun Dafa experience sharing conference in China. Since practitioners in Mainland China are not able to present their experiences at a conference in person, Clearwisdom will publish their sharing articles on the website.

When it comes to informing people about the truth regarding Falun Gong, I regularly feel that my life no longer belongs to me; it belongs to all sentient beings. Every thought, every word and every action of mine is tied to their survival. There seem to be countless eyes in the universe staring at me with the hope of been saved. How can I not save them, how can I let my "human heart" stop me from letting these people know the truth. I can only save them by letting go of everything.

In the year of 2002, I left the forced labor camp where I had been illegally detained simply for refusing to stop practicing Falun Gong one and a half years before my sentence was due to finish. Since then I have been actively taking part in the Fa-rectification process. I have been clarifying the truth about Falun Gong and the persecution so as to save sentient beings, which has become an important and essential part of my life. I try not to miss any opportunity to clarify the truth about Falun Gong to people, including those I meet when I am out shopping or running errands, or talking to friends and family members who are visiting. I do my best to talk to people about Falun Gong in any setting.

Last year, one of my husband's cousins who we had never met because she lives so far away from us came to visit. The purpose of her visit was to convince me to stop practicing Falun Gong. She was concerned for her cousin as she was afraid that I would bring more "misfortune" to the family. After she had stayed with us for a few days and upon seeing how I acted--especially after reading the letter I wrote to my husband when I was in prison--she was moved to tears, "I did not think you would be still so concerned about your family, elders, your husband, and others when your were in such an awful place. You are such a noble person." I took the opportunity to tell her about the benefits of practicing Falun Dafa and the truth about the persecution. Afterwards, she said, "Now I understand. I am so happy and grateful that my cousin has such a wonderful wife..." She took a copy of Zhuan Falun [the main teachings of Falun Gong] and some Falun Gong informational materials with her when she left.

I have talked about Falun Gong to delivery men, bill collectors, janitors, postmen and elementary students allowing them to understand the true reason behind the persecution. After understanding the truth about Falun Gong an elementary student said, "If there are questions regarding Falun Gong on my test, I'd rather fail the test than answer them." I replied, "That's wonderful. I bet your grades will be excellent because of this thought." As it turned out, she scored over 80 percent in all of her subjects in her high school entry examination, even in English, the subject she liked least. She had never scored so highly in English before. She happily praised the wonders of Falun Dafa and even told her friends at school and asked them to say, "Falun Dafa is Good."

This spring, my husband was hospitalized. I talked about Falun Gong to every patient, janitor, doctor and nurse I met. Many of them asked for a "Good Fortune Card." For doctors, I started a conversation by asking them how to care for burn patients and those who had undergone trachea surgery. I would then inform them about the suspicious points in the case of the staged "self immolation." They all agreed that there was something phony about it, commenting that it might be for the political needs of the Party.

One time, I was talking about Falun Gong to a middle-aged woman who was selling vegetables. Afterwards, she said, "We just had a meeting yesterday. They told us we would be given 200 yuan if we report just one Falun Gong practitioner." I said to her, "You better not do such things; they are the best people in the world who live their lives according to truthfulness, compassion and tolerance. If you report them, you may receive karmic retribution." She replied, "I know, I won't. But you should be more careful too." To which I said, "Thank you, you will be rewarded for treating Falun Dafa kindly." She then smiled.

When I see street merchants selling fruit, I often stop and buy some, using the opportunity to talk about Falun Gong to them. I found out that every time when I talked to a merchant, there were always some people who would gather round, and even those riding bicycles would stop by to inquire about prices. In fact, they usually do not buy anything, they simply want to hear the truth and take the "Blessing Card" that I distribute. Some even ask for more so that they can give them to their family and friends. Afterwards, they all leave happily.

Once I went to a supermarket and saw a woman collecting garbage by the door. She was crippled and could not move very well. She sat on the ground and looked kind of filthy. I walked up to her and told her to say, "Falun Dafa is Good." She wanted to say it, but could not say it clearly. I recited the words over a dozen times for her to learn. Finally she was afraid she would forget it so she asked me to write it down for her. She took out a pencil from her pocket when I told her I did not have a pen. I found a piece of white paper and wrote down "Falun Dafa is Good." I then taught her to read the characters one by one until she had learned them by heart. When I was leaving, I saw her putting the piece of paper carefully in an inside pocket. My eyes were filled with tears. I thought maybe she lived such a difficult life just to wait for this day.

One morning, I saw an older couple on the sidewalk next to an intersection. They appeared to be from a rural area and were taking a rest under a tree. The man was sitting on a wheelchair while the woman was sitting on the ground. I approached her and started talking. She then understood that all the programs about Falun Gong on TV are not true and that believing "Falun Dafa is good" will be rewarded. When she finally stood up from the ground, I saw that her back was bent over at almost 90 degrees. She said she had difficulty breathing because her back was not straight. It's difficult for her to take care of the elderly man everyday besides doing all the household work. I told her to recite, "Falun Dafa is good." I put my hand on her back and told her to say, "I do not believe the lies on TV, I believe Falun Dafa is good and Falun Dafa is the righteous Fa." She recited this reverently. As she kept reciting, her back became straighter and straighter. In no time her back had completely straightened, and my hand could feel her spine realigning. Finally, she let out a big breath and said excitedly, "I have met a living Bodhisattva today." I told her, "It is the power of the Fa, it is my Master who is helping you. Remember Falun Dafa is good." She was so excited that she did not know what to say but just continued to nod her head.

When I wait for the light to change to cross the street, I will talk to the people next to me. When I ride my bicycle, I will talk to the person riding next to me. When I see people who need help, when I see people smiling at me and when my eyes meet someone else's I always talk to them so as not to miss a single opportunity. I quickly tell them, "Remember Falun Dafa is good, it will bring happiness to your life. Do not believe the lies on TV."

There were people whose eyes started to fill with tears when I told them the truth about Falun Dafa. They would say, "I don't know why, I just want to cry when I see you." Some are very excited after knowing the truth saying, "I want to hand out leaflets with you." I usually give a few leaflets to them and tell them how to hand them out while telling them that doing so will bring them virtue. Some asked for many "Good Fortune cards" for their friends and family and when they hear other people badmouth Falun Dafa, they stand up to them. I don't miss opportunities to clarify the truth about Falun Gong to the neighborhood security guards and police officers from nearby police stations either. When I run into them, I greet them and talk to them. I tell them that Falun Dafa practitioners are good people who should not be arrested. I also tell them that court cases are taking place against the former Chinese President Jiang for his crimes against human rights. I saw the changes in them, from participating in the persecution at the beginning to performing their work (of persecuting Falun Gong) in a perfunctory manner. One security guard often greets me with "Falun Dafa is Good" when there is no one around.

After studying Master's article "Let Go of Human Attachments and Save the World's People," I deeply feel the urgency of saving all sentient beings, and that this is the meaning of my life.

A Young Practitioner: Nothing Will Shake My Belief in Falun Dafa

I began to practice Falun Dafa ("Dafa") with my mother when I was 12 years old. It's been 8 years now. During this 8-year period, I didn't have to overcome Xinxing tests like grownup practitioners. In fact, during the first several years, I didn't really understand Dafa. I didn't ask any questions either. I just tried to be like my mother. I continuously studied Dafa materials and went to the practice site to practice the Dafa exercises daily. My practice progressed smoothly during that time.

After the persecution of Dafa started on July 20, 1999, we saw fabricated reports about Dafa on TV. My mother decided to go to Beijing to clarify the truth about Dafa. I wanted to go too, but my mother wouldn't allow me to go. She said, "You should stay at home to protect the Dafa materials. You must do a good job." I guaranteed that I would guard the Dafa materials with my life and that no one would be able to touch them. I thought to myself: I have Teacher and Dafa. I'm not afraid of anything. Teacher told us in Zhuan Falun:

"I am rooted in the universe. If anyone can harm you, he or she would be able to harm me. Put simply, that person would be able to harm this universe."

Because of my righteous thoughts, we didn't encounter any problems. Even my father was holding up, although he was still afraid of the persecution and was worried, since he didn't practice Dafa. He was worried because of the widespread persecution of Dafa practitioners. I tried to console him and said, "I'm a dignified practitioner. The persecutors are nothing."

During that time, other than the time I had to go to school, I stayed at home to protect the "place." I even "guarded" my father since he was not a practitioner. I felt like I couldn't trust any ordinary people. This is because after my mother left for Beijing, I made a pledge in front of Teacher's picture: "If I betrayed Teacher and Dafa, I would be eliminated through the total extinction of body and soul. Nobody could shake my belief in Dafa." After my mother returned from Beijing, she told me that many practitioners went to Beijing to clarify the truth about Dafa, and that they were all unlawfully detained and beaten by the police.

After hearing this, I really hated those policemen and considered them bad people. Then I realized that these are ordinary people's thoughts and they were not up to the practitioners' standard. But when I saw those policemen behaving like criminals, I felt that I shouldn't just sit there and do nothing. I suddenly thought of using righteous thoughts to stop the evil and let the villains receive karmic retribution. At that time, Teacher had not published the article on sending forth the righteous thoughts. So I didn't know what to do. But I knew I must steadfastly stick to having righteous thoughts. Through this, I realized that every practitioner should think and behave righteously.

Later I decided to copy Zhuan Falun by hand. I thought to myself: no matter how bad the evil is, after I study Dafa more and immerse myself in Dafa, I will eliminate evil. I continued copying Zhuan Falun throughout my vacation. But once I returned to school, I began to slack off. I felt that it's not easy to keep up with school-work and copy Dafa books. I decided to wait until I had some free time. I waited for three years! I'm embarrassed to mention it. It took me three years to finish copying Zhuan Falun. Having no time was just an excuse. The real cause was my laziness. As a practitioner, any attachment is a roadblock to improvement. If we recognize things we didn't do well, we need to take corrective actions immediately. We should not wait and see what other practitioners are doing. A practitioner can only improve through his or her own practice. After I finished copying Zhuan Falun for the first time, I copied it for the second time. I also copied Chapter II twice and Hongyin for three times. It only took me a little over two months to finish all these.

Through copying Dafa books, I started to understand Dafa more and more. I realized what an honor it is to be a Dafa practitioner. Teacher taught us Dafa and gave us the most precious thing in the universe. Many people talk about what's the right thing to do, but they always blame others for not doing it. One can make many resolutions each day, but it won't help if one doesn't implement any of them. Teacher said in Zhuan Falun:

"Even for those who can continue their cultivation practice, it remains to be seen whether

you can succeed and if you are determined to practice cultivation."

Whether we keep on the right track in Dafa practice depends on how well we study Fa.

Looking back on the past five years of the Fa rectification period, I recognized that all activities, including hanging Dafa banners, distributing Dafa materials, putting up Dafa flyers, protecting Dafa materials, writing to newspapers and government officials, would not be successful without Dafa. As a Dafa practitioner during Fa rectification period, let's get rid of our attachments and carry out the three things Teacher asked us to do. (1)

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioners Mr. Tian Yili and his wife Zhen Yujie died during the persecution. They are survived by their 11 year old daughter, Tian Ge.

Tian Ge was born on November 6, 1993. Her father Tian Yili was 32 years old when he died in 2002. Her mother Zhen Yujie was 28 years old when she died in 1999. They lived in Gacha Village, Lianhe Township, Chaoyang County, Liaoning Province. Tian Ge now lives in Yinmachi Village, Xidayingzi Town, Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province with her Aunt Tian Hua and Uncle Wang Shukui. She attends Yinmachi Village Elementary School, as a 4^th grader.

Tian Ge is very mature for an eleven year old.. She was only five when her mother died. When people ask, "Where is your mother?" She answers, "Mom died," in very soft, heavy voice. She still remembers her parents, "They left that morning, after they sent me to grandma's house, they left."

She remembers when she first heard of her mother's death, "I heard at my grandma's house, I cried, and my Aunt cried. "When people ask, "Do you miss your parents?" She nods her head with eyes wide open. She is living through the support of her relatives at her Aunt's house.

Mr. Tian Yili and his wife began practicing Falun Dafa in 1996, and benefited from this practice both mentally and physically. Their young daughter also learned the Fa with them. Their family was peaceful, and happy. They also spread the Fa to their relatives, and established a group practice site in their home, with sometimes more than 30 practitioners doing the exercises together. Their strong faith in Falun Dafa was very impressive to their neighbors.

In 1999, the persecution of Falun Gong escalated. Mr. and Mrs. Tian went to Beijing together to appeal on July 21, 1999. They were not afraid of the severe circumstance with massive arrests of Falun Dafa practitioners across the country. They were revealing the evil persecution in Beijing. They had to sleep in cement drainpipes for nearly a month for safety reasons. They were separated during a big arrest, and Ms. Zhen Yujie was taken by police. In an attempt to escape, Ms. Zhen and a male practitioner from Xinmin City jumped out of the minivan transporting them when it approached Tianjin City. Both died on August 16, 1999.

Mr. Tian was arrested three times, but escaped each time. When he finally returned home, he saw many people around his house, and waited till dark to enter to avoid arrest. He had no idea those people were there for his wife's funeral. He was devastated to hear of his wife's death. His brother-in-law hated him because of his sister's death, and sent the already miserable Tian Yili to the Sanjiazi Police Substation, where he was detained for one month.

The pressure and sadness of losing his wife struck Mr. Tian deeply. He lived in hardship with his daughter, and police often extorted his money, 200-300 yuan each time. Unable to bear the weight of such persecution, he became weaker and weaker, until he died on August 11, 2002, leaving Tian Ge an orphan.

(Clearwisdom.net) Zang Dianlong was a Falun Dafa practitioner from Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province. He was persecuted to death in 2002 at the age of 41. Surviving are his two sons, Zang Haoran and Zang Haotong.

The Two Boys were Expelled from School for Their Determination in Cultivating Dafa

In 2001, both Haoran and Haotong were students at the Fourth Elementary School in Shuangcheng City. In March 2001, under orders from higher officials, all schools in Shuangcheng City launched a campaign in which they asked students to write a composition to expose and criticize Falun Gong. Haoran wrote a composition entitled "Falun Dafa is the Righteous Fa" to validate Dafa. His school principal and teachers threatened Haoran saying, "If you don't curse Dafa and your Teacher, and stop practicing Falun Gong, we'll expel you from school!" Under pressure, Haoran remained firm. The principal then asked Haoran to transfer to a different school. Haoran refused. The principal then expelled him from school and told the students that Haoran was expelled because he fought with others. As a matter of fact, Haoran had always been a well-behaved student at school. He never fought, nor cursed, others.

Not long after, Haotong was also expelled from school because he refused to give up his cultivation in Dafa. Since then, the two boys have been wandering around together with their parents, until their father Zang Dianlong was persecuted to death, and their mother Xu Youqin was sentenced to prison.

The two boy's father, Zang Dianlong, developed leukemia in 1995 and the doctors claimed there was no cure for his illness. Just as he was in deep despair, Zang Dianlong was very fortunate to obtain Dafa in 1996. Soon, his wife Xu Youqin and their two sons began to practice Dafa as well. On July 25, 1999, Zang Dianlong went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa. Thereafter, he suffered various types of persecution. The local "610 Office," police station and his work unit often came to his home to harass him. They often forced him to go to brainwashing classes. At the end of 2000, Zang again went to Beijing to appeal. He was arrested and sent to Shuangcheng City's liaison office in Beijing. Zang managed to escape. Afterwards, he left home to avoid further persecution.

On April 19, 2002, the Shuangcheng City authorities launched a mass arrest of practitioners. Over 700 anti-riot police officers were dispatched to Shuangcheng from Harbin City. Zang Dianlong, his wife Xu Youqin, and another practitioner, Tie Junying, were on the "wanted" list. Thirty-thousand yuan were offered for the arrest of Xu Youqin, 20,000 yuan for Zang Dianlong, and 20,000 yuan for Tie Junying. The authorities also spread rumors on TV saying that these three practitioners were criminals at large.

In order to arrest Zang Dianlong and his wife, the police went to their relatives' homes to look for them. The police ransacked Zang Dianlong's elder brother's home, turning the home upside down. They even took away the blank cassette tapes. Zang's younger sister, younger brother Zang Dianguo and his wife were all arrested. Zang Dianguo was sent to Changlinzi Labor Camp in Harbin City, and his sister was sent to another labor camp. During that time martial law was enforced across a large area of Shuangcheng City. The police were stationed everywhere along streets and in the alleys. Zang Dianlong and his wife had already sent their two sons to Acheng City before the mass arrest. The couple was besieged in Shuangcheng for over a month. Later, fellow practitioners gave them two bikes. With their firm belief in Dafa and Teacher, the couple rode these bikes and got out of Shuangcheng.

The authorities didn't want to admit failure. Police in Harbin, Shuangcheng and Acheng colluded with each other and shared information on how to arrest the couple. Later, they found out that Zang Dianlong was in Acheng with their sons. On the afternoon of July 8, 2002, the police surrounded a residential area in Shuangcheng, where Zang and his two sons temporarily resided. They dispatched over 10 police cars, dozens of police officers, an ambulance and a fire truck. They also had camcorders set up to tape anything that could, perhaps, be used by the evil to slander Dafa. Then, the police went to the sixth floor and pounded on the door of the couple's residence. Zang Dianlong told his sons, "Son, the police are here. Your dad is determined to validate Dafa and will never cooperate with the evil."

Then, Zang Dianlong walked to the window and talked to the police downstairs, "None of you should come up, otherwise I will jump out of the window." The police hypocritically advised him not to do that. While the police tried to talk him into coming out, Zang Dianlong took the chance to clarify the truth to the crowd gathered downstairs. He told them how Dafa teaches people to be good people, how Dafa is being widely spread all over the world, how his leukemia was cured, and how his children were expelled from school, etc. He kept talking for over three hours. Then, he tossed fliers to the several hundred people who had gathered downstairs.

Zang Dianlong then called his fellow practitioners telling them not to come over there. After the phone call, he put the calling card in his mouth and chewed it into pieces. By this time, the police had climbed up to the sixth floor with a scaling ladder. The two boys yelled, "Dad, the police are coming!" Then they shouted, "Falun Dafa is good." The boys blocked the window, not letting the police come in. The police asked the authorities downstairs what they should do. The leaders said viciously, "Kick the children out of the way!" In order to avoid more torture, Zang Dianlong jumped out of the window from the sixth floor. Unfortunately, he died on the spot. The police went into the room and pointed their guns at the boys, "Don't move! Otherwise we'll shoot you!" The police grabbed Haoran first and handcuffed him. Haorong rushed to the window, but was taken back and slapped on the face. The police tore Haoran's shorts into pieces and took away the 2,000 yuan hidden in them.

The police didn't invite Zang Dianlong's family to come identify his body until more than one month after his death. On August 9, 2002, his body was cremated. The police asked his family to sign the death certificate which said "Zang's death was an accident and had nothing to do with the police." His family refused. The police then intimidated his family, "Don't say Zang Dianlong died because of us. He jumped even before we went there. Don't tell Falun Gong practitioners about his death!"

Zang Dianlong's wife, Xu Youqin, is 37 years old. She was sentenced to 15 years in prison and is now being held in the First Women's Prison in Heilongjiang Province. The authorities there have forbidden her family to visit her. Two years later, on September 13, 2004, her mother-in-law was finally able to see her. Xu Youqin was very thin because of the persecution. She was also on a hunger strike. Her family was only allowed to bring her some fruit (nothing else was allowed). Her family left her 100 yuan, but the prison guards immediately took away 30 yuan.

At the time of their father's death, Haoran was 14 and Haotong was 12. Later that day, on July 8, 2002, the boys were taken to Harbin City. Both of them were handcuffed. An official asked the police to interrogate them separately. The police asked Haoran to cross his legs on top of each other and did not allow him to sleep for the whole night. He was not allowed to put down his legs either.

During the interrogation, the police asked the boys whether they had been in contact with their parents and where the Dafa truth-clarification material site was. The police also showed them pictures of some practitioners and asked them to identify them. The boys refused and were thus beaten. But no matter how the police abused them, the boys said nothing. Before Zang Dianlong jumped out of the window, he told his sons, "Don't say anything if the police ask you. No matter how they beat you, you still should be determined. You may give up your schoolwork, but you can never give up Dafa. You should spread the Fa just like your parents were still with you." The sons answered, "Dad, please be assured. We will do well."

After being detained in Harbin City for one month, the two boys were sent to Wanjia Labor Camp where they were held for another month. They were not released until they developed scabies all over their bodies.

At present, 16-year-old Haoran lives with his grandmother, and 14-year-old Haotong lives with his elder uncle Zang Dianchao.

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Chi Huiwen was Korean Chinese and lived in Yanji City, Jilin Province. He was born on February 13, 1968. During a five-day holiday on October 1, 2001, he was taken to a brainwashing center for the second time. Piao Nanzhu, the head of the brainwashing center and others, tortured Chi Huiwen for two days and released him because he was near death and they did not want to bear the responsibility. The perpetrators from the police department and the street office continued to monitor and harass Chi Huiwen after his release. His health declined by the day. He passed away on April 22, 2004 leaving behind his six-year-old daughter Chi Yujing.

Chi Huiwen began practicing Falun Gong in 1993. He worked at the Yanji City Department Store and was well-liked by his colleagues and customers. In 1999, Jiang's regime began persecuting Falun Gong and he and his followers fabricated rumors and lies to deceive the people. The store management believed these lies and asserted pressure on Chi Huiwen, trying to force him to give up Falun Gong. Because the management was afraid the government would punish them for employing Chi Huiwen, they put Chi Huiwen on the lay-off list twice during a store reorganization.

In March 2001, Chi Huiwen went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. In order to avoid implicating his superiors, he had to resign from his job. Around August 27, 2001, the political head at the Yannan Police Station in Yanji City, who is currently the political head at the Jiangong Police Station in Yanji City, led a dozen police and they ransacked Chi Huiwen's home. They frightened Chi Huiwen's 83-year-old grandmother, his wife and his two-year-old daughter. They took Chi Huiwen to the Yannan Police Station and tortured him for three days in an attempt to make him give up Falun Gong.

Because Chi Huiwen persisted in his belief, the political head at Yannan Police Station sent Chi Huiwen to a brainwashing center in Yilan Town, Yanji City.

When Chi Huiwen was detained at the Yannan Police Station he could not eat and vomited as soon as he ate something, but the police ignored his condition and deprived him of sleep. They also made him stand and run on the drill ground for a long time. They verbally abused him and beat him and forced him to watch slanderous videos against Falun Gong.

On September 4, 2001 when Chi Huiwen's wife saw him for the first time since he was sent to the brainwashing center, she saw that his face was black and he walked with a hunched-over back. He walked slowly and unsteadily. His health condition deteriorated to this point after only one week in this center. With tears, Chi Huiwen's wife asked the perpetrators to release him, but they said, "If he doesn't give up Falun Gong, forget about him ever getting out!"

The second time Chi Huiwen's wife visited him his health was even worse. On the ninth day after Chi Huiwen was sent to the brainwashing center, Piao Nanzhu, the head of the brainwashing center and currently a member of Yanji City "610 Office" called Chi Huiwen's wife and told her to pay 150 Yuan for food and 2,000 Yuan bail before she could take Chi Huiwen home. Chi Huiwen's family could barely afford to buy food, and it was impossible for them to pay 2,000 Yuan. Chi Huiwen's wife borrowed 500 Yuan and gave it to the perpetrators and begged them to release her husband. Piao Nanzhu said to her, "If Chi Huiwen refuses to give up Falun Gong, you have to write a 'Guarantee Statement' promising that he will not practice Falun Gong again. I'll take 500 Yuan to cover food expenses and the rest will be considered a deposit. If your husband practices Falun Gong within the next year, I won't give the deposit back."

Piao Nanzhu didn't issue a receipt for the money, but the perpetrators released him after Chi Huiwen's wife wrote a "Guarantee Statement." By then, Chi Huiwen had been unable to eat for over ten days; he was emaciated and even more hunched over than before. He could not walk. The police were afraid of bearing responsibility for his death, so they released him. They demanded that he not practice Falun Gong and not contact other practitioners.

During the five-day holiday beginning on October 1, 2001, the political head from Yannan Police Station again broke into Chi Huiwen's home and ransacked it. He arrested Chi Huiwen, who had not yet recovered. In the evening, Chi Huiwen's wife went to the Yannan Police Station and asked for her husband, but the perpetrators said they didn't know about it. She asked, "You took him away! How can you not know about it?" The perpetrators said, "We just don't know." She also went to the street office and received the same answer. Then she went directly to the Yilan Town brainwashing center and saw her husband there. Chi Huiwen was holding a hunger strike to protest the persecution and to show his determination in practicing Falun Gong. The perpetrators did not allow him to sleep and tortured him. Chi Huiwen grew weaker and became more hunched over. He could hardly walk.

After torturing Chi Huiwen for two days, Piao Nanzhu and other perpetrators extorted another 100 Yuan from Chi Huiwen's wife and then released him.

Chi Huiwen's health continued to decline after he returned home in 2001. Yet the perpetrators from Yannan Police Station and the street office monitored him and harassed him in his home on so-called "sensitive days." The street office sent several people to monitor Chi Huiwen's every move. They used threats to pressure his neighbors not to talk to Chi Huiwen and his family, so most of the neighbors shunned the Chi Huiwen household.

Chi Huiwen's former home is located across from the Yannan Police Station and the street office, and the police could watch Chi Huiwen in his home while sitting in their office. In order not to put other practitioners at risk, Chi Huiwen did not contact them. His health grew worse and he was completely paralyzed by March 12, 2004. On April 1, he could not eat, and he passed away in extreme pain on April 22 at the Yanji City Hospital.

Chi Huiwen has a six-year-old daughter named Chi Yujing. She was born on February 10, 1999. One month after Chi Huiwen died, his wife was forced to leave home to avoid persecution and young Chi Yujing now lives with her grandmother and great-grandmother who is 83 years old and has only one hand.

This is the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, where Yu Yuejin is detained. It is also one of the labor camps where Falun Gong practitioners in China are most severely persecuted.

Original article: Mother Tortured, Police Send Homeless Child to Orphanage

On October 18, 2004 The Epoch Times reported that Falun Gong practitioner Yu Yuejin, 48 years old, a resident in Harbin City, was arrested in March of 2003 for practising Falun Gong. Later she was sent to the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp in Harbin City for forced labor of three years. Here, Falun Gong practitioners are very cruelly tortured. Her four-year-old daughter was left unattended and was sent to Harbin City Children's Welfare Center (actually an orphanage) by the police from the Nangang District Police Department.

After Yu Yuejin was arrested, a police officer first took her four-year-old daughter to his own home, as Yu Yuejin's husband is also imprisoned. The police officer later sent her to Harbin City Children's Welfare Center. Yu Yuejin missed her daughter very much. Due to her strong request, someone from the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp took her to the orphanage to visit her daughter. After she came back, she said her lovely daughter acted as if she were in a daze and could not recognize her, due to the serious mental trauma resulting from the sudden loss of her mother's care and the change in living environments.

After having contacted Haibin City Nangang Police Department (86-451-82324435) and verifying that Yu Yuejin's daughter had indeed been sent to the orphanage, the reporter called the only Children's Welfare Center in Harbin City (86-451-86624717), identifying himself as Yu Yuejin's friend. The receptionist said that the orphaned girl was all right, but one had to contact the police if one wanted to pay a visit.

Reporter: We have heard that Yu Yuejin's daughter is here. How is she now?

Staff member: She is quite all right.

Reporter: Can we visit her?

Staff member: She was sent here by the police; this needs to be arranged by the police department.

Reporter: It seems she almost did not recognize her mother when her mother came to visit her; did she?

Staff member: It has been so long, and it is quite common that a child does not recognize her mother; but she knows that she has a mother.

It was reported on Minghui Net that as Yu Yuejin did not give up practising Falun Gong, policemen frequently tortured her. The guilty parties were Zhao Yuqing (deputy team leader), Yao Changfu (deputy team leader), Yang Guohong (deputy team leader), Jia Cuiyan and Zhou Muqi. The torture methods included: shocking with electric batons, forcing her to sit on electronic chair, slandering and threatening her and other abuses. Due to the torture, Yu developed a serious heart problem and high blood pressure. Under such conditions, Wu Hongxun, the division head of Wanjia Labor Camp still instructed the guards to force Yu to do hard labor. Yu Yuejin is currently detained in the labor camp, suffering both mental and physical trauma.

In the past five years, at least 18 Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death at the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp. In 2001 during the "Wanjia Tragedy" which shocked the whole world, three female practitioners died the same night. Minghui Net also published a detailed report recently about how practitioner Zhang Hong, a 31-year-old pharmacist from Harbin No. 4 Hospital, was tortured to death.

With Both Parents Detained, Fourteen-year-old Zhang Lu Is Adopted by Her Aunt

(Clearwisdom.net) Zhang Lu, 14, is the daughter of practitioners Zhang Lingjiang and Yu Jingxia from Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province. At present, Yu Jingxia is detained at the second detention center. She was sentenced to 10 years in labor camp at her first trial and she is appealing to the Supreme Court of Hebei Province. Her husband Zhang Lingjiang was sentenced to 13 years in prison. He is now detained at the Hebei Province's first prison in Baoding. With no one left at home to take care of the young girl, Zhang Lu's aunt adopted her.

Over the past several years when Zhang Lu's parents were forced to leave home to avoid further persecution, the Xinhua public security division bureau and Shigang street security office often went to Zhang Lu's school to harass her, and they even expelled her from school for a year. Her file in the school was mysteriously "lost" and she could not return to the same school. Later, with the help of some friends of the family, she enrolled in the dependent's school of Shijiazhuang tractor plant. She is now in eighth grade.

Zhang Lingjiang's family lived at the Bolin north area building #10 in Shijiazhuang City. Despite the severe persecution against Falun Gong, they have been very determined in following the principles of truth, compassion and tolerance. They have always done good deeds and thought of others.

Yu Jingxia had been in the clothing business for many years and her business had been very prosperous. Since July 20^th 1999, the Jiang regime has been relentlessly persecuting Falun Gong, so they felt the need to clarify the truth of Falun Gong to the government and their family and friends.

On the evening of February 4, 2000, practitioners in Shijiazhuang City spontaneously went to practice the Falun Gong exercises at the Hebei Theater. They also went with the purpose of letting people know that "Falun Dafa is good and righteous." However, without reason, police arrested many practitioners. Yu Jingxia was arrested and detained for 15 days by the Shigang street security office.

One evening in July of 2000, several friends went to visit Yu Jingxia. As a result, the police once again harassed her. Yu Jingxia refused to open the door, so the police from the security office then forcefully broke it down. They arrested all the people in her house and she was sent to the Shijiazhuang second detention center, where she was detained for one month. The evil deeds by the police were exposed on Clearwisdom.net, and overseas practitioners made many phone calls to the Shigang street security office and the Xinhua public security division bureau. This righteous action shocked and suppressed the evil. As a result, Yu Jingxia was released.

Zhang Lingjiang and several other practitioners who were forced to leave home rented a room for printing and making truth-clarification materials. On September 28, 2001, police discovered this site. They arrested every practitioner there and took away all the equipment, cash and other items. Zhang Lingjiang was detained at the Shijiazhuang City first detention center for nearly two years. In July of 2003, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison. He is currently detained at the Baoding first prison.

After the arrest of Zhang Lingjiang, police searched everywhere for Yu Jingxia, so she was forced to leave home. A happy family was thus shattered simply because they appealed for justice for Falun Gong. The clothing store is now taken care of by Yu Jingxia's younger sister. Her sister also adopted her teenage daughter. Xinxua public security division bureau interrogated every staff member and relative who used to work in the clothing store. As a result, they no longer dare to work there.

At 3:00 pm on January 19, 2004 (several days before the Chinese Spring Festival), Yu Jingxia went to visit her family in the clothing store. The undercover police arrested her in the store. She was detained at the Shijiazhuang second detention center, and continuous torture caused her to become emaciated. Both of her legs were very swollen and she was unable to walk without serious complications. Her organs were also severely damaged and her life was in great danger.

Because she was extremely weak, they released her for "house surveillance." However, the persecution did not end there. The police once again arrested her soon after that. She is currently detained at the Shijiazhuang second detention center. Yu Jingxia was sentenced to 10 years in prison and she is appealing to the Hebei Supreme Court.

Facts of the Persecution

Benxi City "610 Office" Ordered Mass Arrest of Nearly 50 Falun Gong Practitioners on September 18, Causing One Death

(Clearwisdom.net) Recently "610 Office" authorities in Benxi City ordered the city police department, national security brigade and judicial department to launch a mass arrest of Falun Gong practitioners. On the night of September 18, 2004, over 500 policemen in 100 police cars were dispatched to go around the city to arrest practitioners who were on the arrest list the authorities had compiled a long time ago. It has been learned that nearly 50 people were arrested and sent to various places. One elderly person was beaten to death, and two practitioners were forced to jump from tall buildings in order to avoid arrest.

70-year-old Ms. Wang Lianying, a retired officer, lived in Xihu District, Benxi City. She used to practice Falun Gong. But after the persecution began on July 20, 1999, she gave up the practice out of fear. At 11:30 p.m. on September 18, 2004, Hedong Police Station broke into her room and took her away. The police told her family that they would investigate her and send her back very soon.

The next morning around 6:00, Ms. Wang's husband went to the police station to ask for his wife back. From outside of the room, he saw through the glass on the door that his wife was lying on the couch. He could only see half of her head and not her whole face. The man asked to see his wife and the police said, "She's sleeping and you can't see her now."

About one hour later, Ms. Wang's husband went to the police station again. He brought some breakfast for his wife. The police detained and investigated him. The police asked him if Ms. Wang had had any illnesses before. During the interrogation, the man requested many times to see his wife, but was rejected each time. Not until 1:40 that afternoon did the police tell him that his wife had died.

After learning of Ms. Wang's death, her family members went to the police station one after another inquiring about the cause of death. But they got no answer. Some police said they found her dead at 5:50 that morning, but some other police said that she died at 5:10. When her family saw her body, they found blood all over her nose and face, and also her clothes were covered with vomit. Half of her face was very swollen. Her family took pictures of her body. When the police found out, they snatched away the camcorder. Her family tried hard and got the camcorder back. When questioned why they arrested Ms. Wang, the police said, "We found she talked to practitioners twice on the phone in July."

Then Ms. Wang's family members found the police were busy filling out an arrest certificate. It was apparent the police didn't show any arrest certificate whey they arrested Ms. Wang.

The police then said they would cremate Ms. Wang's body right away, but this was firmly resisted by her family. Her family held a funeral service right in the police station. They displayed a banner reading "Return my kindhearted mother." The wreaths were also placed in the police station.

During the service, the police all hid inside. Passersby stopped to watch the funeral service. After learning what happened, they all condemned the police's evil deeds.

Many other practitioners were also arrested on the same night. At around 12:10 on September 19, 2004, Chi Liansheng, Mr. Wang, Mr. Cong, Mr. Ma and some other people from the local police department broke into practitioner Wu Junyang's home through the window. At that time, Wu Junyang, who was released not long ago, was still very weak after going on hunger strike for one month while in detention. However, despite his situation, the police took him away, without showing any warrant. At present, Wu Junyang is being detained in Benxi City Detention Center. No one knows his current situation.

Practitioners Deng Yulin and Teng Hongtao are husband and wife. Because they persisted in clarifying the truth to people, they were arrested and detained many times. As a result, they were forced to leave home to avoid further persecution. At around 1:00 on the morning of September 19, 2004, the police broke into their residence in Benxi City. In order to avoid arrest, the couple jumped out of the building and suffered severe injuries. However, they were still arrested. At present they are being detained in Bailou Detention Center. The police did not allow them any treatment for their injuries.

At around 1:00 on September 19, 2004, Tang Zhimei, Wan Hui, Mr. Cao, Mr. Wang and Jiang Hulin were arrested at their temporary residence. Now they're being detained in Beixi Detention Center. Jiang Hulin was once detained in Dabei Prison in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province for 4 years. One year ago he was released from the prison. He kept clarifying the truth after he got out of prison.

At about the same time, practitioners Zhang Pengzhu and Xiao Deng were taken away from their homes. Xiao Deng's in-laws had already been arrested. Liang Delong was also arrested by the police. These practitioners are now being detained in Benxi Detention Center.

Some other practitioners who have been arrested include: Cui Bin (a teacher from 34 Middle School); Pan and Li from Pingshan District; Liu Da, Liu San, and another practitioner whose name is unknown from Zhuanshan; Zhang Xiujuan, Zhang Liping, Wu Yuxia, Lao Zhang, and Xiao Li from Xihu District; and Lao Zhao from Qiaotou Town.

Falun Dafa Practitioner Zhang Sixi from Ningxia Province Dies as a Result of Persecution

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Zhang Sixi, 58 years old, was from Heping Village, Shatang Town, Longde County, Ningxia Province. In March 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal and was arrested. He was then sentenced to 2 years of forced 're-education through labor' and detained in Baidugang Labor Camp. During his detention, he refused to renounce his belief, and as a result, the police extended his term for half a year. In July 2003, he was arrested again for distributing materials telling the truth about the persecution of Dafa. This time, he was sentenced to three years and detained at Guanmahu Labor Camp. In February he suddenly had a stroke due to the long-term torture. The labor camp feared he might die in the camp, so they sent him home. He passed away on August 21, 2004.

Mother And Son Persecuted to Death in Pengxi County, Suining City, Sichuan Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Xie Wenbi, in his fifties, and his mother Mrs. Li, who was over 80 years old, lived in Gujingwan Village, Jixiang Town in Pengxi County, Suining City, Sichuan Province. Both became Falun Dafa practitioners in 1998.

In 2001 someone in the same village reported Wenbi and his sister-in-law, who is also a practitioner. Police from the county "610 Office" and the local police station arrested them. Wenbi's sister-in-law escaped from the detention center with her strong righteous thoughts and her whereabouts remain unknown. Wenbi was unconstitutionally detained and persecuted at the Pengxi County Detention Center. He was released after six months. His health was extremely poor after he got home, but the police continued to harass him for a long time.

The police also threatened Wenbi's mother, demanding that she tell them where her daughter-in-law was. The older woman was very frightened and upset. She died in March 2003. In July 2004 Wenbi also died from the long-term police harassment and persecution.

64-Year-Old Dafa Practitioner: "My Home Was Ransacked Four Times and over 10,000 Yuan Was Extorted from Me"

(Clearwisdom.net) My name is Gui Fenxiu, and I am a 64-year-old woman. I am a resident of Group Seven, Qiukuang Village, Shitingzi Town, Qidong County, Hunan Province. Because of my practice of Falun Gong, I have suffered inhumane persecution. In the past several years, local authorities have unlawfully ransacked my home four times, sent me to detention numerous times, and extorted over 10,000 yuan from me.

Before I took up the practice of Falun Gong, I suffered from various illnesses, including arthritis and severe kidney problems. For six or seven years, I could not eat any salt. I didn't know how much longer I could live in this world. Everyday I was in pain. Then my relatives introduced me to Falun Gong in early 1999. After a period of practice, my illnesses disappeared one by one. Since then I have often gone out with fellow practitioners to do the exercises and spread Falun Dafa. I have been practicing for over five years now, and I have never again needed to go to a hospital.

Jiang's regime started the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999. As a person who has benefited from Falun Gong, how could I remain silent? Therefore I went to Beijing to appeal on February 8, 2000.

At Tiananmen Square, I was brutally mistreated by the police. On February 16, 2000, I was sent to Hengyang City's liaison office in Beijing, where I was detained for two days. On the 18^th, I was taken back to Qidong Police Department.

That same night, political security division head He Zhengrong and policeman Li Wei dragged me out to the yard and beat me savagely. They beat me so hard they were sweating all over. Then they found some wooden sticks to hit my head and my whole body. Two of my teeth were knocked out. I was bleeding non-stop and in the end I passed out. Other practitioners were also beaten to varying degrees that night.

After I regained consciousness, I felt a sharp pain in my chest. Even today I still feel occasional pain in my chest. Around 1:00 a.m., I was sent to the detention center, where I was kept for over 80 days.

One day the detention center head Liu Jintian forced us to pull weeds out of the grass in the field. I took a chance and managed to escape. I went to a different town and stayed there for three weeks. Then I decided to come back to my hometown to keep clarifying the truth. Once when I was clarifying the truth to town officials Li Xiangyun and Xiao Yusheng, they called in the police and sent me again to the detention center. This time I was detained for 19 months.

In March 2001, practitioners in the detention center held a group one-month hunger strike to protest the persecution. This act shocked the provincial and municipal authorities. The higher-ups sent in some officials to Qidong to investigate. We requested that we be released. The Qidong County Police Department notified the respective town officials to come claim their local practitioners. The local officials who were supposed to come pick me up were Li Xiangyun and Xiao Yusheng. The police required each practitioner who had gone to Beijing to pay 10,000 yuan before being released. Since I live alone and didn't have any family members to send in money, they failed to extort any money from me. However, Li Xiangyun and Xiao Yusheng refused to pick me up. As a result, I remained in detention.

The police soon arrested six more practitioners and sent them to the detention center. We then shared experiences together. Policeman Zhou Youzhong grabbed a wooden stick and beat whoever was there sharing experiences. Many practitioners were beaten. I shouted, "Falun Dafa is good." Zhou Youzhong beat me savagely and poked my chest with the tip of the wooden stick. Three of my ribs were broken.

For the next several days, I had great difficulty speaking and breathing. The pain did not subside for over 10 days. When I saw words written on the wall slandering Falun Dafa, I then wiped them off and wrote, "Falun Dafa is good." Seeing this, policeman Zhou Daosheng slapped my face and Zhou Youzhong called in five thugs to beat me up.

During my 19 months' detention, they used various means to torture me. After 19 months my physical health was so poor that the detention center authorities went to Shitingzi Town and asked the town officials to pick me up. They wouldn't release me until they had extorted several thousand yuan from my two sons.

In early 2003, when I again tried to clarify the truth to Xiao Yusheng, he called in some officials to arrest me. They intended to send me to the county detention center, but the detention center did not want to accept me. Xiao Yusheng then conspired with Li Xiangyun to use about 3,000 yuan in public money as a bribe to persuade another detention center to take me. They also changed my name to Lin Guifang.

The torture I suffered in the detention center is hard to describe in words. Later I was sentenced to one year of forced labor and sent to Zhuzhou Labor Camp on June 9, 2003. When the car arrived at the labor camp, I was barely able to walk. I didn't have the strength to hold my own bag. Seeing my condition, the labor camp authorities sent me back to the detention center the very same day.

The next day the detention center officials called Xiao Yusheng several times asking him to come pick me up. Xiao said on the phone, "Let her suffer. It's no big deal if she dies in there..."

At one time the detention center told all the practitioners to buy prisoner uniforms saying it was center policy. I immediately stood up and said, "We don't need prisoner uniforms. They are for criminals. We Falun Gong practitioners are all good people. We're being persecuted and we can't wear that uniform." In the days that followed, we refused to cooperate with any orders they gave. In the end, they could do nothing but inform my son to come pick me up. However, they made my son to pay several "fees" before they would let him take me back. Altogether my son paid about 6,000 yuan. Then I was released.

On April 12, 2004, my fellow practitioners and I went to distribute Falun Dafa materials and hang Falun Dafa banners. Since that day was a shopping fair, there were many people. Practitioner Wu Niansheng and I were busy hanging banners when several officials (including Li Xiangyun) came up to stop us. Li Xiangyun called the county detention center asking them to detain me, but he was refused. He had to leave in defeat.

In the past several years, Xiao Yusheng and Li Xiangyun have ransacked my home four times and persecuted me on numerous occasions.

The perpetrator sat on the neck of an elderly Falun Gong practitioner in such a way that the practitioner's head was almost touching the floor. The torturer then used a broom to fiercely whip the practitioner on the back.

The wicked police also directed others to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

395 People Declare that their Words and Deeds Under Forced Brainwashing are Null and Void

Taiwan Daily: Deputy Director of Xinhua News Agency Sued in Taiwan

(Clearwidom.net) According to a report from Taiwan Daily on October 21, the Secretary of the Taiwan Falun Dafa Association, Mr. Hung Chi-hung filed a lawsuit against the Deputy Director of Xinhua News Agency, Xu Xi'an--who is visiting Taiwan--for "inciting hatred".

On October 20, Mr. Hung Chi-hung, secretary of Taiwan Falun Dafa Association went to the prosecutor's department of the local court in Kaohsiung to file a complaint against the Deputy Director of Xinhua News Agency, Xu Xi'an and others, who are currently visiting Taiwan. Mr. Hung Chi-hung said that Xinhua News Agency has fabricated a large quantity of false news to defame Falun Gong. Consequently, numerous innocent Falun Gong practitioners are imprisoned and persecuted. In addition, Xinhua News Agency has also provided false news to media outlets throughout the world and were reprinted, which has caused many people to misunderstand Falun Gong. This by itself constitutes a very serious crime of "inciting hatred". Mr. Hung Chi-hung stated that overseas Falun Gong practitioners are often treated in an unfriendly manner by local overseas Chinese people--even verbally abused and insulted--because they were influenced by the false reports that Xinhua News Agency has fabricated.

Mr. Hung Chi-hung explained that there were judicial precedents for the crime of "inciting hatred" from international courts in the trial of Nazi war criminals, and it is considered a very serious crime. This reporter asked whether this judicial precedent can be used in Taiwan according to current laws of Taiwan. Mr. Hung Chi-hung answered that there are 153 articles about crimes of "inciting hatred" in the current criminal laws of Taiwan, and therefore the prosecutor has already accepted this case.

Central News Agency (Taiwan): Falun Gong Holds Press Conference, Exposes Xinhua News Agency's Role as Accomplices in the Persecution

(Clearwisdom.net) According to a report on October 20, 2004 from the Central News Agency, Taiwan Falun Dafa Association held a press conference on October 19 in the Herohouse in the City of Kaohsiung to expose the Xinhua News Agency's slandering of Falun Gong, and claim that Xinhua Deputy Director Xu Xi'an and others who are currently visiting Taiwan are accomplices in the persecution of Falun Gong. In addition to delivering a written protest to Xu Xi'an, Falun Gong practitioner Yin Xiangmao will also file a complaint against Xu Xi'an and others for their verbal assaults against Mr. Yin on October 17 at the Sun Moon Lake.

Falun Gong practitioners expressed that Xu Xi'an who is currently visiting Taiwan once compiled a book entitled, "School Campuses Refuse Evil Cult" during his post as a Standing Committee member of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, Secretary of Education and Labor Commission and Director of Beijing Education Commission. The book was promoted in schools of all levels in China. Its aim was to attack Falun Gong. Reporter Li Jingchen of the delegation has been publishing articles opposing Falun Gong for a long period of time. He described Falun Gong practitioners as criminals who commit suicide and murder others. The contents of his articles completely deviate from the facts.

Falun Gong practitioners revealed that on October 17, when practitioner Mr. Yin Xiangmao kindly explained the facts about Falun Gong to Xu Xi'an and others at the Sun Moon Lake, the latter blatantly insulted him publicly. Mr. Yin Xiangmao decided to file a lawsuit against Xu Xi'an and others. Falun Gong practitioners called upon Xu Xi'an and his colleagues to immediately stop defaming Falun Gong, stop inciting hatred and offer compensation for the losses they have caused as soon as possible.

New Haven, CT -- "500,000 foreign websites are now blocked in the name of 'protecting Chinese children from being exposed to foreign pornography,'" said China expert Erping Zhang in a lecture at Yale University. While autumn rain beat at the windows, about fifty Yale students - mostly from China - gathered in the lecture room to listen. Zhang gave a lecture on the "Politics of Chinese Media" at Yale University on Oct 15.

Zhang criticized the Chinese press, calling it, "state-controlled propaganda." He said, forbidden topics for the press include the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre, the Falun Gong spiritual movement, abortion, and other human rights issues. With its $800 million firewall, he described how the Chinese government also prohibits its citizens from accessing foreign websites, including the BBC, Time magazine, the Wall Street Journal, overseas Falun Gong sites and pro-democracy sites.

"Due to the lack of legal protection, many Chinese reporters are facing increasing physical violence when attempting to investigate corruption or other scandalous stories," Zhang said.

According to reports, 42 Chinese reporters have been jailed for their coverage of politically sensitive issues.

After the lecture, Hao Wang, a student born and raised in China, said, "The Chinese government is taking away people's freedom of speech, and controlling the Internet and media. I think he brings this to light. More should be done to highlight this. It's a very relevant and pressing issue that many students in China are facing today."

According to Zhang, the problem is not confined to China.

"There is a disturbing trend in Chinese media in the United States. Beijing is making a deliberate effort to control the Chinese media here and has made marked progress in this regard. Through direct ownership, offering business opportunities, buying air time or commercial pages, and deployment of pro-Beijing staff in the press here, China has essentially controlled the majority of the Chinese media in the United States," said Zhang.

Howard Yin of the Chinese-language TV station New Tang Dynasty Television said, "That's why we started New Tang Dynasty. We wanted to give Chinese people a real objective look at what's going in China and the world." NTD TV is a nonprofit organization based in New York. It broadcasts globally via satellite, however, the Chinese government has been blocking NTD TV's signal from transmitting in China.

Erping Zhang is a Mason Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University. A former member of the Chinese Government, Mr. Zhang began his research on Chinese media at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy during the SARS outbreak. He has spoken on the subject of Internet censorship in China before the U.S. Congress, the European Parliament, and the World Summit on Information Society.

Zhang ended one segment by saying, "There should be freedom of information in the world, so that all individuals have free access to different sources of information. Fully informed citizens can better serve and stabilize society, while fear of an educated and informed populace is a slap in the face to the masses."

Jiang Faction Blocks Words Such as "Truth, Compassion, Tolerance" on the Internet

(Clearwisdom.net) Yahoo! Messenger is an on-line Internet chatting software. In its Chinese version, there is a special keyword list file, sfilter.txt that is used by the Jiang group to block or monitor information related to the listed keywords. Recently this file was exposed on the Internet. I found that terms like "Truth-Compassion-Tolerance", "China has no freedom of speech," "China has no freedom," "no human rights," etc, are all on the banned keyword list.

Internet blocking and monitoring is an invention of the Jiang regime, which boasts its blocking technology has reached a "world-class level." We should know that in many countries, monitoring and blocking the free flow of information violates citizens' basic human rights and privacy. Only dictators such as Jiang Zemin would use this kind of Internet clamping technology.

To control the free flow of information on the internet, the Jiang group has invested billions of yuan each year to develop information blocking technology and has hired hundreds of thousands of Internet police officers to monitor the Internet and prevent the masses from learning the truth.

Among the filtered keywords, only a fraction are in the categories of pornography or violence. Apparently, the suppression of pornography and violence is only an excuse. There are scores of variations of Jiang Zemin's names in the keyword list. It's understandable that variations of Jiang's names are blocked, but what's wrong with words such as "freedom," "human rights," "truth, compassion, tolerance"? Pornography and websites depicting violence are very popular in China, but Jiang's followers show them little concern. Why are they so afraid of Chinese citizens sharing information freely?

Ever since Jiang Zemin started persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, his followers have applied more and more Internet blocking in China. Luckily, many righteous people have developed anti-internet-blocking technology to return freedom of speech to Internet users.

Among the key words, many are Falun Gong related. "Truth, Compassion, Tolerance" are words Jiang and his followers are afraid of. No wonder "lies, evil, and violence" are so popular in China.

Actually Falun Gong has spread to over 60 countries and is legal in all of them, and has been issued over 1200 proclamations from different countries and groups. In China, Jiang's persecution of Falun Gong is totally based on lies and slander spread through the media. If information flows freely on the Internet, Jiang's lies will be exposed quickly. Then nobody will trust him anymore. Here we see clearly why the Jiang faction blocks the Internet: liars are always afraid of the truth!

By keyword filtering, the Jiang group is forcefully installing a filter in Chinese people's mouths which prevents them from saying things such as "no human rights," "no freedom of speech," etc.

The Jiang group claims that the most important human right in China is the right to survive. By this logic, if one is alive, he or she has the best of human rights. So if one demands the right of freedom of belief, then Jiang's faction thinks one is asking too much, and that person can be killed as they wish. According to verified numbers, over 1000 Falun Gong practitioners have been killed, and tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been sent to jail. The torture and killing of Falun Gong practitioners is still going on in China. These facts are at the top of information being blocked by the Jiang group. Falun Dafa Practitioners in Heilongjiang Province Volunteer to Repair the Local Roads and Validate Dafa With their Actions

(Clearwisdom.net) These events happened in a township of Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province.

The fall harvest of 2004 was coming and the dirt roads in the countryside were rough, full of bumps and potholes. On rainy days, the roads were very muddy and difficult to walk on. Every year, the township would organize people to repair the roads before the fall harvest. There was no public welfare fund this year. It was difficult to do things without money and people would not want to do it on their own. The cadres of the villages were having headaches about how to repair the roads. So Falun Dafa practitioners decided to repair the roads for the villages voluntarily. They decided first to repair the main traffic roads of the whole township and to repair the muddiest and the roughest roads.

The road behind the rear wall of the township middle school yard was very low-lying, and every time it rained, the students would have to carry their bicycles and walk through the muddy road for a distance of 100 meters to get to the school. The school administration did not know what to do about this section of road and the township government did nothing about it. Out of consideration for the children, the Dafa practitioners decided to fix this section of road first. More than 100 Dafa practitioners from different villages of the township took part in fixing this section of road, and these practitioners included old grandmas in their 80s and young children 11 years old. The Dafa practitioners volunteered their manpower and carts; they volunteered their families' ox carts, donkey carts, and the small three-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles for repairing the road. In order not to affect the students in their classes, the practitioners worked on Saturdays and Sundays. They hauled the dirt needed for the road repairs from places about a mile away. Later, the school donated the bricks left over from building construction to the practitioners for repairing the road. Thus, the road was fixed. When the students walked on the repaired road, they all knew that the Falun Gong practitioners had fixed the road; they all learned that Falun Dafa is good and that Dafa practitioners are good people. Before this road repair work, it was somewhat difficult to explain the truth about Falun Dafa to the faculty at the school, but the conduct of the Dafa practitioners working together as a group and repairing the road deeply impressed them. Many teachers witnessed the Dafa practitioners' benevolent conduct with their own eyes and they realized that Falun Dafa is good. One teacher said, "The middle school could not do anything and the township government did not do anything; it is Falun Gong who fixed the road."

When the Dafa practitioners had just started the road repair work, the local police station, the public security directors and personnel of various production brigades all came out to monitor the Dafa practitioners. After they saw that every practitioner was doing the road repair work voluntarily and that they were doing such a good deed, they all left.

There was one section of the road that was very difficult to navigate; this section of the road is west of the village where the township government is located. After the road was fixed by the Dafa practitioners, the villagers were very moved. When the drivers passing by saw that the road was repaired to such good condition, they all gave the thumbs-up sign. One villager whose home is next to the road voluntarily adopted that section of road; whenever the road was damaged by passing-by vehicles, he would fix the damage right away and he would tell the passengers, "This road was fixed by Falun Gong practitioners, we cannot casually damage it."

Dafa practitioners were all taking the initiative to fix the roads in their own villages. If any major work was needed, the Dafa practitioners of the neighboring villages would get together to repair the road. There was one Dafa practitioner, who, whenever he obtained a new truth-clarifying VCD, would bring his VCD player and play the VCD to every family. The Party branch secretary of the village also realized that Falun Dafa is good and he was moved when he saw that Dafa practitioners thought about others and took the initiative to voluntarily repair the road; he also led the villagers to participate in the road repairs. He said, "If the authorities want to arrest Falun Gong practitioners again; I will certainly inform you beforehand. There is no reason that such good people should be arrested. I don't care what the government says; Falun Gong is completely redressed here."

The center road through one village had a big depression full of water, and the passing-by vehicles all had to take detours around the village. The Dafa practitioners of the village spent one whole afternoon filling it in. The second day, the Dafa practitioners of the entire township got together to repair the road. When Dafa practitioners walked on the street, the people who saw them shouted, "Falun Dafa is great!"

The head of one village said to a Dafa practitioner, "Please help to repair the roads in our village. If the village does not provide you with a meal, come to my home to eat." One villager offered his bulldozer to repair the road with the Dafa practitioners. Some villagers cooked the meals and provided hot water, small shops offered ice cream bars and spring water.

Dafa practitioners fixed the road voluntarily and free of charge. One village decided to reward the Dafa practitioners with 3,000 yuan. They said that the Dafa practitioners could use the 3,000 yuan for any purpose; this money was not enough for paying for the road repairing work--count it as a bonus!

The loudspeakers of a village broadcast, "Falun Gong repaired the roads of our village, and it is Falun Gong who truly paves the grand path!"

The Dafa practitioners also came to realize that validating Dafa with concrete actions by means of repairing the roads achieved a very good effect. Some practitioners who were not as diligent, and who had a mentality of fear and dared not to come out before, came out on their own initiative; those who dared not to clarify the truth before also came out and started to clarify the truth of Falun Dafa. Dafa practitioners all had a righteous mentality; they did not ask for any reward and they brought their own meals. When they took breaks, they sent forth righteous thoughts together and shared experiences. They were very clear on the basic point that this work was not for doing good deeds for ordinary society; this was for validating Dafa. In this way, they truly demonstrated the magnificence of Dafa.

One morning, when we were setting up the anti-torture exhibition at Liberty Plaza on Broadway, a young man hurriedly came up to me and said, "I'm working at a supermarket. I've seen your anti-torture exhibition and read the literature. You are very good people. Unfortunately, millions of good people in China have lost their happiness and lots of people have experienced the cruel torture. It is terrible. I told my friends that we should help them. But some of them thought that this was other people's business." The young man continued, "People can't just live for money. We should also help other good people who have lost their human rights. Could I take more materials? I have many customers and friends. I can put those materials at my work place so that they can read them." We immediately gave him a stack of folded newsletters and leaflets. He put them into his bag. In the end, he shed tears and said, "Take care of yourselves!"

"I Will Bring this Wonderful Practice to Palestine"

One Sunday morning, we went to Central Park and held a group practice. A woman and her lovely young daughter came by. She said that she wanted to learn the exercises. She told me that she first learned about Falun Gong a few years ago. She is going to Palestine in two months and she wanted to learn all five sets of exercises so that she can teach people in Palestine. She said the people in Palestine endure a great amount of hardship.

I taught her exercises One through Four, and she learned them very carefully. I told her that she could come to our anti-torture exhibition sites to continue to learn the exercises. Yesterday, she came again and learned the fifth set of exercises.

A Person Who Lost Both His Hands Asked a Practitioner to Sign the Petition for Him

Last Saturday, several practitioners formed a team: One held the informational poster, one distributed flyers and another one collected petition signatures. We went to a busy street and handed out the flyers on the pavement. In our righteous and peaceful field, many people not only accepted the materials but also signed the petition in support of Falun Gong. At that point, a disabled person came over to us in a wheelchair. I handed the truth-clarification material to him. He was very happy to accept it. Then I asked him whether he would like to sign the petition calling for an end of the persecution. He smiled and said, "See, I don't have hands." Then he said, "You could sign it for me." He told me his name and I wrote his it down on the petition. I expressed my sincere gratitude to him. He kept saying, "Persecution is wrong!"

A Chinese Woman: "We All Know About This. We All Talk About this Issue."

I met a Chinese woman. She carefully watched the live torture reenactment. I walked over to her and handed her a flyer. She immediately said, "We all know about this and we all talk about this issue." I then informed her how Jiang initiated the suppression of Falun Gong and how he is currently being sued in more than 10 countries in the world. I also introduced the wide spread of Falun Dafa. She listened attentively and kept nodding her head. In the end, I asked her if she wanted to sign the petition to support us. She hesitated for a while and then signed her name. I thanked her for her support and expressed my wish that she would talk more about Falun Gong with her Chinese friends. She said that she would.

A New Practitioner: "Falun Dafa is So Great! Thank You, Teacher Li!"

October 17, 2004 was another busy Sunday. There was a weekend fair at the intersection between 42^nd Street and 6^th Avenue. Bustling crowds visited the long rows of booths. Our three-person truth-clarification team also came here and merged into the crowds.

It was already late autumn in New York. A cold front had struck New York and it was very chilly. People were wearing their winter clothes. Two of us wore bright yellow raincoats imprinted with the words, "Falun Dafa is Great!" Another practitioner wore a thick blue sweatshirt with the words, "Falun Dafa." He held a poster exposing the torture endured by practitioners in China. The other two practitioners handed out materials. The three of us slowly walked through the crowds.

Suddenly, a middle-aged woman came over to us. She was pleasantly surprised to see us and pointed towards the Chinese characters imprinted on our clothes. She said in English, "Falun Dafa is great!" A practitioner immediately handed the truth-clarifying materials to her. The woman said," Falun Dafa is great! Falun Dafa is wonderful! About one month ago, I obtained Falun Gong information and I began practicing it at home. Guess what? I feel great! I feel a great release of mental pressure and I feel very relaxed. Previously, I had not even noticed that my body had become so tight and stiff due to stress and fatigue. After I practice the exercises, I feel that my body is relaxed, flexible and very comfortable. I have decided to practice the exercises every day. I would also like to join the group practice."

The woman kept telling us about the changes she experienced after she practiced the exercises, and her face shone with happiness.

The practitioner who held the poster said to her, "This is also what we have experienced. One of the reasons why we come here is to share the happiness of practicing Falun Dafa with the people of New York." The woman said enthusiastically, "Great! Falun Dafa is great! I've just practiced it for one month and I have obtained so many benefits. Thank you so very much for coming here to introduce Falun Gong!" The practitioner answered, "Please don't thank us, please thank Teacher Li Hongzhi." She immediately said, "Thank you, Teacher Li!"

When we asked her if we could write up her story and post it on Internet so as to share with people throughout the world, she was very happy and agreed. She told us her name.

When we said goodbye to each other, we smiled and said, "See you next time." The woman happily answered, "Very nice meeting you. See you."

A woman at another booth told us that she would like to learn the exercises, but she was unable to find a practice site. A practitioner asked her if she had time right then, and if she did, she could go to the truth-clarifying sites on 42^nd Street to learn the exercises from the practitioners there. She thanked us and went over to the practice site.

We feel that more and more people in Manhattan are starting to show a great interest in learning the Falun Gong exercises. Because local practitioners are very busy with the truth-clarification activities and other events, they are short of hands in answering phone calls requesting information about learning the exercises, and other basic information. It might be good to ask those who want to learn the exercises to go to the truth-clarification sites in Manhattan to initially learn the practice there. This would not only address those people's immediate needs but also take some of the pressure off the local practitioners.

Germany: Collecting Signatures at the Kirta Festival to Have Jiang be Brought to Justice (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) In mid-October, German practitioners held a photo exhibition and petition campaign during the Kirta Festival in Cham. The people learned about the torture and the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong in China from the exhibition. Many people signed practitioners' petition in support of bringing Jiang to justice. Local newspapers carried photo reports about the activity.

A lot of people went to enjoy the Kirta Festival in Cham near the Bavarian forest. Local Falun Gong practitioners considered this a good opportunity to let more people know about Falun Dafa and thus they applied to the city council for a place to hold an information stall. Prior to every large-scale activity, we would always meet a government official who was "not interested in the truth of Dafa" and always found an excuse to reject our application. However, this time the practitioners cooperated well, kept righteous thoughts and told the official about the genocide against Falun Gong in China; the official accepted our application.

Many people wanted to know why Falun Gong practitioners were persecuted so brutally in China. People who knew the truth all came to sign a petition to bring Jiang Zemin, the former leader of China and instigator of the persecution against Falun Gong, to justice. Some people came straight to our petition table as soon as they saw us. After talking with them we realized that they had already learned that we were trying to stop the persecution and torture of Falun Gong practitioners in China from a local newspaper, which had reported on our petition drive. Two other newspapers also reported on our activities with several photographs and this allowed many more people to learn the truth about Falun Gong.

(Clearwisdom.net) The Fourteenth Vancouver Health Expo was held in the Exhibit Hall of the Canadian Hotel on October 16 and 17, 2004. Falun Gong practitioners brought the good news of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" to people looking for good health.

Falun Gong practitioners in Vancouver have been invited to every Health Expo since 1998. As in the past, their booth provided information on the practice and gave demonstrations of the Falun Gong exercises. One practitioner had made copies of a recent health survey. An American practitioner narrated the exercise demonstration.

Visitors Show Great Enthusiasm and Learn Falun Gong "on the Spot"

During the two-day expo, people continued to come to the booth to ask where they could learn the exercises. The practitioners demonstrated the exercises four times a day to great interest from the audience. Some people stayed to watch the next demo, while others wanted to learn the exercises right away. The most frequently asked question was, "Why did the Chinese government (Jiang's regime) suppress such a great exercise?" Falun Gong practitioners gave them truth-clarification CD's and told them about the persecution of Falun Gong.

"I Can Feel Your Energy Field"

A man who worked at the next booth quietly watched the Falun Gong practitioners for two days. He came over before the end of the expo and said, "I am from the Philippines. I have practiced Qigong before. I could feel your energy field, especially when you did the exercises in a group. The energy was really strong. Could you please give me a flyer? I will study it carefully."

Tell Them the True Story of Falun Gong

On the second day of the expo, two women, who looked as if they could be students just arrived from China, passed the Falun Gong booth. One of them looked shocked when she saw the words "Falun Gong." A practitioner went over and kindly told them, "Falun Gong is freely practiced in more than sixty countries in the world. China is the only country which doesn't allow its people to practice Falun Gong. It is completely legal here. Please take a good look at this brochure. It tells the true story of Falun Gong. The 'self-immolation on Tiananmen Square' is a plot of Jiang's regime." He went on to tell them how Jiang's regime had fabricated lies to frame Falun Gong and that he hoped they would learn the true story. The two women nodded their heads and left with truth-clarification materials.

Australia: Practitioners Participate in the Granny Smith Apple Festival in Eastwood (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) Eastwood is where the Granny Smith Apple originated, thus the Granny Smith Apple Festival became a tradition in the North district of Sydney. This year marked the 19^th anniversary of this festival and it is also the fifth time that Falun Gong practitioners took part in the celebration.

The City of Eastwood belongs to the electoral district of Australian Prime Minister John Howard, and each year, several Parliament Members make appearances during the celebration. On October 16 this year, as usual, Falun Gong practitioners set up an information booth and provided exercise instruction. What was different from previous years was that in the parade, a procession showing the worldwide spread of Falun Gong was added and the float, which the western practitioners began decorating at 4 a.m., was also very unique.

One week before the parade, local newspapers mentioned that the Falun Gong group would join the festivities. As the float, waist drum troupe, and a dance team dressed in Tang Dynasty costumes slowly walked by, not only westerners but also Chinese people warmly applauded and cheered. A Cantonese family was also watching the parade on the roadside. The gentleman kept saying, "Look! Falun Gong! Falun Gong!" A lady smiled and waived to a practitioner who was dressed in a Tang Dynasty costume. The practitioner then asked her, "Do you know about Falun Gong?" The lady said, "Yes, I do!" Although she did not say much, her expression showed her admiration and appreciation of the practitioners. Upon seeing western practitioners in the procession, a senior couple from Beijing said to each other, "Wow! Westerners practice too!" A practitioner on the roadside then explained the facts to them. The gentleman asked, "You are so young and you also practice Falun Gong?" The practitioner told him that he could learn more about Falun Gong during his visit in Australia. The gentleman smiled in agreement.

Because two months ago, a local newspaper reported the incident in which Mr. David Liang was shot in South Africa during Chinese officials' visit to that country, many local residents came to our information booth to sign the petition supporting the effort against the persecution. A Chinese person attentively watched the exercise demonstration and asked, "Is it hard to learn Falun Gong? Where can I buy the exercise music audiotape?" After listening to a practitioner's explanation, he said that he would go to the public library to borrow a copy of the book Falun Gong to read.

At noon, the festival organizer invited practitioners to give performances on the main stage. In the short 20 minutes, practitioners performed four programs, including waist drum performed by young practitioners, a Taiwanese folk dance, exercise demonstration and a Tang Dynasty costume show.

A city council member's wife was very interested in the practice of Falun Gong. She immediately called to ask for information about the practice site. She said that she would come on Monday morning to learn the exercises. Upon learning that the instruction of Falun Gong exercises is free of charge and all people are welcome to learn, she was very surprised. She said that she would ask her friends and daughter to come and learn the exercises as well. The city council member commented that the Falun Gong group does things very sincerely and persistently. Practitioners told him, "Because we benefit from the practice of Falun Gong so much, we wish to give others the opportunity to benefit from it as well."

Korea: Clarifying the Truth at the University of Seoul (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) During the second and third week of October, while the student government of the University of Seoul was having celebration activities, practitioners held a series of events on campus to promote Falun Dafa and clarify the truth about the ongoing brutal persecution. This is the second truth-clarification effort of practitioners on campus since May 2004.

Practitioners staged a photo exhibition in front of the student union to expose the brutality of the persecution and demonstrated the exercises quietly next to the exhibition. Though it was very noisy on campus, the exercise music brought people a sense of peace and harmony. With the celebration activities taking place, it was easy for students and faculty members to accept practitioners' truth-clarification efforts. A lot of students came to the student union, and of course they also saw the exhibition.

Though we were having the exhibition at the same spot as we did last May, the response from students was quite different. In that event, many people were indifferent to the persecution; however, things turned around this time. A lot of passersby stopped to view posters, listen to practitioners' introduction and many accepted our truth-clarifying brochures. It is quite amazing that this positive change happened in just a few months.

Many students said: "How can this happen?" After listening to our truth-clarification, many thanked us and encouraged us to keep up our efforts. There were also some students who had learned about Falun Gong before. They often took the initiative to explain to their friends who were curious.

Besides students, there were also some local residents who were interested in Falun Gong and asked for local practice site information. An Indian international student wanted to learn the exercises right away after he read the introductory material. We talked with students one after another for hours, and our materials quickly ran out.

We also met some Chinese international students who didn't want to know the truth. However, practitioners were not frustrated and continued their efforts. Furthermore, though we didn't see positive change in those Chinese on the surface, they may have undergone positive changes, and in the future, they will reconsider our words.

Through our activities, we hope more people will obtain the precious Fa and all the Chinese international students will learn about the truth of Falun Gong and the persecution.
